Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I’ve heard so many different terms when it comes to miscarriages. What are the different types and what exactly happens during each?

Re: I’ve heard so many different terms when it comes to miscarriages. What are the different types and what exactly happens during each?

The Bump Expert

There are definitely many types of pregnancy loss, and sometimes the different terms can get confusing. Read on for some clarity and a brief explanation of what happens during each:

  • Chemical pregnancy: This occurs when the egg is fertilized but doesn’t implant itself or develop properly in your uterus. You may think you’re pregnant because of a missed period (and you could even have gotten a BFP recently), but an ultrasound will show no gestational sac or placenta.
  • Blighted ovum: Your doctor may call this an “anembryonic pregnancy.” What this means is that the fertilized egg attached to the wall of your uterus, and while it may have begun to develop a placenta, it didn’t develop into an embryo.
  • Missed miscarriage: This is when an embryo or fetus dies but doesn’t actually leave the uterus. A missed miscarriage is very rare, but when it happens, usually the only signs of it are a loss of pregnancy symptoms and/or brownish discharge. You can confirm a missed miscarriage if your doctor can’t find a heartbeat at your next ultrasound.
  • Incomplete miscarriage: An incomplete miscarriage happens when only some of the tissue leaves your vagina through heavy bleeding. You’ll experience bleeding and cramping while your cervix is dilated, and despite the fact that pregnancy tests might give positive results, the fetus hasn’t actually survived.
  • Threatened miscarriage: Any bit of vaginal bleeding can actually be a sign of a threatened miscarriage. In this instance, the cervix will remain closed and the baby’s heartbeat will still be detected. It’s important to note that in roughly half of these cases, women who encounter threatened miscarriages continue on to have healthy pregnancies.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a missed m/c. Heartbeat couldn't be found on our 2nd scan when there was one 2 weeks earlier. I had no symptoms that our baby had died and it was a real shock when going in for a routine u/s appointment which was suppose to be a happy time turned out to the worst time of my life.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had the same thing happen to me back in dec o8. I went in for my routine exam all happy and then the mood changed with a flip of a switch. had to go get a second opinion the next day which they confirmed. I felt so horrible. It is even harder when you are in the waiting room and see all these women with there little bumps. why can't that be me! but on the brighter side it has been 7 months and I just found out I am 6 weeks prego. I thought this would never happen but it did! now I just have to pray this one will grow into a healthy baby. I wish you lots of luck!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a missed mc back in Sept of 08. Went for my 16 week check-up, Dr. couldn't find heart beat, sent me for an ultrasound later that day and they confirmed. I had no idea anything was wrong, and no symptoms. It was the worst day of my life. But on the bright side, I am now 34 weeks pregnant with my son!! I still think about my first baby all the time though, he/she will always have a special place in my heart!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I went full 38 wks and it was june 26 , 08 and i was having really bad contractions that morning so i called my doctor and he told me to come in early that day ( i had a dr appointment) so i did and he checked me and i was dilated to an 8! we were so excited bc 2 days before he checked me and i was only dilated to a 2. so we went to the hospital and while they were putting the fetal monitor on me the nure was having a hard time finding his heart beat so they got the sono machine and checked and there was no heartbeat. so the doc asked me when was the last time he moved and i told him right before you checked me. so they rushed me into the OR for an emergancy c section and got our little levi out and tried to revive him for an hour and 15 mins. with no luck. i couldn't belive it. i got to see him after i had woken up from the surgery. he was so beautiful. we got to hold him and everything until 10 that night. then the next day they sent him off for an autopsy. only god knows why he is gone. I will always remember my precious baby boy. BUT god is an awesome god he blessed my husband and i with another baby boy. Which we will see in 4 weeks. i can't wait!! i will always remember my little levi and no one will ever replace him. he is too special and i will tell his little brother about him and what happened to him when he gets older and understands.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had two missed m/c's so to me they are not all that rare and then lost a twin with my next pregnancy. I am happy to report twin b survived and is walking around the house right now. :) I never thought I would have my happy ending after losing three babies in a row!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I have had a chemical pregnancy and a missed miscarriage. I don't see how a missed m/c can be so rare when I see them in peoples' signatures all the time! Having a missed m/c (well, any kind actually) royally sucks because I had no symptoms of anything being wrong and felt as pregnant as could be. I'm grateful for the fact that we found out early enough though.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

