Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I’m having a hard time zipping up my jeans, but I’m scared of maternity clothes. How can I find clothes that are comfortable, fit my growing body and still look good?

Re: I’m having a hard time zipping up my jeans, but I’m scared of maternity clothes. How can I find clothes that are comfortable, fit my growing body and still look good?

The Bump Expert

These are great days for pregnant women. Those bulging bellies are increasingly seen as beautiful and natural, not something to be hidden. Go for clothes that celebrate your curves, rather than masses of draping fabric to veil your tummy. Empire waists are great for showing off shoulders and growing breasts while giving baby room to grow. V-necks look good on almost everyone, and bring attention to the face. Open collars will accentuate your collarbone and make your neck look long and graceful. Clingy clothes also look cleaner and neater, and will make it clear that you’re pregnant, not just extraordinarily large. And, don’t forget the basic rules -- dark clothes are slimming, look good on everyone, and match with anything.

Thanks to crazy hormones, pregnant women tend to get kind of hot. (You’ve noticed?) Stay cool in breathable fabrics like cotton, viscose and matte jersey. Dress in layers so you can strip (appropriately) as the day goes on and your temperature rises. Also stay away from any scratchy fabrics -- pregnant bellies are already itchy enough.

Most maternity clothes come in small, medium and large. The sizing is basically the same as non-pregnancy clothes, with extra room in the belly, boobs, hips and arm holes. Buy your regular size, but don’t get too much at once -- your growth might expand to other areas.

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

Overall, I think the above advice is good. My only gripe is that, as the author mentions, most maternity clothes come in small, medium or large. That means no extra large, xxl, or higher sizes. Given that a very high percentage of women wear size 12 and higher, this is a frustrating omission. Even retailers that usually excel in the plus-size market--Target, Old Navy, etc--cap their sizing at XXL. To make matters worse, these sizes often run small, especially in the (usually rapidly-growing) bust area. It's hard out there for a pleasantly plump fashionista. One small exception to all this: Lane Bryant has recently begun offering plus-size maternity, but only online.

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

I normally wear a size 18 and am quite comfortable in maternity wear I've found at Target. Motherhood (a maternity store) offers a pretty wide range of sizes as well, especially online.

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

I think that we are pretty lucky right now... the style is dresses and long tops with an empire waist. I am wearing a lot of non-maternity clothes that are roomy in my tummy area.

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

I'm having an issue finding a coat for this winter! The only maternity coats I have found go up to a L which will most likely not work since I am a size 12 and my chest has already bumped up to a DDD

kzeksbg |

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

i can't find a winter coat either! my size 12 coat from last year so doesn't fit, right now i'm using a blanket to get to my car in the morning but there has to be some place that has a large pregnancy coat

SaraJillette |

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

I'm having the opposite problem...I'm a size 2! I can't find anywhere with maternity extra small (it does sound like an oxymoron) but I swim in the small...and I really don't want to buy a larger size of regular clothes that have no expansion...I've only found ONE pair of jeans and ONE pair of black slacks, and TWO shirts. But I can't even get my pants over my butt anymore, let alone over my bulge in front!

BrennaZ |

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

Luckily my winter coat still fits (for now) but one great place to look is destinationmaternity.com. I know it's an online store but I remember seeing a nice selection of winter coats. Another option may be to check out the men's sections - they have nice pea coats and they're bigger - this might at least get you something for now instead of just a blanket. Especiall if you live where it gets bitterly cold.

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

My problem is my height...I am 6'0 tall and I can't find a good pair of maternity jeans that are long enough....when I ask Motherhood Maternity, they say maybe try Old Navy but I might be out of luck....are you kidding me?? Geez! Other than that, I'm wearing some things from Target and Motherhood I've found....")

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

angel222, gap carries long length in most of their pants. i'm also 6' and gap jeans have worked well for me in the past and now that i'm having #3 i'm already looking again!

noogs |

re: Q: Cute Maternity Clothes?

brenna - i feel you. i'm in the same boat. no matter where i go (gap maternity, mimi maternity, etc...), the XS is always slightly too big. i'm hoping in time that they'll fit better (maybe even after a few washings and drying in high heat?). gap maternity did carry 0,1 ad 2s online so i would recommend trying their website and ordering jeans on there. they're pretty comfy - not perfect like your regular jeans... but good enough!

check out motherhood maternity--they have sizes up to 3X--and you just buy your "regular" size. check out destinationmaternity.com or another one I've heard of (and have not checked out yet) is plusmaternity.com. I've also heard that Penney's carried plus size maternity clothes, but I haven't checked yet.

i found really cute and affordable maternity clothes at old navy. they fit well and seem to be great quality!

re: Q: Cute maternity clothes?

