Pregnancy Week by Week

Get a window on what’s happening in your pregnancy, week by week. From week four to week 42, your baby is experiencing a miraculous transformation from a clump of cells to a fully formed (and totally cute) newborn. Just imagine, as early as five weeks, your baby is already starting to form major organs (heart, stomach, liver, and kidneys) and systems (digestive, circulatory, nervous). By eight weeks, your raspberry-sized womb-mate is moving her arms and legs. At the beginning of your second trimester (week 14), your wee one is sucking his thumb. By week 28, the first week of the third trimester, baby (now as big as an eggplant) is prepping for breathing, developing his eyesight and packing on pounds in anticipation of life outside the womb. Each week is a new miracle. Less miraculous is how a mom-to-be may feel. Pregnancy Week-by-Week charts your baby’s development but also lets mom know what she might be feeling during each week of her pregnancy. Pregnancy week by Week includes everything mom needs to know to feel a sense of control over her pregnancy. Each week offers a complete guide to what you might feel, your must-do’s, your nice-to do’s, and answers and advice on everything pregnancy-related. Plus each week’s guide offers tips on maintaining a healthy and comfortable pregnancy from strategies on coping with pregnancy symptoms (morning sickness anyone?) to ideas for healthy eating, and pointers on talking to your OB. Let us guide you along your pregnancy, week by week.

Q&A: Danger of alcohol after conceiving?

Should I be worried about the fact that I had two alcoholic drinks on the night of conception? It seems like a small amount, and that is the only alcohol I've had while pregnant. Could my baby be damaged?

No, you shouldn't worry. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can lead to fetal alcohol syndrome, which is associated with abnormal facial features, growth problems and developmental and learning disabilities, among other things. Unfortunately, there is no "safe" amount of alcohol that is okay to consume during pregnancy. So, you are right to avoid it since conceiving. But, if the only alcohol you had was on the night of conception, you shouldn't worry about damage to the baby.

Q&A: Danger of alcohol after conceiving?

I just found out today that I am 5 weeks pregnant...I went to a wedding this weekend and had some to drink, and I never drink on a regular basis...Im freaking out because I am worried that it might affect my little one.

Q&A: Danger of alcohol after conceiving?

Maybe people drink while being unaware that they are pregnant. I did the same thing and have a wonderful and healthy son. I would strongly advise to not drink until after the delivery. Worrying about something you have no control now, and most likely will not harm baby will only cause you undue stress. Good Luck and enjoy being pregnant. :)

Q&A: Danger of alcohol after conceiving?

This is my first post ever and I'm not sure if I should be commenting on this current question or posting my question elsewhere... It basically is the same question as above, but there is a little difference. The day I was going to tell my husband that I was pregnant, my mom passed away. The date I actually took a test was 6 days after my period would have started... It is so difficult to have both emotions fighting with one another....the shock and sadness of my mom at only 65 years passing away from possible suicide and the joy plus excitement (of course fear) finding out I am pregnant... so, to cut to the chase, the only thing (I do not want to get involved with meds) that is helping me relax and not ball my eyes out all day is wine. I want to know if anyone knows exactly when the embryo begins feeding from the mom... I had been drinking wine every day, even before knowing, as I was on vacation with friends. I already feel like a terrible mom and since I prefer not to tell anyone about the pregnancy yet, I turn to this forum. Can anyone help me?

Q&A: Danger of alcohol after conceiving?

I would not worry about the vacation before you knew....chances are, your baby will be fine. I would be more worried about you emotional state now. It seem as if you are using alcohol to cope with the death of your mother. I would try to stop drinking ASAP, and you should explain the situation to your doctor. If you are experiencing some depression, I believe that there are safe depression meds that you can take while pregnat. I believe that the umilical cord forms around the 6th week, so that is when your baby will really begin getting nutrients from you. Best wishes!
