When do you start showing during your first pregnancy?

It really depends on you. Your fetus is pretty tiny in the first two months, so other people won't be able to see much -- if any -- change in your belly. If this is your first pregnancy, it often shows later than women who've already been through it once.

By about 12 weeks, when the top of the uterus has grown up and out of the pelvic cavity, you'll probably be able to feel it just above the pubic bone. This significant change usually signals the beginnings of your visible baby bump... meaning, time to start the maternity clothes shopping! (Or at least pick up a Bella Band.)

Its so true and so annoying, the answer is simply that not only is it different for every woman, but its different with every pregnancy too. I am 10 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy, and barely showing. However, by this stage with my first, I had a noticable bump that I used to hold my hands over to make sure everyone knew I was pregnant and not just fat!! This time around I started my pregnancy about 12 pounds lighter than I did last time, so am wondering if that has anything to do with it. Also, this time around my bosom has slightly increased, yet last time I pratically got implants overnight! Its so crazy handing your body over to something/someone else and not knowing what the heck its guna do on you!

more of little question than a comment, but if you are very thin will you show sooner? by very thin, im technically considered slightly underweight, but not enough for drs to be worried. My mother and grandmother are the same way. I'd ask them but I haven't shared the news yet.

In the morning I look totally normal, but by the end of the day, my husband lovingly jokes about my noticeable "baby weight." Ironically, he is "showing" more than I am, with all of his recent sympathy eating. Who else has noticed baby bumps on their significant other???

With my first, I started showing fairly quickly, however not as quickly as with my second!! I am now 11 weeks and have been wearing maternity pants (since my regular pants didn't button/zipped anymore) since week 9! I am tall and in a healthy weight (not as slender as before my first). It feels kind of strange I must admit....I was not ready to tell the world I was pregnant just yet and here I am looking like 4-5 months long, at least it feels that big, oh well :) as long as he/she is healthy, right??? :-)

I am almost 9 weeks and I can definitely see the beginnings of a baby bump. This is my first so I was a little surprised that is was noticeable already, but I think it's different for everyone. It depends on your height, weight and how much stomach muscle you had before hand, plus how much you're eating and how much your uterus has grown. But, I agree with IVFrocks, as long as the baby is healthy, bring on the bump whenever! And no, snowgrlz, don't let people like that get to you. Enjoy every second of your pregnancy, getting bigger is one of the beautiful parts of expecting.

The bottom line is that everyone is different. I'm 9 weeks and I have a slight baby bump, I have friend that's 4 1/2 months and you can barely tell she's pregnant. Just enjoy your pregnancy and your baby bump whenever it decides to make it's appearance. I have found that a bella band (mines call a beband I got it at target) is a life saver. Whether it's bloat or beginning of baby it really helps with those jeans that may still button but are getting uncomfortable. It looks like you have a layered tank on underneath your top. However, my doctor says my uterus is tilted backward and therefore it will probably take longer for me to show than someone who has a non-tilted uterus or one that is tilted forward.

To vmardones: I am overweight and just found out two weeks ago that I am pregnant with my second. I weight a good 40 pounds more than I did when I was pregnant with my first. (I never lost the baby weight due to hypothyroids) Despite the fact that I am noticeably overweight I am already showing at 6 weeks. By showing I mean there is a belly there and even though I thought it just looked like a larger tummy for a larger woman I have been asked many times how far along I am already! I don't know if it is a multiples birth, or because it is my second or just simply that I am just showing early. Whatever it is there is no denying my baby bump has started.

I am 10 weeks and have been showing for most of the pregnancy. This is my first child, and I feel like I am having twins, but when we did the ultrasound today doc said he could only see one baby. Does everyone feel this way, cause I feel huge i was a size five before i got pregnant i could not wear a seven 4 weeks ago. My co-workers say that I am showing way before they did, and the weirdest thing is I am eating healthy like I did before I got pregnant. No nausea, no cravings. Also no beef, ice cream, or chocolate. To vmardones: This is my first pregnancy and I'm significantly overweight. I'm currently 16 weeks and I can notice my little bump because when I suck in my stomach I can feel the hardness of my uterus and feel that it's getting bigger. However when I'm at work my pants are tight and I wear a belly band, but no one can really tell that I'm pregnant. I imagine that if I started out at a size 2 or 4 it would be very noticeable by now. I think that's just another one of the downfalls of being overweight during pregnancy, it's a lot harder to notice a cute baby bump. I'm hoping that by my 20 week ultrasound I'll at least look a little pregnant :)

