Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

How long will it take to get pregnant after I get off my birth control?

Re:

How long will it take to get pregnant after I get off my birth control?

The Bump Expert

Ovulation could return as early as the next menstrual cycle after you stop taking birth control pills, although regular cycles (every 24 to 32 days) could be delayed for a few months. Once your ovulatory cycle does return, your chances of getting pregnant are about 20% per month. If regular cycles don’t return within six months after you stop taking birth control, talk with your doctor.

If I am getting my period 28-30 days since being off BCP, can I assume I am ovulating regularly?

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I've been on Allesse for several years and actually don't get my period at all even during the "off" week of the pill. I just finished my last pack of the pill. Any idea on when I would get my first period?

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

it's been 42 days since my last period. that was two days after i stopped taking my bc. we've been ttc since then as well. i've taken a couple tests and they have come back negative. i'm getting a little frusturated. what do i do? should i wait to see if i get a period soon or what?

RC31604 |

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

RC31604 - sounds like you and I are in the same boat. the first day of my last period was 7/3/07. I've taken three tests and they are all negative. I'm so confused. I know they say it may take a while to get back on track - but I have never had any problems. I've even started to feel "symptoms" which I think is my body's reaction to me wishing I was pregnant. I feel things that I never have before and am just totally lost. Glad I'm not the only one out there. I just wish I'd get my period so I could have some sort of starting point. UUUUGGGGHHHH!!!

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I'm on seasonale and have been on it for the last 2 years. Is it the same factors as those that have been on the conventional monthly pill? There have been a few times where I've missed some pills, but the confusion is having to wait until the 90 days from the inital period to find ou if I'm getting it again.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I was pregant 2 weeks after going off the pill. (I was on Orthro Tru Cyclen for 10 yrs) I had no clue at first b/c I figured I would be late anyway and never had a 'real' period so I thought I was just having PMS. I am still amazed I got pregnant that quickly.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I went off the pill in 12/06 and am still having weird cycles. I went to the doctor and she thinks it is stress related (recent graduate) and that it may take up to 3 months for my body to get back to normal. She also took blood and said I had a "slightly fixed" uterus...whatever that means! I also have to go in for a transvaginal ultrasound next week...this all so new so I hope it isn't painful! Good luck to all of you!

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I have only taken one shot of Depo Provera and have had horrible side effects for the last three months (including having my period for the last two months) and my husband and I have decided to no longer take contraceptives. How long should I expect to "get back to normal" and be able to conceive? I am just worried about the long term side effects of the Depo shot.

TheLittlestOne |

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I'm with you AppleRed07. I was on Seasonale as well. My doctor tells me that it can take about 3 months to really have a chance of conceiving just like regular BC pills. I stop taking BC at the end of June and last week should be my 3rd ovulation since being off the pill. I got my period right on schedule at the end of every month. Hopefully this time I will get pregnant. Cross you fingers everyone and good luck to eveyone.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I am glad and sad to hear that I am not the only one out there having troubles TTC. I stopped taking Ortho 4 months ago and nothing yet. I have even started taking prenatal vitamins since I heard that helps your chances by providing your body with those "essentials" that you don't get normally. I am hoping next month brings better luck and best of luck to all of you.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that is having these feelings. I got off bcp the beginning of August and had a normal period at the end of last of August. However, I am currently 5 days late for this period. We are not currently trying but if it happens we will be greatful. I feel hungry a lot and pee all the time. I'm thinking of taking a test to find out for sure tonight. I'll keep y'all posted.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I have been told by several people that since I'm having TTC and have a pretty irregular pd, one good way to try to get pregnant is to get on the pill for a few months, like 3-5 and then get off and that should make me regular and I should get pregnant shortly after coming off BC. Does anyone think this holds high chances for me, or will I just be taking something to keep me from getting what I want now anyway?

arcangel03 |

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I started taking ortho tri-cyclen lo in dec.2004. Last Nov I stopped taking them, and eventually decided a few months later to get back on the pill because I couldn't stand not knowing when my period was going to stop and end.. Then we decided in September that I was going to stop the pill, my period was a few days late and now it's been 9days and my period hasn't stopped.. We want to try to get pregnant, but if I'm always bleeding, it makes it difficult.. Is there something wrong with me??

Bec423 |

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I am finding all of this very interesting. I was put on BC when I was 16 due to eratic and very long periods (10-15daysm min). BC helped regulate me and caused my periods to be about 4-5 days. I am now 24. My Dr. told me at a recent appointment that I might have trouble getting pregnant because of the problems I have with my period before. She told me the best time, that is, the time I am most likely to get pregnant is the first month I am off BC. She says that the 3 month rule is just a myth.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

Talked to my husband last night and he wants to wait until the beginning of the year to TTC. He doesn't want us to waste the money we spent on it. I'm only taking it 4 weeks at a time instead of all at once. I'm getting anxious after I finish the last month's worth!

this is not easy as i thought getting pregnant would be easy but i stopped taking the pill in march and end of april i missed my period and took several test all came positive. then went to the doctor and that also make back positive. when i went ot see my obgyn in May she couldnt find anything and i then had my period.so we have not tried since and are only now starting again and i hope for the best .

It's been 38 days since my last cycle when I finished BC. We are TTC and I keep thinking that I am feeling PG signs. I have taken a couple of tests and they are all negative. It's so frustrating and I'm not very patient. What do I do? Is there anything other than just waiting to get my period?

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I was on the patch for 3 year, tried seasonal for one 90 day cycle, hated it and switched to Ortho Tri Cyclen for 2 cycles before throwing out the pill all together to TTC. I had 3 fairly regular cycles 26-30 days and then I had one that was 40 days (I was convinced I was PG...but no)! My last cycle was 28 days and my skin has been breaking out like crazy. Hopefully this means all the BC is out of my system and I'm going to be regular from now on. But that 40 day cycle is making it really difficult to figure out when my best days to concieve are.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I was pregnant two weeks after going off the pill and we weren't even trying! My doctor says that some people have a heightened fertility period for two weeks after going off the pill, but a majority of people have to go 3 months or so to resume normal fertility. I guess it was just meant to be in our case.

re: Q: Conceiving After Birth Control?

I agree with many of you, I have been off the pill since december, I had like one regular period, twice in one month and then none, took million tests all negative, got period after 30-40 days, makes it impossible to try to follow a chart on conception, having breakouts, back pain and yes, I do think the vitamins make me sick.

I was on the pill for seven years before getting off to TTC. I have been off for about 3 1/2 months, but I have only had one period. Tomorrow will be exactly 4 weeks since i was supposed to start my last peroid. I have taken several pregnacy tests, but all came back negative. The last test I took was about a week ago, so I plan to retest in the morning. I'm guessing that I will also call my Dr. tomorrow either way. What do you think???

re: Q: Conceiving after birth control?

My husband and I are going to stop taking the pill at the end of the year in hopes to conceive early in the spring. Do you think that it will be adequate time in order to concieve by March or April?

pytbride07 |

re: Q: Conceiving after birth control?

I had a pre-pregnancy appointment with my doctor yesterday. She said that the average time to conceive for most couples after stopping BC is 3-6 months. Not what I wanted to hear, since I wanted a spring baby, but you never know for sure. That is just the average timeframe. There are people who conceive just after stopping BC, and others that take longer. She said just watch your period. Once it starts getting more and more regular once you're off, then your chances are greater. The first period after stopping could be closer to 30-35 days. Take the prenatal vitamins and know your ovulation schedule. Have intercourse every other day...and Good Luck!

My husband and I decided to start TTC on June 21st I had a period that started on June 24th and ended on July 1st. Now it has been 38 days since my last period started so I am 10 days late but I took a test on July 20th ( 1 day before missed period) and then again last Friday July 25th (4 days after missed period) both were negative. Did I just take the test too soon or could I be preggo?

Fanny and Javier |

re: Q: Conceiving after birth control?

Fanny, from what I understand, your body probably never got a chance to get used to being on bc, so you can probably just expect things to be like you never took them... were your periods normal before? if so then wait until you miss one to take a test. You can always call your gyno and ask what she thinks. Also, why at 19 are you having unprotected sex, did you skip health class or something??

re: Q: Conceiving after birth control?

I was on birth control pills for 3 years when i stopped them a few months ago. I didnt get a period for 65 days, so I took hpt's all the time and I was sure that it was false negatives or an ectopic pregnany. Turns out the pill was just messing with my body because of all the hormones. I was fine the next month. During those 65 days my breasts were sore and swollen, I had to pee often, it was like pregnacy symptoms. Basically what i'm saying is that unfortunately, a period after bcp can take a long time and be very confusing for some people.

re: Q: Conceiving after birth control?

I am so unbelievably frustrated. In 2007 I was on NuvaRing. My pharmacy screwed up and I didn't get the new one in time so I skipped it that month and despite how careful we thought we were, the hubby and I wound up pregnant. Sadly that pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 8 weeks. Now we are actually TTC. I took my last BC pill at the end of December 2008 and got my period on the "green" week like normal. My next period was lighter than usual and 2 weeks late. My next was a couple of days early but otherwise perfectly normal. That period started on March 23 and I haven't had a period since. So far 2 HPTs have said negative, 1 the day I missed and 1 last night. Am I still trying to regulate or could I be preggers and they just can't detect it yet? I am 5 days late and getting antsy ....

