Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

When should I have my baby shower?

Re:

When should I have my baby shower?

The Bump Expert

We put this one to our users, and it sounds like earlier is better... Here's what you had to say!

“My shower is planned when I will be 35 weeks along, and I would have preferred it much earlier for planning and shopping purposes. We had to pick the date we chose due to everyone going on vacation for Easter and Spring Break. Convenient for everyone but me!” -Hilarycee
“I had my shower at 32 wks. I personally didn't want to wait any longer because I was getting so uncomfortable. You want to be able to enjoy it as well as have the energy to deal with everything afterwards. You will need to wash the clothes, put everything away, and then go shopping for what you still need. Those things take time and energy which we are quickly running out of!” –sannice1979
“I am having my shower at 35 weeks. I think it is a good time, because I still have plenty of time afterwards to buy anything we still need. However this is the latest I would want it. Any later you are almost considered full term and could deliver any minute. I might not have enough time to buy anything I still need.” -alyadams
“I'm having a work shower at 35 weeks and a family shower at 37 weeks. It is later than most, but it's nice to have something to look forward to at this point. Of course we have to have the essentials (car seat, bassinet) on hand in case of early delivery.” -Sarah&JoeinSC
“I'm having my shower the next two weekends!! I'll be 31 and 32 wks. I think it's a good time for me bc I am still able to get around, so I can shop for what I still need and take back what I don't want.” -asned
“A work shower is planned for me tomorrow at nearly 38 weeks and I think this is WAY too late to be having it (I really did try to decline). I am uncomfortable in my own skin right now and I have NO energy come day's end to spend organizing. At this late point in the game, I feel like I could go into labor at any minute and that my thank-you notes will go out really late. I know people will understand, but it's not the way I like to do things!” -MrsFeisty
“My shower is planned for this weekend, when I am 36 (almost 37) weeks. Although it allowed me a good amount of time to add extra items to my registry, I do wish it was just a couple of weeks earlier. At this point I am too big and I tire too easily to prepare and set up all of these items. Although my husband will help, it is overwhelming at this stage. I wish everything was already here and ready for baby. Once all is set up, I still have to purchase, write, and mail thank you cards...all while being able to ‘go’ at anytime.” -tgifhim
“I had my first when i was 28 weeks b/c that was what worked best for my sisters. Honestly, I LOVED having my first -- bigger -- shower early because I've had a lot of time to go through what I got and set it up and get organized. Plus, that was at the beginning of my 3rd trimester when I still had lots of energy. I'm glad I got tons of big stuff at that shower b/c I can't imagine having to set up all the toys and such at 37 weeks. Plus, earlier showers give you more time to search out the good deals and order stuff online that you need but don't get off your registry.” -mamaerin

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im having mine at thirty weeks, they say to have it about your seventh month.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I would stay at least 4 weeks before the baby is due.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

definitely about 2 months out which is 7 months pregnant. Gives you time to prepare and organize, plus you aren't feeling too uncomfortable yet.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

this thread was so helpful. i am pg with my first so i don't think ahead about running out of energy to get things ready and put away. not to mention, i am due in jan, so i don't want to have to deal with anything during christmas time! thanks for the advice. looks like november is the best option for me :)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We are having our baby shower Oct 10th I'll be 7and half months I hope I will still be able to enjoy it but it is the only date we could come up with to fit in with every ones schedules

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am due 3 weeks after Christmas so i am having one at 29 weeks and one at 31 weeks. This is 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. I want to have all of that done before the holidays. The holidays are stressful enough.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

i'll be 38w2d when i have mine and i'm already 2cm dialated and 50% efaced so i really could go at anytime, but i have to wait until next weekend and pray he stays in till then...

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I was asked at a playgroup (this is our 4th) if I was going to have a baby shower when I was like 15 weeks pregnant & I was so relieved someone was taking an interest (we had just moved here right before we concieved)... Then another mom chimed in w/ "it's way too early to even be discussing a baby shower!!!" Totally deflated :P Anyway, someone did step up & through me a shower at 33 weeks. (I would have prefered 30 or 31) when you are pletny pregnant (big) but still have the energy., My shower was large w/ 15-20 friends, family, etc... But, I had no energy to mingle... I felt terrible for not making each guest feel "special", etc.. Go for 28-30wks if your hostess is willing ;)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We're having ours this weekend, and I'm just over 26 weeks. We wanted to have it early so we know what to save up on-- and get the halloween goodes ahead of time.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

At least one or two months before your due date

LIONELSGIRL | August 16 , 2009 8:20 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Since I am a high risk pregnancy and may possibly have a c-section (it's not scheduled at this time) my mother has decided to throw my baby shower in between 29 to 33 weeks, (about 2 months before my due date). This way I won't be as tired as I will be nearing the end of my pregnancy. Remember the reason people are coming to the baby shower is to see that bump. So you might as well pick a period where you'll have more energy to be able to stay for the full shower.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im 20 weeks preg today (aug 22) and on sept 1 we're going back to the doc to confirm that whether or not we're having a girl (should would hardly show us herself) so after we confirm it I was wanting to have mine when I was about 26 weeks along; we're due in jan and I dont really want to have it later then the first of oct so I've chosen the end of sept; I dont want to get near halloween because then people will start thinking about thanksgiving and christmas....do you think im doing the right thing??

