Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I tested on Sunday with a BFN and AF is actually due tomorrow -- could I have just tested too early?

Re: I tested on Sunday with a BFN and AF is actually due tomorrow -- could I have just tested too early?

The Bump Expert

Good question -- pregnancy test timing is tricky. Home pregnancy tests detect the presence of a pregnancy hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine. During the first few weeks of pregnancy, the level of hCG in the urine increases rapidly, doubling every 2 to 3 days! That’s why you may have greater luck with an HPT if you wait until after you miss your period. The accuracy also varies because your menstrual and ovulation cycle can fluctuate from month to month. Plus, the exact day the fertilized egg implants can vary. Until implantation occurs and the placenta starts to develop, there is no hCG to be detected. Finally, each home pregnancy test kit has a different sensitivity to hCG.

So while it’s true that some HPTs can detect hCG up to four or five days before a missed period, it doesn’t work for everyone! The FIRST RESPONSE Early Result Pregnancy Test, for example, can be used as early as four days before you expect your period. But when used at that time, only 69% of pregnant women will test positively. That means 31% will get a false negative! Once your period is actually late, the result will be 99% accurate. Meaning, no second guessing and (hopefully) lots of celebrating!

re: Q: Pregnancy Test Timeline?

Is one brand better than another?

sheilamatt2005 | April 18 , 2007 4:02 PM

re: Q: Pregnancy Test Timeline?

I don't think brand matters that much, although each brand is made to detect different levels of hCG. I used different brands with both pregnancies (this time I'm just 3 weeks along) and got positive results both times about a week before my period was even due.

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

if you're really concerned about being pregnant and OTC tests aren't giving you straight answers, try to get your doctor to order you a blood test. They detect hCG's much sooner and can actually tell you how little or how much hCG is present.

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

I used Walmart's Equate brand, and it had no problems telling me I'm pregnant. :-) Of course, it was also a couple weeks after my period should have been.

rachelb823 | December 02 , 2007 8:20 AM

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

It depends on the timing of your specific body, not the brand of the test. I got a false negative 4 days before my expected period, and a positive on the day my period was due. If you want to be sure, wait until your period is late, and then confirm with a blood test at your doctor.

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

i've been off birth control since the beginning of November, and wasn't taking it regularly right before than anyway. i've been nauseous so i tried a test and it was negative. is it too soon to already be pregnant? since i don't know WHEN my next period could be, could my test possibly have been a false negative?

amordemar | December 04 , 2007 2:05 PM

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

I have no idea when to test. My DD is 6 months old and I have not yet had a period; nor have I completely stopped nursing--in the process of weaning. I have been testing on Sunday mornings (which is expensive to test each week) and I had BFN this past Sunday. However, I am so incredibly nauseaus this week I keep hoping I'm pg and it was a false negative. Nonetheless, is it too soon to test again or should I wait for Sunday. Oh, it's important that I know if I'm pg asap because I had two mc due to low progesterone. I was able to have a successful pg with A LOT of progesterone.

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

Princess, you should just wait it out. When I stopped using BC, AF was very erratic, took a few months to become predictible. Wait until you miss your period a few days, then test.

My cycle was suppose to come on on the 12th and on the 15th I took a pregnacy test from Family Dollar and it was positive. I think you should always wait until you miss your period other wise you risk the chances of getting wron results.

What are the chances of a false positive...especially if I take more than one test and brand? I just wouldn't wnat my hopes up for nothing!

Does anyone know how soon you can get a postive reading with a blood test? I missed some of my pills (not on purpose I swear) about 2 weeks ago and I've been feeling really nauseated and worn out the past few days. My cycle isnt supposed to start until the monday after next.

laughingwild | January 27 , 2008 11:34 AM

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

I have never heard of someone having a false positive. A nurse told me that rarely a home test will give you a false negative, but it will never give you a false positive. It only shows as positive if the horomone is present, and if it's present, then you are preggo!

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

Hi everyone. I'm new to teh blog. My honey and I have been trying since the summer and I am so discouraged right now. I am NEVER late...EVER. I tell you, I', like clockwork. My AF was due yesterday, and since nothing happened, I got excietd, jumped the gun and went to the hospital to get a test taken. Not blood, urine. Anyway, I almost died when it came back negative. But here I am another day and no AF. I hope that it was a false negative, but I am so anxious I can't even sleep. This is terrible. Yeah, I just needed to vent without bursting into tears :) Good Luck everyone!!!

