Re: Is it safe to get a Brazilian wax during pregnancy?

The Bump Expert

Barring any sensitive skin issues you might have, it's generally considered safe for pregnant women to get waxed during pregnancy. Thanks to your hormones, your hair is probably growing at a much faster rate now, which means you might find yourself more fixated on hair removal than ever before. While some mamas simply prefer shaving, others find it much more convenient (especially as their belly grows) to get waxed instead. But if you find your skin is more sensitive these days, try using a soothing lotion before and after waxing sessions to reduce any additional redness or swelling. Just make sure you go to a reputable (and clean) salon or spa.

Q: Is it safe to get a Brazilian wax during pregnancy?

It's perfectly safe. I'm an esthetician, I wax people and I see a fellow esthetician to get waxed. I go get my brazilians done regularly every four weeks and I wax my own legs from the knee down. It won't send you into labor and it does make life a lot easier. At most your baby may jump around a little bit. I feel so much cleaner with all of that gone and I'm afraid of putting a razor anywhere I can't see. Shaving in the shower is dangerous to me. I'm so clumsy and my equalibrium is so off. I'm more likely now than ever to slip and fall. Besides waxing only needs to be done like once a month virsus shaving everyday and the hair grows back slower and finer each time. GOOOOO BRAZILIANS!!!!

Two tricks I've learned that help: Buy orajel, yes the tooth numbing cream, and rub it into the area you are having waxed about 10-15 minutes ahead of time. This gives it time to allow the numbing to take place. It doesn't numb completely, but obviously it takes a bit of the sting away. Also, purchase Tendskin from Sephora, your local salon or spa etc. and apply it with a cotton ball to the area you had waxed after you get home. It prevents ingrown hairs and other irritation. Good luck!

What about laser treatments? Are these safe? Also, try Emla cream instead of orajel, its made for things like this. You'll barely feel anything.

Q: Is it safe to get a Brazilian wax during pregnancy?

My husband left 5 days after we found out I was pregnant, for his deployment, I was only 8 weeks along and barely showing. I'm very petite and am already having the insecurities about my body. When he gets home I'll be about 7-8 months pregnant and we'll both be ready for the sexual part of our relationship to get back into the swing of things (as much as we can with my belly being in the way :-D) I want to get a brazilian but I wonder how uncomfortable it will be afterwards? As an esthetician you dont care give a pregnant woman in her final stages of pregnancy, a brazilian??

I can say that I was waxed when I was 4 weeks and completely unaware that I was pregnant. It was strange because for me it hurt less than the first time (I just started waxing my underarms... call me crazy but I really like the fact that I don't have to shave there every day anymore!) I know this isn't a place to advertise but I just wanted to throw it out there... I started going to a new place, European Wax Centers, I don't flinch, jump, or even cry (yes it used to hurt so much I cried) anymore... I love it! I would suggest to see if there is one in your area!

I waxed myself up until I started getting my bump and it made things a little awkward. I took a few months off, now at 7 months things were getting embarrassing down there. Hubby said he didn't care, but I did! So, I went to a pro and it hurt way less than I thought it would. Only problem was swelling and pain for 2 days after. It's worth it, but it did hurt afterwords for me. I'll go back in another 6 weeks to keep the area nice and tidy, just in case baby comes early! They say waxing everything (yes EVERYTHING) is better for delivery and just in case you need a c-section, they don't have to shave it for you... should help with the stitches and stuff after the baby is born. Either way, it's easy to do nothing, and it's easy to go get waxed and do nothing for a month in between waxing. Just be sure you tell your waxer that you're pregnant.

I am a licensed Esthetician and do brazilians on myself, however it is getting a little more difficult. It is safe to get Brazilians during pregnancy however your hormones make you much more sensitive to pain. It is not safe to use tendskin, PFB or any other products that contain salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is used in acne products and is what helps with ingrown hairs. It also isn't safe to use topical numbers. Check your products : )

I'm almost 5months (19weeks) and get it done once every 4weeks....and haven't stoppped since finding out I was preganant. As long as a new applicator is used with every application (to avoid infection), you should be fine.

Q: Is it safe to get a Brazilian wax during pregnancy?

I went for the first time in my life a month ago, the pain was so bad I could only stand a bikini wax, underarms were not that bad, but the bikini area was painful. My skin is very sensitive to pain and the wax that was used was called hard wax, which is less painful than wax and strip. After a month, I went back this weekend and got a little more done, I'm almost at the full Brazilian, but it was again so painful I noticed some small dots of blood down there, it's obviously from the waxing not from the baby. The positions are uncomfortable, but I'm hoping this helps me. I hope I forget the pain by the time I go again... I don't want the pain but refuse to be a hairy fairy!!! Lol! I'm going to try oragel next time.

I never got a Brazilian until my second pregnancy. I've gone twice. I found the second time to be less painful however I swelled a little longer. Anyone have any tips to reduce swelling?

You can call 1-800-733-4727 for free and confident information. I call them weekly with questions about things I can and cannot use while pregnant and they don't get annoyed. :)

My OB said waxes are fine and confirmed that due to increased blood flow to the area, bikini/brazilian waxes cause more pain and irritation to the pregnant woman than non-pregnant woman- and she even GAVE me a script for EMLA cream beforehand- seeing as it will be used only a handful of times on isolated occasions, she did not see the harm in using it sparingly.
