Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am constantly nauseated! Why?

Re: I am constantly nauseated! Why?

The Bump Expert

What causes morning sickness?

Before your pregnancy, you probably imagined that when you woke up in the morning, you’d be nauseous, throw up, and then go on with your day. Well…not so much. Whoever decided to call it “morning sickness” was probably sleeping through the day because it doesn’t discriminate between the morning, afternoon, or evening.

There’s no clear answer as to why nausea occurs during pregnancy, although it’s believed that it’s due to hormonal changes (that seems to be the answer to everything these days). Generally the nausea isn’t too overwhelming, and by mid-pregnancy, you should be relieved of it, mostly. But, if your nausea and vomiting are excessive, then talk to your doctor because it may be hyperemesis gravidarum, a rare complication that results in a poor intake of fluids and food (and a hungry baby).

Although you can’t really prevent morning sickness, studies show that women who took multivitamins before conception are less likely to get nauseous -- so, if you’re TTC, start sucking those vitamins down now.

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

This may be true. I begin taking vitamins three months before TTC. At 10 weeks, I still haven't had any signs of M/S. Now, let's hope that continues to be the case!

DM1908 |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I don't know about that. I had been taking prenatals for nearly a year prior to conception, I'm at 7 weeks now and I have been extremely queasy with occasional nausea for the last 2 weeks. For my first pregnancy, I didn't even take prenatals at all and only had a tiny bit of M/S (in the morning only!) for a few weeks.

kc28wa |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

Yeah, I have to disagree with the claim vitamins make it better - or nonexistent. I started taking prenatals about six months before TTC, I'm now 10 weeks pregnant and I'm suffering with morning sickness ALL THE TIME. I'm nauseated from the moment I wake up to nearly the moment I go to sleep at night. I think it's based entirely on your body and how you personally respond to the pregnancy.

Rockafellow2b |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I had no idea the morning sickness would start so soon. its even worse because I work at a grocery store as a cashier and everytime something goes through my line I wanna throw up.

margaret_howell |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

That's a crock. I have been on prenatals for almost 3 years because of TTC, having a baby and then nursing. I'm now about 7 weeks, and am puking, plus I puked for 7 months straight with my first. They don't know what causes it for a lot of people, and clearly they don't care or it would be figured out by now.

erinkate86 |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

hmmm i think the vitamin taking is not preventing morning sickness i have been taking vitamins my whole life and i am 7 weeks pregnant and i am sick all day long

mjmaycrew |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I remember with my first pregnancy I only got M/S when I took the prenatals. They were horse pills. The second I stoped taking them and switched to individual suppliments the m/s stoped. I had never taken a vitamen in my life back then. This time around I started taking suppliments several months before hand trying to conceive. I still take mild organic prenatals and individual suppliments and I have not had morning sickness yet. If it was a guess I would say the iron in the big prenatals is just too harsh. Try a milder prenatal or get your nutrition naturally! See if it helps. Also the first time around peppermints and black cherries really helped the nausia.

PamelaMalone |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

With my first pregnancy I had absolutely no morning sickness at all. I am 7-8 weeks now and had nausea pretty much all day every day. I did switch vitamins and it has helped but am still sick to my stomach. No vomitting just sour stomach. So, I'm no really sure if it has alot to do with the vitamins. I think it has more to do with the sex of your baby and how your body reacts to the different hormones associated with the sex of the baby.

chikalele |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I took prenatal vitamins 3 months prior to concieving and I still had so much morning sickness, I was out of commission for 2 weeks, 2 days in the hospital with dehyrdation!! It just depends on your body and your hormones! It will pass! That is the good thing!!!

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I started taking prenatal vitamins right away when I found out I was pregnant and the morning sickness (or all day sickness for me) is HORRIBLE! I am 6 weeks and this week has been aweful....I definitely was not this sick with my first child....my doc gave me a prescription for Phenergan a couple days ago and that seems to help a bit but is making me SUPER tired....more than normal...guess I can't have it all!

lbishop03 |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

This is my first pregnancy and I am in my 6th week and the nausea has begun to the point I slept on the bathroom floor last night (never did vomit). I don't know what to do.

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

Wow, I have not experienced really any M/S. I took prenatal pills on and off for about 3 months prior to conception, but I was completly consistent like I am now! I get naseuos every now and then, and really noticed when I hit 6 weeks, but I have not been to the point that I need to go to the bathroom to puke! I noticed that I am mostly nauteous when I am hungry or have an empty tummy. It does not hold back when i'm hungry, I get a lot of hunger pains and growls!!

I ment htat I was NOT completely consistent taking prenatals prior to conception....sorry!

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I started taking pre-natties 6 months before conceiving and I am 24/7 nauseas for the last 9 days. I'm 7 weeks along and I can't imagine feeling this way for weeks to come. I'm so exhausted b/c I wake up several times during the night from feeling sick. I wish I could just vomit and feel better!

BONNIEBELLE1120 |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I too, took prenatal vitamins for 3 months prior to conception, and at 5 weeks became constantly nauseated. I put real ginger in my drinks and it has been a miracle cure. It doesn't taste great but it helps within 20 minutes and lasts for hours.

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I had hyperemesis for my pregnancy & it was HORRIBLE. I was on disability because of it. I was sick all nine months...my doctor had to take me off prenatals because they were too harsh for my stomach and I never kept them down. I COMPLETELY disagree with the idea they make it better if taken a few months before.

I'm only 6 weeks and my m/s started a few days ago. It bothers me most when my tummy is empty or I'm way overtired. I took prenatals for 9 months while TTC and I don't know if I can say they are helping. Just hoping the m/s doesn't get worse than this!

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I am just about 9 weeks pregnant and have been sick all day, everyday since about 6 1/2 weeks. I started taking Prenatal Vitamins and Folic Acid 6 Months before I got pregnant. Soooooo as far as I'm concerned, that theory disn't work for me. Just hoping this M/S a.k.a. All Day Sickness goes away soon.

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I have a cousin that was born with many birth defects (cleft palate, blind, autistic, ect...) Which was all due to her mother using an experimental morning sickness drug while stationed in Germany back in the 1950's. The only reason she has lived this long is because her step-mother has dedicated her life to her, even after her father passed away. However, her mother is still living, just not involved in her life, nor has she ever been.Just be proud of the fact that you are pregnant. And accept that the process of creating a human being is complicated. And appreciate the fact that you are able to achieve in 9 months what took God possibly millions of years (debateable, I know). I looked it up before replying...

nikkilou78 |

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

The morning sickness drug was Thalidomide. Look it up under Thalidomide tragedy. Alot of good info. This drug has also been linked to deformities in animals near factory waste disposal areas.

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I am 6 weeks, 3 days pregnant and my nausea/sickness started at exactly the beginning of my 6th week. I was taking prenatals before conception and it clearly didn't help. I'm excited to be pregnant, but miserable at the same time, due to the sickness and fatigue, not to mention HORMONES!!! I literally just sat at my desk and cried for an hour because i'm so beside myself. All i can do is think about the miracle going on inside me and look forward to the day when i can hold my little baby!

re: Q: Causes of morning sickness?

I am 9 weeks. I've read that you are actually hungry when youre nausous. It can be hard to eat when you feel like this though. I also do not agree with the viatmin thing. I've been taking prenatals for just over a year before becoming pregnant. I also tend to feel more sick after I have taken my vitamin for the day.

cebluvzmac |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

i was also heard that nausea is due to hunger. so as soon as you may be feeling waves of nausea (as i do) eat something. i am 6 weeks and 5 days, so far that advice has helped with my nausea. in response to nikkilou, it did not take the Judeo-Christian God millions of years to create us. God simply spoke the word and we were created!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I actually just ran to publix and started taking Flinstones complete. Ive been on prenexa sense TTC, and the past few weeks, I have been nauseated ALL day. The thought, sight, or smell of food makes me sick. No matter what time of day. I havent actually vomitted yet. But I sure feel like it. But my sister in-law told me it could be from the prenatals, due to too much iron. I havent taken them for a few days, and I feel decent today. So, im going to try the flinstone. According to her doctor, you should take 2 flinstones a day to equal about the same of a regular prenatal. I was really hesitant, but im going to try and see how I feel.

amandafikri |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

My uncle had CF, and I find that when I'm nautious, its due to having too much mucus sitting on my stomach. I know this sounds totally gross, but its a fact. I read (somewhere on the bump) that you produce more mucus when you're pregnant, and obviously, its not something that your stomach can use, so I think its just trying to purge it from your system.

Faeliea |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Sea Bands work great at relieving nausea and other m/s symptoms. The great part is that they can be worn all day.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

This is my first pregnancy and I have bad m/s...I guess its bad I don't have anything to compare too, but this is not what I expected. I asked my midwife what to do and she suggested eating more protein and less carbs. Something to do with my blood sugar being too high because of the way a pregnant women processes sugars. So far it helps a little but I'm just counting the days until the 1st trimester is over...hopefully m/s goes with it!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 6 weeks and I am really nauseous, I can't seem to throw up, I wish I could, I think it would make me feel better. I don't mind being sick because I am getting a blessing out of it. However, it would be nice to know what we can do to help minimize the sickness and/or find out the cause.

hhaberman |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm 6 weeks and extremely sick. I have the same problem, I wish I could throw up because I think it would make me feel better, at least for a little while. Sometimes I find that a piece of toast right before bed helps a little for the next morning. My dr. just recommended emetrol which is an over the counter for nausea so we'll see how that works!

