Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

How far into my pregnancy should I keep working?

Re: How far into my pregnancy should I keep working?

The Bump Expert

This is one of those (yep, another one) “everybody’s different” situations. Some moms choose to work up until the very last minute in order to save up their maternity leave days for after baby arrives. Others choose a “last day” in advance in order to have a break before their due date, or make arrangements to work from home in the final days. We asked the new moms on our message boards for their take on leaving the office, and here’s what they had to say:

"I worked until the very end. My water started to leak while I was at work!" --
senecamom
"I set a specific day. My last day was at 37.5 weeks. I had about a week and a half to run errands, do last minute shopping, and relax before I went into labor." -- mrsbilodeau
"I will definately work up until the last minute next time. I had an amazing pregnancy and I think its because I stayed moving." -- kbv
"My last day at work was my due date. I went into labor the next day and didn't go in. I didn't want to lose a single day with my baby!" -- dnagal
"I worked from home the week I was due, so I didn't have to drive to and from work and it was just easier all together." -- jomar
"Personally, if I'd had a week or month off before my EDD, I would have been bored out of my mind." -- krub
"I think that it is great to leave work a week or two early. Get a pedi and mani for goodness sake while you still can!" -- GigaGal
"I quit at the six month mark, knowing that I would not be returning to work and needing some time to myself before the baby came. It was the best decision I ever made." -- MLE21707
"I was due on 11/7 and my last day was 11/8 (overdue). It was VERY uncomfortable for me, but I'm glad I made it through and didn't use up more time than I had to. I saved it all up to be home with my baby before returning to work." -- Blushing051505

"I am glad I worked up until he arrived. I felt good, never had time to sit and think about how uncomfortable I was, and I think it has helped me jump back much quicker." -- Laroogirl

re: Q: When to stop work?

I'm working up until 4 days before. I think a nice long weekend before my scheduled C-section will be enough time. In the weekends leading up to my daughter's arrival I have been pampering myself. Last weekend I got a massage and now I'm off for a pedicure! I want to be good to myself now, but also want as much time with my little one later.

I'm an EMT-IV(ambulance driver) and I have to help raise and lower the stretcher. My job offers light duty on a wheel chair van(drive people who are wheelchair bound to doctor appointments and stuff like that. When should I go on light duty?

re: Q: When to stop work?

My job is an hour away (that is an hour coming and an hour going) from my home/ doctor and i drive alone from a Nuclear Plant, so I asked my doctor when did he think it would be best for me to stop working and he told me @2 weeks before my due date which sounds fair to me. I would hate to start labor at work and have an hour drive alone trying to make it to my destined location so I think that I will follow his instructions...

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am taking off 1 week before my due date, I really hope it's a good choice. My doc says I can elective induce 1 week early, which I won't do...and she won't let me go more than 1 week overdue! Im hoping for right on time... I know...dream on!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I will be working up until the baby is here cause I want the most time with her. My coworkers and bosses are a bit nervous of me going into labor at work. My due date is on a saturday I am hoping that she comes on a saturday or sunday or start overnight. I work a half hour away and the hospital is closer to home than work. There are a couple people that know how to get to the hospital that I work with.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working until a week before my due date, I work so far away from my husband and hospital, I don't want to go into labor, have to pick up my husband, then drive to the hospital when my husband works within minutes from our house and can get me there safer and faster! If I worked closer to home I would definitely work until the last minute.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

So far I have decided that the baby is due on Sept. 10th and I have Sept. 7th off of work already for labor day so I would like to start maternity leave on the 8th but actually my last day at work would be the Friday before. So that would be a weekend and three days before the due date. I recently saw a study that said the more time you have off before the baby is born the better you and the baby feel during labor and after. It actually has good benefits to take time off before the baby comes.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am due on Oct 15th and my last day is Sept 12th. My job is really physical and on your feet and requires good use of body mechanics which I think I'll have a problem with when my stomache gets bigger. It also requires lots of bending which is already getting tricky for me.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

i am due August 19th & I my last day working is August 14th which I am doing from home. I figure a few days off before his expected arrival date will be good. Plus I am already so uncomfortable that work already sucks. Plus, my Doctor says she will induce me no later than a week after my due date so I won't have too much time off work before he gets here!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm due on 9/21 and starting maternity leave on 9/8. But working from home for the two weeks before that. In CA you can take up to 4 weeks before the baby is due paid for by the state and it does not affect the time off you have after the baby is born. You still get your 3 months paid by the state as well. Use it! Relax, get things ready, it will be the last time the house is quiet before the baby comes :)

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

well I am due october 15th and I do a lot of lifting and i am required to do a lot of physical work....I have been very careful thruogh out my pregnancy to use good body mechanics and to check in with my O.B. if anything seems out of the ordinary....so far I have had very little difficulty preforming my job and I plan to work up to my due date or until my O.B. says I need to take leave....I find that working is very good exercise and I keep in better shape...I have only gained 13 lbs during my pregnancy and i feel great:)

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Well, I had prelabor contractions at 25weeks but was able to go back to work after 3 weeks of bed rest..it getting hard to go to and from work as I need to take the metro...I want to take off now, at 30 weeks just to make sure he doesn't pop out too soon...but i'm working til 34 weeks.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

If you do not have a complications of course I would of worked till the end. But by my 24week of being pregnant my cervix was thinning and doctors were scared i might got into preterm labor. Now im on my 30 week and still out of work. My last appt i was told it was looking good and that to give 2more weeks to see if i can go to work. I'm feeling thats not going to happen.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Well, I am on week 37!!! And still at work. I am going to stop working 9 days before estimated delivery date. And let me tell you...This is soooooo hard. My workload and co-workers are overwhelming me. I have to work hard to stay calm during the day, and because of this, when i get home I am exhausted. My advice is: TAKE OFF AS SOON AS YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO. NOT WHEN YOUR JOB TELLS YOU. Good luck ladies. :)

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I plan on working up until I go into labor unless there is a medical reason for me not to. I work in L&D so if my water breaks at work I just have to call DH and I'm all set!!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am a teacher so my job starts again in September. I am due October 12th and will work for 1 full month before my maternity leave on October 2nd. That gives me about a week to do last minute things and relax before the big day!!

