Your Pregnancy: Week 17

Though increased blood flow is good for baby, it might be making you a little...damp. Body secretions (think sweat, mucus, nosebleeds, and vaginal discharge) are in full force. This week might also mark the first time you feel baby move inside you, but don't worry if it's another two months before you notice anything. (Or realize that this time, it's actually not gas.)

Baby's now the size of an onion!
Baby's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. His umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes now feature one-of-a-kind prints.

To-do:

> Start planning nursery
> Milestone: Feel first kick
> Go to your checklist

[ tip ] Soothe those awful itchies with an oatmeal soak. Add a cup of fine-ground oats to running bath water. Afterward, pat (don't rub!) yourself dry and moisturize like crazy.

I am not sure if any of you other women are having this problem, but I have chronic aches and pains in what feels like my lower pelvic wall? I don't remember having this much discomfort with my last one...though that was over 7 years ago! I asked my Dr. and she said it is normal....it does not feel normal :(

by mustluvdogs2007

I found that rest and doing my kegals helps. Its been 7 yrs since my last pregnancy too and didn't remember these pains before. Do your kegals and rest a bit more and see if it helps...Its uncomfortable isn't it? Hope your feeling better soon!

by Anij34

Lower pelvic wall? Are the aches off the side a bit? My midwife mentioned the tendons normally holding the uterus in place are being stretched A LOT especially in 2nd trimester, and if your pains are off the the side even a bit, you are probably feeling the stretching. I feel it most after getting out of bed or the car, or anytime I twist at all. Sometimes going from sitting to standing causes the feeling also. Hope that helps!

by GonnaBeMrsKelly

I am having the same problem and my doctor said that it is normal. He told me that when you are pregnant your body basically acts like a treadmill and any problems or injuries you have ever had will come back... times 2!

by AlisonLH48

Anyone having leg cramps? I feel like my right leg is constantly on the verge of a cramp. Yuck!

by chasha

Diddo on the achy pelvic pains and the leg cramps. Feels like my leg circulation is off and my doc says the pelvic pains I'm feeling are the ligaments that hold my uterus stretching. She said the increased weight and my body being off balance may be causing the leg cramps. Massaging your legs help.

by lillove7

I am having the same pains too. On the left side of my bump. At my last check up my dr told me the same thing. It's all that streaching your tummy is going through. I guess the baby does through a huge growth spurt in weeks 16-18. I guess the disscomfort is normal.

by mamakrugler

Hi Ladies, Im really not having any cramps in legs yet. Still exhausted though. We do get to see our baby & find out gender on 28th. SO im very excited since this is my first baby.

by mcoleman1

I wake up every morning to excruciating leg cramps. Always in my calves. I decided to up the banana intake :)

by norquestea

I have the same problem with the achy stomach. Mostly on the bottom and a little of to the sides. I agree with the others... it think it is tendons stretching. Sometimes my stomach actually aches, like I got punched. It can be very uncomfortable.

by sgagnon

I totally have that pain... have you asked your dr? i haven't talked to my dr... im wondering if its growing pains or if its something more serious?

by terrika

My lower back is so sore! Somtimes I just step down and get a shooting pain. Doc says it's pressure on my sciatic nerve, but knowing it's normal sure doesn't make it feel any better!!

by acasey722

Definitely feeling the lower abdomen/side pain, as if I pulled something, but inside. Today, the back pack started as well. It's still really excited but I never realized all the aches and pains I would have!

by rainy721

this is my first pregnancy. i have been having bad pains in my pelvic and in my woman part. i'm urinatng more frequently and it's like every hour a full bladder of pee. is this normal?

by Misschel

I had that too, the Dr. said everything is fine.

by Chica2004

yay i can finally feel it move!!

by MsMea

I'm already starting to have back pain...this is my first pregnancy....and I'm well endowed...and the first month could already see that they were getting bigger...is that the reason why my lower back has been hurting or is it the baby?

by denalynne2003

i've been feeling it move!!! its my first baby and i thought i wouldnt for another while!!! its so exciting!!

by pixystick_08

I had the same cramping... called my dr and the nurse told me to drink more water because I was actually cramping worse after urinating. She said it could be typical 2nd trimester cramps, or I could be dehydrated - which could lead to my uterus cramping or a bladder infection. Just 1 more thing to worry about :)

by sbrannam

I have both major pelvic pressure and leg cramps. I asked the doctor about the pressure and he wasn't worried at all. He thinks it's because my uterus is larger than my pelvis and that can cause pressure. He also suggested getting a pregnancy band. They're supposed to help. As for the cramps, I think water and bananas are supposed to help.

by Stphanne834

Are they similar to what I call, "stabbing vagina pains"? If yes, then I get those. Not chronically. But, I get about two a day and they last about a minute or so. Same with the ligament pain in the sides (though - that pain occured more with my first child - hasn't happened all that much yet). I wouldn't worry too much. But, it's your call. Obviously if you're in pain for more than I'd say 5 minutes with this, and it doesn't go away when you lay down and relax - you might want a second opinion.

by ktjane31381

Oh and for the cramps - bananas bananas. And if that doesn't help then talk to your doc.

by ktjane31381

I don't have pelvic pains or leg cramps but I have sustained quite a bit of back and neck injury over the last few years and I have bursitis in both of my shoulders and all of that is totally flamed up. So I pretty much have a total body ache from the waist up.

by lilcountrypeach

How has weight gain been going? I have stayed the same thus far but my doctor isn't too concerned because I have been eating a lot and no ms.

by MegRog18

I am 17 weeks pregnant and this is my third child. I am feeling aches and pains too in my lower area. I also feel aches and pains in my upper thighs. I kind of think maybe the baby is on a nerve. I'm more nervous because I haven't felt a kick yet and I know I felt much more movement with my other two by this time.

by kimic13

17wks! 23more to go! get to find out the sex Jan 7th! Lots of round ligament stretching pain in the night and I feel the leg cramping they told me to drink more milk...I think it feels like restless leg syndrom...just got over the stomach flu...let me tell you how fun that was NOT...horrid I hope no one else has to go through that...glad it subsided early yesterday...

by Brletich04

anyone experiencing terrible headaches? I have been getting terrible migrane headaches one to two times per week-any thoughts?

by lbi21

I'm feeling the aches and pains too really bad, I almost have to hunch over to make it better! I know exactly how you feel, doesn't feel normal to me!

by miss_braun3

I am having leg cramps. I've started eating bananas to see if that might help. Plus, my hips are so sore I'm walking like I'm saddle sore and I wake up several times a night to switch sides. I tried sleeping with a pillow between my knees, but it didn't seem to help much. Hopefully this won't last for the next 5 1/2 months!!

by Sarahlynn79

I have the aches and pains too. Pressure down low and pains on my sides. I also have this weird restless leg thing going on. It feels circulatory. All normal I'm told.

by beck@beckandchris.com

I have had some problems with leg cramping myself. Often times, a good stretch will help a lot. Stretching on a daily basis increases oxygen flow to your muscles and will help a lot with sore muscles. Hope that helps :)

by mrshodgdon

This is my first baby and I feel pressure also Im also having some leg cramping. I found that switching sides often a night helps and of course eating bananas and drinking plenty of milk for calcium intake. Someone mentioned migraines & headaches I get those frequently and my doctor said Tylenol it works for me. All this is normal part of pregnancy according to my doctor but remember every pregnancy is different. Hope this helps.

by venezolana11

I have definitely been feeling the same aches and pains in my lower pelvic wall as well. I am told that it's normal and as the uterus is growing...There are so many things going on in there getting ready for baby, it's normal to feel the effects of it :)

by katiejobean

I've had all the symptoms that you ladies have described! lol from what I've read, its all 'normal.' This is my first pregnancy so its all new to me. With all the strange stuff going on 'in there' I wasn't sure I'd be able to tell what was the baby moving, and what was my wacked out body, but a few days ago I felt the baby move! :) So cool and wierd @ the same time. :)

by pb7j

I'm really glad to know I am not the only one feeling the pains on my lower pelvic wall- even when the doctor said they were normal, I was still a little bit nervous....

by Jenysecret83

I'm not a doctor and this is my first pregnancy, but I found out I was having round ligament pains. You might wanna look it up. There's no cure for it but at least its not something to worry it about and actually normal. Good luck and feel better.

by razzledazzlemommy

I was having, well I am having the same problem. I don't remember it from my other kid either. She is 4 now. I was told by a dr that its called round tendon stretching or something like that. I am comforted to know Im not te only one that this is new for!!!

by jenn3369

I am seventeen weeks with my second child and going through EXTREME NAUSEA!! Doc advised no prenatal vitamins at the moment because they seemt o make me even worst. They are trying sosmething new called Prima Bella which is like a little watch that tingles and suppose to help stop the reflux..but I still feel soooo bad. Any suggestions?

by ebonie1979

I am a massage therapist and I work at a Chiropractic office. I would suggest that all women start getting prenatal massages. There are special cushions that some or most therapist have that allow you to still lay on your tummy up to the 40th week. They are very comfortable and it is amazing how you feel after a massage. they can even massage your tummy and baby will relax too. Also getting regular chiropractic adjustments helps too. It allows your body to, and women who get regular adjustments and massage tend to have shorter less intense labor. Good luck. Most insurance covers both massage and Chiropractic care. Hope that helps a lot of ladies out.

