What are some warning signs of a miscarriage?

Re: What are some warning signs of a miscarriage?

The Bump Expert

The only way to know for sure if you’ve had or are experiencing a miscarriage is to be examined by your doctor, but it’s always good to know for yourself what kinds of symptoms you should look out for. Here’s a rundown of some of the major warning signs:

[ ] Heavy bleeding
While many women experience spotting at some point during their pregnancies, you should ask your doc if you’ve noticed any clotting. (It’d look like heavy bleeding, followed by tissue.)

[ ] Loss of pregnancy symptoms
Often the only sign of pregnancy loss is the sudden disappearance of pregnancy symptoms altogether (morning sickness, sore boobs, etc.). If you suddenly don’t “feel pregnant,” you may want to look into it.

[ ] White-pink mucus-y discharge

[ ] Pain or cramping in the center of the lower abdomen or back
A tired back or occasional discomfort is normal, especially for pregnant moms, but if your pain persists, don’t ignore it. A good way to gauge what is or isn’t normal is to compare your pain to normal cramps you might get during your period. If the pain’s much stronger, you should probably get checked out.

[ ] Weight loss

[ ] Painful contractions
Some women experience more than just cramping. If you’re experiencing painful contractions between 5 to 20 minutes apart, this could be the sign of premature labor.

If you’ve experienced any or all of the above symptoms, call your doctor immediately to schedule an exam and seek further advice.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I did not have a single "sign." Today would've been 10th week of a very healthy pregnancy, no weight gain, perfect hormone levels. I didn't have morning sickness, aches, spotting; everything was perfect. I went in yesterday to hear a heartbeat and the doctor said the embryo died at 6 weeks and 5 days. This type of missed miscarriage is exceedingly rare. They gave me medicine to initiate evacuation, they no longer do D & C, only if this medicine doesn't work. I also got strong narcotics and anti-nausea medicine. Bleeding started within 2 hours of inserting 4 pills down there, then vomiting and awful pain. I've been bleeding since and on Tuesday will go to doc to confirm that D & C is not needed. M/C came completely out of the blue for me as I did not have a single symptom! My body still thinks it was pregnant 3 weeks after the embryo was already dead; crazy!

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

for me, the bleeding was the most tell tale sign - after 10 weeks and a heartbeat, the baby just stopped growing. Obviously I had an ultrasound to confirm prior to the D&C. The bleeding was not heavy and I didn't notice tissue - just seemed like a light period. And, the pregnancy symptoms went away almost magically - which made me feel guilty for being so heartbroken over the miscarriage and yet feeling so much better physically without pregnancy symptoms. it's a complicated business.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

First of all I never had many symptoms throughout the pregnancy. No nausea, no tiredness, just hungry and sensitive nipples - i thought i was lucky! I was 9 weeks when I started spotting brown on the Saturday. Turned into full on bleeding later that day with cramping. Went to ER, cervix was closed. Told me to come back if it got worse. Sunday it got worse! more blood & more painful cramping which became contractions. Back to the ER - Bloodwork done to check HCG levels. Monday more blood & contractions & an Ultrasound. Said it looks like only 5 weeks size not 9. Results inconclusive whether it was a miscarriage or just normal 1st trimester bleeding. Tuesday more blood and contractions, took T3's as directed by Doc. Wednesday even more blood and ridiculously painful contractions. did bloodwork and then went straight to doc for results. The Hcg did drop from Sun to Wed, so I finally had an answer: "yes this is a miscarriage". So then we were talking about how long this pain would last and that i'd have to go back to the ER and ask for a D&C, when i stood up and felt a gush. went to the toilet and sure enough - big clots like a cherry! Blood like crazy dripping down my leg, very scary. Showed the doc and then she said "well I guess you don't need a D&C now, looks like you passed it yourself!!" Went home. Today is Thursday and the bleeding is way less. Still some clotting and cramping but it looks like this nightmare is over. It's so sad though!

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was 9 weeks when I lost the baby. I had gone in for my first Doctors appointment at 8 weeks and they did an ultra sound. The baby was too small and had stopped growing at around the 5 week mark. I then had to go in for a blood test and a follow up one two days later. I had to wait 4 days to find out if the baby was healthy or not. Just agony! The result weren't good and it showed that the baby had died. I didn't have any morning sickness during the pregnancy. I was just very tired, had soar nipples and oh, the exhaustion. I didn't have any cramping, I just felt little twinges of pain here and there, but it would go away. My body wouldn't miscarry, so my Doctor to me I needed to go in for a DNC. It has been over a week and I am still bleeding, but the pregnancy feeling is gone. This has been the most painful time of my life.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was 5 weeks when I started bleeding. It was very light bleeding, so I did not even think about a miscarriage. I had bloodwork done and my HCG levels were going down. Went to get a second ultrasound and my uterus was completely empty. I never had any real pregnancy symptoms and feel like this should have given me a clue that something was wrong. I have been in agony ever since. I feel ashamed, depressed, like a big failure.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Our little one stopped developing around week 8. However, I didn't have any symptoms until I was 12.5. I had some brown discharge around noon Tuesday that turned pink/light red by the time I went to bed. I woke up Wednesday morning around 2am with burning cramps that kept getting worse. By the time I'd talked to my doctor and gotten to the hospital for an ultrasound, I was having contractions every 4 mins. The bleeding started later that afternoon.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was 5w 4d and started spotting a light brown. A day later, it was on and off, but still light. I called the nurse and was told it was implantation bleeding. The next day, I had heavy bleeding and I just knew it was over. I went in for an u/s and there was nothing but a small sac. When my heavy bleeding started, my sore boobs weren't sore anymore, which I knew was a bad sign too. This is about the worst feeling to lose something I would already have done anything for.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Hi, my honey & I had thought I was going into week 10 of pregnancy & I went to bathroom only to wipe & see a tinge of pink. I waited about 15 hours & I started to get menstrual type cramps & small bright red clots. I went to ER, US indicated an empty sac and only about 5 weeks along. No heartbeat. ER doc said "it looks like your baby is dead". I went to follow up with my OBGYN, she says she can't rule it as a m/c. My HCG levels is over 9000 & it could be implantation bleeding or I lost a twin. any other women experience this?

