Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I'm not quite ready to break the news yet, but I'm starting to show. Any tips for hiding my belly a couple more weeks?

Re: I'm not quite ready to break the news yet, but I'm starting to show. Any tips for hiding my belly a couple more weeks?

The Bump Expert

Not that we're into deceit and trickery or anything, but... of course!

[  ] Start complaining. "I'm so fat" ... "There's just no time to work out anymore "... You get the idea.

[  ] Try to curb the cravings. While pickles with peanut butter may sound sumptuous to you, a. it'll raise some eyebrows, and b. it's really kind of gross. No offense.

[  ] Put a lime in whatever you order (try clear beverages or watered down cranberry juice) and it'll look just like a cocktail.

[  ] Hold off on the maternity clothes just a little longer... or at least find some cute ones.

[  ] Keep the "doctor's appointments" to a minimum. Try the old plumber/electrician/cable guy/whatever excuse instead.

Layers do wonders!

re: Q: Hiding Pregnancy?

Unless your officemates would find it weird for you to wear these items, here's another suggestion that worked for me. Wear a silk scarf knotted where a v-neck would "v"--masks your growing chest size and draws attention up to face instead of down to belly. Also, wearing a suit jacket (open) works well, especially wearing black underneath. Not only do you look and feel more professional, people can't see your belly.

re: Q: Hiding Pregnancy?

I was 20 weeks before I told clients! I wore long jackets with always a black top underneath and black trousers and wore kind of draped scarves/ pashminas- I often carried a notebook in front of my belly too!!

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

I work in retail management and a bit surprised that no one has said anything to me yet, I haven't really popped yet at 17 weeks. My chest is much bigger than the A cup I was before, I was wearing the super wonder bras and no wear the nonpadded style. At least in my mind there is no diff....we will see what they say when I make the big announcement at work. Hopefully not too many will say they already knew:)

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

...and, as far as pesky questions go (like why am I not drinking?) I have been going with the good old "I am still too hung over from last night" lie...

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

I was wearing my regular shirts with maternity pants underneath. I thought I just looked hefty....this week though I am 18 weeks and I went to a new client's office. When I introduced myself they looked at my face, then my belly, then back at my face. Then there are the comments: "oh, aren't you going to lunch yet? You should really take care of yourself." I think the cat is out of the bag- although no one has said anything specific, they know. I'm telling my boss on Friday. I just hope he hasn't already noticed....

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

I've been going with the I'm letting my self go, and that's why I am always wearing stretchy pants and loose fitting tops excuse. Also when I am feeling especially green I just go with the hung over excuse. I get out of drinking cause I blame the newly gained pounds for my aversion to the added calories.

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

It's funny because as much as you try to hide it, most people already know. People pay attention to details more than you think. I waited a while before I told anyone on my job or in my family, but when I did, they wasnt surprized, they were very excited and actually relieved that they can ask me questions without seeming like they are making assumptions. It did feel good when I didnt have to think so much about what I was going to wear and how to hide it. The anxiety was finally over.

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

I def do layers and the whole bella band thing. Though my office is really cold I get away with wearing a small bubble vest. so that helps in hiding the bump. Only 11 weeks but I'm so bloated I sometimes look like i'm 5 months.

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

I'm sure they all know here, but I'm trying my best to hide it. One lady told me I look pregnant in the face lol. I can surely say I look pregnant in my tummy too, but my jacket covers that a little bit. I'm just not a loud person. For me this is our last child and I want it t be private and intimate. I don't want my co workers asking fifty million questions. We have two preggos as it is. I'm happy with them hovering over them lol. I will hide it until I can hide no more. My boss knows and that is all that matters!

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant and I am still the same weight and size pre-pregnancy..Actually I lost some weight and went down a size during the first trimester. I am actually excited to get a cute bump.

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

I am only about 5 weeks along and we want to wait to tell family and friends until after the first dr. appt. in a few weeks. We are seeing my whole family this weekend for Memorial Day, and I don't want them to get any ideas. My family likes to have cocktails with dinner, and I normally have them too - but this weekend I obviously can't, so I'm thinking that is going to raise some eyebrows. I'm going to have to find some creative ways to avoid the drinks or make n/a drinks that look like the real thing!

re: Q: Hiding pregnancy?