by SuzanneMClark

I have the same pains. They come and go every couple of weeks. I sit at a desk all day, so it hurts when I get up to go to the printer or move a round a little bit. My husband and I are walking almost every afternoon and it seems that it sometimes feels more pronounced after that. for the headaches, I have always had migraines, so my doctor prescribed Fiorcet for me. Tylenol just doesn't work that well for me. This is our first and I will find out on February 18th what our little one is! Good luck all!

by 1jm_cotton

I was having pain in the lower pelvic wall, then I hit a few prenatal yoga classes, and it magically disappeared. Seriously, it was like night and day. If your o.b. says it's alright, try a yoga class?

by gilliangosman@gmail.com

Can we talk about itchy nipples ladies...does anyone elso have that issue? My doc told me to put lotion on my nipples but I am not so sure about that. Any advise?

by lilmissy73

My last pregnancy was 3 years ago and when my son was 9 mos. old we were in a bad car accident that threw my back all out of whack. so that makes sense, my pains are much worse than my last pregnancy and the stretching of the uterus is more painful as where my first pregnancy just felt like rubber band snaps to my tendons and muscles.

by CrysK86

I am having those too along with headaches and this is baby #2. Its been 6 yrs but i don't remember feeling this bad in the 2nd trimester.

by mattycakes

This is my first pregnancy and I feel like I am experiencing all the "joys" of pregnancy. I am 17 weeks, the cramping has seemed to dull a little but the headaches have definitely picked up ( I used to get migraines before and Tylenol does nothing) but the Fiorecet has helped. I am so glad someone mentioned the itchy nipples b/c they are driving me crazy, even peeling and lotion hasn't seemed to help, any other ideas??

by dec341

I noticed plan a babymoon on the checklist....what exactly is this?

by ryannh

Ugh, my leg hurts! Doctor said I had sciatic pain, which my mother had with me when she was pregnant. That's what I get for working out! :) He said I pulled on the bundle of nerve fibers in my low back and that the pain radiates down the right leg. boo!

by sharylevans

I have discomfort in my pelvic region, from time to time, that feels as if my booty is going to fall out. Haha. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I think this is what you are referring to? I had the same feeling after giving birth to my daughter and was told to do kegals, which really does help! Good luck. :)

by boombacha

Standing quickly seems to trigger a lot of the pulling and aches. The other day i stood off the couch too quickly and it nearly took the wind out of me!

by thegink

I get pains and a loose feeling in the back of my pelvis. The only way to describe the feeling is that "my butt is going to detach itself and fall off"! It's crazy but true. My doctor said that my pelvic bone is stretching and loosening up, getting ready to make room for baby, which makes sense. I too feel it when I get out of bed or if I'm on my feet for awhile which makes it hard to go for long walks.

by sarab81

Do you feel that tickly feeling in your lower abdomen that makes you wanna pee all the time?

by cleo107

I am feeling the same thing! It HURTS! This is my first so I don't know what is normal and what is not. I am also having a weird feeling inside my vagina, like there is a too full tampon or something, it's just pressure. Is that normal?

by Tanzen86

I am having leg cramps too! I get them in the middle of the night on top of going to the bathroom 5 times a night. I have tried everything! Any suggestions?

by southerngirl42107

Hi, Ladies Im 17 wrks and have the same problems, I take tylenol pm and use a heating pad, That helps me alot so try dat and maybe you guys would have a little relieve. I mostly have these pain at night time and it even haves my legs crampd up to where i can't even turn over without wantin to cry. Hope U feel better so

by Ginabeeauitful09

My calves feel like they are about to cramp every once in awhile, which never used to happen before. My Dr. said I should stretch my legs every morning and make sure that I am drinking enough water. I am also getting the pains everyone is talking about and my dr also said it is normal!

by thekellys1231

I'm having the same pains with the same doc answer. i'm just trying to take it in stride... i was worried so the doc checked the heartbeat and all was good so i'm not freaking so badly now.

by EmoDiva

I kind of panicked at first, too. :) I still feel them--weird, eh? I've found that the book, "What to Expect when you're Expecting" to be extremely helpful!!! Helped calm my nerves after experience aches an pains in the lower pelvic wall, etc. Also, Mayo Clinic has a great book as well. Thanks to my Mom and mother in law for the books!

by [MAK]

ITS BEEN 7 YRS SINCE MY LAST ONE AND I FELL THE SAME DISCOMFORT

by ttford8142

I am experiencing a lot of pain with my tailbone. I cannot sit for extended periods of time. I have to get up constantly but that only helps temporarily. Even the drive home is starting to bother my tailbone and it's only a 20 minute ride (sometimes less). I started experiencing these pains around my 16th week. It's my 18th week now. I've heard of back pain but so far...I haven't hear of anyone complaining about tailbone pain.

by moyuen

Has anyone had trouble with their legged buckling? Im always feeling like im about to collapse

by calibarbie06

My OBGYN said the same thing about the tendons, but he also mentioned that since I had endometriosis, that it could be part of it! Makes sense. Endometriosis causes scarring and scar tissue doesn't stretch! But yes, have the same pains!

by DrisMrati

Im 17 weeks and i am not gaining any weight at all i have lost 15 pounds is that normal...

by moni2005

I was having an unusual pressure in my ab area in the center. I went to the doc and he said I have a bit of uterine irritability from the constant growth and the fact that im having twins isnt helping. im 17w2d and my uterus is now where a women carrying one baby would be at 5 months...scary! but he said all the well and to just take it easy.

by milynnt

I had that same horrible pain this morning It'a awful!!:(

by BANJIB25

i dony like onions....but i love my little one.....i want a different referance LOL

by carebearluvr05

My midwife, (and many other moms I've spoken with as well), said that your second pregnancy can be more painful than your first in regards to lower pelvic cramping and whatnot. I definitely have had more aches and pains in my lower abdominal area from the ligaments stretching out. Also Chasha about the leg cramps, I do get those now and again but I've been eating more bananas to help with that. Give it a try. Also walking more can help alleviate those cramps.

by glitteringmoon

moni2005 - I had the same thing happen to me my first pregnancy. Were you a bit overweight to begin with? I ask because the HCG that is coursing through your system can cause you to burn abnormal fat like a crazy woman when you are pregnant. Especially if you started out a little heavy before you got preggers and if you are eating super healthy now. I would talk to your doc though to be sure but with my first baby I actually lost a ton of fat and looked skinnier after she was born than I had it years. It was crazy! My doctor was very pleased with my fat loss and my baby girl was very healthy. :)

by glitteringmoon

anyone try the new at home gender test called Intelligender?

by Joshsangel1009

does anyone have a chronic neck pain? Mine is on the right side and i can't bend my head side to side (ear to shoulder) either way. It hurts so bad, almost like i slept the wrong way, but it's been going on for about 2 weeks now. Any thought, ideas... ? I think it has something to do with not being able to get comfortable at night... but it's not my pillow, i've switched it out a few times trying new ones to see if anything would help. What should i try?

by NSE

I have a lot of problems with the lower pelvic wall, early braxton hicks contractions, back pain, and my my feet fall asleep constantly.

by kitkat0308

I´m having all of the above, though since it´s normal I´m not too fussed; it´s actually quite exciting to me cos it means the little one is growing, or is about to and I´m making space (it´s our first, but my mum remembers quite a lot from her pregnancies and my body is pretty much a copy of hers). Been having cramps forever though (calves, hips, bum), and cos im a backsleeper this side sleeping thing isnt working out too well. Despite the glorious body pillow, I´m twisting and turning all over the place! Though because I walk to and from work everyday (40mins each way) most of the cramps ease out on the walk, I also strech during the night and open up my hips on the fitball in the morning. And swimming!! swimming cures it all! Honestly ladies, swimming 2 or 3 times a week will make such a difference! you will still wake up all achy, but it will subside faster and after a good swim all is where it should be again :o)

by hisnhers

Im having the same symptoms as you, and also my belly botton is hurting me...I dont know why. I think I felt my baby's first move three days ago while watching TV, it felt really strange, but I love it. After that I think he/she is moving more. This pregnancy is completly different from the first one. Looking forward for another wonderful week.

by lissette2002

MUSTLOVEDOGS THIS IS FOR YOU It is round ligament pain, I'm in a ton of pain all the time. It is normal and OK. Take tylenol and don't do any sudden movements. That is what my doctor said.

by dianaleslie

The 'pains' described are probably round ligament pains. Very common in pregnancy and, as someone already noted, due to the ligaments stretching that hold the (expanding) uterus in place. For leg cramps: if you get them at night, try sleeping with a bar of soap (any kind) at your feet. I tuck mine under my fitted sheet. It sounds crazy, but it is an old remedy that works! Pre-pregnancy, I was in sales and wore heels all day. I would get the WORST leg/foot cramps at night, until my mother-in-law (she's British, so I don't know if this is a English secret?!) told me about the soap. Works like a charm! Good luck!

by nov2405

@chasa...the "almost" leg cramps are a killer!

by lynnsey7

I have been experiencing those aches off to the side and was curious about what was happening. Now I know!

by nicolegug@yahoo.com

I woke up last night to throbbing arm cramps in my upper right arm. I thought it would go away, but I'm still in pain. Any advice?

