Losing the Baby Weight

5 tips for burning off your baby fat.

Now that you're a mom, hours for exercise (or chores...or calling back your mother...or cooking dinner) are few and far between. Try out these quick tips for burning baby fat in between dinner, diapers, and doctor visits.

Hit the Sidewalk
Start off with a short walk around the block and build up to 20 minutes of cardio 3 to 5 times per week. If you can’t find the time to leave your house, walking up and down stairs for 15 minutes burns just as many calories.

Baby = Barbell
Use baby’s ever-increasing weight to youradvantage. Try holding him to your chest while doing lunges, or lyingon your back and lifting him to the ceiling and back down (think benchpress).

Give Nursing a Shot
Breastfeeding is an easy way to lose weight... and up to 800 calories a day!

Toss the Junk
Watch what you eat. Easier said than done, of course, but a healthy snack can go a long way in dropping pounds and decreasing hunger. Rid your kitchen of junk food to eliminate the temptation.

Don't Go It Alone
Use the buddy system. Team up with other moms to support and motivate one another to eat healthy and work out. Need extra motivation? Consider a workout class geared for postpartum moms.

I have been going to Curves 2 - 3 times a week since January and I've ADDED on 3lbs.  I'm now 12lbs OVER my pre-pregnancy weight.  I eat and drink just the same as before I ever got pregnant and I don't only snack, I do like vegs and fruit, what's my problem here!?

Seems to me like maybe you're not eating enough! If you're going to curves, you may be burning more calories than your body needs to function right now and it could be hanging on to extra fat (and storing a little more) in response. Have you tried doing WW online or anything- might help you track how many calories you're eating/expending and see where you stand...and if you only have 12 or so lbs to lose, won't take long! And drink LOTS and LOTS of water...!!

I highly recommend doing Weight Watchers. If you can't afford it just think that the "real" amount of food you should be eating is about 1/3 of what you are use to. If you are going to Curves you have to remember that you are also gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.

Use your baby to your advantage. I would do lunges, squats and arm workouts while holding my baby. I often dancing while holding my baby -- she loves it and it gets me sweating. Now that she is 1 -- I pop in the Wiggles or other singing/dancing kid DVDS and we get moving. I've dropped all the baby weight -- 75 pounds

I also am doing Weight Watchers and so far I have lost 6 lbs in the last 3 weeks.  Before I started I had not lost a pound since the baby was 7 weeks old (now 13 weeks).  Loosing this weight is a lot harder than I thought it would be!
