Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I’m six weeks pregnant, and still in that “worry” zone. If I were to have a miscarriage, how would I know?

Re: I’m six weeks pregnant, and still in that “worry” zone. If I were to have a miscarriage, how would I know?

The Bump Expert

Signs Of Miscarriage

It’s perfectly normal to worry, but keep in mind that most pregnancies end with a healthy, happy baby -- not a miscarriage. That said, if you do experience a miscarriage, the first sign is usually vaginal bleeding -- it can be light or heavy, and constant or irregular. If you see blood, though, don’t panic -- just call your doctor. Sometimes, women spot as the embryo implants itself in the uterine wall.

Other signs include pelvic cramps, abdominal pain and lower back pain. No two miscarriage experiences are exactly the same, though, so it’s tough to self diagnose. If you have any symptoms or questions, contact your doctor. And if a miscarriage does occur, know that it’s not your fault. Contrary to what you may have heard, too much sex, exercise or time spent in front of the computer cannot cause a miscarriage.

re: Q: Signs of Miscarriage?

No cramping, but yesterday and today I had a "smear" of brown blood. I am about 6-7 weeks. My doctor said becaue it is brown and no cramps - I am fine. But what is causing the brown blood?

re: Q: Signs of Miscarriage?

I am in the process of miscarrying. I had bleeding like a period. I went to the doctor and they said the only way to tell for sure is by checking my HCG levels. So, they are going down and that is the way to confirm it. I am 6 1/2 weeks.

re: Q: Signs of Miscarriage?

I'm 8 weeks my HCG's have been very low. I'm to have an ultrasound on Monday, than we will go from there. But It looks like I'm going to have to get a DNC done in the next week or so.

re: Q: Signs of miscarriage?

I'm currently in my 7th week, and I've been bleeding on and off for about two. I thought for sure that I was miscarrying, but I've had two ultrasounds and the baby's heart rate is strong (148 bmp!). I have what's called a subchorionic tear, and I'm just writing to let people know that bleeding during pregnancy, while not ideal of course (seriously, this is supposed to be our time off!) :) doesn't always mean a miscarriage as I thought only two weeks ago. I'm still nervous about whether or not things will go well, but I'm just trying to be comforted by the fact that I'm totally not in control of this situation and therefore there's nothing I can do to cause or prevent it. Strangely enough that is comforting to me.

re: Q: Signs of miscarriage?

I had brown bleeding at week 12 with no cramping at all. Went to the hospital and found out that the baby stopped growing at week 8. I had to have a D and C done.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

all you can do is call your doctor and request an appt (even if you have one scheduled later). Peace of mind is key. I am 11 weeks, I woke up this morning at 4am to go to the restroom and I was bleeding with blood clots. It freaked me out of course. I didn't get to see my doctor until 9:30, each time I went to the restroom I was bleeding. He gave me an ultra sound and said everything was fine. I was scheduled to see him a week from today so we just reschedule for 4 weeks out. I was bleeding due to sex he stated. He said I may bleed for up to 5 days. I can't have sex again until I stop bleeding and he suggested we use good lube products. It's now 3:30pm, I'm still finding blood when I go to the bathroom and even clots here and there. Good luck to everyone, I think the best thing to do is just to see your doctor for advice. No pregnancy is alike and you can't compare to others experiences.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I am at the end of my 5th wk. I had experienced some "cramping" this past monday (the same day I found out I was pregnant) and thought it was because I was just realllly gassy. They only lasted a fewminutes each time. I am in constant worry that before I get to my first Dr. app't I am going to miscarry. I do not think I have anything to worry about as I did not have any bleeding at all nor any more "cramping" since, I just cannot wait to see my Dr. and see what she says is going on. The suspence is killing me here... Good luck to you ladies. I will write back once I find out in two weeks :)

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I have had a chemical pregnancy and a miscarriage at 11 weeks within the last year. I found out a week ago I was pregnant for the 3rd time in over a year. I have been having some cramping over the last few days and now I am worried I could be miscarrying again. I went to the doctor today and they told me I had a bladder infection. That's about all they could tell me because I had to visit a walk in clinic. Do you think they're right or could it be another miscarriage???

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I am a little over 12 weeks and I have started spotting yesterday and it is ongoing today. Called my DR and they said that it was normal but to watch over the next few days. If it gets worse they will do an ultrasound. Fingers crossed.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

TO EASE YOUR WORRIES: This my first pregnancy and I know only a little of what to expect from what I read. I had been having all the symptoms: Nausea, fatigue, sore breasts etc. Then last week, my 7th week, it ALL went away. I felt great. Then I felt scared. To make matters worse I starting spotting, brown discharge for a few hours on Tuesday then all day Friday into Saturday. After reading most of these posts, I, of course, I fully decided that I had lost the baby. I was about a minute away from going on a drinking bender, but instead I opted to eat a whole bag of potato chips so my husband would think I was too fat to ever impregnate again. On the following Monday, I called my doc (I was scheduled for my first appt on Wednesday). She asked me to come in THAT day. Of course, that just heightened my fear. But she checked everything out, said that it all looked normal- the lack of symptoms was just a normal fluctuation in my hormones, the spotting could have been my placenta separating a little bit. She said that if it were a miscarriage it would most likely be associated with BRIGHT red blood and cramping. She warned me that she was "cautiously optimistic" and wanted to "confirm the vitality" of the pregnancy with an ultrasound. So she scheduled me for an ultrasound. On Wednesday, for the first time we got to see out little limabean! and its glorious little heartbeat (167beats/min). I know I am not "out of the woods yet" but that certainly put my mind at ease. And she was definitely right about the fluctuating hormones though- my morning sickness is definitely back this week!

