When should I have my baby shower?

Re:

When should I have my baby shower?

The Bump Expert

We put this one to our users, and it sounds like earlier is better... Here's what you had to say!

“My shower is planned when I will be 35 weeks along, and I would have preferred it much earlier for planning and shopping purposes. We had to pick the date we chose due to everyone going on vacation for Easter and Spring Break. Convenient for everyone but me!” -Hilarycee
“I had my shower at 32 wks. I personally didn't want to wait any longer because I was getting so uncomfortable. You want to be able to enjoy it as well as have the energy to deal with everything afterwards. You will need to wash the clothes, put everything away, and then go shopping for what you still need. Those things take time and energy which we are quickly running out of!” –sannice1979
“I am having my shower at 35 weeks. I think it is a good time, because I still have plenty of time afterwards to buy anything we still need. However this is the latest I would want it. Any later you are almost considered full term and could deliver any minute. I might not have enough time to buy anything I still need.” -alyadams
“I'm having a work shower at 35 weeks and a family shower at 37 weeks. It is later than most, but it's nice to have something to look forward to at this point. Of course we have to have the essentials (car seat, bassinet) on hand in case of early delivery.” -Sarah&JoeinSC
“I'm having my shower the next two weekends!! I'll be 31 and 32 wks. I think it's a good time for me bc I am still able to get around, so I can shop for what I still need and take back what I don't want.” -asned
“A work shower is planned for me tomorrow at nearly 38 weeks and I think this is WAY too late to be having it (I really did try to decline). I am uncomfortable in my own skin right now and I have NO energy come day's end to spend organizing. At this late point in the game, I feel like I could go into labor at any minute and that my thank-you notes will go out really late. I know people will understand, but it's not the way I like to do things!” -MrsFeisty
“My shower is planned for this weekend, when I am 36 (almost 37) weeks. Although it allowed me a good amount of time to add extra items to my registry, I do wish it was just a couple of weeks earlier. At this point I am too big and I tire too easily to prepare and set up all of these items. Although my husband will help, it is overwhelming at this stage. I wish everything was already here and ready for baby. Once all is set up, I still have to purchase, write, and mail thank you cards...all while being able to ‘go’ at anytime.” -tgifhim
“I had my first when i was 28 weeks b/c that was what worked best for my sisters. Honestly, I LOVED having my first -- bigger -- shower early because I've had a lot of time to go through what I got and set it up and get organized. Plus, that was at the beginning of my 3rd trimester when I still had lots of energy. I'm glad I got tons of big stuff at that shower b/c I can't imagine having to set up all the toys and such at 37 weeks. Plus, earlier showers give you more time to search out the good deals and order stuff online that you need but don't get off your registry.” -mamaerin

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Have it EARLY!! Mine was planned for 35 weeks, and my perfectly healthy daughter was born at 34 weeks! I had to borrow a carseat to get her out of the hospital (I got my own pegperego carseat at the shower one week later). She was the guest of honor at her own shower!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

With my first daughter, I was due November 21st, and my shower was suppose to be October 22. But I went into early labor at the end of September. I'd say around 30-35 weeks, so you can see what you still need to buy for baby. If your high-risk, or already dilating, maybe its best to have a meet and greet after baby is born.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having one at 22 weeks and one at 25 weeks, which in my mind is perfect because my husband and I can budget our baby spending thereafter. Besides that, I am super high energy right now which is awesome for being the guest of honor!!

I'm having mine at 29 1/2 weeks. I want to make sure I have enough time to figure out what else I need before she comes.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had mine in my second trimester after we found out we were having a girl, with this baby however we opted not to find out the sex, so if we have a shower it will be after baby is born!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Isn't it whenever someone offers to throw you one?? I would love to have my shower at 28 weeks to have enough time to set up and prepare the nursery. I think if I don't have things ready before about 35 weeks I will be EXTREMELY stressed which is not good for baby!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having my shower this coming up weekend - i'll be almost 23 weeks. It's really this early bc thats what works best for my sister coming all the way from Germany to throw it! But it's also nice, b/c i know this is my one definite shower, so it'll give me plenty of time to see what i get and what i still need and all that good stuff!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having my shower at 30 weeks, and thats in 8 weeks, I dont want to go any later then that because my doc dont think I'm going to make it to 40 weeks, then I'll still have time to get what ever else I need. Congrats and good luck to everyone with yours. :)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Across the board I see lots of people having 2 showers. Whats the reasoning behind doing so??? Just curious... :)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Well I'm due March 1st and I told me SIL I think it would be good to do it around the end of January, just because I want to give people a break from Christmas, so I was thinking a month away from the holidays would be good, but reading this board, I'm kind of nervous having it a month from my due date. Should I leave it or bump it up a little??

RebeccaMichael |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

What's the point in having a shower before hand????? Personally, I think that it is the parents-to-be responsibility to purchase all of the big items so that friends and family don't have to shell out hundreds of dollars for that, plus then the parents can get what they want out of a carseat, stroller, crib, etc..... Plus, if you do not find out what the sex of the baby is how do you buy anything? I am due in February and I won't have a shower until probably March. That way too friends and family get to meet the little bundle of joy!!!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Friends are throwing me a shower in November and I am due early January. We wanted to avoid the hectic holiday season. A family shower is planned for about a month or so after I have the baby so that everyone can see the baby (otherwise, they'll have to wait until Easter). Personally, I'd prefer to have showers before the baby because I'm sure I'll be darn tired afterwards and look like crap but I'm leaving it up to my family. The only pro of an after-shower in my opinion is so people can see the baby all at once and your doorbell isn't ringing constantly with unexpected visitors after the baby is born.

plans4bean |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having a family shower at 29 weeks. This allows the family to get together for an afternoon as well as celebrate the baby. I'm having another one for friends at 34 weeks. It would be just too big to combine both of these groups. I'm sure there will be another smaller one in there some where for just work friends as there are two of us who are due a week and a half apart. Having a shower before hand lets you get the stuff you know you'll need like diapers, bibs, bottles, etc, before the baby is born. You need those things anyway no matter what the sex is! Besides this gives you time to shop for all the other needed items without spending too much. Babies are already expensive enough!!!