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

This waiting period is quite nerve recking. I wish there was a sooner way to find out rather than when you miss your period or a few days before. Are there any signs before missing your period??I wish everyone alot of baby luck because this is such a stressful process & I had NO IDEA.

ttehrani | February 05 , 2008 11:27 PM

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

This process is extremely stressful... especially for an impatient woman like myself! I expect AF around the 23rd of this month... but my cycles vary quite a bit... could be sooner. I would love to test as early as this weekend but am sure it is probably too early. How do you all stand the wait?

BarryHappy | February 13 , 2008 3:34 PM

re: Q: Too Soon For Pregnancy Test?

I too am waiting to test and praying my AF doesnt visit this month. I can recommend something that helps with the waiting though. A Bachs emedy called IMPATIENS which I add a few drops of to my tea. It helps to calm the nerves and frequent visits to the loo to check!

My DH and I had sex the week I was ovulating, and according to an ovulation calendar, the day after I was ovulating. I'm not sure if I'm just anxious but I keep getting this feeling that goes from my chest to my stomach, feels like a rush, is that a sign that I'm pg? Im not suppose to start my period until July 9th. Can I be pg?

re: Q: Too soon for pregnancy test?

I think I'm in the same boat as a lot of people. I lost my luggage with my BC in it on a recent trip and so my husband and I decided it would be a good time to TTC. My last AF was on July 4 and has not returned. Since I was on BC for a few years, I'm not sure what my cycle is, and have take to test, that have turned up negative; however, I am having similar feelings, tiredness, cramp and no AF. I really hope I could still be pg, but I'm getting sick of waiting for something to happen.

re: Q: Too soon for pregnancy test?

I am so right there with y'all. My hubby and I aren't actively TTC but for the past week and a half to two weeks I have been exhausted and my bbs are RIDICULOUSLY sore. Since this has never been a problem for me during my cycle it kind of put my radar up. Then DH was out of town for 5 days for work and when he got home he mentioned that "the girls" looked bigger and fuller. Friday, (2 days before AF was due) I took a HPT...negative. Saturday night I started spotting lightly and figured that was it, AF was in town no baby for us. Had a little through yesterday (when AF was actually due) and then nothing. So now I guess I'm technically one day late and took a test this morning...still negative! I am so frustrated! I've had ab twinges, but not like how I get with AF. I'm also incredibly regular...never ever late. I guess I'm mostly freaked out b/c last time something like this happened I MC. Should I just give it up this month or retest if AF doesn't show up in a few more days?

re: Q: Too soon for pregnancy test?

I'm so confused about this whole TTC process. I do not have a regular P. I go for months at a time without getting it and sometimes I get it back to back and once it lasted for two weeks straight. I've been pregnant 3 times 1 by abortion and two by miscarriage. I never know when to test because if i miss a P i just think it's normal. I'm familar with the symptoms of being pregnant so i just wait for those. I feel like i might be but i just too a test and it was negative. I don't know if it's too early or not. Should I test every week or every month?

re: Q: Too soon for pregnancy test?

I took an EPT Digital test around 5pm today and was thrilled when it said "PREGNANT" so I went to the store and got several other kinds of tests just to make sure. First Response Gold said -NO so I got frustrated. Then I took a Clear Blue Easy Digital and it said "PREGNANT". Then I took the 2nd FR & again it said -NO!!! By the time I took the last Digital CBE it was 9pm and I was basically forcing myself to Pee! It came out "NOT PREGNANT". I am so frustrated! I don't know what to believe - I am 2 days late & we've been TTC for 4 months so I really hope we are expecting! Any advice???

So my hubby and I are not actively ttc but if it happens we would be excited and I am on an antibiotic for a sinus infection and didn't know that it could affect my bc...had sex twice during this week and it should be the middle of my cycle but I've been on bc so long that I don't even really know. I have been feeling really tired w/ sore breasts & a lil bit of twinges in my stomach...any thoughts about whether I could be pregnant? And is it too soon to take a test?

re: Q: Too soon for pregnancy test?