I totallly agree! I love Old Navy. Everything I've tried on every where else is huge right now because I'm only 14 weeks along, but I can't button my pre-pregnancy pants so I need something. But Old Navy has all different sizes and they're really affordable too. I'm going to try Motherhood and Target too. I heard they have nice stuff.

So far I like Old Navy and GAP maternity clothes. And I'm 5'9" so the talls are great for me....with extra length to spare. And Old Navy is usually always having a good sale.

Like the woman about mentioned, the tummy sleeve. It is literally like one of those cloth headbands that goes right around your waistline. I have become the BIGGEST fan of them because I can't even begin to tell ya'll the amount of $ its saved me from buying maternity bottoms.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I also have this weird fear of maternity clothes, when I think about them or see them I get so nauseous. I bought the bella band because my jeans are a little snug and it doesnt seem to stay in place, so i bought some jeans a size larger than normal, they fit my belly but are still way to big for my legs and tush.... sigh

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

My issue is I am a young mom to be and I really feel like all of the maternity clothes I find are for older women, I want to keep dressing my age, and allow my belly to grow and not restrict my little man trying to squeeze into my old jeans, where do you recommend?

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I feel like a walking ad for Gap Maternity, but their clothes fit very well and look just as fashionable as what I was wearing before pregnancy. The only downside is that they don't carry jean sizes small enough for me in their retail stores and I have to order online.

Crawform24 |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Motherhood maternity has cute in style clothes Im a young mom to be also and trust me i like them its just the factor that you cant wear things showing your stomach or smooshing to show your butt. You may need to buy clothes that hide your butt but trust me itll find its way back with all the growing your doing (:

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I found a really cute online maternity boutique that has really cute maternity dresses especially if you are going out for a night on the town or to a wedding or something. I could still use mine well after the pregnancy because not only did it grow with my body but when I lost my bump I could still wear because it conformed to fit me...I don't mind paying for clothes with multiple functions, meaning that I can wear it either before, during and after pregnancy, plus it prevents me from having to buy an entire new wardrobe. Plus they have good range in size, they go up to 3XL in a lot of their clothes...they also have maternity lingerie with bra sizes from A cup to F cup...I hope this helps. Check it out www.morningchicboutique.com it's called Morning Chic Maternity Boutique...gotta love the name...lol

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

In addition to the tummy sleeve (which I couldn't live without), I found that buying several non-maternity but longer-length tops was perfect. They conform to my belly so I look pregnant not fat. Look for ones that have either an elastic or gather at the hem too. I'm 5 months and the long non-maternity tops are still the ones that fit better and look so much cuter than the traditional huge flowing maternity tops. Plus I can still wear them long after the baby comes.

Remember that your growing body it's only temporary so embrace your weight gain and show it off!! I bought some pretty (and cheap) dressses at the clearance racks at Kohls...Still having a hard time with jeans but I'm tall so its expected...try the band ones you can still use them for your postpartum months...You should try Old Navy and Ross (I bought some for 7.99!)

I did invest in some maternity pants but only a pair or two. leggings and long sweaters are great for the winter months as well as sweat pants. even if you invest in maternity wear most stores such as target and old navy have really cute and afordable clothing

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I started wearing maternity clothes very early on as I could not fit into any of my clothes. I started at motherhood maternity and was so happy with the prices. Just I didn't feel so comfortable and cute. I then went to destination maternity and feel in love!!! They sell pea in the pod, mimi maternity and motherhood. I have bought a pair of jeans for $30 and also now two for $120 each. I never wear my cheap ones anymore. I know it may seem expensive but trust me these are your clothes for pretty much a year (don't forget you won't be the exact same right after the baby is born) and you will become a little uncomfortable in your own new body so you want to feel cute!!!