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

My Husband and I lost our baby at 7 weeks. My symptoms were this: severe cramping in my uterus and back, almost as if it was throbbing pain. Reduced mobility from the pain. Some bleeding, not heavy as a period but would drip out when sat on toilet. I passed several blood clots that were small, never passed the baby tissue. I experienced a migraine on the last day of the bleeding and alot of extra mucuos in my head and lungs. I bled and experienced the cramping for 2 days. Went to the Clinic the monday after christmas (i lost the baby on Christmas), I got my hormones level tested to find it was at 2800 (supposed to be 7500 for a 7 week baby). The next day tested my blood again to find it drop down to 1200. I go in for a D & C this wednesday to get the tissue removed. After the 2 days of cramping and bleeding, I had zero pregnancy symptoms. It was as if nothing happened, and I'm back to being not pregnant. Its very frustrating when you try for a year and a half just to lose the first baby you were able to conceive. This is a struggle us as women are forced to deal with if we to jump into the next phase of life. I wish everyone good luck in their journey's. My husband and I will be trying again as soon as we are able too.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I also had not had the known symptons. I was 13 weeks when I just felt something wasn't right. I had been very sick with this pregnancy. More so than I remembered being with my son, who is now 12. I had a little brown spotting, which I was told was normal but I went to the ER anyways. Because of paperwork issues, I had not yet been in for my first prenatal visit. I knew when the tech did the ultrasound in complete silence that the baby didn't make it. The baby had stopped developing at 6 weeks- I was 13 weeks!! My body had done nothing to rid the baby. I also took the anal pills- nothing. After a few days, they gave me pills to take orally. After a day of taking them, I was thrown into what felt pretty much like labor. I was on the floor, double-overed. It took me well over a week to pass all the blood and tissue. Looking back, I would have insisted on a D&C. That was a terrible, drawn-out experience. I just couldn't believe that the baby had died so early, and I carried the baby for over a month without so much as a sign. I am now pregnant again, 5 weeks. I am scared and worried. As I had no symptons with my previous miscarriage, I just feel like I won't know if this baby doesn't make it. I was rear-ended at a stoplight yesterday and was taken to the ER. It brought back raw memories of my last visit to the ER. I am just praying that this baby is healthy and that my pregnancy is going well. I will have my first prenatal appt by week 9 this time. Paperwork or not.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was so happy to be pregnant. Finally, my husband was ready to have a child. I was 5-5 and had a morning pee. There was light pink spotting. I didn't think anything of it, since that is normal. Later that day I had some cramps, also normal. I got home after work and had another pee. I had red red blood. Went to the doctor did a pee test, she told me I had a urinary tract infection, and she perscribed some anti-biotics. I expressed my concern of a MC, she dismissed it. All evening my bleeding got heavier. The doctor told me UTI infections also cause blood. 3am the next morning I was so scared for baby I couldn't sleep anymore. I ended up passing large clots, and my sore boobs were back to normal. Doctors don't always know best. She should have examined me and sent me for an U-S. Listen to your body, usually it's right.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had brown spotting yesterday, and couldn't sleep last night because of pressure and slight cramping. (I'm at 7 weeks.) The blood was heavier this morning, with small clots, and my breasts are suddenly not tender. I already had my first prenatal appt scheduled for this afternoon, so I'll still go in, though I'm certain it will be a much different appointment than I'd anticipated.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Okay.. I must must must tell my story. According to my LMP I am almost 9 weeks. I had an HSG done by my fertility specialist on April 25th. I got pregnant shortly after that. They did vaginal ultra sounds and checked HSG levels, everything looked good. Last week (week 7) My fertility specialist said it doesn’t look like there is any fetal development and referred me back to my OBGYN. He agreed with the fertility specialist diagnosis and scheduled me for a D & C. The day before the D & C we went for one more ultra sound just to make sure. The technician said everything looked good (no fetal development), but she said why rush? She asked us about our HCG levels. We haven’t done any in a while to see if they dropped. So they took blood. The next day they called, my HCG levels went up. (June 6th- 47 thousand & June 15th- 55 thousand) We have another ultra sound next Tuesday. I have had no spotting, cramping, or bleeding. My question is, can this happen to people? Can their baby develop slowly? My doctor is so convinced I’m going to miscarry that he said he’ll eat my chart if the baby develops.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I miscarried between 4 and 5 weeks in early July and became pregnant again two weeks later. During the pregnancy that resulted in miscarriage, I had some lower back pain and assumed that this was an indication. I am now 6 weeks pregnant and had the same lower back pain (with hip pain) around 4-5 weeks again, and have had it a day here or there since then. My doctor said these pains are completely normal, as the uterus is growing to accommodate the embryo. She told me I should feel as if I am getting my period, and this discomfort is caused by progesterone, which is sustaining the pregnancy. My doctor also told me that the lower back and hip pain is due to the stretching of round ligaments to prepare the body for the baby! :) So for all of you worryworts out there (like me!)... take comfort in knowing that lower back pain and cramping is not always a sign of impending miscarriage. Much luck to all!!

