Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I feel so tired I can barely keep my head off my desk at work, but I can’t tell my coworkers I’m pregnant yet. How can I cope?

Re: I feel so tired I can barely keep my head off my desk at work, but I can’t tell my coworkers I’m pregnant yet. How can I cope?

The Bump Expert

It does seem cruel that most moms-to-be feel worst during the first 12 weeks or so. Until you announce the good news, there's no milking it for (well-deserved) sympathy. The only real cure for first trimester fatigue is sleeping more... which, to be honest, might not even help. Since you probably can’t take catnaps in your office and remain employed, simply go to go bed earlier, sleep as late as possible, and try to make it through the day.

To boost energy, eat small, healthy meals and snacks throughout the day. Go for protein and complex carb combos like whole grain cereal with low-fat milk, a piece of cheese on whole grain crackers or a couple of slices of turkey on whole wheat bread. And when you feel yourself sinking into a valley, do some stretches and deep breathing exercises or go for a brisk walk around the block.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

To be honest i'm in the military and hardly get the sleep i deserve. The 1st trimester i had to get my husband and my mom also chipped in to do things around the house so i could come home and sleep and be ready in the morning. We wake up at 0600 and i have a very long day at work till i get to come home around 1700 (5pm).

I take a nap everyday for about an hour after work. Then, I have enough energy to excercise and get through the rest of the evening.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I've been very tired regardless of how much sleep I get. I also find myself waking up very early in the morning and I can't get comfortable enough to fall back asleep. I end up falling asleep about an hour or two later and after tossing and turning. I've never had issues with sleeping before.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am only 7 weeks & it seems like I started to feel super tired all the time around 5 weeks. Almost as soon as I found out. Going to bed earlier doesn't help. I can't seem to stay asleep through the whole night without waking up to go pee. I never woke up to pee before I got pregnant! Oh well. It will all be woth it in the end.

If you can stand to eat bananas do so! They are a great energy boost! They've been a life saver for me while I've sat through classes and meetings.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm only 6 weeks and I am now starting to feel the exhaustion! It's so bad, I can barely make it through the day. I'm up for a promotion so telling work is not an option. I love bananas and that's not helping. I even had to have 1/4 cup of coffee today just to make it to the gym, which made me feel horribly guilty. Any suggestions?

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am exhausted constantly. Thankfully, taking naps do seem to help me. I find that I'm the absolute worst around 1pm. Luckily I make my own work schedule so that definetely helps also! I couldn't imagine going through what the rest of you going through. I'm not vomiting at all (naseau only) and get plenty of sleep and I'm already saying this is the only baby I'm having. I should be ashamed...lol.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm only at 5 weeks and the insane exhaustion is actually what tipped me off to analyze my BBT chart and realize i was pregnant. I get so tired that my limbs feel heavy and not my own. It's ridiculous, but as someone else said, totally worth it.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am constantly exhausted, I told my doctor that all I am is tired and hungry, which is the honest truth. I had blood work done and found out that my thyroid is borderline, which causes tiredness and weight gain. I'm huge, but have only gained 6 pounds, but am extreemely tired. I am taking medicine for my thyroid problem and hopefully in a few more weeks I will notice a difference in energy.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I went to see my midwife yesterday for my booking appointment, and found out that my initial bloodwork shows my iron is low. She says this explained why I have been feeling so "useless" lately. I am 12 weeks pregnant with my 4th child. She suggested I get iron citrate pills to help. I went to 2 different pharmacies, and both druggists did not recognize the kind of iron I was seeking. I finally cheked online for the brand name Thorne, and discovered this product is pretty scarcely carried around the GTA. I ended up placing an order for the pills through a seperate website. Wondering if anyone else has taken these pills. Thank you.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Exhaustion hit me at 8weeks. Prior to that (about 5wks) I was tired but could live through the day without complaining and would still end up going to bed around 10pm and up at 7:00pm. Now, well, it's a different story. I'm exhausted beyond belief and nothing helps. I can't nap at all so I attempt to lay down on my hubby at night after dinner and rest (snooze I guess). I then go to the bedroom around 9:00 and hubby scratches my back or plays with my hair in which I'm out like a light within 15 min. It's great. I wish I could leave work at 2:00 and come home and sleep but unfor. I don't get paid unless I work! Can't wait till this is over!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm insanely exhausted all the time and really can't start my day until noon without puking my guts up and being crabby all day. It's hard to deal with but totally worth it in the long run. It also helps to come home and take naps after a long day of school or other activities. Don't let other people drag you down either. I have found that as long as you can snack on something then keep fruits and veggies handy to give you little boosts of energy when it's necessary.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am about 6 weeks pregnant with my first child. One day, I got off work early. I came home and laid down for a three hour nap, but I still went to bed at 10 that night. That's when I had a feeling I might be pregnant. I work 9 hours at a daycare, so nap times can be killer. I have to make sure I bring a book with me. I can't wait for my energy to come back.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm at 6 weeks and I thought I was just thinking I was tired because I knew I was pregnant. I get the worst around 2 or 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I work 10 or more hour days and can barely function when I get home. So far though, (knock on wood) I haven't had too many other symptoms. My boobs are tender, but not too bad. And only occasional nausea, no vomiting yet. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I work 12 hour rotating day/night shifts. I'm in the military and unfortunately, my job requires me to have a specific amount of crew rest. Well needless to say...that isn't happening. I go to bed as soon as I get home and then wake up 2-3 hours before my alarm even goes off. Then I find it nearly impossible to fall back asleep. It's been difficult, but I have no choice but to manage. I think the lack of sleep will be so worth the little blessing I'll get to meet in September.