Wow, I just got home from the ER. We went in to my Drs. office today for our 8 week checkup. We were excited to see a heartbeat. Instead the doctor said there was no heartbeat and he couldn't find anything in our sac. He wanted me to come back in a week for another u/s. Instead I went straight to the ER and had a "formal ultrasound". They were able to see that the embryo stopped growing at 6 weeks and my hormone levels weren't increasing like they were supposed to. They've told me to expect a miscarriage or talk to my doc about a D&C (or DNC). Honestly, I'm glad we found out before I actually miscarried. And the better news is that this is very common and there's no reason not to try again as soon as we're ready. So, don't give up!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I'd also like to add on Ectopic and Molar pregnancies. Both are very rare, but serious medical conditions that result in a loss of the pregnancy. In an ectopic pregnancy, the embryo implants somewhere other than your uterus - usually in one of your fallopian tubes, which is why it's often referred to as a "tubal" pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies are a medical emergency and must be treated immediately; if an ectopic pregnancy ruptures, the mother's life is in danger. They are confirmed via ultrasound. The condition is treated with a drug called Methotrexate or by surgery. A molar pregnancy is a mass of abnormal tissue that mimics a pregnancy. Molar pregnancies are essentially non-cancerous tumors that develop in the uterus after a problem during fertilization. A woman will generally experience all the early symptoms of pregnancy, and the condition is generally treated with a D&C.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I'm worried that I lost my baby. I have an ultrasound on wednesday but I don't want to wait until wednesday to find out for sure because I start work training on monday and I feel like if I did miscarry I will need to have some time where I can just cry without having to pretend I'm alright. Before you miscarried did anyone feel like something was wrong? I know that having pregnancy symptoms and then losing them is a sign of miscarriage but the only symptoms I had were sore breasts, mood swings, fatigue, and when I have to pee I don't realize how much I have to pee until I go to the bathroom. I really don't want to wait until wednesday but I feel like my mom will try either underreact and tell me I'm worrying excessively or she'll be overly concerned and smother me.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

We found out we were prego with our first baby on our first wedding anniversary in July. We were both so happy and excited and told our immediate families right away. Everything seemed to be going fine and all my blood work was normal, so at 9 weeks we decided to tell all of our friends and the people I work with. Then at 12 1/2 weeks I had a bit of bleeding and my husband took me to the ER. They did an u/s and found that there was no heart beat and the baby had stopped growing at around 8 1/2 weeks. I was diagnosed as having a missed m/c. We were both devistated. We decided to try to let the POC pass on their own, but after almost 2 weeks of waiting we needed some closure and to try to move on with our lives, so I had a D&C earlier this week. The Dr said to wait at least until I have 2 regular periods before we start to try again, but I don't know if I will be ready yet then.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I believe I just had an incomplete miscarriage over the weekend. I found out my husband and I were pregnant on Sep. 22 (my first pregnancy) and then on Oct. 1 I began cramping and bleeding really badly. My Doctor wanted to see me right away and did a vaginal ultrasound and found out I was about 4-5 weeks pregnant. Becuase I was so early she couldn't tell if anything was wrong but ordered me to rest. She also told me that because my breasts were no longer sore that that was a bad sign. I continued to cramp and bleed through the night and started passing tissue the next day. I definitely miscarried. I am still bleeding and have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow. I may need a D&C since I'm not sure if I passed all the tissue. My husband and I are devastated but know that God must have a different plan for us. Hopefully we can start trying again soon.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I have recently experienced a m/c due to chemical pregnancy. We are so sad but are trusting that God has a plan and a purpose for us and that our baby is with Him.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I was 11 weeks and had what I think must have been a missed m/c this week. I had bleeding a week ago but it went away. I started bleeding again and this time it was heavy with clotting. When the ER finally did the U/S the baby and sac were gone. I was devastated because after seeing the heartbeat at 7 weeks I was confidant that things were good. I had a bad feeling all week that something wasnt right. My intuition was correct. I wish I had gotten the ultrasound a week ago now that I know. I wouldnt wait if you are concerned.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a missed m/c the day after Christmas. This was my first pregnancy and I thought I was doing everything right. I made it almost to 9 weeks. Over two weeks ago I had seen the heartbeat and then when I started spotting two days ago I tried not to panick knowing some spotting can occur. I called my doctor who made a point to see me in the office on Sunday. I knew right away. There was the sac but nothing was moving like before. About 6 hours later I finally started bleeding. I have never seen my husband cry and I pray this is the only time God tries us with this. I think next time we will keep the pregnancy a secret until I have to tell people.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

