Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I just saw some spotting and am freaking out. I’m still in my first trimester -- am I having a miscarriage?

Re: I just saw some spotting and am freaking out. I’m still in my first trimester -- am I having a miscarriage?

The Bump Expert

Not necessarily...and while it's important to call your doc, it's just as important to sit down, relax, and breathe for a minute. About 20 to 30 percent of women experience bleeding in the first trimester, and only about half of this number actually miscarry.

So what else could it be? If it's the week or two after conception likely occurred, it may be implantation bleeding. This happens when your little fertilized (yay!) egg starts burrowing into your uterus, and can appear as light spotting for anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Since your cervix is especially sensitive right now, you might notice bleeding after sex. If this happens, wait to have sex again until you've spoken with your doc. (But not because sex can cause miscarriage! It can't! But, your doctor can help you avoid further irritation.) Bleeding can also be a sign of infection in your pelvic cavity or urinary tract, or may simply be a result of the increased blood flow to your cervix.

That said, it's still important to call your doctor whenever you notice bleeding. Though it could be nothing, it also could be a sign of ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, or miscarriage. No matter what the cause, though, our initial recommendation stands -- sit down and take a deep breath. Worrying won't change a thing.

re: Q: Bleeding -- is it miscarriage?

I had a total meltdown a couple of days ago when I had spotting and cramping. Feeling much better after seeing my doctor today. Everything looks good ... we'll see how the blood work turns out.

re: Q: Bleeding -- is it miscarriage?

This morning I had some brownish/white discharge when using the bathroom. No severe cramping or bright red blood. It is only presnt when I wipe though. I called the dr office and the nurse told me to stay off my feet today, that it is most likely old blood from describing it. I hope all is well, I do not have my appt until Thursday! Forever away!

re: Q: Bleeding -- is it miscarriage?

So i started wearing a pad today due to all the discharge at work...on my way home from work i got bad cramps that i thought was gas..then felt like i got my period. I rushed in my house and into the bathroom...surprise ...the pad was full of blood..not soaked..but like a normal period..and i'm about 7 weeks pregnant.. Anyone else experience this? I called my OB/GYN right away...my dr wasn't on call..and he basically just told me to hang out through the weekend and i see any clots or bleed worse...to go in on Monday...he wasn't very reassuring though....i'm freaking out..

re: Q: Bleeding -- is it miscarriage?

I had slight bleeding, only when i wiped, then little (gross but the only way i can describe it) brownish, pinkish snot lite things. The past 3 nights (only) they got bigger about the size of a m&m. Went to the Dr. she did blood work on Monday (3/30/09) and my hormone levels were @ 74,000, went back yesterday (4/02/09) and my hormone levels dropped to 70,000, she said they should have doubled. I'm scared and worried dont really know what this means or what to expect??? I'm 10wks. 3 days.

re: Q: Bleeding -- is it miscarriage?

I just experienced some bleeding at 10 weeks. I got home from some errands and saw my underwear was stained and then a few minutes later a small gush (if that makes sense) of blood came out (scary!). The rest of the day and next day it was really light spotting close to nothing. I saw my doctor on Monday and he did an exam and we heard the baby's heartbeat. No blood tests or anything, but he seemed to think everything was fine and normal.

re: Q: Bleeding -- is it miscarriage?

I am 10 weeks and 3 days today and last night I was out to eat and went to use the restroom because I felt like I was leaking something and when I went to the bathroom there was bright red blood. And it flowed for about 5 minutes and tapered off. Went to the ER and had more blood throughout the night and early morning, but no clotting or real bad cramping. I have been feeling slightly achy since yesterday and today still and still having some bleeding. The did the U/S, took blood and everything came back ok, but still not relaxed since there is still blood and they don't know why yet. I am going to see my doctor on Monday to follow up. Has anyone had an experience like this and everything was ok? They are calling it a threatened miscarriage and told me to rest for two days.