annie882007 | August 22 , 2009 5:43 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

i'm having mine October 10th, i'll be 31 weeks. i planned it this waand my mother and sister (who are throwing it for me) are going to work around my schedule instead. They said it's very important that I feel comfortable, not when can everyone else get together. I know some won't be able to make it because of work, they work at a hospital, but they always send along their gifts with someone else. and Annie, like i said you do it when you feel most comfortable, not when you think it's convenient for others. we'll be playing up a little holloween on my shower, candy corn on the tables with the favors. just to give them something to laugh and conversate about. (i'm big on holloween)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I was wondering the same thing...I am due Feb 5, and I don't want to have to plan anything in the middle of the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year's chaos, but early November seems sooo early... I'm thinking about maybe the very beginning of Dec.? After Thanksgiving, but before most of the Christmas madness... I really don't want to wait until after Christmas/New Year's just in case the baby comes early! Any thoughts???

AmyA210 | August 31 , 2009 3:04 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm hoping to have one of mine in December. I'm due in March, but I live 5 hours from my parents and really don't want to be committed to traveling that far during my third trimester. And January can be really brutal in Ohio.

jkshiffler | September 01 , 2009 7:57 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm due on January 29th, so I had the same thoughts as a lot of you. We decided on November 29th for ours because hopefully i'll still be somewhat comfortable, family will already be in town for Thanksgiving and black friday, and it's before the hectic christmas season. I wasn't sure if this was too early, but it sounds like everyone is saying 7 months in normal...so glad to hear!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My sister and Best Friend threw me a shower AFTER the baby was born. I was a little unsure about it, but it turned out great! We still did all the games, eating and visiting, but also, veryone got to meet our new baby girl!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having my showers at 24 & 25 weeks. I own an accounting firm and I'm already due at the end of tax season (March 24th), which is going to be chaotic. Getting the showers out of the way in early December before the holiday parties works best for me. I'm a total Type A personality and this way the nursery and all shopping can be done before work gets crazy!

KristenJo1 | September 09 , 2009 8:41 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I have decided that a baby shower will be done when we go home for Christmas. I will be around 26 weeks but I don't want to travel 20+ hours in February or March when I am huge as a house and uncomfortable.

mommy_to_two | September 11 , 2009 10:14 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My best friend and sister-in-law are throwing me a shower at Christmas time. I'll be about 6 1/2 months. It seems a little early to me but it's the only time I can do it. I live in NC and friends & family are in MI, where we'll be for Christmas. At least I'll have plenty of time to get the nursery set up, buy the remaining essentials, and wash the clothes.

Supervallie | September 19 , 2009 10:21 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My sister's are throwing me a shower in my 7th month and my cousins are throwing a shower in my 7th month. My sister-in-law is throwing a shower for me after the baby is born at my in-laws since we all dont get back there that often. I think it will be really fun to be able to show my new little one off at the last shower. Also, I will have a better idea of what I still need or need more of.

Laura+Taylor | September 23 , 2009 11:52 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having mine when I'm 25 weeks...yeah, it's a little early, but I'm due in February and living in the mountains. To prevent travel trouble with ice and snow and to avoid the holidays, I'm just having it early in November. It gives everyone a chance to be there (that I really miss!) and me a chance to shop afterwards for stuff I didn't get.

sublime_savvy | September 23 , 2009 1:32 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am 33 weeks now. My birthday is a week from today, and my friends planned a shower 2 weeks from now (i'll be 35 weeks) and my family is planning one for the next weekend. (36 weeks). I think about a month before the due date is a good time, especially for people like me who have NOTHING for their nursery yet and need EVERYTHING. Having two showers will be nice too, hopefully we won't have to buy too much because we're having to buy a car now.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having one at 26weeks, one at 29 weeks, another one at 30weeks, and another one after the baby is born. We had to have them all early due to the holidays

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm not due until mid April, but we live a good 19-22 hours away from home. & Then with my husband in the military, we have no idea when to have a shower! We def don't want it after the baby is born, just because we don't want a ton of people around him or her.. On top of we need stuff for the baby before he is born.

dallas110 | October 27 , 2009 6:52 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm not sure when I am getting mine. I am due Feb. 22nd (atleast that's what the doctor says) and I wanted it before Christmas and New Years. My mom wanted to throw it in January, but I argued that if I went into labor early I wouldn't even have any essentials for him. My sister also argued that if we wait that long people will have no money left because they spent it on their kids for christmas presents and nobody would come as a result. I am hoping that it's within the first weekend or two in December but my mom wants it to be a surprise so who knows when I will get it.

Jena6121984 | October 30 , 2009 11:23 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having my about 4 weeks before my due date. I didn't want it any sooner than that cause most of the bigger items my boyfriend and I are purchasing so we will have all the major items.

kelsey032010 | October 30 , 2009 3:22 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having 4 showers total. I had my 1st shower at 28 weeks, I'm having my 2nd at 29 weeks, 3rd at 33 weeks. And then I have no idea when my last shower is, my SIL's are planning it for sometime in January. I'm due Jan 24th..Hopefully it is BEFORE then!!! I do not want one after he is born.

BellaFiama | November 04 , 2009 7:55 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having a large family shower when I am 26 weeks, as I will be traveling out of state for my shower and am having twins. This works great for us because it leaves time for us to buy what is still needed and while I still feel up to shopping. Plus it is over Thanksgiving weekend so those who normally wouldn't have been able to attend now are coming!