RDavis72 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We don't have showers planned yet (I am at 21 weeks now), but are finding that the most difficulty thing for us is working around holidays. I am due Jan. 21st, and know that it makes it a lot harder for people to shop around the holidays, especially with the down economy. To make it even more difficulty, my sister-in-law is due mid-October, and my husband's family always has the showers thrown by the mother- and sisters-in-law. I also have three other friends pregnant, all due before me, and trying to plan around their showers and not have our other friends get hit with three showers in one month is getting really tough. I actually think the meet-n-greet after the baby is born is going to be better for us, that way if people want to bring gifts they can.

michellebrue |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm getting ready to start my 32nd week, but we're waiting until after the baby comes to have the shower. It's 80% likely to be a girl, but you all know there's no way to be sure until the crying begins! And I definitely don't want everything to be green and yellow or have to return a bunch of pink stuff if it ends up being a boy. Our immediate families are purchasing the immediate necessities anyways, so our friends will just be able to buy the extras after the baby comes.

papita27 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I would say you should have a baby shower about two months before your due date. This way you have time to go over everything you got and buy all the things you didnt get and may still need . You also have time to take back things you may have gotten a lot of.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im 26 weeks and due on christmas eve. I want to have it somewhat earlier to ensure that I myself am up for it. I also would like to be able to prepare and organize everything I receive at the shower. Problem is is that Im not sure if Sending invitations out now is enough notie to have it before the holidays start. I live outta state from all my family and having to travel with the baby and all that stuff would be very hectic, so Im not sure about doin it afterwards. I just havent got a clue, but its starting to weigh on me.

king5lomo |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm doing two... a "traditional" one for my family and close family friends to satisfy them and then doing a "co-ed" for all of our friends boy and girl. I think that times are a lot different now and I know my hubbie and some of his friends are super excited about having a new addition to the group so I think they should be able to celebrate too! And hey two showers, two-times the presents. And to some people on here who say that you shouldn't expect gifts and should buy everything themselves, it's not really about recieving them most of the time, it's also about letting the people who are care about you and the baby give you something you need that's useful and from the heart :)

Kdavis1071 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I like to have mine at 34 weeks. That way, there is only 6 more weeks until the due date and the baby can come as early as 3 weeks after. The earlier you have the shower, the longer people will be waiting for you to have the baby..and bugging you in the process.

CasondraMJ |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im having my baby shower at 29 weeks. I love it becaue it gives me time to shop for the things I want but didn't get. And it gives my fiancee and I time to organize the nursery and become comfortable with the new surrounding.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm due at the end of February and it's difficult for me to decide when to have mine. I live in the northeast where the weather can be unpredictable so I worry for out-of towners. I was thinking mid-December but I think that would be too hectic with the holidays so I guess early January? Any thoughts?

KristyS17 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm due February 10th, and I think mine are going to be at the end of this month or first weekend of November. My husband and I got married the first week of November last year, and we learned that November through January are bad for people because of the pending holidays. I don't want anyone to have to skip a Christmas present for someone else because they are getting a baby shower gift, ya know? Plus less people will be traveling that way. I didn't want to wait until mid or late January because with me being adopted and a first-time mom, I don't know if premature birth is a possibility for me and didn't want to be hurting for "baby stuff" if the baby is born early!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm going to have my baby shower at 25 weeks. Just for the simple fact in my last pregnancy I had a baby shower planned when I was about 31 weeks and did not get a chance to attend the baby showe, due to high blood pressure and sugar in my urine. I dont know how I drove myself to the hospital. That's just how high my blood pressure was. So this time around I'm away from my family, but my bff in Sc where I stay now is giving me a shower. The timing is right due to the fact that Thanksgiving and Xmas is coming up and people will be out of money after the holidays.

tsmitty905 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I believe my first shower will be at 31 weeks. I'm happy it's earlier for the same reasons other moms-to-be have listed. I want time to get organized while I can still comfortably move around. My friends are looking to throw me one around week 35/36, this is a great idea for the smaller and missed items from your first shower. Either way we feel blessed!

sue92linc |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My husbands mother plan my first childs baby shower which turn out so wonderful. But she had it after my baby was born in Feburary. I wouldn't suggest you have your shower after the baby's born because of all the germs and viruses going around and people are going to want to hold your baby. This is the time for the parents to relax and let the person planning the shower do their job.

miraclebabe101 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having mine when I'm 6 months along. 3 of my friends had planned their showers 1 month before their delivery date and non of them made it to their shower. They all went into labor 1-2 1/2 months early. So I am having mine early so hopefully I can avoid not having enough time to set up and buy what we still need.

jmorton83 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am 21 weeks pregnant. My due date is February 28. A friend of mine offered to throw me a shower in December but although she will be graduating. I am wondering if we should have it then because of the holidays and stress of graduation. Another friend of mine suggested a diaper shower and that I could possible have another shower after the holidays. Is that too much?

Lawryn8 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We're not finding out the sex, so we're having one after the baby is born. I agree with the after delivery posts, a baby is our responsibility and I hate the idea of making people feel like they have to buy us expensive gifts for our child, plus it feels like having one after will make more sense, that way everyone can see it at one time, and I don't need a bunch of people coming on different days to visit. Plus it doesn't seem really ethical to throw one yourself, so it's just a waiting game to see if family/friends have one.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

ours is planned for 28 weeks...we have to do it before the snow starts here plus like some of you have mentioned we want to know what is left for us to buy and i know my parents what to get stuff so better to do it all now :-) any suggestions on simple games? its a co-ed shower we're not really the traditional type of couple and i'm such a tom boy i really dont' to many of those games..we plan to have food and decorations..but what activitys are simple and won't make me nauseous ??:-)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Yolanda32: Originally, I thought not...but, my mom usually plans the showers for my sisters and for my first child almost 8years ago. Unfortunatly, this time...she was diagnosed with Cancer, so I've taken over for her, to keep the stress off of her. This way she can focus on fighting, and being there. So normally, the expectant doesn't plan, but as per everything else, there are circumstanced when I think it's ok. I've also got my sisters and the MIL to help out, so I'm not completely alone in the planning. We're also planning for around the 30 week mark, because I'm high-risk, and who knows what will happen.

taffie |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I just want to comfort those of you stressed out about getting all the stuff and setting it up before the baby is born. All a newborn really needs is diapers, a car seat, your boob, a few packs of sleepers, and a safe place to sleep. A sling carrier makes things easier too. All the toys, swings, and other contraptions aren't necessary immediately. Your baby can't even see further than the distance from our breast to your face so don't stress how the nursery looks.

titania9 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We are due at Easter but won't be having a shower. We're having a 'meet & greet' at the end of April instead so everyone can meet our little one. We have already purchased everything we need so we've decided to have a book theme where everyone buys a book that was either their childhood favourite or their child's favourite. Our thank yous will be given on the day in the form of a book mark and then we plan to send out updated photos a month or so after thanking everyone once again.

