Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

When is the right time to transition a toddler from crib to bed?

Re: When is the right time to transition a toddler from crib to bed?

The Bump Expert

Most parents transition toddlers from crib to bed between the ages of one and a half and three years old. But there’s only an immediate need to make the switch once the child is potty-trained -- so he can get up to use the bathroom during the night.

If you’re concerned that your toddler might climb out of his crib and hurt himself -- either on his way down or while wandering around your house while you’re asleep -- take these steps first: Lower the crib mattress as far as it will go, and install a crib tent, which forms a mesh tent over the top of the crib to keep him secured.

If the reason you want to make this crib-to-bed transition is because you want to free up the crib for a baby on the way, which is very common, be sure to give your toddler plenty of time to adjust (about six to eight weeks). He’ll need to be completely comfortable in his new bed before a new sibling usurps the crib he once saw as his own.

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

I transitioned my son at 12 months. hes going to be a big brother so we transitioned him 6 months before the babys due date, Only aprox. 8 weeks left until baby now! He was an early walker/ runner and already knew how to get down from our TALL queen bed so we figured there would be no issues with a toddler bed (He did great!) . Glad we transitioned that one first, now were almost completely pacifier weaned too!

The rule of thumb is 35 inches, but you do need to look for other signs to see if he is ready for a toddler bed. I have some great tips on my site called Toddler Tips for recognizing these signs www.toddlerbedandmore.com. Good luck with the transition!

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

My son just turned 1, and we put him into his regular twin sized bed when he was 1 year 2 days old. Mind you it is barricaded right now, because he doesn't know how to get up and down, so it's like a crib, only bigger i guess. He has transitioned perfectly, and once he can get up and down, we'll move the barricades away, and hopefully things will stay the same! :) I'm so glad we did it now, as we are expecting our 2nd in August, and didn't want to buy a 2nd crib.

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

My son started climbing out of his crib at 17 months. We opted to convert his crib to the toddler bed with rails vs. using the crib tent. Naps sometimes are a challenge but it's a work in progress and he actually adjusted much easier than I thought. I think I was more upset than he was! I'm sure crib tents have worked well for some families but I was very uneasy learning that some children have suffered major injuries or worse, death from use of them. It was a risk I just wasn't willing to take.

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

My daughter has been in a toddler bed since she was 17 months and has done amazing, she sleeps more sound and with me being a high risk pregnancy it keeps me from having to lift her into her crib at night.

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

My 18 month old is still in her crib, but when she is ready for a toddler bed, her crib turns into one. No way would I take her crib away just to give to the new baby because its her crib and it will be much easier to get her to transition since its technically the same bed just without the rails. The new baby will get his own bed as well.

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

My son is 3 year and 3 months. He happily sleeps in his crib 10-12 hours a night. He is not night potty trained - he does not wake from a nap or night sleep to pee. So he wears a diaper at night. We took down one side of his crib once so he would have a toddler bed - he screamed that he wanted it back. My son is very verbal not very advanced on his gross motor skills. He never climbed out of his crib. He just simply asks on the baby monitor, 'Mom, can you come get me now? It's 7:00." We put a clock in his room because he was waking at 4 AM and thinking he could get out. Now we tell him that he can get out at 7:00 AM or if he has to go potty. I supposed there will come a time when he wants to sleep in that abandoned fire truck toddler bed that he bought for him but that time is not now. We had to buy another crib for his 1 year old sister but small price to pay for my son's happiness and security. And having him sleep so well isn't so bad either!

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

Well my baby is almost three and he's been moving around the house and around the patio a lot.I try to supervise him as much as I can but you know how kids are one minute they're here and the next minute they're gone.My son got a really ugly Toenail Fungus from running around through the patio. So now i made sure he's supervised all the time so nothing bad can happen the next time.

Last night was my son's second night in his new toddler bed. He is 19 months old, and the transition is going surprisingly well.

You will know when he is ready to move in to a bed. My son did this when he was about 2 and half years old. It took a little time to accommodate. To help him I've searched Online books for kids and read to him every night

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

My son was 16 months when we switched him to his toddler bed. When nap time or bed time would come around he would want to sleep on the couch or our bed with a pillow and blanket. We figured we would give the toddler bed a try to see if it was him wanting to be a big boy. He loves it! He had been waking up once a night in his crib crying and that stopped the moment he switched to his big boy bed. He loves being able to climb into his big boy bed all on his own. We also have one of those frog star/music things we put on at night and nap time. He really loves that too. It signals that it's time to be in bed and stay in bed. I'm so glad we switched him. It also helps us as we are expecting baby number two this summer :)

Is my toddler ready to move from his crib to a bed?

Toddlers are usually ready to say bye-bye to their crib and switch to a "big kid" bed. A mother should find a few books about the big move and share them with your toddler, get him involved with suitable bed model, give time to let him play on his new bed, install guardrails on both sides of the bed to keep him safe and watch out for nighttime wandering. I just hope that these will help when you apply on it for your kids. The Lush @ Katong

While buying furniture for the baby be very careful. Make sure that it is safe and most importantly it does not contain any harmful material. The same thing could be said about your big kids also, when you go to buy Kids Beds make sure that it is comfortable and safe enough for them.