I'm in the military so we all wear the same exact uniform. I'm 18 weeks now and you cant tell. I work in an air conditioned space so i wear my jacket all the time. Once it comes off, it's quite noticeable that im expecting. As the weeks go by i will have to wear a maternity uniform which is so embarassing cause it's literally 3 times bigger then what it should be. I got about another month until i gotta make the big switch to it. I think i will be more comfortable and relaxed once everybody knows and i can stop trying to hide it.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

Hiding your pregnancy by "fake drinking" isn't too hard. If you like beer, go for a non-alcoholic brand that you would normally drink and just peel the label off where it says "non-alcoholic". Or go for a watered down cranberry juice, clear drink (like Sprite) or sparkling juice. It did wonders for me to hide the fact that I am expecting! :)

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I see no reason to hide anything. Even if you weren't pregnant and were just getting fat it's nobody's business but your own. Besides, if they think you're fat when you do decide to break the news they should feel guilty for gossiping about you in the first place.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I'm still trying to hide for two more weeks but it's getting more difficult. I have been telling people, which is true but it wouldn't have to be to use it, that I'm having thyroid problems. Underactive thyroid (hypothyroid) makes you gain weight. I've been wearing tops one size larger and using a BeBand to cover up my pants not buttoning. For casual, I wear a maternity t-shirt. The shape doesn't look that much different on but you can't see the bump. I'm trying to pull this off for two more weeks (until after the 13 week ultrasound). Good luck, girls!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

So far I've been able to hide it with my normal trendy clothes.. they are sort of "flow-y" around the mid area anyway. I'm also an aerobics instructor and that's the only clothing that I've had to modify to not "give it out yet"....-yoga maternity pants are great and comfi!!!! And last but not least.. my hubby and I have a plan, every time we go out with our friends... we delay to order drinks, then he goes to the "bathroom" which means he goes to the bar and ask for a fruity martinit with everything but the vodka.. these "fake" martinits have been a HIT!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

button-down shirts/blouses with stretchy skirts is working pretty well for me. When I wear my old clothes people can totally figure it out. When I wear button down shirts, especially with a little pattern to them, it hides it well enough, although my fourth grade students already asked me twice if I'm pregnant - kids tend to sense these things, I guess!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I had a small beer belly before I got pregnant, and now the pregnancy bloat has made my little belly look big! I'm not ready to tell people yet, so I've been using a small Bella Band under my clothes like a girdle. It's comfortable, and keeps your waistline smooth. Plus, since it's under my pants, you can still see the belt loops, etc., so I haven't gotten any questions about "maternity pants". Also, thank goodness for the flowy tops that are in style now. They really help hide a growing midsection.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

This is my 2nd pregnancy and my co-workers are patiently waiting for when I am going to announce - they know I want another. The holidays are no good for hiding this - too many parties with drinking! I told one co-worker who is a good friend of mine. She is going to help me at parties by pouring my non-alcoholic drinks and keeping them a secret. She is also doing some heavy lifting for me around the office. Feels good to have that safety net and not stress so much about it. Although, she did tell me that one of my younger co-workers is keeping track of how many times I go to the bathroom each day to see if she can figure out when I get pregnant. Sorry, not holding it just for that!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I have found the long, flowing cardigan-type sweaters to be a great layer to camouflage my growing belly. I'm only 14 weeks but it's my second and things are popping out much more quickly this time around!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

The scarf idea, long cardigans, carrying notebooks, and flowing tops are great. I am heading into my 14th week and FINALLY have an appointment with my supervisors to tell them. I got called out by someone at work when i was only 8 weeks (i had actually just gained 15 lbs before i even got pregnant - embarrassing), but i was mortified. We have a lot of "restructuring" going on, so I was in no way ready to come out yet! I still do not want it to be a big deal. When people are loosing jobs, you don't want to be "the weakest link". I wish I could have hidden it longer, but it really isn't very hide-able anymore, and i am sure since my co-worker first noticed, the rumor mill has already been at work. I wish people did not have to be so nosey.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I was married in August last year and am 11 weeks pregnant. I work at a small school where there are 20 women and one male employee. I have had many recent comments by my co-workers about when/ if my husband and I were planning on having a baby.. When I left work early one day because of a back ache my boss even asked (jokingly) Are you pregnant? I suppose when your workforce is full of moms they will all figure it out eventually. I'm happy to say that I will be telling everyone in a week or two, but I'm sure they all know already. Now I have to decide when to tell my class of elementary students- I think that will be even harder then telling my co-workers.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