CourtneyS24 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am now in my 9th week of my second pregnancy and I can tell a huge difference in this pregnancy already. I have gained one pound and have been nauseated only when I let myself get too hungry (light snacks every hour and a half to two hours). With my first pregnancy, I didn't start taking prenatal vitamins until I was 7 weeks pregnant and I was sick from 7 weeks to 21 weeks and couldn't even keep down water and saltines. I acutally started prenatal vitamins 2 months before conceiving and I believe that is what has made the difference.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Well ladies unfortunately i only know what does not work for me and they are sea bands, saltine crackers, gingerale, I also know that this nasal drip does not help and the extra mucas makes me even sicker. I am 8 weeks and I am sick morning, noon, and night. I cant hold water, or any other liquid for over 10 minutes after drinking, the only thing I can eat is oatmeal, and noodles, This is my second child and these are the exact same symptoms so farexcept i had m/s through the whole nine months.. I am hoping that this time it stops soon.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm about 10 1/2 weeks right now and it seems that my morning sickness is finally starting to ease up. A couple days ago I stumbled onto something that helps settle my stomach when it's just beginning to get upset- Watermelon Splash gum by Trident. It seems to help me when I just start to feel icky in the afternoon or evening.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I will be 6 weeks tomorrow and haven't had too much m/s. Monday morning I woke up and my wonderful husband helped me get ready for work... I was taking prenatal vitamins for a few months starting back in Nov. 2008 but had a m/c. Continued taking them through about April 09 whn I had my second m/c. After the 2nd m/c the vitamins were making me very nauseous so my doctor told me to take two flinstones vitamins aday instead. Those seemed to be doing the job fine but then I ran out so I have been taking the original prenatals the past couple days and I seem fine. I hope the m/s does not come my way and hopefully gets better for everyone else who is dealing with it. Just keep reminding yourself of the wonderful baby you will soon hold in your arms!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am almost 6 weeks pregnant. I started to have slight nausea and indigestion around 4 and half weeks. I sometimes suffer from IBS and when I do I take this aloe herbal supplement that I get from Whole Foods and is very effective. The bottle says safe for pregnant women and is the best stomach formula for nausea and digestion issues. I have been using it when I feel sick and it works immediately! I haven't had severe nausea yet though so I'm not sure it helps with that or not but it's worth a try. The brand is Aloe LIfe and can probably be found online if there isn't a Whole Foods in your area.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

At 5 1/2 weeks I was nervous that I didn't have any queasiness and then the day I hit 6 weeks, I got morning sickness- like clockwork. I am now fighting my way through the day and nights wishing I would throw up rather than have this constant nausea. I spent most of last night and today on the bathroom floor feeling like I was going to throw up... never happened. I had a little relief this evening and now it has hit again and I am worried I will get no sleep again. I am a wimp when it comes to nausea so I'm pretty miserable these days. Beachgirl78- Be glad you don't have morning sickness yet and if you don't get it, but don't be surprised if it hits next week.

It rarely gets better unless I can find something to eat that the thought of doesn't make me want to gag haha I haven't thrown up yet, but the M/S is there!! I camp out on the bathroom floor a lot!! It seems like its when I'm hungry...then when I get nauseous, it sometimes feels better if I get a burp out....I sound so gross I know, but hey...it helps! Oh, btw my M/S started the day before my 6 week mark....so good luck to those 5 weekers who haven't got sick yet...Hopefully it stays that way!!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Before I got pregnant, my friend had told me that her M/S felt like she was hung over all day. Starting at exactly 6 weeks, that's how I started to feel! No vomiting, thank God. The only times I feel good are when I'm eating and sleeping. And I don't sleep all the way through the night because I wake up hungry and nauseous. I'm definitely going to try the Flintstones vitamins. I have a feeling it's the iron in the prenatals, because I'm having aversions to high iron foods like meat and raisins.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 10 weeks today. I have had "all day sickness" for 3 weeks. I have not thrown up, and don't want to. That will just mean that I have to eat and drink that much more. I normally eat healthy well rounded meals, but lately all I am drawn towards are comfort foods like french fries and baked potatoes. I just want to eat normal! I have never had this kind of struggle with food. I have always been in control of my body, but this pregnancy has just showed me I am not as much in control as I think. My doctor prescribed Zofran, and it has given me some relief, but I am not 100 % yet. Does anyone else take Zofran?

I down a glass of water at night before sleep and then keep a full glass of water on the bedside table for when I wake up in the middle of the night. I haven't woken up with nausea since. Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Some women handle hormones better than others. If you're unlucky, that means you'll have morning sickness. I took a prenatal for 4 months before getting pregnant and every day of my pregnancy so far. I'm 13 weeks pregnant and have not had any morning sickness. I never have any PMS when I'm on my period either, so I assume that my body is just very efficient at handling hormones.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 11 weeks and I have had torturous morning sickness. My appetite is forever changing. I vomit at least three times a day on a bad day. Some days I don't at all and I'm extremely ravenous. I am just at my whits end. I have found out that I can't eat saltines, pretzels, or ginger ale. The only thing that has seemed to help once I'm just nauseous and not completely upset in my stomach is any sort of mint. I don't know what it is, but it seems to help. Has any one else here had symptoms to the extreme or am I just the only one?

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I have 3 boys, and wasn't sick at all with the first 2 but the third knocked me off my feet, so much so that I had to leave my job. My dr. gave me a prescription but all I got out of that was a fever. When my DS was born, he was early, only by 5 weeks, yet he had to have a blood transfusion the day he was born and had to stay in the hospital for 18 days. His blood had apparently intermingled with mine and my body sent out an attack to get rid of the different blood type. Thus he hd to get a platelet transfusion. Luckily he survived the whole pregnancy. Now I'm TTC, but being watched by my Dr. as theres potential it will happen again. He told me to take a normal suppliment designed for women with extra Folic Acid. What eventually helped me through my #3 DS pregnancy was a teaspoon of red wine vinegar. Not the most pleasant of tastes but it worked.

Well it's been a week since the m/s has started and it's KILLING ME! I haven't been able to eat or drink much of anything all week. Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm not an expert, but do prenatal vitamins contain the same vitamins as a multi-vitamin? I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been feeling pretty good so far, and I took the Whole Foods 365-brand daily vitamin pack (with 4 separate pills in each vitamin packet) consistently every day for over a year prior to conception.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 6 weeks and I just started feeling sick all day. I am drawn mainly to dry foods (toast, crackers, etc). and some odd things like eggs. It's pretty frustrating, I majored in Nutrition in University and I want to eat well- lots of fruits and veggies but I just don't have the stomach for it. As for multivitamins vs prenatal vitamins- they are the same nutrients in both but in different amounts. Prenatal vitamins have more folic acid (prevents neutral tube defects) more iron and more calcium. I did hear that you should take your prenatal vitamin with a meal or snack because it can make your stomach upset. My question is- does anyone have any energy for exercise? I really want to go for walks but, I just can't muster the energy.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 8 weeks pregnant and have been sick for 2 weeks...all day every day. I have had 2 days where I have not thrown up but it is hard to do all of this and work when feeling like crap all the time. I took prenantals 6 months prior to getting pregnant and still take them. The first 2 hours of the day are my best and it goes downhill from there. I am trying zofran today and hoping it works. Phenergan makes me too tired and I can't work. I was also told unisom, B6 and ginger root at night before bed helps but I will try that tonight. I hope this ends at the end of the first trimester as it is miserable.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I had all day sickness for 7 months my first pregancy. I found out about Zofran during my 3rd month. One dose worked in 5 minutes and kept the sickness away all day. I only wish my Dr had told me about it sooner. I'm sure some people would rather not take anything while pregnant but it was unbearable. I am only 10 weeks pregnant now and have my first Drs appt this week. So far I have been using the sea band wristbands and ginger gum. It does help somewhat but not like the Zofran will once I get a prescription.

Just think of it as the baby giving you a detox. If its REALLY bad(like you feel like you have a hangover even though you haven't had anything to drink since you found out) try nibbling soda or saltine crackers or sucking on a lemon. It sucks and so far mine hasn't passed. Try also taking your vitamins at night with dinner.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 7 weeks, and sick all day. My husband, being the amazing help that he is... read that "while morning/allday sickness sucks, it means the placenta is developing at a very good and healthy rate. While means its taking the extra nutrients from your food for the baby-- so just sit tight, eat little, but as often as possible, and eventually it should subside after 12 weeks. " (after he told this to me, i scowled, and went back to heaving)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I've taken a multiviatamin my whole life and started prenatals 6 months ago. i am nauseated but havent thrown up. I actually take mine at night b/c when I started taking them, they made me sick to my stomach. As for m/s, I was told that if you have it, it means that everything is going good and the baby is taking from you as well as the fact that the progesterone level is high. I've never been happier to feel quesey all day and tired...

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am sick throughout the whole day, no throwing up, but pretty much bed ridden from the queasiness to the headaches and the muscle soreness. I am completely miserable. I get a lot of sleep and drink lots of water and keep up on my eating and it seems to help... not the eating, that usually gets me really sick. =(

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am at the 7-8 week point with my third child. My other 2 had no sickness, but this one I have been feeling sick for 5 weeks now. No vomiting, just sick feeling. My vitamins don't make a difference. I have not seen a difference between prenatals and flintstones. Everyone tells me that it will get better in another month. I hope so.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm 7-8 weeks now and pregnant with my 1st. I'm queasy all day long but haven't actually been sick yet. I've been reading up on different methods to relieve morning sickness and have found that Sea Bands work really well. They're wrist bands that you wear and they have a little plastic disc on them that press on the pressure point that relieves nausea. The brand also has anti-nausea ginger gum. I've been feeling a lot better now. Just make sure if you get the bands that you follow the instructions for where the pressure point is.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

If you look at it from a Eastern point of view, nausea is a way for your body to release toxins. Your body is changing and is trying to desperately get rid of toxins as fast as possible. There are safe natural ways to release toxins. I personally we be starting a clay detox. If you want to try it, definately talk to a professional first. And make sure they tell you the correct amounts because the dosage on the bottle my be too much.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 7 weeks and started to feel really nauseaous at week 6. I haven't gotten sick, but feel queasy all day. Instead of having crackers first thing in the morning, i decided to try something with a little more to it (with protein). I made myself a PB&J sandwich, placed it in a baggie and put it next to my bed. When my alarm went off i would reach over and take a couple bites of my sandwich. I have to say, it has made a tremendous difference!! I was home sick from work one day and the last two days i have been up and ready and even early to work! I have felt great! I wanted to share this "trick" with all of you, incase it is something that is really working and not just a change in my body being done with the queasy feelings. If you try this, let me know if it works!!