KatieCrain |

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

When considering materity leave, don't assume that the due date is THE day. It's an estimate. Just as many women deliver two weeks before or two weeks after their "due dates." My midwife has us prepared with travel bag, car seat, ect. by the "labor window" of 37-42 weeks.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am 31 weeks pregnant now. I am a server at a Disney Restaurant in Orlando and I do a lot of heavy lifting, walking and stairs. I have cut back to 2 days a week but every day it gets harder and harder. I am due October 26 and will be happy to stop working around October 12.....in Florida you can't get FMLA unless you work full time so I am limited to 6 weeks off unpaid. I think its complete crap that the govt doesn't take care of new moms, we have the hardest and most important jobs of all!!

rbischoff03 |

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm so jealous of the people in California! I started a new job while already pregnant, so I don't qualify for FMLA and will only get 6-8 weeks unpaid. It kind of sucks. Especially since I'm 39 weeks already and still working! And my commute to and from work is about an hour. The hospital is an hour from work too. Due date is next week and I can't decide if this Friday should be my last day or push it until next week, assuming I'm going to be overdue. Let's see what the doc says tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I plan to work until my water breaks. My hospital is walking distance from my job, and dad is right down the street. My coworkers are a little nervous, but fortunately i work with plenty of experienced mothers who know what to do if the time comes.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am due Oct. 28th and I am going to try to work until it becomes absolutely too uncomfortable or until my doctor says "Give it a rest". I have had some ups and downs during my pregnancy with Carpal Tunnel and Anemia so exhaustion and pain has been my worst issue. Running to the bathroom every 10-15 min's does not make for a very productive work day either. If I can make it to a least a week prior to my due date I will feel successful.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm due Dec 9. OB says he'll most likely pull me out of work four weeks prior. My job requires me to be on my feet 45 hours a week. I'm on week 29 now and there are days when all I want to do is sit! Plus the hospital is an hour away from my job without traffic (i live in jersey and i work in ny). i definitely don't want to go into labor at work!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm going to work as long as physically possible. I've saved up vacation time all year (which was really tough!) and I hate to "waste" it at home by myself - want to spend as many days as possible with DS when he comes - 13 weeks is allowed by FMLA but not necessary paid - would hate to have to go back early because I ran out of money!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am in the military and I am probably going to be working until it's time for to go into labor. I must be nice to have a choice to quit or stop earlier, but not everyone can be that lucky.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work at a restaurant working 25-30 hours a week and it is so overwhelming. My last day at work is 8 days before. I'm capable of being at work but there are some things that i can't do anymore and it's not fair to all the other girls to have to do parts of my job too. I get very tired easily and standing for longer than 3 hours hurts my whole body. So even if you know you CAN still work sometimes it's not the est decision for you or the other people you work with.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

With my first pregnancy I worked until the very day my water broke. DD was two weeks early. This time around I think I will stop working sooner than due date.....providing I don't go into labor early again. I think i will appreciate a bit of a break befroe new baby arrives. Life is sooo busy with a Toddler at home, and work is slow now anyways, plus it's kiiling me to sit at a desk all day long. I'm only 33 weeks and already wish I coud stop working. But with all that said, I bet I will still wind up working till the very end. Even though I won't be returning to wrk afterwards......

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm an Air Traffic Controller in the Navy and im 35 weeks. My job is very very high paced and stressful most days. I stop controlling in my 36th week and im hopeful that they will let me stop working all together 10 days before my due date. It's a little different being pregnant in the military because if my doctor says im fine to work then thats all there is to it. I dont have the option of taking days off or telling my chief when i wanna be done. I't def sucks but im hoping i can tell my doctor my game plan and hopefully he will be on schedule with me and take me off work for the last week and a half. I get 6 weeks of paid maternity leave and 8 weeks if i have a c-section. I get a 20 minute break throughout the day and after that, im stuck on positon talking to aircraft until i get relieved to go home. Im hoping the doc will be on my side when i bring up my game plan.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am 38 weeks along and still working!!! It seems to be helping though, I am 2-3cm dialated and 60% effaced. I am lucky though because my hospital is 5-10 minutes from my office and both the office and the hospital are only 15 minutes from my house. So either way I am still close. I did cut my hours back to 25 hours a week (which helps). Also, when I am home I just sit there waiting for the time to pass. So being at the office is a great distraction.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I agree with NewMrs07. Californians are lucky. I'd like to take some time off before my due date, but it would have to come out of vacation (my company considers maternity leave "short term disability" and I'm not really disabled until after labor). I want to use my vacation to be with my new son!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I have a very stressfull career, but most of my job can be done from my desk in an office. My employer expects me to work up until I deliver, unless my health becomes an issue. Several women in my office have gone into labor or had their water break while at work. I'm keeping a towel at my desk in case it happens to me.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Well as for me, my last day at work will be january 8, 2010 and my due date is the 15th...So hopefully the baby can hold out til then. Plus it gives me time to run around and get some errands done before the baby comes. With my last 2 children, I worked up until I was 8 and half months pregnant and was a week overdue at that. So hopefully, everything goes well and when the baby is ready to come so am I.....

I'm due Feb 14 2010 and my last day of work is Jan 22 2010. I am so happy I live in Canada when I read some of your answers about having to go back to work so soon after. Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I have decided to work until either I can't be behind the school bus wheel (i am a bus driver) or a few days prior to my Feb 8th due date. I can't afford to be out on unpaid leave so I will work until I just can't really & I really want to save as much time as possible for the baby after he is born!

karensledge1978 |

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

My OB thinks I should be working 8 hour shifts since I hit 28 weeks... though I am doing just fine right now at 30.5. Not going to say I'm not tired at the end of my 12 hour shift cause I am. However, I plan to work up until the big day. I get 12 weeks paid but if I take off early or start reducing my hours it gets pulled from that 12 weeks and I really don't want to spend time at home waiting on baby instead of spending time with baby. I understand the employer side of this, but I don't think if you need or want to take off before the baby is born it should be taken out of your after baby time. IT should be two seperate deals.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

