When will I start needing maternity clothes?

Re: When will I start needing maternity clothes?

The Bump Expert

Depends on the person! Here's how it happened for some Bumpies...

“At 13.5 weeks, I've just started wearing some maternity. Some of it is just way too big still and some of my regular clothes are too tight, so I'm in the awkward transition stage.” - JnJ04

“I probably started wearing maternity clothes at 16 weeks, but I can still fit into some regular clothes with my tummy sleeve.” - TheDudleys

“I've been in maternity pants since 6-7 weeks for comfort (this is my 4th so I got big pretty fast), shirts closer to 15 wks.” - MichelleWP

“I’ve been in maternity clothes since about 10 weeks.” - Pamela82

“I started wearing some maternity clothes at around 11 weeks.” - vande2006

“I bought my first round of maternity clothes quite early -- about nine weeks. It was just baby bloat at that point, but it never really went away, and at 18 weeks I have a nice firm baby belly!” - Mrs.Meyer

“I bought maternity at about 12 wks, just because I so desperately needed a new bra! And I ended up buying several other items, including a belly band. I have been interspersing some maternity items with my regular clothes, as I can still wear most of my normal clothes, some with the belly band and some still without. Luckily, regular non-maternity styles are fairly maternity friendly (empire waist tops and dresses, stretchy gauchos, etc), and it is easy to mix them into a maternity wardrobe. (I am 15 wks now.)” - SPBGBRIDE

“At almost 17 weeks I'm still in all of my regular clothes. I'm not sure when I'll start in maternity clothes yet, but absolutely every woman is different and among my friends I don't see any trend for who will show sooner. I expected to be obviously showing by now because I'm so short waisted, but I haven't gained any weight and I'm looking normal. (Well, normal with bbs that have nearly doubled in size...)” - staryeyes

“I was in maternity pants by 9 weeks” - boulder, cobride

“I started wearing maternity clothes at home on the weekends at about 16 weeks. I held off wearing them at work until closer to 18 weeks. I outgrew my shirts first because my boobs just could not fit into a regular shirt! I wore over-sized sweaters through February. I was down to one or two pairs of work pants I could wear by 18-19 weeks, and had to use a Bella Band so I could wear them unzipped. Even now at 23 weeks, I'm still too small for some of my pants. The transition period seems to be lasting a long time.” - sistrkate

“I started wearing maternity at around 12 weeks, and while a couple of my more forgiving elastic waist pre-pg skirts are still wearable, I'm mostly out of my regular clothes.” - batsteph

”I started wearing maternity pants at 14 weeks or so. I couldn't take wearing my pants unbuttoned anymore. So I went to Old Navy and bought a bunch of yoga pants. I knew they fit then and would stretch as well so I would be able to continue to wear them. I am 18 weeks now and they still fit comfortably and I still have much more room to grow. - cnickler

“I had to buy new bras at 8 weeks as that was the first thing to grow. I stopped fitting into my jeans at 3 months.” - taurusbride

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

11 weeks - more for comfort than anything else. Plus, using a ponytail holder on my regular jeans just made me feel frumpy.

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I'm at 19 weeks, and haven't yet. However, I can only fit into some of my looser clothing. Two days ago I went to the maternity stores but everything I tried on looked ridiculously big. A friend told me that I should raid my husband’s closet; she hasn't met him. He is 6' 7" and 240lbs. His clothes make the maternity dresses look tailored! Right now I'm digging through my wardrobe looking for larger sizes and elastic waists.

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

i'm 20 weeks and am just now braving the stores for real maternity clothes. i think it really matters on how you feel in the clothes you have and how fast your belly is growing. i teach preschool, so i own a lot of cotton clothes that stretch really well. i found as i was shopping for maternity clothes, that if you are able and willing, you can buy clothes as you grow or simply look for materials that will breathe and grow with you. happy shopping!

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I'm 21 weeks and still not in maternity clothes entirely! I just bought a couple of pants a size or 2 up from what I normally wear. Those are starting to get snug now, but I'm holding out - the bella bands are a great way to hold off on the maternity bottoms. I have bought a couple maternity pieces, but I've not entirely converted yet! :)

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I started wearing some maternity clothes around 12 weeks. I love clothes and started to feel very uncomfortable in my normal clothes. I still have about 4 pairs of my pre-pregnancy pants that fit, but thats it. I am 14 and 3 days. I am so much more comfortable now!

spitzsings |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I had to buy pants at almost 7 weeks... I got shirts too while I was there but some of them are still a little big in the belly area. I think they are really comfortable! I am now 10 weeks!

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

Bought my first maternity pants at 6wks, 4th child and i feel i'm going to show faster than before!

ivelinirose |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I am about 28-29 weeks and can still fit into 2 pairs of my regular jeans. I started wearing maternity shirts at about 23 weeks because I am not one of those women to "bare her belly" and maternity tops do not ride up.

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I started to wear maternity pants at 10 weeks. My regular pants were just too tight after I ate. I am much more comfortable but miss the stylish jeasn.

mhuber23 |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

First pregnancy I was out of my normal pants at about 8 weeks; this time I made the switch at about 4 weeks - even though I had been losing weight, the waists were too snug and I had a bump already. Bought a couple inconspicuous maternity shirts just to have something long enough to cover the hideous elastic waists! I miss my regular clothes, but they make some decent maternity stuff.

happysparkle |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I was in maternity pants by 9 weeks! Now I'm 12 weeks & can't wear any of my old clothes except a few baggy shirts I had. I couldn't believe how fast I grew.