I've also had problems with the Nuvaring. DH and I decided to start TTC in March so I took it out on my scheduled day and got the first period right on time. I haven't had a period since though. I've also taken a ton of hpt's that just keep coming back negative which is so depressing! I went to my obgyn early on and she told me to wait three months and see what happened. It's been about three and a half now so I'm waiting till the end of the week, taking one more hpt (it's in the cupboard I might as well use it), then calling her. It's just so frustrating! I'm also a little confused, is it even possible to get preggo if I haven't had a period since stopping bc?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Your OB/GYN can prescribe you Progera so you can get you period again. Next buy a ovulation kit or calculate your ovulation cycle which about 13-14 days after your first day of menstrual cycle and maybe take Clomid from your doctor to get pregnant.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

It is interesting to see that other people that have used The Nuva Ring are experiencing the same problems as I am. I was on The Ring for approximately one year....I took it out after I got married, and the following month, November, I got it just in time, then in December it came one week late, and Januray it came two weeks late, and then in February it came three weeks late. After that I did not have a period for 4 months! I went to the doctor and she prescrived me Provera (estrogen pill) which made me get my period in June... but now here I am again in July and I am two weeks late and not pregnant! I can't help but worry that by going on the Nuva Ring that I messed up my cycle. This makes me nervous because it took my mother 5 years to get pregnant with my brother...and I really don't want to go through such a struggle to conceive. ugh.

ok first of it it's very hard right after you stopped taking birth control after 7 or more years. I took birth control for 12years and didn't get pregnant for a year and some odd months after. You're body needs times to weed it all out. Most of my friends back home took 4 months or move with only taking birth control 1 to 2 years of thier life.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I've been on several different pills on and off for about six years now. I came off of the BC pills because I was having issues - not having any periods and I kept freaking out/getting excited that I might be pregnant. Unfortunately I never was - so my husband and I finally decided to start ttc. I've now been off for nearly 6 months - I went to my first prepregnancy consult today with a new gyno - since mine was no help whatsoever. The new Dr said that since I was on the pill for so long not having a period that my body is still adjusting. Basically since I am finally starting to get heavier periods again I might be able to get pregnant soon. Prior to now she thinks the lining was still building back up from being on BC and not having a period or having a very light one (which would mean not much lining to attatch to.) Anyway maybe that will help some of you - I am going to pray that it might finally happen sometime soon because I am getting overly anxious.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I feel comfort in knowing I'm not the only one that worries about this. I came off the pill in July of 2008. From July to February I got my period on the 3rd of every month. March, it came Friday the 13. Nothing in April, May it was the 18, and June it was the 28. Nothing in July, and I got it August 3rd. I'm confused. We've had so many false hopes, and it gets so frustrating. Good luck everyone!

Shockingly! 2 weeks after stopping OrthotriLo (i was taking it for 9 years) i got pregnant. Imagine my surprise when i was a a day late and the test was positive! I am going to the Dr. today to confirm. I am so nervous about miscarrage and ectopic. I hope everything is OK! wish me luck and i am thinking good baby thoughts for everyone!!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had been on nuva ring for about two years and the patch for years before that. We started TTC in May of this year and I found out I was pregnant last week. It didn't take too long. I was very anxious and disappointed when my period came. My husband was a great support and just told me that we would keep trying and not to be stressed over it. So, last month I really tried not to think about it and it happened. I agree with annierific. I am wishing good baby thoughts for everyone!

I finished my last bc pill June 20 and have seemed fairly regular with the 2 cycles that I've had since then. My husband and I are going to start TTC in the new year...right now I am focusing on preparing my body for being pregnant. Need to lose some newlywed weight = ) I wish everyone luck!

Congratulations beachgirl78 and annierific!!! Beachgirl- that's great news and is good to hear. I also have gone off the Nuvaring 2 months ago, after two year of using it. We just started TTC and was wondering how long it could take. Did you keep track of your ovulation at all? Thanks and congrats again!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

It took me about 6 months to get pregnant after I stopped taking my birth control. The Dr. told me it would take anywhere from 3 months to 6 months and she was correct. She did on the other hand suggest that I start taking Prenatal viitamins right away so that I can find the ones I liked and get used to them (one brand i took made me sicker than a dog and the new brand is working out very well haven't been sick at all!)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

i was on Ortho Cyclin for 12 yrs and got off shortly after my husban and i got married. I didnt think to wait because i was sure that being on the pill for that amount of time would probably not allow my body to conceive- well a month and a half later i got pregnant. Every woman is different. we ended up having a m/c after 7 weeks. I was so taken back and blamed everything including my pill history- turns out.. m/c are just really common. So, when the body wants to conceive it will. Good luck - Still trying :)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had an IUD for 2 1/2 years and started having a sparatic period so I had it removed and I went on Loestrin 24 which I loved because I had no period! DH and I just decided to try for our second baby (Jenna will be 3 in 15 days) I am hoping for a quick BFP! I called to dr and he gave me samples of PreNa Vit but said OTC are fine too. I have taken a couple days of the vitamins and I already am feeling the pg symptoms... I would be so happy to already be preggo! But I am trying to relax. My tummy is cramping now so maybe that is a good sign that I will have a regular period immediately and be able to predict O much easier, GL to all my TTC peeps!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

my husband and i decided to TTC and i went off my pill early july. i was a bit concerned since i was diagnosed with endometriosis 8 years ago and have been on a continuous pill (norethendrone) ever since (NO periods in eight years!). so far, i had about 6 days of spotting immediately after going off the pill and then nothing ... today is day 62 of my cycle! i've taken 4 pregnancy tests, all negative, and my doctor said it could take some time to get everything regulated again. i've been trying to track my temp and it's ALL over the place. i've been going to the acupuncturist and she just put me on some herbs that will hopefully induce a period. i'm getting frustrated.

I have been on bcp for about 10 years now... my husband and I want to start trying soon, but I am so scared that it will take a very long time to get pregnant... especially that I have high cholesterol and anemia. I was on Seasonique for the past year and different types of bc for the past 6 years. My first cycle after stopping bc was normal, but this last one is 3 weeks late. So, I called my obgyn and he order lab tests. He said that I was not ovulating yet and he is going to put me on progesterone to get things started again! He said that I should keep track of when I ovulate and hopefully I will get pregnant soon! I go in this week again. If I learn something new, I'll let you all know! GOOD LUCK LADIES!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Im so happy to hear that other women are having the same problems I am having. I was on Nuvaring. I became sick in the middle of July so I decided to take my ring out. To my suprise, I had my period three days later. After that we decided to come off the birth control and try to conceve. I ddn't have my period around the time I had it the previous month. I took a pregnancy test and was negitive. So we thought that maybe I would have my period around the time I had it when I was on the birth control. Well I still have not gotten my period. I took anouther test and it still is negitive. Im almost two weeks late. My husband and I are going nuts cause we are so confused over the whole thing.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My husband and I just celebrated our 1st Anniversary and we have been TTC. I was on bc for about 8 years taking a few different ones. I've been off the pill for about 4 months now with no results. The first month I thought I was pregnant but I just got negatives. Called my doctor and she gave me provera to help regulate my system. It worked but I think it's happening again...no period. I haven't taken a test yet...been using the First Response ovulation tests. I'm not even sure how long my cycle is anymore. If it's the regular 28 days then I'm two weeks late. I'm going to wait it out two more weeks. I'm just so frustrated...I feel really different this time around. Does anyone feel almost a lightheaded feeling?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I need to finish graduate school, which should happen in August (or sooner if needed). My husband and I have talked a lot about TTC but I'm still on BC (Ortho). I've been on BC for 13 years, never off, barely skipped a pill. If I go off now, what's the chance of me getting pregnant soon? I would prefer we waited until after August. Let me know your thoughts.

frecks2112 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Sparkle49, you have me worried now. I just got off the pill and had been on birth control for 7 going on 8 years. I am so afraid that birth control will affect my TTC functions!!! I understand your frustration. I am SCARED!!!!

msdc |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Frecks2112, it is so up and down about how soon women can conceive after taking birth control for so long. It is kinda of frustrating because it leaves you in a position to not know what to do. I just got off birth control after taking them for 7 1/2 years because I do want to start TTC sometime this Spring. Since I don't know how long it is going to take me I decided to get off months earlier. I understand in your situation you probably want to finish school first. This is a subject that no one has the right answer to because all women and their bodies vary!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been on Yaz for 2 years and on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 3 years prior to that. We just started TTC a little over a month ago. AF is now 6 days late so I took a test and (no surprise)...BFN. My cycle was very irregular before starting the pill and I also suffered from acne. Unfortunately the acne has returned since stopping BC so I guess the irregular cycles have, too. Great. I did have "ovulation symptoms" this month so I tried to use those to help with timing, but it was hard to predict the best time without knowing how long my cycle truly is. I just have to have faith that we will get pregnant when the time is right!

rac20585 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

msdc...I didn't mean to scare you! I just thought I was the only one out there who is having troubles with their cycles. We tried using the First Response Ovulation tests which showed that something was going on...not sure if I ovulated at the time the tests were showing. But if my cycle was regular than I would have been 3 weeks late...took a test on Saturday came back negative. I was even having some symptoms like cramps, a little nausea and a lightheaded feeling. But I decided to wait another 2 weeks and keep having relations then I'll take another test. If that comes back negative and still no period then I'm going to call my doctor. Maybe the cramps are a sign of me ovulating, I don't know! I guess when the times right the time is right. We decided that we aren't going to buy any ovulation tests again and just go with the flow! So we'll see in 2 weeks time.

sparkle49 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Yaz for a year and yasmin and others for over 8 years. I finally stopped in August and have been TTC but no luck just yet. I've heard that its best to give you body a rest when get off of bcp but we really want a baby. I just hope we are able to concieve and its a healthy baby.

