Q&A: Why is baby bald?

Why is baby bald in spots? What can I do?

Re: Why is baby bald in spots? What can I do?

The Bump Expert

Babies often lose their hair during the first six months -- usually they lose it right along with their mothers! This is called "telogen effluvium," which is the loss of hair after a big, stressful event (birth and giving birth definitely counts). Don't worry, the hair always grows back -- though sometimes as a different color or consistency. The reason for the bald spot is that since babies are on their backs, they turn their head from side to side, and they lose more hair on the back of their head.

re: Q: Why is baby bald?

I agree, my son has way less hair than he did when he was born 7/14/08, especially on the back and on the sides.