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

Week 18 and 19 were huge transition weeks for me... going from no maternity to full maternity. It's crazy how fast it happens!

orouram |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I am 10 weeks and woke yesterday morning to discover I can't button my pants. At first I was a little freaked out (it is my first pregnancy), thinking I was gaining weight too fast, but it seems my waist is just really much wider now. I was always small, so I guess I can just tell. I'm going maternity shopping today for some pants only--I feel weird holding my pants with an elastic because they pouf out.

veruca_salt0722 |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I think by week 10 I was wearing maternity pants because most of my form fitting clothes were just too uncomfortable. I still fit into some of my regular clothes now at 14 weeks, but the minute anything feels too tight, it gets put aside. Life is too short to be uncomfortable with what you are wearing!! :)

Laura&Adam |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I am at 11 weeks now and have to go maternity shopping this weekend or I will really have NOTHING that fits anymore. It's kinda sad, i've been in denial.....haha

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

According to my Dr. I'm at 9 weeks and according to the u/s tech I'm measuring 8 weeks BUT either way....I'm heading out to kohls today to pick up a pair of jeans, probably maternity. I only have 1 pair of jeans left that fit me. I have a few pairs of work pants w/ more forgiving waist bands. As far as shirts go....I like baby doll tops and sweaters so I should be fine in my tops for a while. This is my 3rd pregnancy this year though, I had an ectopic and a m/c so I've had a few people tell me my uterous may stretch faster. I dont know how much truth is behind that; all I know is I NEED a pair of jeans that fit. :-)

CrystalDaun |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

well, it's my first baby and I just bought my first pair of maternity pants yesterday at 12 1/2 weeks. Aah, so much more comfortable! I can still fit into a couple pairs of jeans with a ponytail holder, but it's uncomfortable. I think I'll be tempted to wear this pair of pants every day, it's so comfy! I'd better get some backups before I grow any more. ;-) I do also have some dress pants that fit pretty great-- they were too big before being pregnant.

rachelb823 |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

9 weeks, but I'm having twins. Now at 11 weeks I'm really showing.

weemodin |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I'm 18 weeks and still in my normal clothes. I don't like wearing my tighter shirts though because I feel kind of like I have a little gut and I'm not used to that so I try to keep my shirts a little bit baggy. And I love wearing my sweats when I get home from work- I change clothes right away into something much more comfortable.

ashleyrocca |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

i'm 16 wks and some of my pants still fit. I'm just at the awkward phase where it's not clear whether i'm just fat or pregnant. I'll probably go and buy a couple pants this week sometime b/c i know it's almost over for my regular pants

sarainicole |

re: Q: When in Maternity Clothes?

I'm only 6 weeks and had to buy bigger shorts for the summer. I had gained about 5 pounds before I found out but the baby bloat kills me half way through the day so I went for the fat people clothes! Ugh!

patchessi |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I'm 10 weeks now, but the past two weeks I have been a bigger fan of sweatpants than anything else. I doubt I'll need to get maternity pants for awhile since I am not really showing yet, but it's just not comfortable to have the jeans all tight and buttoned up. If I have to wear jeans, I usually unbutton them when I'm sitting down!

ginarosecapri |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I started around 12 weeks. I am still wearing some of my regular clothes with the belly band but now I am starting to wear my maternity clothes more often because its more comfy!

|

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I bought my first maternity clothes at 7 weeks but have only really worn my maternity Jeans. They are stretchy and are transition jeans. I have worn two of my maternity shirts already because they are nice and lose (I am also a bigger girl and need more room due to the bloat)

1ST-TIME-MOMMY |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

For my first pregancy, I didn't wear maternity clothes until about 19 weeks; I expect this one, my second, to be a lot earlier!

gretch1964 |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I've been using the bella band for now and I'm at 9 weeks. I suspect that i'll be in regular maternity pants (especially jeans) by week 12-14 given how i've changed just within the last 3 weeks. So far...no new bras are needed.

faitherickson |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I'm only almost 5 weeks but I'm already so uncomfortable in my work pants, which are a bit tight in the waist anyway. I haven't worn my jeans in like a week so I'm sure they're worse! Not showing at all yet but I'm so bloated, and the buttons dig into my tummy. I'm trying to decide if I should go for a pair of maternity work pants or a belly band to make the others work a bit longer.

JoyDancer |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I'm 25 weeks and haven't really bought any maternity clothes. I did got to a cheaper store about a month ago and bought 2 pairs of pants in a size 10 and those have been working for awhile, but I will need to get new pants soon. I think I will out grow the pants pretty soon. It's just annoying that the nice pants that fit really well, are ver expensive and I wouldn't be wearing them that long!

dmheckenkamp |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

first baby and i'm at 8 weeks -my jeans are already getting too tight so I bought a belly belt so that I can keep wearing them instead of buying new ones. had to buy maternity work pants cause wearing a belt was to uncomfortable. also am starting to need some bigger bras and no underwire as they're getting way to uncomfortable now!!

gale2208 |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I'm only 5 weeks, and I've already had to buy new bras. My old bras were just too uncomfortable. That's the only measurable difference I've seen.

I'm at 25 weeks and haven't bought any yet. I think in a few weeks I will have to.

JMRoberts |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I haven't started into maternity stuff yet, but I gave up on my jeans weeks ago (am at 13 wks) and stick to yoga pants or a pair of my hubs pants I co-opted. I have stopped wearing under things though, cause they drive me round the bend. I wear a tube top under my shirts and I'll have to find some comfy drawers soon or my husband will skin me for going commando!