I'm 8 wks along and this is my 1st pregnancy, well i had an ectopic last yr this time, but I am constantly feeling ill! The last 2 wks have been horrible I have called off work several times because I'm nauseated and dizzy. II don't know if there is any connection between the prenatals and morning sickness. But I was having terrible morning sickness and it was actually happening in the morning time so I switched my vitamins to right before bed. I am still getting the nausea but not the violent throwing up so hopefully it will stay that way :)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I was severly sick with my first daughter, spent most of pregnancy in hospital and when I was home I had pic lines in each arm for medication and hydration. I could not hold anything down. My doc had my try eating turkey and drinking lemonade, not the powder kind but either real lemons or the concentrated kind. It really helped me to get something in my system and I was able to enjoy a little bit of life with no nausea......Hope this helps

i'm nauseated all the time, I take my prenatals, but, find it's more common after I eat or drink anything. Or when i've been standing for a while. Believe it may have a lot to do with I don't drink enough liquids. this is just my belief

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I will consider myself lucky? I guess. I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant and I do not have morning sickness. The only time I get nauseated is when my stomach is empty or I've eatin too much. Some smells make me want to gag but my doc said lemon could really help as well as ginger and taking prenatals before bedtime if I start to get sick. Keeping my fingers crossed and good luck to you ladies.

I'm almost at 9 weeks and my second pregnancy. M/S is the wprst part of the pregnancy for me. I just pray the end is near and the second trimester is around the corner. And i must say, my two year old seems to be the most forgiving for my bare minimum efforts

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Hearing that so many other people are going through this is so helpful. Having the morning sickness is awful, and mine hits me all day. I am 9 weeks along and have had the morning sickness for about a week now and it seems to be getting worse. Just started throwing up a couple days ago on top of the all day nausea. I am also hypoglycemic so my body burns through food like crazy. It seems like I am hungry all the time but I am having a hard time finding foods I can keep down. Right now only fast food is working and I am not a lover of fast food! But if that's what baby wants it's what baby gets! I hope this goes away soon for all of us!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 5 weeks pregnant. My doctor gave me prenatal pills and Flintstones. She said to ttry both first. If I don't react to the prenatal pills, I should continue with them. I tried the prenatals first for three days in a row. I noticed that I was very queasy from them. So, I decided to switch over to the Flintstones. I actually feel A LOT better with the Flintstones.

I am almost 7 weeks, and I am always sick! It comes and goes throughout the day, but it still lasts all day, mostly just nausea but vomiting some too, the vitamins definately make it worse for me! If I don't take them in the middle of a meal, I am sure to get sick within the hour, sometimes it doesn't matter if I have eaten, I still get sick! Its all worth it, I just hope it doesnt last the entire pregnancy.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 7 weeks, 1 day today and have been nausea's since 5 weeks. Its horrible! I wake up feeling gross and then throw up...and dont feel any relief. All day i feel sick to my stomach. I was 122 lbs before I got pregnant and today I weigh 113. It makes me nervous..I know this isnt healthy fro my baby...I have tried Ginger capsules, B6, sea bands, unisom ,(sp??) and nothing takes this feeling away completely. I also have lost of extra spit...and that makes the feeling SOO much worse! A couple things that make me feel better for the moment are :Applesauce, fresh fruit and fruity popsicle. they make me feel so good while I am eating them! "Philly Swirl" makes some really yummy ones! I know this baby is worth it...I just wish I could feel better so i could feel happier.

I am approximately 5 weeks and (knock on wood) all that I have experienced is a feeling of "acidy stomach" when I get hungry. Once I eat it subsides. If it stays like that, I could definitely handle it. My mother and sister never experienced any M/S so I am either going to be the same as them or have enough of it to cover all 3 of us haha.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

High levels of the hGC hormone are the leading cause of morning sickness however if you are taking certain prenatal vitamins they will definetly add to the sick feeling I learned the hard way, one doc was so gun ho on these certain prenatals and i was not feeling well, when I finally talked to a doctor the works in OB they found me a much better one.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

to all the moms to be suffering through your pregnancy listen up!!! I am at week 7 and have been sooo sock ive had to take time off of work..I am a nurse and asked a doctor friend of mine what o do?? He gave m a prescription for something called Zofran. Its an antiemetic that stops nausea in its tracks!!! speak up to your physicians and get yourself the Zofran. Youll be able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy I promise!!!

jventimiglia |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Praise modern science for Zofran! I can finally get up and function. Before, I was so sick I couldn't keep food down.

lrhampton |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I've been told I have hyperemesis also. I was sick all day long until the Dr gave me Zofran. It helps most of the time. Every once in a while I still throw that up too though. I also had to take a visit to the ER for dehydration. That Dr gave me phenergan. I've always been sick more at night even on the Zofran, so now I take Zofran during the day & phenergan at night. The Zofran lets me go to work & actually stay awake during the day & the phenergan lets me keep food down at night & then go straight to sleep. I'm sick so often I really have no idea if the prenatals have an affect on me or not. I'm 9 weeks & have been sick since 5 1/2 so I'm REALLY hoping it doesn't last the whole time. This is my first pregnancy so I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm soooo tired of being sick!!

kimi419 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I completely disagree that prenatals prevent morning sickness. With my first, I had very little morning sickness for only a few weeks and as long as I at regularly I was fine. With my second, for months I gave up on breakfast because it didn't stay down. I think it's just how your body reacts to the pregnancy. I'm 6 weeks with #3 and so far just queasy. We'll see how it goes.

meeshybee |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

for those moms who may not be able to afford the Zofran because it is rediculously expensive there are a few other things to try...anything sour helps me sour patch kids, and/ or mints but if you want real relief and you cant get zofran there is reglan and compazine too all of which are pregnancy safe!! There is nooo reason to suffer through these 9 months!!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I've heard that Vit B6 canhelp with nausea. And so far me it mostly does. Though it certainly doesn't eliminate it. This is my third pregnancy and with my first two kids I had no morning sickness at all!

Lori-annClark |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I've heard what causes the morning sickness is the huge change with your hormones. It could also be your prenatal vitamins contributing to it. Try taking your prenatals right before bed. Call your dr for the nausea. They put me on Zofran when I was 8 weeks and I call that my miracle pill. The nausea was completely gone!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

"Morning sickness" really sucks. It's completely random for me. There are days when I don't get nauseous at all, some days where it's just once or twice (sometimes I throw up) and I've one or two days where I wasn't nauseous once or twice in the day. I just hate it cuz nothing works and I get nauseous for different reasons. I didn't eat enough, I ate too much, I ate too slow, I ate too fast. I got in the bus, I got in the train, I got in a car, I started walking. I turned on the light, I turned off the light. All random things that contribute to my nausea. :-(

livingj156 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Not sure what causes it, but I'm 10 weeks pregnant and I find that eating a little something, be it a cracker or a small meal, it helps stop m/s or avoid it all together. Before I figured that out, I was constantly sick.

~LittleOne~ |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm 6 weeks today and I've been queasy since week 5. I find that it really comes on strong when I'm hungry and subsides when I eat. I was told to take my prenatal vit. with food and that has seemed to help. My friends and I have questioned weather or not being on birth control before you are pregnant makes a difference with m/s. We have 1 friend who never took birth control and she has had m/s really bad. The rest of us have been on birth control for years and stoped to get pregnant and we have mild morning sickness, if any! I was just curious what some opinions on here would be about this. Maybe the birth control gets you used to the hormone changes in pregnancy?! Any opinions?

AmandaHartDK |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

It's because you're hcg levels are high and you're hormones are all out of whack. Your body isn't used to this and it's reacted with nausea, which really sucks. Most women feel better in the 2nd trimester because the hcg levels go back down. I started taking my prenatal at night and that helped a lot. I also take vitamin B6 in the morning which is proven to decrease nausea. I also have ginger snaps on hand because ginger reduces nausea but it's hard to eat it raw. Hope this helps!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Oh goodness, it's been HELL with the morning/afternoon/evening sickness to say the least. My AMAZING husband took me to West Marine (boating store) and bought me SEASICKNESS bands... although they are a bit tight to wear they have realllllllly done the trick! They are safe to use and have my days (and nights) much more bearable! They were quite inexpensive even though they aren't quite fashionable. At this point, fashion's out the door for me if I can feel good and get out of bed! Good luck!