by lauriedelacruz

I have the same problem. my doctor said that it is stetching of ligaments and with my first child I had a c section and the scar can hurt to. they always say as long as there is no bleeding or cramping that not to worry.

by kari21482

1st baby and we get to know the sex in just 6 days! DH and I already want to be able to hold baby but we know the wait is well worth it.

by chicklit828

I'm a father to be and I'm tired of all the above

by Sarahbeara1

Someone mentioned "round ligament pains"? Here's a wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_Ligament_Pain First time my Dr mentioned this it me I looked it up and saved the link :). Oh yes, I too an 17 weeks today! and this is baby number 1, our son ;). We're very excited as well. I am having leg cramps myself, tried the pillow thing, but can't seem to get it to stay comfortable. I usually sleep with one leg over my husband's legs, but since I have to sleep with my back to him now (I sleep ONLY left side now otherwise it is hard to breathe when on my right side. Which by the way, is due to a certain bunch of nerve endings that are primarily toward the right side of your body, per my OB. So it's best to stay on your left side if you can help it). My Mother recently sent me a Boppy "wedge" It's AMAZING! I'm been putting it under what little belly I have that sticks out when I sleep at night and it's made a huge difference! Last week I was getting up every 2 hours at night to pee (as the OB said, I started "peeing for two" since baby's kidneys started functioning). But last night I slept so well I didn't get up one single time! I was also exhausted though because hubby and I hiked a mountain Saturday to get to the" Wrigley Memorial Botanical Gardens" and I desperately needed the sleep to recuperate, lol! Hope this info helps you all like it did for me :). Blessings! E

by JoeErica13

Yes, I too have these pains and doc said it was normal and they also get worse with each pregnancy...this is my fourth baby so needless to say they are really bad sometimes. I also, get pains, "down there" if you know what I mean. Its a very sharp pain thats almost constantly there when I move and walk...this one feels worse to me than the lower pelvic pains. Anyone else having these pains?

by cives1775

The only major issues I've had (other than being 40) is a low lying placenta which causes some bleeding, mostly minor. I have a good chance of having it move up in my uterus. My weight gain has been minimal but I'm a little overweight anyways. I flunked my first glucose test so I have to do the 3-hour test tomorrow. Overall this pregnancy has been met with some early obstacles but seems to be going better than my first pregnancy which resulted in PIH and Preeclampsia, early delivery, NICU..the who nine yards. 23 more weeks to go!

by djtrench1011

Gliteringmoon- Thank you so much for sharing that! I have had the same problem and I was really scared that I was losing all this weight mysteriously. I didn't even have a day of morning sickness my first trimester, so THANK YOU! It is nice to have an explination to the weightloss.

by shibbybabe22

That is totally normal, I just had my appointment this week and that is one major thing that he said would start happening, he said sometimes the pain can be very sharp (even when you cough or sneeze) so dont worry about that, your body is just making room. As for the leg cramps..YESS! I have too, and I think its from the summer months as well, we are already using our muscles for the little bit of extra weight, the humidity isnt helping either..doctor said to just drink plenty of water and stretch at night or in the morning to loosen up a bit. Also, avoid sitting for long periods of time and try to walk and relieve the pressure a bit.

by lhaydon5

I am 17 weeks tomorrow and I am experiencing stomach 'pulls' anytime I get up too fast from the sitting position. I tend to rub my belly with my hand to ease it away. I also have experienced Charlie Horses......these are painful! I am trying to stretch my calves daily to prevent them from occuring again..... any suggestions??????

by fmc1313

I am still not able to post on the boards and its really frustrating me....i keep reading all yalls posts and want to post my own....how do i get up with customer service so that i can fix this problem....

by qtchan37

first case of swollen feet yesterday! not so much fun, prob due to this heat wave we are having up here in the northeast! (but still amazing to see another pregnancy symptom!)

by Jordanathal1

Wasn`t really feeling tired/exhausted up until now. It`s hit me like a ton of bricks. Wondering if its because I`m carrying twins? I`m sure at 17 weeks things are supposed to ease off a bit??? Could cry i`m that exhausted!

by eniloracsekots27

Same here on the pains, just saw my obgyn and she told me to get one of those pregnancy belts/ belly belts and that should help. I'm getting one today and hopefully it will...good luck :)

by mumzyx5

just being curious... how much weight has everyone gained so far?? I'm up 12 lbs... 130 to 142.

by desisone

I've had a few stitches in my side and pelvis. Had a drs appointment today and she said the ones in my side are my ribs spreading to accommodate the baby (a more common problem for slimmer women) and the ones in the pelvis are round ligament pains, the material attaching the uterus to the pelvis is stretching, thickening and getting pulled on.

by LupMar92

I am having that problem too! This is my first pregnancy and I feel it when I twist or sometimes when I sneeze or cough and it hurts!! Its mostly on my sides and lower abdomen but I was told that it's just round ligament pain as your ligaments stretch to make more room for baby. I'm sure after all this when the baby comes it will be all worth it though!

by laurencs2284

Cramps are usually confused by "round ligament pain" - Everything is stretching out, making more room for your sweet baby! It does feel uncomfortable though - I agree :-). It helps to feel the baby move - Cheers me up!

by lantonio888

I've been having those pains mustluvdogs2007 .. HORRiBLE.. I feel like the pain I'm feeling and the discomforts the doctors are speaking about are COMPLETELY different!! Personally, I'm switching doctors because my doctor acts like EVERYTHING is normal. Not to mention I've only had one ultrasound in the past 6ish months + No labs done at prenatal appointments. If you get anymore information on the pains please keep me updated as I'm obviously not going to get any answers any sooner.

by Keiyani

I am having all these same symptoms and they are worse this time than with my first child. Swimming is the best cure... When I start to get super uncomfortable and having tummy pains, I take my noodle and go float around in the pool and it just feels like all the weight and pressure has been lifted and I can just relax for a little while. Other than that I can only suggest a warm bath and a belly band to releieve pressure in the abdomen while the ligaments are stretching. Hope this helps.

by manderz_1

I am having pretty bad leg cramps mostly at night, I haven't had charley horses since I was a kid or in college and drank too much. I find that drinking pedialyte before bed helps a lot and keeps them cramps away

by adisch04

My skin is so dry, it's making me nuts!

by ssennett18

I'm also having these pains... BAD! The doc. says it's round ligament pains. It's just everything stretching- but it does suck, it feels like knifes in there! We'll get through it together :)

by jenniecole

I too have been having lower pelvic pain. My doctor said it was nothing to worry about, just my muscles adjusting to everything growing in that area of my body.

by ginanvictor

It also has been 7 years since my last pregnancy. The only question is my left leg upper thigh goes numb like it's a sleep I keep thinking it's the baby laying on a nerve. It does not happen all the time but has happened more than once. This has been a different pregnancy since my last one I never had nausea with my last one and this one I have but it subsides from day to day and the latest thing is I am starting to get tireder. Thank you and have a great day, Christa

This has been a different pregnancy since my last one I never had nausea with my last one and this one I have but it subsides from day to day and the latest thing is I am starting to get tireder. Thank you and have a great day, Christa

by blessings37

For the lower pelvic wall pain, it is probably your round ligaments (if it is off to the right and left sides). I thought something was very wrong and went in for a checkup and my doctor verified it is simply the ligaments in your ovaries stretching. This happens a lot around 17 weeks because the baby has almost doubled in size.

by katiemmccaslin

17 weeks with my first and feeling good... still tired and randomly hungry at weird times... finding out what we're having in 3 weeks! can't wait to register and start the nursery!!!!

by sallythomson

I am having pains to in my lower abdomin it feels like i am tearing muscle when i stretch, it does not feel normal to me either. but my doctor says it is normal!

by amag22

We got our first ultrasound and it was amazing we found out the sec ( we are having girl) and we saw her move her mouth and it was just amazing.. the developmnt at 17 weeks surprised me i didnt think she was that big already. so excited and ready for her to be here

by schootersgrl01

Yep! I have those pains too! I found that if I'm doing a bit of stretching and relaxation it helps a bit. I'm seeing the OB on wednesday, I'll ask just in case but I do think it's normal.

by Franontheblog

my pubic bone feels like I have been punched there :( and I have been wearing compression hose (YOU HAVE TO DO THIS, your legs feel so much better!) so I am one hot mama right now!!

by leannmarie18

I'm always worried about how I stretch, especially when I get up in the morning. I've never worried about this with my first son, who is now 3 yrs old. I worry more with this pregnancy, because I am considered high risk because of my Grave's Disease. I worry most about my stretching as soon as I wake up. Should I stretch more with my legs then in my stomach? Someone please help me with this. Thanks

by lovingmomma79

For those with leg cramps, my montrice just recommended a combination calcium-magnesium supplement. The magnesium will help muscle cramping, headaches, etc... and the calcium aids the magnesium to absorb into your system. The magnesium sort of acts as a muscle relaxant and therefore, also helps you sleep.

by hcarlon

I have started prenatal yoga about 3 weeks ago and its made a HUGE impact on how my body feels. I was getting bad lower back pain that I was having a hard time moving and walk down steps. Since I started yoga, all that has went away. Of course you'll still have the occasional little stretches in your belly, but nothing like I was feeling. You should check it out. Good luck, namaste :)

by AlainaC80

I was feeling the round ligament pain, because the uterus has to stretch 14 times its normal size and be supported by these ligaments. My coworkers informed me to drink lots of water to help lubricate my joints and tendons and that helps me alot. I feel lots of little kicks too!

