Is so-called “pregnancy brain” a myth?

Re: Is so-called “pregnancy brain” a myth?

The Bump Expert

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), there’s no scientific research that proves you get flakey during pregnancy. But even if “pregnancy brain” is just a myth, there are still tons of women who complain of feeling more forgetful or spaced out during their pregnancy. If you’re experiencing memory lapses or periods of forgetfulness, chances are your fellow moms-to-be can relate. So what’s to blame? Hormonal changes, lack of sleep, and/or the distractions of spending a lot of time thinking (and stressing) about a new baby are the likely causes. Save your sanity by writing things down and making lists, along with snacking regularly and getting lots of rest. Also, be sure to take your prenatal vitamins -- they contain ingredients that help boost mental sharpness. Don’t worry, it’s annoying, but it isn’t fatal or permanent.

re: Q: Forgetfulness during pregnancy?

I'm so glad that this isn't something I just made up! I've done so many stupid things since I got pregnant- stopping at GREEN lights for like 5 minutes and then realizing... GO!....Anyone else having these problems or am I going to just chalk it up to the fact that I'm blonde AND pregnant!?!?

re: Q: Forgetfulness during pregnancy?

I'm definitely experiencing "mommy brain" as well. The other night my husband was trying to talk to me about a certain topic, and I had to tell him I had no idea what he was talking about. Then he told me that I was the one who had originally told him about it and he was trying to continue the conversation from a few days before! I couldn't remember at all! That's not the only time either...

I have forgotten many things at work lately. I'm sure my boss thinks I'm an airhead even though he knows I'm pregnant! I just took over a new position here and I keep making mistakes and taking forever to get things done. But luckily he is VERY helpful and assures me that everything is fine and not to worry.

re: Q: Forgetfulness during pregnancy?

oh this is so real. I was going to Costco and I was just going in real quick and had my dog in the car. I even put down the windows for him and remembered everything for him. But as I was walking into Costco I went to double click the lock on the remote (to make sure nobody takes my puppy-lol) and I coudln't find my keys. So I went back and not only were they in the car, the car was running!

re: Q: Forgetfulness during pregnancy?

I am sadly so happy that others are experiencing this too. I have "forgotten" grocieries at the store twice in the last month. I actually walked out of the store and left them. The second time, I couldn't even remember if they made them outside of the store or not. The second time, I got home, realized what I had done and was practically hysterical. I can't remember this being this bad before. Can't wait for my brain to return...

There actually is evidence that says that the increased blood flow puts pressure on your brain and is what causes this. It's totally real.

re: Q: Forgetfulness during pregnancy?

I just so happened to catch an episode of Oprah here a few months back and this was on of their questions. Actually, they had a doctor who said mommy brain is real! He said because babies use the mommy's omega three fats, it takes them away from the brain cells and temporarily shrinks them. A few months after pregnancy they tend to go back to their normal size. I'm not sure if this is true..but hey, it's Oprah! :)

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I started acting crazy before I knew I was pregnant and this is my third pregnancy! I had to return to 3 different places in one day to retrieve stuff I forgot or left behind. If it starts before I even know I'm pregnant, I don't think it's a myth. Now I make sure and take lists everywhere I go! If only I can remember my lists... :)

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

The first thing I told my fiance when we found out was that pregnant people are stupid and to bare with me. I will use the restroom, flush the toilet, walk one step out of the bathroom and turn back around because I don't remember if I flushed or not, I go back sometimes 3-4 times to make sure. I will walk from one room to the other right next to it for some reason and forget what the reason was. I am so horribly forgetfull and spacey it's ridiculous, and sometimes incredibly funny. A friend of mine calls it DIPS - Dumb Induced Pregnancy Syndrome, I agree, this is my third and I am still as dumb as I was the first time. Just a few minutes ago my 3 year old wanted a straw for her milk and I opened the fridge to look for one, my fiance laughed and asked if I had found one, I laughed too, then I opened the utensil drawer where we keep them and got one for her. I will call my 6 year old by my 3 year olds name and vice versa, they'll give me a strnge look and correct me, I feel so bad, but it's just so funny.