Yesterday we experienced a m/c at 6 weeks. We had only officially known we were pregnant for a week, but are still very saddened by our loss. I went to the ER where they confirmed the m/c. During the ultrasound they doctor saw no evidence of a gestational sac or placenta and said they are worried about the chances of it being a ectopic pregnancy, I have to go back in to tomorrow to have my hcg levels tested to make sure they are going down. I had asked my ER Dr. if I had experienced a chemical pregnancy, and she had no clue what I was referring to...a little frustrating. By the sounds of it I am almost certain it was a chemical pregnancy. No matter the type of m/c, it is a hard thing to go through. We are trying to stay positive and keep in mind that everything happens for a reason...and are going to start TTC in two cycles.

AubnAaron | February 07 , 2010 12:22 PM

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

Also had a m/c at 6 weeks. Had only known for a week. My dr. said there was nothing at all that I did wrong or could have done differently, it just happens. Of course, that doesn't make it any easier. She took a blood sample to check hcg levels & they were only 53 by that point, should've been in the thousands if the pregnancy was continuing. I have to go back in a couple days to recheck the levels to make sure they are going down. In the course of a week, we went from shock, to excitement, to love, to complete devastation. It's been a huge roller coaster. Part of me wants to try again, but part of me is terrified that I cannot go through this a 2nd time.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

In Nov 2009, I was in week 17 expecting to find out gender at the scheduled dr's appointment. Instead, to our devastation was a missed miscarriage where our little boy had no heartbeat. We were sent to a perinatologist to double check the ob's findings. Two days later, I had a D&C. Before the scheduled D&C, the meds kicked in a few hours before in the middle of the night. Our baby boy came out at home and this is how we found out the gender. We had an opportunity to see, hold, bless, and say good-bye to him. Some day we will see him in heaven. I miss our little boy. Today has been hard again and thus, I'm on this site. We are trying again, but it still hasn't been easy, especially when so many people are due in April as I would have been. God is sovereign and good. In His time...

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I think I had a chemical pregnancy during my last cycle. AF was 10 days late however I never got a positive test for pregnancy. AF was very unusual, very light bleeding and heavy cramping and no other symptoms. 24 days later AF is back and the bleeding is heavy and more normal, except for all the clotting. I am wondering if anyone who has had a chemical pregnancy can shine any light on my situation?

