Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

I’m six weeks pregnant, and still in that “worry” zone. If I were to have a miscarriage, how would I know?

Re: I’m six weeks pregnant, and still in that “worry” zone. If I were to have a miscarriage, how would I know?

The Bump Expert

It’s perfectly normal to worry, but keep in mind that most pregnancies end with a healthy, happy baby -- not a miscarriage. That said, if you do experience a miscarriage, the first sign is usually vaginal bleeding -- it can be light or heavy, and constant or irregular. If you see blood, though, don’t panic -- just call your doc. Sometimes, women spot as the embryo implants itself in the uterine wall.

Other signs include pelvic cramps, abdominal pain and lower back pain. No two miscarriage experiences are exactly the same, though, so it’s tough to self diagnose. If you have any symptoms or question, contact your doctor. And if a miscarriage does occur, know that it’s not your fault. Contrary to what you may have heard, too much sex, exercise or time spent in front of the computer cannot cause a miscarriage.

i've been having upper abdominal pain and lower back cramps for the past few weeks..its still a few days till i cant take a test but we're hoping for a baby. can this mean i miscarried if i don't bleed or haven't yet?

re: Q: Signs of Miscarriage?

No cramping, but yesterday and today I had a "smear" of brown blood. I am about 6-7 weeks. My doctor said becaue it is brown and no cramps - I am fine. But what is causing the brown blood?

re: Q: Signs of Miscarriage?

I am in the process of miscarrying. I had bleeding like a period. I went to the doctor and they said the only way to tell for sure is by checking my HCG levels. So, they are going down and that is the way to confirm it. I am 6 1/2 weeks.

re: Q: Signs of Miscarriage?

I'm 8 weeks my HCG's have been very low. I'm to have an ultrasound on Monday, than we will go from there. But It looks like I'm going to have to get a DNC done in the next week or so.

re: Q: Signs of miscarriage?

I'm currently in my 7th week, and I've been bleeding on and off for about two. I thought for sure that I was miscarrying, but I've had two ultrasounds and the baby's heart rate is strong (148 bmp!). I have what's called a subchorionic tear, and I'm just writing to let people know that bleeding during pregnancy, while not ideal of course (seriously, this is supposed to be our time off!) :) doesn't always mean a miscarriage as I thought only two weeks ago. I'm still nervous about whether or not things will go well, but I'm just trying to be comforted by the fact that I'm totally not in control of this situation and therefore there's nothing I can do to cause or prevent it. Strangely enough that is comforting to me.

I have been having lower back pain too just now and then... Is this a part of being prego? Or is something wrong?

re: Q: Signs of miscarriage?

I had brown bleeding at week 12 with no cramping at all. Went to the hospital and found out that the baby stopped growing at week 8. I had to have a D and C done.

Q&A: Signs of a miscarriage?

all you can do is call your doctor and request an appt (even if you have one scheduled later). Peace of mind is key. I am 11 weeks, I woke up this morning at 4am to go to the restroom and I was bleeding with blood clots. It freaked me out of course. I didn't get to see my doctor until 9:30, each time I went to the restroom I was bleeding. He gave me an ultra sound and said everything was fine. I was scheduled to see him a week from today so we just reschedule for 4 weeks out. I was bleeding due to sex he stated. He said I may bleed for up to 5 days. I can't have sex again until I stop bleeding and he suggested we use good lube products. It's now 3:30pm, I'm still finding blood when I go to the bathroom and even clots here and there. Good luck to everyone, I think the best thing to do is just to see your doctor for advice. No pregnancy is alike and you can't compare to others experiences.
