Q&A: What are implantation cramps?

It feels like I have menstrual cramps. Does this mean I didn’t get pregnant?

Re: It feels like I have menstrual cramps. Does this mean I didn’t get pregnant?

The Bump Expert

Nope. A bit of cramping about eight to ten days after ovulation might actually be a sign that you are pregnant. These pains -- known as implantation cramps -- can happen when the newly fertilized egg burrows itself into the wall of your uterus. If implantation is to blame, cramping should be minor and brief (lasting only a day or two), and may be accompanied by light spotting called implantation bleeding. Wait a few days, and if your period doesn’t show up when expected, break out the pregnancy test. (Good luck!)

If at any point in your pregnancy cramping is severe, lasts more than a couple of days or occurs after a positive pregnancy test, head straight to your doctor. It's probably just gas or the feeling of your growing uterus, but it's important to rule out miscarriage, pre-term labor, placental abruption, preeclampsia, and urinary tract infections.

re: Q: Implantation Cramps?

I think I may have had these last night. I woke up around 2 with cramping low. Not horrible but bad enough I couldn't sleep. AF is due in 6 days, when should I test?

re: Q: Implantation Cramps?

I am also having this type of "crampy" feeling now, for the past 2 days. It is very minor and only lasts for a max. of a minute or so - there is no sign of AF, or spotting, and its approx. 5 days past my AF due date.To the PP, I wouldn't worry until you are past your due date. I usually get that crampy feeling right before AF is due, and then she shows. Right now I am 5 days late and AF is no where to be found.

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

Hi, I don't know what the cramps I have mean at this point, we have 3 boys though we didn't plan them so I never really paid attention to anything that happened before my AF in the previous 4 times I was pregnant (my last pregnancy ended up in a miscarriage on April 1st this year). This time around we are charting temp and taking OPK's my OPK was positive on the 25th and according to my BBT shift I ovulated that same day, we tried O-1 and the day of O. Right now I'm feeling crampy and a like a pin prick pain on the right side of my uterus off and on (like a blinking light kinda rhythm).. I'm 6DPO today and I dont know what all this means, is this to early to be feeling any symptoms of implantation? I'm still 10 days away from AF.

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

I had these cramps too that lasted for a week or more. I am 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant and the doctors say all of this is normal. I continue to have twinges and that is just the uterus expanding to prepare for the baby.

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

I am post ovulation as well... should end this month's cycle on the 12th. I get lower abdominal twinges, like I am ovulating. I know I am already past that because of the strips. I have no idea what this is? I have no signs of a pregnancy... does this mean I am not pregnant?

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

The past week I've been having cramps in my thighs like I do when PMSing. Its been bad enough that I've been unable to sleep. Finally lay on the icy-hot and able to go to sleep. I had finished my period on the 19th of july and gotten my new set of pills on the 21st, took the one for that day and then kept forgetting them all week. I took one last night and today but have had strange stomach pains the past week. Felt sick to my stomach but no vomiting. Is this a possibility of being pregnant? or just wishful thinking?

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

Last weekend, we took a pregnancy test (gut feeling) and it came out positive. I was supposed to get my period yesterday but it did not come so I am convinced I am pregnant. I have been SO bloated and having minor dulling cramping for about 5 days now... is that normal? I made my dr. appt for my 8 wk but I don't want to be that paranoid person calling them so soon... I am just concerned that something is wrong!

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

I have heard a lot of people do have the cramping. I had cramping and said "oh I have cramps, here comes my period!" 5 days past with me going, "okay, maybe its going to start tomorrow!" Little did I know there was not a period for me. Ta Da, Bun in the oven!

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

I have been having crazy cramping for about 3 weeks now... this was my first clue that I may be pregnant. Sure enough I am- 5 weeks now, but I'm still having this weird cramping. They are just as intense as normal period cramps but don't last as long and they're sporadic throughout all day and night... occasionally I'll get the sharp twinge too. I've been told it's all normal. But it's been constant for about 3 weeks now. I can feel a LOT of stuff going on down there, the only way I can explain it...? So I guess at this point it's not from implantation but maybe other things... not sure. But no worries here, from what I've heard and read it's all totally normal!

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

When I was with my guy earlier today my stomach started hurtin something awful, like menstal cramps but I never get those...lol. I thought it was just cus I hadn't eaten today and figured it would probably be too soon for any sign of pregnancy since I just ovulated a week ago... this post is seriously giving me some hope b/c I had a sneaky suspicion it might be what was going on. I hope I'm preggers!!!

re: Q: Implantation cramps?

About a week ago I had a very minor case of cramps and then a very small amount of bleeding. At first I was concerned but then after reading I think it could have been implantation bleeding. I still get little cramps here and there. AF is due in another day or two but I'm crossing my fingers!

Q&A: What are implantation cramps?

I have had a little cramping. Nothing sharp but consistent and dull. I haven't had any spotting either. I'm worried because I'm a little more than 4 weeks. It shouldn't still be implantation cramps this far in right? I don't even have my first OB appt. for another two weeks. I don't know what I should do.
