Q&A: If I delivered prematurely with my first baby, will I do the same with future babies?

If I went into labor prematurely with my first baby, am I more likely to deliver early again?

While it's true that every pregnancy is different, in the case of preterm labor, history (unfortunately) does have a way of repeating itself. Studies have in fact proven that you're more like to deliver early if you’ve experienced preterm labor before, but of course, it's important to remember that this isn’t always the case. For example, if you've eliminated certain risk factors such as smoking or drug use, or if you had multiples with your first pregnancy, and now have a singleton pregnancy, you may be able to carry your baby to full term without a hitch!

Q&A: If I delivered prematurely with my first baby, will I do the same with future babies?

i am wondering the same thing. i had my daughter at 36 weeks and she was 5 lbs and 1 oz, when she was born. i had gotten checked and had my group b strep test done too, they said i wasnt anywhere near being close to going into labor so i got the permission to go to arkansas which the part i went to is a 2 hour drive. we stopped at a gas stationa nd my water broke. i am currently pregnant with our second and i have started getting similar symptoms like i did with my first. i had horrible back pain and pressure and pain down low for weeks till i had her. i am 30 weeks and was wondering if there is a chance that i could go into early labor again or if it was just the car ride there that put me into labor

Q&A: If I delivered prematurely with my first baby, will I do the same with future babies?

I have been wondering about this myself. My first son (7 years ago) was born at 37 weeks. Although the Dr. claims he wasn't "technically" born permature, he was born with premature lungs, had a horrible case of pneumonia, and spent 22 days in the NICU. I'm pregnant with our second son and I'm so worried that I will go into early labor again. Of course I'm trying to stay calm but it's not that easy to do.

Q&A: If I delivered prematurely with my first baby, will I do the same with future babies?

I had my first child at 33.5 weeks (a healthy boy) and am currently pregnant with my second. I had asked my OB what the chances of having another early baby was and his answer was that the risk is still there but the fact that my water broke before I started contractions the risk is much much lower; had it been the other way around he said the chance would have been almost 100% of having an early baby again.

Q&A: If I delivered prematurely with my first baby, will I do the same with future babies?

I had my first at 35 weeks. it was a very fast labor, by the time i got to the hospital i was 7cm dialated (that was a close one!). Now i am on bed rest and have been since the beginning of 7months. my dr explained that there are all kinds of risks in the medical world (like the risk of lung cancer if you smoke) and that the risk of having a second premature baby was one of the very top ones of the list. i am wondering tho, since i am on bed rest, how much does that lower my chances of going into preterm labor again?