With my first I took off work 3 weeks before she was due and stayed home for 5 months after. Mith my secone I worked till my doctor pulled me at 4 weeks before the due date. I was sooo bored at home and the minute my doc said it was ok to return to work I did. I was out a total of 7 weeks. 4 weeks before and 3 after. This pregnancy is a whole lot different though. I am a server at a VERY busy family resturaunt and my job is extremely physically demanding and stressful, plus this time around I am dealing with a bit of depression. I want to work till about 2 weeks before the due date which is Februrary 17th 2010 but my body doesn't seem to want to last too much longer.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm at my 6th month and having twins. My doctor told me that I am the size of a mother ready to deliver. I am a self employed hairstylist, makeup artist and nail tech. Besides being on my feet I become very winded easily. My back and feet among other things are starting to bug me. My husband and I are guessing I will have a last day at the end of January. I wish I could work till my due date in March.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I stopped working in my 4th month. Not by choice though. My doctor put me on a 20 pound restriction. On a daily basis I was constantly lifting items heavier than 45 pounds. The company I work for doesn't have any type of lite duty work for me so they put my on disability for six months. I have been keeping very busy and I don't have a hard time finding things to do and it's been nice to relax when I want to. Otherwise I probably would have worked till my due date.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working until my due date (last day 1-8, baby due 1-10). However, in my 9th month, I cut back my days to 8-3pm instead of working till 5pm and that has helped a ton! Being able to go home and rest a little earlier each day is really nice. Other people in my office have taken shorter weeks, but I like leaving a little earlier each day and work liked that idea too so it was a win-win.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am 28 weeks and my due date is 4/6/2010 and I am plannig to stop working a month before. I was originally planning to work up until I went into labor but the stress of work and co-workers aggravates me to the point of exaustion every day. So since in CA we can get paid 4 weeks prior and not affect the time after, I am going to take advantage of some time for myself and my family before our new addition arrives.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work in a bakery too (cake decorator) and I am working right up until I go into labor (my due date is 1-23) so I don't miss any time with my baby. My doc actually told me working as long as I can will help labor (because I'll be moving and getting some exercise and not just sitting around). It's getting a little uncomfortable when I stand too much, but it's worth it if I get more time with my baby! I've had such an easy pregnancy and I think a lot of it is because I'm active all the time.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and not sure when I'm going to take off either. If I was in my dream situation I would work up till 2 weeks prior to my DD, which is 03/03. But since I don't, my option is to work until I'm due. Which stinks, the reason being is I'm on my feet all day, I work with autistic children (which is fine when they aren't hitting/biting), and my boss picks on me every single chance that she gets. So just like a couple of entries earlier...I come home extremely exhausted and emotionally bankrupt because of her. But that's what I plan on doing, which I could go out earlier though.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am a elementary teacher and I plan to work as late as I can. It may be interesting if my water breaks at school. I have 12 weeks of FML and my due date is 12 weeks and 2 days before the end of school. I would really like to not have to come back to work for the last two days in June. If everything works out, I could have my 3 months of maternity leave, plus the 3 months of summer. 6 wonderful months with our little one before I have to go back to work and leave he/she with a sitter. I am also planning to work as long as I can so that we have a little more money coming in. Wish me luck.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm currently 36 weeks and work 50 hours/wk on my feet managing a restaurant. i'm working up until my due date to spend more time with the baby. Personally, i think being so active all throughout my pregnancy has helped - I haven't gained a ton of weight, and have stayed in great shape. Plus, the constant walking has helped the baby drop, so I'm hoping that it will keep her from being too overdue or having to be induced. Fingers crossed!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I think it depends on what your career is and if you have complications during your pregnancy. I am a nurse and planned to work right up til then end- until I started having high blood pressure. At 36 weeks I was put on bedrest to help with the symptoms. My doctor said it's pretty common for nurses to end up on bedrest because we work on our feet and long hours. I think this is true for any job that requires physical labor and being on your feet all day!

bcolby |

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working through my due date. I work about 50 minutes from home, but my work is flexible so even the slightest sign of labor I can leave. If I have to work from home for the rest of the day if it was "false" labor, that's no problem. My company would even be cool with 2 days a week at home for the last week or two if I wanted. I'm not wasting time sitting at home bored. My friends who have done that were going so crazy!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I know that I'm not due for a while but I have already had trouble during this pregnancy so I will stop working at least 1 - 2 months before I'm due. Right now I'm on light duty at work so I feel that this will be better for me and my unborn baby. I don't think I will be returning to work until my baby reaches 6 months of age or I may choose not to work any more just depends when the time comes.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I plan on working right up til the day I go into labor. I don't have a job that requires me to be on my feet much more than 30 mins max a day, so I make sure I walk, which should help with the delivery. I won't qualify for FMLA because I haven't been with the company for a year, but I'll use all of my paid time, then the rest as unpaid leave. I plan on taking 8 weeks after the baby is born to get him all sorted out with daycare and used to routine, if that's possible, lol.

I am an ER nurse working 13 hour shifts on my feet. I'm currently 32 weeks and struggling - between the shortness of breath, sore back & feet, and fatigue I think I will be done at 35 weeks.. Luckily I have enough banked holiday pay I will continue to get paid, and not have to start my 52 week mat leave until around my due date.. It totally depends on the job that you do! Those of you nurses who work up to 40 weeks deserve a medal!!! :)

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I live in Canada, and we have a pretty great system for maternity leave. Because I work on my feet and have had hip problems, I can get on employment insurance up to 16weeks before the due date. So I'm getting off work 8 weeks early, but still have 17 weeks of maternity leave (which is 90% of my usual wage) AND 35 weeks of paid (at 55% my usual wage) parental leave. So I don't need to sacrifice my health OR my time home with baby. I am looking forward to taking a lot of long walks, napping, organizing my house, preparing my garden, cooking up a storm so I don't have to once the baby's here (yay freezer!) and reading!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am due on May 1, and plan to work up until I deliver. I am a teacher, and have already used all of my sick days for the year (I have 2 other children, and when they are sick, I take off work). I am a teacher and will take off for the rest of the school year - this gives me the entire summer to be at home, then I will return to work in the fall. Unfortunately, my entire leave will be unpaid as teachers in my district are only allowed one day per month.

I had planned on working up until 4 days before my due date but my doctor put me on bedrest 2 weeks prior to. I can't thank him enough now, I feel way better than I did while I was working and I can concentrate on having my girl. But I am thankful I can afford this, it all depends on if you can or not.

