Can I Take a Bath After My Water Breaks?

Is it still okay for me to take a bath after my water has broken?

The Bump Expert

There are different opinions on this one (some experts worry about risk of infection), so ask your OB or midwife to be sure. Once your water breaks, you shouldn’t really do anything without running it by your doctor first. In fact, she'll probably want you to call as soon as the amniotic sac springs a leak, and will probably ask you to come on in to the hospital, at least in the next few hours.

Can I Take a Bath After My Water Breaks?

If my wife's water broke, I would immediately take her to the hospital. I believe if she were to go into the bathroom after this happened, then she would admire the bathroom vanities we've just bought. No, I'm kidding, I would be very concerned about her and the baby's health.

If your asking if you can bathe while in labor with midwife or doctor there, sure, absolutely it is safe. Women have water births all the time anymore and its due to the fact that the water is relaxing and can help your labor along. It wouldnt however be safe to do this at home for the reasons mentioned. With out a health care professional there or their permission you can set yourself up for a situation that your not prepared to take on, like delivering your own child at home in your tub!