Tortula2 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

No, you are fine sparkle49!!! Tortula2 I am in the same situation because you hear so many different things. I though birth control was just a hormone and once you go off everything goes back to normal; I guess not. I recently got off of birth control after 7 1/2 years and I have been spotting. I don't understand why!! I called my OB and she said my body is so use to the birth control hormones that it is probably confused. I feel kinda of funny because it makes me wonder if birth control really does have an effect on fertility even though research goes back and forth about it.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been on BC for 12 yrs straight. My Dr. told me that I should not have a problem getting pregnant since I was regular before BC. I stopped in March 2009 and have not had a period in 6 months. Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My husband and I have been thinking about TTC and I just had my yearly visit to my GYN. I've been on the Ortho Novum (monosphasic pill) for 8 years. My big concern was that I was VERY irregular when I started the pill and have not had a period for 6 years, just very occasional spotting (maybe ever 3 months or so) which is what is normal. My GYN told me to relax, my periods would probably still be abnormal once I went off and not to get too stressed in the beginning. He said the most important thing is to enjoy the process with my husband, I'm young so (30) so there's still plenty of time. Try for 6 months after my first cycle and then come back and we can do some hormone level tests. He said the worst thing is to become stressed out about it and get frustrated. This can really inhibit the process...I'm more worried that I took the pill for 8 years (and spent all that money) and I'll turn out infertile or something!!!

dmuscolino |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I guess I am just confused/frustrated because it vaires...there is no set answer for one woman. Some women can get pregnant within weeks of getting off of BC, while others it takes months. I took BC all throughout high school, undergrad, and grad school trying not to get pregnant, and now that I feel I am ready, I am worried that just throwing away the pill pack may not be enough:(

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I guess I am in the same boat as all of you guys with worries about TTC. Just ended my last pack on Yaz (took it about two years) about two weeks ago and had my period but I am worried that it will take me forever to start ovulating normally again. Before the pill my cycle was always shorter than normal, about 21 days so I am assuming I ovulate early. I am going to start tracking as soon as I start my period again. Wish me luck and good luck to all of you. My prayers are with you. I'll update soon!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have also used various BC since my teens. I always had a regular period before then. Most recently, I was on the nuvaring. I stopped that never got a period. I began using Answer brand ovulation strips and the fertility chart (taking my temp and cervical mucus). I got some very very light bleeding after 29 days. I have no idea what is going on with my cycle! I have passed by when I was supposed to ovulate with no change in temp, CM or ovulation strips. I feel like if after 30days since that light bldg I still don't ovulate or have another period my OBGYN is getting a phone call. I am all for being patient but if you don't ovulate, you won't conceive! Also, I will have this chart with all this info to support my theory... she will probably think I am nuts!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on the pill for about 4 years. I wanted to start TTC right after I got married, so my obgyn told me to quit taking them a month before the wedding and to start taking prenatal vitamins. I stopped the BCP, and started taking prenatals for about 2 weeks, then just forgot about them. I never had a normal period before BCP & that didn't change afterwards. It's now been 7 months since I quit taking BCP & I just found out that I'm 6 weeks pregnant. Hopefully everything will work out for everyone, it just takes longer with some people than others.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I am 24 and have been married two years. I had been on oral contraceptive for about six years (alesse and orthonovum). We decided that I should stop taking it and just see what happens. I stopped on 25 September, and figured it would take a while for my cycles to regulate. Nope! I started feeling like my period was about to arrive after a week of cramps and tender breasts. I took a pregnancy test on 30 October and it came out positive. Then I took another one to be sure. Still positive! We're very pleased, as we were ready to accept the responsibility of a baby from the second we stopped using BC. But still, happened WAY faster than I could've imagined!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

This is going to sound really stupid, but I've never had a regular cycle, it's always so erratic; this is why my doctor put me on Sprintec (Ortho Cyclen ??? something). I've been on it for 3 months, no period whatsoever; not even a sign, just headaches/fatigue. My wedding is within the next 11 months and we want to start ttc soon after/during our honeymoon. I'm confused if I should stop now or not. I'm also worried that the BC will cause problems closer to when we start ttc.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Well It's nice to know we are not the only ones having a hard time getting pregnant. I'm glad I found this website, makes me feel a little better. My husband and I got married in June I got off BC (after being off and on it for over 12 years) I stopped taking BC in May knowing it was going to most likely take a few cycles to get back to normal and even a few more to actually conceive. I never got my period, June, July and August went by finally I called my OBGYN begging for help because my hormones were so out of control, she put me on a drug to sort of jump start my cycle, which it worked and I've been regular ever since, I'm very thankful for that, as I understand it doesn't work for some people. Now I've just been trying to pinpoint my exact ovulation time. It's tough, it's emotional and stressful, if one more person tells me to sit back and relax and have fun I think I'll scream because I try very hard to not stress about it but it's easier said then done. My hubby and I are hoping for a wonderful Christmas present this year! I wish you all luck!!

Hi, I just wanted to update since my last post (5 posts up). The hormones my doc. prescribed worked. I got my period back!! Now as long as I continue to have a regular periods we will try to conceive in a few months. Amber, sounds like you may have the same problem I did. I had regular periods then all of a sudden it took 42 days and since I was late I took two pregnancy tests both were negative. then it took 3 months to get my period. I had to call my doctor and she prescribed me Provera. Its hormones. I am pretty sure it had to do with stress. I sold my condo and then had to move in with the parent in-laws for two months until we moved into our new home. Now I am happy I got my period back. Good luck to you both!!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

So I stopped my seasonale on Sunday (December 13th) I started a period yesterday. Does this mean that I might actually be able to conceive this month? Or do you think that my medicine might still effect my body to where it wont release an egg this month? I have been on BC for many a years but my body seems to bounce back from being off them very quickly. This will be my first child.

Schilton9 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

you might be, but you won't know unless you chart your basal body temp every morning. i stopped ortho tri cyclen after being on it for 13 years, and i withdrawal bled directly after, and then got a regular 4 day medium flow period 28 days later, and because i was charting, i knew i ovulated. periods are determined by ovulation, so most likely if you're getting a period you're ovulating, but not the other way around. Also - to all the women out there not getting periods and not getting pregnant - i have heard wonderful stories about Vitex - or chasteberry tree it's also called - it induces AF, lengthens the luteal phase and promotes ovulation. that's the only reason i think i was so regular right away. I'm not TTC but from stories I've heard from irregular women they were either pregnant soon after or finally had regular cycles.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had been on the NuvaRing for over a year and had breakthrough bleeding in feb 09. I decided to go off BC for a while to let my body regulate and went 6 months without a period. Once it did come back I went back on Nuva Ring for 4 months. Now DH and I decided we are TTC. It took my body 6 months to regulate last time, so we are not sure how long it will take this time, but hope it wont be too long. We dont anticipate being able to concieve in the next 3 months because we have heard that it takes at least that amount of time for the body to get all the horemone out of the system. I havent even had 1 regular cycle yet but would be super surprised if we did get pregnant right away.

I don't have a list or anything, but BFP is Big Fat Positive, DH is Darling Husband. Once you start reading enough you kind of start to figure them out but having a starting clue is helpful!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had also been on BC for years, most recently Seasonle, I stopped taking it In September and immediately had a period. I then had 2 regular periods, and then last month, only two weeks after my last period I started bleeding really heavily. My periods in the past were always pretty moderate, lasting about 4 days, and this bleeding went on for 8 days really heavily. The doctor told me my body was just not back to normal from the BC and that it could be 6 months or so before I was really ovulating normally. This suprised me because prior to this month I had been having regular periods. Now I feel somewhat discouraged knowing that my body is still not regularly ovulating. TTC can be frustrating.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Depo Provera for 6 years and after three months of taking it, I didn't have a period the entire time. I stopped in June, had two periods in October then got pregnant. I had read terrible things about trying to conceive after Depo, but I wanted to let others out there know that it is possible!!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Well, I started getting monster headaches and constipation, so I thought I might be prego cause it was odd for my body, took a test last Sunday and it was negative. Then I remembered that my body is probably having issues with constipation since I have been on a prenatal for a month now with iron, and I happen to be allergic to iron. I figure just if I "practice" every other day eventually I will conceive.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Jen&Joe & aelittle: My sister had been on BC for about 20 years b/c of super painful periods and she went off them & she waited the recommended 3 months before TTC but it then took her another 4 months to actually conceive so don't lose hope! I myself went off my BC Nov 1 & had AF right away but then had to wait another 41 days before AF came again - I am now waiting to see if AF will take as long again or going to even out a bit - I've always been very irregular when off BC - hopefully it will become consistent as that would make TTC a little easier and slightly less stressful! lol To that end however I bought a bulk package of 100 OPK for $40 off amazon.com (it even comes with an additional 20 pregnancy tests and since my AF ended just before Christmas I plan to test with the OPKs everyday until my next period comes to see if I'm actually ovulating or not! lol If I do ovulate we'll try our luck but if I'm not at least I can talk to my doctor with confidence. :)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi there! I went off the pill at the end of Nov 2009. I have been on BC for 9 years. My husband I got married in May and are ready to try. We were unsucessful in December. Although I had my period at the same time as I woud on the pill. Hoping for luck this month! The Doc didn't seem worried that I would have a difficult time when I asked during my last annual.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My doctor said most women (80%) are able to conceive within a year of going off an IUD- this is about the same as the pill.