I am 6 weeks pregnant and I have been nauseated for about the last three weeks. I started talking prenatals at 3 weeks. I haven't thrown up, I just felt like it. But today was the first day that I've actually felt sort of sane and level headed. The thing that I did different last night was ate some broccli. Now, I'm gonig to test it out. Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I was sooooo sick with my first, nothing helped. I finally was prescribed zofran and it did the trick!! I'm at 10 weeks now and am nauseated again.. seemed to help to keep my stomach from being empty at all times and eat lots of lemon drops... worked for a while, then that didn't work and i couldn't even keep a pretzel down... that lasted two days.. pretty much no food or drink, and now i'm on day 3 of feeling pretty good... and just general queasiness. Hope this lasts... or Im heading to the drs for another zofran script! My best advice.. LISTEN TO YOUR CRAVINGS! usually if you eat what you're craving you'll be able to keep it down, though i know when I'm reallllllly nauseated nothing sounds good. But I have to keep eating anyway... otherwise I just heave up bile.. and that's real nasty! :S

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I did read that the skyrocketing hormones in the first trimester are what many doctors believe to be the cause of morning sickness. And my doctor told me that pre-natals could possibly help, especially the B-Vitamins. However, I was taking my pre-natals for about two months before I got pregnant and right when I hit 6 weeks the m/s hit, both nausea and vomiting. And in my case, my pre-natals actually made the m/s WORSE because they were upsetting my stomach. I have alwasy had difficulty taking vitamins due to the vomiting they would cause me, but coupled with the symptoms of m/s, it was unbearable. I would lay awake all night and my insides would throb! I spoke to my doctor and she actually told me the most important time to take the pre-natals is before conception and during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy, which I did. She said I could stop the pre-natals for now, now that I'm 15 weeks along.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

How to cope!? I always dreaded that I'd eat like a cow when pregnant! This is my first and I'm almost 7 weeks. The nausea just hit a few days ago, and it starts the moment I wake up, and is constant! I know I have to eat, because it helps, but I have food aversions to EVERYTHINGGG!! Nothing sounds good, so I have to force myself to eat! And then less than an hour after I eat, I'm hungry again (but get sick at the thought of food), which triggers the nausea! I cant win!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

My doc pulled me off prenatal with my first pregnancy at 11 weeks and the nausea stopped the next day. I went into today (2nd pregnancy at 6 weeks) and he told me not to even start the prenatals saying the benefits of prenatals are suspect and they aren't worth the nausea in my case. Before everyone hops on me for my lack of glowing endorsement over prenatals, I am not suggesting people stop taking them, I am suggesting they discuss with their doctor the pros and cons depending on the extent of their nausea.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I never had morning sickness with my son.. Now I'm two months along with my second. I am sick the every second I wake up. I spend all morning fighting it just to give in. Normally when I do something gross like clean my two year old's potty training chair. I dont know what makes me so sick this time but I hope it goes away soon! I think though eating some crackers when you first wake up helps. I try to keep a water bottle and some salt crackers by my bed. That seems to ease things with me. Oh, and about prenatal pills.. They did make me sick with my first. My docter also stoped them for me. But she told me to start taking two flintstones complete. It seemed silly but the more I started telling other mommy friends the more I realized how common it was.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Sounds like I was one of the few that had it really bad with my daughter. I was sick every day all day for most of my pregnancy. It actually got so bad that my doctor had to prescribe me anti-nausea medicine. I ended up losing weight during my first trimester and didn't gain weight very fast during the second trimester either. My body caught up though between months 7 and 8. That was when my "morning sickness" let up. I felt like I grew a full term belly over night. For me, I ate because I had to and would pray that it would stay down. My body wasn't picky, anything would trigger it at any time, smells, movement even texture of food. It didn't matter, it would just depend on what mood my body was in at the time.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

My first child was unplanned and I had m/s for six months. (started at 5 weeks) Mine was so bad because I was living in a very stressfull situation. (out of it now) But all woman are different. Morning sickness is your bodies way of adjusting to a new change. Kinda like when some people travel they get sick from the altitude because thier body is adjusting to a new change in sea level. Try to eat a snack right b4 bed. (never go to bed hungy) When you wake up eat a small breakfast intead. And take your pill(s) with a glass of orange juice. The Orange juice has folic acid in it and some doctors believe taking folic acid helps keep a calm tummy. Yes the vitamins have folic acid in them too but it is one of the most needed vitamin in pregnant and breast feeding mothers.

I'm in my 6th week and puking just about everyday. A co-worker suggested going to a pharmacy and picking up a package of Sea Bands. They are used for nausea with traveling or morning sickness. You wear both on your wrists and place the plastic knob right between the two tendons in your wrist. There is a pressure point that helps subside nausea. I have been wearing them for two days now and I have finally been able to eat a full meal without it coming back up. It's definitely worth a try!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

i began taking my prenatals while TTC and they made me feel awful and sick. same for my multivitamins i was taking before. i stopped taking the prenatals maybe 3 weeks before i started feeling symptoms of pregnancy and when i tested, i was pregnant. so the day i got the positive i picked back up on the prenatals and i've only noticed sickness when i dont eat before or after taking them. other than that, i dont have any morning sickness anymore but then again, im just 6 weeks and 4 days...the best could be yet to come. lol.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I had hyperemesis for my last and I have m/s this time my Dr told me it was because of the high level of pregnancy hormones.

sickles06 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I was sick constantly for a week before I found out that I was pregnant and for 2 weeks after. My doctor put me on Zofran because I couldn't keep anything down and was getting dehydrated.....and let me just say it is a miracle drug. It took the edge of the nausea within 10 minutes, and took it 90% away within 30 minutes. I still have slight nausea, but at least I can eat more than crackers now!

whitney9207 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

While you may feel terrible, in most cases morning sickness is an indication that the baby is doing well. The influx of hormones causes you to have morning sickness. I am 7 weeks prego with my third and have morning sickness morning and night. I read that apple cider vinegar helps. Well I did try that and it was ok. I did mix ginger powder with apple juice and some cinnamon and this helped with the nausea. Gingerale does not work unless it has real ginger. Also vitamin b can help with nausea, but check with your ob first, Makse sure you have crackers by your bedside for the morning and in the middle of the night and include a protein snack before bed. One other major thing is eat every 3 hours at least!!! This is a biggie, I know being nauseous you don't want to eat, but an empty stomach makes it worse. Good Luck

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 8 weeks with my first and had been taking prenatals 14 months prior to conception due to TTC. I have been Nauseated every day on and off all day since about 5 weeks. I feel better right after I eat and the nausea comes back when I need to eat next. Weird.

woollypetals |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I think that it's not just about taking prenatal vitamins, but about taking good ones. I took basic prenatal vitamins for a year while TTC, and after getting pregnant, the nausea was *intense*. I switched to a food based vitamin, and I swear that I feel 70% better! The downside is: I have to take 6 vitamins a day (I take 2 with breakfast, 2 with lunch, and 2 with dinner) and they are un-coated, which means that they taste nasty. To me, that's a small price to pay in the end. In other words, unless you're doctor has put you on a prescription prenatal, perhaps changing to a better vitamin will help your tummy!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm only 9 weeks but I've had a little bit of nausea but definitely no throwing up. I took some vitamins but not regularly before pregnancy and didn't start taking my prenateal vitamins until my 6th week. (I wasn't trying to get pregnant so actually didn't realize I was preganant until than!) I must say... In general, I only feel tired. I hope that it doesn't get any worse than this! :-)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

idk why it happens but I have been nauseous for the whole 9 weeks and it's terrible. The only thing I can keep down is cheez its wih Ginger Ale...try drinking that it works...MAKE SURE IT"S NAME BRAND it's made with real ginger so knock offs wont work

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

my first pregnancy i was super sick the whole time. i found out i was allergic to protein, which sucks. i threw up my whole pregnancy..morning, noon, and night. sometimes while sleeping. with my second i was never sick. not once. i didnt know i was preggo till the 9th week. thanks to my mom asking for some of my pads. lol. i took prenatals the whole time both pregnancies. so i can't say its the pills. my period is late now. hoping its my third pregnancy, fingers crossed. but i dont think the vitamins help or hurt.

Vinatrue |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Well I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and I throw up 3-9 times a day. My doctor has me on a bunch of meds that work sometimes and don't work most times. I even had to go to the hospital to have IV fluids because I was so dehydrated from throwing up. If this was a planned pregnancy then I definitely would have started the vitamins ahead of time to avoid any amount of this!

im 11 weeks today and have been since since week 5.as soon as it feels like its going to be over,it starts right back up again.I have tried basically everything.phenergan makes me too sleepy so thats out cause i have 2 kids to take care of.gingerale makes me more sick.and im tired of saltines.i have even tried emetrol.it doesnt help me at all.white rice seems to be the only thing i can eat without getting sick.i have heard people swearing by sea-bands.i think im going to go get some to see if that helps.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

All I can say is, at 7 weeks, I'm nauseus allllll the time and I throw up in the mornings if I don't eat right away. I'm super tired, like I haven't slept in days, despite the fact that I sleep whenever I get the chance and at least 9 hours a night. As for the morning sickness, I find decaf tea with sliced fresh ginger and some whole wheat bread or pita to help a lot, and I changed my prenatal to night night which has made a big difference. Good luck everyone, I wish us all to feel better!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 11 weeks today and have had a rough few days. My hope is that this morning sickness is wrapping up. I started feeling symptoms at week 6... but the vomiting has been awful the past few days. Just this morning, opening the refrigerator sent me running to the bathroom. I've tried almost everything and nothing seems to work. It's starting to get me very depressed- like there is no end in sight. To make myself feel better, I look at our sonogram picture or refold baby clothes my mom bought us... Silly I know, but I need something to get me through.

ok ladies who are saying it doesnt work if you take prenatal vitamins it didnt say prenatals it says vitamins. that means like a daily vitamin. fish oil, omega 3, vitamin D. stuff like that.

nicolezach2011 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

So, I just read each and every post on here and my conclusion is that each pregnancy is different and there is no miracle cure. I am 10 weeks along and have had m/s since week 5 with occasional vomitting but 24/7 nausea. I've missed a lot of work and have no energy at all. I've been taking prenatals 3 months before TTC and have always taken a multivitamin so I don't think that made a difference although I swear that just looking at the bottle makes my stomach turn! I started taking my vitamins at night which allows me to wake up feeling normal and that lasts for about 2 hours until I start progressively feeling worse and worse. I've tried a lot of things and some days they work and some days they don't. I am going to give the Flinstones vitamins a try as well as the sea bands and I'll let you know if there's a difference. Hopefully the end of the sickness is near!! My sympathies to each woman on this blog who is going through this but remember it's all for a very very good thing!! They tell me you forget it all once the baby is born....it's hard to imagine that right now but I'm holding onto that thought!! Good luck ladies and hand in there!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I agree with the previous mom to be...every preg is different and you never know what you're gonna get. My mother says that girls make you more nauseous and boys don't. Maybe true, maybe not! I am 4 weeks along and have had a mild nausea feeling, but more due to anxiety, because this is my 2nd baby and I'm more excited this time, now that I have been through it once before. Last time, I never did throw up but I felt nauseous a lot, and it disappeared around month 3. This time, when I feel nauseous, I have to eat small snacks and eat healthy and not always give in to my cravings for something fatty or sweet. Eat light and small meals and you won't feel as full and sick - that worked for me. Also, get enough to drink! Sip water or juice. You and your baby need to stay hydrated. If you need to take sick time from work, go ahead and do it, your 1st trimester is the most exhausting b/c your baby is growing exponentially every day. Gd luck!!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I agree with the previous 2 moms to be... I will be 34yrs on June 7th and I am pregnant with my second child. My first child is a boy and he is 12 yrs old. I found out on May 15th that I was about 4-5wks thru a blood test. I have my OB appt. soon. Can't wait. But I have been having all day sickness for the last 3 days and just the thought of taking my prenatal vitamins makes it worst. With my son I was only sick a little bit at the same time everyday. This time it's all day. I may have to take the Flinstone vitamins sooner than I thought. But overall I am excited and will bear with it.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm a first time mom, 6 weeks along with my first child at 40. I alternate every two hours between nausea and dizziness with a dull head ache to extreme hunger. I have been taking Folic Acid, a multi-vitamin, Omega 3 (fish oil) and calcium. The last couple of days I've felt so crappy though that I just cut back to the folic acid (the fish oil makes me feel especially ill). Today I finally decided to make myself a cup of camomile tea and it actually helped.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I have no idea what is going on. I am around 10 weeks and this is my third and I am nauseous from the moment I open my eyes to the moment I close them. I even have to keep some sort of food by the bed because if I wake up during the night more than to go to the bathroom then i have to eat something before it really kicks in. It's bad... Never had it like this before..

