Q&A: Pregnancy tests and the Pill?

Can the Pill alter pregnancy test results?

Re: Can the Pill alter pregnancy test results?

The Bump Expert

Your question makes sense, because the Pill contains hormones, and home pregnancy tests work by measuring hormone levels. However, birth control contains estrogen or progesterone (or both), while pregnancy tests look for a different hormone called hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). So, birth control has no effect on home pregnancy tests.