Rach210 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I will be having my "big" shower at 33 weeks so that I (hopefully) will have time to get everything set up and organized before baby gets here. My friends at work will be having one a few weeks after that and then my sister-in-law, who can't make it home until after the baby is born, is having a "diaper shower" for me once baby gets here. :)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm actually going to be having 4 showers. My work is throwing me one. I'm expecting that one to be pretty small. My husband's work is throwing us one, and its usually pretty large. I used to work for his company so I know most of the women that will be there. My mother is throwing me a huge one with friends and family. And my best friend is giving me my wish of having a small private shower with just close friends, gifts NOT required. It's a lot to schedule!

slrosenbaum |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I only have a couple of female friends and don't live near my family or my DH's family. I don't know what to do. Do I host my own? Does my husband set it up for me? Do I venture so far as to ask someone to do it? I really don't know what's appropriate here and don't want to do the wrong thing, but really want to enjoy all aspects of the pregnancy. Input is appreciated!

paislee30 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Many people have multiple showers, we are expecting our 1st in late July and currently have 4 showers booked and a fifth in discussion. All will be held in May or early June and the number of showers is due to both my hubby and I having large, spreadout families. One shower for my relatives in Cincinnati, one shower for his relatives in Cincinnati (two separate weekends mind you, or we would never get all of the stuff home in one trip), one shower in Columbus given by my mom's friends, one shower in Columbus given by my MIL's friends and possibly one given by our couple friends...wow, it is exhausting to even think about but there is no way I want to attend a shower with over 200 guests.

rmattis |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

paislee30-personally, I would host my own baby shower...especially if this is your first child! Just make sure you register and when you send your baby shower invites, whether everyone makes it or not, they can still send a gift. In my experience, family and friends will always send something! I'm having mine at 30 weeks and my work is hosting one a little later...cant wait!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am going to be 33 weeks, when i was pregnant with my first son i had it at 38 weeks and only 10 days later i had my son and it was too much rush to get things organized...so i say 6 weeks ahead is better

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

With my first pregnancy I planned and hosted my own shower. It was supposed to be two weeks before my due date, but my water ended up breaking that same evening after the shower and she was here the next day! Apparantly all the fun and excitement made her decide to join us a little early! I dont know if I will be planning my own this time around or if somebody is doing it for me, but I GUARANTEE it will be at LEAST 6 weeks ahead of time!!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I have more of a question than a comment.... i am pregnant with my second child, i had a boy and am now prgnant with a girl. is it normal to have more than one baby shower? my parents say that its unheard of, but the lady at babies r us who does the registries said that many woman have multiple showers one for each child.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Question: I was going to have my shower at 34 weeks. Unfortunately I had to cancel it. (I was financing and planning it myself and using my good friend as the hostess only in print- as no one offered to throw me one). Hubby and I moved out of state 1 yr ago and I was planning on flying back and staying at a hotel etc...but I only got 4 yes RSVP's out of 44. (MIL declined to come as she didn't want to travel form back east) I am devastated my sisters, mom, cousins, and aunts arn't more excited that they couldn't even commit to 3-4 hours of an afternoon. I attended and traveld for most of theirs. Now at 41 yrs old with my first child...chances of a second baby are slim to none, do I have the right to read these people the riot act?

dresden |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I think you should have your baby shower at around 30 weeks so you can set up and take it easy the last couple of weeks of pregnancy.

jacque3babies |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I too have never heard of having a shower for your second/third/etc babies??? I know times have changed of course, and perhaps it's the new thing to do, but traditionally a shower is for your first baby...Kind of like a wedding shower for every time you get married if you've been divorced and remarried even once??? Again, maybe I'm way off the mark and things have changed, I just thought with so many thinking "I don't want others to feel they have to buy everything" this really goes way past that! I'm all for a first shower, and I don't feel that "people are responsible for buying all my baby's things", they are happy to do it, because they know that a) it helps me, my DH and our baby, and b) if they don't want to or can't contribute a gift/money etc, they don't have to! It's not a condition of coming to the shower and a card with well wishes and support is enough!

des183 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I would say have it between 28-30 weeks. Children are born from 5 weeks early to 2 weeks late. You don’t want to be one of the women who get caught off guard and not have everything ready. You still want to allow yourself enough time after the baby shower to get anything else that may be needed.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My mother and sister are planning on giving me a baby shower at 26 weeks. I would prefer to have it later, but I live 9 hours away and wouldn't want to make the trip too much futher in the pregnacy. My husband's friends are also giving him a diaper shower, which I think is a great idea to make him feel as special about becoming a first time parent as I do. My question is: Does anyone think 26 weeks is too early for a baby shower? Should we try to push it back a few more weeks?

shannon181 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I would like to have my shower at 32/33 weeks. I'm 25 weeks now but in 4 weeks I'm getting married. I think it will be too much for everyone if I have my shower earlier since most people will be giving us wedding presents. But we are kind of running into Easter and spring break time. I am also liking the idea of having a shower after the baby is born. There are no holidays around June :)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I think I'll have mine around 30-31 weeks, at which time my tummy will be big enough for fun (right now at 21 weeks it's not!!) and when I'll still comfortable and will have time to do more shopping afterwards.

well this is my 6th child but my first shower. im thinking about having it a couple days before my 32 week. we are having a coed one at the park to do a cook out and just like a get togather so the guys can wonder off fishing or eentertaining the other kids if they dont want to do the games just making it a fun day for everyone cuz i think thats the point anyway is everyone together enjoying the fact that we are adding another life to the party its not the gifts for me

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My husband and I live out of state from all of our family and his parents live in Thailand. We're going home at week 27 for the shower. We have to have it early. Any later and I would probably be too uncomfortable to drive for 12 hours each way and shipping that much stuff is just not an option. We weren't even planning on a baby shower... our family wants to have one for us. To those who think it's ridiculous to have a shower - usually someone is throwing it for you; you're not having it for yourself. At 27 weeks, we'll be able to set up what we have and get what we don't have in time for baby and while I can still handle it.

rebeccadunn24 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am currently 21 weeks. There is a little problem with who is supposed to have my shower so I told my mom and sister to plan one themselves instead of waiting for someone else. I believe they want to plan it for the end of May begining of June when I'll be about 30 to 33 weeks.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

After two miscarriages and friends and family members having stillbirths (5 in the last 3 years), we're opting to have a Baby Blessing instead. There is very little an infant actually needs, so at about one month, we'll have a party to celebrate baby's birth! Another plus, no awkward games just lots of love for mama, daddy, and babe.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Mine will be around 27 weeks. I want to be able to have plenty of time to shop and get sales prices for things we don't get at the shower... and I want to be able to ENJOY my shower, too!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I thought you only get a shower if someone offers to throw it for you, and that you only get one baby shower EVER. Who wants to keep buying crap for people who already have a kid? If you're in a position to opt to have more than one, then you should be able to handle buying things on your own..

