Pregnancy Week by Week

Get a window on what’s happening in your pregnancy, week by week. From week four to week 42, your baby is experiencing a miraculous transformation from a clump of cells to a fully formed (and totally cute) newborn. Just imagine, as early as five weeks, your baby is already starting to form major organs (heart, stomach, liver, and kidneys) and systems (digestive, circulatory, nervous). By eight weeks, your raspberry-sized womb-mate is moving her arms and legs. At the beginning of your second trimester (week 14), your wee one is sucking his thumb. By week 28, the first week of the third trimester, baby (now as big as an eggplant) is prepping for breathing, developing his eyesight and packing on pounds in anticipation of life outside the womb. Each week is a new miracle. Less miraculous is how a mom-to-be may feel. Pregnancy Week-by-Week charts your baby’s development but also lets mom know what she might be feeling during each week of her pregnancy. Pregnancy week by Week includes everything mom needs to know to feel a sense of control over her pregnancy. Each week offers a complete guide to what you might feel, your must-do’s, your nice-to do’s, and answers and advice on everything pregnancy-related. Plus each week’s guide offers tips on maintaining a healthy and comfortable pregnancy from strategies on coping with pregnancy symptoms (morning sickness anyone?) to ideas for healthy eating, and pointers on talking to your OB. Let us guide you along your pregnancy, week by week.

Q&A: Sore boobs during pregnancy?

My boobs are totally killing me! Why and when will it end?

Re: My boobs are totally killing me! Why and when will it end?

The Bump Expert

Breast soreness tends to come early in the first trimester, and is one of the first signs of pregnancy. The growth and changes in your boobs -- necessary to allow baby to feed after she arrives -- can cause major discomfort. Increased blood flow (caused by surging hormones, what else?) to your chest is probably making your boobs swollen and sensitive to the touch. The soreness should fade after your first trimester, though your cup size will continue to increase as milk ducts and milk-producing cells form.

Your best defense? A supportive bra. Take a professional bra consultant up on their offer, and get an expert fitting. Make sure to leave some room for growing!

Q&A: Sore boobs during pregnancy?

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and just went from a 36C to a 38DD!! Definitely shocked. My boobs are soo sore that showering has even become a painful experience! My best advice is to get a maternity bra and a sleeping bra; both available at department stores or maternity shops. I just purchased both and I feel substantial relief. Definitely go a size bigger to allow for growth. BONUS: the sales woman also mentioned that the sleeping bra would prevent stretch marks :)

Q&A: Sore boobs during pregnancy?

I am only 5 wks pregnant, and my breasts are so tender that I actually can't sleep at night. With my duaghter, I had very few symptoms and a really easy pregnancy...I remember my chest hurting, but nothing like this.

My problem isn't that my breasts as a whole are sore; it's my nipples that are awful tender. Maybe my boobs are too small to be tender? ;). Looking forward to the size increase though!

I'm 5 weeks and the breast soreness coupled with nipple tenderness is absolutely killing me. I can't even let my husband near them because they are so tender.

Q&A: Sore boobs during pregnancy?

Breast sensitivity is how I know I am pregnant, usually up to a week before a missed period. My breasts start to feel tingly, heavy, and sensitive. Unfortunately I have had a few early miscarriages so unsure about how long it typically lasts, but I wore a good soft supportive bra all throughout my first full term pregnancy which really helped (even at night.) I prefer shaped sports bras...they are supportive and comfy but still flattering to wear under clothing. Don't buy too many bras early on may find you outgrow them!

Q&A: Sore boobs during pregnancy?

I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant, my breast tenderness has calmed down a bit, my nipples however are still quite sensitive... I think it's different for everyone....