I will just say that I've taken 3 HPT's and they all tested negative. Plus I had a blood test which came back as 1.3 and the nurse said, "I guess that is pretty much negative." I was like... you should be alittle bit clearer! But I was supposed to get AF on 9/24. Still no sign... I'm like clockwork usually. The dr. said there's nothing wrong and AF will eventually come. I'm kind of freaking out though! Has anyone experienced this before? I was having some "syptoms" and thought I was preggers, but I've been feeling a little better that last few days. What do I do?

AF was supposed to come last Tuesday, I had some spotting but no AF. I tested and it was negative. We were in Cabo celebrating our 1 year and all week I had to pee every 10 min, boobs hurt so bad, tired..but I didn't think anything of it because I was spotting so I thought it was AF. Took a test today and it's positive! I'm sick with a sinus infection so that on top of my preggo symptoms are not nice! Hubby and I are in shock! re: Q: Too soon for pregnancy test?

My personal oppinion is to use a digital test. I had 3 negative tests using non-digital tests about 3 days apart starting 3 days before anticipated onset of period (but I tend to be a bit irregular). The 1st positive test was non-digital and I did it in a.m. but it was really hard to tell. I did a digi one later that evening & it came up positive right away. Just to be sure I did a non digi one then (all I had) and it was still a very faint positive. I've since retested with both styles and results are clearer but it's 2 weeks after 30 days from onset of my last period.

We have been TTC for five months now and I am really hoping to be preg this month but AF isn't due til Mon, 29th and I took two First Response today that were both negative. I think its probably too early to tell but I am so anxious! Hopefuly AF won't arrive and I'll retest on Monday. I'll stay updated on the results of that. Fingers crossed

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I got a positive yesterday (the day AF was due) and took another today and it was negative. What does that mean? I see the doctor this afternoon. I hope I'm not wasting her time, but I have fatigue, sore breasts and some cramping.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

My AF is 8 days late and I've taken 3 tests all negative. Should I wait another week or just go see my doctor? My husband and mom suggest the doctor but I don't want to jump the gun.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

AF is 3 days late and I have all the symptoms... sore breasts, ridiculously tired... but each time I test it's a BFN! AF is NEVER, EVER late... 27 days like clockwork since I went off the pill in November '08. Tom Petty said it well, "The waiting is the hardest part!" (However, I highly doubt he was referring to this! LOL)

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I have a weird situation. I'm hoping that someone can give me some help. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past 7 months. I also started using the Clear blue fertility monitor. I have a very regular cycle and have my period every 28-29 days. Last month I ovulated at day 14 (I was out of town and my husband I couldn't try). This month is when things get a little tricky. I ovulated on day 27 (the day before my period). It has been 7 days since I ovulated and I am now 6 days late on my period. I have had some cramps the first few days, but nothing happen. I finally used a pregnancy test when I got up and it came back negative. Is it too soon to be testing? Should I see a doctor? Could I be pregnant or is something wrong with me? Please help!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

To all the ladies with the positive pregnancy tests: You can only get a false positive if you have just given birth or you misread the test. A HPT tests for the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) This is only present when a glycoprotein is secreted by the placenta, shortly after fertilization. This means that you can only get a true positive if you are in fact pregnant. So if you get a positive than CONGRATS! You are pregnant. False positives are very common so you can test multiple times and have 4 neg and 1 positive test. But as long as you get a true positive than you are truly preggo. Now, the problem here is to make sure you are reading the test correctly. There should be a clear line indicating pregnancy. if you are unsure a digital test can be inexpensive and give you a clear result. A quantitative blood test from your doctor (not qualitative) is the most accurate! Good luck!!!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

i have always used first response test (early result), it has never let me down, I've taking it as early as 1 week before my expected cycle to just 2 days before. every time i had a positive result, it was always accurate, I'm now waiting for baby #4 :)