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having my second baby, and for him/her (hopefully we find out next week) we will be having a "baby sprinkle." He/she is due the end of Sept., we have pretty well everything we need, so "Labor Day" Weekend, we'll be having a "Labor Party Labor Day" (get it :) And we aren't asking for anything. If anyone wants to get us anything, they can call my mother and she will direct them to a registry I set up in case someone feels like they want to buy soemthing, but we don't feel right asking for gifts for a second child, hence the "sPrinkle" not a "Shower."

mamafoxX2 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

As far as everyone's comments about having showers for subsequent children, my family operates under one rule of thumb. If the most recent child is over the age of 5, it is okay to have another shower. My sister and I will both be having children that are 8 years apart in age. At this point, neither one of us had anything from the first child left. We didn't want to store that much stuff, not to mention that there are certain baby items that are only good for 3-5 years. Technically, you are not supposed to use a car sear that is over 3 years old. Just a little food for thought for you guys.

what I've always been told is that the baby shower is still a party for the parents-to-be; after you've already had a child, you are no longer a "to-be" because you ARE a parent. Sometimes you manage to have multiple showers (work, friends, family) but you shouldn't have one again for subsequent children. I have seen parents do both. Some refuse to have another shower. My mom was thrown a surprise shower for my little brother, which was rather interesting for me to attend as a 9 yr. old. I know some decide that if the babies are a different gender than the last one, its okay. And some people throw a party for each child. I will admit that I was rather uncomfortable at the baby shower for the girl, with her almost 3 year old climbing in my lap to steal my cake. I'm not sure if I will even accept the invite to the shower being planned for baby #3 (due 2 weeks before baby #2's first birthday). All 3 of her kids are boys. If I do go, it will mostly be because she lives across the street and is due only 3 months before me (beg off the outgrown stuff as she loses the need for it!).

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Babyshower or Meet & Greet? I still can’t decide. I had one miscarriage already at 22 weeks, so that goes to show that anything can happen at anytime during pregnancy so to avoid awkwardness a meet & greet would fit in best. But I also want to keep positive with this pregnancy. Besides, I like the idea of distracting myself looking at the wonderful gift we would receive from family and friends at the Baby shower. Instead of making the wait drag by having nothing to do. we should not be stressing trying to have everything we supposedly need before the baby arrives. As long as I have the car seat, diapers, couple onsies, couple changes of clothes and blanket, everything else can wait, I think. Meet and Greet, I think it’s a great idea that we can have a day where people can come and meet the baby. That would put less stress on family & friends because you would be giving a “welcome come and see the baby” and they won’t have to worry about inconveniently stopping by when baby or mommy are finally resting. Also less stress for the parents because they would have time to physically and mentally prepare for visitors, instead of trying to look fresh when in reality you are tired because a visitor just left but guess what someone else just stop by. You are really happy they stopped by but you can’t express it behind all that tiredness.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Baby shower for #2 and #3…etc I think at any stage in our lives we need the support from family and friends, and its just fun to celebrate each child because they are each a blessing. I guess for us it’s just the fun time we spend with family and friends that counts, not really what gift can we get out of the baby shower so I won’t buy it myself. I really won’t save much baby stuff because by the time I have a 2nd or 3rd child there would be a lot of new cute stuff. Instead of having stuff stored away taking up space for just in case moments, someone else (maybe less fortunate) can benefit from it now.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

 Should parents to be plan a baby shower or family and friends? We usually have 2-4 baby showers depending how close the two family members, and the friends are to make one big one or 3 small ones, and also how long you have worked at your job, if its been long enough they will through you one too. Usually in our family, the Parent’s Mother’s, aunts, cousins and friends plan a Surprise baby shower for the Mom and Dad to be. They usually all chip in with different things, for instance couple people would provide different dishes for the food and dessert, other would take care of the games, another would provide their home, some one else will take care of decoration….etc. So, I kind of have to wait to have a baby shower. As a family we really don’t expect big gift from anyone, just something simple like diapers, wipes, cute outfit…etc the grandparents usually are the ones to give a big gift like the car seat, stroller…etc. It’s not really something that you have to do; it’s really what you want to do from your heart.  When to have a baby shower? It probably depends on many different factors, holidays, family events, pregnancy risks are just some.  Let’s not stress about little things, one thing at a time. Be happy and stress free everything will fall into place, just believe it.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am due Sept 24th with twins. The Dr already told me i can almost expect to go about a month before then. We have my shower planned for July 18. I want to have time to put stuff away, wash clothes and shop for what else i need BEFORE they get here!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am waiting until about a month after the baby is born to have a shower. we will know whether we got a boy or girl so people can buy gender specific items and that way everyone can see the baby!! hopefully I will have everything ready in time but my family has already been very helpful.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had to pan my own and it was awful. DH's family kept asking me if was having one and didn't have any close girlfriends or family on my side who would throw me one. I planned the whole thing while very preg and very sick. I had morning sickness the whole 9 months. Then practically no one came. I will never plan my own again where family is involved. We didn't have one at all for baby #2 and it's been 6 yrs since #2 so for #3 (who is out first boy) I am trying to get a friend to help plan and host!

I will be between 30-33 weeks when I have my shower. They have not chosen the date yet, I only know it's in aAugust. I am also having a shower 3-5 weeks after I deliver. I cannot wait!!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having mine at 31 weeks. I'm sort of high risk and want to be able to enjoy the shower and get everything put up prior to baby arrival.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I don't really have a say in *when.* an aunt offered to throw my shower, and as of right now, I know that she is thinking September. I'm due early November, which puts the shower between 31 and 34 weeks. that seems reasonable, but it's annoying that I don't know anything more specific.

nirbhao |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

It's highly recommended to have a baby shower 2 months prior to the due date. My due date in 10/17/10 and the baby shower is 8/21/10. Gives parents more than enough time to receive gifts, shop and be very prepared for the baby's arrival.