I'm 13 weeks and have had light spotting (brownish/Pink) when I wipe for almost a week. I havent called my Doc. since I have an appt. this Fri. I'm sure it's fine, but it is a little scary since it's all of the sudden. I'm sure it's fine.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

When I was 9 weeks, I had some slight spotting of brown. I was in full panic mode since we had a prior loss and called me Dr. They had me come in and get checked and my cervix was closed tight and thick and they saw "old blood." It actually ended up being a bladder infection that was causing the spotting, so they put me on an antibiotic and things have been better! So if you have any spotting, I would def. give your Dr. a call. I would never have guessed a bladder infection and they said if I hadn't called and it got left untreated, things could have gotten bad.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I'm 6w1d and I went to the bathroom after the gym and noticed that my underwear had some brown spots on it, like what it'd look like during my first day of my period. I wiped and there was more blood- I can't remember if it was bright red or what, but not it's more like a light redish pink. I know it's more encouraging for it to be brown and light pink, I would say mine's pinkish red, but not bright red. I'm really worried and scared. It's good to know this is normal but I really hope that I'm not one of the 50% among women who spot who miscary. Good luck to all the other women on this board- I hope we are all healthy and that the babies are okay!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am only 4 weeks along and have been spotting brown blood all week. From what I've read and heard from my doctor it is fairly common to spot in your first trimester and the slight cramping in the lower abdomen is the uterus stretching and strengthening. I was told that drinking raspberry leaf tea can strengthen the uterus and reproductive organs which will help you throughout your pregnancy. My Dr. is having me drink one cup of raspberry leaf tea (which you can get at GNC or any other local health store) a day. I am feeling much more relaxed and my stress is down!! Just remember it's always good to consult your doctor for anything you feel is out of the ordinary!!! Good luck to everyone going through this and stay positive!!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am 4w5d and have had light brown spotting/cm since I found out I was pregnant last week. My doctor and acupuncturist both told me not to worry about it unless it gets darker, heavier, or is accompanied by painful cramping. I'm drinking raspberry leaf tea every day too and doing acupuncture weekly. Trying to stay positive! :)

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Hey there, call your doctor for sure. It may end up being nothing, but it is always better to be safe. I started spotting at 5wk1d. I had one episode of pinkish spotting when I wiped after using the bathroom then nothing until the next day. since then I have been lightly spotting (mostly when I wipe after using the bathroom) that is dark brown with small brown flecky things. This has been happening for 5 days now. I am 5wk5d now and have Dr. appt Monday when I will be 6wk1d. Have had 2 previous m/c though, so a little nervous, but trying to stay positive. I hope things turned out all right for everyone here who was worried. Here's to happy, healthy babies for all of us!!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I'm 9 weeks pregnant today and ladies I know what you mean. On the second of october I was out shopping and when I went to the restrm I noticed I had started bleeding I freaked out and went strait to the ER. They did an ultra sound everything was fine. Although I thought this nightmare was over it was far from it. Since then about every 2-3 days I still have spotting I have had 3 ultra sounds and everything is still fine. They have no idea whats causing it to happen, but for sure I freak out every time this happens. I'm just praying that we can just get to 15 weeks then we'll extend it to 20 and so on. but for now we are going to be going to the docs office every 2 weeks just to be sure everything is still ok. Dont fear for the worst alot of time the worst is what you'll get. Thats what I'm telling myself now after all this crazyness.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I found out I was pregnant a week and a half ago, and am just over 7 weeks. I have had brownish discharge since I found out. I had break thru bleeding while I was on birth control for a couple years that no amount of estrogen/progestin mix could fix. I know that the brownish spotting is ok/normal at first, but it's not going away. Today I'm really crampy almost like period type cramps and I had period-like discharge that was actually brown. Not really clotted like a normal period would supply, but just enough there to make me wonder why. Anyone have this happen or anyone have any input? Naturally I will be calling my dr tomorrow to see if she can give me a good answer, but I'm kinda looking for some ease thru someone who may have dealt with this before. Thanks.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I'm around 5 weeks pregnant and yesterday i started spotting, which was really just showing up when i wiped. It started out a brownish red, and has varied in amount. Its not flowing freely like a normal period, but it is really scaring me. I spoke to the nurse at my dr office, and she said that it isn't too abnormal to happen this early, but to relax this weekend and stay hydrated. She said it would be more of a problem if there was a heavy flow with bright red blood and clots, and if that happens to go to the ER. I'm trying to relax but everytime i think about it I cry. This is my first pregnancy and we were just starting to get excited about it. We told our immediate family thursday night (parents and siblings) and this all started on Friday morning!! ugh... take care everybody...