A great way to avoid alcohol is to say "i have a headache/migraine and drinking will only make it worse." We're waiting until the end of the first trimester, which i really hard - I want to tell everyone how excited I am (its my first) and explain why I gained weight (going off the pill and onto prenatal vitamins I gained 15 lbs before conceiving).

Oh, I have used the migraine excuse, too! It's helpful to get out of drinking. As for the clothing - I have found my jeans hide things better than most of my nice work pants. I am layering since the weather is still cool.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I have found it really difficult to keep a secret. Everyone just seems to know and I'm not showing yet. My best friend guessed simply because I ordered decaf coffee. Several friends guessed when I wasn't drinking wine with dinner. I even had a friend I haven't talked to in six months call and say she had a dream I was pregnant! Ugh! I can't wait until the first trimester is over!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I agree with the posts that say most people probably already know and pay attention to detail more than you think. Plus, if you're feeling sick, you are looking sick, and the women in your office will pick up on that. That being said, I was just at a work coctail party and no one knew. I didn't drink just saying I had to do more work later on. I am wearing a black wrap and it just looks like I'm cold. Blazers are good too

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I am only 9 wks and I have lost about 6 pounds but my tummy looks more obvious. I think I lost the weight because of this strict diet the doctor and my husband have me on... no sugar, tons of water (I feel like a walking water balloon). I think my tummy looks a little bigger than I am used to and I am having trouble hiding my tummy at my office. I would wear more blazers but it really doesnt go with my work environment. I will try the scarf thing though. Thanks for the advice. I just think it is hard because the shape of your body changes.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I've noticed when shopping for maternity clothes online that models who wear prints aren't as noticeably pregnant as the models that wear solid colors. Something with a black background and flowers or geometric shapes seems to always hide the bump, even in the really big bellies.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

Two thoughts: 1) I'm a pediatric resident and working in the NICU. This is emotionally very difficult to see very ill babies while expecting my first. It's also physically demanding. I get to work at 7:30 in the morning and we round on our patients, standing and without breaks, for hours (sometimes till 1 pm). I realized early on that my overactive bladder and nausea both needed to be addressed more frequently than that. Moreover, I need to take care of my baby so that he or she does not end up being taken care of by my colleagues. I was nervous about telling the neonatologist but didn't want him to think I was uninterested or sneaking out because I'm lazy. Know what? He makes sure that I get enough brakes and I get to sit during rounds now. The support of my colleagues is amazing. 2) A few friends figured it out around when I was 7 weeks at a colleague's wedding. I thought about lying about what I was drinking but I realized that I'd rather that they think that I might be pregnant than to look back and think that I was irresponsible and drinking through my pregnancy.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I'm 9 weeks and I've been wearing longer shirts at work so far. When we go out, I get a beer and then hold it until my husband is done with his then we do a quick swap when nobody is watching. Or I order by myself and get a sprite on the rocks with a lime. Looks like a gin and tonic.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I love the fact that winter is just around the corner and the temps are dropping. So being that I'm at 13 weeks now and just getting the baby bump showing I plan to buy some maternity pants and wear baggy sweaters over them. Layering in the winter is a great way to hide pregnancy.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I am 11 weeks and I tried to hide it until I went out with several of my girlfriends for dinner and a movie. I brought a babydoll type bubble shirt ....lets just say before dessert it was obvious that I was pregnant. I guess my plan didnt work! I always had a rather small stomach and have been doing Zumba for 5 months so, it didnt take much for them to figure it out.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I'm almost 20 weeks in. No one at the office even guessed until I told them a few days ago...and I was tiny and fit pre-pregnancy (so it's been obvious to me for a few weeks). I just always wore blazers a size larger than needed (a habit I've had for several years - well before the pregnancy).