fortworthmom |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I picked up tons of solid color leggings. I'm tall so they don't sit quite at my ankles but I invested in some nice equestrian style knee-high boots and a few other nice pairs of low to no heel boots. I'm pairing the leggings with empire tops and sweater dresses with nice stretch to them. After the baby the leggings may be a tad stretched out but the boots will still fit and all the tops and sweater dresses can be belted with a wide belt when my waist is nice and tiny again (I hope). That way your only expense for maternity is leggings and those are cheap!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I had a really hard time finding cute and age appropriate maternity clothes, surprisingly enough I found a lot of really cute tops and dresses at Target. That I could actually grow with and not feel uncomfortable in while I'm in my first trimester. And for any of you tall ladies, I'm 5'9 and couldn't find long enough maternity jeans ANYWHERE. I went onto Gap's website and their maternity jeans actually come in lengths, and also have varying belly band widths.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

For something really hip and different you should check out moodymamas.com. They're definitely more expensive, but if you're dying for a t-shirt that's more young than old, then definitely check out their Fierce Mamas section. Also, I'm planning on being pregnant more than once, so I have an easier time justifying a $30 shirt (as long as it's not faddish). Also, and again this is pricey (one piece on sale might be worth it thought - and at least it's fun to look at), but stella maternity has some fun and different options.

mireille86 |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

If you wear a plus size over a size 3x, you have no choice but to buy regular clothes from the Avenue or Lane Bryant in a bigger size than what they wore before. There are no maternity clothes bigger than a size 3 x. There are a lot of women out there that become bigger than 3x once they get pregnant and they are forgotten about in the maternity clothes world.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I was dreading maternity clothes too! Until i found out about the belly band! It's wonderful. I can still fit into my old jeans everywhere except for my growing belly. This band is elastic and lays right over the button of my jeans allowing me to wear my cute pants from before i was pregnant. And it is definately a challenge to find cute maternity jeans anywhere!

Ericalynn16 |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I found something great at Target its called a BeBand. All you do is just wear your normal pants/jeans and leave them unzipped and put the band over it. Works wonders. I'm also a plus size mom to be and I found that BisuBisu has a maternity line at JCPenny. I found me a skirt & pants for me to wear to work. Also, I bought some plus size velur pants at Motherhood and they are my FAVORITE pair of pants. I could wear them all the time even if I wasn't pregnant just for the comfort. A way to keep things in persective as far as budgeting for clothes the best way is to look on their clearance rack. That is where I found most of the stuff at Motherhood. Also, watch for coupons at places like JCPenny because I got a skirt & pants for 20 bucks each plus a few other non-pregnancy things and got to save $10 on my purchase because it was a $50 purchase.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I've noticed some ladies on here are wishing they could find smaller maternity clothes, as they are normally very petite people. I have the same thing going on! What i've found to be helpful is, if you don't mind wearing dresses instead of jeans, just get a few empire waisted dresses and they really do the trick. especially if they're long, you have room to grow, and you don't look ridiculous in the larger maternity clothes. for the coats, i have no idea how that will work out; i'm a size 3, just trying to squish myself into the coat i have now (i haven't started growing a lot yet, just a little).

The best thing I have found was the Bella Band, I bought it recently because my pants were getting uncomfortable to button up, it works great, it's really comfortable and you don't have to worry about your pants falling down since they're unbuttoned. :)

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I am a size 2-4. I just bought 7 pairs of pants from Old Navy in a size small. The material was awesome, but every pair was way too big! I found that the area around the hips and legs was very big. I am hoping the xs fits! Does anyone normally wear Seven for all Mankind? I normally wear a size 26. I'm not sure what size to buy for maternity?

Hapakk@msn.com |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Get a Bella band. It is the single best thing I have had since getting pregnant. Pregnancy jeans are super comfortable and you can use them throughout the whole pregnancy but if you are uncomfortable with pregnancy jeans then i suggest the bella band. it is a band thats goes around your waist so you can leave your zipper and buttons and unbottoned. It holds up your jeans and just looks like a long tank top.

I am a huge fan of the gap - they have maternity clothing in their baby store. Our local stores don't carry much but the good thing is that they put everything on sale quickly to move things out - great deals to be had, cute trendy clothes and comfy! Old Navy maternity is great for casual comfy clothes too. I found that I could stand to wear my dress clothes still for work but when I returned home I just wanted to change into something comfy!