My commute and physical work demands became too much for me. I worked with my boss and HR and we decided that I go on leave 4 weeks before my due date. It's made a huge difference in my back issues and blood pressure! If you can afford to do it you should, get a lot of "me" time and enjoy the last days of your preganancy!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am due July 8/2010 and my last day of work is May 21/2010. I work as an auto parts delivery driver, so the lifting of heavy auto parts plus the driving is becoming quite a challange. Im worried about being bored for the time between work and when my baby arrives, but it's also a good time to plant some flowers and finish my nursery without feeling overwhelmed and rushed.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I own a small business (9 staff) & have made the decision to continue working until I feel unable to, or that the work is interfearing with my health. Most people I know aren't supportive of this idea, but I couldn't stay home n just chill - I'm too much of a busybody for that! With baby now due in less than a week, I've begun cutting some days short to go home and put my feet up with the laptop and continue working from the comfort of my own home or the back deck. I've been taking every day in stride, one at a time. Let's face it: carrying a child, another life inside you is no easy matter. And choosing to stay active longer is a choice - not a requirement. For me it's worked, and I'm glad I've kept my baby brain distracted with the business! The whole pregnancy has been relaxed & laid back. I think no matter what you decide, do it on your terms, keeping in mind what works best for you & your lifestyle.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm at 37 weeks and plan to work up till the week before my due date, as I'm getting induced early because of the baby's size. Everyone comments on me working and its gets old. I'm pregnant, not worthless! My doctor says even though the baby will be big labor will be easy because I'm so physically fit. I sure hope so! I'm saving all my maternity leave for when my family is here to take care of me and the baby.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am due 6/24/2010, currently am 36 weeks and plan on working till the day this little guy decides to show up! I work in an environment where I am on my feet all day, but am able to take a few short little breaks throughout the day to put my feet up. I end up coming home completely exhausted, mentally and physically, not to mention my legs and feet are swollen beyond comprehension....but it will be worth it in the end to beable to have the extra time with my little guy once he arrives. Plus, being at home all the time would drive me absolutley nuts! So even though i am pretty much miserable while I am at work...It will pay off in the end.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I have a desk job so I'm not too concerned with scheduling a definite date to stop working. Work is, however, about 40 minutes away from the hospital, and it's not easy to get my boyfriend out of work, so I'm not really sure what would happen if I started going into labor at work. I just want to have most my 6 weeks off with my daughter and not sitting around the house with nothing to do. I'm hoping my body will just tell me when it's time to call it quits.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

When I was pregnant with my son, I left work early on July 2nd to go to my 40 week appointment. I got home, changed into comfy clothes and started figuring out what to make for dinner. At around 6:30-7:00 a night, I started feeling cramps. Then they kept coming. By 6:05 the next night, I was holding my son. I plan to work up until I go into labor this time around. I work in Marketing and pretty much sit at a desk all day though, so my belly and being pregnant do not get in the way of my job function. We only get 8 weeks leave, I want it all home with the baby.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm at 33 weeks now and still working. I lifeguard at a water park here in Orlando. My plan, provided I have no complications or anything, is to take off when I hit 38 weeks and use up my vacation time before I use the FMLA leave time. I wanted as much time off with baby boy as possible, especially since it is looking like a c-section delivery for me. It's been hard, and I've had some pretty crappy days, but all in all I feel pretty good physically. I think it's really helped me to be this active during the pregnancy. And I definitely feel like Superwoman when I can still find the strength and motivation to get up and keep doing it every morning. That lifeguard Speedo might as well be my superhero costume as far as I'm concerned!

With my son I worked until I couldn't (I was on my feet about 12 hours a day) due to sciatica which got really bad. That was at 7 months. I'm pregnant with my second child now and have been home the whole time. My advise is to work until you can't. I think it keeps you focused on something else other than every ache and pain. I stopped at 32 weeks. It was just getting to hard with the demands of my job and the loss of sleep. I knew I wasn't going back since it was a one-year gig so I just left a couple weeks early. I am not sure what to do. I drive an hour to work every day. I am the director and counselor of an alternative high school for students with significant emotional and behavioral disabilities. Therefore, my stress level tends to be high. Also, when students act out, that puts me and my baby at risk. School is just starting and I am due 12/2. I just got a job at 34 weeks! You can do whatever you want if it's safe. The problem I have is that I commute and it's against policy for a co-worker to take me to the hospital because that is not what they are trained for and it could turn worse on the way. Guess I'm driving myself or calling a cab since my husband works at the hospital already. Plus, there is no guarantee he could come get me anyway with his position...

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

With my first child I had pre-e and was put on bedrest at 34 weeks and was induced at 36 weeks due to my bp. This time I've been lucky so far and have been feeling well with no signs of problems yet. My dr is suggesting I leave work 4 weeks before my due date, which puts me right into my 36th week. I work an hour away from home and my husband is all over during the day for work. At least that way I don't have to worry about where I'd be if I went into labor early. Also my daughter is now 4 and I think we'll enjoy our time together before the new baby comes. :)

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am 27 1/2 weeks pg. My due date is December 27th. I am a bartender/waitress. I have given up most of my bar-tending shifts for waitress ones. It seems a lot easier on my body. I am working 4 nights a week. I just got over pneumonia, being back at work has been very hard. Having a week off and coming back seems like it has made things a lot harder. My feet, legs and back hurt by the middle of my shift. I want to try and stay until the beginning of Dec. longer if I can. This is my fourth pregnancy. It seems that for the rest of them things (financially) worked out much better than they will this time. I can't say for sure when I will leave for ML. After reading all of these posts I know I will be asking my Dr. about inducing me before my due date.

My last day at work was today and I'm due in 28 days. I will take this time to sleep, relax prepare for the baby. I need to finish her laundry and do some major cleaning...Because I live in CA I'm guaranteed 4 weeks off prior to delivery so I figured I may as well take it while I can.

gieanna |

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Oh how I wish I lived in Canada or California! I only get 6 weeks short-term disability leave and 8 weeks if I have a C- section. Even that isn't 100% paid - it is only 65% paid. I work in communications for a large company and am about 40 minutes from the hospital. My boyfriend is an EMT and often has to do transports out of town so he could be up to three hours away when I go into labor. The plan is to work until I go into labor, but I'm 31 weeks and really starting to feel uncomfortable and have trouble controlling my emotions at work. We'll see how long I last....