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am a bit over 4 weeks pregnant and have had mostly brown spotting since yesterday. I went to the ER because it was bright red yesterday, just a very small bit. They did an ultrasound, HCG levels, and found that there was a sac and my cervix was closed. Now I have to get my HCG levels retested tomorrow. Hopefully they have doubled! I have been taking it easy today, but I have to go back to work tomorrow! Yikes!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I've been having a tough time TTC and finally got pregnant! My menstrual cycles are abnormally long (>40 days). They haven't found out exactly why. So even though my LMP was 11/16/09, according to the beta HCG tests, I'm only 3 weeks along. My progesterone level was low, too (4.4), so my doc put me on progesterone suppositories. I've been spotting, as well. So this combo is making me really, really nervous. My doc said that as long as the spotting was not bright red blood requiring a pad or tampon like I would need during a period, I was okay. I'm only having light cramping, as well. Although this may be symptom of the vaginal suppositories. Nothing that compared to my periods, though. He did say to take it easy. No major lifting and no intercourse yet. This is my first as well. Prayers to all!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Kasmango- if it makes you feel any better, I am in virtually the same exact situation as you. We told our fam and some really close friends about the growing munchkin, and over the weekend I started spotting...mostly in the morning and very light. It's still scary, but seeing all these posts definitely eases my mind a little. Especially since my hubby is out of town and I'm trying to deal alone!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am 10 weeks and just had my first experience with spotting. Brownish in color. It just made my heart sink and then I started of course to expect the worst. I am resting now and trying not to think about it. I took the day of work tomorrow and am going to try to get an appointment with my dr. a week early, I still haven't had my first appointment yet. My husband and I are eager to go in and get a few answers to our questions. Waiting is definitely the hard part. All I can do is pray and wait, and pray some more.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am 7 weeks and 5 days today. I had some spotting (brown discharge) earlier this week only when I wiped. Today it was pink blood and there was a lot of it. It is there everytime I wipe. :( I freaked and called my dr. I go in today to get an ultrasound. I don't have a good feeling at all. I am pretty sure this is a miscarriage. There isn't any tissue but there is just so much pink/maroon when I wipe. Please pray for me!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I had spotting last week (9 weeks) and then a couple days later had actual bleeding for an entire day. I went to the doctor and had 2 ultrasounds and examinations and everything is fine. I am 10w2days now and still spotting. My doctor just said to take it easy, no sex or excersise until the bleeding stops.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

When I was 6 weeks pregnant I started spotting brown blood and cramping, so I called my doctor. I got an ultrasound right away and got to see the little heartbeat. My doctor said the brown stuff was just old leftover blood and I didn't need it anyway so might as well get rid of it. Even tho I'd spotted for 4 days, she wasn't worried, there was just a little extra there. As for the cramping, just the uterus growing and the baby trying to fully implant itself into me. Honestly, the stress is a much worse thing for baby than the spotting. What's going to happen will, we just need to relax and let it. Worrying has never helped anybody.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Hi. I am i think almost 8 weeks pregnant and have been spotting for the past 2 weeks. When I first went to my doc last week, I had a u/s and blood test. U/S showed that I wasn't as far along as I thought or that I had a miscarriage. But my blood test showed I had 11171 hcg. I was traveling last week and continued to spot (gross brown mucus) and I had 1 incident with red,red blood. Had another u/s and blood test yesterday..now i'm just waiting to hear back from my doc. I'm trying to relax but it's hard!

I have no cramping at all but im so scared because i experienced a miscarriage last december at 11wks. I have my first Doctors appointment a week from today but its taking so long to get here. Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

When I was 7-8 weeks along I had a streak of blood when I wiped that was red- which terrified me because everything I read made it sound like only brown was to be expected, and it wasn't the right time for "implantation bleeding" so I called the dr. who said if it was just once it should be okay. I also had a little cramping around the same time. Several other times I had light pink discharge. But, we had our US on Wednesday and saw the heart beating! I was so relieved!!! Hope it can helps someone else to know a little spotting can be okay!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

At 12 weeks I had some bleeding- No Crapmping at first, but I had a crampy feeling all week before the bleeding. It began on Sunday morning, I called the dr and she said if I fill more than 2 pads then go to the ER, but otherwise be at the Dr office first thing on Mon. The ultras sound showed everything was good. The placenta was sitting on top of the Cervix and the baby sitting on that was causing the presure and most likely the bleeding. it stopped in less than 48 hours. I had a test for the measurement of the spinal fluid schedule on Wed. and she said the placenta had already began to grow up the usterus wall and all looked great! SO DON'T PANIC! all is great thank God!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

