With baby on board, travel takes a little extra planning. With this checklist, you'll be prepared to go anywhere. Once baby arrives, check out our guide to packing a diaper bag. (Items with a * are must-haves.)

[  ] Infant or convertible car seat*
[  ] Stroller (reclining to almost flat for infants)
[  ] Diaper bag
[  ] Changing pad
[  ] Baby carrier/sling

Get a mirror to put in the back seat so you can see the baby as you drive. It might seem like a nonessential item, but it really is great to have especially if you're driving alone. I don't know what I would do without it. Also, throw away the changing pad that comes with your diaper bag. It's bulky, hard to clean, and not big enough to put the baby on. It's also gross to put back in your diaper bag once you've laid it on the floor or, even worse, a public bathroom changing station. Get a pack of large lap pads. They are bigger, waterproof, washable, and fold up really small. Plus, you can roll one up and put it in gallon-sized Ziploc bag to prevent spreading germs throughout your diaper bag.

Q&A: Travel supplies for a newborn?

That was one of the issues I had too when I had my first baby. I used to read things on the internet about this and other mothers' suggestions. I was so anxious and concerned about it that at some point I forgot to contact my car insurance Ireland company when the insurance expired. I was way too stressed out back then.

When traveling with a baby you should definitely think in everything necessary. I first traveled with my baby when he was six months old and we flight to New York in order to spend there the winter holidays. I was very careful when I've done the luggage and I made a list of everything I needed to take for my little baby. I took clothes, diapers, the changing pad and also the baby carrier. I've also signed a Visitors Health Insurance for him.

Q&A: Travel supplies for a newborn?

My first travel with my baby was an adventurous one. When he was 4 months old I've decided to travel to Europe in order to spend there the summer holiday. I've made a list of what I needed to put on the luggage such as clothes, diapers, toys and baby formula and everything seemed to be great. When the flight started I remembered that I've forgotten to take the baby formula bottles and I was desperate. It was a 10 hours flight and I couldn't keep my baby without food so much time but I was lucky with a passenger who was traveling with her baby too and he gave me a sterilized bottle in order to feed my baby.

One of the things that you need to do is some online research of the area where you want to go with your baby. For example, I did some research on Israel hotels that offer special accommodation for families with small children. Think about it and be prepared in advance.

The supplies you need to take with you depend on where you want to go. If you want to go around Europe, the supplies are probably different because all the countries there have what you need. Pack light!!

I am not saying that I don't enjoy a road trip weekend, but I rather prefer to travel by plane. By the way I am always using the DMC Tel Aviv services when I am in Israel. What I want to do next is to spend a weekend on a Cruise ship. I heard that the experience is unique. Do the same with your baby, the flight companies accept on board newborn babies.