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm in retail management and I'm on my feet and running around 10 hours a day so I plan on starting maternity 10 weeks before my due date. In the UK maternity laws are very generous as you get 6 months paid leave and can have an optional 6 months unpaid. Can't wait because I'm definitely slowing down now and my back and legs are sore all the time. I know I won't be bored because I'll be keeping busy taking care of my home, going to yoga classes, catching up with friends etc. And it'll be great to just sleep all day if that's what I want!

I'm a photographer so I make my own schedule. I'm due on Feb 18 and I did my last wedding on Sept 24. Being on my feet all day and running around to get the shots was getting harder and harder as my pregnancy went on. I'm still keeping busy doing portraits and other things though. Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I was planning to work until I reach 36 weeks and then I'd have eight weeks or so after baby is born. However my employer is making things difficult for me (I'm 28 weeks now and getting big) and trying to give me a harder job to do. So I think I'll tell my doc that I want to be out by the end of January. My job involves standing for eight hours, lots of bending and very few breaks to sit or eat. I feel sick and ready to collapse by the end of the night. Also have asthma which is not helping. I want to keep working but my health and the health of my baby are much more important than a job like that.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm up in the air on 36 wks & 37 wks. Whenever I ask my husband's oppinion he says unti l i go into labor, BUT i hate my job & already feel like i need a wk off even though i have the option to sit & stand when i need to. If i go at 36 wks I'll have almost a month's worth of leave saved but if i go at 37 wks i'll have a whole month. i'm playing on applying 4 the paid family leave (from unemployment) plus 2 co-workers said they'd donate me leave. So i think i'm set ay 36 wks. I'm not the type to go stir crazy sitting at home plus no one around here cleans except me. The time off will give me the last chance to sleep in (like my husband does right now since he only goes 2 school mon & fri & sometimes works the wkends) & get things cleaned & situated 4 the baby. I'm just afraid if I go at 37 wks he'll come that wk lol

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I just filled out my FMLA papers yesterday and put my due date (4/7/11) down as my last day. They said that I can keep working after that though (if I don't have the baby) so that I can take a full 12 weeks off. :) With my first child, I had her on what was supposed to be my last day at work. I work in a hospital and am very busy, walking, lifting, bending... basically in constant motion. I think that really helped me to stay feeling good. However, the last day that I did work... I can remember sitting on the bathroom floor and crying to myself because I didn't think I was going to make it another day. lol Well I didn't! :)

I initially thought so too but I was recently informed that FMLA benefits mothers to take off up to 1 month before delivery date and 12 weeks after delivery date. Was I misinformed?

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am 37 weeks, second time pregnant, still working- and it sucks! This has been a harsh pregnancy, and now walking is a killer! I wish I could quit working any day now, but the truth is, can't afford it. My vacation rolls over in February- I just have to wait it out with 34-40 hr work weeks. Oye.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I took 10 days off before my due date...it is just getting too uncomfortable. about 15 months ago, I broke my pelvis, tailbone and breast plate in a car accident and just recently started having problems. I would have worked until my due date if I had an easy desk job but that was not the case! Today is my first day off...and I am enjoying every minute of it :)

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am currently 40.5 weeks and I keep going to work each day until baby arrives or Dr. tells me otherwise. Luckily the next 2 days are Sat/Sun & then I go back to the Dr. on Monday. Hopefully we'll be in labor instead of work soon!!!!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

@ sandra01234: I hear you on that one! Being in the military we don't have a choice on when we want to take off work before the baby gets here. Normally we don't get time off before unless it's bed rest/quarters but after the baby is born we do get 42 (normal pregnancy/delivery) days off of work.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I went off work and onto medical leave at 5 months and a bit because I couldn't manage the hours that I worked and the physical strain on my body was just too much (I assist people with disabilities in a group home setting). There isn't really that much flexability in my job so after a discussion with my dr., medical leave seemed like the best answer. Since then I have felt so much better and less stressed. Able to sit when I need to and find I have more energy to get the things done that I need to get done and can do them at my own pace. I will still get my full year of Mat leave starting the day the baby is born.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work with preschoolers who are very active and I am constantly running after them. I am not due until April 17, and planned on working until April 1, but after the past couple of weeks I have decided that I am going to stop working at the end of the second week of March. Swollen ankles at the end of the day keep me from getting baby things done by the time i get home from work, so I think i will enjoy a month off to cook and freeze meals, make sure the nursery is ready and just relax before my little man makes his debut. :) Good luck to all you other ladies out there!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am at 32 weeks and not sure when I'll be done. Originally I had said the week before I was due thinking that would be enough time. Now at 32 weeks my right rib is in constant pain and I've now got a feeling like I have a bruised pubic bone!! I drive quite a bit for work, sit on the floor with children and also sit at a desk to do paperwork and that is when my rib is the most uncomfortable. I'm not sure how much longer I will make it but I'm holding on to the hope that maybe I'll take off 2 weeks before my EDD...here's hoping I can stay comfortable that long.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

In Canada we get almost one year paid (no more that $450 a week) and we can share it with our spouse. I consider us very lucky compared to those of you in the US. I plan on working until 32 weeks since I'm a supply teacher and it's getting very difficult to do my job without stress causing BH contractions. The last think I need to to go into full blown labour while teaching a math lesson at a school where I know absoloutely no one!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I think it depends on your job. I planned to work until the end but found it too difficult. As a teacher, I'm on my feet all day working with the kids, plus all of the after work commitments required, 50-60 hours a week just isn't possible for me. My last day is 37.5 weeks and I'm grateful for a rest.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am only 25 weeks but i have low laying placenta. At my work they immediately put you on light duties when pregnant but i am still on my feet 8-9 hours a day.. within the last 2 weeks i find it harder and harder to do my work and after every shift i am very sore. If i cut back my hours i lose much needed pay so in 2 days i will find out if they put me on sick leave before putting me on mat leave saving me from the pain and loss of wages! fingers crossed!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant and my EDD is May 21st and I plan on my last day either being April 29th or May 6th I haven't decided if I want the extra week off. I'm not going back to work after the baby is born. Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I plan on working up until I can't anymore. I work at a doctor's office that has several former OB doctors. It's also about half the distance from the hospital that my house is. What better place to go into labor?