The day after I found out I am pregnant, I got up the next morning and had bright red blood. I called my doctor and he had me go get blood taken immediately to check my hcg levels. He told me that my levels were good and had gone up and that my progesterone levels were very good. This was on a thursday, he told me to get blood taken again on monday. After doing that my levels again jumped up to 2,000. He said this was very good, but I still was spotting. Actually on that sunday I had a decent amt of blood in the morning and even a few little clots. So he had me go in for an ultrasound. They found the embryo and I measure 5 and a half weeks. He said all looks good and that I may have spotting for another week. Well he was right. The bleeding turned into a dark discharge which got lighter and lighter and I thought finally stopped and went away as of yesterday and this morning. But this afternoon during a bathroom visit I had a couple drops of blood in the toilet : ( I am getting very tired of spotting it has been over 2 weeks. I have another ultrasound in a few days and really hope to see the heartbeat!!! I am 7weeks today.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

When I was 5 weeks along I started seeing a little pink on the tissue when I would use the restroom. I had bad cramping since the week before I found out I was pregnant so I didn't know if the cramping was abnormal or not. My doctor saw me and said everything is fine and gave me the good news that I was actually 6.5 weeks along! I saw the hearbeat and everything looked great. About 3 days later I started spotting brown mucus extremely heavy accompanied with bad cramps. I was hysterically crying thinking that this was a horrible sign. My doctors saw me right away and my ultrasound showed a healthy baby, slightly bigger and heartbeat was even stronger! The Doctor explained to me that the brown discharge is old blood and as your uterus grows and expands it can sometimes push out that old blood. They said that 30% of pregnant women experience this and have perfectly healthy babies! I am now 11 weeks and going strong!!! :)

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I'll 11 weeks pregant, this being my first pregnancy and I'm scared of having a m/c. Before I found out I was pregnant I had a lot of cramps leading up to the days I would have started my period. A couple weeks after that, I started spotting, sometimes with cramping but mostly without. When I went in for my first visit, my dr said it increased my chances of having a m/c. Not very reasuring. We had an u/s done and everything looked great, the heartbeat was 150 per min., and the tec. couldn't see any reason for the spotting. A couple days later, the office called with my lab work. Turns out I had an UTI that was causing the spotting. I took the antibiotics and a few days later, I stopped spotting, and luckly haven't since. Hopefully this helps someone else out who likes to stress and worry as much as me. Good luck to everyone!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I don't really know how far I am. I think I'm about 4 weeks maybe. I took a test and started getting symptoms the next week. For the record...M/S sucks. Now I'm bleeding. I don't mean I'm just spotting. I'm bleeding like I'm having a light period. I'm only 21 so I called my mom and she set me up an appointment to see the doctor tomorrow, but I am an extremly parinoid person so I am scared out of my mind. Has anyone ever heard of anyone bleeding this much and it not being a M/C? I've already had three M/C and I don't want another one.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Today has been the 30th day straight of bleeding. Sometimes its heavier, sometimes its barely nothing. A friend suggested I take a pregnancy test, so I did, and it was positive. I've had 4 blood tests and my hcg levels keep going up, and the baby is too small to determine on an ultrasound whether its ectopic or not. Anyone heard of bleeding for a straight month while pregnant??

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am 4 weeks 5 days. This morning when I woke up I saw brown tacky discharge in my underwear. After lunch I went to the bathroom and it turned to red and more like a light period, there was not a lot but it was red so I was concerned. I called the Dr. office and talked to a nurse, she said that this is normal in women and as long as it is not enough to soak a pad it's ok. She told me to watch it and I'll be fine. I'm still nervous because I have read alot of things that say that is how a miscarriage starts. I don't go to my first appointment for another 3 weeks! I'm glad to read that some women are having the same issues I am. It's just hard to wait and watch everytime you pee hoping nothing is there and your baby is healthy! Good luck everyone, keep you in my prayers!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

So my husband and i, found out we were pregnant with our first baby and of course we were so excited.. well excitement turned into a horrible day when we thought we were 7 weeks gregnant and i had that brownish discharge. we went to the er just to get checked out. they took blood and did an us. while with the us tech she didn't see anything on the screen. my heart sank and i started bawling, but the good news is the hormone levels showed we were less than 5 so thats prolly the reason we didn't see anything. i have had that spotting for 10 days now and it ranges from nearly nothing to a small flow. my hormone levels doubled which is also a good sign. my doc doesn't seem to concerned and is seeing me monday so i hope everything turns out ok.. for us and for all the other moms out there being scared by this obnoxious spotting..