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I waited until my period was two days late. Unless your having tons of symptoms it's better to wait. Pregnancy test aren't inexpensive. Also, even if you're having symptoms it could just be your period.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

everyone keeps saying that the tests aren't cheap. in the past i've bought test strips online at 10 strips for 5$ pretty sure that included shipping also if i don't want to wait for the delivery, i buy them at the dollar store. check your local one and see if they carry them. it's not a fancy digital one but you're just peeing on it. and they have showed pregnancy with all three of mine.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I am 5 days late for my period. My husband and I have been trying for 3 years to have a baby. We recently got pregnant but then I lot my baby at 13 weeks this past October. We decided to try again right away. I have never been late and have taken 3 pregnancy tests (digital clear blue easy) but all of them have turned out "Not Pregnant". I have tons of symptoms: headaches, backaches, nauseous, smells are strong, missed period, and I have to pee every hour to hour and a half. I am going crazy...has anyone had problems with these test strips?

I've been getting symptoms since last Tusday: nausea, cramps, diarrhea, ab twinges. My AF varies from 28-33 days so 28 days will be tomorrow. I took a test yesterday and got a BFN. I'm not totally convinced however am disappointed. I'll wait until Sunday which is sooo hard to do and then try again if AF hasn't come.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Sometimes the ones that aren't digital can give you a very faded line which can leave you wondering...I would recommend the digital ones because they make it clear one way or another. After 3 EPT and one Clearblue Digital test...we are prego!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Im so confused! I took a test 2 days after I realized I missed my period, it was negative. I waited 2 more days (4 days late) and it was negative. I used First Response and took it first thing in the morning. I did everything I could to get an accurate result! I've never been this late on a period in the past and we are TTC. What are the chances the at home tests are wrong? If I was pregnant, they should have showed positive results by now, right?

hldfrost | March 05 , 2010 10:37 AM

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

the only true way to know if ur prego is to go to the doctor and get a blood test. HCG levels can be detected and if there are high levels they will retest 2 days later to make sure the HCG is still progressing if there is any reason for concern. Good luck all!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I"m in the same boat as a lot of you girls. I went off BC after my last cycle after being on it for aout a year. My last AF was feb. 26 I think. I say this because I had 3 days of bleeding (not as heavy as my regular AF) 5 days later. I don't know if i should count the 6th as the last day. Either way, I'm late. I took 2 tests. One before i would be due for AF if i went from the second bleeding and one just last week. Both were positive. Really not sure what to do. I read the other walls about TTC after BC and a lot of ppl said that it could happen right away after coming off BC. BUT then again, there were also a lot of ppl that said that it can take a couple months. I don't know what to do and would like some advice. I just would like to know if i am PG or have my AF so that I have a starting point and can start trying for next month.

I took a Clear Blue digital test exactly five days before my period and got a positive. I wasn't expecting it to work so I tried a cheap dollar pregnancy test (yes, it was only a dollar) and tested positive on that as well, although the line was quite light.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

by doctors advice you should wait to test until 10 days after your missed period don't get me wrong we have some lucky ones out there that produce hcg faster than others (guessing it depends on the number of days between your cycle) but I have a 30 day cycle and I am now 4 days late and when I called the advice doctor at my nearest hospital she said to wait 10 days until after my missed period to take a hpt although I believe clear blue would be the most accurate between this period of time.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

we have been ttc for awhile now, my last period started April 1 (my cycles run between 40-45 days) so this puts me about a week and half past my expected period. I have taken multiple hpt and all with a BFN. I am very frustrated because I am on anti-seizure medication which makes any pregnancies high risk for me...could I be pregnant and just not have high enough hcg levels to test yet? Is that normal? My doctor can't fit me in for a blood test for 2 weeks and I can't stand waiting!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Hi everyone :) New to the site. Was wondering if anyone could give me some insight. AF is for the most part regular....usually between 28-30 days. DH and I had intercourse on what the ovulation calculator said was my most fertile day. 2 days later I had a discharge that accoridng to the description sounds like implantation bleeding. DH and I had intercourse again last night and now I am having spotting. AF is due tomorrow or Monday. Could this just be early signs of AF or if I possibly am pregnant is this spotting bad. When should I test?