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm currently 34 weeks, and will be working up until the Friday before my due date. I had a pretty easy pregnancy, with slight back & pelvic pain in the last couple weeks. The max maternity leave I can take, besides using vacation, is 12 weeks, so I won't need to return to work until the end of July. My last baby shower is in a couple of weeks, and I'm taking a few days off after that to finish preparing the nursery, washing clothes, and packing the hospital bag. We have made no plans for the weekends up until delivery, so I can maximize my relaxation.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

This definitely is one that is different for everyone. Many of my friends have been able to work up until they give birth. For me, I had to quit 8 weeks before my due date. I had to constantly stand at my work and my son would press really hard on one spot causing me a lot of pain. Luckily, my fiance has a great job so I get to stay home even after Jace is here!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm not actually due until June 5th, but my last day of work is April 16th. I'm Type 1 Diabetic so being pregnant is tricky to begin with and the doctor is almost positive I will go into labor or have to get a Csection a few weeks early. The baby is expected to be larger than what they think I cna handle. My husband is 100% behind me taking off and relaxing and doing the whole "nesting" thing. We're also lucky to live with my parents right now, so we have a lot of help. I know I'm getting quite uncomfortable already, being on my feet for even 4 or 5 hours is tough, I can't imagine going much further. I have to give a lot of props to the women who work up until they give birth!!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work in the deli of a small family owned store. Everyone there is really awesome and do almost all the lifting and anything else I cant do. I am 27 weeks pregnant and not sure when I am going to stop working. I have always been in really good physical shape from working on a farm for years but I stopped working there right before my wedding in August 2010. I am on my feet up to 8 hours now and feel really tired when I leave but fine other then that. I really want to work up until due date (June 30) because I am done working there after I have the baby and I am friends with everyone there. I also feel silly asking people to do things that I have always been able to do. Right now I am just not sure what I REALLY want to do (pregnant brain doesn't help, lol).

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

It is what you make it. I am working. Yes it hurts, as the baby is pressing on my pelvis and my hips often feel like hey are ut of place and frequently pop. I am exausted and drinking coffee is a must-it's eiher drink coffee or lose medical insurance from my company. But if you have to, you can work regardless. It just depends-which do you need more: pain relief or a pay check. The moral of the story-you can work up until the end and through the pain, and no you won't die.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm about 34 weeks pregnant currently and still working at a retail store as an assistant manager. The job requires me to be on my feet during the whole shift, but-- thankfully, I have a very relaxed environment and understanding coworkers. I have already set my last day to be when I reach 36 weeks, as my pregnancy has not been very difficult. :) Thank goodness! I think it really does depend on what you are going through and your own personal circumstances. I wanted the extra time off for myself and my husband-- also, to prepare for the little one! :D

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am currently schedule to be off 4 weeks before my due date. I'm one of the lucky ones to be in Canada with 52 weeks for maternity/paternity leave (and still get 55% of my income). We are also lucky enough, if the doctor puts us on sick leave, we can get another 15 weeks on top of that. I was thinking with 4 weeks I would be bored but we are moving during that time. The great thing is I can pack and rest as needed.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

My plan is to work as long as I can. I am the primary income earner for my household and I cannot afford to lose much pay. I also work at a hospital so I'm not too concerned about going into labor at work. I will be taking the full 6 weeks off of work after the baby has arrived. Hopefully I will get the full 6 weeks since there have been a lot of circumstances lately that may force me to go back to work early. My daughter is my main priority and I hope to spend as much time with her as I possibly can before going back to work.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm due July 21 and I'll stop working 7 weeks before then. My job requires me to be on my feet for 10 hours days and I'm constantly bending down to lift children, I already have back discomfort at 7 months. Also, we will be moving houses during the last two months and I can only focus on one major commitment at a time now days. If I had a less laborious job and wasn't moving I would consider taking only the prior 3 weeks off. I think pregnant women deserve this time to themselves and, financials aside, should be entitled to any amount of time off that allows them to prepare for mommyhood. <3

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working up until my due date of 6-6-11 and if she is late (which I hope she is) (my 5 year old is graduating on the 6th) then I will be back at work on the 7th. I want to have as much time off with my girls this summer as possible.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm a waitress and although I don't work long hours, I am on my feet for 4-5 hours running around and carrying trays filled with food and drinks. I'm 34 weeks now and have decided that my last 4 weeks before my due date are my time off. Being on my feet after just a few hours, my feet throb and burn and my knees ache... they hurt so bad that I can barely walk the rest of the day..... so for me, I decided a month off will do me some good to rest, take care of the nursery, find a pediatrician, have my shower, and everything else :)

Well since my babies never seem to want to come out (I was dialated to 5cm with my third before they decided to induce me) I have an induction date and am able to work up until that day. Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work as an EMT-B. The only saving grace has been that my company has a power litter that saves me a heck of a lot of lifting. My job can be easy some shifts, and chaos on others. In addition to the 70lb power stretcher, I carry a 25lb gear bag, and then any additional equipment the Paramedic needs. I had wanted to come off the truck the beginning of August, being due on September 23rd. Financially it's just not feasible. I will continue to work until 1 of 2 things occur, I can't work around the belly anymore or I can no longer climb my preggo behind into the truck to do my job. Fingers crossed this is later in the scheme of things than sooner.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

It depends on the person and doc's recommendation. I am 40 weeks and 5 days along and completely fine to work. But my job is not that stressful and I am able to take breaks as needed. I would like as much paid time off as possible with the baby once he is born. If he doesn't come this week, I will be induced the night of 4th of July. I can not survive on short-term disability pay for 12 weeks.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working up until 4 weeks before my due date. Also, FYI any of you girls work in NJ, there is this new law or statute that allows an additional 6 weeks PAID in addition to your normal 12 weeks off. Its called Family Leave Insurance, not FMLA. (I am taking it) The more time I have to bond the better! Best of luck to everyone! :-)

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Bottom line - every pregnancy is different and we can do all the planning in the world. But in the end it is up to our bodies and babies how long we can work. This is my third pregnancy and I am at 32 weeks and made all the plans for me to work until my due date only to have very powerful bh contractions and exhaustion. I was taken out of work for 5 days and will be going back hopefully in two. I am hoping to continue to work if not full time then part time until this lil bundle arrives. I hope everyone listens to their bodies and has a wonderful experience either at home or at the office :)