LMalachi |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm not sure when mine will be yet (I'm only 23 weeks) but I'm hoping for early 30s. We're trying not to buy much of anything until after the shower. Not because I think my friends and family should feel responsible for buying all my baby's things, but because I know they'll WANT to participate and be the one to give their favorite baby thing. I want to give people as many options as possible to buy something that sort of reflects their personality as givers! (practical, crafty, cutesy, ect) Then everyone I love has a tiny piece of my baby's childhood! But after that, OF COURSE, we'll be happy to purchase whatever is left! No expectations, right!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im due 12/4/10. My friends are throwing me one at 29 weeks, and since my family doesn't get along my moms side is throwing me one at 31 weeks and my dads side is throwing me one at 34 weeks. Then after the baby is born there will be another one for my husbands side. I would really like to only have like 2 baby showers but i guess the more the merrier!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My church is supposed to be throwing me a shower at the end of August when I'll be almost 36 weeks and my best friend is planning one the begginning of September when I'll be about 37 weeks. I would personally have preferred at least a few weeks earlier but didn't really get a say in the matter. I think it's really a little too late at that point to be having to search out, buy and set up whatever I don't get at the showers.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im having mine at 36 weeks! Scary thought since this is my first baby and I am so not prepared. Its coed however so hopefully we get all the essentials we need... hopefully i dont go into labor during or before the shower... that would be interesting.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

If your baby is due around the "big " holidays Christmas, Easter, New Years, or Thanksgiving (like me) try to plan on a neutral month like the month before except Christmas If your baby is due around Christmas try for middle or ending October. That way people will be able to get gifts and not worry about tapping into Christmas money.

MommyNani2Bee |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am in the planning stages now at 18 weeks. One thing you have to consider is where you are registering. Some of the stores return policies are not the best (30-90 days). This can make returning duplicate items difficult and let's face it, you won't have time to return items after the baby is born.

pzak7 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I don't plan on having a baby shower (and have declined any offers to organise one) since I think it is the parent's responsibility to buy items for THEIR child - especially in these hard economic times. I do plan on having a "meet and greet after the baby is born. Seems pointless and selfish to me to have a party to "get stuff" and they don't even get to meet the baby. If well wishes want to help they can help after the baby is born. Stubborn One.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I have my shower planned when I will be 30 weeks (Sep 25). Many of my friends chief complaint was they waited so late that they were sleepy, tired, hot and miserable, and didn't feel they got to fully enjoy all the wonderful hard work their friends, co-workers etc put into the shower. I'm not due until Dec 3, but I live in Florida and it stays blazing hot most of the time. So I want to be energized and comfortable for my shower!!

chay2003 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having my shower at 30 weeks. This will give me enough time to wash the items I get, set up the nursery with the new items, and shop for what's missing. Also, I don't want to be uncomfortable at my shower and I'm already carrying bigger than most women.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Mine will be at 24 weeks. But that is because I wanted to have it before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season (which everyone knows is from Thanksgiving til chrsitmas). I am not due til February 22nd, but am having twins so I anticipate that I will deliver in January or early February. It was easier to have it in November than risk being too close to the birth in January.

roilynwm |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am pregnant with identical twin boys, so am having my shower at 26 weeks. I figure this would be early enough that I would still feel good, but late enough that we know what they are and will look pregnant. Plus I wanted to get it in before the holidays since I'm due in February. With twins there's no telling when they will make their appearance so I figured the earlier the better. Hopefully after the shower I will still feel up to going out shopping to buy the rest of the stuff the boys will need.

Hello :) I am having my shower @ 22 weeks. It may be a little early but its before the holidays and works out for those who have to travel. I think 22-25 weeks is a perfect time because you still have energy and it gives you time to go through and set up everything :) Hope you have an amazing shower and congratulations!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My due date with my daughter was April 15th of 2008. My baby shower was scheduled for March 29th and I ended up getting pre-e and Hellp syndrome the day before my baby shower. My baby shower was held 2-3 weeks after she was born. Now I am pregnant with baby#2, a boy due in January and my baby shower has been planned 2 months in advance. My advice is to have your hostess start planning it as soon as possible, because no one ever knows exactly what can happen when you get too far along.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My due date is Feb 12 and my shower is planned for Jan. 16 that would put me at approx 36wks the day of. Due to the holidays and the out of town host, my sister who works in management, i had to wait tli Jan. I have two children already, my daughter came on her due date and my son came five days before. I'm praying that one of these situation happens with this pregnancy. I've started buying decor just in case i have to move it up... for some reason i think lil missy is going to come earlier.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

well with my first pregnancy i threw myself a shower (or a social gathering as i called it at olive garden with baby pooh decorations from party city) because i dont think showers are about gifts and i didnt want the games taste baby food or anything. i was 30 weeks it was a good time i could walk more than 10 steps without being out of breath lol. i printed out the checklist from kmart highlighted the things i wanted to get and bought a few things every week from about my 4th month so i had everything i needed. the gifts at the shower were whatever remained on my registry and werent urgent things needed the first month. this time around i dont have a job but i still go out a buy a few things when i get some money so i dont know if i will have a shower this time around.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My shower was 2 weeks before my due date - and I went into labor that night! The gifts were still in the car! Luckily I already had the carseat ready, and with all of my family visiting, they got everything washed and set up for me by the time I got home. It actually worked in perfectly with my already chaotic life!!! I was really glad, though, that I had so much family around for my baby's birth.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We always have baby showers about a month or so after the baby is born. I dont know anyone who has had a shower before the baby is here. What better way to get everyone together to meet the new little bundle of joy than a baby shower? If you have it before you have to get everyone together before the baby gets here, and then try to make time for them all to come visit again. Another benefit is that you know for sure if it is a boy or girl.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having trouble figuring this out specially after reading everyone's responses. My friend Carrie is pregnant and her baby girl is due the day before my baby boy. With both of us being so close in time I don't want our showers to be too close to each other. Not only is this an issue for me, but we have lots of family birthdays in March and April that I need to schedule around as well. What are people's thoughts??

kaylab0830 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am in a similar predicament. My daughter's birthday, kindergarten graduation, and my sister's surgery are all within the same time period. My friends are choosing to do it before all the chaos ensues. With my husband being deployed during this birth my friends have already offered to have the clothes washed and to come, organize, set up and put everything away. With my first child I had my baby shower at 32 weeks but had been enduring early labor, so do it before 30 weeks!