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I started spotting at week 5. I actually had one Dr. tell me that my baby was dead and that I needed to count the pregnancy as a loss after an ultrasound at week 5 showed no heartbeat. I wanted a second opinion and went to another OB and they did an ultrasound and we have a heartbeat!! Needless to say, very grateful for the second opinion. Also, bloodwork showed a low progesterone level and since taking supplemental progesterone I have only had one more incidence of spotting.

I don't remember exactly how far along I was but 13 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter I thought for sure I was having a miscarriage. I had heavy bleeding and cramps. I went to the ER and they assumed I was miscarrying. The doctor decided to do an ultrasound to be sure and there was my little girl just fine. They think she may have been a twin?! Now I am 36 years old and about 6 weeks pregnant and I have had a bit of pinkinsh discharge and tonight I noticed some brownish spotting. I hope it is just old blood. I haven't seen a doctor yet and don't want to visit the ER.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Am 7 weeks pregnant today and had a large blood clot 4 days ago, i totally collapsed and thought i lost my 1st baby. according to the doc advice i took a shot that night to fix the pregnancy till i met him the next day and thank God the baby heartbeats was heard for the first time through the U/S. The doctor resolved that this was old blood and likely i will have it again, no sex and rest for a month and then another U/S. you should definitely see your doc when u have spotting, but most likely its just old blood that needs some rest and surely no tension or stress. happy pregnancy all :)

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

To all women who come here to search for answers or to read what other women have gone through to understand spotting... I have felt your nervouseness, worry and stress. I wanted to share what happened in hopes it helps someone. I am 9 weeks pregnant and have had dark brown spotting pretty much 20 out of the last 30 days. I didn't worry at first but then it continued day after day after day mostly when I went to the restroom. I was able to go into the doctors at 7 weeks and they did an U/S. They were able to see that I had twins but one did not make it. The doctor said it is not uncommon for women to have more than one baby and one not maturing. Most women never get to know this because some Dr's don't have you come in until 10 weeks or later where you would never see it in the U/S. The spotting has continued so I talked to my Dr again, she said that unless it is a bright red &/or have severe cramping everything should be normal. I had my second U/S today and the twin which didn't mature is still desolving and might be for a little longer but the other one is doing fine (crossing fingers & praying as I am 39). This is our first baby. We have been blessed as we have been trying for 5 1/2 years. Good luck to you all.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Probably not but just take things easy. I'm in my 8th week and when I saw my dietician today she says it's common in pregnant women especially in the first trimester. She also said that it will sometime happen during the same time that you would normally have your regular periods. But if you are worry or if he leads to a heavy bleeding call your doctor.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I just wanted to share my experience with spotting and where I'm sitting at right now. I had brown spotting lasting about 2-5 hours twice within one week, four days apart actually. This all happened last week. I called my OB the second day I had spotting and they had me come down that same day for an ultra sound and blood samples. I originally wasn't scheduled to go in until 8 weeks. So I had an u.s. and it was amazing, heart beat was steady and everything looked good, no lesions or bleeding showing on the ultra sound images. So onto the blood samples. They took some blood and reported to me the next day. It was definitely an intense 24 hours of waiting. Well my hcg levels were perfect as were other levels they tested but my progesterone levels were not where they needed to be and that is why I've been spotting. They have me on progesterone twice a day 50 mg each time with these gross tasting tabs that melt under your tongue, but it's worth it to make sure everything is going ok. I encourage anyone and all to call your doctor and discuss with them what is going on. It doesn't hurt to at least have a phone call and maybe some tests to make sure everything is truly ok. I go in this Thursday for more blood tests and every week for the next few weeks to monitor things. They said I should only have to be on progesterone until the placenta forms, then the placenta takes over the progesterone normally which should be in a couple weeks. So please call your OB and discuss with them any questions you may be having. It very well could be nothing, but it also could be something.