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

hi. i was supposedly 9wks pregnant when i had my first ultrasound, but before that i had at least 4 accounts of spotting (3 brown, 1 fresh). the doctor said that my baby has the size of a 5wk-6day baby and has no heartbeat. i was asked to have complete bedrest for two weeks and then get another ultrasound. i really hope my baby develops by that time. i hope all goes well.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I recently had a miscarriage May 2011, I had no signs what so ever! I just started spotting very light... when I went to the bathroom there was a light pink on the toilet paper... went to the Dr. the next day for ultrasound and there was no heartbeat.. I am now 5 weeks pregnant, and I am worried about every cramp, etc... I think it is normal... I just have to relax and give it to God.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I had a miscarriage at 18 weeks (yes, second trimester) and was 2 weeks shy of being classified as a stillbirth. I went in for the full anatomy sonogram to find out if we were having a boy or girl and instead found out our baby no longer had a heartbeat. I had absolutely NO signs so it was termed a "missed miscarriage". Even if you think you're in the clear, you never really are. It's all a "worry" zone until you're holding your squirming baby in your arms.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I'm about six weeks along and have been spotting for almost a week now, sometimes brown, sometimes red. I had cramps, VERY low grade, since even before we found out I was pregnant. I went to the hospital and the did an ultrasound and blood work, said that my hormone levels were perfect, and the baby was the perfect size and shape, just no heart beat yet. I made an appointment with the doc, but I'm on bed rest "take it easy" until then ( my job is very physically demanding, so the time off work is kinda nice), which is four days. I've miscarried before, and it was the single most painful experience of my life, both physically and mentally, I'm so afraid it will happen again, but my significant other tells me to relax. I have one more day of bed rest until I find out, and I'm scared. Keep everyone posted.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

Im 4weeks and have had light bleeding for 4 days. The nurse told me my hcg level was only a 46 and with the bleeding I was miss carrying. I went to the doctor today she said my levels tripled 251 and my cervix was just irriated. Everything is just fine. The doctor put me on progestrone and scheduled a ultra sound in two weeks. Drink lots of water take your prenatals and stay come everything will be fine

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I'm 17 & I'm 9 weeks & 4 days. I never told my parents that I was pregnant cause I thought it would break their hearts. Im currently going through a miscarriage. I've been spotting since Saturday (today is Wednesday) but on Monday & Tuesday it started getting heavier. Today when I got home I started cramping like period cramps so I went to the bathroom & started pushing & this tissue like stuff was coming out of me! I read online that it takes time for the miscarriage to go all the way through so now I'm just waiting for the embryo sac with the baby to come out. I'm still not sure what to do at this point.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I am scared because my symptoms seem to be gone. I don't have an appointment until the end of the month. This is my first pregnancy but I don't want to miscarry. I hate how anything can happen before my first real appointment...

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

Im not exactly sure how far along I am... They think about 7 weeks an im thinking about 5... Well all my tests showed real lightly then about 4 days later I found some light spotting for a full day. I went to the er in a panic so they took blood and tested my HCG, they said it was low which could mean im right about how far along I am or that I could be miscarrying... So I have to go back and see on Monday and its only Saturday this suck so bad.. I had stopped the light spotting, i did have a lil cramps with that, but that has also stopped. And i have no back pain no stomach pain but I am still freaking out :( I will let you know.. But what other symptoms are there or what else could this be???????????? Please help, I am ready for my baby #2.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

i will be ten weeks tuesday (two days time), am going for my 1st scan (in UK where you normally dont have a first scan until wk 12 -13) because i had very very light brown spotting for 5 days followed by some bright red 2 days ago, followed by more red and a clot today. i also had period like cramps, and braxton hicks type cramps where i could feel my uterus clenching in waves every 2-3 minutes. i also have bad lower back pain when i stand or sit, so have effectively been confined to bed. i have a feeling that when i go for the scan they will tell me there's no heartbeat and it stopped growing. i'm expecting and preparing myself for the worse, but of course, still holding out some hope for the best... what a mind f*ck this whole pregnancy lark can be!

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

So sad to read about those of you who've experienced a loss. I have miscarried twice, the first around 7 1/2 weeks, which I knew because I had dark bleeding and painful cramping. Ultrasound showed very slow heartbeat, and I was given pain meds and sent home to wait for it to complete, which took a couple days. It was awful. I went on to have one healthy baby, but last year got pregnant again only to have a missed miscarriage. I went for my routine 10 week ultrasound and was told the gestational sac measured around six weeks, no heartbeat. Had to wait a full week for another u/s but I knew my baby hadn't survived, and a week later I was given misoprostol to induce bleeding. I cannot recommend this treatment. I ended up in the ER hemorrhaging and had an emergency D&C in the middle of the night. Talk about traumatic. I am six weeks pregnant again, and I would give anything to feel joyous, but I worry every single day. The receptionist at my OB office was less than compassionate when I asked if she could schedule my first appointment early, even though my doctor promised me she would see me sooner after what happened last time. I will be letting the doc know this when I finally get to see her next month!