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am a little over 12 weeks and this is my first baby. I thought earlier, I was in the clear with m/s because I didn't really experience any until about 3 weeks ago. Since then, I seem to have had occasional episodes, and it actually seems to have increased to about once a day over the past week. I don't know if this is normal, particularly since I'm nearing the end of my first trimester. Anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am seven weeks and i vary from nauseous and sick to being ok. My last pregnancy (my son is now 6 yrs old) was just as bad. One thing I have found, through research and self-testing on the subject, is that ginger helps a lot. I was so sick last night when we went to eat Japanese food and the ginger salad dressing and ginger sauce for the food almost instantly calmed my stomach. During the day at work, I sip ginger ale and snack on rice cakes and unsalted pretezels. Another thing I do to help is to eat a protein full dinner and take my prenatal right after. While I may feel queasy, at least I am holding the food down (well most of the time anyway)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Im almost 10 weeks now and my doc told me I do have hyperemesis. It's a crapton worse b/c Im type 1 diabetic and Im epileptic. I take seizure pills at night and those days where the m/s lasts allll day it's soo hard to take my pills and I worry if I can keep them down. My sugars are crashing down into the 30s and 40s b/c I can't keep food or liquid down. I've already been in the hospital for 5 days b/c of the hyperemesis and dehydration and DKA. This morning sickness is absolutely brutal. The hospital gave me Protonix for the acid and nausea...doesn't touch me. Same goes for the other nausea meds they tried giving me--they only made me worse. I hope it only lasts through the first trimester. I don't know what I'd do if this lasts throughout the pregnancy. =/

I suffered from Hyperemesis with my first pregnancy, it was AWFUL! I was hospitalized for what seemed like months cause I was constantly dehydrated. I'm now 9 weeks pregnant with second and having slight morning sickness but nothing in comparison! The only thing I found that works for me is taking either Zofran or Phenergan with Benadryl. Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm 6 weeks along and have started feeling really queasy. I took prenatals for over a year while TTC and still take them each day. The worst part is everyone says that eating helps with the M/S, but the thought of food makes my stomach turn even worse. It takes a lot for me to even eat a cracker without gagging. I'm worried I'm not getting enough nutrients for myself let alone my growing baby, but I just can't seem to get anything down. Plus I have been so so so tired. I don't know how I'm going to manage work if this keeps up the entire first trimester! Yikes!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 9 1/2 weeks and have had severe "morning" sickness for almost 4 weeks now. I am constantly throwing up anything I eat. The doctor prescribed phenergan, but I throw that up too. I know I am not getting enough fluids, but could my sickness be partly to blame on motion sickness. I am usually fine once I lay down for awhile but I work full time and that is very hard to do. Usually my symptoms start when I get up and last throughout the day. Once I go to bed, I am usually fine.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I was on prenatals 1 year before conceiving. I'm now 7wks 4days. My morning sickness (all-day sickness) was horrific from week 5-7, but is starting to ease up. I was having to sleep in the bathroom because I felt like I would puke any second, but I only threw up twice during those two weeks. I still have waves of nausea throughout the day, but they are not as awful as before. I have found that Sea-Bands and sour candies (sour jolly ranchers) work very well for me. I tried the crackers, ginger-ale, etc, but those things did not work for me. I still have no appetite despite the lessening nausea, but eating definitely makes me feel better. I worry that because I feel better so early in this pregnancy that something might be wrong. I don't have an appointment until July 23rd. I had an u/s at 6wk3d and saw the heartbeat! So I guess I just need to try not to worry. Has anyone else had these concerns?

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

It's extremely different for every woman. I started taking prenatal vitamins about 2-3 months prior to conception (as was advised by my fertility doctors), and now I'm nine weeks pregnant and have the worst all-day-long sickness! I throw up practically every day since I found out I was pregnant (which was at 6 weeks). In fact, it's so bad I cant come near the kitchen, laundrey, flowers, car smells, food smells, etc.. it's really weird but they say in pregnancy everything is "normal." I do get days when I'll go 2-5 days without throwing up a single time but that only happened about 1-2 times, the remaining time, I can barely down any food. It's frustrating especially since I want to eat healthy for the baby and nothing wants to stay down...I'm hoping this ends in a couple of weeks :)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I have heard and read that it is because of a lack of or too little of the hormone progesterone. In the 2nd trimester the body starts to make a lot more of the hormone so there is less M/S. I heard about the use of natural progesterone to help get rid of M/S so I looked it up online and found a site called Natpro. You can go on their site and see and make the call for yourself. I have been using it since we were TTC and now that I am pregnant I have yet to have any M/S.

I feel so much better after reading all these; I was beginning to think I was the only one suffering from constant MS. THe people around me who have had kids act like it's no big deal and that it only lasts 3 moths..Well, three months of feeling like you have the stomach flu is a really long time! I feel nauseous 24/7 and am exhausted beyond anything words can describe. I was once really social but now how have lost the desire to talk with anyone and have no ambition whatsoever. I've honestly never felt so horrible. I am excited about being pregnant but how can act super excited when I feel throwing up ALL THE TIME. THe only thing that helps take the edge off is if I eat a little healthy snack every hour. It's difficult to eat when you're not hungry, but it really does help. I took prenatals for almost a year before conception so I don't think that theory make any sense. Thanks for listening ladies..I know we can get through this!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

this is my third pregnancy--took prenatals from ttc all the way through the pregnancy, and had morning sickness with all so far. My first two i started at 8 weeks, this time it started at 5 1/2 weeks, really early. My first pregnancy was throughout the 9 months, and I had to become a vegitarian because meat was so repulsive to me! With my second one my m/s stopped at 20 weeks. Hopefully this one will stop sooner! It is a horrible feeling, having nausea non-stop, but I am finally catching on that if I eat every 1 hr or so, it keeps it at bay. Stop eating foods that have added hormones in them. Try eating all organic. Our bodies have enough going on that we don't need all the modification that is being added to the foods we eat battling our own natural hormonal balance.

I've been extremely nauseated/vomiting since about mid-5th week. (And I was on prenatals for a good 5 months before I conceived.) Now in my 8th week, I've found little relief from anything other than an anti-nausea medication normally used to treat cancer patients. (Rest assured, I cleared its safeness with both my doctor and pharmacist before I took it!) If you can't keep anything down, it may be better to stave off the discomfort with medication rather than subject your baby to starvation. Also, don't listen to well-meaning ladies who tell you that you must be doing X, Y, or Z wrong because you have morning sickness and they didn't. Most of the "remedies" recommended to me by my doctor, books, friends, and family didn't do anything but give me something to vomit back up.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I had morning sickness now at week 6 but the doctor's suggestions have helped me alleviate the nausea. For one, I got the "Sea Band" which uses accupressure on a point on each wrist. The band helps with morning sickness, motion sickness, and nausea. Also, the nurses at the office said the nausea starts with the stomach acid. You need to keep your stomach with a little something between meals. I munch on dry crackers. Also, eat foods and wait to drink a half hour later. It works!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

PROTEIN!!! right before you go to bed, eat something high in protein with a glass of milk and you will wake up feeling a million times better. This is my first pregnancy and I spent week 6 through 9 feeling like i had a hangover that never goes away. someone mentioned eating protein before bed and the first time I tried it, I woke up feeling better than I have for a long time! Give it a shot, right before you go to sleep though, not a few hours before. Works like a charm plus baby loves protein to grow big and strong!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

i remember reading somewhere that in addition to hormones, m/s has something to do with low blood sugar (makes sense since the body is providing nutrition for two people, making it easier for the blood sugar to get low). Makes even more sense to me because I have diabetics in the family and one symptom of low blood sugar can be nausea. suggestion-eat often, even if it's only a little bit. easier said than done when the very thought of food makes my stomach turn!!!

Yeah there's no way the vitamins. My doctor even said for me to try taking my vitamins through the nausea. no good. I haven't eaten sense friday night and I don't think it even sounds good. Has any one come up with something that helps at all?