I am 11weeks, and last night I noticed very light spotting while trying to go to the bathroom. Bright red blood but maybe only less than a tablespoon in volume. 2 hours later when I went to the bathroom, there was no new blood on my pantyliner, and the remaining blood lingering inside me that came off when I wiped had turned brown. This morning, there was still no more spotting. I called my doctor's nurse who said light spotting was 100% completely and totally normal. She said this oftentimes happens when you're straining to go to the bathroom (she told me to take a stool softener every day to prevent this) or have recently had sex, and they would see a cause for alarm if there was bright red heavy flow blood that doesn't stop or heavy painful cramping or backache. I have my 12 week appt. next week, and unless I start bleeding again or experience heavy cramping, she said there was no need for me to come in today. After speaking with her and since I have had 2 very positive ultrasounds with a stronger than usual heartbeat (over 160 bpm!), I am much relieved. Praise God! Don't hesitate to call your doctor! More than likely, it's no cause for worry, and you'll feel much better knowing you've spoken with him/her and that they've been updated on the situation. Happy pregnancies!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I want to share my experience because when I started spotting I read this page from beginning to end... I was just over 6 weeks and had brown discharge, really only there when I would wipe. I read this page, started to feel better, but then started to think about it and called my doctor. They scheduled an appointment and started blood work to see if my hormone levels were going up. After about 5 days of brown spotting, I started to have more of a reddish spotting. After about 2 more days of light spotting it became heavier. I just knew things weren't okay. One evening I had severe cramping and the next day I began the full miscarriage process, which is not pretty. I'm not saying this to scare anyone, I'm sure most people who read this will have a healthy baby, but I want to say CALL YOUR DOCTOR!! It helped so much to have them fully in the loop. Also, I had a wonderful friend who had been through a miscarriage talk me through the process and she was so comforting. So find a friend! Good luck to all of you, I wish you all the best!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Before I got pregnant I spotted pretty much 2 1/2 weeks a month every month between my periods, and knowing that spotting is normal during first trimester (pink & brown anyways) I did not become alarmed after almost 2 weeks of spotting. However, after going to the bathroom and seeing red I got pretty nervous. We were moving/traveling so had to find a hospital where we spent the night in the ER being tested. The doctor determined that everything was right on track, but I was 2 weeks behind where we had estimated I was (I was only 4 weeks along, we thought I was 6). I go for my second appointment later this week. Hopefully there is a bigger, growing spot on the ultrasound and my hcg levels have gone up significantly. It has helped to hear that other women have had lots of spotting and healthy pregnancies!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I started having moderate bleeding at 6 weeks, and of course I freaked out. It was a Saturday so my Doctor's office was closed. I contacted the on-call doc and she said that if I have severe cramping or if I'm passing clots to go to the ER. Otherwise, take it easy and go in for an ultrasound first thing on Monday. I bled throughout the rest of the weekend, sometimes spotting and sometimes heavier like a regular period. Even though I had little to no cramping, I was prepared for the worst. Fortunately an ultrasound on Monday morning showed a healthy baby! I even got to see and hear the heart beat :) Doc said that bleeding in the first trimester is pretty common and she sees 3-4 people every week with the same issue. She said it's ALWAYS a good idea to come be seen if you're having bleeding, but more often than not they find a healthy baby. I have had some light spotting since this incident, but nothing too extreme. While I know I'm not out of the woods yet, I feel so relieved that everything is ok for now :)

My first pregnancy was very smooth - the dream pregnancy Second one not so well! I found out right a way! and starting bleeding from week 6 to week 14 - I had very HEAVY bleeding off and on every two weeks - I am now very excited to be going into my 30 week with a big healthy baby boy!! :) It is extremely scary and stressful you just have to stay positive!!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

SShreve11- Thank you so much for your post. I, too, am having the light to regular period bleeding. I went a little over a week ago for an ultrasound and they saw the baby and heartbeat. I was only 5 weeks 5 days, not the 7 weeks they had originally thought. They will not tell me everything is ok until after the first trimester, however, the did tell me they didn't find anything wrong. I go back this coming Thursday for another ultrasound. I will be 7 weeks 5 days then. I am nervous as this is my first pregnancy. Hopefully we both carry full term beautiful healthy babies!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I too am so grateful for this message board. I am 39, a twin, & one of 12 children...my mom only had one miscarriage...my husband and I have been ttc for 7 years now and my twin recently had her 2nd daughter on the 1st. I flew out to be there and spent the first night all night with my new niece....and celebrated my twin's & my b-day together and discovered I was pregnant!!! It was the best gift...i could hardly wait to get home and tell my husband, but I had to help my mom drive out from Az. to Tx. to visit my grandpa and other family first...there was more 2nd hand smoke than I care for, but things seemed fine. I finally get back on the 14th & share the news with my husband who of course is elated! But the next motioning I was trying to cough up/vomit (sorry) mucous from some type of cold I picked up and it felt like I was trickling pee down my leg. I looked down and saw dark spots on the bathroom floor, flipped on the light, and freaked out as red blood "fell" out of me onto the floor...my mom hadn't left town yet (my town) and came over and said she didn't think it was too much, but it was more than I cared to see...since then, it has stopped and I've only had some brown when I wipe, but just tonight it was reddish again when I wiped and I'm concerned...i do have an appt., thankfully tomorrow...and an hopeful everything is okay... :/ I am six weeks and this is our first. Praying God's blessing on us all and the little life growing inside!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I'm about 5 wk pregnant and my 1st doc appointment is tomorrow afternoon. Last week I had some light brown spotting, which didn't last long. I didn't get too worry about since I had a surgery for mild dysplasia back in November. Today, however, I had some red spotting early morning, stopped, and then some more early afternoon. Now it seems to have stopped. I can't wait for my appointment tomorrow!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

