Re: What size clothes will my baby wear right after birth? And how quickly will he grow into a larger size?
You're smart to think ahead -- we know tons of moms who ended up with piles of barely-worn newborn clothes, and many others who brought baby home to a wardrobe entirely stocked with too-big clothes. (Only wash and take the tags off of a few outfits before baby comes -- that way, if you get the wrong sizes, you can return or exchange.) More advice and experience from our users:
"My DD was 7 lbs. at birth, and was too small for newborn sized clothes at first. Most newborn/0-3 month clothes are for 8-12 lbs. After the first wash they shrunk down a bit but were still a little big on her. A few of her newborn clothes are becoming snug at 6 weeks. Most of her 0-3s still fit though." -Missa1128
"Jaime was 5 lbs., 15 oz. at birth and wore preemie clothing for the first month. She is nearly three months and currently still fits in 75% of her newborn clothes and wears some 0-3 month. The 3 month size is still a tiny bit too big." -expecting0207
"My DS is a fairly large baby. He was 8 lb., 15 oz. and 21.25 in. at birth, and now weighs 11 lbs, 8 oz. He did wear newborn clothing for a very short time -- about two weeks -- and is now mainly in 0-3 month sizes. However, because his legs are so long, any outfits that have full-length legs are 3-6 month size." -crk05
"My DS is 2 weeks old today and still wearing preemie sized clothing. He was born at 7 lbs., 2 oz. and was 20 in. long. There are some newborn onesies that fit, but most of them are still extremely big on him!" -ErinAGS04
"My DD was 7 lbs., 1 oz. at birth and is now 9 lbs., 9 oz. and mainly wears 0-3 month clothes." -Rossica+1
"He fit into 0-3 month clothes right away (over 8 lbs. at birth)." -SAB717