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I am having heavy bleeding clots and mild cramps but ob did not check for heart beat or do a u/s. He said it was to early at 7 weeks just to check hcg levels. And I have to wait till monday to get results.WAITING SUCKS. I can't get excited because my baby maybe gone already. God is a mighty and great God but I sure hope he hears my simple prayer. Have mercy on me Lord.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a missed miscarraige, i had no symptons, everything felt fine, i went to docs with my mate for my 18 week heartbeat check, and they couldnt hear it so sent me to hosp for a scan i was told that the baby was probably behind my placenta, so wasnt worried, then scan confirmed worst fears my baby had died, it had stopped growing at 14 weeks, then at 19 weeks i had to go through labour to give birth to my baby, its the most distressing thing ive ever been through, i feel mentally, emotionally and physically empty since its happened!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a missed miscarriage at 14 weeks. We went for a routine ultrasound, and I saw my baby just like floating around. There was no heartbeat. I went for a D&C later that day. I bled and bled and bled for the next month...huge amounts. I had NEVER ever been in so much pain. I was on Viocodin for months. That was in October, and I still have issues. I still cry about it all the time. Hardest thing in my life. I feel for every woman that has had to go through this. Stay strong ladies.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I was supposed to be 10 weeks last Thursday. Went in for an ultrasound on Friday and there was no heartbeat. The tech had no problems finding the baby or heart, just no heartbeat. I had blood work down to check my HCG levels, and they are in fact decreasing. I've had no miscarriage symptoms and looking at the US, my baby died around a week and a half ago. I'm scheduling a D & C if it doesn't come about naturally in the next couple of days.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a missed m/c as well. I went in for an ultrasound at 9 weeks and the doctor was unable to see a heartbeat. As soon as the baby came up on the screen I knew something was wrong because I didn't see the little flutter of it's heart like we did at the first ultrasound. They sent us to the hospital for a more advanced ultrasound and the results were the same. It was horrible to see the flat line when they place the monitor over the baby's heart. The measurments showed that the baby had passed away only 3 days before the ultrasound. My husband and I decided to see if my body would handle it on its own but after about two weeks of just spotting I decided to have a D&C. Everyone says everything happens for a reason and God has a plan for us...and although I am a firm believer. I find myself very resentful and depressed. I am trying to be positive and thankful that our sweet little baby is in a better place but it is so hard when all I want to do is hold it in my arms. Everyone says ....your still young you can have another baby but what they don't realize is how much you love that tiny little baby from the second that pregnancy test says positive and that it wasn't just some clinical term "embryo" or "fetus" that's my child. Praying for the strength to get through this....glad I have the support of my loving husband.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I lost my baby boy at 36 weeks. I had a perfectly normal pregnancy, alot of morning sickness but no concerns through out. In all the ultra sounds the baby looked healthy. On my 36th week check up my doc was trying to listen to the heartbeat but could not find one, she sent me to the ultrasound room and they still couldnt find his heart beat. Two night prior to that i had a dream that my child had died.. i could not beleive this was happening. I went through labor and delivery .. what was supposed to be one of the most happy days of my life turned into a living hell. birth is supposed to be giving life and it was the opposite. it took two long weeks to find out what went wrong. he had tetraploidy which gives the baby 96 chromosomes instead of 48. normally babies with this condition miscarry. having the baby that long was a blessing because i went through the miracle of pregnancy and learned how to love someone else more than myself. it took two long years to get over the grief that came with this and re discover myself. i am now 6 weeks pregnant and very hopeful for a happy healthy baby.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I started having heavy bleeding with clots yesterday. I went to my doctor today and the baby is still there and has a heartbeat but he said it is a threatened misscarriage. I go back on Monday to be rechecked. We lost our baby at two days old in Jan of 09 which broke our hearts, so of course we are really excited about this baby. With God all things are possible, I pray He is protecting this baby.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I remarried about a year ago and found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks afterwards... I got to see the heartbeat and moveing in my ultrasound at eight or so weeks, so as some of the others I have read assumed everything was fine. At 11 1/2 weeks I felt strange and told my mom I didnt 'feel' pregnant.. it was weird. the next day I bled so I went to the emergency room and they told me there was no heartbeat. The worst part was the nurse didnt turn the U/S screen and I saw it lifeless on the screen and still a little body. The doctor said it had most likely happened in the few days before and that the baby looked 11 weeks or so. I felt guilty and hated it, but after carrying it for another week waiting to see if nature took its course I finally had a D&C... I cried in and out for a long time. I am now happy to say I am almost 8 weeks pregnant again and we are excited all over again. I still fear hitting the 11 or 12 week mark and hearing or seeing my baby before its a 'sure' thing which it never is. I hope all goes well for us and we get thru it. I will never forget the angel I never met.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had taken 2 HPT on Aug 26, 2010 and went to the dr on 8.31.10 to have it confirmed. They did a urine test and that also came back positive. On 9.5.10 I had some spotting but thought it was typical until I woke up this morning (9.6.10) and was having cramping like I was having a period. My mom is a nurse and was working in the ER today so DH called her to tell her what was going on and after a few phone calls back and forth, she told us to come in. Lots of blood work and an u/s later, it turns out it was a chemical pregnancy. With a chemical pregnancy, there isn't even an embryo growing but you get the symptoms of pregnancy and when you do "miscarry" it is the same as if there was a baby growing. For me, the dr thinks that because it happened so quickly after I stopped my b/c (2 weeks after) that was the most likely cause for it being a chemical pregnancy. My MIL already said "I know how hard this is for you" but she really doesn't because she's never had to go through this before....pretty frustrating. But the dr said that because I'm young and healthy to wait at least 1 cycle before trying again.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a chemical pregnancy this past week and I really wish that I had known that these existed before we started TTC! I waited to take a pregnancy test until I was a week late, and when I did, it came back positive. That was a Sunday. I was supposed to leave the following weekend for a big trip so my doctor had me come in and take a test on Tuesday to confirm. She ran the test twice and once came back negative and once came back only very slightly positive. She took blood then and on Thursday and over those two days my HCG had actually gone down, so she declared it "not a good pregnancy." Sure enough, Thursday night my period came. So I guess I'm back to square one. I wish someone had told me ahead of time that those over the counter tests CAN be misleading! Has anyone else who's has a chemical pregnancy noticed that the period right after is extra extra heavy?