According to the doctor's calculations i am 7 weeks 1 day pregnant, but if i deduct those 2 "extra" weeks that are always added, i am actually 5 weeks 1day. Last night was the last time i noticed a slight pinkish mark when i wiped which was on and off for a week since last Wednesday. I am worried. I went for another blood test today to make sure the beta number is doubling. Has anyone experienced this spotting during this week of pregnancy??

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

First of all... thank you to all of you for sharing your stories. It makes everything so much easier to deal with. I think I am about 4 1/2 wks, but have actually not gotten a positive on a HPT yet. AF is definitly late and I have started having signs that I am pregnant. I was planning on waiting a little longer before going to see a doc about having a blood test to confirm. But today while I was at work I noticed some spotting. I am not sure if it is my period coming on or if it is the same thing that many of you have described. The normal signs of me starting my period have not accompanied this spotting, so I'm still hopefull that its not AF. Plus I work for Fedex so I am doing a lot of heavy lifting throughout the day and am wondering if the strain could have caused the spotting. I am nervous though. Not sure if I should go ahead and make my appointment with the doc or just ride it out a little longer and see if it is AF. I am getting frustrated with not knowing for sure what is going on. Ready to know if I am pregnant or not! Good luck to you all and thanks!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

At 8 weeks I started spotting, I went to the ER and all tests came back fine, they said I had a threatened miscarriage. At 10 weeks I was spotting on and off and work up with a lot of blood on my toilet paper along with a blood clot and tissue floating around in the toilet. I resigned myself to having a miscarriage. I couldn't see the Dr. till 4 days later. And everything is fine once again, she said the clot may have been behind the placenta? Not sure if this helps anyone, I am currently 11 weeks almost 12, and I hate this scarey walking on egg shells feeling. My husband is scared to tell anyone, so only a handful of close family know. I am obviously hoping for the best, and the best to all of you out there as well.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago, and could not be happier. My husband and I have been trying for a year. I made my first appointment this past week for 11/2/12. I can't wait to have the final confirmation from the Dr. I advised the nurse that I started spotting but she said It was nothing to worry about unless it is heavy and I am in pain. It has now been 4 days and it seems to be getting heavier and more frequent but not enough to go to the E.R. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow because I can't keep wondering if I am having a miscarriage. Any advise, please post.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am 12 weeks and 4 days and had not had any bleeding until the last 3 days. The first time I noticed it , it was a brownish color but only when I wiped. The next day I had nothing but the following day it was a lot more and a darker brown. I went to the dr. , I don't have a urinary tract infection, the baby would not stop moving during the ultrasound :) such a relief to hear the heartbeat. The dr. said it is not normal to bleed but that many women do. ( a bit confusing and scary to hear that it is not normal)Another day with nothing and now today a small watery light pink spot when wiping. I am 38 , my first pregnancy ever so I am very worried :( Anybody in my situation?

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Ladies I am here with some hope. I am 8wks 2days today, I bled lightly (red) for almost 2 weeks when I was 6 week preg. Not heavy but wore a pany liner everyday. Well anyway I went to get U/S today. And evrything is fine,so far so good:) saw heartbeat and a little bean. It just happends!! Believe I freaked out too but I never had any pain so why go to doctor or ER, what are they gonna do? they can't make you stop bleeding. Remember NO PAIN. Just be patiant your body is adjusting. Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am going through something similar. I am 8 weeks and started to get a brownish discharge. My dr did an emergency ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a healthy baby and an strong heart beat. After the ultrasound. Now I am having browning pink discharge. And some mild cramping just started. Anyone experiance this?

