Q&A: How long is each trimester?

When exactly does each trimester begin and end?

Re: When exactly does each trimester begin and end?

The Bump Expert

If you’ve tried searching the web to find out when each trimester begins and ends, you’ve probably noticed that there are many answers to this question. Different practitioners may use different markers to determine the start and end dates of each trimester. Some just break it up into three chunks of 13 weeks, but most add on an extra week for a grand total of 40 weeks of pregnancy. Here’s the most common breakdown:

First Trimester: Starts with the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) and ends with the last day of the 13th week thereafter. During your last period (which will be your last for a while), your uterus is preparing for ovulation and your body is gearing up for pregnancy, so technically, you can start counting from this point.

Second Trimester: Starts at the beginning of the 14th week after your LMP and lasts through the 27th week of pregnancy.

Third Trimester: Starts at the beginning of the 28th week after your LMP and ends with labor.

Q: When does morning sickness go away?!

When does morning sickness start to go away or does it ever go away?

| April 27 , 2009 10:47 AM

re: Q: How long is each trimester?

Morning sickness, generally speaking, goes away after the first trimester. I'm at 23 weeks right now and I feel pretty great on that front. Be warned though, I've been told that goodness only lasts through the second trimester. After that, the first trimester "nasties" (as my doctor referred to them) return with a vengence.

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

If each trimester was 2 months, you would only be pregnant a total of 6 months.

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

I didn't have to deal with morning sickness either which was really nice. I am however occasionally getting heartburn but when they say you start feeling nasty again in your third trimester thats not true. I can say that you become tired again but as far as feeling morning sickness and all that no. However i have had a good pregnancy with no sickness and i have felt great throughout the pregnancy and i am 34 weeks. I excercise though too so that might be helpful if you feel crappy try walking 4 days out of the week.

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

my morning sickness hasn't gone away- im due oct 13 but my doctor gave a pretty good anti nausea pill to help with it- each trimester is about 3 months. i will be so glad when labor pain hits- it will be the end of a horrible pregnancy- i even had to stop working due to the sickness- hope everyone else is doing ok.

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

I had morning sickness from 5 weeks until about the beginning of the fourth month. My mom had no sickness when she was pregnant with me, but with my sister she was sick throughought her entire pregnancy up until the day she gave birth. So for this question there is no set time limit.

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

I was always told each trimester is 13 weeks. As for morning sicknes, I'm 13 weeks, 4 days and throw up just about everything I eat. I've lost 15 pounds but I was about 10 pounds overweight when I got pregnant. I exercise to stay in shape but nothing intense. Walking to olong makes me dizzy and nauseaous. Also I've started seeing "white lights" like floaters when I throw up...anyone have that?

Jesstastic | January 16 , 2011 1:10 PM

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

Hi Jesstastic, yes I have the "white lights" when I throw up. I believe that is just from your electolytes being imbalanced when you throw up. This is my 3rd pregnancy. I was very sick with my daughter, had severe hyperemesis with my son, and like you lost 15-20 pounds in a couple months. This pregnancy is not too bad as far as vomiting goes, just sooooooo nauseated that I can barely stand it. I wouldn't be too concerned about the white lights, unless you are unable to drink barely anything ( had to go get an IV last night), or you feel very weak, or dehydrated. I can't wait to be done with this pregnancy, I am only 8 weeks and it allready feels like I have been pregnant so long!

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

Luckily I've never experienced morning sickness but I have experienced motion sickness and heartburn. *A glass of almond milk seems to do the trick to rid myself of heartburn discomfort.* As for the motion sickness, I open the window, if I'm in a car or put my head down. DH and I were on a boat towards the end of my 1st trimester and it was an awful ride, even with my head down. I felt everything moving for the rest of the day and night after that hour and half boat ride.

Q&A: How long is each trimester?

If your doctor hasn't mentioned the following topics during your visits, he or she isn't purposefully omitting the information. More likely, your doctor hasn't brought them up because pregnancy affects women in different ways.-Any Lab Test Now