MinaCincy |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

the solution i found for pants and jeans was to loop a ponytail holder through the button-hole, and around to the button or clasp (depending on which pair i'm wearing). then i just wear a top that's long enough to disguise the fact that my pants are only half-zipped. then i went to a couple of clearance racks at my favorite department stores and bought several non-maternity empire waisted blouses to carry me through. my sister bought several short knit dresses that were gathered at the waist and wore them with her old pants - also rubber-banded - and after she'd lost the baby weight, they were great with funky leggings for nights out on the town!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I have the problem finding things that fit me. I'm normally a size 2 to 4 and all maternity clothes size small are HUGE. They're made for women who are chestier and have larger shoulders. Target has some great comfortable maternity clothes. I bought some yoga pants that are amazingly comfortable and they'll fit hopefully throughout my entire pregnancy. Forever 21 has some really great tops that are stretchy and will fit me for a while. Most of the clothes are baggy and tops are longer, so they'll stretch and cover my growing belly. As for regular maternity clothes, I'm just buying normal clothes a size bigger.

I am currently 22 weeks into my pregnancy. I found that the belly bands that I came across at Motherhood are amazing. They allow you to leave you pre pregnancy pants unzipped so they fit longer. I also found some cute maternity jeans on oldnavy.com. They are called real waist and they look like normal jeans. super cute. As for tops I adore the lace camis from Aeropostale. They are made long so they come down far enough to cover the baby bump. Another suggestion would be to buy babydoll style shirts. They fit well and allow room for the baby to grow...Hope this helps.

I was having a problem finding jeans I wasn't swimming in. The small at Motherhood and Target were still too big. I've never been a big fan of Old Navy but I was really desperate so I gave it a shot. Their XS maternity jeans fit really well. It was such a relief when they arrived! I felt like I could actually look cute again. The jeans that sit low on your belly worked best for me. The only problem I've noticed is they do tend to fade so I would steer clear of the dark jeans. Good Luck!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I happened to be a young mom myself im 19 and now found out that forever21 has came out with a maternity line online it is not too much of a large selection but really nice stuff

staceyprt06 |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Stacey: I just found that the other day, and I'm so excited about it! - Despite the small selection. My only problem with maternity clothing has been that I can't find much that is actually affordable. I bought a few key bottom pieces and dresses, but I'm having trouble finding inexpensive tops. I really haven't even needed maternity tops up until just a couple weeks ago (I'm 30 weeks right now), and I don't want to spend $30 on each maternity top when I'm only going to be wearing them for 2 more months. What I've been doing is searching the clearance items in regular women's clothing for babydoll or tunic-type tops, and buying a size larger than what I normally wear. This has worked wonders for me! I'm spending probably half the amount I would buying regular maternity clothes, and there's actually a better selection of clothes that I like!

FbachsCivvie |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I'd say don't feel stuck to the maternity section. Empire waists and tunics are very in fashion right now. At least for the first two trimesters, you can often get away with some of the non-maternity clothes out there as well, as long as you're not going to be really depressed to pass up the clothes that don't work. I find that maternity clothes are very high priced overall, although I agree that Target and Old Navy have some decent and inexpensive choices. I'm small in the shoulders and breasts, so I actually find a lot of tops at Forever 21. I'm sure it horrifies the teens to realize that the extra flowy fabric that falls from that empire waist shirt is perfect for my growing belly, but who cares? So don't write off your favorite stores and brands just yet. I say, get creative, look in ALL the sections, and ultimately wear what you feel cute and sexy in, because it really will completely change your mood as your middle grows.

I'm 13weeks and my pre-preg pants still fit but buttoning is really uncomfortable. I hadn't even thought about maternity clothes until shopping with my mom and we just stopped into a pea in a pod. It was the best trip ever. I got two pants, capris, and 4 shirts. Even though my belly is just starting the pants still fit great! and they look really cute. The best part is they were all on sale. Even though the store is kinda pricey I looked in the back and they had a lot of cute stuff for really reasonable prices (one shirt was $8) So if you just look at the higher priced store you'll prob get better fits but get the sale items for the better prices

Buy a tummy sleeve!! They carry them at motherhood which I'm not sure if there is one near you. Maybe if you google tummy sleeve it'll show you where they sell them?

