Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

My boobs hurt, my skin’s weird and I’m sweating like a pig. Is this all from hormones? What other strange stuff do they cause?

Re: My boobs hurt, my skin’s weird and I’m sweating like a pig. Is this all from hormones? What other strange stuff do they cause?

The Bump Expert

You’re right -- this is hormones, doing their thing. And, they're the culprits behind morning sickness, mood swings, fatigue, vision changes, sinus congestion and postnasal drip. Oh yeah, hormones also affect your hair and nails, and contribute to heartburn, constipation and that incessant need to pee. Try to look on the bright side: These very same hormones are making your uterus the perfect home for growing baby, and will help your muscles relax during delivery. And remember -- these strange symptoms will eventually subside, and your little darling will make all you endured well worth it.

re: Q: Hormone Basics?

I am just a few weeks and I have very oily skin, oily hair, and I am the biggest grouch I have ever been. I am waiting for my mood to swing back the other way!

re: Q: Hormone Basics?

Aside from the 'morning' sickness and at least dozen pimples that have popped up on my face in the last week, I burst into tears while playing Risk with my partner tonight (in my defense, he had driven my troops completely out of South America, but normally I just throw a phony tantrum and get on with it). And I smell like I didn't even put on deodorant, starting about an hour after a shower! Is that normal, too? I never had that problem with my now three year-old.

re: Q: Why Do My Boobs Hurt?

how soon after conception can they start hurting? a few days, a week?

EmilyE | September 15 , 2007 7:47 PM

re: Q: Why Do My Boobs Hurt?

Mine didn't start hurting until my 5th week and even then it was just a mild ache. Now they hurt with everything I do... especially working out. Oh boy... that's not a fun one!

re: Q: Why Do My Boobs Hurt?

my boobs were my first indicator literally a week before my missed period my nipples were just raw. and yes, the acne is a pain. My dh doesnt think it is related but I know differently

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

My boobs hurt like crazy, and my lower back aches all the time. I had never heard about the sinus congestion, but that would explain my sinus infection when there was nothing else to trigger it! I had to bear it completely; didn't want to take any medication.

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

My boobs became sore suddenly yesterday...today I woke with a couple of pimples. Yesterday, the nausea hit like a Mac Truck. BUT...it is all a good sign that things are going right!

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

I've been throwing up for 3 weeks, which I can deal with (to a point) but now I'm getting hot flashes. I woke up last night soaked three different times, all I can say is yuck. My docs at work say it's a good sign my hormone levels are probably really high & I think they have a bet on when I'll beg for antinausea meds, but it will go away....soon I hope. I won't even comment on the boobs they're driving me KNUTZ.

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

I was concerned at first because my boobs weren't sore at all... and my mom kept telling me they should be... but fear not they do now and I am only 6 1/2 weeks along. I only get really bad nausea after taking a shower. and I have never had acne in my life till now! And what is with the light sleeping? I wake up at almost any thing now.

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

Mine went from a D to a DD overnight and ladies, that is not something to be envious about. It is aweful! I've had to restrict my work outs to the bike

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

I am 5 weeks pregnant and my boobs are killing me!! That's how I found out I was pregnant. I was a size D and now I am starting to go into a DD and I have only 5 weeks!! It's awful .. In the middle of the night I wake up with back pain .. I am hoping this will stop when I enter into the 2nd trimester!! I don't know if this is happening to anyone else but, I am really cranky before lunch and then after I eat lunch I am so happy..

mtonevski | April 02 , 2009 1:07 PM

Grouchy? Check. Boobs hurt? A little.

Buy why is my heart racing and I'm short of breath? This was my first indicator besides the constant need to pee. I am 5 weeks along.

ldubos1 | April 15 , 2009 3:39 AM

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

My boobs hurt a lot in the beginning (before I knew I was preggers), now they're not so bad and I'm at 6 weeks. The heart burn and acid reflux, though, just may be the death of me. I even went to the ER the other night because I've never had heartburn in my life, and thought that I was losing the baby. The dr's at the ER and my OBGYN told me everything was good and normal... but let me tell you when I'm in pain enough that Morphine isn't working, there's something wrong. Now, I'm definitely afraid to give birth...

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

I'm 17 weeks and my boobies haven't hurt since the first 6 weeks or so.

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

I'm 6 weeks today and the boobs haven't hurt in a few days, they were really sore and painful from weeks 4 to 5. I'm getting few pimples here and there. The nausea is still terrible, only vomited for a few days fortunately. Going to the OB on the 16th, which will be 7 weeks, so we will see what he says!

re: Q: Why do my boobs hurt?

I just new I was pregnant because my boobs hurt so bad. It comes and goes now though, I am either in my 6th week or 7th, I am not sure. I have to wait for my first appointment and it's killing me. Haven't noticed acne yet though and I have major stomach/bathroom issue...nausea off on and on but thankfully no puking yet! Really can't wait till the 1st appointment!

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

I am 6 weeks today. My boobs are sore, I've broken out all around my chin and close to my mouth and I have been crying and feeling sad for no reason. Only the sadness has been worrying me...with a history of depression its hard to sort out the normal pregnancy hormones from the potential of relapse. At least its not constant.

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

I was worried that I was developing bronchitis again because of the chest and head congestion! Good to know it's all part of the process. (BTW, my boobs have been incredibly painful since the day I missed my period! I'm 7 weeks now and there's no letup in the boob pain.)

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

Sore boobs were a clear sign after a hormonal imbalance with no periods. Just bought five of the prettiest bras ever and now not one fits. Not one. Well except the one that was too bigh in the cups.

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

My nipples started hurting so bad and now my right boob is sore, more than the left. I am already a cup size F or G so lord please have mercy on me. Anyone know of good bras for extremely busy ladies?

scomfort78_98 | September 03 , 2009 11:58 PM

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

My nipples hurt too but guess I'm coping. My shirts don't seem to fit anymore so I'm definitely going shopping. Is it true though that one needs to wear a bra to bed at some point when pregnant, if so when should that be?

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

TO MLVOGL: My doctor told me not to use the excercise bike because of the bending at the stomach and the natural tensing of the abs that you will do. maybe you ahould ask your doc. I came down with a cold the day before I found out I was pregnant, woke up with 4 zits on my chin the day after I found out, and had back acne for about 2 weeks before I found out. My boobs started swelling up pretty much right after I found out. No vomiting yet, but definitely queezy. So I guess most the symptoms start around 5 weeks because thats when I found out.

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

I am in my 6th week and my boobs just started hurting. No morning sickness... yet. I also have been getting the bad lower back pain, especially in the morning after a restless night sleep. Glad to see I'm up to par with everyone else!

Elle4481 | December 28 , 2009 9:27 AM

Q&A: Pregnancy symptoms caused by hormones?

I have been super fortunate. I'm 6 weeks today, my boobs are a little sore, but nothing more than they were with normal period symptoms, but they aren't swelling yet, which is good because I'm already a "D" cup and only 5'3". I've had very slight acid reflux, and a little naseau that goes away if I'll eat something small...like bagel with peanut butter. The only thing that has been constant and really kept me from thinking I was pregnant were the cramps. There again, they're no more than I'd get with my period. So, all in all, I'm really not having many sypmtoms yet. Well, I am pretty worn out at the end of the day, and the last 2 nights I am ravenous before dinner and then once I sit down with the plate in front of me, I'm not hungry at all. weird....