I have been reading a lot of blogs that said that some tests didn't show they were pregnant until days or a couple weeks after their missed period. For some women the HCG levels weren't high enough until then. I am 5 days late and tested on day 2 of being late and on day 5. Both are negative. I wil just wait a couple more days and test again.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Just browsing thru here. I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis a little over a month ago. Sadly the RE said I may not conceive naturally. But, I started spotting a day before AF was due and I spotted for 3 days and then I had a real heavy flow for 3 days and then all of a sudden it stopped. I've been sick to my stomach, with diarreaha and lots of headaches. I took a test yesterday and it was negative. I'm not even sure what day I should consider for the starting of my cycle since I had spotting and then a flow. I just haven't felt well and I really really wanna get pregnant since we've been trying for almost 3 years. I'm so sick of waiting and always getting bad news.

Well... this will be our 3rd if we find out tomorrow that we are expecting. AF is due to start on Thursday, and so far, there are not even the slightest signs of PMS! But there have been tons of signs that we might be preggo (nausea, exhaustion, really intense cravings, etc etc.) However, like many have said, I would AT BEST wait 1-2 days after AF was to start... but if you really just can't wait... do so at least a day or two before your period, because that would be when its' the most accurate (or close to it)!! Good luck!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I tested a false negative about 6 days before my period was due. I took that as my final answer and didn't think much of it. Fast forward to 3 days after my period was due with still no period (I am very regular)...I shelled out another $20.00 and got a BFP twice. That was yesterday. So, I guess it's best to just wait until atleast your period's due date....I wasted $7.00 'cause I just couldn't wait...sigh ;)

My last visit from AF was 01/01/11. She stayed for only 2.5 days before leaving to visit other lucky ladies. Normally she visits with me for 4-5 days every 28-29 days. It is now 02/03/11 and I haven't seen her or even gotten a crampy phone call saying she's on her way. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm so excited I can barely stand it. Should I wait a few more days before testing just to be safe? I mean, I do live in Maine and the roads have been horrible lately. Maybe AF just went off the road and is stuck in a ditch?

However, there is a chance that I may be pregnant again ( stupid Valentines Day!!!) & I just got my period once since I had to stop breast feeding. So now with my pre-preg periods being so irregular I'm not even sure when to expect my usual one. Was in denial, the line seemed faint. Had 3 other ppl look at it and say what they thought. Said they saw + too! We are so happy! Just starting to notice sickness and breasts and tired. Got emotional too (but I think that was cuz someone decided to be very negative to me about pregnancy- dangers chance of miscarriage etc) sure it could happen but I don't want to hear that. My husband and I aren't really "TTC." We figure it will happen when it is supposed to. Anyway, my cycle usually only lasts 21 to 25 days. AF is due Monday-ish and I don't have any of my usual PMS. No acne, no emotional train wreck, no uncomfortable or constant cramping. However, late last week my breasts started feeling heavy and then tender. And now they get more and more sore by the day. I took one test a few days ago and it very faintly showed two lines... but I think it was too early. I want to take my other one... but yet again, it may be too early. If I am pregnant, I'm not even three weeks yet.

Me and DH have only been trying for a month, but since we had our first without even trying we were hoping that it might happen the first month off BC. We have done the "deed" all around the time of ovulation. AF is due Sun. 12. Yesterday took a First Response test. It was negative. I don't understand how we could not be preggo?! Is it possible that I just tested too early? I am sooo anxious!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

You Should Wait 2 Weeks After A Missed Period To Test For Pregnancy Or Take A More Sensitive Test Up To 5 Days Before A Missed Period..

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Just an update---So AF was due Sun. 12. But it didn't happen so I took another test on Mon. But it was negative also! Today is Tues and I still haven't started but I think I am going to take "negative" as my final answer an just wait for AF to arrive so that we can start over. I still do not understand why AF hasn't arrived considering that before BC AF was always very precise almost down to the exact hour.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Sportymom- I hope you are already preggers but if not, don't worry. Auntie Flow is just funny that way. When my Hubby and I tried to concieve I was very regular, like you. As soon as we started going to a fertility clinic (before ANY treatment), she started coming 2 days early! I also didn't understand but it doesn't matter, we're 22 weeks preggers now :) Good luck

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Sportymom- it took 3 months for my monthly to come after I stopped taking my BC pills. It can take up to 6 months for your cycle to return to normal. So don't stop trying! It will happen soon enough :)

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Hello everyone! My DH and I have been married for almost 4 months and we just started TTC! We've wanted children for so long. Because of our beliefs we didn't have intercourse until marriage, so we were ready to get started! Anyway, my "predicted ovulation day" was July 30-31. We TTC on the 31st and again on the 1st. AF is not due until the 13th, but I want to test NOW! I'm scared about the BFN, but I guess we'll just have to try again! Any thoughts?