I'm having my first shower at 30 weeks my next one at 32 weeks and my work one at 34 weeks.. I wanted them rather early because I want to be able to enjoy myself and have time to get stuff that we didn't get at the showers.

ngoff143 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I think it's there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a shower with each subsequent pregnancy. A baby shower is a chance to celebrate the new life coming into the world, not just a chance to score some free baby stuff. Having said that, I don't see a problem in accepting gifts if it's not your first child. My DH and I have one son who will be 7 when our twins are born. We've been trying for 6 years and our close family and friends have seen our struggles to concieve and some of the heartbreak that came with it so why wouldn't I want the chance to celebrate our blessing with them. Also, not that I expect anyone to buy all th ethings we need, we're not opposed to the help and we wouldn't turn it down. We're a military family and in order to make the weight allowance for all o fthe moves we've had the baby stuff from our first child had to go because it was something we weren't using and had no idea we would need it again. Now we're pregnant with twins and we're having a boy and a girl. We have very few "boy" things, no "girl" things, and almost no baby furniture, bottles, etc. It's a huge undertaking and somewhat unexpected since through all the years of fertility drugs we had almost given up hope. I see nothing wrong in allowing those who want to buy baby gifts for you or have a shower for you, no matter what child number this is, in letting them do so. Those who disagree, how unfortunate that you stop celebrating the new life you've brought in the world.

Elizabeth070503 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We are having our showers after the babies are born. Our Twin Boys will be delivered early via C-Section and will be in the hospital for 4-6 weeks. My husband is due to deploy right after they are born. We would love to have 1 shower, but we can't due to the large amount of people. So there are 2 work showers- 1 for him, 1 for me...2 large family showers-1 east coast, 1 west coast....1 friends co-ed shower. I don't think we need this many, but our friends and family are insisting. We have already bought all of our stuff. We have informed on the invitations that they are book parties. We are hoping to build a child's library in the office for the boys. I think have as many parties as you want and celebrate all the babies. There isn't a limit to the baby showers you can have. I have always been told you should only get a shower when the sex of the baby is different than your first, you have multiples or the age is more than 2-3 yrs.difference between children. Times are changing I say do what you want.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I iagree there's no breech of etiquette in "showering" subsequent babies. I have a teenage daughter from a prior relationship. This is my husband's first child. Naturally, we would love to have a baby shower, however, my mom is now deceased, and his abandoned him as an infant. His grandma who raised him lives 3,000 miles away and is too sick to travel. Our only option is to have a meet and greet at the end of September, a month after our baby is due.

There have only been a few answers about this (and for whoever they're from, thank you!) but how is when you have your shower up to you?? Do people throw themselves a shower nowadays?? Isn't that wrong? I can't imagine telling people I'm having a shower for myself, here's when it is! Hope you get me good stuff! See ya there! What?

J9Boyer |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Well, I'll be 33.5 weeks when my mom is throwing mine :) I think that's perfect, it's not early and it's early enough so that the small things that we do get at the shower, we can either exchange for something we'd put to use or get more of something we don't have. I'm just happy my mom has offered to throw me one. It'll be my first in14 years...this is our 4th baby and last....I'm not expecting a lot. I never have, so I'm just happy for my mom to have thought of it :)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Since each pregnancy is different, I was advised to think of an "ideal" shower date to be prepared if someone asks, taking into account how your pregnancy is going and how comfortable/uncomfortable you are! I am currently 18 weeks and my mom and SIL just told me they would love to throw me a baby shower and asked when I wanted it to be...and, of course, I was so touched and thrilled! After reading all the great responses on this site, I have decided to have it around 28-30 weeks to allow a lot of extra time to get things set up and shop for any missing items we need.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My good friends from church are throwing me a shower where we live for friends and church family. I'll be around 26-28 weeks, depending on the date they choose. MIL is throwing a family shower for her side, and my mom is throwing a family shower for my side. I do think it's wrong to throw yourself a "shower," though I don't think there's anything wrong with hosting your own "meet and greet" after the baby has arrived for people to welcome him/her into the world. I wouldn't expect presents at something like that, though.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

stbug |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I threw myself a baby shower for my first shower because no one would throw one for me and that being my first pregnancy I didn't want to miss any of the little things. I had fun at my shower but felt kinda dumb for throwing it for myself. My daughter is now 3 and I don't have much of the little things for the new baby especially if it is a boy, I probably won't have a shower this time around because of the same reasons as before but if I did I would do it around 25-30 weeks that way you have plenty of time to get what you still need for baby and then time to rest before you have to deliver. Remember this is a happy time and the best thing is to not be stressed if you have it earlier no problem now you have more time before baby comes along to make sure its just right. I believe there is no wrong or right time. And to answer stbug my sister had 3 babyshowers, not just because she needed things but to celebrate being pregnant and having another baby.!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having 2 because I was raised in AZ but am now living in UT. So I'm doing one at each locale. Also, my parents and in-laws WANT to buy us the big stuff, so I don't see it as a burden on them to reference one of the earlier comments. Plus then you don't buy a bunch of stuff and have people buy you the same things. And I'm finding out what I'm having, so no need to wait till after baby is born. It's VERY obvious it's a boy. ;)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'll be 27 weeks for mine. That's just what worked out best for me and my family since I;ll be flying back home, and my brother, who's in the navy, will be home that time as well. I think It will be great because I don't want to be so huge I'm uncomfortable the whole day like I see some mother's at their showers. Plus I don't want to worry about what if I go into labor earlier than my baby shower. It's going to be perfect!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Usually I plan mine about a month before my due date but this time we had to get it together about a month and a half in advance due to my daughter's 5th birthday is two weeks away from my due date and we have to move RIGHT after the birthday. If you have any other events you know will be coming soon that will alter the date, i would suggest change it accordingly. Watch out for holidays!!! Also its okay to get with family members about your date. Family is always important and helpful and they would not want you to plan your day on a day they will not be available.