LKHarrison | November 05 , 2009 12:36 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am in the same position as "maegpinn". I live 16 hours from all my and my husbands family members (and he is military as well). We really have no other choice but to have the shower in a few weeks while we are home for the Christmas holiday. I'm worried that it is too soon for a shower though, as I will be about 20 weeks along. Does anyone think that will be too early and will my guests find it weird?

MarissaM. | November 17 , 2009 11:21 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

i'd like to hear more from people who had their baby shower AFTER the baby was born...that's what my sis and mom are considering for a few reasons. some reasons i liked were bc we're holding off on knowing the gender until after birth and also the fact that i live across the country from where they'd be throwing it. it'll give my family and friends a chance to meet the baby at the same time. any one else with input on baby showers after the baby???

lovelykeiki | November 19 , 2009 5:14 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

with my first child we had the baby shower at 38 weeks cause my aunt was in town. I went into labor the next day. With my 2nd child we had his baby shower after he was born that way people could enjoy the baby along with the gifts. I didnt get on with my 3rd child (my first girl) and am hoping to have a baby shower with my 4th but after the baby is born so that everyone will be able to meet the baby.

karenCB | November 21 , 2009 7:00 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

At least 2 months before your due date. You never know what could happen after that!!

JAMIE | November 21 , 2009 4:42 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Misty: I am currently 21 weeks and my mom is planning a baby shower for Janurary. But I think that the end of november or middle of december is the best time, because after thanksgiving is black friday when tons of stuff goes on sale and the people giving gifts can get sum stuff cheaper priced for a december shower, plus why not have it around a special day anyway. Birthdays and weddings arent put off just because of hollidays, right? I think between week 21-29 is best just in case your baby makes a special announcement.

mkritner | November 26 , 2009 6:42 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had mine at 32 weeks which I think was perfect. This way I could return what I had to and have some time to set up the room, wash the clothes, etc. My baby is due right after the holidays, so this was a great time--right before Thanksgiving!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My husband is deployed and will miss the pregnancy as well as birth so my mom and I decided to have my shower back in CA where I can be surrounded by family. Due to flying, I will have it around the 7 month mark. This is my first as well, but thanks to this thread and my mom, I think 7 months sounds just right!

Aud1390 | December 14 , 2009 2:40 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Im hoping to have mine early. I guess Im just antsy to have things done in case my Little Turtle comes early. (According to my first U/S Im due round July 2nd, but the Doc argued the 8th, and Im arguing Im due in June since my Lil Turtle wouldnt hold still for an accurate measurement and they got at least 9CM..PLUS im feeling Turtle bouncing around ALOT already..and other things are saying Im further along haha) So Im thinking around end of March...Plus my husband is military and all my family and my one friend is in another state than we are, so I will have very FEW people at my shower here. Im guessing my cousins will want to have another one. But that will have to be probably after Turtle makes "his" appearance.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having my shower the first weekend in Feb. I am due Feb 25 ! this gives me time to make sure i have pick out everything i wanted for the shower and update my registry with the latest items out there!

schoolgirl198704@yahoo.com | January 07 , 2010 9:06 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I think the best time to have your baby shower is AFTER baby is born. Alot of people really love the idea of baby being there to visit for a little while, then when the little one tuckers out, daddy can come steal them and the ladies can visit! Having all your gifts before the baby is born really sounds like a great idea but a newborn doesnt really need all that stuff right away. Just a few essentials, no need for fancy toys and all that for a newborn. Plus, you usually get clothes that are for when babe is older anyways. Just a preference! Who wouldn't want to have a party to show off and celebrate their bundle of joy!

Kberiault | January 07 , 2010 5:50 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

This is my 2nd baby and I have requested that my shower be after the baby is born. I am pretty stocked on clothes ,crib bedding/blankets, carseat, etc. so I really just want to have a diaper shower. I am 28 1/2 weeks now, and am looking forward to the Springtime party in April where my family and friends can meet her, and I can see some friendly faces after a few weeks of full-time newborn care! Plus, my sister-in-law, the hostess, is a CPA and this timing will work out better for her, too!

thelampison | January 07 , 2010 6:00 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

This is my first baby and my birthday falls the day before I start my third trimester and was thinking of just doing an all-in-one sort of party, is this to early to have a baby shower or is there such thing as having one too early on?

Tiffmg88 | January 07 , 2010 9:26 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had my first baby shower (with my son) at about 32 weeks and my second shower (with my daughter) at about 36 weeks. I actually preferred my shower at 36 weeks, but they say normal time is around 32 weeks...anthing prior is a little too early.

Nicole080984 | January 08 , 2010 12:38 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Its so tacky to throw your own baby shower. A friend or family member is supposed to organize the shower for you. You shouldn't know anything about the shower. Also, its best to throw a shower after the baby has arrived as some mothers experience a stillbirth (death of fetus after 20 weeks).