Yes, I think its fact far from myth. I'm in nursing school and could not understand WHY I made the lowest grade on an exam 3 weeks ago. Well, I found out 2 weeks ago I was pregnant. I really do believe it has to do with the hormones because I didn't even know I was pregnant when I took the exam!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

oh my word!!! This is my third pregnancy. Last Sunday morning I and my family got to church, this random lady picked up my 2 year old daughter and i realized that her diaper was hangin to her knees. I had gotten her dressed hair fixed sox and shoes on, fed her breakfast, and completely forgot about changing her diaper. What a dork. I only work 2 days a week, and 3 times this month i have either locked my keys in the office, forgotten them at home, or could not remember which key to use to open the door. I will also walk across the house to go do SOMETHING, and when i get wherever it is i thought i was headed to, i dont know why im there. this is nuts. IM ONLY 9 WEEKS.

I was speaking to my friend on the phone and said "i just feel so stupid and absentminded lately", she replied "you're pregnant"... I didn't think anything of it especially since my husband and I just went to an infertility consult at the doctors office as we were having problems conceiving... 2 days after my conversation with my friend, my test was positive!

I too am so happy to hear others have experienced this. I can't believe how spacey I am sometimes now that I am pregnant. Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

Thank God I am not alone! I have been forgetting everything lately. I feel like I need to get one of those clip things that you use for babies to attach their pacifiers to their clothes. I have lost my work badge and work keys, which is going to cost me a bundle. I lost my house keys the other day... finally found them still hanging in the front door. (They'd been there all night.) The best/worst one was the other day when i went to the dentist. I do not live in a big town, but I got completely lost. And I'd been there before! I had to call for directions, and even then, I still kept taking wrong turns. I'm afraid to leave the house.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

this is not forgetfulness but ever since I have been pregnant (11 weeks now) my sense of proximity and coordination has been totally off. This comes up most often at the grocery store. I run into displays, turn and hit someone with my hand basket or a gallon of milk. Even one time I bumped into this woman accidentally and said "I'm sorry" and she gave me the evil eye. Man, I said to myself.."I wish you would say something right now cause I am STARVING and I could really use unleashing the beast on someone at this moment!" hahahaa....

In 13 years of driving I've never had an accident. The other day after a super long and tiring work meeting, I got in my car in the underground parkade and promptly scraped the entire driver's side of my car along a cement post. Lovely - that'll cost me a bundle. And a few ego notches...

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

It's no myth for me. My family has been complaining about how 'airheaded' I've been lately. My mom can't get enough of it! She had "pregnancy brain" when she was pregnant with my sisters and I, and thinks its absolutely HILARIOUS that I've got it. I can't even remember that I've said things outloud, three seconds after it happens! Ugh. This will be a longggg six more months. All worth it in the end though. :]

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I definitely experienced "pregnancy" or "placenta" brains early on in my pregnancy. This being my first baby, I had never heard of the term before until a friend texted me and asked me if I had "placenta brains" yet! I googled it and started laughing. Just that morning, I got up to make my husband breakfast and couldn't find the eggs anywhere. I was puzzled knowing that I had just bought an 18 count pack the day before. I thought I was going crazy and looked through the refrigerator countless times with no success. Finally, I opened up my freezer and there they were all cracked and oozing (gross!). I have NEVER done anything like that before I was pregnant! I have had other little mishaps too, but nothing quite as bad.

I need lists for everything, or it's just not going to get done. If DH tells me to get something at the store, even if I'm right out the door when he tells me, if I don't put it on my list it won't get purchased. The other day at work, I couldn't even count the change out of $4.51 from $5! I forget what day it is, I actually lost my keys and realized I had put them in the fridge!! Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

This has seriously been happening to me all week, since about the day before I took my pregnancy test last week. It's not that unusual for me to leave things places, but I usually remember EXACTLY where it was. But the other day I had literally no idea whatsoever where my phone was - I could have sworn it was just in my hand but when we got home there it was on the kitchen counter. Then, the next day, I couldn't find my car key, so I grabbed the spare, went to the car, to find that my key was still sitting in the ignition from the night before. I have never done that before. Then, yesterday, I couldn't for the life of me remember if I had taken my prenatal vitamins that day. It's two large pills, should be hard to forget, but I had zero clue. My husband was like, um, well, did you or didn't you? Funny stuff. At this point, I definitely think it's real. Boy am I in trouble for the next 8 months!!!

