Q&A: Regular gym classes safe during pregnancy?

Is it okay to take regular classes at the gym while I'm pregnant, or do I have to stick to the prenatal ones?

Yes, you can still take regular classes, but as you get larger, they may be too difficult. Listen to your body -- you know it better than anyone else. If something doesn’t feel good, don’t do it. If you start to feel nauseated or lightheaded, slowly stop the exercise and relax. If this persists, talk to your doctor. Steer clear from high-impact aerobics like kickboxing and anything involving body impact. When you reach your second trimester, it’s also important to remember to stop doing exercises on your back and start doing balancing exercises with support so you don’t get injured -- pregnancy isn’t a good time for sports injuries.

Do you think kickboxing is too much of a contact class?

@ Kendra6488 my doctor said I could do pilates, abs stuff, as long as it felt comfortable. She said after awhile I just wouldn't want to do it anymore.

I do a high-energy turbo kick (like kickboxing) class a couple times a week. My doctor gave me the OK as long as I modify certain moves, that is, I don't jump and bounce as much. There are a few pregnant women in the class and we just take it easier than the others. I was doing this class for a few months before I became pregnant and I feel great doing it while pregnant! There have actually been pregnant women who have come to class right up until a couple days before they were due!

What about working out while TTC?

Q&A: Regular gym classes safe during pregnancy?

@Karla, I'm a regular heavy exerciser and asked my OBGYN about exercising while TTC. She said that as long as I wasn't increasing it too much and as long as my cycle was still consistent that it wouldn't be a problem.

I am a zumba instructor... it's a high energy combo of dance, aerobics and kickboxing.. I asked my OBGYN and he said as long as my core body temp wasn't over 105 degrees exercise is fine and recommended during pregnancy

Q&A: Regular gym classes safe during pregnancy?

in my recent aerobics certification i learned that aerobics classes while pregnant are safe. Which was great to learn considering i found out i was prego 2 weeks later! A few reminders though: If you arent used to the classes make sure you take it easy and do the low impact options, also take frequent sips of water during your work out and make sure you have plenty to drink before and after your workout, Listen to your body, obviously if it hurts or is uncomfortable DONT DO IT, keep your heart rate and body temp down and becareful when you start getting bigger because your center of gravity shifts and balance will be more difficult. Ive been on and off with my workouts since the beginning of my pregnancy and i have to say i feel a MILLION times better when i do make it to the gym so good luck and Happy Excercising Pregos!

Q&A: Regular gym classes safe during pregnancy?

I have been hearing mixed review on some of the activities I do at the gym. One in particular is pull-ups. My doctor told me just to listen to my body and I would know when I can't do things anymore but I have been hearing things of not having your arms above your head....in such a was of pull-ups or overhead squats. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Q&A: Regular gym classes safe during pregnancy?

I just found out that I'm pregnant yesterday. My husband and I go to the gym and workout (with weights) and cycle/run/do the stairstepper. I still want to go to the gym but should I stop the weight lifting or just cut the weight that i lift down? Should I even be worrying about it to much since I'm not that far along? and the cycling/jogging/and stairstepper should be fine right or should i tone that down too?

Q&A: Regular gym classes safe during pregnancy?

I'm TTC and have to admit, I'm nervous to workout. Should the workout slow down when trying? I'm kind of emberrassed to say this, but I'm nervous that the activity would "shake things up." I obviously don't understand completely how conception works as we just started TTC. Help!

My doctor told me I could continue with my cardio kickboxing class, but that it was not safe to let my heart rate get above 140 beats per minute. Now I wear a heart rate monitor to class.

It's OK to go to the gym while pregnant, but I'm not sure if bodybuilding is good for you now. I know deca steroids are good for the joints, but I'm not sure on their effects on the baby. Ask a doctor if it's better to take Lamaze classes, instead.

Gym classes for pregnancy respect a series of precaution for the baby`s health. I am well aware that there are so many legal steroids online, but make sure you consult it with your doctor first, even if you decide on taking weight loss enhancers after giving birth and after the breastfeeding phase.