I'm having mine at 24 weeks exactly Jul 31st. It worked best for my sister cousin and best friends throwing it PLUS it will allow my 2 very pregnant friends who are due in September to come and enjoy. August is just too crazy and my sister is pregnant with her first as well so I am throwing hers in October. I'm excited because it'll give me time to know what what people are mostly getting for me and what my husband and I will still need.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am 18 weeks pregnant Wednesday, not married, no friends that are girls, I'm 21 and a student and I am at a complete loss about a baby shower. I've had family members pledge gifts they would like to buy but I don't think they're thrilled about throwing a baby shower because they aren't exactly in a celebratory state over this pregnancy. Should I set up one? Just because this is an unplanned pregnancy doesn't mean I don't want to enjoy every aspect of it... :[ I just don't know what to do.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I think im gonna have a baby shower after i find out the sex of the baby so i know i have everything ready and together and don't have to rush befor the baby gets here .. IS THAT OKAY TO HAVE IT AROUND 20-25 WEEKS?

sowards2011 |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Hey sniper... Maybe have a diaper shower with everyone invited and that way you can enjoy the party but not interfere with the pledged gifts and those that are not able to attend... Hey great info ... Everyone... I am on bed rest till delivery and the thought of staying on the couch feeling ugly as I cannot go to hair or nail salon...nor can I move around much for a shower was pretty horrifying to me... I am definitely going to discuss a meet and greet after baby and recovery instead... With my family... And see about immediate family pitching in to prepare basics in nursery and get definitely needed items.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having two showers, the first is for family & friends, the second is being given by my work. My showers are planned at week 28 and 30. I will still have plenty of time to go buy the items that I need.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Mine will be at 27 1/2 weeks. Early enough to still have energy, and so DH and I can plan our baby spending beyond the shower. Also, for us if we wait much longer we will have people unable to make it due to weather affecting their travel plans (my 70+ year old grandma likes to drive up from Vegas...and the weather gets questionable on the highways around here in about the first week of November!), and then we are contending with holidays.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having mine at 32 weeks and it seems a bit late since I have been feeling a little off. Hopefully I still have time to get whatever else I need. So I say it is better to plan it a bit earlier.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having 3 baby showers (big family). one at 28 (my dad's side of the family), 33 (MIL's family), and after the baby is born (mom's family and she wants to show off her first grandbaby to the family). the dates seem spread out so if there are bigger items people want to get, we can let the others know ahead of time. I am due January 4th and the weather can get nasty where i live, the showers are early enough to hopefully avoid snowy and icy roads.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Do people actually host their own showers? I was always taught they were given by friends, not even family members?

sffoster |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Earlier is always better, gives you time to set up and take stuff back. And, if you are as slow as I am with returning store items, then have your shower earlier.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My mom and sister-in-law are planning the baby shower for when I'm 37 weeks. I begged my mom to make it at least a week earlier but she refused because she thinks her sister will make it a belated birthday party for herself and even so, the date they planned for my shower is her brother's birthday anyway. It's extremely stressful because we can't count on getting anything BESIDES clothes from the baby shower, so just about everything we have washed and ready is used stuff (carseat, crib, clothes) from friends or craigslist or garage sales.... NOT the way I wanted it for my first kid!!! Also, I have no say on ANYTHING, so my baby shower is adults only with a winnie the pooh theme that's driving me crazy because EVERYTHING HAS TO DO WITH WINNIE THE POOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE WINNIE THE POOH!!!!!!!!!!!! It's extremely gender neutral and we KNOW we're having a boy, and Winnie the Pooh is not at all masculine. On top of that, it's a costume party, and they're expecting me to dress as a pumpkin. AT 37 WEEKS. As if I need a costume to make me bigger. I'm already 34 weeks, taking naps during the day, and the doctor says I'll probably have the baby early so that's just great. Save yourself the stress and plan the real baby shower yourself for around 30 weeks at the latest. Cuz now I'm HUGE and uncomfortable in all my clothes, getting seriously irritated with everybody (ESPECIALLY Baby Depot's customer service!!!), having no idea what other stuff I'm gonna have to put together and what instruction manuals I have to read next and what I'm going to be returning to the store and what I'll be needing to buy with that 10% registry completion coupon, and I still have 3 weeks til my baby shower....

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We are having ours a bit early. I'm not due until January 16th, but my family is concerned about me making the 6 hour drive home to see them after the weather gets bad. When you add the Holiday's into the mix, the Mid-October (around 28 weeks) date my mom & aunts have chosen seems to be just about perfect. I am also liking the thought of still having enough energy to really enjoy the day and fully prepare the nursery before the baby gets here! Can't wait to meet the little boy!!

I'm Due in January and am having mine the end of Oct. so 28 weeks. For the simple fact that all the major holidays are right around the corner and I don't want to be an inconvience for anyone. Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had my shower with my first child at 7 months because of the timing for everyone else, it was kind of nice though because I had plenty of time to see what I would still need and set everything up... plus I ended up delivering at 36 weeks. I am glad I didn't wait until 35 weeks or more!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Everyone is asking me when I'm having my shower. I didn't think I was to plan my own shower. My MIL won't return my mom's e-mails and my mom lives a few hours away from everyone who would be attending. Should I offer up my house but have my mom as a host? I don't know about the etiquette of showers, my wedding shower was a surprise. I don't think I want a surprise baby shower I might show up in sloppy sweats and a baseball hat;)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am almost 34 weeks pregnant and am measuring a month ahead in size--which is perfectly normal for my family considering we are tall. I have most of the stuff I need, however, my shower is not planned until I am 38 weeks along and my doctor thinks I will most likely deliver early. I was born myself at 38 weeks! I had no control over this as this is the only time everyone could make it--but the joke will be on them if I go early.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im having two showers. One is being thrown by my MIL and the other by the baby's Godmother which is my husbands cousin from his dads side (love her). Both his families are big and his parents are divorced so he has alot extended family in there. My parents are newly divorced (2 months very ugly divorce) and my moms family is all in Korea where shes from. So my MIL is having all my dads family and my mom and her friends (dads fam and mom are still very cool they love her) come to her shower and the godmother is having my friends and co-workers go to hers. Theyre both suprises but the ladies were suggested to do a large joint shower but both (im assuming because of excitement and personalities) were unable to do work that out. I figured out that one is this Sunday and I will be 32 weeks the other I suspect is in about 4 weeks so 36 weeks. This is my first so Ill let you know if we thought they were too late or just the right amount of timing!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having my shower at 31 weeks. I'm actually surprised about some people feelings about coming to a #2 or #3rd baby shower and criticizing parents. If you don't want to get a gift, then don't. Stop nagging about what you think people intentions are about having 1, 2, or 3 showers. I'm throwing my own shower, it's a baby shower not high school, leave the drama at home or stay home with it, or get over yourself and be happy for your friends.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm type one diabetic so the high risk part of my pregnancy makes me want to have mine earlier than most but I'm also married in the military and thus am on a naval base with no one I know except for a few sailors. We don't live on base so I can't convene with other pregnant military wives and I'm nearly 2,500 miles away from my family. I didn't really think about a shower until now but all the hormones have me super sad and stressed. Is there even a point to have one?