saranjosh |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was really worried about being able to conceive because I recently came off my BC after being on it for 14 years. I took an ovulation test 14 days after the first day of my last cycle and got a positive result. Then after my next cycle, I tested for ovulation again (this time only 12 days after the start of my cycle because I actually had ovulation pains) and sure enough, ANOTHER positive result the day after Christmas. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I'm not expecting miracles right away but it's hard not to get excited! I thought for sure maybe something good was going on earlier this week because I had very light spotting and it was about a week before my period but turns out it's just Aunt Flo showing up a bit early:(

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

They say most couples can expect to get pregnant within a year after stopping birth control. For me it was 4 months. Then again everyone is different depending on your current health, age, stress level, life style etc. There is no definite answer.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My doctor told me not to go off the pill until my husband and I are REALLY ready for a baby. She said she frequently has patients become pregnant days after going off their BC, and since I'm young and healthy I should not have any problems TTC after BC.. I'm going to follow my doc's advice, but reading this message board makes me feel uneasy. On the other hand, my friend got pregnant as soon as she stopped the pill.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I started the depo shot in June 2009 and began having bad side effects after the 2nd shot. My last shot was scheduled for early November. My husband and I decided not to get the shot anymore and to begin TTC. I started spotting immediately. My doctor put me on OrthoTri Lo (generic) in mid-December to help me to stop spotting from the depo wearing off. Although the BC worked, it gave me crazy mood swings and depression so I stopped taking them after about 2 weeks and got a period immediately. Afterwards I saw no signs of ovulation. 18 days later I started another period...heavy flow, bad cramps, the works. So I'm thinking this may be the real deal and I have become NORMAL again LOL :-) My prayers are with you all.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on the pill for 14 years in a row and got pregnant within 3 weeks of coming off the pill. My OB told me it was possible, and to not go off the pill till I was ready to get pregnant and that it is a myth that it ttakes time to get the pill out of your system. I am living proof of that, as are 3 of my girl friends. Unfortunately, some people it just takes longer to concieve, although its not necesarily tied to the pill.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I've been takin BC since 2002 because I was having periods that lasted between 10-15 days. I started on Ovcon, then switched to Yaz, then to Yasmin. My husband and I are planning to TTC in August and I decided to get off of Yasmin now to let my body have a few normal cycles before we get to that point. Or to at least see if I will still be having long cycles and from there talk to my doctor about what that means and how it will effect our decision to TTC later this year. I will keep you guys posted on how that goes. We meet with him for my annual/preconception appointment in March! I'm nervous but sort of excited also! :)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My husband and I (married 6 months now, been together for 8.5 years) have decided to stop using the pill (TriNessa) after this pack, which will be this coming Saturday. I should start AF next Tuesday. I can't decide if I should use an OPK on this first month just to make sure I am actually ovulating or if I should just let things fall into place. We don't want to stress over TTC and just have fun, but I feel like I am surrounded by people who are having problems; maybe I should test to make sure we're on the right track. Any thoughts?

lrose111 |

Well, I had normal AF and of course I was disappointed because I am excited to actually concieve. I tested yesterday for ovulation (about day 16 for me) and got a BFP so test recommened to try 24-48 hours but more so within 24 hours. Wish me luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I feel ya; currently TTC after being on Seasonique for about 5 years. My cycles have always been a tad irregular, and completely stopped after I got off BC. This was back in October, and after it had been 3 months (!) with no period, I called my ob/gyn, who prescribed Progesterin. Worked like a charm! I'm hopefully ovulating again, so we shall see. Anyway, I've heard of people getting pregnant right away, and it taking up to a year with others. I'd talk to the dr. if you have an issue like mine, because it's apparently pretty easily resolved. I'd have been pretty hopeless by now if I hadn't talked to her.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hello everyone!! I'm new to this whole question and answer board. I just went off my bc about 2 weeks ago and am ttc. I know it probably wasn't really long enough before we started trying but really we are just kinda going with the flow right now. It's great to hear so many success stories but yet know that if I have trouble for a year or so that it's completely normal. I also didn't know that you should start taking prenatal vitamins to help get pregnant!!! I know I probably have a long time before I will conceive but it's so nice to have people going through the same thing.

I just tested positive this morning - AF due on 02/05..been MIA. I was actually STILL taking BCP, though!!!

monkiem |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

militarywife24- Yes, you should be taking prenatal vitamins. Not because it can help you get pregnant, but because there are a lot of benefits from taking them. They help prevent brain and sprine birth deffects. Especially in the few weeks you even know you are pregnant. Some doctors think it is good to take prenatal vitamins up to a year before you try to get pregnant. I would suggest in getting on prenatal vitamins soon. Some places offer free ones too.... I heard Meijer, but not postitive. Good luck! I hope this helps!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

It took me a little over a year to have a regular cycle (with ovulation) after going off BC (l was on it for 2 years). At first my periods were roughly 2 months apart, now I am regular 28-30 days for the last 4 months and have been ovulating. It really does vary from person to person: some people can ovulate the month after stopping BC, others, like myself and a friend of mine, can take a year or more. I am hopeful that we will conceive soon!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I stopped taking Yaz at the end of November and got pregnant in December. I didn't test positive until I was almost two weeks late. Then a few days later, I started bleeding. Turns out I had a chemical pregnancy. The doctor told me to wait a cycle and then try again. That first cycle after coming off BC was over 45 days long (because of the chemical pregnancy) and the one that just ended was 36 days long. So now we can start trying again, but it was hard to go through that first chemical pregnancy. To those of you TTC after birth control, wait one month. Use another method of birth control. My doctor told me your body needs at least that long to become adjusted. He said my getting pregnant right after birth control was probably why I "miscarried".

I was on birth control for a year once we got married. I stopped taking them that December and got my period in January, but it lasted like two weeks. It was very light. It finally ended on January 23rd, two days before my one year anniversary. I found out I was pregnant on February 17th, confirmed by doctor on February 19th. I was missing my period at that time. I guess it depends on the person and how long they took the bc.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been on BCP for 15 years for long periods with terrible cramps. I'm 31 now and have just in the last two weeks stopped taking the pill. I've been going through a "withdrawal" process with headaches and stomach upset. I'm hoping this goes away soon. Currently my husband and I are trying to decide whether to let nature take its course or try to prevent pregnancy for a little while using other methods due to the fact that we are trying to "schedule" my delivery closer to the end of school because I'm a teacher. I'm just a little nervous about whether I'm going to be able to get pregnant when I've "planned" it due to having been on the pill for so long. Decisions, decisions....

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

You can definitely get pregnant RIGHT OFF THE PILL. That happened to me. I was on YASMIN for 5 years so i thought it would take my body some time to adjust. Well, i guess it needed no time at all. I stopped taking the pill at the end of October 2009. We were going to TTC later in the year so i wanted to get my body back to normal before then. Well i guess we should've been a little more careful...I'll be 19 weeks pregnant this Thursday. But now looking back I am glad it happened the way it did. I was all worried about "trying" because what if it didn't happen right away, etc. Well it looks like i didn't have anything to worry about. So anyway, we are SUPER excited...we find out the sex on Monday. Can't wait!!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had a Mirena IUD for almost 3 years. Had it removed February 12th of 2010. Since that time I have experienced the initial bleeding then another three weeks later another episode of the same. It was still pretty light but it lasted for close to 5 days. So I began testing for ovulation. Still no sign of ovulation at all. I also nursed for a long time with my last child and recently gave that up in early January a month prior to my iud removal. I know that there are ways to jump start a period but are there ways of jump starting ovulation? Is chlomid an option in my case? I have always used the birth control pill method and would get pregnant very easily. Never after an IUD so I'm pretty new to this. I am approaching 39 and was hoping to be pregnant before my birthday since age is a concern for me. Does anyone know what the doctor will do in my case?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been on and off of birth control for about 6 years, the last three consecutive years I have been on the patch. I took my 3rd patch off in February and we conceived that first cycle! It all depends on your own body. good luck!

MrsBritneyKay |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I last took the pill in Feb. I'm late right now for my period but wondering if that is just because of being on the pill and my cycle being regulated again. I have had some breast tenderness, slight cramping and I've been really exhausted for probably 2 weeks now. I took 1 test last week and it came out negative. I talked to some co-workers and they said that it may have been too early to tell. Basically Not too sure what to do right now. Should i try another test now that i am about 3 days late or wait for AF?

LindsO29 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Also, it is best to wait a cycle after stopping the pill. I didn't with my first pregnancy. I got pregnant right away -- like the month after! Turned out to be a blighted ovum and a miscarriage. For some reason, you run a high risk of that right after stopping the pill. No one told me at the time. Thought I'd pass it along so no one else should suffer what I did. Now I'm pregnant again with a real fetus and, Thank G-d everything is fine so far. Good luck!

