Q&A: Safe to fly during pregnancy?

Can I fly when I’m five months pregnant?

Re: Can I fly when I’m five months pregnant?

The Bump Expert

If you’re having a healthy pregnancy, absolutely! And you should -- because once baby comes, it’ll be difficult just to make it to the grocery store, at least for a while. Just make sure to get up and walk around during your flight to avoid deep vein thrombosis (DVT) which is the formation of a blood clot deep in the vein. Pregnancy increases the risk of DVT due to your body's natural tendency to prevent excessive bleeding during childbirth. You should also drink plenty of water to combat dehydration. Check with your doctor, but if you’re having a normal pregnancy, most OBs say you can travel until 32-36 weeks. After this point, you run the risk of going into labor while in the air.

re: Q: Flying while pregnant?

I am 8 weeks now and flying in April to Arizona. My doctor is not worried at all and it is okay unless your doctor says otherwise.

re: Q: Flying while pregnant?

I am flying in one month so I will be 10 weeks pregnant? Is it really a risk factor for a miscarriage? The flight is only an hour and a half... do you think it will be okay??? Obviously, I will put the health and safety of this baby over flying to a friends baby shower :)

re: Q: Flying while pregnant?

I am 14 weeks and have flown since I became pregnant (even before I knew) every week. Just drink tons of water, and don't carry luggage that is too heavy or will strain you by lifting over your head into the bin.

re: Q: Flying while pregnant?

i have 3 trips planned between weeks 25 and 32. my dr. said they were fine and she didn't recommend flying 34 weeks + but anything before that was fine. they will probably see me before i leave on the last trip since its like 2 weeks to make sure that all is well before i head out of town.

re: Q: Flying while pregnant?

I'm flying to Africa in June (I'll be 12+ weeks) and my OB is only worried about the malaria meds that I'll need to take. She says flying should be fine but I HAVE to get up every 3-4 hours and walk around.

re: Q: Flying while pregnant?

I am slightly over seven weeks and will be 8 weeks on Monday the 15th which is the day I am flying. My doctor told me that flying is perfectly fine and causes no harm to the baby. :)

Q&A: Safe to fly during pregnancy?

I am 35 weeks and my last fight was at 33 weeks. as long as your doctor is ok with it and you feel ok, then you should be good to go. I would get up and walk around and yes Water is very good.

Q&A: Safe to fly during pregnancy?

Although, some airlines will not let you on their flights after a certain week, so check up on that before planning a get-away!

Q&A: Safe to fly during pregnancy?

We are moving this summer and I will be 33 weeks flying from Alaska to Las Vegas. Most recommend that you don't fly past 34-36 weeks if your healthy....so plan your trips mamas!

Q&A: Safe to fly during pregnancy?

I just flew last week at 35 weeks. While it's very possible to fly at this point, and I've had a very healthy pregnancy, just be forewarned that it can be very uncomfortable. The baby was in my ribs for every leg of the flights, and it was much harder to breathe. Make sure and get up to use the bathroom at least once! And definitely get an aisle seat.