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Hi to all out there who have experienced the hurt and loss... Its not an easy path to walk. I had gone through 3 IUI's in 2009. My last IUI was done in November, and on December 26th I was informed by lab results from the doctor that I most definitely was pregnant. Though i didn't know how far along I was. I went in 3 weeks later to find that I had a gestational sac measured at 9weeks but a yolk sac at about 5wks..no fetal pole. They called it a blighted ovum. All of a sudden during those days I had very sore bbs then nothing. The loss of the symptoms scared me. I never had morning sickness. Well I'm getting married this coming may and surprise surprise I just found out on the 25 of august that I was indeed 5wks,6days pregnant. I have pcos and was anovulatory. This was a natural pregnancy, most definitely a shock!! Well I'm here at 7 weeks now and nervous and scared out of my mind that I'm losing this baby... My symptoms keep coming and going.. I go for my 2nd U/S to hopefully hear the heart beat... I still think of that would have been baby in 2009. It makes me crazy... I don't want to hurt again... I keep hoping ill see that beautiful HB this coming week.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I started bleeding (not too heavy, but enough to scare me) on 12/12. I spent 3 hours waiting in an ER before they got me back. They poked, prodded, handed me Rx for prenatal vitamins and discharged me before the Dr. had even talked to me!! After going to a 2nd ER and receiving much better treatment, I was told my quant was lower than expected of a 10 week pregnancy and the ultrasound revealed a 6wk embryo with out a heartbeat... they keep saying I must have my dates wrong and I have to redraw my blood tomorrow. I'm sorry, but I keep track of these things, I am not an idiot we were ttc and I know when we did conceive. So now I cannot sleep I am scared to death to have my blood drawn because I feel it deep down inside of me that they are going to tell me I have to have "the procedure." WTH?! I am very angry and scared right now. Let all of the crack heads, welfare tramps and abusive scum of the earth pop out babies like pez dispensers, but normal, healthy, hardworking people cannot keep theirs. I know I will get over this eventually and we can try again, but I am so upset and angry right now that I am becoming depressed and irrational. I even hate the people who are trying to console me... texting me all day "I'm so sorry, if you need anything let me know..." I need my baby to be ok... is that in the cards?! I know they mean well, but I would rather not think about anything right now. God be with all of us going through this hell right now.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had cramping my entire pregnancy and spotted one time (pinkish/brownish). I was diagnosed with a missed miscariage and was told my baby stopped growing at 7 weeks (I was 9 weeks). I had no idea I was miscarrying. Had a D&C 5 days later because my body wouldn't release my baby on its own (natural miscariage).

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was about 5 weeks and had light spotting. Did an ultrasound, saw a small sack and thought things were all right (they thought implantation bleeding). Week later more bleeding and one really bad cramp - another ultrasound. This time they said the sack was bigger but the heart was too slow and it wasn't big enough. My hormone levels were rising but not on pace. The midwife said she was sure I was going to miscarry. Two days later I had very heavy bleeding and light cramping that lasted on and off for a couple days. Went in to check hormone levels and she can't tell if they're dropping so now I have to go back for my third ultrasound. I had already started to accept the miscarriage so now the idea that I'm still possibly pregnant is freaking me out. I guess I feel like, if I am, there's no way things can be "normal" - not with all these issues.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

