Pregnancy Week by Week

Get a window on what’s happening in your pregnancy, week by week. From week four to week 42, your baby is experiencing a miraculous transformation from a clump of cells to a fully formed (and totally cute) newborn. Just imagine, as early as five weeks, your baby is already starting to form major organs (heart, stomach, liver, and kidneys) and systems (digestive, circulatory, nervous). By eight weeks, your raspberry-sized womb-mate is moving her arms and legs. At the beginning of your second trimester (week 14), your wee one is sucking his thumb. By week 28, the first week of the third trimester, baby (now as big as an eggplant) is prepping for breathing, developing his eyesight and packing on pounds in anticipation of life outside the womb. Each week is a new miracle. Less miraculous is how a mom-to-be may feel. Pregnancy Week-by-Week charts your baby’s development but also lets mom know what she might be feeling during each week of her pregnancy. Pregnancy week by Week includes everything mom needs to know to feel a sense of control over her pregnancy. Each week offers a complete guide to what you might feel, your must-do’s, your nice-to do’s, and answers and advice on everything pregnancy-related. Plus each week’s guide offers tips on maintaining a healthy and comfortable pregnancy from strategies on coping with pregnancy symptoms (morning sickness anyone?) to ideas for healthy eating, and pointers on talking to your OB. Let us guide you along your pregnancy, week by week.

Q&A: Weird pregnancy dreams?

Why am I having all these crazy dreams? What do they mean? Is it a sign that something is wrong with my baby?

Re: Why am I having all these crazy dreams? What do they mean? Is it a sign that something is wrong with my baby?

The Bump Expert

Dreams reflect your mental state, and let’s face it -- you’re a bit of a basket case right now. The excitement, apprehension and stresses of pregnancy don’t disappear during slumber. Hormonal changes -- specifically, progesterone and estrogen surges -- also contribute to wacky dreams. And, don’t forget about your constant nighttime awakenings. Dreams come during deep REM sleep, and when you wake during this stage it’s much easier to remember those vivid visions.

So why are you suddenly dreaming about rainforests and oceans…and talking animals…and sex (not just with your spouse)… and tall buildings? These common themes represent emotions and anxiety about your changing body, that person growing inside you, and your evolving relationship with your mate.

Though odd dreams can be disturbing, they’re also helpful. Look at it as your subconscious’s chance to work through anxieties and other heavy emotions. And finally, don’t put too much stock in any nighttime “premonitions.” You’re a nervous mommy, not a prophet.

Q&A: Weird pregnancy dreams?

I am 10 weeks and having very vivid, strange dreams too! They feel so real and when I wake up I can remember them. Some are funny, some make sense and some are so off the wall it's almost Alice and Wonderland status. I hear it's normal though so I just take them as they come :) [img][/img]

Q&A: Weird pregnancy dreams?

i'm 6-8 weeks and i've never had dreams like this! i feel like every night is a new nightmare. my exes pop up and are chasing me around or my significant other is yelling at me that he hates me. it really sucks because i'm working two jobs right now in order to be able to save up money for when baby comes, but pretty much every morning i wake up in a panic because of some obscure, stressful dream that i can't quite always remember. it's also a little bit of a stresser for my relationship because i'll wake up and be like "i can't believe this is what happened, i'm so freaked out!" and if he doesn't have the appropriate response, i'll get really angry, even though i know it's unreasonable! fortunately, he is very understanding and i always apologize and we laugh about it, but it's still pretty crazy.

Q&A: Weird pregnancy dreams?

Those dreams are normal, I'm not sure which week I'm at cause this is my first time, but I've already had some pretty funny animie style dreams, one of which was on New Years Eve in the morning when trying to catch up on missed sleep from later that evening (hint: new year's eve party, no alcohol, cleo will hate me if I get drunk), where just as I was waking up from my nap, I woke up to a dream where I was diving into a 50 ft diving well and I was jumping off a platform 50 ft in the air from the surface of the pool. That pool turned into the surface of the sun, my flesh burned up and I woke up right at that point in the dream. Rather than getting scared by the dream, I laughed as if I had just finished watching Carl blow up a cruise ship and than stand on a bloodied couple in the last lifeboat not chewed and eaten by Carl. The second dream, was the following morning on New Years Day at a friend's house (again, think new years eve party), where my physical body became the entire state of California and the primary rib right under my busom, or possibly the rib right above cleo, I really don't remember, was the epicenter for an 8.0 magnitude earthquake. That dream woke me up right away, I went back to sleep after a few seconds of silent laughter and the aftershock happened almost as soon as I entered delta, that epicenter was in my kneecaps and was just as hilarious.