I am pretty much waiting for my husband to tell me I can stop. I will not be going back to work for at least 6 months after our little one is born. Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I plan to work right up until I go into labor. I work as a counselor at a university and I'm fortunate to have an office that is very flexible and where I can basically set my own schedule. I do worry my water breaking when I'm with a client though... Even better is the hospital is basically across the street from my work. The problem is that due to economic reasons, my DH is currently living and working in a city about 3 hours away, so unfortunately I'm going to have to deal with early labor without him :(

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working up till a week before I'm due, which is September 17th! I have an office job so it isn't as bad as it could be but it is still hard! My sister worked until she was 7months and advised that I work as long as I can as she said it felt like her pregnancy would never end! I think the thought of having a week to finish up the last things you need to do and get that pedicure or hair appointment in is good too!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

In Canada we are very lucky, we can go on sick leave (if the doctor will sign off, which most do) before the baby is born, then get 17 weeks maternal leave and 35 weeks parental leave (which either parent can take) all of it paid at 55% of your normal salary. So like most here, I plan on going on sick leave 2-4 weeks before the due date so that I can relax and prepare... I can't wait!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm 34 weeks, my due date is 12/09 and my last day is November 10. I'm also in retail management which involves a lot of bending, walking and standing for 8 hours even though my feet swell like I'm a hippo about an hour after standing, and I've been to the hospital twice because of stress, recently for swelling/blood clot and the babies heart rate dropped dangerously lowso I think its my time to take care of my son first. I work for a very stressful company, I've been with them for five years with great attendance and am willing to work up until I start labor but cutting my hours and they said no, and that work comes first and I have to plan around work. So fingers crossed I get approved for my short term disability tomorrow!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am 36 wks and 7 days, EDD is supposed to be Nov 20. I was planning on working up until the end but had decided to stop working early since I've had 2 trips to the hospital already in 2 wks for early signs of labor, had my contractions stopped on each trip and my OB put me on strict bedrest for 2 weeks. I work as a nurse and work 12 hour shifts so I'm constantly on the move (no heavy lifting though) so that most likely stimulated my contractions. I decided that for my safety and my baby's it's been my 2nd week of maternity leave and my 2nd week of bedrest. It was a short notice for my work but they did not have any problem with it and they were very accommodating.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a time of major changes for every woman, everything from your appetite to your libido and your sleeping patterns seem to be in a constant fluctuation. At first these changes are subtle, but starting with the second trimester they become more pronounced, that's why I recommend to all pregnant women and especially to working moms to take a maternity leave as soon as possible, preferable in the second trimester, that way they can take the time for themselves to become friends with their constantly changing body.

My scheduled c-section is on February 29th, and I plan to work until the 28th, though I may take a half day and go pamper myself, as the procedure is booked for early in the morning. I have been working more now, between 32 and 37 weeks, than I have pretty much EVER! I have nobody to fill in for me and must delegate many of my daily tasks to others in my department, but I have the luxury of doing a lot of reporting ahead of time and have done so thus far. I'm finished up through April! These are the last few weeks of my job being the top priority in my life, and I want to take full advantage (because I am one of the lucky few who loves her job).

I just started my leave 2 weeks before due date. We just bought a house so we won't be bored because moving day is tommorrow and if I go early I won't have to leave work driving myself alone. Working with people who are needy makes pregnancy harder indeed and needed to rest up. Being bored at home is something I have never known because when I am finally home I'm glad to have a chance to do all the things and nesting I'd love to have more time for otherwise. I work for a wonderful company that offers a great 16 week pd maternity leave benefit. Through my benefit, I can take up to two weeks prior to my scheduled due date but I am going to try to work up until a week prior. I am 34 weeks today and already exhausted. I know I will need that week prior to rest up and get last minute stuff done. Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Wow - the Canadian maternity leave benefits are wonderful! I wonder if most of the women saying they are working right up until they go into labor (I am also in this boat) are Americans who feel lucky to get 6 weeks at half pay under their company's STD benefit... If I had more time i might consider taking some time off before the baby arrives; not only to get things ready but to spend some of the last one-on-one time with my son before his sister arrives! But with only 6 weeks off I couldn't imagine using even a day of it before she is here. I can hardly stand the thought of leaving my 6 week old baby in someone else's care so I can go back to work... I should have moved the Canada!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm working up until 31 weeks. I was planning on working longer but my job requires me to stand for all but a short break in the heat of the day. I decided that especially because I am much bigger than I thought I would be at this point that sooner would be better. Its getting much much harder to get through the day.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I wanted to stay working until the closer to my due date. Unfortunately, I have had severe swelling on my feet, ankles, legs and hands and also had hypertension. So my doctor pulled me out of work and ordered for bed rest. I'm not due until November! I really didn't want to leave too early but my baby comes first and I need to be healthy!!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I think it depends on the type of job you do, but your doctor is the only one who can tell you when to stop as he is the one who is monitoring your pregnancy. If you are a workaholic, pursue a job smartly, but take care of the human being you are going to give birth as well.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Most women can continue working during pregnancy. Being pregnant, however, might present challenges at the workplace, such as PEO. To stay healthy and productive on the job, understand how to alleviate common pregnancy discomforts — and know when work tasks might jeopardize your pregnancy.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Well, if your in California, lucky for us, we are considered disabled 4wks before due date. Since my job is 90% on my feet, moving, lifting, carrying things, I'm very happy I am able to go out 4wks before.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work as a receptionist at Find Employment company, so I spend a lot of time in front of the computer screen, and that often makes the headaches worse. Lowering the brightness of the screen helps, but it feels like I have been living on Tylenol for the past three weeks. Is it worth it to continue working? I feel like I'm making up excuses, like I'm giving up. Hubby is concerned, but says it's up to me. He's right, but why do I feel so wrong?

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working up until my due date. I am due 1/29/13 and I put in for my last day as the Friday before my due date to give me the weekend prior for last minute things. I have without traffic an hour long drive to and from work..then from my home another 45 mins to the hospital where I will be delivering. My OB and I decided it was a good idea to take a few days before my EDD just in case so I would be closer than 2 hrs to the hospital. Of course if I go into early labor my job already knows to start leave from the delivery of the baby vs my requested leave date.