I am having two, because I have huge familes and a group of them live in one city (about 4 hours away) and the other group lives around me. So it is just easier. First one will be at around 32 weeks and the second (closer to my home) is at around 36 weeks.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

You should have your baby shower in your 3rd trimester. Last year when my sister had her baby shower I bought on of those shower panels that you find at http://www.decorplanet.com/Shower_Panels_s/22.htm and indeed my idea was brilliant and she loved it. The 3rd trimester is the optimal time because you may have your baby born premature and it's just in case

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Having mine after the baby is born. Our family waits a month or two after the baby is born for a few reasons - the gender is known, the bigger items will have already been purchased so it's more for friends and extended family members to meet the baby, and god forbid something happens to the baby before hand but it won't be awkward should something happen. A friend of the family had her shower at 29 weeks and went to the Dr. the day before she went into labor at 39 weeks and everything was fine but then unfortunately baby was still born. She said the hardest part was returning the gifts and explaining what happened as she was forced to relive it.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My mother and sister-in-law are throwing one for us when I'm 18 weeks. SUPER early, because we're moving cross-country two weeks after that. For our situation it's kind of when we have to have it because I don't want to deal with flying back when I'm further along. But I think early is good, in general. This will give us plenty of time to budget and buy what we need that we don't get at our shower.

I'm not picking when I'm having mine since, obviously, I'm not hosting it. Since it's the holiday season my hosts want to wait until early January when I'll be at least, eep! 37 weeks. I'm a little nervous about it, but still EXTREMELY grateful.

Bride-hilda |

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Personally, I think it'll be great to have it before 28 weeks because my husband and I still have time to purchase anything that was missed. There's also a chance the baby might come early as well. For me, I feel you should only have 1 shower. That's the shower that your friends and family will help you with essentials and items you need for your baby. Any subsequent babies you have, they shouldn't have to buy things for you again. If they want to, they will without having the mandatory baby shower title. I have a friend who has had 4 showers now. I think it's in bad taste because you're obviously just trying to get gifts and I've spent huge chunk of money already on all 4. It's just awkward. However, I have another friend and I think what she decided on was great. She had a girl the first time and she had a baby shower. When she was having a boy for the second pregnancy, she decided to have a get together and specified, no gifts. I thought that was perfect because they're not pressuring people to buy things again. And in the end, I ended up buying a lot of items for the second child anyway after he was born.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I didn't want a shower at all (this is my 2nd baby, almost 8 years apart and unexpected), but a friend is insisting on throwing one for me. It will be 20 days before my due date, so I'll be about 37 weeks. I'm dreading it, to be honest. I know I was super tired that late into my first pregnancy, but she's very excited, so i'm going along with it.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Personally I do not agree with waiting until the child is born. Yes, it would be great for everyone to see the baby and all, but what about all the germs? And if you are breast feeding and you are not comfortable with doing so in front of a ton of family and friends, but you don't want to seem rude when you excuse yourself. I say in the second trimester. that gives you time to wash, sort and get everything together. You won't feel as hurried or rushed. Good luck Mamas!!!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am due Feb. 18th with my first baby boy. My first shower with all the ladies friends will be at 25 weeks. Co-workers will throw one in January sometime. Many people think it's too early, but I didn't want to do it after the new year - wanted to be comfortable and ready. It was very hard scheduling around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. My husband also works off shore and is home every other 3 wks. He wanted to be home and attend the shower. We want to start buying now to budget going into the first of the new year when no one including us have money to spend after the holidays.I don't expect family and friends to buy high ticket items as well. Being our first - we have nothing...if someone buys me one bid or a package of diapers I will be a happy and thankful girl. I am an organized person and want to decorate and have everything set in January and relax the last weeks before the baby arrives. My family is planning a shower next year when the child is 6 months old to meet and greet the baby and get all the older infant things that aren't necessary when the baby arrives. So excited to meet our little baby BOY!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My husband and I are planning a reveal party for the end of March, because I am due May 5th, but that will not be a shower. I told my mom and sis that I am not really crazy about the baby shower idea, but I don't want anyone to feel gipped, especially since it's my mom's first grandchild, and my sister's first niece or nephew. I know my mom wants to do something for me, so hopefully it will be small, but I am also concerned about our friends/family feeling pressured around the holiday season.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm due at the end of May, and I'm 16 weeks now, but I was planning to have mine in February or March. Since I live more than 3,000 miles from my entire family aside from my husband, it's going to have to be a less than personal thing where friends and family can send something if they want to. So I guess when I say shower, I mean I will be releasing my registry to them in February or March, when I'm between 25-30 weeks.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having my first shower at 24 weeks, second shower at 25 weeks, and third shower around 30weeks.I appreciate having all of my showers earlier on for planning and organizing purposes mostly. My family also has a history of premie babies, so I don't want to wait until the last weeks. Also, I've heard most mom's get uncomfortable in the last couple of weeks and I want to enjoy my showers. My partner's grandmother offered to host one for us. She lives out of the country so that shower will be for her friends and my partner's family to attend. My mom and sister are hosting my second shower with their family and friends. My partner's best friend wants to host a co-ed party for our friends and co-workers to attend. Have as many showers as people offer to host! there aren't "too many or too few." Do what works out in your situation. Why "should" there be a limit. If people offer to host it's because they want to, not because they feel obligated. In my case, we have a very large and close-knit support system of family and friends. I don't understand why some moms on here are bothered by people having showers. People will give the gifts that they want--showers are initiated by others because they appreciate the mom and want to do something nice for her. Wishing you all a wonderful shower(s)!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

30-35 weeks seems really far into things to be dealing with a baby shower. If I get much say in mine, we'll be planning them for a few weeks after we find out the sex. (I don't want to get all gender neutral clothing) Someone had asked why people are having more than 1 - in my case, it's because my family is 4 hours away from where my husband and I live. I'll have a shower up home with my family, and then a second one where we live for his family and for our local friends. I think a lot of people end up getting thrown separate showers, one with family and one with friends or with co-workers. It's easier on family to just invite family and host family, and not have to worry about inviting a lot of people they don't know, esp if the shower is happening at someone's home.