by imani180

Pelvic pain/pressure? Yep I'm feeling it! I'm 17 weeks and been feeling it since 15. I'm very small and am finding the stretching and rapid growth of babty is causing more harm than good right now. My advice: stay off your feet as much as possible, avoid stairs, drink plenty of water and stretch as much as possible with safe pregnancy exercises. Good luck ladies!

by buttercub

omg my left leg constantly feels like its asleap i just carnt wate now to feel the baby move

by becky6210

I have the same problem... I get cramp like pains in my lower pelvic wall off and on. My doctor said that it may be too to not hydrating as much as I should. Though I have been drinking plenty of water, since its been hotter he said to drink twice as much as I usually would. &It has helped.

by nhanrion09

moyuen- I have been having the exact pain in the tailbone...hurts to sit for periods of time. I have to drive 6.5 hours to WI and back once a month and its KILLING ME! I don't know how to manage it or what exactly is causing it or what is happening.

by heiringk

mustluvdogs2007....... I have the same.... I believe it;s just the weight of the baby sitting low in our abdomen. I feel better if I take lil 5 to ten minute sittings with my feet up it really helps. Anyone have odd cravings? I don't really crave one thing I find myself wanting anything and everything lol

by rortiz2725

what if you dont feel baby move at this time should i be worried...? when should i worry?

by Jaymama87

I am 16W 4D pregnant with my first. Leg cramps are extremely common in my family in general, and through research with a doctor when I got a big bruise from a leg cramp a while back we discovered that TOO much potassium (ie, bananas) can cause leg cramps too. Keep your potassium AND magnessium balanced to try to avoid leg cramps. (Magnessium is mostly found in fish) I've heard that walking everyday for 30 brisk minutes will help with all the muscle aches as well... I'm still working on fitting that in to the schedule LOL!

by lauren6710

I had back surgery two yrs ago and didnt htink Id ever get pregnant again its been 17 yrs. My whole body hurts with any change in my ruteen.Mostly my lower back left leg and hips. Its horrable.I cant walk for more than a few min with out having to sit down and rest due to my leg going numb.Im worred this wont go away after the baby comes?

by 38christine

I knw exactly how u feel. This is my 2nd child and I've had horrible aches and pains in my lower pelvic area. Dr said its normal and unfortually all we can do is take extra strength tylenol :(

by ashann87

Ok so I am already 17 weeks and Ive felt the baby move @ 16 weeks. I am experiencing lower pelvic pains which is not normal to me. but the problem is I still get crazy morning sickness and non-stop vomiting. so not normal.

by Sblayton215

I had awful charlie horses in my calf muscles with my last pregnancy. They would come in the middle of the night and make me wake up screaming.... This pregnancy, I have achy bones in my pelvis and back. All the joints are loosening and getting ready for baby #2!

by heathelisha

LOL!!! I'm starting to wonder if there is something to that saying "the seven year itch".... My last pregnancy was also seven years ago... As with you guys I don't remember being this sore. However, I was much younger and kind have been blaming it on my age and being pregnant. Thanks for posting about the pain/discomfort as I too had been wondering....

by KarBearC

yes i have had that since the very beginning! My doc also said its normal. It hurts!

by britocakes

yes i have leg cramps all the time, also i get the aches and pains, my doc says it's normal but it just doesn't feel right.. Its been almost 7 years since my last pregnancy, and i don't remember feeling like this at all..lol but then again i was 7 years younger, and of course had a lot more energy.. happy pregnancy to all ;-}

by kerriehoeppel

Having awful legs cramps but only in my right leg at night. I am still soo soo soo tired all the time!! the nausea isnt getting any better.

by countrybeachbum

i am suffering from cramps on my right leg too!!! it is awful but i guess it is normal...maybe we need more vitamins or something lol...also feeling the back pains constantly...it is nice though because it is all part of the miracle of life!!!

by almarosam

@ by lbi21 I have migraines anyway, but they've been getting worse because of the increase blood flow. Ask your doc about fioricet (sp?). It's the only medicine you can take for a migraine while you're pregnant. As far as stomachaches are concerned I am right there with everyone! I feel it bad...and my back too. I remember the leg cramps from my first pregnancy, but have not had them yet (so far).

by TravisB2B

I have had the worst leg cramps all in my calves, to the point where i dont want to get up and walk after

by ElizabethThomas1

I was expecting the pain with this pregnancy... aside from the OB telling me that it will hurt some because of the pelvic bone expanding to allow room for baby, I also found out AFTER my first pregnancy through MRI and spinal xrays that I have bone spurs in the bottom 5 vertabrae of my spine which normally wouldn't be a problem but apparently any weight gain will cause them to flare up... i.e. pregnancy weight. Fun stuff. =/

by ShenaLantroop

It is funny you asked this because I have been wondering the same thing. It has been 9 years for me since my last pregnancy and I do not remember these pains either. Doc says it's nothing to be concerned about but it certainly doesn't feel normal.

i have been having a hard time removing my bowels is that normal...

by audi830

We find out yesterday we are having a GIRL!!!

by gabbbys

So before I got pregnant I never understood the fascination with getting and ultrasound and now it is my very favorite thing! At 17 weeks not feeling movement but to see that ultrasound with all the stretching and wiggling is the best! Found out 2 days ago it is a little BOY and could not be happier!!

by kmedchick

I am 17 weeks preganant and have the pelvic pains/side pains too, they are normal! For the ladies asking about migraines, diddo here! I get them so bad, can only take tylenol boo. but dont worry its normal! For those who still have nausea and vomitting, I HIGHLY suggest preggie pops/lozengens. They work great and you can suck on them all throughout the day. My Doctor also prescribed me Zofran and Phenergran. They are completely safe suring pregnancy and were my life savers durin the times I could not keep anything down. Is anyone getting sick? I started with the pregnancy sniffles abd it has now worked into full blown cold that I cant get rid of. Any one have any suggstions?

by Kreynolds29

It has also been a while since my last pregnancy 9 years to be exact. I have the same issue. My Doc said it is more noticeable with the second and up pregnancies. I to feel that it is not normal but I got extra rest over the weekend and feel much better. Congrats to all ladies hope you all have fantastic pregnancies.

I had the severe abdominal pains the day I hit 16 weeks. It came in intervals and each lasted about a minute. My husband rushed me to the hospital. I thought I was miscarrying. Turns out baby was just fine, and the pain I was feeling was the uterus growing. If that hurt as much as it did, I am afraid of what contractions feel like.

by clove4100

Im 17 weeks and I have the same pains and most likely it is round ligament pain caused by your ligament stretching to accomodate your growing baby

by guysluvme5959

My left side hurts all the time. I randomly get sharp pains in my stomach and sometimes it feels like my stomach is on fire. I didn't have this problem with my son. I am so tired and worn out all the time....still. All I want to do is lay on the couch and sleep all day even though we are trying to move. But I have been feeling the baby kick a lot even though most the time it isn't very hard I can still feel it. On Nov 22 I have my appt. to find out if it's a boy or girl :)

How do I stop anxiety attacks about having a sick baby?? Amnio came back normal but there are some crazy work and family around me that are telling me nightmare stories about still having a disabled child. I know stress is no good for me or the peanut. Anyway to make it stop??

by kat2871

My doctor told me that my uterus was stretching to make room for my growning baby. It has been 15 years since I had my only son and we are so excited that we have been blessed with another child. I am 17 weeks today and we can't wait until the baby gets here!

by asilnna78

WELL lets see, when I was pregnant 28 years ago, with my second, there were no ultra sounds unless you had a problem? We went by months not weeks and yes I had leg cramps, headaches, backaches, constipation, baby legs resting on what seemed to be my intestines... (all normal)!! that was the fun part, 16 years later we taught our children to drive, Now that's when you feel pain!! (lol) enjoy your pregnancies, remember what you are creating is not only complex, but remarkable and wonderfull! Grandma Carole M. New York cpm20

Hi everyone...I too have those painsin my lower abdomen and pelvis. My doctors says those pains are normal. He says that it's mother natures way of letting you know (hey your pregnant! Take it easy.) So since this is my fourth pregnancy! Yeah, I waited 13 yrs to be suprised by this one. I'm feeling more pains now then before, but trying to take it in stride. :-

tingling and numbness in my hands and fingers? anyone else?

by naiak2001

I feel your pain Kristinablazic. I've been experincing horrible headaches as well and will often go to sleep and wake up with them. The one thing that I can recommend is try and drink a little caffeine with two Tylenol and drink lots of water. That usually helps me. Good luck!