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I'm a little sad, but still hopeful! I couldn't wait so I took a pregnancy test today and it was a BFN. However, my cycle is not due until the 13th and I used a Dollar Tree Test and I don't know how sensitive it is. Everyone, keep your fingers crossed for me!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Well, officially be 2 wks late on Aug 11 – took 2 test and negative. Been having headaches, tired all the time and sometimes nauseous. Been off the BCP since June 19 or 20th (been on it for 2 yrs) so not sure if it’s too soon??? But good luck to everyone.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Hi everyone..DH and I just started TTC but I actually just got off BC. Last pill 7/27. AF7/26. I was supposed to get AF last Monday 8/23 but haven't started yet. Taken HPT on Sun and Wed. Both BFN but still no period. Had all kinds of possible pregnancy symptoms this past month but they also could have been for other things too. When should I take the next HPT?

I just took my third pregnancy test and this time I really felt it was the one i've been nauseated for weeks my favorite candle has now made me want to vomit and can't be lit in the house and m AF is late but sadly I got a BFN and I just found myself sitting on the toilet staring at it and I started balling I feel like getting pregnant is impossible or I'm being punished and to make things worse all my friends have now announced they are pregnant or just had a baby =(

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

in response to coconutcutie, I hear you. my husband and I have been trying 10 months now and I know my period will be here any day. everyone around me is pregnant, both of my sister-in-laws, a couple of their friends, a couple of my friends, people I work with, cousins, you name it, are pregnant. I feel like it is never going to happen, but we have to stay positive because it will happen, we are just not sure when yet. Until then, we can both try to relax and have a good time with out significant others, knowing that even though life could be a little better, it is still pretty good right now. keep your chin up and good luck to you!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I hear you too, me and my husband have been trying for 5 years now!! im due AF on mon 26th but i am really hoping she doesnt show, i have been feeling nauseous, extremely exhausted to the point where i am falling asleep on the sofa most nights really early, going to the loo frequently and strange twinges every now and again all since approx 2 dpo, also last couple of days my boobs have been very sore and heavy. Me and my husband are still both quite young, im 24 and my husband is 29 and we have both been checked at fertility clinic and at first was told everything ok but now they want me to have a AMH blood test to determine how many eggs i have left! i really dont want to have to have this done as petrified they will tell me there is something wrong. I have put up with people saying it will happen but i have had 2 very early MC's both 5 - 6 weeks and i have also tried to "take my mind off of it" but everywhere i look there is a pregnant woman and this gets me quite depressed especially when its people i know who have only been trying a couple of months including my step sister who i used to be extremely close to but find it hard to be around now where she is heavily pregnant and is due next month, obviously i am over the moon for her though. Sorry for the essay but not really had anyone to talk to who is going through the same as me :( Anyway i just gotta get through this weekend now and try not to stress too much over it. Good luck to you both and please let me know how you get on.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I was trying to get pregnant and feeling really different...even though it was 7 days before my period was due I decided to take the test for fun ( I bought it in bulk :) haha) and it showed a faint positive line! The pregnancy test (clearblue) said that if the line was there no matter how faint it was positive...I was happy but still didn't really believe it...its now the day my period is due and I took another one and its a straight up positive! super dark lines and the result was almost instant! It really can vary from womam to woman. And I think it really depends on when the egg was implanted...as I know the exact days I had sex and they were a few days before my supposed ovulation date, so I think everything started early and the hcg hormone started growing quickly.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

My husband and I have been trying for 2 months. Since I have been off of the pill, I have been getting AF on Sundays. I took a test the day after my missed period and it was a negative. However, I didn't take it in the morning during my "first" pee like I was told to. I have been told it could still be too early because I didn't have as much hCG and that is why the test came out negative. I am now on day 2 of my missed period. I am going to try again in a couple of days. Keeping my fingers crossed! I say take a test a few days after your missed period. You will most likely have the result you are looking for :)