Today I'm 4 weeks pregnant and yesterday I walked out of the grocery store with my basket of items. It wasn't until I got to the car that I realized what I've did. Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one. I forgot to grab my badge for work the other day. I now remember standing looking at my badge saying, don't forget that. Than 2 minutes later when I left, guess what I forgot. I'm no rocket scientist, but when people ask me questions I know, I just blank out. Than later it comes to be or it's like one of those oh duh moments. Has anyone had issues with getting the words they want to say out, some days I just slurr a word or two trying to get them out. Eventually I do, but took me many times of trying. I'm 14 weeks along, good to know I can chalk it up to being pregnant. :)

Okay so I payed for my food at Arby's once and then after getting my card back I DROVE AWAY!?!?!?!? I'm normally so on top of things I couldn't even believe it when I found myself ten miles down the road searching for my drink! I was stressed about work and I think that, combined with my pregnancy probably caused it! I've never been so spaced out in my life! I don't even like driving anymore because I've caught myself running red lights lately! It's definitely the weirdest part of being pregnant for me.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I have totally become a victim of pregnancy brain. Last night I got everything ready for dinner for tonight (a crock-pot meal) so all I had to do this morning was put it in and turn it on. Well today at work, I was thinking about dinner and knew I turned the crock-pot on, but could not remember if I plugged it in. I came home at lunch and sure enough, the crock-pot was on, but not plugged in. I felt horrible that I wasted all of that food (since it sat out all morning) but not as bad knowing I can blame it on pregnancy brain.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I have gotten out of the car with the keys in and ignition running, i put the keys in the mailbox after removing the mail, i've put the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the cabinet...and that's just what I remember from the past few weeks!

owenshall |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

There may be no scientific research that proves it but if t hey followed me around for a day or two they may think twice! My cell was ringing earlier in the fridge.... I stop at red lights and then go when it's clear..... I pushed the button for the elevator and when it came just stood there and watched it go again.... And I often have no idea what my husband is talking about, even when I started the conversation! I guess I have to much on my mind!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I can breathe easy knowing that i'm not going insane. I washed clothes on a Monday and didn't realize until Thursday a whole load of my husbands clothes were M.I.A.!!!!!! I didn't know if I should laugh or cry that I'm so forgetful.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

i am soooo forgetful. my husband always says its pregnancy brain but i think its just cuz im an air head. i gave up my driving rights because i do stupid things like stop at green lights and drive 20 under the limit.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

it is definitely real for me and has been with all of my other pregnancies. It takes me forever to recall what I'm trying to say! and if I need to make a list for the grocery store I write down the first item and forget what else I wanted to put on there!!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I have been complaining of pregnacy brain for about 5 weeks now and I am 16 weeks!! I find that I cannot complete sentences and I have even put the milk in the cabinet and the cereal in the fridge!! My brain is definitely now functioning at its best! I makes it fun at work tho, my co-workers find it hilarious since i am usually very put-together!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

For the past week or so I have been incredibly spacey, which isn't something I normally have an issue with. Upon seeing this link, I felt relief and even more relief upon reading the article. I'm curious about how long this "pregnancy brain" lasts for others?I'm in week five now.

Well, I have a fourteen month old and I'm seventeen weeks pregnant. When DH asks me to do something, he knows he has to call me fifteen times so that I'll remember. This was after several times when I forgot. He used to get really annoyed, but I think he's used to it now...lol

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I have an issue with continuously losing things! Items that I use daily or more than once a day. I have been eating peanut butter for the last 2 weeks (it helps the stomach). Yesterday I put it away somewhere and I've totally lost it! Maybe its my embryo telling me I've had a enough PB this month - I don't know! So frustrating!

kmagu3 |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I totally believe in "Pregnancy brain". I laughed at my friends when they told me they would get it, but changed my tune when I started with it with my son. Thinking its probably caused by the hormones because I was well rested & I didn't stress out when I was pregnant with him.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I was just plain dumb in my 3rd trimester with my 1st. It is definitely real! Scientific or not, and I don't know what causes it, but it happens! Then, you have the baby and you have Mom-Brain! haha

mrssq |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

It's even funnier how everyone is happy that everyone else feels just as crazy and dumb, lol!!!! We are trying to get pregnant now and I feel as though I'm getting really dumb and I swear I drop everything now. So not sure if it's just the mind frame of trying or maybe could be but I can't help but laugh at it sometimes. Good luck to all of you!!!!