I just found out last week that I am expecting, oh yes....I am already sleepy. I have never been able to take cat naps, EVER! But I absolutely love taking them now, and I am not even trying to. Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 24 week spregnant with baby #4, I am also very tired. When DH gets home from work I am most days super cranky and falling asleep standing up. Since my next doctor appointment they have to do labs and my glucose screen they are going to check my thyroid levels. I have had pregnancy anemia with all my other kids, so it will not be a big shock if she adds another iron supplement to my daily vitamins. By the end of my last pregnancy I was taking my prenatal, DHA, and 2 extra iron pills a day. Every pregnancy is different so just take it in stride. By the time your pregnancy is over and your little one is here, being tired will seem well worth it. Besides for the first few months of you newborn's life, there will be hardly any sleep at all.

I was so so sleepy and tired with my first baby. This is preggo number 2 and I am with twins (yay). So i am super exhausted BUT with my first, it went away like magic after the 1st 12 weeks or so. In my 2nd trimester I had so much energy and when i felt her move it just made be jump for joy! I hope this time is similar even with more feet and hands...Good luck. you will be just fine. It wasnt so bad the first trimester i just hated getting up to pee 5 to 6 times at night and now the problem i'm facing is stay comfortable during sleep, but it will only get worse. I have no remedies simply becuase i'm working and going to school, and i try my best to sleep in on the weekends, but i just say a simple pray and ask god for strenth to make it during the day and that seems to help me, but i just hope you find a plan that works for you. enjoy

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

im 27 weeks prego and im still tired all the time and i eat the best that i can...its been ridiculous that i dont even want to do basic tasks but my ob hasnt really said anything though i have good days and bad days like any woman. but yeah try to work through it and find the foods that give you energy naturally. for me i love to eat a handful of raisins it helps with iron and is a sweet treat for a little pick me up. but i agree with alot of ehat others said, lots of protein helps and trying to stay as active as possible even when you are falling over exhausted. i still take my martial art class at this point doing what i can and its been an amazing thing for my energy. it helps keep me going so im not too tired but still it can be hard. just hang in there girls it will all be worth it once you get to see that little bundle at the end of it all.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I can't even begin to explain the level of exhaustion I have. I am 5 weeks pregnant with my first and just a few close friends know. I am a high school math teacher and I am go go go from 7am until 7pm (and sometimes 10-11pm) because I also coach softball (which doesn't help, I know!). The good news is we've only got about 6 weeks left of school, so hopefully once summer hits I'll be in my second trimester and will be able to enjoy my summer. Something's gotta give at some point. Bless all of you that are doing this will little ones around!!

With both my last pregnancy as well as my current pregnancy, I take a 20 minute nap on my lunch break (thankfully I live close to home) and another 20-30 minute nap when I get home, so I have enough energy to make dinner and take care of the house, etc. Definitely helps. Sugar defintely helps too, though its not recommeded :)) It seems I get the exhausted feeling almost immediately after conception.

I was hardly tired at all with my first pregnancy. My sure tell sign was tender breasts...so tender I couldn't stand to be bra-less at all. I am 6 weeks and 4 days now and like most of you, I can't seem to stay awake. My almost 3 year old daughter is out of school for summer so it will make my first trimester a little more difficult but I am able to nap when she is...thank God she still does. My doctor told me that I can have 1-2 cups of coffee every day and it isn't harmful so I've been having 1 every morning to help until nap time rolls around.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm a teacher, so I've been able to rest a lot this summer. I am terrified of going back to work though. I spend 80% of my time standing and have zero down time during the day, save one 40 minute planning period. Then I'll have to face grading when I get home. Ugh.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I just found out I was pregnant and we are so excited, I'm assuming I'm 4-6 weeks. I'm 36 years old and I have 2 teenagers. But I had never felt this tired in my life with my other pregnancies. I'm assuming it could be my age well I thought that first, but now that I'm reading everyone else posting that is not true. I'm a very active person exercising 5 days a week and now I have no energy whatsoever. I know this is just a while until I have my baby so lets all hang in there.