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a blighted ovum. I went in at six weeks and all was fine. I didn't have an ultrasound but my uterus was growing normally. I went in at ten weeks and my uterus had not grown. So my doctor sent me for an internal ultrasound and they didn't see a heartbeat. That was in July of 09. Now we are 5 weeks and 2 day. I started bleeding yesterday. But it stopped this morning. At my doctors appointment yesterday they told me it didn't sound like a miscarriage...so hopefully it is only spotting.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I just had a blighted ovum. Went in for our 8 week ultrasound Tuesday and found out. Like a couple of the other girls, I'm happy that I found out before I actually started cramping bad and bleeding; I think that would have been even worse. I officially lost everything overnight last night. Pretty much the worst feeling ever. Hoping to try again as soon as all is well again and a go.. But I didn't think losing a baby that never even developed would be this hard, especially so early.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

My best friend has just experienced three chemical pregnancies in a row. I feel so awful for her. The doctors keep telling her it's a fluke every time and that it won't happen again. So every time she gets pregnant, she gets excited all over again. And now she just lost a third one this last Friday. :( Has anybody else experienced this? And if so, how long until you had a successful pregnancy? I hate seeing her go through this over and over again. Especially since I got pregnant right away and have had no problems. I know that must be hard for her to see and I wish she were having as easy of a time with this as I fortunately have been...

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

Ladies, I am sorry for all your losses. I also had a missed miscarriage back in December 08. Its been 2 years and 1 month exactly. It feels so great to come on here and see that other people can relate to what I have gone through. I went for my 12 week appointment and the baby was only measuring at 10 weeks and there was no heartbeat. Went to the hospital the next day to have it confirmed. I have been TTC for awhile now and haven't yet. I've also made some videos on youtube talking about my miscarriage. You are all in my hearts, its such a terrible tragedy to go through.

misspai66 | January 11 , 2011 6:07 PM

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I recently had a missed miscarriage this past December. I work in the ER and my friends and I frequently ultrasounded our pregnant bellies. This last time we did mine there was no heart beat. I was 12.5 weeks and at that point theres never any reason not to see a hr. I had an appointment the following day and sure enough the baby stoped devloping at 10 wks. I'm pretty sure it didn't stop living until just around the 12 wk mark bc we saw it moving and heart beating at work. My husband and I were absolutely devestated. The pregnancy came as a surprise to us but we were so excited! To loose that piece of our hearts was one of the worst experiences of my life. I had a scheduled D&C the following day and then ended up in the ER a week later from contractions and hemorrhaging. Spent the night in the hospital but was able to go home the next day. We're just praying we don't have to go through all of that again. Heart goes out to all that have experienced similar stoires! Its good to know we're not alone. Not sure when we'll start