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I`m having a hard time covering it at work. I`m 9 weeks. Between my uniform pants (I`m a medic) snugging up and my dashing to washrooms, and having to throw up at all times of the day (while on the way to calls, at the ER, at base) a few people have guessed. I was so hoping to keep it a secret until 14-15 weeks. How long are other people waiting until they tell family or workÉ

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

Wearing a uniform at work doesnt help me hid my belly but wearing a tight fitting tanktop helps my uniform shirt not form to my belly. I found out I was pregnant right before the holidays so I made my New Years resolution to not drink... No one has commented or questioned it yet!! Sport Bras under casual shirts and Tshirts help hide the ever fast growing boobs. We will be 11 weeks in 3 days and are waiting till about 15 weeks to tell the family!!

to help with the whole drinking thing... i either mix soda water with a splash of cran or pineapple juice and then i often order a regular beer and water. then I dump out the beer in the bathroom and fill it up with the water :) that way you can drink from that same bottle all night but its only water

Giving excuses for not drinking would never work for me. Everyone would see right through that. So instead I have my sister pound a beer than I go fill it up with water. Even doing that people make comments "wow you're nursing that beer, that's getting warm etc..." so sad what you have to do to 'fake' drink.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I don't drink, but it was really hard for me to hide my belly since a month and a half ago. Nobody knew except for my family. My brother is a wrestler and I always go with him to watch. I was dating a wrestler from Sept. 19 to Oct. 9 and after a week from breaking up I was getting sick. When I found out I was pregnant I was gonna tell him, but his stepdad didnt want him to have anything to do with me so I said I was gonna tell him that I took a test, but I lied and said I'm not pregnant. We haven't been together since and I hid my pregnancy from him and other wrestlers from 3 different federations that I go to since then till now. I'm overweight, but I didn't start showing till 2 weeks ago and the wrestlers and some of the fans have noticed. I tried to hide it all that I can hide, but now I can't do that anymore. I'll be 19 weeks on Sunday and someone from this past Saturday went and opened their big mouth to my ex and said he's gonna be a dad right there in front of his fiance. She got pissed and walked out of the show. Me and him haven't spoken to each other for almost 2 months and he tried coming over to me to talk, but I got up and walked away from him. He caught up with me after the show and hugged me though. I didn't want him to touch me nor talk to me, but he held onto me and told me everything will be alright and that he promises to be there for me and our son, but I don't believe him. I'm scared to be a single mom, but I truly feel like I should have never told him. Since then though he's been calling and texting me to check up on me and the baby and I actually like it that he's trying to be there for me and our son. I have cried for 2 or 3 months and I miss and still love him, but I can't get myself to ask him for help. I've got all the help I need.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

While the coworkers and friends (for the most part) don't know yet, the family found out a mere day after we did due to my inability to lie. We were out to dinner for my mother-in-law and my birthdays (they're a day apart) and she ordered champagne for the table. There's no excuse that works convincingly for refusing champs on your birthday, so of course everyone immediately knew when I said "none for me!"

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I stopped smoking as soon as I found out that we are expecting. Naturally some of my friends questioned why I had made that choice, but it is pretty easy just to say that it is a healthier decision for my husband and I. I've also told them that we are going to start trying so I wanted to get as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, we were not actually trying or I would have quit sooner. I've also used cigarettes as the reason I don't drink. I've told people that alcohol brings on cravings so I have been avoiding it. The weight gain has also been blamed on quitting smoking. I blame the tiredness and "morning" sickness on all sorts of things. One of my co-workers suspects that I am and has been telling others (who I would not confide in) that she feels like a victim because I am not telling her. It would be nice if my co-worker and "friend" would find it in herself to give me some space and let me enjoy my first few weeks of pregnancy without being the subject of gossip. Too bad, she is making this about her and not realizing how hurtful she is being by talking about me behind my back. I hope you ladies can get through the first couple of months without that kind of headache!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I,m excited about my little bump. So hiding its not an issue me.