I'm 7 weeks and i was just saying how i don't feel prego . So much for that two days ago i started feeling so tired i just can't find the energy to do anything. I have been sleeping about 13 hours including my nap. Thankfully my sister is prego to and she said she felt the very same way. but that it only last a couple weeks .

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'll be 43 on Monday, and am 12 weeks with my 3rd. I am dead beat usually by around 2-3 in the afternoon, and do my best to find a way to close my eyes for 20 minutes. I find that if I can sneak in 1 or 2 quick naps (20-30 mins), I can make it through the day. Nights are hard, getting up to pee so often breaks your sleep, and the incredibly vivid dreams - wow ! I take an iron supplement with my Materna, and try to get at least an hour of decent exercise a day, walking, golf, tennis, but the exercise helps the night times too.

I am glad I am not crazy...I am so tired. I am 5 weeks and I sleep about 9 hours at night and take two 30 min naps. One on my lunch break and the other when I get home from work...I will have to try bananas.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am in the same boat--haven't told the coworkers yet since I'm only 7 weeks, and don't want to complain about being tired because they will be suspicious. It usually hits around 1pm---I try to get up and take a quick walk around, even going outside to get some fresh air. And I eat small snacks here and there...neither of these things are cures, but they seem to really help me. I just hope it doesn't get worse before it gets better!

ladeebugged |

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Try to either take an iron supplement or eat foods with iron and eat/drink with something that contains vitamin c. This won't make you have an extreme amount of extra energy, but it definitely helps with the fatigue a little. If you can, also try to snack on things through out the day and stay hydrated to keep you awake!

Santi2010 |

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I work from home and I'm about 6 weeks along so I can understand the tiredness(if that's even a word). I try to eat fruit during the day to keep me going and if that doesn't work, I try to take a 20-30 minute nap on my lunch break. It recharges me so I can make it through the rest of the day. I hope this helps and congrats!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 4 weeks and I am so so tired. I can get 8 hrs of sleep the night before and still be craving for a nap by noon. This really irks my nerves for the simple fact I am a full time dental student, and a mother of 2 children that have multiple activities. My husband is so shocked by my tiredness for the simple fact before my pregnancy I could literally function off of only 5 hrs of sleep. I think that now that the weather is starting to cool down I am starting to feel like I am hibernating like a bear lol. Good luck on the fatigue.

TEskew83 |

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm 8 weeks along and am lucky enough to not have to work during my pregnanacy. I typically get a full 8 hours of sleep every night, and occasionally an afternoon nap, if needed. Having said that, I am STILL tired all day long. I move so much slower and seem to even get short of breath sometimes. One thing that seems to help is eating smaller, more frequent meals during the day, and also staying well hydrated. Hopefully, the second trimester brings more energy.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 12 weeks pregnant today and have been completely exhausted for the past 4 weeks. I can get 10 hours of sleep, wake up take my shower and lie right back down. I walked at the mall yesterday for an hour and couldn't wait to get home to take a nap! I haven't missed any work, but I can tell my productivity level is way down. I have my 12 week appointment tomorrow with my doctor and will check in with her about how tired I am. Good luck ladies, I hope everyone starts feeling more energetic soon.

I am relieved to hear that everyone else is having this exhaustion problem. I was beginning to think something was wrong with me. I dont remember being this tired with my daughter. I get a full 9 hrs sleep. Wake up and then 4 hrs later take a 2 hr nap and I am still exhausted. Hopefully in 6 weeks this will end. Cause I dont know how much more I can take.. and combined with the constant sickness . It is totally draining but I know it is going to be soo worth it!!!!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Exhaustion set in for me right away, week 4 or 5. I'm at about 9 now, and it's still there. I can't sleep through the night without having to pee like 3 times. BUT I still finished training a running a 10 mile race last week, and the answer about snacks is totally true. I notice if I don't eat every few hours, I start to crash. Even if you're not hungry, eat something. I'll look into my iron too, good suggestion!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

This is my first pregnancy, and it's sad but I'm already saying it will probably be my last! I have a full time job and am going to school for my masters, but am having a hard time doing either at this point. I'm 9 weeks today, and I'm hoping it all really does get better after the first trimester is over! I'm worthless anymore, my breasts are so tender it hurts to move at times, I've had horrible cramps, and I can barely keep my eyes open most of the time! I know it'll all be worth it in the end.. but please, someone tell me it'll get better soon!

akewuchick |

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Yes - the tiredness is normal. Sleep when/if you can. It does get better as you go along. I'm 19 weeks and the tiredness is nothing compared to the first trimester. Take it easy on yourself.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm also extremely fatigued but I make sure to get in at least 3 days of more than 10 hours of sleep. I truly go to bed at 8pm and wake up at 6:30pm. It has really helped to sleep more hours at night. If I have to, I take a drive to a safe spot during my lunch hour and take a 30 to 45 minute nap that way no one knows at work.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

