One of the most dreaded effects of pregnancy is stretch marks. From belly to bottom, stretch marks hit over half of pregnant women. Stretch marks happen because your skin is expanding at such a rapid rate, particularly in the sixth and seventh months. You’re more likely to get stretch marks if you are carrying multiples or a big baby or gained weight especially quickly. Genetics also play a factor -- if your mother or sister got stretch marks, you probably will, too.

Although there are no surefire ways to prevent stretch marks, there are a few measures you can take. No hard evidence supports that lotions and creams work, but moisturizing and staying hydrated are great ways to protect your skin’s elasticity. The good news is, stretch marks should fade considerably in the months after you deliver. If you’re later unhappy with your skin’s appearance, see a dermatologist for treatment options such as prescription creams and laser therapy.

Well if its in your genes to get them you may very well, my mother had some so i did as well but i did use bio oil and that is like the best stuff out there to me, my stretch marks were a little red after giving birth and the bio oil made that completely go away! :)

A friend told me to use Vitamin E oil - found mine at a pharmacy. Be careful because it's oily, so put it on at night, and wear a bad tee that you don't mind ruining! I'm not showing yet, but thought I'd start this early to keep my skin moisturized. My friend didn't have any stretch marks!

I didn't have any with my first, but now i'm already starting to show at 15 weeks with my second, so I'm much more worried that i might get some. I just drink lots of water, lather up with all types of butters, primarily shea butter and cocoa with vitamin E oil already in the lotions.

This sounds crazy, but my sister-in-law said to use Crisco (the stuff you bake with), and she had no stretch marks after her pregnancy. I'm only 12 weeks and not showing yet, so I've been using lotion. I'm trying the Crisco as soon as I start putting on inches.

I am very much into nutrition, and I have read that people who get stretchmarks don't get enough zinc. This is my first pregnancy and my mother had stretchmarks with her pregnancy so I will see if the zinc thing is true :)

I am using vit E oil as well as almond oil (from trader joes) and mustella (from It helped 3 of my friends avoid them and it makes the skin so soft!!