by Leahg44@hotmail.com

to mustluvdogs2007 I have also been noticing a slight ache and pain or maybe a tiny pulling type sensation in the same place for a a few days. From what I have read it might have something to do with round ligament pain but I am not sure. I know the feeling doesn't really hurt or bother me but it is just something noticeable that wasnt there before, I have wondered if I should call the doctor but the feeling is kind of hard to describe so I haven't called. I don't really know if its normal or not seeing as this my first pregancy

by dreams3835

does anyone know what is the usual amount of movement to feel at 17 weeks. I have noticed what I am pretty sure is the baby moving over the last week and a half or so but the last day or 2 I haven't really noticed any type of feeling is this normal to feel it sometimes and then not at all for a long time? I know in the next 3 or 4 weeks I can measure it more but whats normal for this stage of the pregnancy?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and we are so excited to find out the sex next Monday the 20th! Great xmas present for our family! :) Need opinions on pregnancy body pillows-what's the best one out there? I've been using just a regular body pillow from Target to try and train myself to sleep on my side (I'm a complete stomach sleeper), but now that my tummy is showing more, ithe one from Target doesn't really do much for my stomach and it's getting uncomfortable. I've been looking at the Snoogle pillow or the Boppy body pillow online. Any suggestions on which to get?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant with twins;) This is my first pregnancy after five years of trying. We had to do the IVF (2nd try) I was put on bedrest due to complications. My best suggestions to all the mommy's to be please rest as much as you can. We had a scared about 2 weeks ago....I'm always on the go and thinking I could be superwoman. Wish everyone the very best...this is going to be a great year 2011.

is anyone else not showing yet? I am 17 wks 3 days and I dont look pregnant. I know people say I am lucky but I am worried. I am a healthy weight, height, 28 years old and I have only gained 1 lb so far. I just want to make sure I am not alone!

by merebabe6

I've been having trouble breathing. I was at work the other morning and it just hit me out of nowhere. I was on the phone and I could barely speak I felt so winded. A couple of times I felt I was going to pass out so I went in the back and tried to sit for a little bit to see if it would help. I'm sure it's normal but it doesn't feel normal for me, not being able to breath is a scary feeling! If anyone else is experiencing the same thing is there anything that's helped you?

by BigMommy88

I experienced the lower pelvic pains and when i talked with my doctor she said i was having round ligament pains its the tightening of the pelvic muscles and the uterine muscles it happens to me when i get out my car or squat or lay wrong. But the best way i get rid of mine is relax for a moment and the sharp pains usually subside.

by southern03

They are normal round ligament pains i freaked out too..

by southern03

I feel those little flutters in my belly. Back pain is less. Pelvic pain sometimes, it almost feels like my pelvics is too low. Does that make sense to anyone?

by msmandia1

Solution: see a chiropractor! It's important to find someone who specializes in prenatal care, but oh, sooo worth the search. My back, neck, and legs were KILLING me, and since going to my chiropractor, everything feels soooo much better. Not perfect, of course- I still have another person sitting on my bladder, after all! But seriously, look for a chiropractor, preferably one with certified in the "Webster Technique"- you will be so glad you did! (And, my insurance even covers it! Woohoo!)

by april012

As far as the aches and pains go...my doctor said its natural I am having the same aches and pains and she said that it is probably just tendons and ligaments pulling and stretching...I am expecting twins and they have been killing me! Sleep helps or ice packs help a lot!

Exercising should definitely help with the circulation issues as well as stretching. If you are not sure what exercises and stretches are safe, please talk to you doctor. I have an Exercise Sports Science degree and have been working out 5-6 times a week and that is helping with the aches and pains for sure. Even 30-60 minutes of walking a day will help your body as well as your mind. :)

by MindyLea1210

OMG, I'm so happy I read this! I just came from the doctor today because I thought I was dying. My pain is only on my right side though. It's great having this board to read.

by bmangum06

it's my second pregnancy also, though my first is turning 12 in a month...i get those pains, too, and my doctor says they're normal stretching of the muscles and tendons. didn't get any with the first baby (that i can remember) but my doc says that's normal, too.

I feel for everyone here. I am also 17 weeks with my first. My nasuea is not getting better and I am tired all the time. I started getting charlie horses too. Yes, yes, the itchy nipples drives me nuts. Anyone feel more anxious? My anxiety has been acting up more the 2nd trimester?

getting all aches and pains too.

this is my second baby and it is a complete difference from the first time around...my first preg. was soooo easy no problems.i am 17 weeks now and.this time i am uncomfortable constantly. I have the round ligament pain and sciatic pain very frustrating having all that and chasing a 3 1/2 yr old. But its worth it. Frustrating the husband doesnt understand that this time isnt as easy as the first time around

by aeg5612

is anyone having semi sharp pains on your side/back like under ribs? this just started and it comes and goes.... Very odd.

by dezzii

To Misschel; as far as the peeing goes, you are lucky you are only peeing once an hour. Wait until you get a little further and it will be every 20 minutes!! Good luck to you. I have been having the same pain in my peliv area, it feels like it is stretching and it is the absolute WORST!! And now, my lower back aches so much. This is my 3rd baby and I am questioning it everyday. I forgot how much pain and discomfort came along with it. I just remembered the life changing outcome, which couldn't get here quick enough! Good luck to you all!!

just had my monthly appointment yesterday at exactly 17weeks. although i feel (and i think look) like i've gained 10+ lbs. I've actually only put on 2! So weird how much your body can change without gaining wait. got to hear the heart beat for the first time -- baby was moving all around - so fun! I go back in two weeks (on valentines day) to find out the gender! i'm so excited!

by McBaby1

and by "wait" i really meant weight! ;)

by mewflower

Ditto on the lower abdominal pain, midwife said it was round ligament pain and was absolutely 100% normal

by CocoBrynne

moyuen...could be a hemorrhoid that is not pleasing to hear but i had the same problem with my second pregnancy.

by mrsdubble

For the itchy nipples- I'd recommend a thick lotion like A&D diaper ointment or Aquaphor, a Eucerin product. The former can be found in the baby aisle, the latter in the lotion section. For leg cramps- take a warm shower and massage your muscles! I like to take sitting down showers, so I can relax without raising my body temperature too much by sitting in a bath. For headaches- Tylenol does NOTHING for me, and it's really the only thing you can take while pregnant. Sometimes, if you speak with your doctor about chronic migraines, they will prescribe a migraine medication. I'm not doing this with this pregnancy, because I am high risk. Instead, I try to get my viscious migraines to go away by turning off the lights, putting a heating pad to the back of my head and a warm cloth over my eyes and sinuses, and then, once I'm relaxed, massaging the area where my head connects to my neck, and my neck to my shoulders. I have also heard the great idea of taking two tennis balls, putting them on a sock, and lying on the floor with the balls on either side of your neck. You can then use them like a massager and apply as much or as little pressure as you want.

by DuckE3

I too have had round ligament pain -- isolated to my lower left side at first and now in my lower abdomen. I went to the doc, and she said everything looked fine --just baby stretching and growing. We had a 3-D ultrasound Sat and found out we're having a girl! We were so excited that we put our entire nursery together last night. If your anxious or worried about your baby, I would suggest getting a 3-D ultrasound with your doc's permission. It really eased my mind to see her in there looking happy and moving around. We went to a local place that just does those 3-D u/s and they charged way less than the OB -- $99 for a 1 hour session with photos, cd and a dvd, when the OB would charge $250 for one picture.

by nataliejm28

I have pains to this pregnancy that i didnt have with my daughter they almost feel like charlie horses, the doctor says it is because i am having twins and eveything is stretching so fast.

by violetmikeandrachel

I went to the ER on Saturday due to horrible pains in my belly button and on my right side of my abdomen. It felt like needles were being poked out of me form the inside.? If that makes sence? The ER doctor said it was probably Round ligament pain. This is the first time I've ever had pain like that and after reading all my baby books, I would of never guessed the pain that can cause. Plus being a first time mom, I'm sure there's so much more to come.. But it's all worth it :) Can't wait to meet my little man!

by mommytobe32

ughhh... I fell on some black ice today! I landed on my bottom and elbow and my right hip hurts.Ouch! Right now my only option is standing up or lying on my left side. I want nothing more than to lay on my stomach again. Ladies in the north be careful out there!!

by margoto

For those of you that have leg cramps or headaches for that matter try running the cramp area over warm water and grab yourself a glass of milk.( or have a shower I find it really helps rather than reaching for a Tylenol if you have a headache).I found that really helps for me. This is my fourth pregnancy. I am 39 and I am 17 weeks along so far no cramps but I find now it has been 8 years since I have been pregnant I think I am not shaking this ill feeling probably has to do with the fact that I am older now. I only had a bit of morning sickness with my first born only daughter and no morning sickness with pregnancy 2 & 3. Maybe I'm having a girl but I think it has to do with age?

by Tanya850

Im not sure how old these posts are but the best cure for leg cramps is downing a small glass of milk. Usually works within minutes, its been my lifesaver!

by emilya14

This is my first baby and my first trimester went well with no morning sickness and only mild headaches. Just as I began getting comfortable in the 2nd trimester I started to have really bad lower back pains and my legs hurt when I walk. My doctor said that this is normal and just use heating pads. I am trying to stay active but I dont want to be in pain and I hope this doesn't lead to me having to be on bed rest.

by topaz1908

I'm 17 weeks today and for the last couple of days I've been experiencing aches in my lower pelvic region. It's not super painful, just more uncomfortable. It happens mostly when I've been sitting at work for a while and I stand up to walk. Also, the other night I got out of bed and out of nowhere I got a nosebleed. It kinda freaked me out, but I guess with the increased blood flow it's a normal prego symptom. Lastly, does anyone have any suggestions on how to relieve hip pain? Sleeping on my sides has really been a challenge for me and I'm constantly tossing and turning to relieve my hip pain. Body pillows aren't helpful at all. :-(

by Kimpyj

I have also had the "pains in my pelvic area", literally feels like the ligaments are tearing apart, mosting on the sides when I turn in the bed or try to sit up. Dr. says its ligaments stretching. Sciatic Nerve is miserable, attempting a pre-natal massage as I've heard they are very helpful...on leg cramps too:)

by tacoflaco

im 17 weeks today and i've gained 11 pounds!! im 5'6' and pre-pregnancy i was 131 and now i feel like a cow! i still work out 4-5 times a week and eat pretty healthy, i dont know why im packin on the pounds so much. its really concerning! anyone else is the same boat??

by Kmaxwell6

Yes! I've been experienceing posterior pelvic pain for the last two months. I've been working with my trainer to strengthen my leg and butt muscles and engage and strengthen my core muscles (without laying on my back) to protect my back. Walking helps a lot, so does a heating pad at the end of the day. I've also started sleeping with a pillow between my knees at night, and not sleeping on my back, which has helped subside it quite a bit. Good luck!