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I found some really cute stuff at kikisfashions.com. Their prices are pretty good too (under $30 for cute maternity dresses). Some of their maternity clothes tend to run a little small, but other than that their selection is pretty good. I bought 3 shirts, some skinny jeans and a maternity dress for $80. had to return a shirt because it was too small, but all in all i was happy.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

don't be afraid of maternity clothes, there are many styles out there that are extremely stylish. In my opinion the only thing to fear about maternity clothes are the prices. They seem to be more expensive than regular clothes. Maternity clothes are hard to buy ahead of time. I have taken the risk of buying some in bigger sizes thinging I will surely get larger than a small but the styles are all different and until you try them when your at the size your going to be wearing it, its hard to know what to get. I wore many regular shirts throughout my entire pregnancy with the long styles that are out it's easy to find shirts that look good that are not even maternity tops

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Maternity clothes scare me too! I love wearing different things all the time and most maternity clothes I've seen are very plain or look old to me (I'm only 21). Since I'm shorter and have always had a larger chest but smaller waist its even harder to find shirts. I've been buying shirts that fit my top and since I have to get sizes that fit my chest they are usually very long on me and pair perfectly with leggings! Plus leggings are very very comfortable! They even go with dresses that I can still wear that I had before I was pregnant. Since maternity jeans fit me weird I just went to my favorite store and bought a couple pairs of jeans on sale and a size larger and use a belly band. So my list of maternity clothes for other women who aren't to crazy over maternity clothes: long shirts, dresses, leggings (I have brown, gray and black), a belly band, and nice comfy cotton tanks and t-shirts for layering :)

For those of us that are a little more petite and maternity clothes just look awkward just go to Forever 21. They have lots of loose fitting shirts that are super stylish and not to mention much cheaper than the regular maternity tops. For pants I do recommend the Belly Band.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I would recommend Heidi Klum's maternity lines, they are stylish and comfortable! You can buy them online at pea in the pod, the Lavish (which is my favorite) or Love at Motherhood. They also fit amazing and last , I'm normally a 4 and it's hard to find smaller sizes in maternity clothes and The Lavish line fit great!!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I feel lucky that longer tops with leggings are so in style this fall!! I got a great pair of plain, black maternity leggings at JCPenney on sale for $10 - reg. $20. They go with *everything*, are light enough for warmer days, heavy enough for cooler days/nights, and have plenty of tummy room. I can pair them with my skirts (the ones that still fit!), as I'm not too keen on pants right now, and they look super cute with longer tops that extend just below the butt. I am on a college campus 4 days a week, and see tons of non-preggos wearing the same styles. I find it personally important to find clothes that accentuate the fact that these extra 20lbs (and probably an addition 10 or so to go) are because I'm pregnant - not rapidly gaining weight! Sure, a lot of non-maternity clothes fit, but they just make me appear thicker than neccessary...although, picking through regular styles for longer tops and more forgiving materials is also a good idea! I HATE paying full retail!!

I've heard Motherhood Maternity has stuff, but I've found a lot at Old Navy online. Sign up for their emails and get major coupon codes, plus check out the maternity clearance - I used both to score maternity pants for only $7.50 each!!!! Plus, bonus - Old Navy has an awesome return policy, no questions asked.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

There are several comments and I haven't read all of them so if someone already suggested this I'm sorry =[. Target, Forever 21, and several other stores that have maternity lines carry a thing called the belly band. It looks like the top to maternity pants. You wear it over regular pants to hold them up so you can unzip them. It also helps if your shirt comes up in the back when you bend over. It's awesome! Plus, you can keep it after you have the baby and aren't in maternity cloths anymore, but still can't quite fit in your old ones. I know several people that wear one and aren't pregnant just for comfort.

I just bought maternity jeans online at Old Navy. You can't even tell that they are maternity unless you pull up your shirt. They are very comfortable. I'm 5'10" so I needed Tall sizes and they fit perfectly. Gap has really great tops too! You can shop at both stores at once and just do one transaction and shipping in the end.

All I can say is thank goodness for Old Navy! I didn't want to spend a ton of money on stuff that I will only be in for 3 months. Old Navy maternity clothes are cute, comfortable and really affordable. Only wish they had more pants in a long for us tall girls!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

From what I have learned the best maternity clothes to get for the best price is Target, Kohl's, Gordmens, Old Navy and Consignment. Depending one the store and location, some stores are not going to have a huge selections so shop around, but remember to buy long lasting versatile pieces. You're only' going to be in maternity clothes for a few months so you don't want to replace your whole wardrobe. Work with your current clothes and a few key pieces of maternity clothes. I found a few solid shirts and a good pair of maternity jeans and slacks are really all I needed for my wardrobe along with a dress to wear for baby showers. But other than that you really don't need a ton.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Brenna, I am in the same boat as you....regular clothes don't fit and the maternity sizes are too big. I FINALLY gave in and went to A Pea in The Pod and bought some fantastic jeans and shorts (quite expensive but I have worn them EVERY SINGLE day since I bought them. They have regular brands like Joe's jeans but with a maternity top,and the stretchy part is lovely and soft, not itchy. I tried Gap but their jeans were huge!! and look like super cheap knock-off jeans. I decided to bite the bullet and invest in a great pair and pray that my butt doesn't get fat!! Good luck!!