From 6 weeks to 13 weeks I was so exhausted I could hardly get out of bed at all. My DH had to cook my meals and bring them to me in bed, as some days I would nearly faint just trying to walk to the kitchen. I slept and slept; once for 20 hours. It didn't seem to help. My doctor just said to drink more water. What did help a little was having a little bit of caffeine: a can of soda. Now I am almost 16 weeks. I am up and about most days, though I am constantly feeling sleepy. Seems all one can do is drink water, take vitamins, eat regularly, and sneak in a little caffeine. Hang in there; we are all working a miracle inside our bellies. =)

Sleep, sleep, sleep whenever you can! I just found out that we're pregnant on Christmas Eve, and I'm going through the same thing! I'm so tired and exhausted all the time now. I've been going to bed as early as I can and it helps a little. I'm still tired when I'm at my desk at work all day, but it definately helps to get more sleep! and drink lots of cold water too. It helps keep you hydrated and you'll feel more awake.

I've just reached 14 weeks... If this is any reassurance I am feeling alot less tired... I'm not back to pre-pregnancy energy levels but it's better... Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 12 weeks pregnant and exhausted all of the time! Luckily I haven't had much sickness, just fatigue. Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins and iron pills...they help me a lot! Also, fruit gives me a boost of energy while I am at work and feel as if I am going to crash! Take breaks as often as you can to walk around, esp. if you sit behind a desk. I have to do go to bed super early, or should I say end up falling asleep on the couch or friends couch, so if I work out or plan to do anything, I have to do it right after work! I have to say my husband has been a champ with helping around the house and etc.!

I am just like the previous poster. I found out last weekend that I was pregnant because I missed my period. I am only 4, maybe 5 weeks pregnant and my energy level is like a yo-yo. I am about 9 weeks pregnant. The feeling of queasiness began immediately after I did my first scan to know how far along I was. I've contributed the feeling of nausea and tiredness to taking Folic Acid. I have stopped taking it for a few days to see if that might help. Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm 8 weeks and I don't remember being this tired the first time around... Probably because I wasn't chasing after a 14 month old energetic little boy. I know it sounds silly, but I find that listening to your body is the best thing. If you're craving something, don't deprive yourself - EAT IT! Drink TONS of water! Eat bananas. I passed out my first pregnancy because my body was lacking potassium - NOT fun. Eat a lot of fruit - you can satisfy sugar cravings AND give yourself and baby the best nutrition possible. The 1st trimester feels like FOREVER, and then your baby is here before you know it :)

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I must say that it is a little refreshing to know that I am not the only one feeling this extreme exhaustion early on. Good luck to you all with your coping strategies; I still haven’t figured any out. I am okay in the morning because I have been focused on getting a full nights rest, but after I eat (lunch hours 1-2pm), I get extremely tired. It actually makes me feel guilty, as if I am being lazy, and I also feel like I am neglecting my fiancé because I’m always too “tired” to do anything. I feel bloated and cranky all the time, although I’ve only gained 5 pounds (give or take) since I’ve been pregnant. Around Weeks 5-6 is when these symptoms began, and I am only at Week 8. At work, I always use a majority of my lunch break to tap a nap, and then I eat afterwards (to lesson some of the after-eating sleepiness). I have not felt any sickness so far. Thank God! Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 17 weeks...i thought my fatigue would subside after the first trimester, and I still have bouts of sleepiness. It really hits me hard after lunch like 2pmish.. .then I commute 1.5 hours to get home, I get home at about 6pm and I am too tired for anything..

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts. Between shifts I am lucky if I get 6 hours of sleep. Everyone at work keeps asking me if I am okay because I look like the walking dead. Hopefully this subsides in 5 weeks (after the first trimester!). I guess I shouldn't complain too much, I have not experienced morning sickness yet!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

About 3 weeks ago I woke up not feeling well and extremely dizzy. I took some medicine to help with the dizziness, but the next day it happened again. I have been extremely tired and nauseated a lot. Today I found out I am pregnant. I am so happy to find out that is what is causing all of this because I was really starting to worry that something was wrong with me. I have literally just found out I am pregnant, I haven't even had the chance to tell my husband yet because he is not home, lol.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

About 5 or 6 weeks pregnant and the worst part is not sore breasts, nausea, or not being able to share the news - its waking up in the morning and NOT feeling refreshed! It is so tempting to drink up the caffeine, but baby deserves better :) I'll have to start working daily naps into my schedule. This is our first, so I'm new to all this....