If you are pregnant and you will have a baby, that doesn't mean that your career is over. You can have a successful professional career even if you are a working mom.

Lionking44- the law you are wondering about is called FMLA (family medical leave act). It doesn't pertain to all jobs so look into it to see if it does for your situation. Some jobs will give you a short term disability. Or if you have state insurance (medicaid) you can get a short term disability from them, i think it is 6 weeks.

Sorry FMLA is family maternity leave act.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I believe when you are in the 6th or 7th month of pregnancy, you can stop working. My wife worked only night shift and she stopped working in the 5th month.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

If I were you I would stop working right away but if your commitment to the field is very high then you will work until the 7th month. Although you should be careful not to get exhausted.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I had hoped to work as long as possible, but as a hs teacher of high needs students, I couldn't keep up. I made it to 38 weeks before tossing in the towel.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work at a school about 2 miles away from the warehouse where my husband works as a truck driver. We carpool everyday and I just keep having this hilarious thought that I will go into labor at work and my husband will have to drive me to the hospital in his giant 18-wheeler! What an entrance that would be! I do plan on working up until my October 14th due date, pending any medical contraindications.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Im a FTM & 33 weeks, due 4/15. I plan on working up until my water breaks, unless my dr tells me otherwise. My job consists of a lot of walking and some light lifting.I am worried though because home & the hospital are at least an hour drive from where I work. When I start going to my weekly visits Im going to ask the dr for her opinion/adivce on when I should take off. I dont want to overdo it, but I also want to work as much as possible because I dont have a paid maternity leave & dont have enough vacation to cover the leave. My bosses know about my situation (with the drive) & are just waiting on my word to take me off the schedule/have a replacement ready to go when I do need to leave. However, I would love to take a permanent leave so I could be a stay at home mommy, but right now every penny counts. Everything with this pregnancy has been really easy and the dr says everything looks good, except baby is measuring slightly bigger than my dates.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I work at the hospital and am planning on working all the way till I go into labor! I joke with people at work that I will be cooking at work (I work in the kitchen) when my water breaks and they can just wheel me to the OB! With my 1st baby (6 years ago) I quit working 2 weeks before my due date, and he was almost 2 weeks late. But the circumstances at that job made it worse for me to be working there (a fast food restaurant) due to High blood pressure...

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I decided to take my maternity leave 2 weeks in advance before my EDD, with that I can still check the things needed before the baby arrives plus I can give extra time for my eldest son, hubby and for myself as well. Getting pregnant doesn't mean you have to sit in a lily pod and be worshipped.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

i'm actually due in just under two weeks, i had planned on working till i go into labor--leave isnt set to start untill my edd of 5/4, tech 5/6 as i work monday-fridays now that they gave me a promotion--which they gave me when i had 9 weeks left in my pregnancy--believe me i question their decision, knowing i was taking 8-12 weeks as i will be trying for a vbac which currently seems to be going to end in a csection as baby is breech, still. Unfortunately in the last two weeks i might have worked a week due to contractions, or pains and other issues-that doctor says are all normal (my first pregnancy was preterm so i didnt get to experience all of this) I'm hoping i can continue to work the next two weeks as i havent started to dilate as of last thursday. Hopefully tomorrow is a good day as i have been out since thursday!! I didnt want to start my leave until i go into labor cuz it would cut down on my actual time with baby and soon to be 3 yr old. but man am i ready for a break from work lol

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I plan to work up to my due date. I am due on a Monday and I plan to work up until Friday. I also work about 2 miles from my hospital so just in case things go awyre I know I am at least really close. We shall see.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am 40 weeks in 2 days, and still working....My last "scheduled" day is Friday (2 days after due) but have told my boss if I have not had the baby by next week I would still be willing to work. I work in the hospital so I would just have to walk down the hall to labor/delivery if it happened while there! My family history is running late. My mother had 3 children and they gained a week each time! My 1st was a week and a half late so I should be good to go for a while longer! hehe

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am only 10 weeks and already feel SO exhausted!!! I heard it gets better in the 2nd trimester. I'm not due until January 15th, but plan to stop working in the beginning of December just to get situated and have time to myself. I won't be returning after, but will work a few days a week from home.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am working until the end. I think I would drive myself crazy if I was at home just waiting for labour. I am only 3 minute drive to work from home and only another 5 minutes to the hospital. Not too worried if anything happens at work. Hopefully I will not be too uncomfortable.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I will be working up until the 31 week mark since my husband and I are making a cross county move to the west coast. This allows me to get the house set up and the baby's room together, while taking some time for myself before the baby comes and both of our families from the east coast. First grandchild for both families.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I am a registered nurse working on a cardiac care floor and am leaving at 36 weeks. I just don't feel that I am performing at 100% of my capability and with lives literally in the balance I'm not taking any chances on less than my best. I am lucky in that I can do this without taking any time off the back end of my leave due to a family-friendly levee policy at my hospital and the leave policies of the state of CA.

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

I'm going out 2 weeks prior to my due date. I live right by the hospital and work is about 35-40 minutes away. I just don't want to be too far in the event something happens earlier than expected. Plus, a little time for some final nesting and Mommy-To-Be pampering is good too!

Q&A: When to stop working during pregnancy?

Well this depends on individual situations and pregnancies. First off it depends on the pregnancy itself, assuming you aren't high risk or having some kind of complications you should be able to work as long as you like. But this also depends on the type of work you do. For me personally I work in a call center and sit at a desk all day so my job is not physically demanding and really isn't stressful either. If I had a job that required me to move around a lot or stand for long periods of time I may have to stop working sooner. But given the type of job I do, I plan on working as long as I possibly can. I would like to use every bit of my maternity leave after my son is born. I already have everything ready for him. I did the same with my daughter, went to work that day, water broke that evening, of course she also was born at 34 weeks and wasn't expected that early so I hadn't even thought about stopping work yet. I'm glad it turned out that way though as there is no reason, unless it's medical to stop working before you have the baby. My son is due 8/18, and even though my doctor says she I will most likely deliver before August, I'm still working. If I happen to go into labor at work, oh well, there are worse places to be, lol.
