In general, emergency c-sections are called for if anything happens to put you or baby in danger, like a prolapsed cord (umbilical cord coming out ahead of baby), placental abruption (the placenta starts coming loose, causing you and baby to loose blood), a breech presentation (baby isn’t head-down for delivery), or fetal distress.