My warning was the heavy cramping...cramps so bad and a headache so persistant that I wasnt sure what was going on... I went to the hospital and they told me the fetus didnt have a heartbeat..... If you are cramping bad, and I mean cramps like someone is pulling your insides apart or if you have a constant headache, go get yourself checked out just to be sure.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had a typical pregnancy, with the morning sickness and all that. Went to the bathroom one night and had some bleeding, more than I would consider ok. Called the doctors office and went in to get checked. No more heartbeat. I was 9 weeks 2 days and was at the doctors not even a week before this happened and saw the heartbeat.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Monday I went in for my 10 week check up. This was our first baby. I wasn't supposed to have a sonogram but asked for one so my husband could see the heartbeat of the baby that I saw at 6 weeks. Unfortunately there was no heartbeat and I had been carrying the baby for 3 weeks without knowing. It was heartbreaking bc I didn't have any warning signs. I was never sick and thought I was one of the lucky ones. Had the D&C yesterday. Everything just happened so fast. Just 2 days ago I was on my way to being a mommy. Can't wait until we can try again for another angel.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had no warning! I went for my 6 week check up and there was no heartbeat or yolk sac when they did the u/s. They were pretty sure I had misscarried but made me get several more u/s just in case. I had no bleeding but was EXTREMELY nauseaus. More then the average nausea. Couldnt even get of the couch. Everyone kept telling me thats a sign of a healthy baby. To make a long story short, I had to have a D & C. That was 2 months ago and I am now 5 weeks pregnant again. Im praying for a much better outcome.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had no warning either. We went in for our first US at 9weeks and were told that the babies stopped growing at 6w6d. I began searching the internet for answers of course, and found that there are many cases of misdiagnosed miscarriages, especially earlier on (5weeks to 8weeks or 9 weeks). I read many stories of women who were told that there was a yolk sack, but no baby or that there was no heartbeat. These women were urged to get the D&C or take the pills right away, but spirit told them to wait and low and behold some weeks later, they did indeed find a heartbeat and many of them did have viable pregnancies. BE SURE that you really are miscarriying. In my case, I don't feel pregnant anymore, and I'm waiting for the babies to pass naturally. It's taking a little bit longer than I expected, but I'm still glad I waited after reading stories about mistakes that doctors and US techs have made or babies who just weren't ready to reveal themselves until 9, 10 even 12 weeks.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Like all stories of miscarriages mine is a tragic tale that just sharing makes it seem like it was yesterday! I found out I was pregnant on December 13 of last year I was the most ecstatic and joyful woman in the world, this was my first pregnancy and I was already over 30. Everything was going great not many signs like morning sickness, but my breasts stayed swollen and sore all the time. I would hear the heartbeat and it was always strong and healthy. On March 9 I went for my dr appointment, my blood pressure had been really high so they were suppose to check me for pre-eclampsia. When they try to hear the heartbeat they couldn't find it. My Dr said that many times the baby will turn and hide that it was normal for them to do that so she sent me an untrasound. Sure enough after the ultrasound the baby had no heartbeat. I found out that my child had actually died two weeks ago and at that time cause was unknown. The Dr gave me three options go home and maybe my body would have the baby naturally, come to the hospital and they would give me a pill to have naturally or have them take the baby but that would cause scarring. I chose to have the pill and on March 12 I gave birth to a baby boy. His umbilical cord had wrapped around his throat and chest each twice. As I look back on it I realize I had stopped feeling him move and I felt something was exactly right, I should have relied on my instincts but being my first pregnancy I wasn't sure what was instincts or nerves. I would tell any woman who if you feel something no matter how small isn't right SEE THE DOCTOR!!! And as I said earlier my blood pressure kept rising, my body was telling me something wasn't right!

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Like many of the others who have posted here, my baby stopped growing at around 6 weeks and a heartbeat never surfaced. I had a very light pink-white discharge a few weeks into the pregnancy, but nothing else. I didn't think much of it at the time. Finally, at 9 1/2 weeks with still no heartbeat or growth, I decided to have a D&C. It was a hard decision. The memory of a friend who went through a very painful natural miscarriage only to have to do the D&C anyway (because not everything evacuated on its own) compelled me to have the procedure. The actual procedure was less difficult than I anticipated, but I am having light cramping and spotting several days later, which I have been told is normal. I'm sorry to everyone else who has had the same kind of misfortune. I wasn't prepared for how emotionally difficult it would be. My husband and I are very health and young, and we didn't see this coming a mile away. My doctor said it is most likely a chromosonal issue (chromosomes not dividing as they should) given that the pregnancy was found not to be viable between the 3- to 9- week time period and that there is nothing we could do. To be honest, this is very little comfort. I'm feeling a bit haunted.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

We all have similar stories and until I read this page, I did not know how much we all had in common. I just lost my first pregnncy at 12 weeks. I had brown discharge which does not raise alarm for about a week, then it turned red and was accompanied by menstrual-like cramps. I had experienced only slight nausea, but also had sore boobs, a little weight gain and we had gotten an unltrasound at 6 weeks which resulted in them moving my due date back from where we thought I was. So here I am just started my 12th week when everything is supposed to be safer and more secure. I was informed to go to the ER where they told me my baby was measuring 8.5 weeks and had no heartbeat. I had carried a dead embyro for a month, picking out names, ordering maternity clothes. It was sick. My cervix was closed and so I went home to see what would happen. I returned 8 hours later with sever contractions, pain I had never felt before in the middle of my lower stomach. They sat me on the bed and 5 minutes later I began the 4 hours long passing of my unborn child. I have never in my life experienced something so awful. They sent me home when they saw viz another ultrasound that only a small piece of tissue was left, which I passed later that night. I believe it was part of the placenta. Just seeing that was enough to break my heart. I am recoering now and my bleeding is slowly decreasing to nothing. 1 in 4 they say. No one tells you until you are the 1 in 4.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was 9 weeks pregnant going to my doctor appt where I would hear my baby's heartbeat. It was me, my husband, and my sister-in-law in the ultrasound room. I could see my baby on the screen, looked like all other ultrasounds I had seen before, but I noticed the doctor kept turning on and off the sound. There was no heartbeat, and he said it was very recent because the baby was almost 9 weeks in size, he believed it died over the weekend before my appt that Tuesday. I had no signs what so ever! It was a total shock. He did a D/C 2 days after, in which I had a lot of bleeding and passed a lot of clots even after the surgery. That was over 2 years ago and my husband and I have been trying ever since with no luck.I was prescribed Clomid 3 months ago and just found out last week that I am pregnant! I know how it feels to feel like a failure or that you didn't deserve it (which no one does) it may take a while to grieve your loss (it took me some time). Don't ever give up on having a baby, and don't get too frustrated at every month that goes by and you're not pregnant. Don't stress about it and once that stress is gone it'll happen again.

