The Bump Expert

Some doctors have been known to delay breast exams using the excuse that the breast tissue of lactating women is lumpier and denser, making it tougher to perform an accurate exam. (And, yes, some doctors might simply not want milk to "squirt out.") It's true that breast changes can be tougher to recognize during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but this certainly isn't a reason to ignore your boobs. Continue with monthly self-exam, and let your doctor know if you notice a lump that has you concerned. If any doctor refuses to examine your breasts, find another physician who will.
