Your first step is to talk with your doctor about your treatment options. If medication is being suggested, as opposed to or in addition to regular therapy, then you need to know what the safest options are, as well as the possible side effects. The risks of antidepressants during pregnancy have been a hot topic for years and few medications have been proven safe without a doubt during pregnancy. However, the risks of leaving your depression untreated have to be considered, too.

The particular kind of antidepressant your doc prescribes is also another factor, since some can cause more harm to your fetus than others. Depending on your particular case, your doctor may recommend lowering your dosage, switching to new meds, or stopping meds entirely.

Q&A: I've been diagnosed with depression. What should I know before I get pregnant?

My advice is don't try to conceive unless u think having a baby will definately improve your condition and quality of life, which it will! However, it can be insanely emotional and overwhelming even for a woman with good emotional balance. Point blank? My neice Jst turned 2 and suffers from seizures because her mother didn't stop taking her prozac. And yes when I watch this poor child suffer and I know the cause, it breaks my heart. In my opinion, being a parent is all about setting your own needs and desires aside for the well being of that child who souly depends on you for a fair shot at a healthy happy life, so a get time to start is while baby is in womb! Wean yourself off the mess for your pregnancy, please.

Whoever posted that you should set aside your own needs and desires is ridiculous. I was off my prozac (20 mgs) before I got pregnant, and then got pregnant and BAM! Anxiety attacks hit me like a ton of bricks. I was not healthy at all--not sleeping or eating and couldn't go to work. Is that better than no medication? I hardly doubt it. They put me back on it, and while I understand the risks, there is something to functioning during pregnancy rather than suffering. Trust me, I have researched and researched and spoken to experts about this all over the country since I got back on the meds and there is a lot of good information out there that says that the risks of not being on it are much much worse. While this was never my plan, I will not turn back now, and have accepted what I need to do to make it through this pregnancy as best as I can.

So would you rather the mother kill herself while pregnant or get treatment? Obviously you never suffered with depression. Having depression should condemn a woman to become pregnant. Things happen that you cant control abd the stress from beinh depressed is worsr off for thw baby in most cases than not. several doctors said its ok and to make sure im being monitored while on medication.