Majesstical29 | January 08 , 2010 1:00 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Man Majesstical29, can you be any more of a downer? I understand some people have still births, but not everyone does, and most people will know before a shower if their baby (God forbid), has passed. There are u/s and monthly doctor appointments, and emergency appointments if needed. Most people like having a shower around their 7 month mark as it allows time to be able to get things that friends/family weren't able to get for you.

kcrouse06 | January 08 , 2010 4:52 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

This is going to be my first bundle of joy and I'm opting for the two showers deal. I have my Granny, who I'm very close with and lives down in Chino, up for the actual birth so I'm having a small family shower right after the baby is born. For everyone else, I'm having my shower in late April or early May. I'm due July 1 so that is right about the time that most of you have suggested and it was done totally by accident. Yay me for intuition!

brigibson | January 10 , 2010 11:42 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having mine at 35 weeks but had to cancel my other two due to travel restrictions placed on me because of complications with the pregnancy. It was extremely hard to schedule having any due to the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas are a wonderful time to be pregnant but hard to plan a baby shower around :)

khueschen | January 19 , 2010 3:00 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I currently live in california but all of my family and friends are in Texas. So I am going to fly home and have my baby shower when I am 27 weeks. If you need to travel I would suggest going earlier rather than later. Especially when flying. I was going to wait until 30 weeks but I knew I would be so uncomfortable on the plane and traveling takes a lot out of a person, but more so when you are pregnant.

Kevryn | January 21 , 2010 11:51 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having mine on my birthday, which is in April and I will be 25 weeks. I see that everyone is having theres at 28-30 weeks but I'd prefer mine on my birthday. I'll be smaller and a lot more comfortable.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My sister wants to host a shower when I'm just 22 weeks, that's to early right? I mean I will have to fly for her to host it, but it still feels TOO early. Especially since we wont even know the gender till just before then...

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My sister is throwing a shower for my friends when I am 31 weeks, and then my mom and MIL are having one after the baby is born. My mom wants to be able to know the gender of the baby (since we didn't find out) and my MIL says she's superstitious about having it before

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having mine at 33 weeks and I'm due in June. I hope that that's not too late because I'll have to travel to get there! It's going to be Mother's Day weekend which may be kind of appropriate, but I'm concerned that it may inconvenience folks who have plans. Nonetheless, it's the only date that works for everyone and the show must go on!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having mine at 29 weeks. I figure it'd be less stressful to know what I still need to get and have time to wash everything. I also tire easily and know that I will be able to enjoy myself more earlier than if I waited until I'm larger.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am waiting until a few weeks after the baby arrives. Even though I found out what I was having you never kow what can happen. My friend was supposed to have a girl and out came a lil boy! also, there are many things that can go wrong late in a pregnancy so always later to be safer.

I had mine last weekend at 35 weeks, and wish I'd had it earlier. I think the perfect time would have been 3 weeks ago when I was a bit more comfortable.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We're having ours at 28 weeks with friends/family and then mid-30 weeks with my DH's co-workers. We have so much planned that we needed to have it early with friends/family. I'm very excited for them!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I really wish I would have had mine earlier, but since someone else is giving it, what can you really say. I am having mine at 38 weeks, which I think is cutting it wayyyyyy too close, since I had my last son at 38 weeks. I am VERY uncomfortable and dont feel like going out and getting things we may not get. My friends said I shouldnt have gotten anything, since we are having the shower but me and DH went and got all the necessities anyway.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Myself and a friend of mine are 9 weeks apart in our pregnancy, and we would like to have a joint shower, but they are saying they're going to take her 4 weeks early which would put us a trimester apart. If we did the shower with enough time for her to get ready for baby I will be in the 2nd trimester still. Does anyone have any suggestions?

everybody i know does the baby shower a month before they have the baby

estefani | March 03 , 2010 10:37 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My family always does the shower after the baby is born - the parents already helped out with the "big" gifts, and the purpose of the shower is for everone to give gender-appropriate little presents and have a chance to meet the new addition! This also helps cut down on the number of visitors who want to pop by and meet the baby shortly after the birth (wearing us out). I booked the room, and my mum is in charge of all the planning/invitations.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Can I just say something about etiquette? No, you should not throw yourself a baby shower, and no you should not expect a shower after your first baby (although if a friend or family member wants to give you one, that's fine). If you want, you may register for items, and direct any well-wishers to the store where you are registered. The planner should, of course, consult with the expectant parents about the best time for the shower, based on their own timeline as well as the availability of their guests.

mslaura | March 07 , 2010 7:32 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

The earlier the better!!! I am due July 13th and I asked my best friend & mom to plan my shower for mid or late May. When I had my daughter 10 years ago I was due on the 23rd of February and I had two showers (one from work and one with family/friends). My shower was February 3rd for work and February 6th for family and friends. I gave birth February 18th. I was so uncomfortable. It was so hard to bend around with feet the size of footballs and a basketball belly. Not to mention both showers were 40 plus people. Have your shower sooner than later. You wont look like a hot air balloon in pictures and you will have time to do everyting before the baby is born. Good luck to everyone out there!!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I will be 33 weeks pregnant when I have my shower. I don't want to wait any longer, because I don't have much of anything for the baby now. That's put me a little on edge, so the extra few weeks before the baby is born will help!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am 19 weeks, almost 20 weeks pregnant with our first baby, and we plan on having the baby shower when the baby is between 6-8 weeks. We wanted the shower/party to be for the baby and it will be after labor long enough that I wont be totally out of energy, and it will help our friends/family feel closer to the baby for not being about to be at the hospital.

justcallmeque | March 20 , 2010 11:41 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We have decided on leaving the sex of the baby a surprise, therefore anything we can buy now to be prepared for when it comes will be neutral colors. So obviously we will be leaving the baby shower for after the baby is born. That way everyone gets to see the baby, not just my belly.... and thats our opportunity to get the correct genders colors for baby :) xo <3>