My heart goes out to all of you. I remember I was 12 weeks pregnant and one night realized I had brownish discharge. I called my doctors and they said it was from having sex so I didn't think much of it after that. Then the next day I went to work and had more bleeding. I worked in the same building as my OBGYN. I rushed over there balling and they took me back right away. My boyfriend at the time couldn't get there so my mom came and sat with me through the ultrasound. Then they showed me my baby and that he or she didn't have a heartbeat and it stopped growing at 7 weeks. I then had a D&C the next day. I was heartbroken. Never understood why. I remember waking up in recovery after the surgery looking at my mom and my boyfriend and saying our baby is gone. It gets easier to deal with everyday. I just had to think everything happens for a reason.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

My husband and I had a miscarriage last July. We got pregnant again one year later, only to find out at 7w 2d that the baby was not growing. I have all the pregnancy symptoms, my HCG levels were at 25,277 on Tuesday, Aug. 28 and went up only 1000 points 2 days later. We decided to get a second opinion and still had the same results. We are trying to have this sink in, but it's hard when I am still having all these symptoms. No bleeding this time around, no cramping at all. This is very confusing. I told my doctor that I want to have the miscarriage naturally the way God designed my body to do if a miscarriage occurs. We go back to the doctor on Sept. 19 for ultrasound. Since my husband and I are in are 40's, we are seeking a fertility specialist to help resolve our issues. Our desire to have a child far outweighs giving up! We are putting our faith in God and whatever He chooses for us then that is the plan we will go with. God Bless you all. May God give you His comfort and peace.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Mindy1972- did you have an ultrasound that showed there wasn't a heartbeat? I only ask because my hcg was 22000 and 2 days later 23000. Doc told me I was miscarrying but went to confirm a week later and saw heartbeat. he was shocked and I'm sure it's rare but you can't rely on only blood tests. God is in control and I'm so happy you placed your trust in Him!

