I’ve got terrible morning sickness! My OB prescribed Zofran. What should I know before taking it?
Zofran, also known as ondansetron, is a medication used for pregnant women who have severe morning sickness that hasn’t improved with other medications. Zofran is very effective at preventing both nausea and vomiting, so there’s hope you’ll feel better soon!
Zofran appears to be safe to use during pregnancy, even the first trimester. But because it’s a newer medication, doctors generally recommend trying other nausea remedies first -- popular choices include vitamin B6, ginger and antihistamines, or other medications like Reglan or promethazine.
If you’re looking out for side effects, know that Zofran could cause headaches, fatigue and constipation. But we’re guessing that you’ll take those over puking!