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My shower is scheduled for the week I am 30 weeks pregnant. This will be the middle of May. I am due at the end of July. This works out for my friends who are giving the shower and for me. I will feel good enough to enjoy everyone's company. Plus, I will have plenty of time to shop for everything else I need.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Good friends of mine told me 6 1/2 to 7 months. I am due in October, but having it in June, because Agust school starts or many of my friends are planning last minute vacations in August, which is also too hot. Go early its better when you feel better in your skin!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

With my first I was due in Jan 19 and had the shower Dec 6. It was fun but I was so tired and in a hurry so I had to move fast to set everything up. With my second I was due March 13 and had the shower Feb 16. I set some stuff up but with a 1 year old running around was frustrating. We actually had to set up after we got her home. Now I'm pregnant with my 3rd and I'm having my shower at 7 months. That way if her big sisters want to help I'll be more patient and open to it. Which is crucial for sibling bonding.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I will be 27 wks & 2 days when I have my baby shower. I am actually glad to have it this early for multiple reasons. 1) I am already told I am going on bed rest in mid-June most likely (by my doctor). 2) I am already starting to feel uncomfortable so being this early I will be able to actually enjoy it more. The next time I would be almost 36 wks before I could even do it & I personally think that is way to late.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having my shower at 35 weeks preggers. I have had a really good pregnancy so far without any typical symptoms (knock on wood), so for me I don't feel like it is too late. My energy levels are fine and I feel pretty comfortable still. I think every woman is different and it would be hard to judge when the best time for a shower is. I thin k the best time is when you want it...

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

With my first we decided to wait until I was 37 weeks...bad idea...Baby came 5 days before the shower...we cancelled it and told everyone that they could come and see the baby...I was so exhausted, I looked awful and felt awful. Since I may have preeclampsia like I did with my first, we decided to hold it in Early september. I'm due on Oct 31, but we just want to be on the safe side this time( especially b/c I'm already showing symptoms of preeclampsia).

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am planning mine at 32 weeks because I was told that is the best time (1 mon b4 the baby comes) and because my baby is due in Oct so I want to have the shower while it is still warm but not hot out. I know the closer it gets to the due date the more nervous about delivering i'll get and i won't be thinking about a shower

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My mom is planning our shower, and I am hoping she plans it for about 6 or 7 months. Our baby is due in the end of December, so if we have a Sept/Oct shower, it can be an outdoor affair---which will be great for the 80 people my mom is planning on inviting! It's totally crazy! I definitely want one sooner rather than later because I want to have the nursery set up before I am too big and uncomfortable to do anything!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Due to planning issues, my baby shower will be at 34 weeks. This is my first child and I'm not worried about having enough time to get everything I need. For the first few weeks, the baby isn't going to do much anyways and can't really "play" by means of toys. As long as we have the crib, a rocker, possibly a breast pump/bottles/formula, diapers/wipes, and a car seat, I could give a hoot less about what we don't have. :) I've already assembled a small layette with blankets/sheets, ect. (Luckily, all of my friends have had kids already!) The toys and all the frills. she won't be able to enjoy right away anyways. I'd rather not kill myself in the last few weeks preparing the things she can't use until 2/3 months. Besides, if I set everything up, the cats will be all over it.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We're due the 1st week of January but because I work retail and things get crazy starting in November I want to get it done and out of the way sometime in October. Plus, I think I'll still feel comfortable then too and there won't be any snow yet which will be nice.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Our due date for our first child is Feb 3, 2011, So my best friend was thinking of having the baby shower around my 28th or 29th week, sometime around Nov 13th or 20th. The weekend after is Thanksgiving and then its the holiday rush and I don't want to deal with that craziness. I think this will be a good date because I will have a better idea of what I will still need to get. We were thinking about having it after the baby is born, but Feb will still be cold and flu season and don't want to risk it with a newborn.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having one (a small one) today. I'm 36 weeks, and will induced in exactly 3 weeks. However, I'm having the big baby shower 5 days before my induction. This is the only day that worked for the family member who's planning it, but this in my opinion its too late!!! I'm practically crawling out of my skin now as it is, and i have absolutely no energy. Not to mention, its summertime, very humid, and this shower will be outdoors. I am very, very grateful that I'm going to have this shower, and I'm trying not to be a crank about it, but really?? 5 days before I'm supposed to have this baby? eh..not so much.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having a shower thrown by my church ladies when I'm 26 weeks and another by my girl friends when I'm 30 weeks...My first one will be a bigger one so it will give us time to save up and buy whatever else we need before baby gets here!

MrsCMHobbs | June 27 , 2010 1:40 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My baby shower is planned when I am 34 weeks. This is our first child. I know that people do not alway follow the rules of etiquette, but traditionally you are not suppose to have showers if you have more than 1 child. If people would like to buy a gift, they can do so but should not feel obligated after receiving multiple shower invitations.

BrandyT123 | June 29 , 2010 8:55 AM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Wow, i thought it was strange to have one before the baby was born. I've only attended one like it so far. I think it makes sense to have it after the baby is born; that way, everyone gets to meet him/her and there are not a constant barrage of visitors which, to me, would be overwhelming when i'm just starting out. Also, what are some thoughts on thank you gifts/cards?