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

My husband and I have been TTC for about 3 months now and nothing. Since I've been off the pill (which was the end of June) I've been having really irregular periods. However, even when I was on BC I had irregular periods, but not this bad. My first period after going off BC was 37 days, then the second was 28 days. Now, I'm going on day 46 and still no period. I've taken 3 HPTs and they have all come up negative. You can imagine my disapointment thinking that I am preggers cuz it's been so long. The only thing that I can think of that would make me miss my period is that I've started working out 4 days a week and that my body is going through a change. I usually get my period the last week of every month, so I guess I'll see if I get it in the next week or so. Does anyone have any advise as to what I should do?

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Hello! I'm new on here and came across this question, I noticed a lot of additional questions but very answers.... hopefully I can offer some words of advice. If you know when you ovulate (generally midway through your cycle, for instance the average 28 day cycle ovulation typically occurs around day 14) it can help determine when you can take a home pregnancy test. Implantation occurs anywhere from 6 to 12 days after ovulation. Once the fertilized egg implants into the uterine lining the hormone hcg is released. Hcg aka "the pregnancy hormone" can be detected by serum (blood) approximately in 3 days while urine home pregnancy tests can detect the hormone in about 4 to 5 days. Using these numbers it would calculate to just around time of your period...therefore it is generally best/most accurate to wait until after your missed period to test. If you can't wait until AF arrives some home pregnancy test boast testing up to 6 days before your missed period (with the disclaimer of possibilities of false negatives)...each day closer to your period accuracy improves. And just like others have mentioned, hcg is only released during pregnancy, so any positive result no matter how faint the line is accepted as a true result...meaning yes, are PREGNANT!!!!! Good luck to all you hopeful moms-to-be out there!!!!!! Ps: if you are having difficulties determining when you ovulate you can buy an over the counter ovulation prediction kit. I personally am using the one from Clear Blue Easy...I have been on birth control pills for about 10 years. After discarding my last pack, it took about 3 months for my period to regulate, now that it has this month I am using the Ovulation predictor kit....hopefully with positive resukts

MrsLainyA | October 16 , 2011 7:43 PM

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Oops...clicked submit my mistake.... So to conclude, the ovulation kits are very easy to use but are not cheap ($40 to $60)! Clear Blue Easy makes one that you begin testing about 6 days after AF arrives and test daily (by urinating on the sticks provided) until you get a smiley face. It monitors for your leutenizing hormone (LH) surge which precedes ovulation by generally 24 to 36 hrs...so once you get that smiley face, ovulation should be about 24 to 36 hrs away! Good luck everyone!!!!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I am so fustrated with results of hpt's. I am currently 6 days late and we have been TTC since August. I was on BC for a few years prior. Each test I have taken comes back negative. No idea what to do since I am tierd, have some nausea, and lower abd pain which sounds like round ligament pain. Not sure when to take next hpt or if I should call a doc. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Okay so I am now 7 days late and decided to call the doctor. I was told to come in this week for a blood test and review of things I should be doing. It is exciting even though I still had a negative result from HPT yesterday. The doc said she thinks congrats are in order since most HPT's aren't good untill you are 6 weeks along and I could be only 3 or 4 weeks. Keep you updated and hope everyone gets the result they want soon. The waiting game is no fun. Good luck to all!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Just got a positive HPT!!! First response worked for me. I can only be 4 weeks pregnant! I have an extremely strange cycle and thought getting pregnant would take forever! Well, I got my period Oct 25th, we got married Oct 28th, and started trying immediately. My day 14 was Nov 8. I started feeling strange, cramping, boobs hurt, then my lower stomach above my pubic bone seemed really bloated yesterday... I normally bloat higher in my abdomen. Took the test this morning (urine is most concentrated, which is very important for the test when you aren't that far along), and TAH DAH!!!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I stopped taking BC over a year ago b/c it was messing with my hormones and giving me AWFUL mood swings. Since then, I've used an app on my iPod touch to track my cycles and it gives you an estimation on when you should ovulate. Last month my DH and I didn't check the calendar and I am currently 4 days late. Over the past year my cycles have fluctuated between 28 and 30 days, but more often than not it was 28 days. I took a test on day 2 of my missed period and the morning of the 3rd, both BFN. I used the Equate brand that is compared to First Response. I don't know if I'm prego but I have been exhausted, moody, slightly nauseous and my nipples are sore (not my entire chest though...). We would be thrilled to be expecting, but I don't want to get my hopes up. How much longer should I wait before I take another HPT?