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I'm dissapointed to see there is no mention of stillbirth on this website. No one talks about them. Miscarriage and stillbirths are very different. While both involve pregnancy loss, miscarriage is prior to 20 weeks and stillbirth is after 20 weeks. Sadly, our son was stillborn in July at 33 weeks. Umbilical cord accident. I was healthy, my son was healthy. They say it was just an accident. It happens and no one talks about it. I'm 11 weeks pregnant now and scared to death. Thrilled, but I worry everyday. Please help me educate others. I never thought this could ever happen to me being as far along in my pregnancy as I was. It did.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I am 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I have my 10 week ultrasound in 3 days and I'm really nervous because I have almost no pregnancy symptoms at all. I had an ultrasound at week 7; saw the heartbeat & everything looked fine/normal. I had some nausea off and on, but that is already gone, and my breasts are sore, but are starting to feel better too. I am just nervous that I am not feeling "pregnant enough" to still be pregnant. Any advice?

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I am very scared after reading some of these posts. I am 10 1/2 weeks and a few days ago I started bleeding. I went to see my OB the same day & she did any ultrasound & babies heartbeat was perfect and baby was growing accordingly. She said 1 in 4 woman experience unknown bleeding. I still feel very pregnant but anytime I start having any cramps I begin to worry that something might be wrong. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

My boyfriend & I were expecting last November..My 23rd birthday was Nov 13th..I had made plans to go out with all of my girlfriends for a few drinks & whatnot..and found out I was pregnant the same week of my birthday..we were SO very excited..I made my doctors apt. and found out I was about 5-6 weeks along..everything was going fine..I started having some cramping/bleeding..but my Dr told me it was normal in the first stages of pregnancy, plus I had a few girlfriends who were also pregnant the same time..who have had the same symptoms also..so I didn't worry..My boyfriend & I went in for an ultra sound when I was about 8.5 weeks to check things out..and found out that I had a missed MC..I was so devastated..it's been over a year now, and we're planning on TTC very soon..within the next couple of months! Iam so very scared because I don't want to go through that ever again..but I see, and know of so many people who HAVE gone through this..and HAVE had the chance to have beautiful children!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I got pregnant in early Jan, 2 months after going off the pill. My hubby and I were so excited! Everything was going well, and we waited until 9 weeks, after my first OB appointment, to tell all our friends and family. Unfortunately, my first ultrasound at 12 weeks showed no heartbeat, and that the baby was about 8 weeks. I had a D&C the next day. I was actually really glad that we told everybody... it would have been far worse to go through everything alone, or to just tell people later that I had a miscarriage without the excitement of getting to share that I was pregnant. It was great to have such a strong support system. Now, it's been 5 weeks since my D&C, and I hope I'm pregnant again right now!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

On 4/28 I went for my first prenatal appointment at 10w, 4d to hear the heartbeat. That morning, I had some brownish discharge, so I informed the nurse and my OB. They could not pick up a heartbeat, so they sent me to the hospital for an U/S. The U/S confirmed that the baby had stopped developing around 5w, 4d. They told me to come back in the following week for blood tests to determine if my hormone levels were dropping. After the bloodwork appointment, I went home and developed severe, contraction-like cramps, and ended up passing all of the tissue. I was very disappointed in my OB because no one informed me of what to expect, or what my options were. They just said I'd have to come back in for blood tests. It was a rather traumatic experience. Now I'm waiting for my hormone levels to drop so we can start trying again. This was my first pregnancy, and was unplanned, but it made us realize how badly we want to have children! It doesn't seem like missed m/c's are that rare based on all the testimonies I've read on here and other sites. Good luck everyone!