Ink Myth |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I'm at 11 weeks and had to buy new bras almost immediately. I'm already up 3 cup sizes. Other than that, I've been able to get by in my hubby's shirts and my regular jeans with a belly band. I work from home though, so that makes it easier.

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

Im 9 weeks today and i dont quite just fit into maternity clothes, but i still have this pouch that makes it very uncomfortable to wear my regular jeans. This is my first pregnancy, so im pretty surprised to be showing so soon. This past weeks i have resorted to wearing yoga and sweat pants. Im guessing in a couple more weeks im going to have to head out to the maternity store. Also, i bought that bella band at target and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. i ended up returning them. For some reason i can stand anything snug around my waist.

Delacruz_diana85 |

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I am 14 weeks and totally the same, regular clothes and bra on top. My regular jeans are definitely starting to be too snug. I have purchased maternity pants (full panel - I hear they are the best and most comfortable) but I am hesitant to wear them...I know once I cross that threshold that's it for the next 5 1/2 months!! Maternity city. I think I will be in my regular tops for quite some time still. I haven't gained any weight yet (that's OK, I have some to spare :) but I can tell that my weight is definitely shifting to my tummy.

re: Q: When in maternity clothes?

I'm 11 weeks and I just purchased two belly bands because my jeans were a little uncomfortable. I've just put my tighter jeans aside for now and I'm holding off on the belly bands until I need them but it's good to know they're there when I do! I'm planning on wearing cotton skirts quite a bit the rest of the summer though so that should get me through the next few weeks, at least.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am almost 11 weeks, and I have been in maternity clothes for about 2 weeks, OMG they are comfy, BUT expensive... I looked every where, and i found at Kohls... the cheapest, i got 3 pants/capries and 5 shirts for 150$ ya i would have spent that at motherhood on 2 things. They are ALWAYS having sales with everything 50-60% off and everything. I REALLY recommend this store....if you dont have one near you go online you can return anything without a problem.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

im 7 1/2 weeks now with my first baby. ive actually lost a few pounds since i got pregnant but my jeans fit snuggly to begin with but at about 5 weeks it hurt to keep them buttoned while i was sitting down and now they are uncomfortable to wear at all so i got some stretchy goucho pants from kohls and they are much more comfortable unfortunately they are the only two pairs of pants i can wear so i have a pretty boring wardrobe. but its better than wearing pants that hurt and make me feel sick. i dont have a firm baby bump its mostly due to bloating (the disappearing belly) some days its bigger than others

ingram1124 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm at 10 weeks, and really need to get some pants. My shirts and bras are still fine (I'm actually still on my tightest bra clasp), but my pants are too small on my belly, but fall if put below the lil bump I'm getting.

jkshiffler |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Just got some maternity pants today & am in love with elastic! I'm just 7 weeks & don't have a bump yet, but things are just puffy. Got the kind that go below the belly so they fit now & I can hopefully grow into them. When I put them on, my dh said I looked happier than he'd seen me in 2 days...can't say I disagree. I CAN BREATHE!!!!

jmfbride |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am 26 weeks and have 2 pairs of jeans left i broke down and bought a pair of maternity pants and 2 shirts at 24 wks the jeans fit well but the shirts are just a little to big still.

AnndeeGirl |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm at 11 weeks and still in my regular clothing although I have to admit I am feeling the clothes get tighter. I'm still holding out and waiting to buy maternity clothing b/c it seems that they are a little over-kill at the moment. It's either "all or nothing" as far as I can see so far. So I guess I am battling with a little of discomfort and wearing shirts/blouses that help conceal the battle of the bulge. It had been recommended to me that using the pony tail holder would be a good way to transition by slipping one part through the button hole and the other around the button. Undoubtedly, it will work, however, it doesn't look very professional when working with clients in the work place. I guess I'll have to start thinking maternity in another week or two... maybe by week 14! :)

lsimenson6 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm around 13 weeks and have been getting by with my normal jeans and a bella band, although a few of my lower-rise skirts and shorts still fit. The big problem has been shirts, none of my tailored button-down shirts will button over my boobs! I bought a new bra around 8 weeks, it was a smidge too big at the time but now it fits perfectly. I'm just starting to show, but I've been bloated for weeks now.

Emily88 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I have been wearing maternity pants since 17 weeks, I can still wear most of my tops. I am almost 2o weeks now and now even my stretchy clothes are too tight.

dsartori |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am 14.5 weeks and able to wear tummy tubes/Bella bands with most of my regular bottoms. But over the weekend, at another pregnant friend's insistence, I broke down and bought a pair of cute maternity jeans and a denim skirt. I can't believe I held out this long; pregnant or not, they are SO comfortable! And I don't know what the concern is for us girls in getting into maternity clothes "too soon". Again - comfort! SO, I'm wearing my regular work pants w/ tubes for now, but my beloved new jeans and skirt at home and on weekends. Within the next few weeks (after my next paycheck), I'll be hitting Gap and Old Navy Maternity for some comfy work pants. (PS - My non-prego friends are jealous at my level of comfort. Ha ha...)

hwjones521 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I had to start wearing maternity pants at 7 weeks, my jeans were too uncomfortable to wear low. I gained 0 pounds but things had started to "pop!"