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I am now 3 to 5 days late for my AF, i have been feeling nauseous, cramping on and off during the day. After about a week since i had sex, i had a brownish red color bleeding that didnt even last a whole day. I have been extremely tired, at work all i want to do is sleep, i have been going to bed a whole lot earlier, i have been peeing more, and thirsty all the time i even wake up just to get a drink. im bloated which i know could be part of my period but this has been going on for over a week now and i still have not started. I took a home pregnancy test the day after my AF was due but it was negative. I dont know if it's all in my head or what. Is there anyone who can give me on some advice or tell me what other reasons i could be going through this? Thank you. If i dont start my AF by the end of the month im going to go get a blood test.

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Guess I jumped the gun taking the tests, my AF came 6 days late. I didn't think I'd be too upset since we weren't planning on getting pregnant anyway, even after the 2 BFN I was ok... but when I finally started... it was kind've devastating. Life moves on and so will I, we're planning on really TTC this summer but I really hope the rest of you have some BFPs soon!!! As andreastillion put it- "Baby dust to you all!"

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

Hello! I'm in the same boat here, currently on CD 38 of a genuinely regular 30 day cycle. My boyfriend and I used ZERO protection and laid together at least once a week every week in the month of November. I have had 4 miscarriages in the past and each time I was able to find out by 4 weeks. Now I have tested 4 times, both before and after my period was due (on the 7th of every month.....) and every one has come out negative. I've been having a truck load of symptoms: congestion, back ache, vomiting, nausea, constipation, moodiness, light headed, metallic taste in my mouth on occasion, very excessive lotiony white discharge (so much that it feels like AF and I have to wear a panty liner to keep from chaffing from all the moisture down there), tender breasts, cramps (light cramps, with AF they can be hellacious to mild), unbearably sensitive nipples and now headaches. I am convinced I'm preggers. So, because I've got aaaall this going and and STILL no AF, my honey and I decided to order the 10miu pregnancy tests since I've read alot of people havent been able to test positive due to low hcg...*sighs* Has anybody gone through this and ended up being pregnant? feed back is appreciated and I will update as soon as the tests come in the mail! WISH ME LUCK!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I took a First Response test about 8 days after I ovulated and BFN. I retested on day 11 w/ another First Response and got a VERY faint pink line. So faint, I thought it was just from the steam in the bathroom or something as I was taking a shower. I took another test - a digital one- and got "Not Pregnant". I was so discouraged. Then what seemed like an eternity later (the next day), I bought some more of the First Reponse tests and there's no mistaking it...we are very pregnant!!!!!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I got off BC a little over a month ago because my husband and I wanted to start trying next month and I figured it wouldn't hurt to get off of it soon and just use condoms. Well, I am either really fertile or something is up with my cycle because no AF came on Sunday(4 days ago) and I have never missed a period. Tests show negative results so far and I have sore breasts and nipples, little nausea twice and fatigue. My sis said she didn't get positive results until her 5th week(I'm ending my 4th) so I still could be. But, I still wonder if something is just up with my cycle...don't want to get my hopes up! Waiting stinks!!

Q&A: When to take a pregnancy test?

I took two pee on the stick type. One on 9 days past ovulation was a negative, and the other this morning 12 days past ovulation faint positive! OMG I'm so excited. It was unplanned but I am thrilled. I knew I was pregnant based on the symptoms starting 3 days after ovulation, but the neg test really made me sad. I was sure I knew my body better then that. So I started reading how long before I could test I found this amazing website. If you want to know your result chances just click on how many days past ovulation and is shows percentages of very faint pos, faint pos, standard pos, strong pos, blood pos, neg, and evap (what ever that is) Surprise surprise the blood test and the evap are the weakest link ladies. check out the site its amazing ohh and the calendars super cool. I would love to see the bump put in a direct link to this site for you all.