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I am currently in the middle of a missed miscarriage. We found out at our 12wk appt that the baby stopped deveoping at 10wks. I still haven't started to bleed and am going to go in for a D&c on Monday. It has been a very emotional 5days for my husband and I dealing with this knowing our baby is dead and it's just staying in there. This is why I have decided not to use the wait it out approach. It's too painful and emotional. I am nervous for the D&C but it's the best choice for us.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a missed m/c at 12 weeks, I had gone in for a regular ob appointment! She had gotten the doppler to check for a heartbeat and NOTHING. They sent me to do an ultrasound and NOTHING. From the ultrasound and all of the measuring, the baby only measured 10 weeks. I had an ultrasound at 9 weeks by the ER to confirm that everything was okay after a bad accident. This was in January and I'm still having a hard time dealing with it. Im hoping that I dont have to deal with this again, especially now that I'm actually trying this time.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

The world can feel like a lonely place after a miscarriage, especially during the holiday season. But specific tried and true tactics may help you feel at least a little bit better.-Guy Riordan

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I've had a threatened miscarriage five months ago and I suffered a terrible depression. I've isolated myself and started to drink and to take drugs. After three months my husband convinced me that I need a specialized help and he took me to one of the Sacramento drug rehab centers. Now I am feeling good but I am thinking to try to get pregnant again. Does anybody knows if it is recommended to get pregnant so soon after finishing a drug rehab treatment?

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I had a blighted ovum November 2011, I had never heard of it before. The morning of our 12 week scan i started to bleed but the truth is I knew something was not right for a month, I just stopped feeling pregnant but when I spoke to people about it they just assumed i was being paranoid...now i know something was wrong. Blighted Ovums are awful as your placenta is still growing and if you were to take a pregnancy test it would still be positive. I total mind screw. Ours stopped growing at 7 weeks so for 5 weeks everyone thought everything was okay. We started TTC beginning of January but as of yet we are not pregnant. I am scared that we will miscarry again, the innocense of being pregnant has now gone and it is just scary...not exciting. I can only hope that children are in our future and I will be able to make my husband a father and become a mother; it is all we want and we want it so badly. I guess it is out of our hands and can only hope.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I have been pregnant 3 times b4 and am now pregnant with my fourth.... My first pregnancy was stillbirth at 28 weeks, beautiful baby girl. Second pregnancy was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks had to have a D&C. Third was ectopic. now almost 8 weeks on the fourth and hoping everything goes right this time around..... doctors can not give me an explanation for all these losses. Guess we will just wait and see what God has in store for me this time around.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I am between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant and had to visit the ER yesterday after a few hours of moderate to mild bleeding. The docs ran many tests, took blood, gave me multiple u/s, and left with me only two conclusions. One being that it is still too early to detect anything (despite the doc feeling that at 5-6 weeks there should be something more), and the other being that I have a blighted ovum (anembryonic pregnancy). The doc order an ultrasound for one week from yesterday and informed me at that time we would be able to determine what is going on and what steps to take next (i.e., potential D&C). This is my first pregnancy (potential faux pregnancy) and it has my head reeling in a 101 different directions; I don't know what to feel, how to respond, or what to say to my family. Hopefully we will get the answer we are looking for in one week.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

I now realize that I had a missed m/c at 9 weeks. I went for an u/s at 8 weeks and the baby only measured ~6 weeks with a very low fetal heartbeat (54 BPM.) I went back 8 days later and the baby's heartbeat was gone. The only warning signs were loss of pregnancy symptons (sore breasts, particularly) and a brownish discharge. My D&C was performed the day after my follow-up u/s with no complications. Good luck to everyone.

Q&A: What are the different types of miscarriages?

My husband and I went to the confirm apt. on April 18th (Measured 5.5 weeks). We saw the sac and a speck. We followed up with our second apt on May 11th due to work scheduling and we found out there was not a heart beat (Measured 8 weeks). My last period was March 2nd. So I should have been masuring 9 to 10 weeks. Seemed like maybe something was wrong from the go since measuring small. I am now scheduled for a D&C Monday. Scared as hell because they put you under. And scared how my emotional state will be when I wake up. I love reading everyones posts. They put me at ease that I am not alone and others like my husband and I have gone through this. We look forward to become pregnant again for I know our hearts have plenty of respect and love for the next. Thanks for all the previous posts!! It all helps!!