Mary Mellen |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I lost about 25 pounds in the months leading up to TTC (I kept reading about the medical benefits of being at a normal BMI before pregnancy), and so I just held on to all of my larger clothes. I'm 11 weeks now, and all of my "skinny" clothes are out, but the bigger sizes are still perfectly comfortable. That said, even though I've only gained 4 pounds back, my pooch is making certain styles of pants cut in a bit. Shirts are currently ok, though.

hdodds |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am 10 weeks right now and having to unbutton some of my pants. I have noticed I am thickening up a lot more around my waist and midsection as opposed to my lower stomache, does anyone know if this is normal?

littledeadgirl |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm 8wks 5days and went maternity shopping today!!! I have only 2 jeans that are fitting and have mostly summer clothes. I was already about 5-10lbs overweight and now I've gained about 5lbs so my regular clothes are just uncomfortable. If the pants are digging in on you, then the fitted shirt isn't going to look good either over that. And I tried wearing the jeans unbuttoned and that is just plain uncomfortable, you are constantly pulling them up! My first pregnancy was twins so always had that jelly belly because of it. OMG, the pregnancy jeans with full panel were sooooo comfortable! And you don't have that muffin top effect with regular jeans. I just think the maternity clothes are much more comfortable because they are made to accomodate that ever growing belly. And I felt so pretty in them! If you always wore a small then you should wear small maternity size, which is me! I don't have any shame in wearing the maternity clothes, just pick cute stuff and not the frumpy stuff.

time4d |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I think I'm going to cry! This is my first child, I'm only 9 weeks, have only gained 4 pounds and EVERYTHING I own is super tight on me. I don't think its the bump as much as my waist thickening? I'm contemplating on purchasing the bellyband...isn't it too early for maternity clothes?

DONT WAIT! Get yourself into those comfy maternity pants as soon as you feel uncomfortable. I was hesitant about making the switch but am so glad I didn't wait any longer- I don't know how I'll ever want to go back to normal pants after wearing these!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I thought with this being my 4th, I would pop out very quickly... but just like the other 3 pregnancies, I'm not showing yet at 17 weeks. My work pants are getting too snug to wear though, but my maternity pants are way too big to wear. It's getting frustrating, because I work where I need to dress nice and look presentable at all times. LOL! My other pregnancies I could get by with yoga pants and sweats for the majority of the time, but not this time! I think in the next 2 weeks, I'll have to suck it up and wear the maternity pants just out of comfort... not because you can see anything.

chelseabun76 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I bought a pari of maternity jeans when I was only 8 weeks simply because the bloating was making my regular jeans uncomfortable at times. I stuck with just those until I hit about 16 weeks. My belly just popped all of a sudden and the "rubberband trick" just wasn't working anymore. I went and bought one pair of maternity pants for each work day. Now, at 20 weeks, I am solely in maternity pants and tops (at least when I'm out in public) because everything else just looks indecent, haha! My belly is poking out a lot, so much that my husband's aunt wanted to know if I was having twins! Turns out it's just one little boy, though.

amykins1283 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

AbbytoWed |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant, and I'm just now not fitting into dress pants, although jeans still fit (yay for low-rise!). It's my first pregnancy and I am tall with a long torso, so i have been "slow to show". I just got a belly band and am just about ready to switch to maternity pants!

cmerhar |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm 8 weeks, and I went out and bought 3 pairs of pants yesterday... Call me insane, I only went in there looking for bella bands and maybe a bra since my boobs are now HUGE(r) at at least an H cup, but I decided to try on one pair of pants... Holy cow, I feel great! I can sit down, and eat/breathe at the same time! And sitting doesn't make me want to pee constantly anymore! It's amazing! Seriously, even if it is just bloat, get some comfy bottoms EARLY. Thyme Maternity was having a big sale, I spent under $90 and got a pair of cute jeans, a pair of cargo pants that roll up to flood pants, and a pair of capris - and the best part is, they're ALL comfortable. And they all are going to stretch out about another 1/2 size in the bum/thighs/hips, along with right out to a 12 month belly in the waist (I got the 3 in 1 waistband, look it up they're awesome!), so I can probably wear these until baby arrives. So thankful for maternity pants, especially since I can't find bella bands... I won't be doing shirts though, not with all of the empire waist stuff you can get everywhere, and the availability of tank tops - with being due in August, I think those stretchy tanks are going to be ideal!

cheryl_w |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm now 9 wks 4 days I bought one pair of maternity jeans with the waistband because they were on sale that I couldn't pass up. My sister just had a baby this December so luckily she's going to pass down some of her tops and such that worked for her all through the 2nd and 3rd trimester! She didn't buy many pants, though b/c she's a sono tech and could just wear scrubs a majority of the time.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I just started my 10th week with my 2nd and went and bought a pair of maternity jeans. All of my shirts are still ok, but the pants were just too tight!! The belly on the maternity pants is still too big, but at least I have room to grow

Everyone is different, but I needed to be comfy while dealing with nausea and raising a 2 year old. For me, 7 weeks.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am about 9 weeks and 3 or 4 days... I wear maternity pants if I wake up feeling bloated. Since I work with kids all day, I like to be comfortable, and on bad bloating days, regular pants just don't cut it!!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I lost weight last year, so all my pants seemed too big for me. I'm hoping I'll be able to stay in them a while. I'm looking forward to the butt in all of my pants not sagging anymore! Only 8 wks but definitely feeling bloated and looking different. Not uncomfortable in anything yet, but I'm saving pennies for new pants

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

At 11 weeks my blue jeans wouldn't button or zip. not a big belly so I didnt want to go spend money on maternity clothes that I didn't need yet. I tried the rubber band thing but it still made my belly uncomfortable. So this weekend I went and purchased a belly band/belt made of nylon from a maternity store. It lets me wear my pre prego pant un buttoned and unzipped comfortably and completly unoticable it looks like I have an under shirt pulled over my pants if my shirt comes up. Highly reccomend.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

With my first, I was in my own clothes until almost 7 months . . . but that was 15 years and about 60 lbs ago! This time around, I an 10 weeks, and just transitioning to maternity pants . . .and bigger tops. I was quite surprised (and more than a little discouraged) that the maternity tops I tried on were wither too small in the bust, or way too big everywhere else. . . who designs these things, anyhow??