having huge problems with maternity pants. I normally wear a 0 or 1..and maternity xs are wayy too short & still wayyy too wide in the legs & hips. It's so bizarre. A friend of mine took her jeans to a tailor when she was pregnant & they turned them into maternity jeans! I might hae to try that...or I won't be wearing anything but leggings for many months :/

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I have lived in Gap maternity clothes now for a while. I am short and I love how they have ankle, regular, and long pant sizes. I especially like how they have a decent selection of work clothes. They have nice basics. I tried A Pea in the Pod but many of their things seemed poor quality. Also, ASOS.com. They are out of Europe and have SUPER cute things for decent prices. Give plenty of time for delivery though, I made that mistake and did not have the dress I ordered for my baby shower in time.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

For starters, don't limit yourself to "Maternity" clothes. It's a horrible marketing label that is limiting in it's own right. Maternity clothes are a smaller market, and most manufacturers would rather produce a garment that could work for expecting and un-expecting women. It just makes financial since for them. I actually just wrote a pretty lengthy post about this on my blog, so I'll just tell you to go there. Hope this isn't bad manners here, but the post has pictures, links and suggestions. I am a dude, but I like to think that I'm fashionable and have some serious credibility on this one. See my blog called Wonderful Whoopsie and read the post titled Pregnant and Still Hot...Maternity Clothes That Don't Suck! Thanks!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I have been shopping at Motherhood Maternity. I have yet to buy maternity jeans (it's hard enough for me to find normal jeans because i'm too small). I am 17 wks along and I can still fit into my super low-rise jeans, however, my work pants come right under the belly button and will not even zip! At Target they sell the "Be Band" for women that are still in that in-between stage. That Be Band is a lifesaver! Keeps your pants closed and keeps them from falling down even when they're completely unzipped. I have heard that there are surprisingly cheap and nice maternity clothes at TJ MAXX but I have yet to look.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I'm at 23 weeks now and am still terrified of maternity clothes. I've found that sticking to empire-waisted maxi dresses make the belly look cute and are super comfortable. On lazy/busy days, leggings and a long t-shirt are comfy and practical.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I received a bunch of hand me downs from a lady about as small as me, when she had her first baby 3 years ago. OMG, alot changes in three years! Almost all maternity pants now have a spandex band that goes over the tummy. Though it doesn't breath well, and I often feel a little sweaty under there, every thing looks smooth and even. Even my tighter shirts don't show a seam. What a nice change from just a couple years ago, the belly band was made of cotton with an elastic band. Granted, I will change into these jeans for comfort, and breathability, they are obviously maternity wear and everyone can see it. A second change I noticed was how much cuter maternity tops have gotten. I remember seeing pictures of my mom in the one micky mouse tee with the elastic on the bottom. Can you say, wtf?! I just cruised motherhood with my sis the other day when they just released there spring stock and I was Oh my godding everything in sight. I notice that alot of tops don't have to be maternity. So long as the style has length, and flow away from the tummy, you can get away with alot of the same stuff you've been wearing. Here is my advice, get a couple good quality pants from motherhood, and shop for tops somewhere cheaper if your looking to save money. I notice all my dress pants from target feel looser, and the spandex has not been sewed neatly to the pant material. So it kind of sags. (keep in mind this is my first baby, I am tiny, and I'm at the point of looking like a cartoon humpty dumpty with a big ol middle, and little stick arms and legs.)So if your looking like me my advice is probably worth something.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Ok, my problem is a bit different. I'm 6months and my jeans still fit pretty well. I just have to loop a hair-tie through the button hole and around the button of my jeans. Works great! So pants are a no-brainer for me. My real issue is my tits. Not because they're too big, but because they're waaay too small. My lil' b-cups haven't grown a centimeter since I got pregnant, and they're actually making me look less pregnant. (And I'm 6months along!) Anyone else having a similar problem out there? Short of padding my bra, what can I do?? Most maternity clothes are a perfect fit except in the boob area, where you really don't want draping haha!!

