Q&A: Decrease amnio/CVS miscarriage risk?

We've decided to go through with prenatal diagnostic testing. Is there any way I can decrease the risk of miscarriage?

The Bump Expert

Definitely. First, make sure you’re working with an experienced provider. If you’re referred to a specialist or a testing center, ask about their procedure-related miscarriage rate and how many tests they perform yearly (we recommend finding someone who does fifty or more). Make sure the ultrasound technician is also experienced -- this reduces the risk of injury in amniocentesis, and increases the chances that a sample will be obtained on the first attempt.