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

My stomach is just a little bit "off" but nothing serious at all. I'm 4 weeks and actually wishing I'd feel worse so I can really feel and believe that I'm pregnant! (I am...based on the missed period and 3 + HPT!)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am a little over 6 weeks and I am constantly nauseated to the point I think i will vomit, but it doesn't happen. I was never sick with my first pregnancy, but that was 12 years ago. Nothing really helps. I have been taking prenatals for at least 6 months and I take them at night. It seems like I feel more sick at night, and am up multiple times through the night tossing and turning. Oh yeah, I just started feeling sick at 6 weeks and it seems like every day it gets worse.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I had aweful m/s with my first child, the doc gave me vitamin B6 and it went away. I then took iindviual vitamins including B6 with my second and never once had any sickness. Take B6 vitamins they help with m/s not prenatals.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I think I agree alil that it could have to do with the sex of the baby n your body. My first was a girl I was sicker then a dog for months. Then my second was a boy I was never sick with him. So maybe sex could have something to do with it. But I really think taking Vitamin B6 could help.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am about 7 weeks pregnant and let me tell you it has not been easy. I am nauseous 24/7. Just about everything that goes down comes back up within minutes. Between being nauseous and being exhausted i can barely get out of bed in the morning to get to work. Hopefully this wont last all nine months.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am having EXTREME NAUSA! Holy moly! I wish I could puke sometimes it feels like it would just feel better if I did! I'm nauseous when I eat, when I don't eat, when I sleep when I drive, when I sit, ALWAYS! I'm 6 weeks and with my 1st pregnancy I was a little pukey-feeling for like 2 weeks...I hope it's because the baby is a different sex this time around. We're only having 2 so this is it! Good luck ladies!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm sure it's hormones, a lot of research seems to support that. I feel that nauseus/hungry combination almost all the time except when I have just eaten, then I feel OK. But after about an hour, I feel ill again. It has been waking me up from sleep. I haven't vomited. But it's so uncomfortable...yogurt goes down well and makes me feel good for a while. I'm worried because I read somewhere it gets worse over the next month ( I am 6 weeks). I don't know if I can handle it getting worse. Anyone have words of wisdom?

FingerBling |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

All those excess hormones are metabolized by the liver, causing excessive amounts of bile, which makes you nauseous. The solution? Legumes! Apparently the soluble fiber in beans and lentils binds with the bile, and takes it out the back way. I am just a few weeks pregnant, and haven't had morning sickness, so I am not speaking from experience, but I still recommend it. Eat 1/4 cup of lentils or beans (I like chickpeas) a few times a day (especially in the morning). wait 20 minutes before eating any carbs or fats. Let us know if it works!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I would also have to disagree with the taking of vitamins prior to conception. I took them for about 6 months prior to conception and at my 11th week, I am still very naseous. My doctor actually gave me medicine that helps control it, so if you are feeling awful and can't function throughout the day, which was and sometimes still is the case for me, then ask your doctor about meds. Vitamin B6 in small doses also helps.

Hormones are to play but I have been taking PNV 1 year before we got pregnant and from 6 weeks on I am sick 24/7 with nausea and still going strong at 16.4 weeks. Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm 6 weeks along and was getting extremely queezy to the point I didn't want to do anything but sleep through it. My 1st appt isn't for another 2 weeks so I just called the Dr office and they put me through to a family care nurse who recommended taking vitamin B6 (50-75 mg) 1x/day WITH my normal prenatal vitamin. I could only find 100mg of B6 so I just take half a tablet a day. I started it a couple days ago and it has helped me a lot! I still have a couple moments of nausia if I don't snack every 2hrs or so, but there isn't that constant dull ache of feeling sick. Perhaps ask your doc if it's worth a try?

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

so, i am 7 weeks prego with my second, and I again have all day sickness, although this time i am throwing up several times a day unlike the last one. My first pregnancy the sickness lasted the first 6 months, and I am praying that it doesn't happen this time too especially since i have a 3 year old active boy. The dr gave me Zofran, but it really hasn't helped much...It doesn;t help eithr that I get migraines and can't take my normal medicine for those...as my dr says, my body just reacts violently to being pregnant. I just keep telling my self that this too shall pass....

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am about 12 weeks, and have been nauseated/throwing up since about 5-6 weeks. I can't even take my prenatal vitamins on a regular basis because I hardly eat, and then when I don't eat, I get even more sick. I can't win. Max, I've heard that taking B6 can help, so I might give that a try. ANYTHING to get the sick feeling to ease up...

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Its actually kind of your body's allergic reaction to all the extra hormones and changes your body is going through. Thats also why its usually not just in the morning.

Kaynr |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am constantly nauseated, with headaches and dizziness. I know that this is a result of the high levels of hormones in my body that are present during the first trimester (hcG). It might go away; it might not. But I only know this because I'm a nurse, not because of any other reason!!!! I hope that this has helped put a real reason to why...telling someone to take more vitamins while trying to conceive isn't that easy, albeit dehydration and falling blood sugars will certainly contribute to these symptoms as well. I had a friend also advise me to take Flinstones if I was having a hard time keeping anything down, but I haven't needed it. :) Hope this helps!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I firmly believe that we are constantly nauseated because we are pregnant. Being pregnant is the most wonderful thing in the world, but you must learn to take the good with the bad. I have four little girls and a 5th on the way(hopefully a boy), and I suffered m/s, nausea, and the nasty thing of constantly having to spit, with EVERY pregnancy. It lasted for about 5 weeks. It started at My 6th week and didnt stop until my 13th week. I truly dont believe there is any cure. Just go with it try whatever method you can and remember what the end result is going to be. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU MOTHERS TO BE!!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Best trick I've heard - keep a juice box next to your bed. Wake up a few minutes earlier and drink the whole box (I used Hi-C) and eat a few crackers, but keep laying down. After a few minutes of relaxing you're ready to start your day, minus the vomiting! This is the only thing that gets me up in the morning! Plus the sugar wakes my brain up a little:-)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Every pregnancy is different. With my first child, I never experienced any form of nausea, however with my 2nd child I was nauseous every day for the entire first 12wks. Prior to this pregnancy, I did begin taking the prenatal vitamins as my doctor advised for a couple TTC, yet I have been experiencing nausea daily. I read an article that stated if you try taking the vitamins at night it may eleviate some of the nausea but I have yet to find that to be the truth. I believe that these things are just individually based and you have to try different things until you find what's best for you. This is a situation where one size clearly doesn't fit all! Giner ale works best for me so far! LOL

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 7 weeks pregnant and am already feeling nauseous and have had some morning sickness too. I decided to talk with my friend that has a lot of knowledge about vitamins and she said that the vitamin we are missing is a vitamin B complex. She said at first it may make you throw up because your body is so deficient in the vitamin but after you build up the nauseousness will go away. I just started this today, so I'm not sure if it works or not. She also said the best vitamins are ones at vitamin stores because the chain stores skimp on the amount to cut costs. Another tip she gave me is to eat more protein. Like nuts and cheese right before bed and when I get up and that would help too. I have tried this and haven't thrown up since, so that's a plus to me! Hope this helps.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm right at the door of 6 weeks and I just started feeling nauseous. I drink ginger tea and it seems to help as well as eating protein. a piece of cheese tends to do the trick. I take vitamins but I think I'm going to switch to something easier on the stomach. I have to choke down two horse pills right now and if I don't have enough on my stomach it make the nausea worse.

Is it possible that I am almost 4 weeks and already have m/s. It is horrible, I am constantly tired, and just feel dizzy all day...is this normal? This is my first pregnancy, so this is quite a learning experience for me.

kelan22 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I read in my husband's book that the more nauseous you are the better it is for the baby (as strange as that sounds) I'm assuming it has something to do w/ getting rid of all the bacteria in your body to keep your baby healthy. I was nauseous from 4 weeks til about now (9) now it seems to be fading away. Sometimes taking your prenatals at a different time will help, like i take mine in the morning although most women take theirs at night to sleep through the nausea. Good luck!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

It has never been medically confirmed as to why morning sickness takes place but a Medical Doctor told me years ago that it's your body's way of getting rid of anything toxic in your belly that can harm the baby. I've always believed that so I never minded the nausea b/c I knew it was nature's way of keeping my baby in a cleaner environment!! Sooo, throw up all you want, ladies!!!

I am almost 8wks and I don't have any signs of what I like to call all day sickness. I attribute it to doing a fiber cleanse about 2-3 monthes before I got pregnant and healthy eating. It's all the hormonal changes I guess. I have crazy morning sickness. (I should call it day sickness cause I sick all day). I have had to literally run to the bathroom @ work twice in 1 day and sometimes I am in there 4 times a day. I have totally lost my appetite. Everything makes me gag, even brushing my teeth. Luckily my doc gave me a script for Pheregan for the nausea that I will get filled today. Hopefully that's help me cause I can't stand this right now. This is my 1st pregnancy and am going towards it being my last cause I am feeling so incredibly terrible. I have gingerale, ginger tea, peppermint gum, sea bands on my wrists. OMG! OMG! OMG! I started taking prenatals 6 months before I got pregnant and started getting morning sickness in week 6. I am now in the middle of week 14 and am still having m/s all day. I really hope I am not one of the unluckly ones who are sick the entire pregnancy. Luckly, I am able to drink fluids fine. I found that water upset my stomach most often so I switched to powerade/Gaterade, which my doctor like me to drink. My midwife also explained to me that when you're pregnant your blood sugar spikes and dips really easily. That's why several mini-meals are often suggested. Being aware of that has helped me. Another thing for those who get morning sickness in the actual morning: Try having some protein before you go to bed. I usually have a small glass of milk (sometimes with Ovaltine mix in it) right before bed and I feel significantly better in the morning.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

This will be very helpful: I have noticed from personal experience that the cause of nausea is: You need food in your system. Like clock work every two hours I feel like I'm going to pass out. Nausea and light headed. I keep ritz crackers around, sugar free puddings, small snacks like crackers and cheese. Fruits have a lot of water so they don't really help a lot. Even if the snack is not what I'm craving I force myself to have it and it makes me feels 100% better. The result, at 10 weeks almost 11 weeks, I have only gained 1 pound and for the first trimester I hear thats great, and I'm feeding my peanut and surviving the M/S. Hope all you gals enjoy and find this helpful. love to all the mommies <3

