Q&A: How early can I tell if I'm having multiples?

How early can my doctor tell me if I'm having multiples?

Re: How early can my doctor tell me if I'm having multiples?

The Bump Expert

Even though multiples are formed between 4 and 10 days after conception (when more than one egg is fertilized or one embryo randomly splits), you probably won’t learn that you’re having twins until your first ultrasound appointment (around 10 weeks) when the tech yells, "It's twins!" As a newly minted mom of multiples, this will only be the first of many surprises you’ll experience, so try not to fall off the table. You might be able to sense for yourself that you’re having more than one baby, even before that first ultrasound. (One big hint: Your belly’s growing faster than average.) Either way, you won’t have to wait long before you'll know to start doubling up on baby supplies.

Q&A: How early can I tell if I'm having multiples?

I was 6 weeks along. I did fertility treatment so they did an ultra sound earlier then usual. Also, if your HCG levels are higher than normal, the doctor may suspect.

Q&A: How early can I tell if I'm having multiples?

I was 5.5 weeks along at my first ultrasound and they told me there was a possibility of twins. I had a second US at 7.5 weeks and they confirmed twins (and heartbeats). Both babies have strong heartbeats and relatively equal in size.

Q&A: How early can I tell if I'm having multiples?

I was 5.3 weeks with my first ultrasound when they found out it was twins. my HCG levels were tripling every 2 days, so the doctor highly suspected multiples.

Q&A: How early can I tell if I'm having multiples?

Today was my first US at 5.5 weeks, and they saw 2 "yolk sacks". I go back in a week or two to check again and listen for the heartbeats. Scared out of my mind, but excited!

Q&A: How early can I tell if I'm having multiples?

I went in last week for a STAT ultrasound to figure out why I was having such bad cramping. I found out then I was 5 weeks along, and they spotted "possibly" two fetal poles. I have come to hate the word "possibly" in the week since then, I want to know how sure they are! First prenatal visit is on Feb. 11, so hopefully we'll find out then.

Q&A: How early can I tell if I'm having multiples?

I'm 15 weeks. My first ultrasound was a few days after...i feel like im bigger then i should be for only being 15 weeks, but the doc says im only having 1. However, the doctor is not my usual doctor- me and my fiance were visiting family in another state when i started cramping really bad- when the doc found out i wasnt returning for my prenatal care he seemed to lose interest in helping me at all. Is it possible i could still be having twins and the doc just missed it?