herbnhollie |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I knew I'm not that dumb. I am only 7 weeks along, but I was messing up at work the past two weeks that I had no choice but to tell both my bosses I was pregnant. It seems to get worse everyday, I don't understand half of what I am reading and I can't even write correctly anymore. Woohoo this confirms it, my Husband thinks its cute, but it has been frustrating especially since I didn't know what was wrong with me.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

OMG how funny that I am not alone on this. Just yesterday I went and got gas in my car. Once the gas stopped pumping I put the pump away, completed my transaction, and then reset the gauges on the dashboard and the car info display. As I drove off and made a turn at the the light I looked to my side and I freaking left the gas tank open and the cover was on its holder! Luckily I realized it right away and was turning into Chick-Filet for lunch. I was just shaking my head and laughing at myself.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I am loving these stories!!! My problem is the laundry. I put the clothes in the washer, start the machine, add the soap...get it all ready to go. Then an hour later when I go to put it in the dryer I realize the washer never ran because I forgot to close the lid. I keep doing it - you think I'd learn by now...especially because now when I'm doing it I stand there thinking "close the lid this time" and then I STILL forget...sigh...maybe my hubby should be doing the laundry...??? ;) It's worth a try!!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I'm about 5-6 weeks and I totally have baby brain. I've been misinterpreting a ton of stuff - from text messages, articles, and other documents I have to draft for work. I had to tell my boss the deal...as I made one to many stupid mistakes..LOL! I would literally read something, and would summarize it incorrectly! I had to tell, as my boss was concerned. . So being pregnant so far has made me produce crap this past week. I hope this pregnancy brain gets better. On top of physical symptoms, we have to deal with this!!??

Bon1205 |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I am only 9 weeks along but I started getting pregnancy brain at like 6 weeks. My husband and I just make a joke of it--every time I forget something, one of us says "pregnancy brain!". I've forgotten a few things at work too, but luckily nothing so important as to have to tell my boss what's going on as I don't want to tell her until I have a better idea of what I'm going to do (stay or go) after the baby is born. I wonder if our brains become forgetful because they're just so busy making a baby?

I am ONLY four 1/2 weeks, and in the past 24 hours: 1) I locked my friends keys in his house while I was dog sitting 2) Called my husband to see if he had taken the keys with him, then immediately thought I left my cell phone in there too, when I was ON MY CELL with my husband, and 3) drove to my old work building in a totally different city, rather to the new one in a different state (drove right past the exit I need to take). If I am already this flakey, I am in a lot of trouble for the next 8 months!!!

robandcassie |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

Yes, it is REAL. If you look at the scientist who conducted the "research", it was, yes, a MAN. Ha. Like a guy should research prego brain. I am pregnant w/my third child, and with all my appointments, the two boys to keep straight, working & having a husband who is getting his BA (and expecting me to keep HIS schedule straight), I think I'm going insane this time. My PEDIATRICIAN'S office told me it is okay - after prego brain comes "parent brain", where you cannot even manage to say to your children something simple, like, "Will you please stop tipping your glass?" ... That is when Dads (finally) get it. I can totally empathize with everyone on this post!

LydeeC |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

you know it scares me to think what I will be like when I am pregnant. I am already spacey enough as it is. I forget what I am watching, walk into a room and forget why I am there, once I commented on how they removed all the pimientos from the olives and put them in a jar. My husband thought it was hilarious. If I am like that before "baby brain" kicks in, I fear what I will be like when it does!

pixieflower00 |

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I've had mommy brain for the past two years (after my first son was born). I think it's from sleep deprevation. Mythbusters did a show that compared being tired or drinking and then driving and sleep deprevation was actually worse. Since we need more sleep while pregnant, it only makes sense that could contribute to brain lapses.