Oh how I hope I get pregnant soon, can't really take the heavy periods for an extended period of time.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I'm 25. I've been off BC for about 4months now & nothing. My husband & I have been trying like every few days with no results. I thought bc I'm young it would happen quickly. Even though I know BC takes awhile to wear off. It's frustrating one month my period came twice and then the 2nd, 3rd time it came 1 day late & now it's 10days late. I hope all this is normal.I even followed my ovulation calender, but no luck. Has anyone gone through this before?

ygsjl24 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

YGSJL24 I can't say whether it's normal or not but I can support you by saying I'm in almost the same boat! I've been off my pill for about 4 months as well (I'm 25, too) and my cycles have been pretty random, first is was 36 days, then like 43 days, and so on...it's really frustrating because it's something I want so much! I follow an ov calendar too, but I'm starting to think it's never right because of how random my cycles are...I've thought about starting the BBT charting to see if I'm ovulating normally...have you tried that? I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully we'll both snap out of this irregularity soon!! :-D

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I'm still having issues... I'm having 50-36 day cycles...I went of the Pill in October and I just had a 50 day Cycle... What gives? I have had 5 cycles in 7 months... I'm still not prego but I know it can take time but I just want my time between periods not to be 7 weeks... I mean I was taking 4+ test... I was convinced and then Aunt Flo came to town... So much for that... I guess I keep pluggin' (literally LOL) and wait some more... Any one else a little BS about the entire cycles not being regular yet!? I'm fine with getting prego in a few months - I just don't want to have to keep having false hopes every month because my cycle is soooooo long, not late! Come on!

aliwilson09 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been on bc since 2004. Before I got on bc I had very irregular cycles so the bc has regulated my cycle and for the last 6 years I have been having a 28 day cycle. I am taking my last week of bc because my husband and I are going to start TTC prayerfully we will be blessed. For anyone who wants to stop their BC make sure you finish out the current month so your first cycle comes at its regular time. This may help with TTC so ovulation returns regularly.

I was on Nuvaring for 8 years. I removed it in March and used protection during that month. On May 1st I had a positive pregnancy test. I have an appointment with my doctor next week. I couldn't believe how fast it happened.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have took BC for 2 years and have been off for 3 months. Each month, my cycle is longer than 35 days, which I read means your probably not ovulating. My cycle this month so far is 42 DAYS LONG!! I've taken 3 tests so far this month. Hearing all these stories of this process taking 6 months or more really calms my fears. I was ready to call the doc.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I went off the pill at the end of Feb. after being on it for 12-13 years! I got a period right away, and got another one late- it came April 7 and I'm now on day 34 of my cycle waiting for AF to arrive. We are TTC. I feel crampy now and also have a metallic/sour taste in my mouth.. if nothing by Wed. I'm going to take a hpt. I am reading that I should be taking a pre-natal. What is recommended? I also want to schedule a pre-pregnancy consult with my OBGYN but wanted to wait this thing out first...

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Orthocept BC for over 10 years. It took my husband and I 7 months to get pregnant. My cycle was all over the place, and this made it difficult to figure out my ovulation days. It was an upsetting time, but we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. After we stopped worrying and let go of the stresses of getting pregnant, it happened right then! We are 16 weeks along now in our first pregnancy, and it has been wonderful! Good luck to you all who are trying to get pregnant. Hang in there and give your system time to regulate.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I stopped taking the pill in March, my last period was march 2nd. I took tests on Easter and the came out negative. About two weeks later still no period, so I took another test (since it had been two weeks since the last one and I just wasn't feeling like myself) and it was POSITIVE. I had an ultrasound done about two weeks after that and was told that I was not the 2-4 weeks pregnant that I thought I was but I was already 7 weeks. My point is, sometimes it happens right away and sometimes it doesn't; but it takes a while for the pregnancy hormone to appear in you urine, so keep checking as long as your not getting your period. Also you might as well start taking a pre-natal vitamin now, it couldn't hurt?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Is anyone feeling side effects of getting off the pill? I have been taking it for under a year, and we just decided to start trying this month. For the past week or so, I've been hungry all the time, I've had a couple waves of nasea (no throwing up though), and my boobs are sore and growing. It seems too fast for me to be pregnant already, is it possible that these symptoms are related to birth control, and not early signs of pregnancy? I don't want to ignore the possibility of being pregnant, but I don't want to get my hopes up either! My period is scheduled to start on Tuesday, and I'm so nervous/excited to see if it actually comes or not! Next week can't get here fast enough!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I'm a little different from some.. DH and I decided that on my 24th (3-14) bday I'd stop my bc, that's been the plan since we got engaged in March 2007 and married the following September. Times were pretty stressful back in March of this year because we were in the middle of moving from Germany back to the US (and are still getting settled in)... However, I've had my regular monthly cycle.. never missed one, wasn't really even late. It's been 3 months and we've been actively TTC. I don't know about DH, but I'm getting so discouraged.. I've even had baby dreams and have made me cry because the baby's not here. (not sure if that's just from ttc or the "chimical" pregnancy/miscarriage DH and I had a couple of years ago. Either way... maybe I'm just too worked up and stressed about it and not relaxed enough.. I'm not sure.. but we just want a baby so bad. :'(

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been on birth control for gosh, over 10 years. I started off taking the pill then tried nuva-ring then got an IUD. I had the IUD (Mirena) for 4 years. I just had the IUD removed at the end of March because my DH and I are planning on TTC starting this October. After I had my IUD removed, 2 days later I got my period and it lasted for about 4 days. I didnt have a period for another 80 days later and now mother nature is back in full force. I am hoping now that my cycles are back to normal so that when we are ready to actually try in October that it would be "easier". I am also keeping track of my BBT to help get a better idea of what my body is doing. Good Luck, Everyone!! =) I hope my post helps someone out who is wondering what happens after you get an IUD removed.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have a question. I have noticed a lot of people saying they are coming off birth control, getting one or two normal periods and then nothing for a long time. During the the time you are getting nothing, are you still having any symptoms? I came off The Ring in April, got AF then 29 days later got AF again. Now it has been 35 days and no AF. I took a test on Sunday and it said negitive. So either I am preggers and just not testing positive or I have a messed up cycle. However my breasts are VERY sore (same as they were before my last period) and I have had slight cramping on and off. Just going as crazy as all of you are and wondered if the people who had a messed up cycle form the BC were getting any of these symptoms or nothing at all. Thanks and good luck everyone!!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I think this story might allay some worries... I posted on here a months or two back because I was so frustrated by how long it was taking my body to get back to normal after going off Ortho Tri-Sprintec. I stopped taking the pill on March 17 and I didn't get a period for 62 days, and I haven't gotten one since (it's been another 42 days). The one period I DID get was just 3-4 days of light spotting--not even enough for a pad or tampon. So frustrating! I figured it would take me at least another 6 months to get back to normal, let alone pregnant. But I took a hpt this morning, and it's positive! And I haven't had one single normal period since going off the pill. Go figure. So even if you're not back to normal cycles or anything close to normal cycles, you can still get pregnant. (bbt helped A LOT).

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I stopped taking by BCP on May 20th. I got my "pill period" two days later, and haven't gotten a natural period since. It's been 10 weeks now, and I've had three negative pregnancy tests. I swear, I'm starting to get extremely frustrated. We were excited about TTC, but there's no sign that I have even ovulated yet. Taking another pregnancy test tomorrow morning, but I'm sure it'll be negative again. Going to the doctor next Monday, and hopefully she'll tell me something other than "be patient." I'm really just feeling like I'm broken and dysfunctional. :(

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Is it just me or does is seem that these teenagers who are 14-16 that have unprotected sex ONCE get pregnant so quick?! It is NOT easy so how unfair is that?! UGHH! My step brother and step sister who are not in any monogamous relationships and def. not ready for kids both have children and my DH and I have been TTC for a couple months and no luck! I'm thinking the trick is to not get married first, have unprotected sex all the time and wish for no future together with your partner, then it would happen, LOL this seems to be working for many teens and young women!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I'm slightly new here, but have been reading comments for a while on questions I have too...everyone's comments seem to all say the same thing without any answers! I've been told by a few different doctors and also referenced a few books...everyone has said the same thing. Once off your BC let your body do it's thing in order to self-regulate and get back to nature. Depending on the BD it could take a few months a few weeks or a day! I had my IUD removed a few months ago, but went back on the Nuva Ring since DH wasn't quite ready yet. While I loved being on both BC's, I'm fine waiting to see what my body has in store for me....though not too happy I have to have AF again!! Good luck to everyone who is still TTC, congrats to those that have gotten PG so soon! Here's hoping we all have enough Sticky Dust this go 'round!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I just went off my birth control last month. I had a period a week later that lasted three days, now I'm about 12-14 days away from my next predicted period. Not sure if I ovulated or not this cycle, which is frustrating. Can anyone on here tell if they ovulated or not during a cycle, and if yes, how so?

pfritsche |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I am 31 and just went off the pill. I've been on it for several years and I just finished reading a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It has a lot of information that no one ever tells you, including doctors. This may help you with a lot of questions. You can get this book at Barnes & Noble or on ebay. It even comes with a cd that you can use to track your cycles. It teaches you all about when you are most "fertile" and how to check for these days.

misskopjeg |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

The best luck I have had (pfritsche) with telling whether or not you have ovulated during your cycle is (this is going to be TMI, but def. true!) watch your cervical mucus! I'm still TTC, but I am also using a Clearblue Fertility Monitor and the day before I used it and got a "High Fertility" reading, I noticed my CM was really creamy and white, and I told my DH that was a good sign. The next day I tested and it showed I was getting ready to ovulate. When you are ovulating your mucus will be stretchy and clear, like egg-white consistency is what the MD's say. Don't use the whole counting back 14 days from end of cycle thing, not every woman's body is the same and you won't necessarily ovulate on day 14! Best of luck to you!!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hello Everyone- I was on the pill for 8 years and my DH and I have been trying to conceive now for 5 months and nothing. My period right after going off the pill continued on my standard 28 day cycle for 3 months and now the last two months have gone up to 30 days then back down to 29 days... so pretty normal and not all over the place. We pinpointed our ovulation day for the last two months with an ovulation predictor urine test and we have sex once a day in the morning 3 days before and 2 days after each month and still nothing! I am not sure if we need to try the days around ovulation more or less or if I need to try predicting a new way. We too want a baby so bad and I feel my doctor would say it's too early to come see them. My DH is also 14 years older than me (I am 27) but I read that this shouldn't be an issue? I read you should take pre-natal vitamins 3 months prior to trying to conceive which I do, I don't drink, I limit caffeine to barely any, I am not sure what else I can do? Any advice would be SO appreciated.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

gretchenbehar - this isn't really advice, but I'm letting you know you aren't alone. I'm 27 as well and have been trying for 5 months with no luck. I feel like I am doing everything by the book (ovulation tests, timing sex, eating right, etc) and just to get my AF month after month. I just keep thinking something is wrong with me :( My OBGYN said to use the OPKs and BD like crazy when you get a positive. She said after 6 months of positives and no BFP, she would start running tests. While I don't want that to happen, I guess it's better than waiting a year to run tests.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My doctor said I can get pregnant immediately after getting off the pill. I was on for 2 years and took a test 2 weeks after getting off the pill and I am pregnant. Apparently you are more fertile right after getting off the pill. Check your ovulation calculator (they have it free online if you google it) and start trying 2 days before ovulating and continue through your ovulation time. Good Luck!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I first read this strand a few months ago after getting off birth control (was on BC for approx 15 years total). I did not have a period for 3 months and saw that many women had this issue, so I just thought I would wait and see. I finally went to the doctor and found out that I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, which has been causing me not to ovulate. So, I would recommend that anyone that has not had a period in a while, definitely see your doctor. There may be something going on that can be treated. I am going to see an endocrinologist next week, so hopefully will get through this phase...