Twalac | June 19 , 2011 5:23 PM

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I have to heartily disagree with the bump's advice to start saying things like "I'm so fat" and putting yourself down...pregnancy and the body changes are sensitive and vulnerable enough without creating a situation where one would "pretend" to be unhappy about their body. As someone who has struggled with body issues my whole life, pregnancy is a time to be extra vigilant about not letting any of that old negative self talk come back in to play. And as far as having to justify not drinking or pretend that you are, whatever happened "to thine own self be true" and it's none of my business what others think of me? Someone else said it best when they said that even if you weren't pregnant and had just gained weight, or just didn't feel like drinking or were trying to quit, I believe I owe no one but myself and whatever inner source of guidance I call upon an explanation. Sorry for the soap box, I just felt disturbed at all the hype around making things up to escape others' judgements. It's fine to say "I'd rather not discuss this." Thanks.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

My thoughts exactly beautifulheidiminna! I think it's really sad that people are pretending to be drinking alcohol. I don't drink much anyway and when someone has asked if I want a beer/glass of wine, I simply say I need to hydrate and ask for a water and carry on. No big deal. On July 4th I snagged the role of designated driver and that worked too. No need to lie or pretend or feel you need to have an explanation for not imbibing.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I just hit 12 weeks and although some of my clothes are a little snug right now (thankfully I had lost some weight since last summer so those clothes will suffice for the rest of the summer), I'm not yet 'showing' that baby bump. It's going to get harder as I've been interviewing for jobs for the last 6 months and finding a job is even more important now than it was before. I'm going to have to be creative if the bump appears before I get a new job - thanks for the advice on the scarfs and black shirts under jackets.

Try to wear your regular jeans & wear flowy tops or shirts that don't emphasize your belly. I am now 11 weeks and a little bump has popped up. I am wearing blazers and carrying things in front of my belly. It is going to get old fast, so there comes a point where you just have to go with it.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I work in a hospital for OB/GYN so I went ahead and told everyone immediately because i knew they would all guess pretty quickly. I am not really telling other people outside of family, but im not showing really either at 11weeks. I got a few cute dark colored cardigans and black yoga pants and leggings. Stretch pants are super in, so I dont think too many people would question that look unless you are a jeans everyday type of person, or you have to wear a suit everyday. Even then, I wear suit pants and i just put a looser fitting shirt and a cardigan on. Most offices are cold enough that its not strange for you to have something covering you up. The only person that has commented on my now enormous chest is my partners best friend.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I am a OB/GYN so all my colleagues guessed very quickly! I was covering mine up becasue I felt that patients didn't need to know. Their appointments should focus on their pregnancies, not mine. My scrubs and coat covered very well. I'd recommend clothes a little roomier but not baggy because that just draws attention to the areas that are growing.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

Belly Bands are great! Good luck! I recently went through a miscarriage and my family and friends completely know we are trying now. Which, they also know I love to have a beer or two at get-togethers so, a random attempt at an excuse to not drink will throw up signals right away...so would a n/a "mixed drink". I tend to be picky at the type of beer I drink sooo...I have been saving up empty bottles and the tops. Next time we get preggers I will have clean beer bottles to drink water from and no one will be the wiser. :) Bahahahaha.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I really hope that all of the tips and tricks I've read help me out. I'm 11 weeks and start a new job in 3 weeks. So I'm going to have to hide my baby bump for a LONG time, so I can get through my 3 month probationary period without anyone knowing! I'm a heavier girl to begin with, so it shouldn't be hard for the next couple weeks anyway!

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

My bump popped two weeks ago... i'm 10 weeks and 2 days based on the sono. If i start wearing looser clothes it will be obvious. All my office attire is fitted since i work out and eat right [for the most part]. I'm not really looking forward to maternity clothes, may just need bigger pants until 6 months. I'll have to give the belly band a try...

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

The best way of hiding is to wear larger clothes. You should never use Cannabis Seeds UK becasue those things won't help you at all. They will do exactly the opposite and you may need a doctor if you take any kind of cannabis seeds.

Q&A: How to hide my pregnancy?

I pretty much made it impossible for myself to hide it... I use to be a smoker and my answer to my concerned friends and family who suggested I quit was "I'll quit when I get pregnant." Soooo you can imagine what happened when I quit. Dead givaway!