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Wow - I'm surprised to here all the differences in timing for this! I am almost 12 weeks and I haven't begun to show or really needed to change much of anything. My breasts are bigger so some of my shirts don't fit right but I haven't had a problem with pants yet - hope that lasts awhile! :)

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I finally went maternity shopping last week (at 18 weeks) I went to Kohl's and found 3 very cute, stylish maternity paints! They dont look all weird at the back (my butt) looks normal with the paints. Haha I also found some cute, cute tops that were not in the maternity section that i can wear all through my pregnancy! The shirt looks really cute with black leggings that i got at Target, and black cute flats! I didn't think I would every find anything but I have. I can still wear most of my regular clothes, just my jeans are uncomfortable. I can wear all my shirts with my maternity clothes!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Just hit week 23 and I ventured out to buy some maternity jeans and a couple tops.. almost all of my clothes still fit, but my belly has begun to show and I noticed I've been avoiding wearing my jeans more and more. Everyone's different! The Gap had some cute stuff that didn't feel frumpy.

I"m about 22 weeks and not yet in maternity clothes. I'm wearing my jeans a little lower, and my pants that have been big for me. One of my young aunts gave me a whole tub, so I've got lots of tops and shorts when its time. I'm trying to hold off and avoid buying any maternity pants...when it gets a little warmer, I'll wear dresses and long tops with leggings.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm only 8 weeks and my clothes aren't fitting anymore. I haven't attempted to buy maternity pants yet, but I have been wearing the beband with my pants half unzipped. It seems that once I found out I was pregnant (I was already 6 weeks) my body just decided to blow up! I keep telling myself it's because I'm having a growing baby inside me, it makes me feel better about putting on the inches. :) And in case your wondering, I do exercise regularly as well as eat healthy...I also did these things pre-pregnancy so I'm not just gaining weight because of bad eating habits. Guess this just proves that we're all different, my BFF is 4 months and is barely showing!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am 11 weeks and feeling really bloated (going off bc made me gain weight before i was even pregnant, no fair!). Another pregnant friend of mine (who doesn't know I'm expecting yet too) said she used elastic hair bands between the button and button hole of her pants to give them a little extra room. I tried it for the first time today and it helps a lot! You can wear your regular clothes a little longer, and with a slightly longer top no one can see.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm 15.5 wks and I gave in and wore a pair of loaned maternity capris today. I can still fit in all my jeans just fine, but my higher waisted work pants are getting to be pretty snug. I put on a pair of work pants today and didn't like how they looked at all even though they still technically fit. Amazingly enough, the Gap maternity capris made me feel sexier and as a bonus they make me feel like I'm wearing sweatpants (w/o looking like it). It's warmed me up to the idea that maternity clothes don't have to look frumpy or unstylish, which is kind of a relief :) I'm going to try and hold off on buying maternity wear for awhile longer, but I think by about 17-18 weeks I'll need to go shopping.

Im at 9 weeks and feel really bloated. Luckily Im a pe teacher and found that I refuse to wear anything that isn't my Nike sweat pants. Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

This is baby #5 for me and I started bloating up around 6 weeks. I could still fit into most of my stuff though. I bough a couple of summer maternity dresses for this really hot Texas springtime weather (it's in the 80s and 90s already). So at almost 10 weeks my jeans are tight and I definitely have a bump...

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

This is my first pregnancy. I am a few days from 9 weeks and considering bottoms only. I have loss 2.5lbs (thanks to all day sickness) but my waistline has expanded and I have some noticeable "pudginess". I feel sloppy and uncomfortable in my regular clothing; I now have a mini muffin top . . .not cute!!! I have no fear about maternity clothing my street clothing would never be "frumpy" or "moo moo-ish". I will much rather invest in a few designer jeans (R&R, True Religion, Joe's) that I can grow with, so I get my money's worth in the end. Also in my profession you need to be polished on your worse days. I do not need shirts yet but cannot deal with the discomfort and pressure on my lower stomach anymore!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

PHEW~! I didn't know what to expect on this question. I will be 15 wks tomorrow and have yet to get out of my regular clothes. I was a chunky to begin with...a size 12. I've only have to buy a few bras since that seems to be the only thing that has grown at all. Hearing that others were in regular clothes as far out as 20wks makes me feel a little bit better about myself. Although I've been secretly wishing to see a baby bump. LOL!!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm expecting my third and with each of my pregnancies I've been a different pre-pregnancy size when I've gotten pregnant. The first go around I was a size 16, so it was about four months before wearing maternity clothes. The second I was around a size 12 and started needing maternity pants around ten weeks. This go around I was just about to drop from a size ten to eight so all of my clothes have a little extra room now anyways and I'm at ten weeks right now. I'm expecting at least another 2 weeks before I have to officially switch to maternity clothes.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am 11 weeks and I just started wearing maternity clothes. I am a petite person and found that I gained wait around my waist rather quickly. My regular pants were too tight. Instead of buying in bigger sizes, I just went straight to maternity pants. Some are still too big, but that's ok. I am a teacher and off for summer vacation so I usually sit around in maternity yoga shorts. When I return to work in the fall, I am sure I will be wearing all maternity stuff. When I am at home or at the gym, my wardrobe doesn't matter!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