I'm not one to buy-in to too much of these pregnancy symptoms, however, this is NO myth. I have officially lost my mind- from forgetting my ATM card in the ATM (never done this before) to forgetting to turn in monthly projections at work (yikes! again, never before) to forgetting to pay a bill (something I take very seriously). I am not missing out on any sleep- I get at least 8 to 10 hours each night and I take my vitamins religiously. I firmly believe my hormones have reduced my ability to focus- no scientific evidence, but that's what I think!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

My first pregnancy was terrible with the preggo brain thing. I do "planagrams" (organizing and set up of new products) for my work, and they have pictures and numbers for everything and I did it for years before, but as soon as I got pregnant it would take me hours to get one aisle done. I would just stare at the paper COMPLETELY confused about reading it or where anything went.. I would forget where we went to that day, what I ate for dinner the night before, ANYTHING. I was totally not here. It went away as soon as I had our baby, but now that I'm pregnant again, it's BACK. I'm much more tired this time though, so it's even worse. I've been forgetting to go to work, forgetting things in the oven, forgetting what I'm saying in mid-sentence..it's awful

OMG yeah I am so happy I am not alone because I get mad and I can't remember why i was mad. Like two days ago i was having an argument with my husband and we are heated and about 7 minutes in i had to keep quite because I couldn't remember what we were talking about AT ALL. All I remember is he kept saying "what are you talking about, that has nothing to do with what i am saying". Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I always boasted about my amazing memory. My mind is a steel-trap, I can remember anything, and my husband hates it. He is the opposite and he forgets everything, so he is totally thrilled that this "pregnancy brain" has caused me to lose my short-term memory. At my OB appt I left my insurance folder in the lobby & had to drive back 3 days later to get it. Just 2 days ago I lost my insurance card. I've forgotten bills to pay bills that are due, which I am normally on top of, etc. It's driving me crazy! Now I know what an idiot feels like, lol.

Yes. 100%no way out of it, it is. I didn't really understand what all these other girls were talking about, but it's real! I am 37 weeks, and have experienced a lot of pregnant brain moments. It can be anything from suddenly forgetting what you're doing one minute, to being so fatigued or tired that you find yourself subconscouncly moving.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I was the matron of honor in my sister-in-law's wedding and I forgot her ring in the back room where we were all getting ready! Luckily it was a small wedding and the mishap was appreciated by both bride and groom, but I blamed it all on "pregnancy brain"... I even have a hard time understanding things. At the grocery store the other day, my husband was trying to figure out the price difference of a 32 pack of water and a 24 pack of water. when he said "what is 32 minus 24?" I could not figure out what he was asking me! "pregnancy brain" is NOT a myth! lol

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I agree! Pregnancy brain is not a myth!! I'm a substitute teacher and I'm forgetting names of students and codes for copy machines that I've known forever...etc. I've never EVER had a problem with forgetting numbers or names. So I blame it on the pregnancy brain!! haha!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I totally believe in pregnancy brain. I am so incredibly forgetful.. Just a few days ago i sat down and took at least 45 minutes to sit, relax, and try to think of everything i needed to get done that i keep forgetting. I wrote it all down on a nice long organized to-do list. And then...what do ya know, i forgot where i put the list.

Thank goodness I am not alone. Sometimes feel as I am going nuts. I left the house and went to the store and by the time I got back the house was full of smoke I had turned on a pan before I left to the store and I don't even remember turning it on. Very scary.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

While my memory has never been great, I have noticed certain things in my head going haywire, especially if I try to multitask. Last week I was about to brush my teeth before going to work when I realize I hadn't put on deodorant. I stopped myself in just enough time to keep from putting the deodorant on my toothbrush. Time management is out the window, and if I don't write everything down I don't remember it. Luckily my husband still has his head on straight and has been able to hold me together. My suggestion is lean on your signifigant other, mom, best friend, or anyone close to you. Ask someone to help keep you straight. We are beign pulled in so many different directions that a little delegation couldn't hurt.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

No way.. Pregnancy brain is real. I think it's mostly cause by your mind thinking about everything that you have to do for the baby and before the baby gets here. There is SO much to get done you don't realize you're thinking about it sometimes.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I totally believe in this...I noticed it after my 1st son was born, and I feel that it even stuck with me after being pregnant. My mom, sister and always joke that we suffer from 'mom brain'. I can be reading my son a book and totally mix up the words. I am now pregnant with my 2nd and only 8 weeks in and realized that I have made mistakes at work just in the past few weeks that I would never make on any normal day. It's totally embarrassing and hope to regain some brain cells!

I am a teacher and I was concerned because none of my 6th graders showed up for their resource class at the end of the day. I thought my class went to the gym for the pep rally before being called to the gym. So I went to the office to find entire class. When I told the secretary that the whole class was missing, she looked at the master schedule and said, "This is your planning period, you don't have any students this period." I felt so stupid. But we both just laughed it off. The principal thought it was hilarious and shared it with the rest of the staff. I said, " I blame the pregnancy."