I feel like I am goin mad, how can I be showing this early??? But I am, my belly has just popped rite out and I cant even suck it in to make me look slimmer,it even feels really hard too! I think that when people know how far I am they will think I am sticking it out for attention but its not the case. I have come to the conclution that every woman is different and so is every pregnancy, and that bump will show sooner if you have had another baby. So I dont care what others think, I cant help it and at least my baby i healthy!!! :) And if anyone is worring that they arnt showing,dont worry u will sooner or later, as long as u know ur lil baby is ok thats all that counts!!! xxxx

It definitely differs from woman-to-woman and with each pregnancy. I'm 8 weeks into my fourth pregnancy (even though this is my 3rd baby), and I swear I had a bump at 6 weeks. With my first child I didn't show until I was almost 7 months pregnant, but with my second child I had a solid baby bump at 3 months. I broke out the maternity clothes this week because even though I can still get my regular pants on, they just arent' comfortable with that belly band. I'm still not big enough for maternity shirts, but this is definitely the earliest I started showing.

I am 9 weeks and I have gained 5lbs total since finding out I was pregnant but my first appointment was at 7 weeks and since that appointment I have gained 2lbs, Im not sure which one I should go by but I know that over Thanksgiving I ate so much food and I was bloated and gained a lot of weight. My pants were so tight and I looked like I was showing a little, but now that Thanksgiving is over I have lost what I gained from those dinners and Im back to normal, just my pants are getting a little tighter. I am now 11 weeks along and not showing yet. I gained the 5lb I was supposed to in the first trimester, I think I actually gained more like 6 ot 7 with the holidays. I'm 8 weeks, and cant decide yet if my inability to button my pants is the effects of chowing down over the holidays that just passed, or due to the pregnancy. I definitely feel bloated! and know i did gain weight from the holidays, but have noticed just recently that while i can still button my pants, it has become uncomfortable. I was unbuttoning and half way unzipping my pants, and folding them down, but just bought one of those belly bands, that thing is nice, and i'm not constantly pulling up my jeans! haha While i'm anxious to claim that i'm "showing", i'm cautious not to jump ahead of myself, it could just be bloating. I'm just over 7 weeks and swear that I am starting to show already (at least that I notice). I showed a little earlier with my first, but this pregnancy has been completely different in other ways. I haven't gained more than a pound or two, but my stomach is noticeably bumped out and harder, and my pants are getting tighter. I haven't been eating much more than usual since I haven't felt good lately, but again, I swear I have a little bump already. Twins is definitely on my mind...and my first child was 9 lbs on time, and my husband's mom had large babies, getting bigger each time. He was 10 lbs 14 1/2 oz! Maybe the combination of it being my second time and a larger baby, combined with some gas and bloating, is giving me an early baby bump. Who knows!?!

I was told I was 8 weeks until last week when i went in for my check up and they told me I was actually due Christmas day which moved me up to about 10 1/2 weeks. I felt like I was getting the "baby bloat" but my dr measured my tummy an said i grew a little and I am just showing a little earlier than most. I am not a very petite girl i weigh about 139 right now my normal weight is 130 so I am not that overwieght either. Doctor said it is just dependant on your body and how it wants to react. This is my first child as well. I have a friend who barely weighed 100 lbs and she didnt show until about 7 1/2 months. Good luck to everyone!

I am in the middle of my 6th week and getting married in 5 weeks. Needless to say I am a bit worried that I will be showing at 11 weeks due to this unexpected blessing. My dress is flowy but we would like to keep it under wraps until after the big day. Any advice out there???? Thank you!

I got married this past weekend, at exactly 10 weeks, and BARELY fit into my dress. I'm pretty sure it's an equal combo of baby and being unable to maintain good posture because of nausea, but there is definitely a bit of a bump starting. I wore a slightly-too-big set of Spanx (because no one locally sold the maternity style of any control garments), and it was fine: honestly, I don't think it made too much of a difference regarding fit, but I felt much more comfortable and confident knowing there was something helping my tummy stay hidden. I've got a pretty normal frame, so if you're in the same boat as me, I strongly recommend some kind of control undergarment, for sanity's sake if nothing else!