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on BCP for 4 years. I stopped mid-cycle and also started taking prenatal vitamins. We have probably had sex 8-10 times since then. 4 days after stopping the pills I spotted. I am now 5 days late. I have had cramping and bloating that sometimes feels like when I'm about to start and other times it's different. I've been constipated for 5 days and while making my husband a turkey sandwich this morning i was sensitive (kinda made me nauseated) to the meat smell but those are the only symptoms i've been having. At what point should i take a HPT? I know that it usually takes longer to concieve and that it's normal for AF to be late when stopping the BCP but do people have cramping until they finally do start? thanks!

The first 6 months of being off I was getting my periods every two weeks, awful... So that didnt help much. Now Im normal in a 24 day cycle so we are trying to do everything by the book, but nothing yet. We are trying for a second one, so I'm not stressing too much about it, like if it will be for a first baby. We will see what the doctor says... Good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

We were told up to 6 months once I was off of the NuvaRing, but I researched it online most answers said 1-2 months minimum. They say it happens for some couples really fast, and I was off my NuvaRing less than 2 weeks before I got pregnant! It happened super fast for us! :)

I was also pregnant within 2 weeks of going off the pill. I was stunned because I had heard that it would take at least 2 months before I ovulated again. That was obviously not the case for me! We are expecting our first little one any day now!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My husband and I have been together for 9 years but only married for 1 year. We are TTC. I went off the pill in July after being on it since I was 17 now 28. Did not get a period for 60 days. Talked with the OB and they put me on prometrium for a week. Got the period after I took the medication so now we are just waiting. My OB told me to wait just 1 month after going off of the pill. She told me to use an ovulation kit instead of trying to figure out the dates on a calander. let me tell you it is so much easier. Also for those you out there trying for a gal trying taking Robitussin while you are ovulating. It thins the lining and also can help get pregoo faster. Good Luck to all!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi, I was on the pill since I was 15, I'm 24 now and we're TTC for almost 4 yrs now...My Dr. told me that I should wait 1 yr approximately for the pill to get out of my system, I've been waiting for almost 4 yrs now...do you guys think that I should wait more before I get the news that I'm pregnant?? I'm using all of the tools to get pregnant, charting my BBT, buying ovulation tests, but nothing yet...I'm scared that being on the pill for so long made me infertile?? Help pls!!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I went off BCP's the tail end of August. Sept. was a negative and today, the day before my expected period, I decided to take THE test. (my lower back has been hurting, been feeling bloated for the past week, periodic aching in my breasts and at times, queasy). BFP!! I took two clear blue tests (several hours apart from each other) and the positive sign is light, but definitely there! I'm going to buy a different brand after work and take that just to get two different brand readings. If that is a BFP! as well, I'm going to go to the store and buy some baby Redskin apparel, wrap it up with the tests on top and then give it to my husband when we're both home. Crossing fingers that the other brand shows positive as well... which, it should if Clear Blue showed a positive twice.)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi! I am 24 and have been off the pill since July. I have had my periods each month since, but they have been abnormal each time. I am now a week late and have taken a HPT last Thursday, but it was negative. Do you think I should go get another test? I am scared that there may be something wrong, but maybe it is just that I was on BC for so long. I don't know....

I am about to go off my ortho tricyclen low after being on it for 10 years. My husband and I feel that we are ready for a baby now. Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Please believe the people who say you can get pregnant right away (I did...went off the pill, didn't get my period the first month and got really strong positive!), but also lend an ear to the folks who say it might take awhile. Every body is different, and I can't tell you to be patient because I am totally not! Just know that it is totally different for everyone. But BE PREPARED and don't assume you won't get pregnant the first month! Good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

We are TTC our first baby and so far I am on my 6th cycle since going off BC. I took YAZ for the past year and a few other types before that (overall about 5 years) and I haven't heard much about getting pregnant after getting off YAZ. We tried to wait 2 or 3 months to TTC after BC, so now we have been actively trying for 3 months. No luck so far.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hello all! I was on BC for 9 years and I have been off for 3 months now with regular periods from the day I quit taking it. I went to my Dr. and spoke to her about TTC yesterday. She said that since I was on BC for so long (several different kinds) that it normally takes about 6 months for womens' bodies to 'reset'. That is when they 'start the clock' for TTC problems. If, after one year, 'post-reset' I am stil not pregnant, then she would begin to test for Conception Issues (me and DH). Do not worry and the more you stress out about it, the harder it is to conceive. I was kind of stressing, but what she said really put my mind at ease. Every woman's body is different, but this is a pretty standard way of thinking in the Gyno world. Don't panic and don't stress! Enjoy the 'trying' part and build on the relationship between you and your partner! Good luck to you all! Keep your chin up!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

So question, okay well a short quick background. I used to have a problem with my menstrual cycles when I was younger. Namely I would go almost 2 months without a cycle then have a period for like four days. I went on the pill at age 16 just because I couldn't handle the pain that would accompany my period and I had regular periods ever since. I'm now 24 and my husband and I have decided to start trying for a baby. I went off the pill about 2 months ago and I've already noticed my cycle starting to go back to what it used to be. My first period was only 25 days, my last was 35 days. I bought a thermometer to try and help me figure out when I was ovulating and my husband and I have limited out intercourse to every other day (much to his frustration). My question is: should I expect my periods to return to their normal cycle with all the pain that came with it? Will this abnormal cycle hamper my chances of becoming pregnant? Could a cycle such as what I had when I was younger, indicate a fertility problem? All my paps have come back normal but a girlfriend of mine from work had mentioned ovarian cysts. Could an abnormal menstrual cycle indicate ovarian cysts?

NavyMama24 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

NavyMama24, you remind me so much of my case. I had regular, but VERY painful, heavy periods in my teen years, so I went on the pill. I'm 25 now and came off of yasmin just this August since I'm TTC. So far, the past 3 periods I've had have only improved each time, thank goodness! I read once that since our bodies are a little older now, they may have changed so that the bad periods we had years ago, may not occur again. I used to have terrible nausea with every period, so far, only the first one off the pill gave me nausea, but other than that, they've been better. My mother also had bad periods like that, but she was able to have me at 36, no problem, so it may not always indicate a fertility problem. If you are concerned though, I would definitely advise talking to your doc about any concerns you have. Even though I'm only on month 4 of TTC, I figured it can't hurt to talk to my doc anyway, just to rule out certain concerns like ovarian cysts and endometriosis. Good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I went of my BCP after my last period end of October, this is the week that I would have gotten my next period according to my pill and so far nothing, I hope I can get pregnant soon. I'm worried though cause I have been on the pill for 11 years and I went off it for just over a year a few years ago and I did not get my period the whole time till I went to the dr. and got a pill that would kick start it again. I think I'm giong to wait till January for my yearly and talk to her about giving me that pill again if nothing has happened since then. I know I just need to stop worrying and hope it happens on its own but I can't stop thinking about it. Wish us luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been pregnant twice (first time was a miscarriage), and both times I conceived about two weeks after going off the pill. I had read so much about people having trouble getting pregnant for the first few months after going off the pill that I wasn't expecting for it to happen for at least 3-4 months. Since then, I have read of many other and have heard from my doctor that it is not uncommon to get pregnant immediately after going off the pill. My doctor mentioned that many people go on the pill in the first place because of problems with their cycles, irregularity and other issues, and it is more likely that those issues are why some people don't get pregnant right away after stopping the pill, not because of the pill itself.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My husband and I decided after AF the end of August I'd stop taking my BCP and start TTC. I didn't get AF until the middle of Oct. 49 days. Then again in the middle of Nov. 36 days. So we are going on month 4 of TTC. So as read I'm seeing that some of you are in the same boat as me. I'm 28 and we are very excited and hopeful that we conceive soon. We are trying not to stress about it. I went on the BCP when I was 15 due to heavy, painful periods. So far not having those back yet, but I don't think I'm ovulating yet either. I just bought those test strips from answer so I'll know when I do start.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I got on the Birth Control shot, Depo-Provera, when I was almost 17 years old. I stayed on until I was 20 and 1/2 years old. So 3 1/2 years of being on the Depo-Provera shot. I didn't get my period for 2 years after I was off the shot. Now they are very sporadic and we have been trying to have a family for a while now. And nothing. I'm now 24 years old and I'm still not back to "normal." My doctor didn't tell me about the long term effects that could happen from the Depo-Provera shot. I worry I will never be able to have kids because of it. My thoughts are simply that if you want to have kids someday, stay away from Depo-Provera. I don't know how the other types of birth control act for other women, but I hope I will be able to concieve and have a child of my own someday. As I mentioned before, we've been trying for about 2 years now to have a child, and nothing. I guess it just depends on the woman and how the type of birth control effects her. Talk to your doctor, and ask lots of questions. You'll never know unless you ask them. I wished I would of asked questions but it wasn't my choice to get on the birth control shot. Best of luck.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