AmandaJordan1985 | June 29 , 2010 12:26 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'd say between 6-8 weeks is best. I am due 9/18, and mom wanted to do it in September! The best I could get her to move it to was 36 weeks. Later than I would've hoped, especially given the summer heat, but this was the best I could get. My mom keeps quoting tradition is to wait until closer or even after. I haven't been able to substantiate this anywhere, I assume she's making it up.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm due Dec. 12th so i'm going to have it earlier than November. just for the matter of fact that finances are hard for everyone during this time and i dont want to colide with Christmas shopping for everyone. This will also give me more time inbetween baby shower and due date to get what is left of my list that i need and haven't received. I also read that a baby shower should be held around 8 weeks before the baby is due, that way mom is not so tired and restless.

izzybellann | July 29 , 2010 7:27 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'll be just days away from 33 weeks on the date of my shower. I preferred sooner rather than later also. I have a feeling she's going to come early and at 25 weeks I'm already tired, uncomfortable and impatient so I don't really think I should wait any longer. Besides after the shower I'm going to want to spend all my spare time getting the house in order. Getting toys and play pen put together and her clothes washed and put away. Definantely not something i want to put off till the last minute.

I am in my third pregnancy but 1st child. My son was born last year 7 wks early and past away a short time after he was born, we had that shower at 30 weeks. Had a great time. I wanted with this pregnancy to have a "coming home party" instead of a shower but my husband and I agreed that because we are due so late in the year(November 17) it would be to close to the holidays. We decided to look into late September early October for the shower so we could do a park.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My grandmother, who passed away fairly recently, believed that having a shower before the baby came was bad luck. To honor her beliefs and because we want the gender to be a surprise, we are waiting until after our baby is born. And friends and family from out of town will be able to attend the shower and meet our new addition all at the same time.

I'm having a c sec so date actually St. Patty's week. 5-7 days prior to due date, 21st March. It has been 10 years since last pregnancy so this is a change for me due to being older. My first shower planned by mom... I want to have more control over it with decor and style so I'm opting for a Holiday shower. First week of December. I'm looking for a steak house/social restaurant to have a couples dinner. Cocktails and Hordorves by a fireplace, etc. Hot chocolate and warm desserts. The best part is opening the presents with my husband... we are both re married and this is his second my third child. I'm already getting a belly and sooo tired this time around. My last baby shower was 11 years ago with my son. So you can imagine how exciting this is and how much stuff we need. Pretty much everything! My husband and I are giving a couple's dinner shower at a lounge/steakhouse. Cocktail attire with an outrageous menu selection. We love to eat and entertain! My only concern is it too early to have it in the first week of December? I wanted it to be around holiday time due to it being a favorite time of mine. I will be 6 months prego by then. The closer the shower is to my due date, the closer I feel to having my baby, Yeah it sounds crazy because theres the "what if" factor of her coming before the shower, but thats the risk me and my boyfirend took. Im now just a lil over excited with the baby shower arriving, and my daughter a little after. I say have it whenever you feel its convient to you, and those who are helping you.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm due March 6th, and since we live in Wisconsin, I was worried about the driving conditions during winter as well as the stress of the holidays on everyone. So after talking to my mom and sister we decided to have the big( like over 80 invites are going out) maternal baby shower at the end of march, its gonna be a meet the baby, bring a bag of diapers and your own booze if you want it. both sexes are invited, that way if the weather is bad my uncles can drive! The only complication is that we will need to rent a hall for all the people.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am also due in Jan. and am having one baby shower with my family in Oct even though with all the birthday's and Weddings that are planned I still am having a pretty good turn out. I am also have another Baby shower with my in-laws in Nov. to give me time to get organized from the first one to get ready for the second one. Also to avoid friction with Holiday seasons and me just plainly not wanting to do much when I am further along. Plus, I like being organized so this will give me plenty of time to get the clothes out from my first son and all the new things ready.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Why is that everyone buys you baby clothes?! We got so much stuff left on our registry and a ton of clothes that she'll probably never wear. Do people not realize how bad we need help with the other stuff. Not to sound ungrateful, I'm just really worried about how we'll afford buying the remaining items from our registry.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

If everything goes well, I won't have a lot of options on when to have a shower with my family that's over 750 miles away. My sister's getting married 2 months before my due date. That means her wedding shower takes priority exspecailly since I just got married. I think I'm going to have to have this shower at 26-28 weeks. At least I will be comfortable traveling:)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

i feel a little strained on the baby shower front. I'm currently 22 weeks along and I'd love to have my shower in about 8 to 10 weeks for shopping and planning purposes. However, this puts me just after the holiday season. Whereas this puts people in a situation where they could get pre-holiday deals, I feel uncomfortable with people spending more money after the stress of gift buying season...Or maybe I'm just crazy?

