Q&A: When will baby start tummy time?

When will baby start tummy time?

Re: When will baby start tummy time?

The Bump Expert

Formal tummy time can start at about two or three months -- or as soon as baby can lift her head. When you do start, baby should be awake and supervised, and you should keep it to 30 minutes a day, max. The truth is, it’ll be a miracle if you can get her to stay there for 30 minutes, so don’t get discouraged. Try it off and on during the day to avoid stressing her (and you) out. Tummy time is so important because it strengthens her neck and helps develop her motor skills; plus, it wards off a condition called positional plagiocephaly (or flat head), which some babies can develop from long hours spent on their backs.

Q&A: When will baby start tummy time?

Tummy Time can and should start right away because it's so important. If you begin early, baby will become accustomed to the routine and learn to be more comfortable with it. Pathways Awareness has tips to help parents on their website: http://bit.ly/8IhuuF Start in small bits of time and work up to longer stretches, to eventually an hour per day and your baby will be a Tummy Time pro!

Q&A: When will baby start tummy time?

When you first start tummy time, even if you can do 1 minute after every diaper change, it is really beneficial. Then just keep adding on a little time every week or so and he'll get the hang of it!

Q&A: When will baby start tummy time?

I started doing tummy time with my baby at about 3 weeks but wasn't consistant with it. She is now 7 weeks and will start doing it more often. She's not a fan of it though. I say let babies be babies and don't over stimulate of put pressure on them, just cause you see it posted online doesn't make it "right for your baby." I get upset when I read, "I don't want to spoil my baby!" I mean, isn't that EXACTLY what we should be doing?! These moments will be gone in a blink of an eye. I say, SPOIL AWAY!! Congratulations to all the new mommies! Ivanna <3>

Q&A: When will baby start tummy time?

Our pediatrician said to start right away though he didn't say for how long during the day, so I'm glad to read some ideas on that here. I was worried we weren't doing it enough. We don't want a flat head!