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I used to think morning sickness was a minor upset, that women who were pregnant were just whiners. Until I got pregnant. It wasn't so bad at first, but as the weeks progressed, I seriously thought sometimes that I might die. Truly, I worried that my blood sugar would drop so far that I would slip into a coma, and there was no one around to help if I did (my DH is in the army). It was so bad for about three weeks that I literally couldn't eat. I tried. But I would throw up as I was eating. I couldn't even keep water down. My midwife put me on a anti-nausea and that sort of helped, but only for awhile. It did let me finally sleep, however. I lost 20lbs in two weeks (which was really the only plus side of all this, as I'm overweight). But the baby is still fine. Apparently my kid ate well off me. I'm a little curious about the prenatal, though, because one of the first things my midwife did was take me off my prenatal because they can cause the nausea and induce the vomiting. I did get severely dehydrated during this time, though, so I really encourage anyone going through it to get their fluids, and if they can't, to contact their provider asap. Also, for the record, I have apologized to all the women I thought were whiners.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am 6wks and have not really experienced any m/s yet ((knock on wood)) although in my first pregnancy which m/c at 8weeks I was sick everyday all day. Now I usually get sick when my stomach is empty and need to grab a snack. Also I don't take my prenatal pills until after I've ate that seems to be working for me.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Interesting....I'm 4w2ds! I been getting serious indigestion and heartburn but no nauseous feeling. Hopefully it will stay that way...minus the indigestion :\

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I do not think it is the vitamins either. I started taking prenatal vitamins last June and I just got pregnant and I am nauseas all the time. I find that if I eat something (light snack, yogurt, fruit, granola) every two hours or so it helps to keep the nausea down. I also had to start eating as soon as I wake up. I used to wait til I got to work to eat but if my stomach empties I feel horrible. Hope this tip helps!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I have to say that reading all these posts makes me feel so much better! I'm 8-9 weeks now. I started feeling minor queasiness at between 4-5 weeks, but then I hit full-blown misery and was in bed for over a week, I'm only a smidge better now, but I am still nauseous all day every day with very sporadic vomiting. NOTHING has helped, and I've tried everything. And I've been on prescription prenatals for over 2 years while TTC, so this theory doesn't apply to me either. This is quite possibly the most horrible thing I've ever felt before (migraines don't even come close), but we asked God for a baby, so I'm trying to be thankful for the m/s! Stay positive ladies!

bellewithab |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm having a hard time with the M/S also...and I started taking prenatals a month or so before we started TTC. I will be 7 weeks tomorrow and the M/S is getting in the way of me doing my job! It's frustrating feeling so sick and there really isn't anything you can do about it. I am trying everything that people are suggesting. I just started taking the B-6 and drinking lemonade today. I may have figured out part of my problem...Garlic! I realized today that the days that I have felt the worse are when I have had something full of garlic the night before, so we will see tomorrow if I feel better. I will report back to you.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I took prenatal vitamins for 2 months before getting pregnant. I am in the middle of my 8th week (first pregnancy) and my m/s started at week 7. Mostly just queasy in the morning. I have only thrown up twice. As others said, if I keeping eating small meals and snacks all day, which is not a problem, I seem to be fine. Sleeping a lot! I also started taking my vitamins in the evening with supper and I think that helps. Other things that help - saltines by the bed, ginger beer, lots of water in between eating and salt followed by sugar (ie. potato chips and skittles :o)) Oh and bananas are also helpful, I think they have B6 in em... hope this helps!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm 5 weeks into my first pregnancy, and morning sickness has been a struggle. I have realized that a lot of it is mindset and attitude. Positive thinking goes a long way. And on top of that, being open to natural remedies really helps. Everyone is different but for me I know ginger tea before bed really helps and so do milkshakes. I also keep ginger snap cookies to nibble on. Following your cravings is always a good idea. Also make sure to stay active because a walk or a trip to the mall can serve as a great distraction. I hope these tips help! :)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Ok, so I am 7 weeks and last week MS was really bad. I read a comment way down on here that mentioned one person put a Pb&j by their bed and ate it in the am before getting up...rather than dry cereal, and the protein helped keep the nausea at bay. I tried it yesterday and today, and so far it has been a huge relief. I mean its a disgusting breakfast, but whatever works at this point. I also started taking my prenatal at night before bed instead of in the am, and so far this is helping tons.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Prenatal vits cause nausea. The idea is to take them prior to pregnancy to get your body used to them. It's not to alieviate m/s if you take them prior to conception. They are very irritating to some people, so it can be helpful to take them before your body is experiencing m/s.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Unfortunately, I am the exception to that rule about taking multivitamins. I started taking them 3 - 4 months before I got pregnant. I am now 36 weeks and I have thrown up every day of my pregnancy (including this morning). 99% of the time I get sick in the morning but I often get sick mid day and sometimes I roll over during the night and get sick! I'm so glad I'm near the end! I am ready to have my babies in my arms and out of my belly!

I am week 6 and m/s hit at the beginning of the week and has been sucky. I normally eat healthy, only buying organic and such, but it seems like the only thing that helps my nausea is greasy hamburgers, fries, etc. I hope it ends soon, yuck.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I have heard that morning sickness is your body's way of getting rid of things that may be harmful for your baby. I have also heard that eating a few saltines before you get out of bed in the morning can help with morning sickness. I'm sort of hoping that it's genetic because all of the women in my family have never had any morning sickness!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I read an interview with Jewel about her doc telling her that its related to liver health and minor diet changes did the trick. I can't find any other info related to the liver improvement- anyone ever told this? I am sick of feeling sick to my stomach 24/7 and cannot imagine it lasting for another month or more.... Its especially frustrating because for whatever reason healthy options seem to turn my stomach even more... shouldn't my body naturally crave nutritious things instead of being repulsed by them? I ate healthy pre-pregnancy and normally love veggies....

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

It's my understanding that having morning sickness is considered to be a good thing...associated with a better outcome of successful pregnancy. My docs explained it that it is your body's reaction to the high level of hormones that are needed to support your pregnancy. I'm only at 4w5d and no sign of morning sickness yet. I know the poor ladies that suffer with horrible morning sickness will think I'm crazy, but I am hoping to feel some any day now :-)

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

After a couple of weeks of nausea (but no vomiting yet) I've found that I can help suppress any sickness by constantly nibbling on little snacks throughout the day. As long as I keep a little bit of something in my tummy, such as some crackers or mixed nuts or grapes, then my nausea is very minimal. If I get hungry, or if I eat too much at a meal, then my stomach hurts again. I've never been one to snack, always living off my three meals a day, but these much smaller amounts of food throughout the day definitely makes a difference. My mother never had morning sickness with either of her children, and I was doing well myself until my 7th week. I'm now at 9 weeks and starting to figure out how to keep from feeling so sick.

I am not so sure agree with the vitamin thing. I was taking vitamins about a year or so before got my positive and am thinking about 7 wks, no appt yet, and been bothered by it esp in the evening. Have been trying small amts of food and ginger ale, keeping crackers by bedside. It has been tolerable for the most part. Just a little annoying. Today has been on and off all day. Will see what happens. Hopefully will start to lessen soon.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

All I know is my last pregnancy was a cake-walk compared to this, especially because of the nausea. The only thing that's seemed to give it a rest is excessive eating, and I can't be doing that for the next seven months!

Kaosmunki |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

First off, prenatal vitamins are not important for morning sickness...the high folic acid content in them are extremely important in preventing deformities such as cleft lips and palats. You want to take vitamins with DHA for brain and eye development as well. But as far as helping with morning sickness, it can actually do the opposite! Some people don't react well to vitamins, especially on an empty stomach. Now, Vitamin B6 is a vitamin that will help with the sickness. The reason for the sickness is due to your hormones going out of whack and your blood glucose levels changing (usually bottom out) to cause the nausea...which is why they say to keep snacking on foods. I'm currently 11 weeks and have had horrible morning sickness...tried everything, including Zofran. Everyone can give you tips and suggestions that worked for them, but everyone is different and every pregnancy is different, so do what works for you is all I can say.

I had taken prenatal vitamins 6 months before we even concieved, and I'm in week 18 now, and still experiencing morning sickness.

LangstonN09 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I had horrible morning sickness or rather all day sickness with my first pregnancy and I am now pregnant again and it doesnt seem to be as bad. However, with my first pregnancy I was working at 5 in the morning and wasnt eating as soon as I woke up, I have now switched my work schedule and work in the evening so I am home all day to snack and eat when I start to feel hungry. That is the one thing that I have noticed is that I vomit when I let myself get too hungry, so now I just eat something small every 2 hours and I can really tell when that 2 hours has passed cause I try to eat and I get nauseous just from the thought of eating. Also I have learned that greasy, salty food (as unhealthy as it is) really helps with the nausea so my go to trick is Ruffles potato chips :) Helps alot but like the ladies before me said you just have to find what works for you!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm in my second trimester, 13w3d, and I started to get sick before I even tested for pregnancy at week 5. In fact, the sickness is what tipped my fiancé off at week 4 (about 10 days past conception) that I was pregnant. The ms has been bad since week 6 and I've been vomiting, with an alternation between diarrhea and constipation since week 9. This is the most uncomfortable experience of my life and I'm praying everyday that it stops so I can enjoy being pregnant and get back to some normalcy. My Doc gave me an Rx for zofran, but I was only taking it as needed, until I began vomiting that, too. Everything I've tried only works temporarily and then baby and my body reject it (crackers, pretzels, even water sometimes). Some days all I can do is vomit and cry and I have missed work so much that I'm probably going to get fired soon. This is my first and possibly last pregnancy. It doesn't matter what I do, eat every 2 hours, eat dry foods, protein rich foods, nothing helps. But as long as my doc keeps telling me baby is growing well and everything looks good, I will continue to suffer through it.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I also disagree that taking vitamins prior to conception will help alleviate morning sickness. I took prenatal vitamins for 6 months before I conceived, and still ended up with the ugly end of the sick stick.

bfanaian |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I also do not agree with the vitamins. I have been on the gummy vitamins for over a year before TTC and I have been having m/s from the moment my feet hit the floor in the morning until I go to sleep at night. Up until this week, I am 7 weeks, I have now started vomitting/dry heaving in the mornings the past 2 days and I feel like a million bucks the rest of the day. I guess I will take that over feeling awful all day and not throwing up. Hope everyone starts to feel better soon!!