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having mine at the end of December (will be 26.5 weeks pregnant) I think it just depends on what works out best for you and those who will be attending (for example if you are in the military and far away from family its best to do it when you get the chance)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had my shower at 30 weeks. I felt good, we rec'd plenty of gifts that we needed, and there was still time to run out and get the essentials before the baby came. Plus my belly wasn't too big or too small.

crystalmartindale | December 11 , 2010 11:11 PM

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

A baby shower should be planned around a month-month and half before your due date, 2 months max. This way your all registered for what you want and still have time to exchange or return anything you don't need. Any earlier, you run in the problems with tons of baby things all around your place waiting a long while before the baby comes to actually use it. You also run into the disappointment of certain baby items being taken off shelves or put on clearance. And also receiving something you wanted 4 months ago, but now that you settled on something else you love even better. (Ex. That blue turtle blanket you wanted then would not go with your jungle theme nursery you adore now.) Plus any earlier you have the chance of running into multiple baby showers. One maybe two is fine, but because as time goes on you find some people couldn't come at this time so decide to plan a whole new one! Which means more of your time and energy.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm only 11 wks pregnant but I was shocked to read that nobody has the shower after the baby is born. My husband and I have decided to host a baby shower after the baby is born so that everyone can meet him/her and it makes it easier for gifts as well for everybody. We are just buying a few essentiials before hand and then once the shower is over we will have a better idea of what we still need.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having two showers, one when I am 30 weeks and hopefully the other one when I am either 34 or 35 weeks, still haven't decided on the date of the last one. These are both a good deal sooner than my SIL who is having her only shower when she is 38 weeks. But that is due to the hostess on her part.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I will be roughly 35 weeks when I have mine. I wanted mine close to due date only because the location will be somewhat cooler, which will be a nice break from the hot. Also I am having a co-ed shower, so I wanted to make sure my SS will be there to be able to play with his cousins, so we had to schedule around DH and SS's moms time also!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

Maybe it's a Canadian thing but both mine and my husbands families prefer to have showers AFTER the baby is born. I've been to too many showers for babies that did not end up coming home from the hospital. I would prefer to have one before but I'm not going to push the boundaries with my families and completely understand where they are coming from.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I like what our church and friends did for my mom, see after my brother and I my parents waited like13 years before there next kiddo, my little brother Joshua, and Sister Macie 2 years later. any whoo, they waited to through the shower after she delivered, so when Joshua was like a month old, everyone got to meet him for the first time, and mom wasnt so uncomfortable. The Funny part was Moms frien who organised the shower, decided that we needed "the belly" so she stuffed the shirt with a pillow adn played the part of "preggy" in the room! Then When my little sister was born there were like 4 other babies born in our church that week! So they just through one gigantic shower, with a meet and greet the babies too! it was so cool!!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'd say start planning as soon as you find out the sex. It's better to do it earlier rather than later. You can always save up for the extra things you will still need after all the gifts. Waiting till you are 30+ weeks is not very smart. You will have less ang

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having 2 showers as well. I am 30 weeks now and my side of the family is having a shower for us when In will be 32 weeks. My husband's side is having one when I will be 35 weeks. The dates were chosen around other things that are going on.....March is a busy month for us. I would have preferred my 2nd shower be sooner but it just couldn't be helped. This is my 3rd child but my youngest is 14 so we need everything lol. My hubby and I aren't doing any shopping until after the showers so we will be rushed a bit. But the nursery will be decorated at least....we're still working on it.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having one at 27 week and one at 28 weeks along (in May). I am also having one thrown by the ladies at my church at 34 weeks along (in June). I started thinking about it around 15 weeks working with my sister (the hostess for the first one) getting ideas of location in her head, guest list, etc. I like the idea of having it a tad early because if having the time to organize and sort while I still have the energy. I do not want to have to worry about getting ready for baby the same month it is due. Plus, my schedule is pretty packed the last two month with other engagements (a friends wedding) and personal committments.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had my first shower at 32 weeks, it was a small shower...only 15 guests! I got a lot of clothes but nothing I really NEED! My second shower is in a week and a half, at exactly 36 weeks, its been nice having something to look forward to during this 8th month because it feels like FOREVER until the due date. I will say that waiting for my big shower that my side of the family is throwing is nerve-wrecking. I keep freaking out because I don't have everything I need yet, of course I have the crib, car seat/travel system but I keep wanting to buy everything and take it off the registry myself! I wish we could've had the shower this weekend instead.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I read a ton of your answers, I am only 13.4 weeks pregnant. I live in Louisiana and most of my family and friends live out of state in Iowa. I plan to return home for my brothers baby's christening the 5th of June. My sister n law and best friend both want to give me a shower on the 4th of June. I will be 15 weeks then. My problem is my family believes I should wait till I am at least 7 months. The last time I was able to return home to Iowa was at least 2 or 3 years ago,. Plus, being high risk, I know I wont be traveling at 7 months! I told them to go ahead and plan it! But do it for both men and women. Since my brother wants to grill. lol! I don't get why I am being told that I should wait. Please help. Thanks.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I plan to have mine at the beginning of my 3rd trimester. My friend had hers scheduled for 35 weeks, but she was just over 5 weeks early and they had to reschedule the shower, which was difficult with the newborn. Plus, they had nothing set up and ready for baby. I don't want to risk that.

My baby shower was planned last minute by my aunt. A few weeks before I had a strong feeling that the baby was coming early so I told her to cancel. She refused and said I was crazy. I went into labor 2 days before my shower. Had my daughter the day before my shower. Nobody knew I had her already and everyone showed up for my baby shower just to find out I wasn't there. My daughter was 2 weeks early. I'd like to have my shower at least a month or 2 before baby #2 is due

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

With my first child I ended up having to be induced because of serious growth restriction. I was only 19 and scared. Because my son was so early I ended up having him 5 days before my baby shower and he happened to be there. Everyone really loved that fact that they got to see him but I was exhausted and it put a lot of stress on my mother who hosted the shower. With this pregnancy I am not due til Dec 22nd. I am going to have my shower much earlier because I am High Risk and only 17 weeks already on bed rest. I also am a stay at home mom right now so I am having it a lot earlier before I feel like I am going to die. LOL I am thinking about having it the weekend before my husband's 30th birthday. I hope all goes well.