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

For me, it's right at my afternoon rush hour, about 3:30 - 4:00. When I didn't know I was pregnant, I would drive home and wonder why I was so sleepy. I was driving back from vacation (on the day I found out) and I actually had to tell my husband to keep talking to me until I could find a place to pull over so that he could drive. No matter what I do - naps at lunch, naps after work, full 8 hours of sleep (yeah, right) - nothing works. While my/his family knows (I'm 5 weeks and it's my first, so yeah, we told with the caveat that they keep it on the DL and off Facebook) nobody at work does and people have been telling me all week that I look like I'm going to pass out. And now I am starting to feel queasy at random times especially with the chemical smells in my lab. Week 6 is fast approaching and I am praying that the morning sickness fairy forgets about me.This is going to be a fun 7 weeks.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I've always loved naps and now that I'm expecting I only want to sleep. But, when I lay down to take a nap I can't sleep. It's the most aggravating feeling...knowing I am exhausted and need to sleep but my body won't let me. I can't sleep at night either, I'm either up peeing or tossing and turning. Bananas and apples with peanut butter help and I occassionally will have some half-caff coffee or part of a diet coke. My coworker is a few months ahead of me and her energy is back to normal, so that give me hope. Hang in there everyone!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

i'm almost 8 weeks pregnant. i am super tired, especially in the afternoon. i find myself chugging water at work so i have to pee so i can get up and walk around to wake myself up a little. i'm completely off caffeine, too, so i'm sure that's not helping. the great thing is that i go to bed around 930 and PASS OUT. i barely wake up when my husband comes to bed. i do think that working out helps with the tiredness, though. most mornings, unless i fall back to sleep after i turn my alarm off, i get up and do an exercise video. i don't have many other symptoms besides my boobs are huge and tender. and i can't eat bananas anymore. : / trying to enjoy the whole pregnancy thing, though. it's going to go by so fast. though i can't help looking forward to the 2nd trimester. hopefully i won't be so sleepy all the time.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I feel your pain because I am right there in your shoes. I work at a daycare and I have two children at home all while I am going to school at night. Sleep has become a thing of the past, the hardest thing for me is naptime at work for the kids. There have been times when I have caught myself falling asleep more than the kids :) hang in there, try to keep moving and get all the sleep you can when you can. Once everyone knows that you are pregnant they will understand why you were a zombie for so many weeks:)

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and am still so exhausted! I've been exhausted right from the beginning. By the time I get home from work, I have no energy to clean the house or do anything like that. Luckily, my husband has been a huge help. My friend is 15 weeks pregnant and she says she has energy again so I have some hope that my energy may be coming back! :)

Unfortunately, I can't tell you a way to cope with your exhaustion because i'm experiencing the same thing! No matter how much sleep I get, I feel like I could sleep standing up and I'm only 5 weeks! I do prenatal yoga before I go to bed at night to not only help me relax, but to also rock my unborn baby to sleep. I'm still tired in the morning, but not nearly as tired as I would be if I didn't do yoga. It helps a lot you should try it.

I am 7 weeks now, and I work 12 hour night shifts, and I am sitting at a desk looking at several computer monitors, that made me sleepy even before I was pregnant!! Whenever I get tired I stand up and stretch and maybe walk around a bit, helps a little.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 11 weeks now and still figuring out my new pregnant sleep schedule. Starting at about week 7 I started waking up around 5 am with terrible hunger pains and finding it impossible to get back to sleep for those much needed last two hours. I've started eating a small healthy snack about an hour before bed. My week 11 crave (also what I am eating as I type) is whole wheat toast with colby jack cheese on top. Also, if I wake up early and hungry, I eat a small bowl of oatmeal and then settle in for that last glorious hour! This strategy has helped me get a little bit more sleep!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm only 17 and in school. I am freakishly tired all the time! No matter how much sleep I get! I don't want anyone at school (like my friends) to know yet because of the "what-ifs" and I have a few weeks still until my first doctors appointment. I usually feel better if I eat a really (naturally) sweet fruit or something in the morning. Still tired, but happy to be pregnant. (: I just try to think of going day-by-day.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I've found that taking a nap at lunchtime is essential. I usually eat a quick lunch (I'm eating every 2-3 hrs, so I keep my meals small), then lay down for the rest of the time. Even if I don't fall asleep, the bit of rest seems to help. On my days off, I'm good for a 2-3 hr nap after lunch.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am experiencing the same thing. I try to go to bed earlier and take a quick nap when I get home. Also, try eating energy booting foods. You should also speak to your OB about this, you might need more iron in your prenatal vitamins. I also heard exercising is helpful.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

In my first trimester I was devastatingly exhausted beyond belief. Nothing I did helped: naps, exercise, normal activity. Now that I am in my second trimester, I am just very exhausted, but I am not at my normal energy level. Also, even though I do leg exercises, my legs feel weak. I used to be a stairs kind of girl; now I pray for escalators. I hope things will get better.