I also don't agree with the pre-pregnancy vitamin theory. I began taking prenatals 1 full year before I actually got pregnant and I've been sick 24/7 since week 5. kristine310 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

there are several theories. here are the two that make the most sense to me. 1. when you get pregnant you begin to produce high levels of progesterone and reglan. reglan slows down peristalsis, which is the contractions that move food along the digestive tract. 2. they say it occurs more in women with a history of migraines - i have a history of migraines i am 17-weeks pregnant and i have hyperemesis gravidarum. i was out of work for about 6-weeks, had a trip to the ER for iv hydration, lost more than 5% of my body weight and i've been on Zofran since about a week after i found out i was pregnant. i've been progressively getting better for the last 3-weeks, however i still vomit after most meals. the good days outweigh the bad days so that's good with me. i also get really, really car sick, can't hold down ANY prenatal vitamins and i have crazy bad heartburn - i've never felt anything like it. the good thing is the baby is crazy healthy, baby gets all the nutrition.

DaisyR1030 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I would say a lot of it also has to do with which prenatal you are taking. There are a lot of crap prenatals out there. If your prenatal is PINK here is the first sign it is no good! I take the Melaluca prenatals and have been taking a multi-vitiman since well before I got pregnant. I am in my 6th week and so far no issues. I understand whole foods offers a really good prenatal as well. MAKE SURE TO TAKE YOUR VITAMINS ON A FULL STOMACH!!! So important. I think a good properly balanced diet also helps. Just the research I have done so far.

bdtrinity |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

That's total BS about the prenatals. I took prenatals daily for nearly a year before getting pregnant. I'm now almost 11 weeks along and I've been queasy at least once a day. The "morning" sickness hits me any time except when I'm sleeping. I've found taking Zantac helps reduce heartburn, but it will not kick the nausea to the curb. Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

With my first pregnancy I had absolutely no morning sickness at all. I am 7-8 weeks now and had nausea pretty much all day every day. I did switch vitamins and it has helped but am still sick to my stomach. No vomitting just sour stomach. So, I'm no really sure if it has alot to do with the vitamins. I think it has more to do with the sex of your baby and how your body reacts to the different hormones associated with the sex of the baby. Consumer Debt Consolidation | make money online

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I always thought that morning sickness was your body trying to fight off an unwanted change in your hormonal balance... like a virus that your immune system attacks to keep you running like you should. I know that doesn't make any sense to most of you as we're made/built to bear children, but it's the only thing that's ever made sense to me. I'll tell you what... I thought my morning ("all day nausea") sickness was just horrible, the worst thing ever, until hearing other people's horror stories about it. I didn't ever throw up, just felt like I could have any minute for about 6 weeks. Seems almost like the day I found out I was pregnant it started and let up exactly at 12 weeks. Best of luck to you ladies still suffering, hopefully it will let up soon! :)

I'm not quite sure I can stand behind the multi vitamins to prevent morning sickness. I started taking a prenatal vitamin about a year before we conceived and the first day I experienced morning sickness was at 4 weeks, before I even knew I was pregnant. I had planned on taking a test later that day anyway because I had a feeling. I'm almost at 12 weeks and it's a rare day that I don't get sick. People tell me it's a good sign because my hormones are really high and I'm able to live with it if it means I'll have a healthy baby in my arms in February. One thing I do though is I take my vitamins at night before bed so it has time to absorb before I get sick in the morning.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I started taking prenatal vitamins 3 months before I conceived and I took a multivitamin before that for years. I am six weeks and I feel sick to my stomach about 8 hours a day if not more.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

This says that women who take multi vitamins are LESS likely to have m/s, it did not say you would NOT have m/s at all. So, calm down moms.

I just discovered today that Vics Vapor Rub helps so much with nausea! Stick a little under your nose if you are at work, or leave a bottle open next to you at home. Also great for helping with headaches!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am pregnant with my second child. My first I never ever had nausea, the only pregnancy symtom with her was heartburn and an expanding uterus. But I'm only about 8 weeks pregnant with my second and I'm CONSTANTLY nauseated! I know it differs from baby to baby, not even necessarily gender either... The only difference in my life from the first to second is the first time I broke my vegetarian diet and ate chicken... This time, I haven't. I'm not saying that even has ANYTHING to do with it, but who knows. Both pregnancies, I was taking vitamins before conception, so I don't know how much that has to do with it. My suggestion for nausea - Small meals... don't over eat and don't get hungry. Make sure you're drinking enough water, that is key. It's supposed to pass after 12 weeks, just hang in there!!!!!!!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

TTC and feeling nauseous last couple of days, also I stated taking prenatal tabs recently so maybe that’s the cause. Over all I tried the over the counter prenatal med and that made me feel much more sick than the new ones I got from Whole Foods- don’t remember the brand but they are dairy/gluten etc free-cream color box. Trying a different brand of vitamins has helped quite a bit for me.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I am about 8 weeks now and have been having all day sickness for over a week. If I don't eat I feel sick, if I eat I feel sick it's just never ending! Just bought the sea bands today though and so far I think its working. Peppermints and peppermint tea have eased nausea quite a bit for me. My poor husband just feels so awful that I feel this way.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm roughly 6 weeks along and I've felt nauseous most of the six days but the last week and a half have been bad. I haven't been able to get past it and peppermint gum and tea only mildly helped to ease it. I feel like crud all the time and can't imagine all the weeks/months I have left to feel like this! I know my mom had hyperemesis gravidarum when she was pregnant with me and I really hope that is not the case! The only time I feel decent for a short while (no more than 15 minutes) is when I finally manage to throw up. Otherwise I'm curled up on the floor in the bathroom or on the couch with a bucket :/

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

With kid #2 on the way, I've come to realize that 2 things REALLY helped with my morning sickness... Lots of protein and a snack of crackers at night! I don't know why but the protein literally kicks butt - even when it doesn't sound good, I eat some and it makes a world of a difference! If I don't eat at night the mornings are miserable. I've heard that this helps for a lot of other women, too.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Im about 6 weeks and in the last week or so I have gone from no M/S to all day M/S. I havent puked once yet (knock on wood) but i feel super queezy from the minute i wake up to when i go to sleep and sometimes wake up with it. I do find that nothing sounds appatizing but as soon as i eat something, even a bite or two, i feel a million times better. Im going to start making small healthy snacks (ie. veggie sticks or fruit salad or yogurt) to have through out the day to see if it helps. I think it has alot to do with your chemistry changing. My poor hubby always thinks im in a bad mood because i look miserable. hopefully it doesnt last all 9 months. but if it does itll be worth every minute!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I have to agree with other posters: prenatal vitamins can actually increase nausea! I found that the ones with iron in them did a number on my stomach and taking them in the morning meant a full day of queasiness. Now, I take the gummy ones (they are actually pretty yummy!) as my "dessert" right before bed. It is still too soon to know if it works, but I am pretty confident it will be some improvement.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I 100% agree its the prenatal vitamin that is making me sick. Its like when you take too many pills and you feel sick. I have been taking prenatal vitamins for last couple years and I am only 5 weeks with my second child and I am starting morning sickness last day!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I had morning sickness in my 1st pregnancy from 7 weeks, til the day I gave birth. I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby and already the morning sickness is BAD! I have been trying to read up on the cause of this, most say its the sudden spikes in your hormones. Drs are always happy when you have morning sickness, as it means healthy baby. I never dehydrated with m 1st pregnancy, infact, with the morning sickness, I ended up picking up 30+ kgs, my baby weighed 4.64kgs at birth, he was a healthy baby!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I was just gonna believe the prenatal was the answer to my lack of morning sickness (I'm currently passed 10 weeks) but then reading all the people who disagree with the theory just make me feel like there's no answer for that anymore. I did start taking prenatal vitamins ever since I started TTC more than a year ago. I'm still taking the same all natural vegan no-coating prenatal vitamins which have a pretty disgusting appearance and taste. It works for me OK since I don't feel nausea. I've also started switching from salmon fish oil to this more expensive fermented fish oil, on top of my usual calcium, and Acidophilus. I also heard how bad you get morning sickness could be genetic related, but my mom did have morning sickness but she described it as not too bad though.

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

This is baby #1, and I have been consistent with my prenatals for a couple months prior to and even now...and lets just say, I've lost 9lbs in the last month due to all day nausea and some vomiting. I'm almost to 11 weeks, and can't wait til 12 weeks til all this goes away!! I'm ready to start enjoying my pregnancy!

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I'm five weeks and i've been sick since 4 weeks in, it's just a part of being preggo, keep saltines handy but EAT THEM SLOWLY!

MichelleMW2014 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

Oh man... haha I've been taking prenatals for about 2 years prior to TTC and I'm 8 weeks along today. My nausea has been crippling. I feel like I can only eat once a day and I tried that 'snacking all day' stuff.... it's tearing me up. :( I'll be so glad when this part is over. My first OB appointment is next week, I'm gonna see if the dr can give me something or suggest something... emetrol was working but it's not a sure shot. The problem is I'm finding little tricks to help the nausea but they differ from day to day and although they're helping my tummy, they're not giving me an appetite of any sort. :(

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

i am 7 weeks into my first pregnancy and have been feeling extreme morning sickness that suddenly stopped 2 days ago... which i am half happy about and half scared... i have no bleeding or cramping, but is there reason to be concerned?

starfish7714 |

Q&A: What causes morning sickness?

I have been vomiting a couple of times a week, but not daily. I have been taking multivitamins for years and continue to do so through the pregnancy. I am ten weeks along and am looking forward to hopefully soon being past m/s. I do now have to take my vitamins at night though because if I take them in the morning I will definitely vomit them up. They really trigger it in the morning. Just a reminder I guess that every woman is truly different.