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Hello, I experienced heavy bleeding yesterday night. Almost like the first day of your period. I ran to the ER, the doc checked but my cervix was closed. The following day, I made an appt with my regular ob, he checked and saw some blood, light, but concluded that my cervix was closed. He then completed an ultrasound we saw the baby and heard the heartbeat. I am 10w 5d. After reading all the above blogs, I am so sad to hear about all the miscarriages. I pray to God to help my baby continue to develop healthy. My doc said that the percentage of miscarriages in the first trimester is 25 percent. After the 12 wks, it drops down to 2%. I pray to God to help me get through this period. Due to the heavy bleeding the er doc put me on bed rest for a week. I am going to take this time to rest and pray unceasingly. Thank you for reading my snip-bit. I will keep you posted.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Hi, everyone. All of your stories are heartbreaking, but you are all so strong. Thanks for sharing. I have had two miscarriages in the last year, one at 6 weeks and one at 18 weeks. My first one happened less than one week after a positive test. It was pretty typical--mild, brown spotting that gradually increased in amount and turned pink then red, decreasing HCG levels, then eventually the cramping and passing, just like I started my period. It all happened over about 5 days total. They didn't even do an ultrasound because my progesterone was really low, and the Dr. told me they wouldn't be able to see anything. After several months, we were pregnant again, and everything was great! I have an autoimmune disorder that requires fetal heart ultrasounds every 2 weeks starting at week 16, so at our first one at 15 weeks 6 days, everything looked perfect, and the sonographer said she was almost positive we were expecting son #2. Because of this autoimmune disorder, I was also supposed to use a fetal doppler at home to keep track of rate and rhythm nightly. When I received my Doppler in the mail about a week and a half later, I was so excited to use it, but could not find my baby's heartbeat. Dr. told me it was operator error and to come into the office the next day to be instructed on how to use it. I was actually kind of pissed off, because I am a nurse, and use a Doppler daily on cardiac patients. Anyway, the next morning, after 2 medical assistants couldn't find a heartbeat after 45 minutes and 3 different Dopplers, they confirmed the worse with an ultrasound. We decided to be induced and delivered. Best decision I've ever made. I have a new high-risk OB who is treating me for antiphospholipid syndrome, and we are currently 6 weeks 3 days. I had some light pink bleeding over the weekend, and had another beta drawn today and a Rhogam injection. I am trying not to freak out.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I just lost my very first pregnancy yesterday. I'm so devastated. We only found out we were pregnant 2 days prior. I had suspected pregnancy and had been feeling great - more energy, no nausea, but very sore breasts and a few other symptoms (like superhuman sense of smell). On Saturday, I took a home test that lit up positive immediately. I felt pregnant, and my husband and I were both excited. On Sunday, I woke up and looked at myself in the mirror. My breasts didn't feel as sore, but I felt ok. I even told my husband it was strange that I didn't look or feel pregnant. I went to the Doc that afternoon to confirm my pregnancy and the test came back negative. They suspected it was because I didn't test with my first void urine. I went back Monday morning and tested 'weak positive'. I should've noted that as a sign. I didn't feel right. Couldn't eat on Monday at lunch, felt ridiculously thirsty (I read somewhere that's a symtom too) and cramping started Monday afternoon. I rushed to my doctor who inspected me and told me I was starting to miscarry. The pain increased super quickly, but I managed to get home. The pain was intense, and came in waves like contractions. I lost the pregnancy within hours of finding out I was pregnant (doc said 7 weeks, but I think it was more like 5). I am glad to know the signs now, but I wish there was more I could've done to save my pregnancy. I did everything right and still lost it. I really feel for all the women out there going through the same thing.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Bleeding started out brown spotting, changed to red drip (TMI) with small amounts of clotting. Been testing my HGC, they stalled, that was the most telling. Went to the doc today and confirmed I had miscarried, today I would have been 6 weeks, they suspect it was 10 days ago when I started to have the brown spotting, as it wasn't as form as a 6 week should have been. She did a endometrial biopsy which is like a mini D&C, but that it just takes a small amount which can get tested and helps the process move along, you don't have to get the IV with the drugs and its not as rough on your body. I'm emotionally and physically over bleeding and want to move one and get my HCG levels down to zero. I'll have another HCG Friday, if my numbers are still up I'll take the M drug I can't remember the name of at the moment over the weekend to help get out any remaining tissue. I keep reminding myself that my body knows better than I do and if something wasn't right it was for the best that this pregnancy ended, but its still a bitter pill to take. I had a good long cry Monday, not so much mourning the loss of this small piece of tissue inside of me so much as the idea of a child in my arms in 7.5 months, the idea of June 3rd, of a spring child, god this sucks. I feel like everywhere I look I see pregnant women. I had this little special secret I got to carry around with my that is now gone. I am still have small cramps and hope I can bounce back in the next couple of days, ready to let the appropriate time pass and then try again. Remember everything happens for a reason.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

We found out we were pregnant on Monday (5 weeks) and had our first ob appointment on Wednesday, and on Thursday I knew something was wrong. I went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was dry red blood with slight cramping. I called my husband right away and he called the doctor and we went to the hospital right away to have a hcg beta quant drawn and my bleeding became heavier, cramps much more intense than my periods, and thicker. We got the results that my hcg was less than 5. It was very disappointing and sad, but if the baby would have been unhealthy it would not have been any quality of life for our baby. With a lot of family and friends support and each other we have been able to accept the loss.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

My first pregnancy I had zero symptoms and I miscarried at 7 weeks. This pregnancy today I reached 7 weeks and I'm tired, hungry all the time, my boobs hurt when I'm not wearing support and I've been getting light cramps. This pregnancy feels 100 times different than the one that failed. I was completely traumatized at the miscarriage but with the support of friends and family I've come full circle in 8 months and am going to see my OB for the first time this Friday.

I have had three miscarriages. My very first pregnancy my second pregnancy and my forth pregnancy. I have a beautiful four year old son. Who I almost feel was the tough one. I don't know of a cause for any of them except I have endrometris. (Didn't spell that right) I went to the er for chest pains I have a heart condition and was shocked when they told me I was pregnant. I am five weeks and was feeling all the signs and having horrible head aches. I wasn't happy about being preg and said some mean things but today I started cramping and I am terrified I am gonna miscarry. I don't have obgyn or insurance. I am not bleeding at the moment but I am just freaking out. I've read it's not possible but I wonder if its possible to freak yourself out enough to have a misscarriage. If I have a miscarriage I am gonna feel so guilty cause I did say bad stuff not really meaning it was just mad. I am just praying the cramping passes without any bleeding.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I've had 3 miscarriages in the span of 6 years (never made it past 5 weeks for each of them and I don't have any kids) every single one is the same. I find out I'm pregnant, I get it confirmed by my doctor, then I start bleeding and lose it 2-3 days later like clockwork. My doctor dismisses it and tells me I am fine, and even got rude about it by telling me I need to re-prioritize my life and wait for a while (I'm 25, engaged and work full-time so he has no right to talk to me like that). The last miscarriage I had was in May. I was 5 weeks and 3 days with an HCG level of 15, then the a few days later it was a 5 the day I had my M/C. I am so frustrated and confused, and I feel like I will never actually have a child. Having kids sounds like a myth to me. I finally got an OB/GYN and I see her in about 3 weeks. I cannot wait to find out what is actually going on with me. I wonder if it is a simple fix like needing progesterone, or if something is terribly wrong with me...sigh.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Reading these heartbreaking stories terrifies and has my stressing out for myself. I am currently about 11 weeks pregnant and had some brown spotting early last week. I made an appt with my OBGYN for the following day. That day I woke up, went to the bathroom and was concerned when I wiped and had a good amount of blood. When I went to the doctors they performed an ultrasound and there was baby moving frantically and had a heartbeat clear as day. Tomorrow we are finally telling our families but I still have a weird feeling about everything. I work up this past weekend with major cramps and back pain but keep telling myself it’s because I’m stressing myself out about telling friends and family. I’m terrified to finally reveal our big news only to find out I had a miscarriage and have to break the bad news. I have my CV testing next week and I’m praying to God that everything is okay. First pregnancy miscarriages run in my family so I think I’ve convinced myself I will be having one. I surely hope I’m wrong.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had no signs. None. I went to the doctor for my 8 week ultrasound. The baby had not grown and the heart had stopped beating. It must have died right after my ultrasound at 6 weeks. It's been two weeks and no discharge or anything. Going to just do the D&C to get it over with. My fiance and I have been devastated. I guess we will just have to wait a couple months and try again. Hopefully our dream of a child will happen next year.