ilanat |

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Tired does not describe this feeling. The exhaustion has debilitated me completely. I have always been the go go go type; I try to tackle way too much for my own good. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant and praying for some relief. I am in school full time and working, and I am falling so far behind. Attempting to complete the simplest task is nearly impossible. I want to sleep all day long and then go to bed at 9 at night. Additionally, when I do go to sleep, I toss and turn all night between my many bathroom breaks. I am so very excited for baby's arrival and feel so blessed. Of course all of this is worth it, but I am having so much trouble handling this inability to function right now.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am at week 5 and feeling quite energized, considering the circumstances. I attribute it to a green smoothie every morning using Garden of Life's "Perfect Food" blended with a cup of coconut milk (or natural juice of your choice), one banana, and a handful each of frozen mango and strawberries. I also am taking Garden of Life's Raw Prenatal vitamins. Not only do I make it through the day, but also am not dying to go right to sleep when I get home. I'll let you know if the energy continues throughout the trimester, but I think this is worth a try. You can find Garden of Life products at Wholefoods for sure, but also probably at any health food store.

I am at five weeks and all I can do is sleep. I wake up feeling great, but it feels like I have a little furnace inside of me. I actually believe I am losing a little weight, even though I've added a high calorie Naked Juice drink to my diet. It helps to combat the headaches though, which occur soon after I wake up. I am over 35, so I have to give my body the time it needs to rest. It is hard to put judgments aside about how little I am getting done. My house is a mess!!! This is my first pregnancy and the 'energy drain' has been wreaking havoc on me. I used to be able to get away with 4 hours of sleep now I absolutely require a minimum of 8 hrs and have slept as much as 12. I also sleep during my 45 min- hr commute to work as well. Doesn't help. Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

At about 4 or 5 weeks into my pregnancy, (my first one) I was exhausted. I would try to get to bed earlier but that didn't help. Then I decided to take naps. I get home from work around 5:30, take a nap till 7:30 when my husband gets home, eat shower, and am back in bed by 10:30 ish till 8am. Still didn't help. It didn't help that I stopped drinking coffee and soda, so no caffeine, even though my doctor said I can have one cup a day. I felt so bad for my husband because I was always sleeping. I just entered my 12th week, and things are getting better, I'm still tired, but not exhausted anymore, and I'm hoping it will get better as my pregnancy progresses. Also, my pre-natal vitamins helped a bit.

BUT I find myself lethargic throughout the day and craving a nap while in the office. What I try to do is eat fruit every time I get tired - walking to the kitchen to take out my fruit and eat it in the office kitchen (we have tables/chairs) helps me stay awake. Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I started feeling exhausted literally 2 days after we conceived and I had no idea why until week 3, when we found out we are expecting. I am 8 weeks now and the exhaustion just gets worse and worse every day. I take plenty of naps and go to bed early and wake up as late as possible. At work, I am on my feet constantly and it can be very stressful and I am completely worn out afterwards. The only thing I have really found that helps is drinking a ton of water throughout the day. I'm having a battle between exhaustion and nausea right now, so water has become my best friend!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Napping. That's my answer. I don't like the fact that the "expert" stated to eat some slices of turkey. The American Pregnancy Association specifically states for pregnant women to stay away from deli-meats unless they are hot. So, that's an interesting thing to read! I guess anyone is an expert nowadays. As far as the fatigue is concerned, I'm 8 weeks, and definitely fight through it. I had HORRIBLE nausea/vomiting from weeks 5-7, and that was coupled with extreme fatigue that I just fought through (sometimes with tears). Now, I just take naps when my body tells me to.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 4 months Pregnant and the tired feeling has NOT gone away! They say the second trimester is the blissful time- Im still waiting on that! I go to bed at 8 or 9 wake at 5 to run and I have to fight to get things done. Im so overwhelmed with all that needs to be accomplished before the baby arrives and I dont have the energy to do them! I still havent even started on the nursery! I try not to stress out about it but I am a VERY WELL PLANNED person- Anyone else in this situation? Does the exhaustion EVER go away? (a blood panel was done and all is normal)

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I always get tired around 2 or 3...but i think everyone does lol. I found going to the gym when i get off work at five gives me alot of energy to get through the rest of the evening. i usually go to sleep around 10 and wake up at 6am. its hard to get motivated but if i do work out all my energy comes out!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 8 wks pregnant with my first, but I have found that ambient noise helps me to get to sleep. My MIL got us a clock that plays different sounds like waves, crickets, rain, thunder, etc. I throw on the fan as well. A nice cool bedroom has helped with my nausea which was making it hard for me to fall asleep. I'm still struggling with nausea during the day but I'm able to sleep for about 9-10 hrs. each night. We'll see if that continues when I have to go back to school and teach all day :)

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm 8 weeks, everyday around 1pm I want to go into our offices' conference room and take a quick cat nap : ) I am completely exhausted every day and throw up every morning. This is my 2nd baby and I work full time. All I can say try to go to bed early whenever you can- extra sleep never hurt anybody. Also the nausea and tiredness are temporary..kinda : ) it’ll be over before you know it! Just hang in there & keep your eyes on the prize : )

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm exhausted right now! I am a SAHM and I refuse to nap during the day becuase I'm afraid I won't get up and forget my other kids at school. LOL Besides I'd feel a little guilty if I napped during the day because DH comes home so tired. But truthful it's killing me! I'm 5wks and I am totally exhausted. I get up everymorning for some reason around 4am then by the time I get back to sleep the alarm is going off at 6:45. So I'm going to start going to bed with the kids at 8 to see if that helps...