At 6 months and 1 week (so, at 25 weeks) nobody even knew I was pregnant and I was even wearing summer clothes that showed a bit of skin (as normal summer clothes do - as opposed to big, bulky winter sweaters is my point). I had an emergency abdominal issue followed by surgery that kept me hospitalized for 2+ weeks when I was 25wks along. When I came out I looked like the goodyear blimp! BUT it was all swelling from the surgery as I had lost all body fat, muscle, etc from them not letting me eat for 2 weeks while they figured out what was wrong with me. Now, at 37 weeks, I'm about the same size as when I came out of the hospital actually (at around 7 months along). Most people still can't tell I'm pregnant unless I intentionally let it show. I'm still wearing my size 0's for shorts and size small in shirts, but have gained about 17 pounds total. And yes, my son is of normal size - he was actually a bit on the large size up until my surgery, but he's right where he should be now and midwife says to expect a 7-7.5 pounder! The countdown is on too - I'm being induced in 15 days!! :) I think getting back into shape will be a breeze considering I never stopped exercising and haven't gained too much. With my first son I weighed 177 - I weigh 124 today as I sit here. It's all about watching what you eat, mild but daily exercise, and not 'letting yourself go' as I did last time.

I am 14 weeks with my first and started really "popping out" last week. I think this is a lot of baby bloat though! In the morning, my bump is definitely less pronounced, and it's much more noticeable after I eat...which is how I know it's a lot of bloat and not a lot of baby! I think how much you show and when depends on your body type and how your body responds to the pregnancy and the hormones. I was always bloated after eating even before I was pregnant, so it's no surprise I am bloated now!

(I'm bottom heavy and I'm a 38D, Doc days that's the reason i tip the scale a little. I like to call myself pleasantly plump! When I was only one week prego, before I even missed my period, I had someone, a complete stranger at that, ask me if I was expecting. I am of average size and this seriously hurt my feelings. But then I took a preg test and boom, she was right...maybe she could sense it somehow. At 7 weeks prego now, I am being teased that I look like I am four or five months along, and I have barely been to see the doctor, sshheeesh. But, I do know it's different for everyone, and I am glad to show off my belly, I think so anyways. I'm at the end of 12 weeks with my first. I can feel a difference in my stomach, the hardness above my pelvic bone, a little extra pooch, harder to button my jeans, etc. It's no obvious to the world though. I can still wear all my regular clothes, but I do notice the one spot that has had significant growth is my waist. I had a 24 inch waist and now I'm around 26 inches... which for my super petite build and height is kind of nerve wracking. Also, I get very moody if I go try on clothes, I don't know why I am still shopping for regular clothes (I'm a fashion fiend and will not buy maternity clothes until the moment I have to, and even then they won't be "maternity" clothes). Anyhow, so I get pissed off because nothing fits me the right way. It's definitely an awkward faze that I would appreciate more if I were just showing so it could be noticeable and obvious to me and the world.

With my first I didn't begin to show until about 6 months, and I was very tiny then, even a little underweight actually! With my second I showed pretty quickly, I was a little heavier than the first time around though also. Now, this time, only 16 months after having my 2nd baby, I haven't lost any baby weight and am 11 weeks and not showing at all, probably due to the fact that I am starting this journey overweight this time! But the Dr said my uterus is the size it should be right now. Every woman and even every baby is different :)

a lot of what people think is baby belly in the very beginning-under 12 weeks... seems to be a whole of gas and poop lol. our digestive tracts are slowed and that makes for a pretty nice amount of bloating. when you start seeing your uterus above your pelvic bone its safe to assume you have a little baby belly going on :) the disappearing and appearing belly spoke of in someones comments is more than likely gas and bloating. in the morning

In my first pregnancy I didn't start showing until about 7 months or a bit after! I was NOT overweight at the time I was 5'7" and weighed about 155lbs, which I always thought was big but the doctors said because of how tall I was that I was not considered overweight. (I'm just pointing that out because I was not showing because I already had a 'tummy' or something... lol) I kept worrying something was wrong but then i read that during first pregnancies it takes awhile sometimes because your body is not use to stretching. My second pregnancy (which was twins), I'm not really sure when I started showing but it had to of been between 3-5 months and now I'm pregnant again (only 11 weeks) and I already feel uncomfortable laying on my stomach so I think it's beginning to bulge already!