I am 17 weeks and my lower back is killing me. anyone else having back pain this early? I also think its weird because I don't feel like my belly is big enough to be causing pressure on my back. hmm

by tamahawk24

I get the same pains. This is my 3rd baby & never felt these lower pelvic pains before. Dr.also told me it was normal but that dehydration could bring on these pains. I brought up my water intake & the pains have gone down alot. Hope this helps! :) Congrats pregos!

by MyLovesAFairytale

Has anyone had their pelvic bones separate yet? Mine did over 2 weeks ago (I was 15 weeks then). They prescribed PT. Basically said it wont go away til birth and to try to manage it as good as I can. Stairs kill me-I can feel my bones grinding! Anyone have any ideas of what I can do to alleviate this horrible pain?

by oconnor1207

The only thing I'm weirded out by right now is the lactation, I thought that wasn't supposed to happen for a few more months.

by FemNik214

I have only gained 2 pounds and im 17 weeks, is this normal? thanks

by AMURILLO11

I am getting little cramps in my lower belly every now and then but the most annoying thing are these dull headaches I am getting...I am waiting for my energy to come back but with these headaches all I want to do is take a nap.

by kwosnuk

17 weeks today and I am still not showing :( just look a little chunky!! 150 starting weight and 152 now

by ashleykennedy1010

having a great 17 weeks baby move more and more every day

by loveshawn

Hi moms! Does anyone out there have swollen lymph nodes under their armpits? My OB said it was normal but my right armpit has been soar and swollen for 2 months now!

by annemariemonaghan

I also had horrible stomach pains and I'm just 16 weeks. It usually felt like stretching aches around the sides of my belly, but the past few days it was sharp pain in my lower right of my belly near my hip bone and it was really tender to the touch. The Dr. ruled out anything serious and said she thought it was a herniated tendon...

by 08ashley16

Now I feel a whole lot better knowing what those lower aches and pains are. I was starting to worry but I guess its just part of the process.

by erehernandez

ive been feeling the baby alot for the past three days! yipeeee!

by beefonder

I wouldn't call it cramps. It feel like my lower abdomin is tensing or tightening up and it feels uncomfortable. Otherwise I'm great!

by Peta23

I am on my 4th pregnancy and I can tell you the cramps and aches only get worse with each, the tendons still strech and everything else too! seems more tender each time.

by CarrieAnne0520

Just made 17 weeks yesterday, but three days ago, DH felt baby kick from the outside! Really cool!

by laurenmayala

I seem to have more pain on my right side, lower back and buttocks and sometimes my outer thighs and butt feel sore, even though I walk most days of the week. I'm having more sinus troubles now that spring is coming and occassional headaches and what's really weird is that I feel more tired now than I did in the first Trimester. I can sleep like 12-14 hours (somewhat dozing-but still)!

by kribble2002

i gained 20 pounds in a month but i was under weight is that bad

by j=c

ummm....I noticed today that there is something (I'm assuming milk) coming out of me already....I'm only 17 weeks and am thinking this is a bit early? Anyone else have this????

by kocianjenn

My previous c-section was 5 years ago and I have been feeling the same way. I noted to my doctor that I don't remember being in this much pain with my last one and he said unfortunelly I have alot of scare tissue that is ripping and tearing as my utrus is growing!!! Just have the comfort knowing that your not the only one going through this and I hope we both feel better very soon!!

by TiffanyB0801

This is my first baby, and I am 16wks and 4 days according to ultrasounds. They asked me if I felt the baby kick yet, and I havent. I've been skinny all my life, I weighed 130 at the beginning of my pregnancy, the ob/gyn said that since Im skinny I might not feel it, but the ultrasound tech @ the hospital said I should, but my baby is fine. Is it normal for skinny girls not to feel kicks yet? My baby weighed 5oz yesterday and was moving a whole lot. I just cant feel it. i even put my hands on my stomach to feel and I dont feel anything.

by MinickMommy11

This is my second pregnancy and everything is different. I'm having problems sleeping because I can't seem to get comfortable and then when I do, I wake up because I have to go to the potty. Any suggestions?

by msjudge81

@chasha -I am having serious leg cramps too. Doing the slightest housework, I have to stop ever so often and lie down.

by dmighty1

I've been feeling movement since week 10. This is also my first baby.

by gwenm1027

My hands and feet are already swollen. Some days I can't even get my ring on. I can't imagine how thats going to be in the dead of summer with the humidity. I talked to my dr about it and she's not concerned. She said its not preeclampsia and I shouldn't worry. Any ideas of how to cope or help?

I am 17 weeks today and will find out the sex on May 12th. I'm having cramps in my lower abdomen and leg cramps. Seems pretty normal from what everyone keeps saying. It is nice to see other women feeling the same way that I am feeling. My husband just says "call the Dr."!

by titlegirl1024

I too have horrible leg cramps! I had them with my first and now with my second. The biggest lifesaver for me as been Mustela's Instant Comfort Legs massage lotion! You can find it at Babies R Us, Destination Maternity, and I'm sure anywhere else that sells maternity products. I apply the lotion morning and night from my ankles to knees and the relief is amazing! My midwife also prescribed Maternity Support-hose for when I'm on my feet for several hours at a time... This also helps significantly. And of course, drinking LOTS of watter and making sure you're getting plenty of nutrient helps too!

by NMThacker

I have the same thing! it's a bit like a cramp, it come quickly and then disappears. My Dr. also said it's nothing to worry about! :)

by Zobert

I dont know about anyone else, but has anyone felt and seen their baby kick. Im just at 17 weeks and his foot popped out my side the other day. And if you stare at my stomach you can see him move. I though that wasnt suppose to happen this soon though. I think it might have to do with the fact that because Im walking and eating healthier Ive lost 12 lbs in 4 months too. I dont know, is anyone else experiencing this?

by nessiega

My hips and shoulders are so sore every morning I wake up from only sleeping on my sides. I'm scared that if sleeping is already this uncomfortable, I'm going to be miserable when I'm big!

I strongly recommend that you see a Chiropractor to help with your lower back aches and pains (including pelvic and legs). I received Chiropractic care during my 1st pregnancy and even now with my 2nd pregnancy.

I have felt the pains also. My midwife explained that I prob did not feel it in my first pregnancy bkz the muscles are basically still strong and tight. After the first pregnancy, since those muscles have already been stretched (majorly), they do not go back to their original state so they are more loose after that first pregnancy. The aches and pains down there are coming from them just not being as strong to hold everything together as they were the first time around. Hope this helps! She said if it last more than 5 minutes to call them, but mine usually go away in 30 seconds or so.

by tinad75

Yup, I am having the same problem with pressure and achiness in my lower left side. I am pregnant with twins so may be double for me. Dr said it is normal there is not much they can do just rest and drink a lot of water.Man it does hurt sometimes though.

by lacandmac

I had bad leg cramps with my first son. I wasn't getting enough calcium. After upping my calcium intake through supplements everyday they went away and didn't come back unless I forgot to take my calcium. I'm noticing with my second pregnancy, I'm so busy running after my 2 yr old, that I forget to take it as often and I notice a difference in my legs. Citrical Maximum worked best for me because you can take it on an empty stomach and not get sick.

by boysmommy

if i lay in bed to long ill get sickk but if i get up ill also get sick. seems like every morning i have to throw up or ill feel yucky till i do

by MOMMYheartsYOU

I am 17 weeks and am very uncomfortable when i sleep. My hips hurt so bad when i sleep on my sides and i try not to sleep on my back. i got a body pillow and put that between my legs and that seems to help alot. I have felt the constant dull cramps as my insides are stretching. That is very annoying. we find out next week what we are having and i can't wait

by colleen7282

We got to see the baby yesterday! It was amazing! I had been having gallbladder issues and had a abd ultrasound and asked if they would take a peek at the baby. The baby had its little fingers all fluttering in front of its little face and was flipping and kicking like crazy! I am 17 weeks today and we find out the gender the first week of june... I cant WAIT :D

by bekawood

I have pain by my tail bone and my hips hurt at night. It feels better when I lay on my back or stomach but I really can't do that anymore. :(

by SAGsoon2bSAJ

mustluvdogs - im having the same thing... it comes and goes, but seems like its more often then not... sometimes if i press lightly on my lower pelvic region (even in the center) it hurts and feels almost sore to the touch, but if i shift my position, it was go away... thoughts? comments? concerns?