This is my 3rd pregnancy. For my first I had been on the ring, went off it (call this day 1), tried day 1, day 3, day 5 to get pregnant and succeeded having a healthy baby 9 months later. Second pregnancy was on the pill went off and conceived right away within the first cycle, healthy baby #2 nine months later. Third time same thing, no baby yet still cooking. I have never had to wait for birth control to get out of my system or whatever. I kinda feel that is just what they say to make u feel better. Why else would you be able to get pregnant if u just missed one pill etc.?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I went off BC in May (on for 2 years). I missed my period in June and am due in March. I know this is not what some of you want to hear, but I think that sometimes stress has alot to do with conceiving. If I had known I would get pregnant so quickly we probably would have waited a bit longer to TTC. I feel into the whole it will take 3mo to 1 year, but it didnt and I think because I was expecting it to take that long, I was relaxed and didnt stress over my temp, or ovulation time, we just had sex when we felt like it. We are thrilled to be pregnant and very impatient for baby to come, as I am sure everyone is or hoping to be. All i can say is if there is not particular reson to worry, such as irregular Paps or anything than just relax and let your body and nature take its course.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on the Mirena IUD for apprx. a year and got sick of it so I got it taken out Sept. 15. Two days later, I got my first period (even my Dr. said that was really fast!) and then within the first two weeks of October, my husband and I got pregnant, but didn't realize it until Nov. 3rd. So it happened extremely fast for me and we weren't even trying...a little surprise, to say the least!

I went off BC (the pill) on Monday December 27th & of course we started TTC right away, I started spotting on Wednesday, and now Today (Thursday) AF started, so i got my period within 4 days of going off the pill, so we will start going every other day after AF. We'll see what happens! My sister got pregnant within 2 months of going off the pill (without ttc) so im hoping we have luck by going every other day =)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

my husband and i have been trying to conceive since September 2010. I got off BC in May of 2010 because a friend told me it could take a while to get pregnant if you were on the pill. I have been having irregular periods since getting off the pill. I would have pretty consistent periods and then go a month without one. In November i did not have a period. I finally got my period this month but it has been one of the weirdest ones ever! It started Dec. 18 and hasnt stopped. it was VERY light for the first week and a half. Then got heavier. I am so frustrated because it seems to be taking a while for us to conceive. I am trying not to stress out because that doesnt help.

I went off my BC Oct. 26th and didn't get my AF until Dec.4th. Now it is Jan.3rd and still without AF for my second cycle. My husband and I have been TTC. I was on BC for most of the last 10 years. (Seasonale) Each time I went "off" for the week AF came right away then the last year it stopped. So I actually am pretty happy getting it after 40 days the first time. Now I am just hoping to be pregnant. I just found out my brother is having a baby without even trying! Figures... right :)

After stopping the pill, has anyone experiences headaches or nausea?! I kicked my pill in December and have not been feeling well since...Is this normal?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

To fossdouglas10 - I went off the pill in October and two weeks after my cycle I was pregnant, though I didnt know until a total of 4 weeks after I went off the pill. During the time I was pregnant and did not know it, I had headaches and was really tired. This was the first time I went off the pill in 6 years, so I'm not sure if what you're experiencing is "normal" but it's possible you might be pregnant. Good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been off the pill since Novemeber after being on it for over ten years. I know many of you women are really ttc, but keep in mind that every women's body is different. Some will get pregnant a month or two after getting off BC other it may take awhile. I can sympathize with those who are fustrated as I did miss my period the first month after going off the pill and took a test hoping we might be prego. Unfortunately we werent. Two months later I am just content with the fact that we are not preventing preganancy anymore. I am happy with the idea that it will happen when its meant to.

I highly recommend the book 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility'. It can be a little graphic but is a great way to understand how your cycle works and why it takes time to start having a normal cycle again. It also give alternatives to birth control pills.rings.patches that won't effect your cycle and gives advise on how to maximize your chances of pregnancy once you do start ovulating again. Great read and very informative on all of the joys of being a woman.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

With my first pregnancy I was off BCP for 2 weeks and got pregnant. In fact, I had even started going back on it. I went on faulty info from a bad doctor and we didn't use a condom for the first time. After that we were tweaked out by the idea and started using them again. So I know the EXACT DATE I got pregnant. The 3 month rule is a myth. Now I'm trying again and have been off for almost a month. Tested today with BFN at 11dpo and going to test again in a couple of days. It can happen right away, people!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was really worried that it would take us forever to conceive since I was on BC for 16 years! When we decided to TTC I stopped the pill two months early to let my body adjust. Then we were pregnant within the second month of actually trying. So if you've been on the pill a long time, try not to worry too much about the effects it will have on your chances, because we are proof that it doesn't always take forever. Good luck everyone!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Orthotricyclene for 10 years and got off in December 2010. I was worried that I didn't ovulate in January because my period was late, but kept geting BFNs. After 3 days late, I used the First Response and got a super faint BFP! I think that my cyle was about 6 days longer after getting off the pill because I noticed signs of OVing 6 days after I was estimating. I think it might be true that your cycle gets irregular after getting off the pill, but you still may ovulate...just on a different day than expected.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on birth control pills for 3 years and the first week in November of 2010 i took them and then I stopped. Well I didn't get my period at the end of November, turns out I'm pregnant due in August. That was a shocker to me I didn't think you could get pregnant so soon after stopping your form of birth control. I know a few people that had to wait months and take pills to try to conceive after birth control. Guess it was just my turn.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Yasmin for 5 years and went off in October because my husband and I are TTC!! I had 2 periods (one in Nov. & one in Dec.), but it is January (almost Feb.) and I still haven't had my period. It has been 42 days now. I took a pregnacy test around the time that I was expecting to get my period and it was negative. However, I had read posts that said it could be negative due to low hormone levels so... I waited another week. I took another test and it said negative. :( I called my doctor and she said that I should have had my period, so I am going in on Monday and hope to leave with a BFP! However, after reading so many posts, I can't help but think that maybe my body is still alittle off because of the pills. I don't know, but I am hoping for good news!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant after being off Nuva Ring for one month. I didn't plan it or else I would have waited longer to let my body get back to normal, just to be safe. Now I'm paranoid that being off of it for only one month is going to make me more at risk for miscarriage. Does any one know anything about this? I know that it thins the lining of your uterine wall so is that bad for baby or can it be normal again after only a month?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I've been off BC since January 1st after being on for 12 years on the pill I was regular to the hour I know it can take time for your cycle to return to normal but I am a week late. Had a BFN at one day late. Could I really be pregnant on the first try or is it just coming off the pill messing things up. After 12 years of being so regular it's hard to deal with not knowing when it will start!

MChapman20 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had a very similar experience as MChapman20 above... and I'm so confused now! My DH & I decided that I would stop taking Orthotricyclen after the New Year & TTC. My cycles were always 28 days on the pill (on a very rare occasion 27 or 29). My last one was 12/28/10 so I assumed I would ovulate sometime around 1/11 or 1/12. We have been having fun, but now I am frustrated. My period is 8 days late but I waited patiently before testing on day 6 = BFN. Maybe my cycle is out of whack?? I did take BC for 6 years. I want to be PG, but if I'm not, I wish my period would just come already! We ordered an OPK but feel like I'll be blindly testing because I have NO idea when I will ovulate or if I even will. Any advice or similar experiences?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I always had normal cycles and went on BC as a pregnancy preventative for years. I recently went off of it so that my husband and I could "not try but not prevent it to see what happened". My doctor said I would have a hard time getting pregnant because I have a condition known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - whose biggest symptom is an irregular cycle. I got pregnant the first month of birth control and never had to use hormone therapy to conceive!! For those with irregular cycles after coming off BC, you might just want to check with your doctor to make sure you dont have this condition. Although.....i dcertainly dont believe the myths about how long after birth control it takes to get pregnant!!

MINTA4JANE |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been off my BC since the first week in October and my husband and I have been TTC since then, but so far no luck. My period has been coming every 27-28 days, so I think I am pretty regular but with no success. I have been using OPK and charting my BBT. A little frustrated, but my OBGYN has told me that "only 30% of couples get pregnant within the first 3 months, 50% get pregnant within 6 months, and 90% in 1 year." I am hoping this month is our month. Keeping our fingers crossed!!

