Sample Baby Schedules: Eight-Month-Olds

Moms' real everyday routines -- how does yours compare?

6:30 a.m. Wake up

6:45 a.m. Breastfeed

7:30 a.m. Breakfast (fruit such as apples, bananas or pears; or baby cereal, such as oatmeal or rice)

8 - 8:15 a.m. Playtime

8:15 or 8:30 a.m. Nap #1

9:15 or 9:45 a.m. Wake up from nap #1

9:45 a.m. Breastfeed

10 – 11 a.m. Playtime (Usually, she’s working on crawling and sitting up from laying down, or spends time in her Jumperoo.)

11:30 a.m. Nap #2

1:00 p.m. Wake up from nap #2

1:15 p.m. Breastfeed

1:30 - 4 p.m. Playtime (Activities are usually the same as above.)

4 or 4:30 p.m. Catnap for a half hour

5 p.m. Breastfeed

5:30 p.m. dinner (sweet potato, butternut squash, peas, avocado, or rice cereal if she didn't have any at breakfast)

6 - 6:30 p.m. Playtime

6:30 p.m. Bath and start bedtime routine (Usually it’s bath in regular bathtub, lotion, PJs, breastfeed, then put baby down by 7 p.m.)

7 p.m. Down for the night

2:30 or 3:00 a.m. Wakes to eat; she sometimes wakes again at around 4:30 or 5 a.m. I feed her a good feed the first time she wakes up and only just briefly the second time as we are trying to wean her of night time feedings

**She usually takes two longer naps ranging from 1 to 2 hours and one catnap in the evening for about a 1/2 hour. I estimate she gets around 15 hours of sleep a day on average.

Daily schedule for an eight-and-a-half-month-old, formula- and puree-fed, baby girl (submitted by Letitia C.)

5:30 – 6 a.m. Wakes up on her own. I change her and get her dressed for the day. She has a 6 – 8 ounce bottle immediately.

Play time

8 a.m. Breakfast of purees. She generally eats two 3.5 ounce containers of Gerber's 2nd Foods, fruits or veggies

Play time

9 or 10 a.m. Nap. At home, she'll sleep for two hours; daycare is lucky if they get a full hour.

11 a.m. Another 6 ounce bottle

Play time

1 p.m. Lunch; same as breakfast.

Play time

2:30 or 3 p.m. Nap

3 or 4 p.m. Another 6 ounce bottle

Play time until dinner

6:30 Dinner. She gets the two containers [of solids]; at least one has meat in it at dinner.

Right after dinner, we do bath time, generally 10-15 minutes sitting in the tub playing with her toys.

After bath, she plays until we can see she's getting tired.

7: 30 p.m. Her final bottle.

Brush her teeth on the way to bed, whether she's awake or not.

7:30 or 8 p.m. Put her in her crib.

Most nights, she doesn't wake at all at night, but sometimes she wakes herself up by rolling around.
