Does My Toddler Need to Exercise?

I want to make sure my toddler is getting enough physical activity, but how do I know?

Your tot doesn’t have to hit the gym any time soon, but you should definitely give him the opportunity to release his innate energy. “Toddlers should get at least one hour of physical activity each day, like running around, jumping or climbing,” says Anita Chandra-Puri, MD, a pediatrician with Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group and an instructor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. So take him to the park, walk to the store or play in the backyard. And if you’re stuck indoors, put on music and start dancing. He'll do the rest.