Hi ladies, I am having some concerns and hoping that maybe some of you might know what I am experiencing. I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago. Actually one week before I should've started my cycle. I have seen my gynocologist every week twice for progestrone blood tests. Finally yesterday they did a vaginal and regular sono and I am six weeks but they show no sign of a heartbeat they all were measuring the ges. sac and looking for sign of embryo but told me everything was fine. I'm really confused. The last time they checked my progestrone it was 12.7 which was on Thursday. They again pulled my progestrone yesterday after sono. Is this normal? Today I am having a lot of lower back pains where I feel like my back wants to explode. Can someone tell me if I am ok or not.

I was told I'm 8 weeks pregnant after I collapsed and starting bleeding, and rushed to hospital. After Many scans I was told there is no activity, no heartbeat. I could swear I felt movement. Bleeding carried on for 5 days and passing of clots. I have 4 kids all normal births with my ex husband but my fiance and I were so excited to hear I was pregnant at 42 and now the devastation... He has never been married or had a child and what a gift this would have been from God. I now await blood test to determine hormone levels. I'm so heartbroken... But still I trust in God for the best outcome. I feel so saddened by all your stories. May God grant us new joy, new hope and new life.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

You MUST remember every woman is different and every pregnancy is different! At around 5 weeks I started cramping for 2 days straight, lost my symptoms the 3rd day, and woke up to blood on the 4th. It was too early for an ultrasound to check for a heartbeat but they checked my hormone levels that day and 3 days later and they were increasing as normal. I am now almost 22 weeks and our little blessing of a girl is perfectly healthy! Maintain faith. Stress will only hurt the both of you, not solve anything. Best wishes to everyone and their little bellybeans!

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

My 1st appointment was scheduled for 10 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy. Everything seemed just like my pregnancy with my daughter. Never experienced morning sickness or anything. Only thing I was having was sever bloating which I didn't have in 1st pregnancy. My husband was able to surprise me and make our 1st appointment (thank goodness). The doc kept trying to find a heartbeat and wasn't able to but at 10 weeks it can be hard. He did an exam and said we might be off a few days but called to see if they could so a quick sono on me. Took me down the back elevator and sure enough when I saw the baby on the screen I could see our baby had no heart beat. No signs of miscarriage at all. Our baby showed to be around 9 weeks and 3 days. So it had happened very recent. My doc scheduled me for a D&C that evening. Today I am once again in my 9th week of pregnancy and praying all goes good this time around. This is our last try to give our daughter a brother or sister. I am 37 and just don't think I can go through it all again. If we are meant to have 2 we will. :)

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had my first 8 week appointment today and they couldn't find a heart beat. The midwife told me that I am likely to have a miscarriage because I should be a lot further along in the process. They drew blood and I go back on Tuesday to have blood work done and Thursday I go in for another sono. I haven't started my menstrual cycle but I have had mild cramping. I'm scared for what's to come... Any advice?

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was 5 and 1/2 weeks along when I started spotting brown blood. I had a couple large clots of it come out. I went to my doctor and they did an ultrasound and everything looked ok. The next day it turned to bright red blood and started coming out heavily. I started having severe pains in my lower abdomen and my lower back. I would describe it feeling like a lot of pressure. Also, I noticed earlier in the week that I woke up one morning and my pregnancy symptoms were gone. I remember thinking to myself that I just didn't feel pregnant anymore. After a very large clot of blood came out I went to the ER. My cervix was closed. The pregnancy test they gave me was still positive. They did an ultrasound and the sac was gone. The doc said it was early enough in my pregnancy and my body appeared to be getting rid of it naturally so I didn't need any meds or procedures. I'm doing ok now. This would have been our first child. I am trying to remain upbeat and know that we will keep trying.

