Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

Why am I peeing so much, and is there any way to cut down on how many times I pee during the day? It's driving me crazy!

Re: Why am I peeing so much, and is there any way to cut down on how many times I pee during the day? It's driving me crazy!

The Bump Expert

There are a few reasons behind your steady stream. For one thing, the hormone hCG triggers an increase in blood flow to the pelvic area, causing you to make more pee. In addition, the efficiency of the kidneys improves during pregnancy, so your body gets rid of waste products (i.e. pee) more quickly. And let's not forget your growing uterus, which puts increasing pressure on your bladder as it gets bigger. (And bigger!)

The good news is, this pressure lifts once the uterus rises into your abdominal cavity in the second trimester. Until then, be sure to lean forward when you pee to completely empty your bladder, which might cut back on trips to the WC. But don’t stop downing the liquids -- your body needs them.

Wait until you actually feel the baby kicking your bladder... That makes having to pee all the more interesting!

Make sure that if you're having to go really often and have an uncomfortable feeling in your lower abdomen that you get it checked out. It might be a UTI which is common in pregnant women. I was just having to go pee a lot and everything felt fine...then I started to feel uncomfortable and low and behold, a UTI. Pay attention to your bodies, ladies!!!

I can't stop peeing either...seems like every 15mins I'm in the bathroom. Trying to sleep at night is the worst! I'm about to move into the bathroom, sleep on the toilet...and & bring my pillow to rest my head on the counter lol! It's making my nausea worse bc I'm sooo tired all the time fromt not sleeping ...aye yi yi lol

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

I am there with you all. I am 6 weeks and pee like crazy already. I was told that by stopping liquid fluids after 7 pm and drinking either a glass of milk or smooties before bed helps not going so frequently at night. :) It cut my trip to the potty from 3 times a night (not including the before bed pee and morning pee) to once. Peeing every hour is sooo much fun (being sarcastic) cant wait to see what it will be like when the baby is actually pressing on the bladder. I am just thankful it says that it is normal to be peeing this much due to the kidneys flushing all the bad stuff out!

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

I never would have guessed I would already be up 6-8 times a night having to pee and only in my 7th week. It's crazy! And I'm so thirsty it's hard not to drink. My mom say's it's God preparing us for the 2 hour feedings once the baby comes. I can't imagine over a year of little to no sleep. Ugh...

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

My mom has always said that getting up to go to the bathroom so often in the middle of the night was God's way of preparing you for having to get up that often with the baby! Makes me feel better when I get up 4-5 times!

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

I've started noticing that I have to pee more. Almost 8 weeks along, and I'm suprised. I thought it would be a lot longer until it started. Havent' been woken up in the middle of the night yet though.

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

I had to pee quite a bit in my first trimester, in my second it didn't seem so bad, but now that I am 29 weeks and in my 3rd trimester, I am constantly in the bathroom!! I have to wait to pee often times because if I don't, I would be in there every 5 - 10 minutes with little results. So I wait a bit or wait until he kicks my bladder so that I don't have a choice. LOL! I sneezed the other day. I think it scared him and he jumped, landed on my bladder, and I didn't think I was going to make it to the bathroom! I had to hand over a customers order to finish being filled to another employee so that I could make it on time. Which was barely on time. LOL

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

I have to pee at least once an hour now in my 29th week. I have to consciously remember to pee before I leave any place with a bathroom or a decent bathroom. Otherwise I have to pee like a racehorse in some nasty place with a disgusting bathroom

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

I'm 29 weeks and feel like I spend half of my life in the bathroom these days. This whole story that it gets better in the second trimester is total BS too - don't believe it!

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

I thought for sure I had it rough when I had to start wearing a pantyliner as I approached my third trimester. I'm now 29 weeks and came down with a nasty cough just in time for the holidays. Every time I have a coughing spell I leak... Even if I JUST used the bathroom. Sneezing does it too. The only thing that could possibly help is Kegals, or overactive bladder surgery. I've increased my fluid intake to try and beat this cold sooner... but that means even more trips to the potty. I've stocked up on my panty liners, and can't wait til my cold is gone. Baby doesn't like the coughing either. :(

I'm 29 wks and it's getting worse. I teach and I cant leave my class to go as the pressure hits. Is it possible to take a medical leave on those terms?

Q&A: Pregnant and can't stop peeing?

Hi, I'm 29 weeks and i pee every 5 -10 min during the day and every hour to 2 hours during the night. I should be used to it by now but it's still annoying : / even so i still drink lots of water which everyone should do to stay hydrated. Good luck and God bless to all pregnant ladies : )