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm glad im not the one thats tired all the time! i am 8 weeks and i and literally a couch potato. I am sleeping late waking up at 7am, don't want to get out of bed so i fall asleep again sleep till about 1pm and sit on the couch and do some reading. I need some energy!!

laneytran |

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm a SAHM as well. And like BossMamma831 I feel guilty napping when DH is at work all day. But it got to a point where I couldn't help it. During week 5 and 6 I was done come 12p. So I would tell DS it was quiet time and put on a movie for him and lay with him and nap. Thank goodness I have an alarm set to pick up DD or she would have been forgotten at school a few times! Poor dear. But during week 7 and now 8 I find I can make it through the day. It's nite time that gets me. I want to go to bed by 7! DH thinks that's crazy. I don't think he really understands what I'm going thru. I try to explain, tossing and turning all nite, waking up at 5a, taking care of DS and the house, for right now is exhausting. Hopefully this will pass in the 2nd Trimester.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

It's diff for everyone when the exhaustion stops. with my first one the exhaustion went from about 8 weeks into my second trimester until around 24 weeks. I had to quit my second job because I could just not function. and what's worse for me, my husband seems to not understand at all just how exhausted I am and that it is due to being pregnant. which adds to guilt i already have of feeling completely useless right now.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm 8 weeks and have been feeling very tired and sleepy all the time, I'm working and going to school, yesterday I went to school early in order get some time to read before class but instead I fell asleep in the car for 1 hour, I couldn't even get to class, had to drive straight home and sleep. I'm hoping after the 12 weeks, this will get better.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am in my 8th week of pregnancy, I feel the pain of being tired! When i get home from work, I usually dont get to nap, but i found relaxing on the couch for about an hr helps with getting some energy to do evening chores before going to bed (which i try to get in bed earlier than usual, around 9pm)

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I love when people recommend exercise as a way to get more energy. Yes, obviously that works, but if had enough energy to exercise I wouldnt be having this extreme fatigue problem. I am 14 weeks and aside from the 12th week I have been beyond exhausted. Coconut water does help with all the potassium it has, and I notice that carbs and sugar do make me tired and that low GI foods seem to modify that. Protein and veggies in the morning give me more energy, but unfortunately crackers and other carbs (not necessarily the healthy ones) are what I crave in the morning. I have always been extremely conscious of what I eat and ran 40 miles a week before pregnancy. All I can say right now is if my body wants sleep, I am going to listen to it as much as freely possible.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm simply EXHAUSTED these days. The other day, I was in the store trying to find vitamins, and I just kept yawning. A random stranger looked at me, and said "wake up." I shot him the "I'm pregnant, you moron" look. The next day, I fell asleep while I was waiting for someone at the library.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Doctoral program and pregnancy do not mix! Ugh, I am so tired all of the time and sitting through classes has me nodding off occasionally. I've added iron to my vitamin regimen but I believe that is adding to my nausea so at this point I have no clue what to do! I've been trying to steal little naps but I'm still tired...and the idea of working out makes me even more tired lol.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Well, I have been told that when my head begins to bob as I dose off at my desk in front of my comuputer. I am supposed to drink some cold water, or chew on ice. I have also been told to stand up and move around a bit go outside and get some fresh air. Take a trip to the bathroom and while in the stall if you can put your head back and rest your eyes for a few. Someone said take a lot of work with you in the bathroom as if you are going to make copies. Then lock yourself in the stall and catch a few winks. I tried it and I slept too long so when I did it again I had to set my timer for no more then 10 minutes. If you can sleep at you lunch break don't forget to set your timer. If it gets completely out of control you may have to tell your boss you are pregnant. So they can understand your sudden case of narcolepsy. I am 9weeks and 3 days pregnant and I had to tell my boss because I could not and still can not keep from dosing off at my desk. The icy or ice does help and walking around helps. but there is nothing like sleep and if you can get it, it is the best feeling in the world. If you talk to your boss depending on your boss he/she may allow you to take a nap everyday. My Aunt was lucky enough to have a boss like that. The only way you will know is if you talk to them and find out. Good luck!!! I am rooting for you.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