19 weeks. I had trouble buttoning the top button on my jeans after dinner, starting at week 17. It was not a good feeling. So I drove myself to Old Navy to check out their selection of maternity clothes. I was seriously disappointed. The whole enitre maternity section was small as a couch. I was too disappointed to try anything on. But just yesterday, I tried it again, and what a relief it was! I got myself some basic bottoms (one pair of jeans, a skirt, black pants, and gray light cargo pants) for all around $100! I breathed a sigh of relief when I tried these maternity bottoms on and found that they were so comfortable! It felt like my belly could finally breathe! My belly isn't popping out yet. This is my first pregnancy and I just looks like I ate a lot. So I didn't buy any maternity tops yet. I'll start looking into maternity tops and nursing tops when my belly gets bigger.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Wow, this makes me feel so much better. I'm 18w3d and I've been putting off maternity clothes because a lot of my thinner girlfriends were able to put it off until way later. My problem was, I've lost 20 lbs since finding out I was pregnant at 11 weeks so some of my clothes fit better but now they are all getting super snug right below the waist. The rubberband method has helped so far but that's starting to push it now. I felt like I was being ridiculous getting maternity clothes already but reading this makes me feel normal! Thanks!

I am 25 weeks into my first pregnancy, and I am still not in maternity clothes. I went shopping immediately after finding out I was pregnant, and so far, have not used the items once. It seems that other than the larger bras, I won't get more than two months use out of my maternity clothes.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

24 weeks today, and I have not bought maternity clothes yet. They are kinda ugly. This is my 3rd pregnancy, and my first pregnancy (11 years ago!) I couldn't wait to wear maternity clothes. I did try them on, but they look huge. I am wearing yoga pants, and jeans that are a few sizes larger than normal and are low-rise with long tops or my belly band. I probably will have to buy some maternity clothes soon, but I am trying to hold out and save some money!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I love this sight...it's so nice to read what other people are going through! I'm only 5 wks with my first but yesterday and today my belly "popped" out. I've been eating super healthy and I'm small, but it's not something I can suck in (not that I want to, but I don't want coworkers knowing yet). Is it "baby bloat"? It's not gas and I'm not gaining weight anywhere else...I'd say I've actually lost a little (not trying to). But it's pretty obvious! Anyone else notice this so soon?

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am about five two and 10 weeks pregnant. I bought my first maternaty clothes this week. I am up a cup size and having never had a tummy before. I can tell the difference in how my clothes fit though other people can't tell other than the constant morning sickness. I think sometimes when you're petite you can notice a difference quickly. Either way everyone is different and there are a lot of options for maternity clothes that grow with you. I went to target today and found some comfortable jeans and feel much better! Never underestimate the power of pants that fit!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am 9 weeks now and do have some baby fat, but almost all of my regular-wear clothes fit me. As a rule I wear stretch-denim so that gives a little extra room in my jeans, save for maybe one pair that I can't button everyday. While Christmas shopping at Kmart, I put a few maternity outfits on Layaway, so by Christmas I'll have a few things already picked out by the time I'm really starting to show. I would advise doing something along those lines

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Tomorrow is my 9 week mark, and I have been sporting my Bella Band for a little over a week. I can't button ANY of my pants. I was a size 5/7 before. I am thinking another week and I will be getting some maternity pants. These bella bands work great for denim or cotton material pants, but my work pants make the band slip and slide- it doens't work so well then. Also, I am pretty positive it isn't any baby yet- but I have a bump. My tight fitting tops before now make me look VERY pregnant. Obviously the tighter the clothes, the bigger you look and more uncomfortable you are, and the more people want to touch your tummy! I think I will take up people's ideas, and hit Old Navy for some more comfy work clothes.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Isn't it funny how the baby can be the size of a plum and you still can't stand to wear anything binding on your belly?! With my first pregnancy, 13 years ago, I wore my regular clothes until the 6th month. With this pregnancy, our 6th, I know I won't make it to 16 weeks. That's okay though. There are lots of cute maternity clothes available. And I vow not to wear anything knit!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I went to maternity clothes at 14-15 weeks, and it was the best decision I've ever made!!! My mother and I hit Destination Maternity (Charlotte), and they have adorable Pea in the Pod clothes, and some cute Motherhood stuff as well!!! I'm so comfortable now (18 weeks), and because my clothes fit properly-I look really cute vs. looking frumpy. The "rubber band belt trick" just makes you feel messy and unkempt, and who wants to feel like that? I felt horrible in my regular clothes, because I've never carried weight in my tummy and all of a sudden I have this belly. Now I feel so much more comfortable at work or hanging with friends because I don't look messy.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I bought my very first maternity today at 13 weeks. I needed shirts more than pants, not only my breasts are growing but it feels like my shoulders, arms, and love handles are a little bigger than usual and I don't want the roly poly look. I got everything at Ross so I don't have to waste money on clothes I won't wear again. I usually wear a small shirt and I bought 1/2 medium and 1/2 larges. Much more comfy now. Hope this helps. ;)

I've been wearing some maternity pants since 15 weeks. Heidi Klum has a line that is reallly comfy and looks like regular pants. I'm 25 weeks now and have bought some maternity jeans with the band, but they are still a bit too big for me. I'm 25 weeks and have not started to wear any maternity clothes at all, except for a Bella Band to help keep my pants from falling below my belly. Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I got a belly sleeve at 10.5 weeks, and haven't buttoned my pants since lol... It was so nice I'm 14.5 weeks now, and my legs and butt still fit into my reg. jeans and slacks, but my bump which is already big, just wont fit. I was still trying to cram into my "skinny" shirts and they were just getting a little short and uncomfortable, I got some maternity shirts at a cute little store by us and just having that little bit of extra lenth in them and a little more belly room made all the difference in the world. I am finally comfortable in my own clothes, and when you are pregnant nothing is more needed than comfort, if you're going to hurt in your own body you may as well keep your body from hurting in your clothes.

