Will smoking pot affect our chances of getting pregnant?

Re: Will smoking pot affect our chances of getting pregnant?

The Bump Expert

While pot hasn't been shown to hurt baby before (or even soon after) getting pregnant, it's definitely a good idea to quit as soon as you decide to conceive. Smoking pot while pregnant can affect the function of the placenta and may result in low birth weight and fetal distress during labor. Moreover, newborn babies of pot-smoking moms may go into withdrawal upon delivery (suffering side effects like the jitters and a slow response to stimuli, to name a few). If you ask us, it's better to kick the habit on your own, well before you add a baby into the mix.

But enough about you. Wondering how your partner's pot smoking could affect your conception chances? A study from the University at Buffalo has linked pot smoking to decreased sperm count and, shall we say, confusion among the sperm he's got. The study followed men who smoked 14 times a week for an average of 5.1 years and found that those who smoked were significantly more likely to have reduced sperm count than men who didn't. The study also found that smokers' sperm were swimming too fast too soon -- their timing was off to successfully fertilize the egg. Because it takes a while for THC (the chemical in pot) to clear out of your body, it's hard to tell if men who've stopped smoking can get their boys back to a nonsmoker's state. But, regardless, these kinds of stats should make any dude think twice before picking up his next joint.

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

Why is she stupid for asking this question? What's wrong with wanting to know the facts?

I agree with aliciaconley. What if people want to know the facts on marijuana and pregnancy? Geesh

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

This is pathetic that anyone feels the need to know this. If you are smoking pot you obviously are not mature enough to be a parent in the first place. I hope there is no chance of pregnancy for you because I will just be paying for your child after the state takes it from you and puts it in a foster home. You're an idiot

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

Anyone who wishes someone cant get pregnate without even knowing them is pathetic and needs to grow up before they judge anyone. maybe their own parenting skills should be looked at.

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

To all that have respond. I was a pot smoker before i found out i was pregnant and once i found out i was pregnant I quit cold turkey drinking and smoking. And no smoking pot does not make you less young minded. Trust i graduated from school at 17 had my firt apartment at 17 (that's because i was turning 18 in a mth) . I also Graduated college and im currently am making 35000 a yr. I'm also in school as we speak because i would love to learn everything that I can. With all that said I'm only 22!!! (there is no such thing as a dumb question.)

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

It won't affect your chances of conceiving but will increase the risk of birth defects, even if you are not pregnant. Pot can damage sperm and ova.

I think all those who judged about this question should keep their judgements to themselves. This website is of course to speak your opinions, but judging someone is not very mature. The question she asked is a good one maybe not to some of us that don't agree to smoking pot, but if she was brave enough to ask on this board than it means she has a good head on her shoulders.

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

It is a valid question...Why so harsh? You who have been ignorant and rude to this girl, I believe you are the un-educated ones...

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

Smoking pot does not decrease your chances of getting pregnant. And how dare anyone say they wish someone to not concieve. Like some of you said, you don't know the full story, so think before you judge. Especially bc a lot of ppl these days smoke pot for medical reasons.

Q&A: Will smoking pot affect our chances of conception?

Wow! There are are some narrow minded people. I know plenty of highly educated people, who are terrific parents, that smoke pot. Being a responsible smoker doesn't make someone a bad parent... and to hope someone can't conceive... how ignorant. BUT- if pot is so "errible, why do many states perscribe it for morning sickness? Must not be THAT bad!