I am on my 10th week. This is my 2nd pregnancy, my last being 17 yrs ago. I never completely lost the extra skin from my daughter. Anyway, at 7 weeks I went and had an ultrasound, I was so bloated and having difficulty wearing buttoned bottoms that I for certain thought I was having twins. In the ultrasound they saw a huge fibroid extending off my uterus, double the size of my uterus. As a result, at 7 weeks, I look 10 to 12 weeks and as my hormone levels increase, my fibroid will grow and my baby bump will be pushed forward. So, with that said, anyone over 30 I suspect is more susceptible to having fibroids and with pregnancy they grow. I am 37. Crazy thing, is that my area around my belly button is protruding...and it's hard. Looks funky under shirts and makes me more of a barrel type baby bump. Wishing everyone well and wonderful healthy babies :)

I keep seeing everyone saying they're bloated but I don't feel bloated. I mean I was in the beginning and I had that, I can hear the gas moving around moments, but I don't feel bloated now and I'm so nauseated that I would guess I have lost weight now rather than gained it in these last few days. I'm pretty overweight and I carry some weight in the middle but it's high and the hardening I feel in my lower stomach makes me feel like I'm just evening out. I just can't believe my boobs have grown so much. I had to go to some Lane Bryant ones I bought a while back and seemed a little big and now they fit just fine. I hope they go down after this cause they were big before the pregnancy.

I'm at 18 weeks with a definite bump--when naked. HOWEVER, no one can tell, and even when I say I'm pregnant people think I'm not very far along. FWIW I have always had large boobs and round butt and recently--a small waist. I must admit, when I was heavier, I looked pretty much the way I look now at 18 weeks. People carry weight differently, so though I notice I've put on 4-5 inches on my waist, my usually hourglass figure just looks like a more average figure--nothing that screams PREGNANT. Actually it's a huge let down. I'm 5'0" if that makes a difference. I started at 108 and I'm now at 119.

I'm 11 weeks today! I have a slight bulge but it's not hard. I'm 5'3" and started at 131 when I was 4weeks and I'm now 132:) I crave all things healthy and hardly get nauseous so I'm not gaining weight anywhere but baby;) I used to have a flat belly and now I have to use a hair tie on some of my jeans! Only myself, my close friends and my husband can tell the difference though...I'm ready to look pregnant and not like I've ate too many bags of cheetoes;)

I am 8 weeks tomorrow with my first and i def feel/see a difference. I'm in good shape (still going to gym so i stay that way lol) and nobody else can see, but my clothes are getting snug. My waist got thicker, So in efforts to stay comfortable and not cranky at work, i'm already wearing maternity skinny jeans. They only have a small band at the top and i'll prolly be able to wear these for another 2 or 3 months. They are sooooo comfy! I'm also like a few of you, In the morning i'm flat but by the end of the day i'm popped out & bloated lol Listen to your bodys ladies & be comfy!

So much depends on each woman and each pregnancy. For example, I am not showing at all but I am 6 feet tall so I think I have a lot of room for a developing baby to hide, lol! Obviously the same size baby with the same amount of fluid will show up more on a smaller person than a taller person. Secondly, someone who is overweight may show slightly but it may just appear they've gained more weight where as a thinner person will look like they have a "baby bump". Showing early, not showing early, it's all ok and normal. You'll be showing soon enough so enjoy your feet while you can still reach them!!!

I'm almost 12 weeks and I am definitely showing! For a while it was just that I couldn't button my jeans so I got a Bella Band but now it's obvious. I'm nervous b/c I'm not ready to annouce it at work just yet but I'm afraid people will notice! Or they'll think I'm just fat :( I want to get through another few weeks to make sure we;re safe and then I can announce it at work, look "fat" and it won't matter!

I am 11 weeks with my first baby and started at 105 lbs. Due to severe hyperemesis gravidarum, I've lost weight and am now 93 lbs. (I'm 5'2). I am not showing at all, my stomach is so flat. I worked out a lot before so that's a probably why. I can't wait to have that cute baby bump! My dr said I probably will show later than most people :( Unfortunately my boobs have gone from a 32DD to a 32F! I dread to see how much bigger they are going to get.

i'm 12 weeks and i'm not showing at all nor have i gained any weight. i'm only 105 lbs(technically i guess that is underweight for my height,i'm 5'6) but i'm healthy. my waist is only about 25 inches and all my pants still fit fine. i read that if you have tight ab muscles it will take longer to show. i'd rather show later because 9 months is long time. i'd feel better to only show for like 3 months or so...just me. a friend of mine said she didn't show until 6 months. she woke up one morning and all the sudden could tell.

I am 10 weeks and 4 days with my first baby.. I have that come and go belly.. I look normal in the morning but by mid afternoon and through the rest of the night I have a little bump. I feel bloated all the time though so it just makes me think I look fat. My normal clothes are getting too tight so I wear jeggings or maternity jeans for comfort but shirts are still too big for me so I am wearing a lot of lose tops! :) Cant wait for my not come and go belly though.

I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow, and while I've definitely gained weight (I look pretty hefty compared to pre-pregnancy), there's no definitive bump yet. Just a lot of extra flab in the abdominal region. In the mornings I can feel that my stomach is a bit harder and protrudes further than it normally does while lying supine, but when I'm standing, I might as well have just eaten too much breakfast. Can't wait for a true bump!!