I just want to say to you all to keep the faith. I am in my forties...was told that chances are I wouldn't be able to get pregnant. I am now pregnant for the 3rd time in 9 months. I lost the first two right at 7 weeks both times. The first time there were no signs at all. The second time, a lot of pain & discomfort. I'm praying that I can carry this was through. Doing all that I can to remain stress free and take care of myself emotionally. Very difficult to deal with the possibility that I could lose this one as well, but like you all - I am a strong woman and will endure all that I have to in order to receive the blessing that will come. Love, prayers and blessings to all of you!!

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I had a scare last night. I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow. I thought I had peed on myself, only to go to the bathroom and find a sudden, painless brown discharge. The amount that would fill a panty liner. No clots, no tissue. I immediately panicked and went to the Emergency Room. The dr examined me, we seen the baby and it was moving frantically, and we seen a precious little heartbeat. He said a moving baby is a happy baby. He couldn't really give me any advice for the sudden ONE TIME rush of brown discharge other than i may be having a miscarriage. I haven't had any discharge today, no cramping, no other symptoms. My boobs are still so very tender and i feel very much pregnant. Has anyone else experienced this or can give me any explanation or advice?

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I lost my baby at 15 weeks and did not have any signs up to that point- no cramping, no bleeding, no contractions. The ultrasound showed no heartbeat. I am so devastated and keep asking why? Up until last week everything was fine and the baby was healthy. The doctor who performed the d & c said that it was called an early second trimester loss and that I would probably never know why the baby passed away.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I too did not have any signs. We went in for our 10 week check up and to hear the heart beat only to find out our baby stopped growing at six weeks. I was able to do a D&C a week later. It has been over a month a not a day goes by I do not think of our baby. So I understand where you are coming from mdluvs10is...it is insane our bodies did not detect the miscarriage..

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

My miscarriage happened 3 months ago. I had cramping from the beginning of pregnancy. It alternated between feeling like period cramps a gas pain. There were times when I would sweat due to the pain, but i had an ultrasound at 5 weeks that showed the egg sac and then another ultrasound a little over 6 weeks and heard the heartbeat. Went back at 9 weeks 1 day and found out the baby died at 6 weeks 4 days. I had a d&c the next week and bled for a couple of weeks. I think I was too active after the surgery, so the bleeding/clotting was worse. I was on progesterone due to low levels. It was the hardest time of my life, but it does get a little easier. I sill have memories of he failed ultrasound, that is he hardest. However, I found out this week that e are pregnant again, so there is hope :)

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

i had back pain and pain in my ribs, i thought it was normal. i had thought it was just my baby stretching in my ribs. an when i went for my 21 week check up, my ob told me there was no heart beat nor movement. i busted out into tears. he told me she stopped developing at 16 weeks, but i didn't understand how, when last last check up she was a very healthy 17 week fetus. my ob made me an appointment to remove her, but he rescheduled until the following week. i don't understand why he would make me wait so long.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

Thank you ladies for sharing your stories. I miscarried around 9 weeks. I really had no symptoms beforehand. We went in for an ultrasound at the 7th week and saw the heartbeat and returned on the 9th expecting to see the same. I really wasn't expecting any bad news when I walked into the doctor's office that day. My husband and I were completely caught off guard. However, thinking back I was experiencing an increase in the amount of light cramping around week 8, but the I thought it was just my uterus increasing in size. I still felt nauseated and exhausted. My boobs were a little less sore, but still felt fuller. I guess there were some signs there, but they were so slight that it was easy to overlook. No major cramping or bleeding, which is what I really would have expected with a miscarriage. Anyway, the whole experience has been very heart wrenching. I just had a D&C yesterday and I'm taking a day at home to rest. We had announced our pregnancy to our families on Christmas and then a week later had to tell everyone the bad news. I'm really grateful for all of your messages b/c in some way it gives me comfort, esp. when I really don't feel like talking to anyone else about this experience. We do plan to try again in about 3 months, but next time we won't announce our pregnancy until we are a little ways into the 2nd trimester. It's just too hard to share the bad news with everyone else. They want to help and mean well, but I feel angry b/c I know they expect me to discuss this experience with them and I just don't want to talk about it with them. So, thanks for sharing your stories here.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

I was 5w 6d when I started seeing brown discharge when I wiped. Call the doc and they said as long as I didn't have cramps for 2 hours or heavy bleeding I would be fine. Went in at 6w because the brown turned to blood. I had the ultrasound and they found a heartbeat, hCG levels were good and I didn't have RH, so they didn't know what was causing the bleeding. At 6w 5d, cramping began and it would come and go through out the day. Around 8 pm took a bath to help, but that is when I passed a clot and the worst happened, Miscarried while in the waiting room of the ER.

Q&A: Miscarriage warning signs?

My first sign was in a new pregnancy test. I had 4 previous positive tests, the first ones were faint, and the last was was getting stronger. I was hoping for that BFP, so I took another one and it was fainter than the previous one. The next day I did a digital test that came back "Not pregnant" and that same day my bbs were not sore anymore. The following day I started bleeding, not a lot, no pain. At the ER they tested my hcg and it was low. 2 days later they tested again and it went down to zero...