12 weeks with our first baby and I had to get maternity jeans yesterday. I get so bloated by the end of the day that it is uncomfortable to go out even with the button open and belly bank on my pre preg jeans. Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

This is my first, and I've been in maternity jeans since 9 weeks. My regular jeans were too tight and I tried a bellaband but it kept rolling up like pantyhose and choking me just as much as anything else, so I took the plunge early. My shirts had to go very early too thanks to the considerable increase in size to the sisters... I wear pretty fitted things, so it was getting a bit indecent (or at least I felt it was so)

AaronKara |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I have been lucky enough to still be wearing a lot of my regular clothes at 25 weeks. I use a bellyband with a couple pairs of my jeans but that will stop soon since it's getting tight now. lol It's all about how you feel and your body is storing the weight.

DreaMamma |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I normally wear my pants snug through the hips, so at 7 weeks I'm about to pull out my maternity pants from my first child. It's really not so much that I've already expanded as it is that my nausea really prevents me from wearing anything vaguely snug. My breasts are expanding yet, but if the last time around is any indication, I'll be buying new bras and work shirts by about 12 weeks. I should be able to wear my regular, looser tops for several weeks yet.

JanandJon |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

With my last pregnancy, I never wore maternity clothes. They were all just way too big and I looked extremely awkward in them. I went with sun dresses, peasant tops, linen pants, or clothes a size bigger than what I normally wear. I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant and I'm still wearing my normal clothes. We'll see how the rest of my pregnancy turns out. I say enjoy the bump while you have it...have fun finding creative new looks for yourself while you carry your little one.

With my first pregnancy I didn't have to wear maternity clothes until I was 20 some weeks and even then it was just my pants that didn't fit any more. Plus my boobs are so large that an XL shirt wont fit over them. I thought that I was the only one wearing maternity clothes this early in my pregnancy. With my last it was overnight. One day everyting fit the next nothing at about 9 wks. The very first time I wore regular jeans until 6 months then I exploded. Every one is different.

I am 10 weeks and my belly is still more bloated than pregnant but my regular clothes are too tight.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am just about 8 wks and my regular clothes are tight and the rubber band thing doesn't work too well. I just want lose comfortable clothes. I think the fact that I was bigger a couple of years ago and recently lost 65 lbs I think my body is just use to being big. Wish I would of hung on to some of my old clothes.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm at 8 weeks and I have a nasty gut. I still fit into my regular clothes, but feel fat. I"m going to get some belly bands and stick with my normal clothes until I can't anymore. I think it defintely varies because some women are naturally tiny and others are larger. I say just be comfortable and don't worry about what anyone else is doing. It's different for everybody.

I am 30 weeks and starting to get into maternity clothes. I can still wear some of my normal pant but like wearing maternity pants for comfort. Every one is differant and every baby is differant. With my first baby I was in maternity clothes much faster but not with this one. Just wear what is most comfortable to you :)

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Probably no point in posting since this will be 3 miles down the list but I'm 15w5d and haven't started showing. But I had lost about 25lbs just before getting preg so many of the too big clothes I have might still work for me (maybe with a belly band) when I do start showing. I may post again when/if I end up buying maternity clothes.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I FEEL like shopping for maternity clothes already (15 weeks), but mostly because I'm so bloated!! I can still wear my regular jeans, but have started wearing sundresses to work more often just to be comfortable. This is my first pregnancy and I've heard a lot of women don't start showing until much later with baby # 1... I'm worried about starting to "show" too early.. This early pregnancy stuff is hard work!!

jabowman911 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm 16 weeks and though I've been given some maternity clothes I haven't brought myself to wearing them. I just don't feel like I should be that big this soon! Alas, even the unbuttoned pants are uncomfortable now so I know I will have to give in pretty soon. I think a belly band would be a good compromise at this size/stage but remember the sooner you buy/wear maternity clothes the more you get your money's worth!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm 17 weeks and started wearing maternity clothes this week. Things just started getting way to tight. Maybe it's because I'm so bloated, but I just couldn't stand being in my clothes any longer. After buying some clothes, I thought maybe it was just my imagination that I needed maternity clothing, so I wore my regular clothes one day to work and was so uncomfortable the whole day. So I am giving up my regular clothes.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I just bought a pair of maternity shorts and I'm only 8 weeks! I have the belly band, but sometimes it's just too uncomfortable to wear on a hot summer day. This is my first and I'm having MAJOR bloating so nothing fits.

JMKtoJKE |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm in week six and I've already went up a cup size in bras (which is hard because they do not make my cup size in my band size) and have started to wear a belly band so that I can wear most of my regular pants and keep them unbuttoned. I have started to look at rummage sales and on craigslist for maternity clothing, because tis the season for those and I want to save money for when the baby actually needs things!

mandycmetzger |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am at ten weeks and have only gained three pounds, but nothing fits. Most of my pre-preg clothes were form fitting, so ther is not a lot of room for bloating. I tried to use an elastic, but found that it stuck out under my shirt. I went to a maternity store today to look into the whole thing (1st pregnancy). Got the belly band and two pairs of maternity pants and two shirts. Everything is designed to grow with you, and the salesperson was such a help. They even had a 7 month belly bump pillow you could try on with the clothes to see how they will look later on. It was so fun, and I am so much more comfy in my new clothes.