I definately have "baby brain"!! I was making a snack the other day, using peanut butter, and right after closing the peanut butter jar I thought to myself "what did I just do with that jar"....I could not find it anywhere and I JUST had it in my hands. I left for work and thought about it all day, not remembering where in the world I had put it. When I got home, I discovered I had put it in the cuboard where I keep my kitchen appliances, grocery sacks, etc. LOL!!!! Definately not where I normally put it.

It is definitely real! I was on my way out the door one day when I realized I felt awfully "free". Well the other day I was in a bit of a rush to make dinner, because I had somewhere I had to be. I was starving (along with the rest of my family.) I had just enough time to make dinner, eat and clean up before I had to leave...

Consumer Debt Consolidation | make money online

The first month of my pregnancy, I took my 8 year old son to karate class. I sat there the whole time watching him practice- I was not distracted by talking to other moms or texting on my cell phone...i just sat and watched. about "half" way though I got so annoyed with the instructor because class was running "late" and I wasnt going to have enough time to defrost my meat for dinner... Finally, it ended and I was so mad that we were behind schedule. Anyway, I talked to my son on the way home about all the new things he learned in class that day and the new kids that must have just joined.... TURNS OUT- I sat there through 2 classes! I just kept watching and have NO recollection of the end of class routine, or the begining of the 2nd class routine. I cant believe the instructor let my son stay for an advanced class....talk about spacey....that was scary!

Yea!!! It really is. I have been at my job for 10 years and I consider myself to be very organized and motivated. I am in my 18th week of my very first pregnancy and I can say for sure that this "pregnancy brain" does exist. It is not exaggeration! With all the things that mommy's to be need to think about: pregnancy, being healthy, birth plans, is it a boy/is it a girl, baby shoppping, raising a child! Its a wonder that we can function at all. Just do what I have been doing, blame it on the pregnancy. You get lots of sympathy points from mothers who have been there, and men who have kids, and even more from those who do not, and never want kids.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

Check out Louann Brizendine's work in the area of the female brain in her book "The Female Brain." She discovered that the female brain actually shrinks during pregnancy & she theorizes that it's because we have so many important lipids & fats that they are used to support the pregnancy. It's just a temporary thing. 6 months after delivery, the brain is back to where it was. Really interesting book & very readable.

I can vouch for this and say a big fat yes! I have had two experiences that made me realize I entered that zone. I was talkign to my husband's aunt about baby names and the aunt mentioned people having difficulty with her name. Bam.. I forgot her name! I, literally, had to stop and stand there for a few minutes before I could remember! I finally had her name back in my head and told her what happened. She thought it was hilarious while I freaked out. A second time was not remembering if I turned off my coworker's computer or not within an hour of actually doing it. Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I think it's real... before I even found out I was pregnant I was being very forgetful so I know I wasn't distracted or stressed about the pregnancy. This is my third pregnancy and with my first two I didn't notice it as much (they were both boy pregnancies... now I'm having a girl). That and sore breasts were my first clues to possibly being pregnant this time around, when just missing my period was the first sign with the boys.

Just this morning I was looking for my ginger snap cookies and couldn't find them so I sent my husband a text asking if he ate all my cookies. He responded NO. I couldn't find them anywhere...turns out they were right in front of me. I've gone in and out of the kitchen 3 times today meaning to take my prenatal vitamins and keep walking out of the kitchen wondering why I went in there in the first place. My husband no longer hands me his car keys cause I can't ever remember where I put them down...cause I can't remember to put them where they are suppose to go! Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

What one user (and evidently a Doctor on Oprah) says is true. The developing baby needs TONS of the Omega 3 fatty acid DHA, and will take what it needs straight from Mama. This is the fatty acid important for (among other things) brain development, so it makes sense that suddenly giving tons of it to baby will make you foggy! I started taking anywhere from 450 to 100 mg of DHA a day (you can get it at Whole Foods or any vitamin store) and let me tell you, it TOTALLY worked for me! I feel much much more alert and less forgetful. I just take it along with my prenatal.

I become a COMPLETE idiot every time I get stressed out. And I think that's because my brain isn't focusing on what I want to think about 100%. When we're pregnant, we ALWAYS have something on our minds, or in the back of our minds... OUR BABIES! So no wonder we get a bit forgetful or air headed.

