Molly Sims and baby Brooks

Molly Sims Reveals: She Doesn’t Get Sleep Either!

She’s a successful model and actress, but it’s clear to us that Molly Sims’ favorite and most important job is mom. Here, she opens up about separation anxiety (hers!), the best and worst parenting advice she’s heard, and the fun plans she has for her and her son Brooks’ combo birthday bash. (Can we come?)

The Bump: There’s a moment every mom experiences when we realize, “Holy crap, I’m really a mom!” What was your moment?

Molly Sims: I’ll never forget; I was leaving for Cabo to spend the weekend with some of my best friends to celebrate a birthday -- Brooks was about seven months old -- and while I was saying goodbye to him, I swear to you, I just started bawling! I couldn’t leave. My husband literally had to pry my hands away from him and convince me it was okay to leave for two days. That was when I knew, Oh my god, I’m really a mom now! I had this great weekend ahead of me, and all I could think about was getting back home to him!

TB: Who is your mommy inspiration -- any Hollywood moms that you look up to?

MS: I look up to moms like Jessica Alba, who makes it look effortless; Angelina Jolie, who is superhuman; and my mom, who inspires me every day.

TB: What’s your favorite part about being a mom? Anything you miss?

MS: I have many accomplishments in my life, but being a mom is hands-down the thing that makes me most proud! I love watching Brooks grow up! He’s funny, he’s curious about everything, he’s learning to say things…he’s so much fun to be around! But, the one thing I miss? Sleep. Anything over five hours is heaven.

TB: What has been the best advice you received? The worst?

MS: The best advice I received was that every child is different, and although it’s helpful to read up and be as knowledgeable as you can to prepare for motherhood, you are never truly "prepared." You’re constantly thrown curve balls that aren’t written in any book. So be open, be flexible. Do the very best you can do, and everything will fall into place. The worst advice I’ve received is to download that app that tells you what your baby needs by the way it cries. Not helpful technology.

TB: Brooks is almost one! Any birthday plans?

MS: My birthday and Brooks’ birthday are around the same time. He’s turning one and I’m… not turning 1… so we’re combining parties! It’s the perfect excuse to have everyone over. Melissa Green is singing songs for the kids. There will be plenty of cake, ice cream, snacks, balloons, and of course, some adult beverages.

TB: How are you involved with the charity Baby2Baby, and what made you want to get involved?

MS: Baby2Baby is an amazing organization! They help thousands of children and families in need every year by providing them with things like diapers, car seats and clothes. And Huggies Every Little Bottom program is giving Baby2Baby one million diapers this year. I knew I had to become involved because no child should be without these basic necessities. We have to do whatever we can to help -- and Baby2Baby is doing just that.