I am now 10 weeks and have a little pudgy tummy, but still pretty much fitting into my all my clothes. I do have some discomfort as the day wears on around my tummy area, so looking forward to doing a bit of shopping this summer as I continue to grow :) First baby, so maybe that's why I am not showing that much yet!

putus |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

11 weeks now, and I have prepped my maternity wear with a belly band for when I will need it. I have only REALLY needed new bras, as that was the first thing to grow :)

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I feel so much better after reading this. I am 8w3d and my size 10 pants are way too uncomfortable. I still have some size 12 and 14 clothes from before I lost weight, but the size 12 shorts are super baggy in the butt and thigh area, but they are more roomy in the waist. I thought I was feeling uncomfortable in my pants way too early, but it's nice to know I'm normal. I think I may invest in a pair of elastic banded shorts to get me through the rest of the summer. Better to be comfortable than self conscious.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

First baby I wore regular clothes, one size bigger, for comfort until 5 months...then moved to maternity clothes. Am preg with 2nd baby at 10 weeks now and am already breaking out the maternity clothes from baby #1. So much more comfortable!

LGrudzien |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

My regular jeans are getting a bit snug in the waist, but I can still button them, thanks to my penchant for wearing loose-fitting clothes pre-pregnancy. I have one pair of maternity pants that I bought only because they were on the clearance rack due to being "defective." The "defect?" This particular store only carries maternity online, and these pants were returned in-store. So for $8, I had some cute capris that don't even look like maternity pants save for the elastic waist. I wore them for the first time on Saturday - Day 2 of Week 10. Still a bit loose, but comfy! I think that by Week 12 or so I will have to really begin to shop for maternity pants, and shirts will come much later (most of mine are so loose anyway).

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I am 18 weeks and have been wearing my regular clothes (looser items) mostly. I wear scrubs to work all week, so that has been great. I almost cried in the mall over the weekend when I couldn't find an inexpensive dress to wear to a wedding next weekend, then Motherhood Maternity came through with several affordable options!

lcrawford07 |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I think it all depends on your size before you get pregnant. I was super tiny before baby so my dress shirts got tight in certain places almost right away (8 weeks) so i went to motherhood and got some shirts that will fit almost the whole pregnancy and even now. they have rouching (sp?) on the sides so they look like normal shirts now and will give as much as I need them to. but all the "real" maternity shirts are still huge on me.

I could benefit from some pants; but anything I like is so pricey. Im 9 weeks - 2 live births;. 2 failed, so this is my 5th pregnancy. I think there is something to be said in regards to rapidly expanding uteruses in women who have had a few pregnancies. Bras were an early investment too.... the girls need to be comfortable!

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

My pants got too tight within 12 weeks, but it was my legs and bottom that made them too tight, not the belly. I'm 18 weeks now and still look silly in maternity clothes. I solved the problem by buying a couple pairs of pants 1-2 sizes up from normal and they still fit comfortably. I think my belly will need maternity pants in another couple weeks, maybe a month.

I am 17 weeks today and still fitting into my regular pants just fine. Shirts aren't tight, just show off my little bump. According to the scale at the dr.s office every month, I really haven't gained much weight, so I'm not sure when I'll be in maternity clothes.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

My first pregnancy I fought it and didnt wear maternity until around 30-32 weeks just because I thought for some reason regular clothes SQUEEZING me looked/feel better. This time around I started half maternity pants and half bella bands covering my regular jeans around 20 weeks or sooner. I feel and look much better and places like Gap and Targets maternity jeans you buy in your regular size so places like your butt and legs will look great instead of buying jeans a size or two bigger when your other body parts may not have grown so flaunt it and wear nicely fitting maternity pants/jeans ;) As far as tops...I am not a fan of the fit of maternity tops yet I feel they make women look frumpier than just a nice Tshirt or flowing cami tank in the summertime with good fitting Target/Gap maternity jeans rolled into Capris. I am 5'9 so even if your tall you can buy regular maternity jeans at those places and roll them into cuffed capri jeans! I also am a huge fan of vests of all sorts you put a Tshirt under a vest (places like Maurices sell alot of varietys) and the vest will hide any possible new found muffin top syndromes while your belly looks just like a bump no matter how big your getting the vest hides the other areas that may have unfortunately grown with your belly!

A Sailor's Girl |

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

Found out I was preggers, a couple weeks before I turned 40. Bought myself a bra n panty set, and two maxi dresses w/ empire waists. Dresses great at hiding belly, at family functions, past two months. Been doing the rubber band trick, with my pants; that is just not comfortable, anymore. This passed weekend, 13 wks, I was in the mall, and stumbled upon a Motherhood Maternity. Tried on a few things, and couldn't believe how much more comfortable, I was. $175 later, I have 3 tanks, 3 t's, 2 shorts, belly oil, and a tub of belly lotion. Tried on the clothes, for Hubby, at home. I freaked out, a little. They accent the belly, and make it all very real. Regular clothes, even in bigger sizes, just make you look flabby and fat. Maternity clothes flaunt that baby, and are so much more comfortable.

Q&A: When will I start wearing maternity clothes?

I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow and just ordered some maternity clothes. Tops and bottoms. I am barely showing but I just feel so puffy. Even if I unbutton my pants they start to get tight on my legs. A bigger bra is my next purchase!