I feel so much better after reading a few of these! I have my first Dr. appt. on Monday but I am calculating myself to be about 7 weeks. After brushing my hair this morning I carried the hair brush into the kitchen when I was going to get a drink, instead of even getting the drink I put the hairbrush in the fridge and walked back to my bedroom. Later on while at walmart (I have lived in the same town my whole life, this walmart is about 4 years old and I go weekly) I completely spaced out and couldn't remember how to get to the trash bag aisle. I have been thinking I was just completely losing it. If this is only going to get worse then I'm going to need help getting from place to place!!

So apparently pregnancy brain also makes you advertise a online gaming website on a baby site. Interesting....Anyways, my pregnancy brain has me leaving work stuff at my clients houses like my lap top cord, tape measure, sample case (which is a really big important thing) I also forget about laundry, what I need from the store, and small things I need to do throughout the day. Also makes me want to do a baby book but I get annoyed and can't decide on which way I want to do it since we do not know the gender yet. So I get indecisive.

I definitely lost my phone and was searching all over around my nightstand and getting super upset, before my hubby said "It's in your left hand..." Wow. That was the worst I've had so far.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

When I was pregnant with my 1st child I called it "butter brain"...I locked my keys in my car on 3 separate occassions during my pregnancy.... and now I'm pregnant with my 2nd child and here it is again. I spent 15 minutes the other day trying to spell the word "typical" and I'm normally an avid speller. So not ready for butter brain again.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I think "pregnancy brain" was my first pregnancy symptom! A coworker told me, she knew I was pregnant before I said anything, BECAUSE I was so flakey!!! Now, she just reminds me about everything. Its very helpful, I also write everything down. Its really bad, I'll talk to someone and go back 5 minutes later and try and have the same convo. Fact, not myth!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

Maybe that's why they say once it's over you forget it all. Literally because we can't remember anything during the pregnancy apparently. Haha

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I work at a school and this morning I could not for the life of me remember how to get in!! Seriously, I stood in front of the door absolutely dumb-founded by the concept of entering the building. Granted, I got no sleep last night between weird dreams and having to pee a million times, but still. And there were all these students standing around just watching me struggle with the mental workout that is opening a door. Finally, after what felt like an hour, my principal comes up behind me and is like "Here, let me help you" and simply opens the door. I could not have been more embarrassed, especially since I haven't yet told him I am pregnant! I just flipped my blonde hair and made a quip about running to the coffee maker the second I got in (which of course I didn't!). Thankfully, I have been pretty on my game at work...that is, of course, when I can get in the building! :-)

I am 11 weeks and have Def. Have seen an increase in baby brain behavior and random comments that even after I say them I realize how bizarre they are....I tell my husband its from lack of sleep (peeing every 5 minutes doesn't help) and trying to maintain my a game at work means he gets the majority of the baby brain symptoms when I'm home. At least I crack myself up at how ridiculous I can be ....gotta laugh it off!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I am 9 weeks pregnant, and I'm no longer driving because of Pregnancy Brain... I don't even trust myself. I stopped at red lights and treated them like stop signs. I'd be driving somewhere and forget where I was headed. I even drove to work, and did not even remember how I got there. I forgot my purse, keys, and work badge. I did not know it could be this bad lol! So yeah NO DRIVING FOR ME until after my baby is here!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I absolutely think its real. Insuffer from ADD and forgetfulness only when pregnant. As soon as the baby is born my brain goes back to normal. I an avid reader and I cant even concentrate enough during pregnancy to get through a single chapter of a book!

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

Only about 5 weeks along and I've forgot to clock in for work twice this week. I've only forgot to clock in once before in the whole year and a half that I had been working there. I can't think of simple words, sit there stuttering like an idiot trying to remember the word cat. Luckily no locking the keys in the car, I work at a car rental company so that would be really bad. First pregnancy, really hope it doesn't get worse.

Q&A: Is pregnancy brain real?

I am normally have a VERY short processing time. My brain works quickly and efficiently, and sometimes my hubby has trouble keeping up with me. Now that I'm pregnant, I say and do some of the dumbest things. Hubby loves it; he says pregnancy brain makes me "normal". This morning, for instance, I used the word "teached" instead of "taught", and I didn't even notice until he corrected me.