by lyndshoule1017

Congratulations to all of you! My husband and I are expecting our first child in October, I am 17 weeks and we go for our next ultrasound on the 25th of May cant wait to find out the babies gender. My Mother and MIL both wanted to attend the US with us which i am completely fine with it is my mothers first grandchild, However my husband would rather it just be the two of us when we find out and then said they are more than welcome to come to anything after that us. Has anyone else had this issue, I completely understand where my husband is coming from but at the same time feel bad for both of our mothers but my mother understands and is happy that he is so involved. Also I was wondering how many US are normally done or is this it?

by SONNIEJ

I'm 17 wks and have gained 2 lbs (after losing 7 lbs). 1st pregnancy. No kicks yet. I had excruciating lower back pain in my sacral region which worsened with walking and laying on my back. I had an awesome prenatal massage and did a prenatal yoga class and the pain disappeared!!! I'm going to keep up with the yoga and massages because I'm sure the pain will return as I start to gain weight and continue to grow. If you're in Los Angeles, the massage therapist is Leah Miller and yoga at Silverlake Yoga. Good luck!!

by aemunoz

omg im so exited :) this is our first baby and we get to find out what it is on June 3rd...CANT WAIT im hoping for a boy :D

by MariahBrooklynn

me too- noticed the cramps/pains this morning and freaked out a little, but relieved now to see this post!

by cbragg1

I love feeling my baby move! I listened to the heartbeat again a few days ago and the little one was very active! How exciting!

by aprilcynda

This is my third pregnancy and I can say this is the most uncomfortable so far. Guess its because I'm chasing after two toddlers. Anyone have any advice about extremely itchy skin?

by jessida8810

@Mustluvdogs --- It's either your uterus moving up and out of your pelvis (it causes cramps) or round ligament pain. The ligaments are stretching and thickening to support the growing baby. :) Also, my baby keeps kicking me in the ovary because of where my uterus is this week. LOL It could also be something like that. My guess is it's normal-- but if you're uncomfortable with accepting that, CALL YOUR DOCTOR! :)

Is there anyone else that has sneezing problems? My doctor told me only to take benadryl, but in the past I used zyrtec for my allergies, what is wrong with zyrtec now.

by Shamoo17

I have had side pains on both sides...thought it was a kidney infection at one point. I woke up this morning and it has gone away. I have had every "bad" symptom with this pregnancy. My other two were not like this at all. It's been very fun and tiring, hoping with my second trimester that things work out...not having morning sickness as much but now I have heartburn pretty bad :) Yay! I am now 17 weeks and am really starting to show. Almost can't wear regular clothes anymore....maternity clothes feel more comfortable for my growing belly. I can't squat to get things in the lower cabinet without feeling like calling in a trackhoe to hook me up so I can stand up again (lol). Good luck to everyone out there on your pregnancy and delivery!

by dkittsep

Have pain issues that are from before the preg. A bulging disc in my lower back and fascia issues. Feeling the baby move a-lot. This is my third so I can't mistake those movements for anything else. Hoping to find out the sex on the 9th of June.

by krogerson1

The lower abdomen/side pain is called "Round Ligament Pain" and is perfectly normal. Round Ligament Pain generally refers to a brief, sharp, stabbing pain or a longer-lasting dull ache that pregnant women commonly feel in the lower abdomen or groin, starting in the second trimester. If you suddenly change position, such as when you're getting out of bed or out of a chair or when you cough, roll over in bed, or get out of the bathtub. You may feel it as a dull ache after a particularly active day — when you've been walking a lot or doing some other physical activity. I would contact your doctor if your pain is different than described.

I'm 17 weeks today and feeling great so far. The biggest thing I've noticed over the past couple days is an itchy belly button! No movements yet, as far as I know...I'm pretty sure what I'm feeling is still just gas :) I'm still going to the gym 5x week and am feeling good other than being hungry 24/7!

by snowgirl0429

my dr warned me of sharp ligament pain! she said completely normal.

by Amanda Harvey

i'm so glad its not just me thats achey and hurting . Its been 4 yrs since my last pregnancy and i dont rember all these aches either espacilly at 4 and half months. but like everyone else my doctor says it normal and its probably that round ligment pain .

by msjewell0211

On my second appointment the doctor informed me the I was R negative and said I would be needing some shots. He didn't give me anymore than that, so I did a little research. I am now 17 weeks along....any clues as to when I'll be getting those shots? I'm trying not to worry and be spastic about every little thing, but I'm new at this and want to make sure I'm getting the best care I can. Anything will help!

Is anyone having aches in their joints, mainly their ankles? When I get up from laying down I'm barely able to walk because my ankles hurt so bad. After walking around for a minute they feel back to normal. Is anyone else experiencing this?

by AprilWR6

Last week I had the multiple-marker blood screening. I struggled for weeks because friends warned me about the mixed results of this test. Now it came back with an elevated risk & I'm sad & panicking. I go for a level II ultrasound on Wednesday. I'm just wondering if anyone else decide to get or not to get this bloodtest?

by JenR33

Wow......... you ladies are amazing! I had so...many question regarding my pains on the left side of my bump, especially when I twist to my sides. All my answer were found here. Thank you so much :)

by travieza82

One thing I have found that help with the muscle cramps in the legs is to straighten your leg and pull your foot towards you. I had one this morning and that's what I did to stop it, also I have not been drinking a lot of water the past 2 days and that's when I have gotten the muscle cramps. That is the first time I have had them at all during my pregnancy and I'm 17 weeks and 1 day. I hope this helps you all out.

by BKbass09

sciatic nerve pain? I had this BAD BAD BAD - I went to see a prenatial chiropractor... She cahnged my life! I would totally reccommend seeing/talking with one if you are having sciatic nerve pain... Mine was so awful I couldnt get out of bed or walk straight - now I feel better than before I was prgnant. Trust me, it is worth exploring (and I was never a chiropractic-believer, this was my first trip to see one)

I have those pains too! I'm having twins so I feel like my stomach already weighs a ton! and Those stretching pains are horrid! But on a good note, I'm Feelin the babies move alot!

by potter.ashlyn

OK I was so relieved to log in today and see all these comments about aches and pains. I seriously almost went to the ER the other morning bc I was having nagging pains in my lower pelvis area. But I decided to just calm down, drink some water and lay down for a bit and the pains did subside. This is my first pregnancy so I wasn't too sure what was going on down there. But I'm glad to know now that these aches and pains are pretty "normal". I too have also been doing yoga and I find that it has been helping a little bit.

by aschambers85

I am having the same aches and pains. And I am like you I dont remember this with my 1st one....not this early on any ways!

by ashcz2it

i have been feeling my baby move since i was 13 weeks

by saju9707

yep, I am having the same pains. They feel like a chalee horse but in your lower tummy. I cant move or breath when I get these, also lower in the pelvic area same thing. And yep my doctor says its normal. We are stretching our body is getting ready for the big day. And also doesnt help that Im getting older. Im 33 on my 3rd my 2nd and 3rd are a little closer than my 1st and 2nd.... 12yr apart ;) I have been doing some light swiming and it helps. I choose light swiming because its too hot to walk in this Texas weather lol Doctor cant say anything...its excersize right?

by nhlrem96

Any other mommies to be around 17 weeks feeling like you are in a "funk"?

by Jessica Cooper

My pubic bone aches all the time. Almost feels like a tennis ball that weighs like a bowling ball pushing out from the front. I wonder if the bone widens to make room for babys entrance into the world... oh, P.S. this is my second pregnancy and the last one was almost 7 years ago, too!

by clgr74

Im having alot of pain in my knees..is that normal?

by pcarothers

Hi, I'm not actually pregnant, my daughter is. She lives 3,000 miles away from me and I don't get to talk to her as much as I'd like to. I thought this would bring me a little closer to how she and the baby are doing. It's been 39 years since I was last pregnant and things have changed a lot. I hope you don't mind me joining the group.

by mandas mom

I am having problems with aches and pains on the lower level too. And my last child is 7 also. Yeah its normal... when it gets a little tuff I just take a walk and a tylenol and lots and lots of water....

by MsSheena2U

17 wk 5 day and still no pains (thanks God) because I have been one of those unlucky people who still have morning sickness even now. However this week has been full of changes. Because I have been so sick, I wasn't gaining any weight and didn't look preggo, but this week I feel like I have gained a ton. It actually only been 3 pounds, but it feels like a lot. I am so bloated. Anyone else always boated and constipated?

by Mary Berger

What if the pains are right up under your ribs, like in your diaphragm? Cuz i've gotten lower abdominal cramps but these are way higher up and they don't go away for a really long time. I'm a first time mom and it's freaking me out, any "veterans" know what's going on?

by jazzy2012

Anyone else feel like they get out of breath easily? I get up and do housework, but by the time I sit down I feel like I just ran a mile. I know it isn't anything serious like a blood clot, but just want to make sure I'm not going crazy and this is normal.

by Jamie80s

I thought that it was just me with the aches and pain more in my lower back. My feet all so look like balloons I asked my dr about that because I thought it was 2 early for my feet to swell but she said it could be just the heat.