ctygrlstl |

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Purchase clothes that you will be able to grow into. Cotton dresses in a size larger than your normal size. This will give your belly a chance to be free and you can get a couple moths wear out of it. Also drawstring pants are oh so comfortable!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I was scared of maternity clothes too. I just had a bad taste in my mouth towards even trying them on. My jeans got real uncomfortable, and at 12 weeks I decided to go into Motherhood Maternity and pick up one or two pairs of jeans. Not only were there cute maternity clothes, the store employees were all very helpful. They had styles for different sizes, and shapes. I came out with more than a few pairs of maternity pants, and I felt like a queen wearing all these cute clothes that flattered my small bump. :) Just go and try some on, you don't have to buy maternity clothes although I highly recommend it.

Wanted to throw this out there for all you cold climate mamas and mamas to be: http://www.mcoat.squab.ca/index.php It's a down coat, made in Canada that expands for pregnancy, can hold baby in front to keep them warm, and can also fit when your figure is back to normal. Pretty pricey but not just maternity! I'll definitely be buying one as I'm moving to frigid Eastern Europe and baby is due in January.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I think wearing maternity pants is much more flattering than trying to cram my body into the shape/size of pants i once was...... The spandex top actually prevents the "muffin top" look and allows your round belly to take shape with out getting smashed. I have had the best luck finding maternity pants/jeans/shorts on clearance at Target and Jc Penny's I have purchased about 4 pairs between the two stores for less that 15 bucks a pair! as for shirts i like to wear tighter fitting t's because they hug my belly and show its shape instead of draping it and making it look like a gut!

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

Old Navy and Burlington Coat Factory have reasonably priced maternity clothes that are in fashion. I wen to Kohl's and those other places and I can't justify spending $50+ for jeans I'm only going to wear for 5 months a the most. I did go to cheap stores like Dots and Rainbow for shirts that were a size larger then I actually wore and I didn't own a maternity shirt through my entire pregnancy. I'm pregnant with twins this time and I've had to change my habits since I'm all belly, a lot of tunics and short dresses I can wear with leggings so I dont have a peek a boo baby bump since maternity shirts will only stretch so far.

Have you considered renting? It's a great option especially for scpeical occaision dresses, or if you are a professional and really need to look your best and can't get away with clothes from a discounter or your friend's hand-me-downs. Big bonus- rent only the number of items you need, which changes as you get further along, and change then out every few months- including when you're nursing/pumping. Try Fashion Forward Maternity for the largest selection and a company that is run by moms who "get it."

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

i've had good luck at gap maternity both online and in the store. Most of the sizes are pretty accurate in correlation with your pre pregnancy size, same with Old Navy. Just be cautious some of the items you can't return to the store and are return online only which can be a pain. I went into the store to try on some stuff to get an idea of how stuff fit and then ordered, plus most of the time you can get free shipping through them by ordering a certain amount. The one place I would NOT recommend is Ann Taylor Loft maternity. They are online only and the tops do not stretch with you, they fit as if you just bought a larger size which is not flattering in the slightest. When I did go to return the items to the store, which they allow a few months had passed and they wouldnt allow me to return without the original slip regardless of tags and email confirmation and proposed I call customer service which in turn told me they could not send me a new slip like the cashier had said they would. In the end they said they could ultimately give me an online only credit?!?! I find it ironic they make the maternity clothing so difficult to return when its during a period that women are not their typical size/shape nor have the time/energy to want to deal with that process-will not be going back nor recommending.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I found a really cute online maternity store that has really cute maternity dresses especially if you are going out for a night on the town or to a formal meeting or something. I could still use mine well after the pregnancy because not only did it grow with my body but when I lost my bump I could still wear because it conformed to fit me...I don't mind paying for clothes with multiple functions, meaning that I can wear it either before, during and after pregnancy. They also have maternity lingerie. I hope this helps. Check it out wwwmommyliciousmaternity.com.

Q&A: Cute maternity clothes?

I am 4 months along, and started showing pretty early..so I had/ am having this same issue. I went with belly bands, they help hide the fact that you can't button/zip your jeans! They are a temp fix, but sure do beat the cost of buying maternity clothes when you don't actually need them yet. (Can we say sticker shock on the cost of the clothes???) They say on the label "not meant to hold up pants", but honestly, they do! Much better than a cami or tank top. Hope this helps anyone out there looking for a solution when you're not far enough/ big enough to buy a new wardrobe ;)
