When should my baby start to walk?

My baby crawls up a storm, but she doesn't walk. Some of my friends with babies around her age are very mobile. I'm starting to get nervous. What should I do?

Be careful what you wish for. The truth is, every baby learns new skills at a different pace. So try to enjoy her prewalking days while they last; once baby starts walking, you’ll be chasing after her.

Some perfectly healthy children don’t walk until they’re 18 months old, so just be patient and try not to work yourself up. In fact, if you give your toddler the impression that you’re stressed about her walking or that you’re pushing her, it may make her even more resistant to the idea.

You can always call your pediatrician for reassurance. But generally, as long as she’s crawling, starting to pull herself to stand, and making progress in other areas, you have no reason to worry.