by shamicamom

It has also been 7 yrs since my last pregnancy and I experience the same aches and pains from time to time. My doc says that the baby sits lower your second time around because the uterin muscles are not as tight as they were before so that may contribute to the aches. Also the fact that you're 7 years older than you were when your last child was born has something to do with it as well. Just rest and do kegals like the others said and as long as not contractions or bleeding then you should be ok

by jana83

So far so good, I do get those cramps when I get up real fast or change positions while sleeping. We have our a/s in 2 weeks, can't wait to find out what we are having.

by lmanchen

im 16 weeks now , not put no weight on when do u show .doctor say all ok i just want a bump

by nicolelouisewright

Yes I've been having ligament pain as well, usually left sided. I've also been having occassional leg cramps. My doctor told me the leg cramps are actually due to lack in calcium and not potassium like most ppl think. I always grabbed a banana as well when feeling these...no wonder it didn't seem to work. My biggest complaint, however, is the pain in my hips, especially my right one, feels like arthritis if I I had to describe it. Keeps me tossing and turning at night, drives my man absolutely nuts! lol Also, I've already had a couple of Braxton Hicks contractions...the first one brought me to my knees. Mentioned it to my doc and he told me since this is my third pregnancy, it's not unusual to have them this early. Very relieved to know, it actually rly scared me. lol

by VMichonski

This is my 2nd pregnancy, my daughter is 7 ½ months old. This time they called and said that my blood levels show that the baby may have Down Syndrome. I don’t want to have an amniocentesis done and I’m still waiting to hear about a scheduled 2nd stage ultrasound. Down Syndrome doesn’t run in my side of the family or my boyfriends side. They said it is less than 1% that the baby will be born with Down Syndrome and it could be a false positive. Has this happened to anyone else? It wouldn’t make me love my child less, I just want to know ahead of time.

by CorinneHay4

i must say that i felt this babys kick faster than i did with my first child.. ive been lucky too be able to feel him or her move everyday for almost two weeks now..i couldnt be happier

by lolis01

Minor aches and cramps are normal. anything severe is not. If its your pubic bone hurting severely like if you cant roll over while sleeping then it may be Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. which is not uncommon. Kegel excercises help but you just have to deal with it until after birth.

by dinosaurpiratepenguin

I woke up with a charlie horse a couple of nights ago and that was the first time. I do feel the cramping when I bend and then lift up and my right hip has started hurting more (something that was off and on before pregnancy). I am well endowed and have started noticing the occasional pain in my breast - brief and then it goes away. Anyone else had this ... weird.

by melonhead

Just started feeling flutters 2 days ago!! Such a beautiful feeling. Also joined a mami group so that I can find women who I can relate to.

by whoknowswhat

Thanks or such great advices here. I was searching for some nice advices for my pregnant wife and I found them here luckily. I will definitely bookmark your website and get back there soon. Thanks! Regards, Chris from cialis 5 mg

by Chris8888

I saw my doc last week and he said it was not possible to feel the baby move yet, but I am certain that I have. I think maybe he's just a skeptic...lol.

by kris crisp

I am 17 wks and I have been getting a lot of cramping lately. I thought it was just because I had to pee but it stays there. The only thing that seems to help it a little bit is sitting in a warm bath. Is any one else getting this or is it just me :(

by Ash8786

The ligaments that hold the uterus in place are call round ligaments and as the uterus grows, it pulls on those ligaments and causes "cramping" like symptoms. I get them if I move too fast in bed or something like that. They say that if it goes away, no problem but if it doesn't after resting or waiting a moment to move again, go see your doc/midwife.

by toyz44

I asked my Nurse Midwife about the leg cramps because I almost got one last week in the morning. She said it's a lack of potassium and/or calcium, which makes sense because this trimester is when the baby's bones are forming. She suggested bananas and Calcium supplements (Tums). So I'm hoping that will help.

by mardukes

how do you change your due date?

by Jhart09

@Chasha When i was in my first trimester I had very bad leg cramps that went up my leg and through my butt muscle.. and it was very painful.. But it has stopped now in my second trimester I don't have them anymore. I told my doctor, and she said that it is normal. She told me what it is called but i forgot.. It will pass just becareful standing up!

by Ladigogetta

I have been having the same issues. I actually got really worried and went to the doctors because it was hurting so badly. And I was told the same thing. Its normal and its just the stretching. I still have them and worry but everyone I have spoke to have said its very normal. :)

by MrsFennell2010

Yeah, the abdominal pain in the sides of your abdomen are round ligament pains. You will also get them in your vagina. I call the vagina pains "lightning crotch". The abdominal pains I have been getting since long before I was ever pregnant. I thought my ovaries were exploding it hurts so bad. :(

by ncjc101010

well so far so good !im feeling good although my days get cut short tired earlier, but then i have nights that im up at like three wondering why am i awake but i guess just part of the motions,i do feel the sharp pain its not to bad.i feel my stomach growing its kinda hard to just get up like i used to,its kinda funny it almost makes me feel old.lol

by MAR2366902

Does anyone else have circulation problems? I wake up everyday with both my arms "asleep"!

by artum2003

I've had these same pains... especially when I sneeze or cough. My doctor said those pains are normal, too. Boy do they hurt though!

by acorlew7

Lately my right arm and my legs will go numb on me. My carpal tunnel has been killing me! My doctor says that my arms and legs will get numb because I'm gaining too much weight... are you kidding me?! I barely eat! With my first pregnancy I didn't get any numbness but this is ridiculous. Anyone else get this?

by katalyst021

We went for our 18 wk ultrasound and the technician said "Oh I just saw what you are having, do you want to find out if its a boy or a girl" At this point we are still having fun guessing- so for now we leaving it a mystery. But are we jumping to conclusions that we think its a boy becuase she "by chance" caught a glimpse of something and saw the gender of our baby? Is it easier to see if you're having a boy vs a girl?? So question, Is anyone else getting yeast infections like crazy? I've had 3 now, and at first they just had me use Monostat, which seemed to help, except the part about it coming back again and again. Now they're having me take a couple of pills every three days, and that's not working either....I'm so itchy and uncomfortable! Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?!

Yess....I am pregnant with my fourth and I am experiencing the same pains and I was saying myself that I also didn't remember these pains with the others either. My last pregnancy was eight years ago, but I was also a whole lot younger with my other children. Not sure why it seems as though alot of things are happening for the first time or seem brand new....This is not my first rodeo....LOL

With my first pregnancy which was two years ago & now five months along with baby #2, I am experiencing what I can best describe as "a 50 lb bowling ball sitting in my uterus." My whole pelvis aches, my legs throb & at some points during the day I can barely find the strength to walk. Honestly...despite all the diagnoses from 4 different OB/GYNs, support pantyhose & lying down with tons of pillows tucked under my bum/thighs has been the best. Of course, there's that pressure like you feel like you got kicked in the crotch--but I am talking when it almost gets debilitating. Best of luck to you! We pregos got to stick together! Elevate & look forward to celebrating! :)

How do u gals sleep at night?! Omg! It's so uncomfortable now from the back pain to getting tired of sleeping on my left. I'm just so restless because I can't get comfortable! Any suggestions for a better night sleep? I miss sleeping on my tummy!

I think I've got enough magnesium on board not to get the cramping - my naturopath has me on several things targeted towards my brain health while I'm pregnant and that doubles as a muscle relaxer. I haven't had to do Epsom salt baths yet, but I can feel the tightness in my deep butt muscles and down the sides of my legs so I stretch regularly by dangling one leg at a time off the bed (in the middle or end of the day when my muscles have warmed up a bit) I'm careful to take magnesium away from calcium though as they don't play well together.

Same here lots of pain equals lots of ligament stretching I guess. I'm also getting sharp shooting pain in that area not fun and so far my Dr so it's normal. Am excited to feel the baby moving:)

I've read that the leg pain can be related to not getting enough Calcium. For me, it felt like growing pains in my legs. On a calcium supplement now and haven't noticed it since. Dr says I should get 1200mg of calcium per day. Can't wait to try the oatmeal soak tonight!

Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop. irs back taxes

My back is killing me, I constantly feel like I had a really hard workout. I booked a prenatal massage for Sunday and it cannot come fast enough!!

I'm having a lot of kicking this week, been feeling the baby since week 15 but now its so much stronger :) And baby's daddy felt them for the first time today :D I feel so lucky to feel my baby so early with my firs pregnancy. I'm getting the pains too but really don't care about them, anything for my baby.

I'm 17 weeks and I'm not having any pelvic cramps. But the leg cramps and restless legs are killer!

Anyone having heart palpitations?? I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago for palpitations and a heart rate of 255 bpm.... The cardiologist said its normal for pregnant women.... On a happier note I felt the baby kick 5 times for the first time this morning and I'm 17 weeks in!!!!

Last night, I had to go to the ER. Found out I have a bladder infection. The good news, we got another ultrasound, confirming that our precious baby GIRL is doing in there :) This is my 1st pregnancy, and I am surprised by all the difficulties : backaches, headaches, and now this infection, but she worth every bit of discomfort. Now if I could just feel her move!

Was having the pains on my left side as well but after a visit with my fabulous chiropractor, it has gotten much better! Pregnant women are a priority in his office and he has been most helpful keeping me comfortable so far with my first pregnancy. Getting ready to go see him again! Taking care of our bodies is more than just eating healthy and exercising, I am a total believer in chiro care and massage! Besides, who doesn't love a little pampering :)