I started out at 130 lbs & at 5'4 pre-pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy and from about weeks 8 to 12 I felt that my stomach stuck out just a little more than usual but I felt it was just because of bloating. I'm 13 weeks and 1 day now and the bloating has gone way down and my bump is beginning to pop out. It's noticeable to me and family and friends but I can't wait to really start showing.

I'm almost 18 weeks and have the slightest pooch! I can actually see the outline of my uterus on my stomach, but it barely sticks out! I'm not worried, I have regularly felt baby move since 15 wks and 3 days and have gained about 14 lbs. I have chronic back problems and my physio therapist says that how much it shows has a lot to do with core strength, fitness level and build. I thought I would show fast, because I don't carry and weight on my stomach, but I guess I do a good job with my core!

typically your baby goes through a growth spurt around 21-23 weeks. this is usually when an average sized woman begins to show. if you're very thin, earlier, if you're overweight, then later. subsequent pregnancies usually show earlier than your first one because your muscles are already stretched out a bit. dont worry, we'll all be huge soon enough...in a good, pregnant way, of course!

I think it really depends on your abdominal strength. I am 18 weeks with my first and I am still not showing, still wearing my regular clothes and haven't gained any weight. I was kind of worried but my doctor said it is because I work out so much. (personal trainer, fitness instructor). I am hoping to show soon because it is weird telling people how far along I am when no one can tell I am pregnant.

I am between 7-9weeks pregnant and I already have a belly. I am 5'7 and 130 ponds and my bumps pretty noticeable in form fitting clothing. All the girls in my family got big quick and had very large babysit though. I myself was 11pounds at birth so I don't know if that's something that can run in ur genes or what, but I have a def. baby bump already. Hope this helps! Oh and this is my first!

I'm 12 weeks 2 days and not showing yet, though I have gained about 3-4 lbs and feel uncomfortable in most of my clothing because it seems to all be in my mid-section. I am 5'7" and was 155 before pregnancy and not in very good shape at all, so my tummy muscles are definitely not to thank for my lack of a bump. Seems as though the most consistent information regarding when one will start to show is that it's entirely individual.

im 9 wks and tho im not showing my jeans are def not comfy any more. ive been living in yoga pants for the last two weeks. granted i started my pregnancy a bit over weight so this may have something to do with it!(im 5'2" and 154lbs tho muscular as well) this is my first pregnancy and ive done alot of research, everything ive seen says its alot to do with body type and size. like my friends wife has quite wide hips so she didnt show til after month 5! same for another girl i know. now my mom has no hips and showed early and stuck way out. so im thinking it def has to do with hip size. bigger hips means youll carry in further than those who dont have much hips. a friend of mine is a week ahead of me, and shes fine in her jeans, but she also has much bigger hips than me, im looking forward to my baby bump showing up!:)

with my first i started to show around 10-11 weeks but not much by the time i was 16 weeks tho i looked about 6 months pregnant!! i am now 10 weeks and im already showing with my second baby but i also did lose a baby back in late january... im guessing some people just have good genes becuase my daughters aunt who was pregnant with me while i was with my daughter did not show until she was 7 months!! it all depends with your body!

I am nearly 10 weeks and when I was just 9 weeks people started to notice. At the beginning of the day it's not so bad, but by afternoon (after breakfast and lunch) it's a little bump. Maybe because food is digesting slower and everything is moving much slower through the body, but it kind of bugs me. I am pretty sensitive about my weight (I used to be told I was fat every day, and it just always stuck). Before I got pregnant I was at the very bottom of my weight category for my height. I have told some people (am also a single mom so need the extra support), but it still bothers me when people comment on my little belly. I still fit into some of my pants, but not all.

I have made it to 12 weeks with my first pregnancy. I'm a little overweight to start, but since getting pregnant I've actually lost a couple pounds. Not intentionally, just eating healthier I think. Some of my clothes have been uncomfortable since week 8, but I just bought my first pair of maternity pants this week. My bump is there, but not terribly obvious to others just yet. As much as I am looking forward to the obvious bump, I'm really enjoying not feeling nauseated anymore so this is a good point in my baby story!

I am 14 weeks along. My clothes are fitting different but I don't have a noticeable bump. I was a healthy weight when I got pregnant. My friends see it but I don't. They can even feel the baby moving if they press where my uterus is. Then again one friend has had five kids so she pretty much knows how it goes :)