Baby shower are an occasion to present your newly born to your friends and family but it's not something your child will remember. You have to keep in mind that, although it's a party, you don't want to stress your baby, so no use of fireworks, tun confetti or loud music.

Mine isn't scheduled until November,13, which puts me at 34 weeks.... I am afraid this is too late but I don't know how to tactfully tell my sister and mother in law that this doesn't work for me. I feel it doesn't leave us enough time to fill in the holes, it is too close to the Holidays and to top it off, the shower is being held 2 hours out of town, in my hubby's home town, and none of my family and friends can make it. I hate to sound ungrateful, cause I really do appreciate their help, but is there a way to tactfully tell them that the shower needs to be held earlier?

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

We wanted to do it early because my first was 6 weeks early and I was on strict bed rest at 27 weeks. I'd get up to use the restroom and be in the hospital for pre-term labor for days. It was a never ending battle of hopsital, rest and boredom. Hopefully this one won't be as stressful but I want everything done, bought and set-up early so it's ready just in case. I'm due early March and my shower is actually scheduled for Dec 26th (I'll be 28 weeks). Even though everyone is busy with the holidays this was the perfect week for all of us because we knew no one is working that day and it would be easy for us all to get together. I'm in the military so my family is my friends here so instead of having Christmas together like we normally do, we are all having Thanksgiving together, then low key Christmas dinners at home with our families then a baby shower the following day with all of us together. That way no one is cleaning, setting up, cooking, etc. two days in a row. Either way, I'll have plenty of time to get things I still need, wash clothes, set up the room, etc. before I get too tired or end up on bed rest; hopefully not this time though :)

I've heard that about 8 weeks before your due date. I think that seems to be long enough in advance. That way you still have two months to buy any essentials you might not have gotten. Additionally, it gives you time to organize all of the lovely gifts from the shower!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am 30 weeks pregnant and my mother wants to have my shower when I am about 38 weeks. I am scared because I don't think I will be prepared for my daughter, I don't have anything for her except a few outfits and a crib. No crib sheets, no car seat, nothing. This is my first baby. I also have gestational diabetes and could be induced early depending on how big she gets. I am getting so scared. I sent my mom a message about my concerns and am worried about how she will react. I don't want to sound like I am bugging her but I am just starting to get very anxious and nervous. Any tips or ideas?

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I live in Italy and they don't have baby showers here (although the baptism is a BIG celebration). I won't be back to see my family in America until (hopefully) 4 months after the baby is due. I really want all my family and friends to meet the baby and also have a baby shower (this is my first and I would like to celebrate this fun tradition). Do you think that's ok to have the shower AFTER the baby is born? If so, any advice on easy to pack gifts I could register for?

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My "family shower" given by my sisters is at 24 weeks and my "friends shower" thrown by my sorority sisters will be at my 29 week mark. I like that I am having both before I hit those last 10 weeks, so I can plan, prepare and get everything in order. Plus, since my baby is due at the beginning of August, we tried to be mindful of late May-late July weddings, vacations, and other showers/events that will be coming up for people!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I was thinking about finding out the sex just so that we would have everything we needed before the baby came, but my mom reminded me how much fun it was anticipating what the sex was of our first one. My mom said that I can always have the baby shower after the baby is already here, which is a great idea for me because I don't like being the center of attention anyway.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am having my baby shower @ 34weeks, this makes me a little nervous about it being so close to the due date. I think between 28 ~ 32 weeks would have been ideal, but I am not in charge of it & it works for everyone else. I 'll just be greatful I am getting one :)

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I had my baby shower at 26 weeks and It was perfect. I still felt good enough to travel and to shop for items that I did not receive at the baby shower. I am a planner andI want to have my nursery complete no later than the beginning of month 8. By having the shower it has also allowed me to save budget dollars. After the shower I only to fill in the gaps!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm hoping and praying for a shower around my 31st or 32nd week of pregnancy. We just found out that my baby is due around around December 2nd 2012 (a few days after Thanksgiving). I just want to get everything set up and completed way before all of the holiday rush and fuss. I don't want the family and friends to have too much to worry about around that time as well.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

My husband is in the military and is deploying this year. We found out we were pregnant and were very excited, immediately followed by sadness knowing he'll miss the birth and first few months. He's deploying this September, but i'll only be 5 1/2 months, but that's when we're having our baby shower. I don't want him to miss out on as much as he can. We'll have our nursery done by then too :)) Moral of my comment, to each his own...whatever works best and is convenient for you and your loved ones!

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having mine early (26 weeks) that because I've had to move half way across the country from my friends and family and it's the only time my DH and I can get back there (via driving so we can bring everything back). One of my bridesmaids called me the second she found out I was pregnant to offer to host it and pin down a way we could do it. Normally I would never want to do it this early but I also didn't want to drive across the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the middle of the winter.

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I am planning mine for week 34 I think it is close enough, especially for me it falls right at the end of July and during this HOT weather I don't think I will have energy to do anything

Q&A: When should I have my baby shower?

I'm having my shower at 28 weeks. My husband and I are expecting twins and these are our first children. It will be great to have the shower relatively early so we have time to get all of the remaining items before the twins arrive. We plan to get the remaining items during the 2-3 weeks after the shower.
