Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

Is it true that pregnancy causes memory problems?

Re: Is it true that pregnancy causes memory problems?

The Bump Expert

Yep, looks like this one's more than just an old wives' tale after all (sweet vindication!). According to a study by two Australian researchers, pregnant women tend to have trouble multitasking and are likely to have worse short-term memory than those who aren't pregnant.

While researchers aren't sure exactly why memory would take a hit during such an inconvenient time (as if you didn't have enough things to deal with right now), they believe it could be blamed on an all-too-common culprit: all those raging hormones.

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

Most definitely it does and it can be embarrassing too...lol. I recalled once when I gave my mom some money and came back around 30 mins and gave her the same amount of money for a certain transaction she did for me. She was like, what is this for? I told her and she said You gave me the money earlier. I was like, really? I so had no memory that I gave her any money earlier.:-D

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

I notice it most at work.. My coworkers laugh, and say its the worst case of Prego brain they have ever seen. My boss has taken to politely leaving written messages and reminding me multiple times. Somehow no one gets upset that I am underperforming...but i get embarrassed.

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

Definitely! I was shocked at myself. I was going to my SUV and actually forgot for a minute how to open the back to put shopping bags in! I just stood there dumbfounded! I am having a girl and I have read- don't know exactly how true this is but- that having a girl makes you more prone to this.

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

I rented a movie at Redbox, but walked away without grabbing the vidoe from the machine!! Duh. My husband and I drove down the road when suddenly I realized I didn't have the movie. He laughed and said that was probably the first time anyone had ever done that. Oh well!

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

OMG yes!!! I lost my wallet, which had all my cards & the money that I had set aside to get my hair done in it! I searched the house for 3 hours without finding it. I had to actually cancel my appt since I couldn't find the wallet, and my honey wasn't around to give me some money until I found mine. After he got home (2 hours after I canceled) we looked again, and unbelievably it was in a rarely used pocket in my purse! I couldn't even laugh I was so frustrated! If that isn't a perfect example of pregnancy brain, I don't know what is!

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

This is sooo true!!! I have to be more organized than ever just so I don't misplace or lose anything, but not remembering where you put things isn't the worst thing. The weirdest part is when you have a conversation and all of a sudden you blank on your own story :/ thank God people are more understanding with a pregnant lady lol

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

ooooh... don't even get me started on this one - i'm so f**** helpless right now - can't remember one single thing, saying that I'm an office manager so my work is pure multi tasking all day long - saying that, i'm the one responsible for quite a few tasks of my DH's life as well (like his doc' appts, our cars (thanks, only 2 of them), upcoming vacation, finishing rebuilding our apt - started way before concieveing etc...) GOD HELP :):):) i really try to write down EVERYTHING - but then i'm a mess if I forget the diary, cell or that little peace of paper I wrote everythinb on...

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

I seriously believe it... but how do I tell my boss??? She has been a little impatient with me and I feel silly coming up to her and giving her this excuse. she doesnt have any kids so never been pregnant. Im very forgetfull as it is, but now.... :( why couldn't it be that pregnancy reverses your current state or memory??? From organized to forgetfull or... from forgetfull to organized :D half the time I dont remember what I wore the day before.... not kidding what-so-ever! Sometimes I feel like I wil lose my job :( Good thing Im not hormonaly emotional...yet...?

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

After I came back from a week long vacation I had completely forgotten how to do some of the key functions in Excel that I have used for almost a year now. It took me a good while to figure them out.

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

it's true. I usually kickass at my job, however between the forgetfulness and being sooooo tired I ended up telling my boss really early (at 7 weeks) what was going on. He said he understood and remembered how his wife was with their kids (who are now my age).

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

i know it certainly not old age, or stress, its d pregenancy dat makes me forgetful. Thank God for my boss Jane, who had a baby last yr 'stresslessly', she is been very understanding. I've lost my keys, my money and i even forget what i just said! Very embassing indeeed. I have undestanding friends that help when i'm so sad i cry. Of all, Forgetfulness is the most irritating.

Q&A: Does pregnancy cause memory problems?

I thought so! I work at a job that requires much of my memory usage M-F, 8-4 and I almost every other day when I'm done with lunch I leave my phone in my lunch bag in the fridge for 2-3 hours until it dawned on me that I refrigerated my phone without a clue. LOL!!