Today I have hit the wall I am so tired banana - coffee - sunshine and water are not helping - I am heading home for a bath and a sleep and asking my partner to cook the dinner which should be interesting but a help none the less. I burp every 20 mins which subsides the nausea for about 30 seconds and then it comes back. I I work for the Government in Australia and thankfully they have a sick bay and a quiet room so if I want I can take 15 minutes in the morning and in the afternoon to rest if I need it but we are keeping the pregnancy a secret until 12 weeks due to a history of losses. I luckily have a day off tomorrow so hopefully I can re-charge for back to work FRIDAY. One top tip for putting a pep in your step is to use a natural oil that hightens your mental function - Any of the Citrus oils Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, Petitgrain, Neroli, and Bergamot are great at stimulation and boosting your energy. So are Peppermint and Spearmint.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I cut out most sugars, and try not to eat after dinner. It seems like my energy level is better not that I've made those changes... I know that most sites tell you to eat every few hours, or before bed so you won't get sick in the morning. But I noticed for me, eating a little bite before I go to bed actually makes MS much worse. It depends on your weight, too, I think. I'm a good 30-40 lbs over where I should be (before pregnancy), so I have leptin issues as well. :) Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I was very tired all the time until I switched my prenatal vitamin. My original one did not have magnesium, which magnesium deficiency can cause you to feel tired constantly. Once I switched to one with magnesium I felt I had so much more energy!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I find staying well hydrated helps. Sipping on a big cup of ice water seems to help give me a little boost when I can't seem to keep my eyes open. Plus a little lemon juice in the water can some times help if you're feeling sick. When I worked full time I also used my breaks to take little cat naps.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I agree with blackdollhouse66. Being in the military makes it so much harder because we don't even get enough sleep. My days start at 5:30am and I don't get home till 5pm. By the time I get home, I don't know if I want to eat, talk to my husband, or sleep. I'm literally bobbing my head trying to stay awake as I write this.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 9 weeks pregnant and my partner likes to call me lazy which really posses me off. I'm grumpy most of the time and hormones are raging. Since 4 weeks I have been constantly tired. I can only manage to sleep between 1-5pm without waking up, but sleeping during the night just doesn't happen. With the peeingbloated belly or weird dreams nothing seems to be going smoothly. Ohhhhhh roll on 12th May

I'm not a 100% how far along I am, we just found out we are pregnant. Thinking I'm at 5 weeks. I'm extremely exhausted. Constantly hungry but nausea. Nothing sounds good. I work 8.5 a day and I'm ready to go home and sleep by noon. Tomorrow is 3 weeks til our wedding day and I have no energy to get anything finished. Hopin my girls will help me out more and get stuff done. I'm ready for the wedding to be over so I can focus on my baby.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

My partner and I have been trying for a baby for over two years now, We were going to a fertility clinic for about 5 months before somebody told us to contact this spell caster who is so powerful, We contacted him at this email; mokospellcaster@gmail.com , for him to help us, then we told him our problem, he told us that she we either conceive in January 2013 or February 2013,but after two years of trying we were at a point where we were willing to try anything. And I'm glad we came to Dr Moko, Because he predictions put us at ease, and I honestly believe him, and his gods really helped us as well, I am thankful for all he has done.

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I'm 8 weeks pregnant, and I've been fighting exhaustion since the middle of my 5th week. I teach middle school band and choir, so I don't really get a chance to sit and rest while students are working quietly. My job wore me out before I was pregnant, but now...YIKES! Even though I'm so tired, my body still wakes me up every night at 4a to pee. After that, I'm lucky if I manage to drift back to sleep before my alarm goes off at 6. If I'm so tired, why can't I sleep?

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I decided I would tell my direct manager that I was pregnant because of this reason and the morning sickness, and I'm glad I did! He is more understanding than I thought and if I'm ever late or in the bathroom because I feel sick, he knows exactly what is going on. You can always think about telling your direct manager, in case you have a nasty coworker who tattles becase they catch you sleeping on your desk or frequently taking a walk outside the building for fresh air! Just let them know you aren't ready to tell the whole office yet, I'm sure they will respect your decision.

I'm 8 weeks, and I got one of those full body pillows to sleep with at night. It helps me stay on my left side, and you switch it around later for when you have more of a belly. I got one from amazon for 43.99. It has made a huge difference with how I wake up and feel in the mornings!

Q&A: Pregnant and tired all the time?

I am 8 weeks, 1 day. I am so exhausted that I try to take a nap after work every day that I can squeeze it in! I work 6:30am-3pm. I am trying to walk 3-5 days per week. I did well up until a week or 2 ago. Now it's hard to even imagine walking after work! My dishes and laundry even seem overwhelming these days! I'm not complaining a bit though! It's definitely for a good cause! Just keep your head up and know that this too shall pass! Or at least that's what they keep telling me!! ;)