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I had a fast rush of dark brown discharge last night. I will be 13 weeks tomorrow. I had and have no cramping and no other symptoms. Went to the emergency room and the ER dr done a ultrasound. The baby was moving like crazy and had a heartbeat. They took my blood levels and they were exactly where they needed to be. I have had no discharge since the first time last night. Has anyone else experienced this or have any explanation for this. The ER dr said it could possibly be the sign of a early miscarriage or many different things. I see the OB tomorrow

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I was 8.5 weeks when I started spotting. On Saturday, it was just brown spotting when I wiped. It was only on the toilet paper maybe 5 times. I wasn't concerned. Then I started having really bad cramps that night and while I tried to sleep. On Sunday, I had more spotting now it was more brown blood. That day and night it just started getting worse. I called the Dr. Monday morning and they said not to worry this is okay the first trimester as long as you don't see clotting and red blood. As Monday progressed the brown blood started turning into rusty colored blood and there was more of it. Just alittle on the pantyliner but when I wiped it was like I had my period. There was also rusty colored tissue on the toilet paper. The cramping was getting worse too. I called the Dr. Tuesday morning and she said I was probably having a miscarriage. They did a vaginal ultrasound and a regular ultrasound. I also got blood work done. The sac only grew to six weeks and my hormone levels were at 15,000. I am super sad, this was my first pregnancy. I pray that all of your pregnancies turn out healthy for you and baby!

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

My first pregnancy I started bleeding the very day I had my positive test. It was like my period at first, got really heavy, then turned into spotting the rest of the weekend. Monday I made a doctor appt. first thing and was told I could only see a nurse. The nurse told me bleeding was normal, I even told her HOW much I bled and she said, again, not to worry. Everything I read was half and half. Some stories were of women who had heavy bleeding and then had a positive appointment with their doctor and everything was fine, and some were from women who ended up miscarrying. In my case, it was a miscarriage. In short, the only way to know for sure is to see your DOCTOR. If they tell you you are too early along (I was 6 weeks) to see a doctor, ask for a regular GYN appointment. When I followed up with my doctor after the miscarriage that was what she had said should have happened, but often the receptionists don't understand what "6 week and heavy bleeding" means, they just know that at 6 weeks you get a nurse consultation.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

Ok, here's the story. I was on the pill for about a year and a half. Before that my period would come anywhere from 3-5 weeks, but on the pill it was without fail, every fourth Tuesday. I went off the pill after my period in September and my husband and I started ttc. Almost 6 weeks went by and no sign of af whatsoever. Then some brown discharge. Then I bled a little bit and thought I was starting my period. Then I read you could bleed after intercourse and thought maybe it was that. My "period" (holding onto hope that maybe it wasn't) was definitely lighter than even before I was on the pill and I only had cramping one day which is not usual for me. I used a tampon thinking I was on my period and am wondering if that could have made me bleed like intercourse.. also was a bit constipated and my nips have been hurting and I'm bloated. Sometimes I would have these symptoms with my period but the bleeding, whatever it was, is over now and am still experiencing this. Had 2 negative tests, one a week before and is a day before the bleeding, so pretty early. Thinking of doing another test..can't hurt I guess..I sooo want a baby!!! Will let you know what happens...

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I was at 10w2d when I saw I was spotting. it was late on Saturday night, and on Sunday I was still spotting, but it was light and without cramps. I decided to call my OB/GYN on Monday if I was still spotting, but I woke up on Monday to a full-blown period. Went to the ER and had an ultrasound... there was no heartbeat and the baby was only about 8 weeks along. Definitely call your doctor if you notice spotting. Unfortunately, if it is a miscarriage there's not anything that can be done, but it's at least good to know what's going on. it's Tuesday now and I'm still feeling the blow. This was my first pregnancy. I know I want to try for another one in the future but don't know when I'll be ready. :( Best of luck to all of you, I hope your stories end up happier than mine.

Q&A: Spotting during the 1st trimester?

I am a little over 5 weeks with my first pregnancy, and I've been spotting intermittently for over a week. The first time I noticed was when I expected my period, and the next day, nothing, so the FOLLOWING day I took a pregnancy test and it was positive. Since then, I've continued with the spotting (brown in color). After reading a lot about implantation bleeding, I was reassured that this could be normal, however I was still concerned that I've been spotting for over a week. Yesterday I called the OB office and had my blood drawn to check my hCG level, but I haven't heard back yet about the results. I won't have my first appointment for almost 3 weeks from now, and I'm so anxious! I really want to talk to the doctor! I'm still assuring myself everything's okay, and I'm staying calm. I just hate waiting though. Side note: I think I experienced my first day of morning sickness today...perhaps that's a good (albeit unwelcome :P) sign? I hope all of you are well. :)