I have been on BC for about 4.5 years and stopped after having my pd on Jan 17, now I am a few days late of when i expected my pd and I have been hoping I'm preggo but after reading all these posts about how a lot of women have really long cycles the after coming off the pill I am worried that is what is happening and that I'm not pregnant. I was planning on taking a test on sat but I may wait longer now. I have been having a lot of headaches and some mild nausea but that could be in my head. Also, I haven't felt any of my normal PMS symptoms so I don't know...will keep you posted. Good luck everyone!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I didn't go back for my next depo shot in December 2010. I purchased a OPK and i got a positive result for ovulating on the 10th. So i'll have to wait and see if we happened to get pregnant. I don't ever have a period, it could be because of the birth control, but I don't ever remember having a regular cycle. So the OPK totally helped with letting me know when I ovulate. Now it's just a waiting game. If it comes back negative, we'll just have to try again next month. I already have a 6 year old, and I got pregnant with her when I was really young and not looking to get pregnant. Now I'm a little older and married, and I'd like a baby but now I have to work for it.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on the depo shot for about two years. My last shot was in August of 2010 and I am just now getting my period. Today is day 25 of having it. During that time I had a break of probably 2 days. My doctor said it's normal due to not having a period during this time. We are ttc so we shall see what happens in the next coupld of months. Even though I was told it may take up to 6 to 8 months till I get pregnant.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

We stopped my BC back in November and I've been regular ever since. We haven't really been trying, but I know we both quietly hope it happens. I kinda thought it would have by now. I keep hoping each month that my period will be late so I have an excuse to get a test, but it's always right on time... Oh well, it'll happen when the Lord knows we're ready.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on depo and i didnt go back for my shot in the beginning of December. I purchased the OPK because I never have periods. I ovulated on the 11th and and i took a pregnancy test yesterday and it was positive. I was thinking it would take up to 6 months to get pregnant since i've read everywhere that it takes 6-9 months after coming off of the depo shot but it happened so fast.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I got pregnant one month and a half after going off Ortho Evra. We were really surprised to have conceived so soon, but definitely thrilled since i had been on BC for about 4 years and figured it would take a while before my cycle went back to normal.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on depo for 2 years, the bcp for 7 years after that and got pregnant 1 month after going off the pill. My best tips for anyone trying to get pregant: start pre-natal vitamins even when you are only trying, don't stress about it if its not happening right away, keep track of when you are ovulating and have sex about twice a day before and after you ovulate......and most importantly, have fun!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I just went off the pill last month and had my period 2 weeks ago. I bought the ovulation tests to use to ensure I am actually ovulating since I am 38 years old and have been on the pill for 20 years. I hope those tests are accurate because I was so happy to see a positive sign on Sunday to show that so far things are working as they should. Now I'm just hoping all of these stories I've read in the previous posts of people getting pregnant right after going off the pill soon apply to me. :-) My doctor told me that you are really fertile the first 3 months after getting off BC as long as you are ovulating. Here's hoping I'm posting a a comment 2 weeks from now saying I'm prego!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had the Mirena IUD from july 2007 until January/February 2010. Had it taken out due to side effects. Went onto Loestrin FE for about 3 months then stoped taking it altogether. DH and I are somewhat officially TTC now but have both stated if it happens awesome if not then its just not the time. I'm a little worried because some of the times in the past few months I would have thought I would have been preggo for sure but then AF came... :-(

BCrosby |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi i had a Mirena IUD from August 2002 had it replaced in 2007, no period this whole time. I had it removed Dec 10, 2010 and on February 28, 2011 tested positive on a hpt. I am currently 6 weeks pregnant. I only had one period and that was on January 31- February 2. I consider myself very lucky & all is going well. I also used pre-seed lubricant & charted my cervical mucus 2 or 3 times a day. +

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

It is nice to see that some women can stop taking bc and return to a 28 day cycle without a hitch. Unfortunately, I have been off of it since mid January and there are no signs of AF. Since I'm new to these boards it reassures me that I am somewhat normal when I see that others have had the same experience.

For those of you who chart- when did you start charting after stopping BCPs? I want to start charting right away, but I'm not sure if I should count my withdrawl bleed as day 1 or wait until I get a "real" period to start tracking. Thanks!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on the nuvaring for 3 years and other BCP for 7+ years before that. We stopped BC in December. I finally got my period 45 days later. We got a BFP the next month and then lost the baby a week later. I don't think my body had regulated enough to carry a baby. I wish we had waited longer after stopping BC before we started TTC.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I'm new to this ttc business - just stopped taking my bcp's on march 31st (we are both 22 right now) and have been on them since I started to regulate my initial very heavy periods that I was granted with from the start. I went off of them the year before we got married to see if I could go back to being regular and it seemed to go fine then. So far I'm trying to stay optimistic as it hasn't been too long since we started ttc but of course I'm still worried. We are hoping to be lucky and conceive in the next month and a half but hopefully at least some time this summer.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

from what i have read and researched it can happen right after your next cycle and it could take up to 6 months. plan it if possible. we do not want a winter baby too many viruses going around i dont want my baby sick from everyone and everything so we planned it where i got off my pill april first and we are taking precausions to not get pregnent but once june 10 comes we are all about it. so that give my body some time to find itself again after 10 years on bc. now im taking prenatals and loading up on all the vitamins like dha, and folic acid, and all the other goodies. my advise is even if your not ready plan to give your body some time to recover before you try your chances of not getting frustrated with your husband or yourself bc its not happening will be reduced. good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I stopped taking my bcps april first. My last period was march 16th. I figured I would get a normal period right away...but nothing. I did stop taking my pill with a week left in the pack (my husband finally said I could stop taking them so I jumped at the opportunity!), but I assumed that I would get my period early, if anything. I know I'm not very late yet, but I am as frustrated as ever! I just want to get a period so I can start tracking ovulation already! Is there anything you can do to jump start a period?

I'd been skipping my placebos for two months in order to not have a period on a cruise, and then I stopped taking my Ocellas mid-pack in January, and we used condoms so I could rid my system of the hormones and lose some weight. My last period was in February. I'll be 11 weeks pregnant Monday. I'm 33.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I am on the mini pill (i.e. POP pill)....I am wondering if there is a difference in how long it takes to conceive after stopping the POP pill vs the regular b-control pill? I believe, and don't quote me, the POP pill doesn't stop ovulation, but rather thickens your uterine wall to make it too difficult for sperm to penetrate to an egg. Could be completely crazy on that, but wondered if anyone knew?.?

I took a test and it came out negative.; i was afraid of a tubal pregnancy. Has anyone else experienced these paines after bc? Could it be an ovarian cyst? Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I finished my last cycle of ortho and had my period (during the "green pills" days). I didn't take the next month's ortho, and after missing my next period (according to the 28-day cycle), I took a pregnancy test and got a positive response. Is it possible/normal to get it so soon after? That means I ovulated right after right?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

First of all, good luck to all!!!! I was very nervous to start trying after being on BC for 11 years (ortho tri-cyclen). I had never thought of my body as a baby-maker, so once i started doing all the research on what needs to happen in our bodies to conceive, more out of curiosity than caring about getting pregger right away, I got an OPK to make sure I was ovulating. I was, but my period came 11 or 12 days after my first ovulation which I read is too soon. Apparently, I could be vitamin B6 deficient after coming off the pill, so I started taking B6 vitamins along with my prenatal vitamins, used the OPK on my next cycle and concieved! got my BFP yesterday! Good luck ladies! And keep posting. It was incredibly helpful for us :)

I went off BCPs on 4/29 (period day 1) and haven't really been charting, but did the calcs and figured ovulation was between 5/8 and 5/15. Had sex, but now am not sure if we're pregnant. Been taking PNV and some other supplements. Not really TTC but DH really REALLY wants a few children, so we're starting early. As an FYI, was on BCPs for 13 years. Will post again with news soon!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I've been off BC since November 2010 and my husband and I have been TTC since and so far no luck. Does anyone know if those first 3 months off of BC is counted in the average of 4-6 months for most couples to get pregnant?? Or is it 4-6 months after those first 3 months for your cycle to come back normal. Either way I am becoming very frustrated with the whole process, it seems everyone around me is getting pregnant just by blinking.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been on for BC for almost 2 years since my last child. My husband and I are not TTC. I took my last pill a couple weeks ago and started my period almost immediately. But it lasted for well over a week. I was on seasonique and I have heard stories about women not being regular after stopping seasonique. I stress about everything so I recently bought a box of ovulation tests. Even though this is our first month trying I didn't want to have to guess at time of ovulation. So we will see how this goes...

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I stopped bdp first week of February. I did not have a period after stopping the last pill in my pack and never got one on my own. My OB gave me Provera first of May. I got a period 2 days after last Provera pill. But looks like still nothing. I tested OPKs twice a day this cycle (now on CD 20) and all are negative. I just made an appointment with a specialist because my OB refuses to even investigate the problem until a year has passed. Annoyed.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Allesse for 9 years, stopped taking it at the end of February and skipped my first period in March but then I got my next period right on schedual on April 15. I was expecting to skip my first one from what I had heard from friends. But I haven't ovulated since then and it's now June. I went to the doctor's and she did some blood work and told me to go back to see her in a few months if I'm still not ovulating. I had irregular periods before I started birth control. I'm starting to try some home remedies to get things regulated like drinking grape juice everyday and eating lots of carrots, papaya and sesame seeds. Sounds crazy but I figure it can't hurt. Has anyone else tried these home remedies?

It took over 3months for my period to start up again. It was regular for 2months so we were trying but no luck. Now the past two cycles I started spotting two weeks before my actual cycle began. I have taken ovualtion tests and that has only been positive once. I guess I just don't know what to do. any suggestions would be great:)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Depends on lots of things. I'd be ready to get pregnant the first month, I know people that has happened to, and for it to take longer, I know it has taken my friends a year or more. I'd start taking a vitamin with folic acid since you could get pregnant. Fertile Bounty is what I take, it is a prenatal and has stuff for fertility, so it helps you get pregnant faster, which is what I want. Its worked well for my girlfriends so fingers crossed for me:))

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hello Ladies... I am currently 67 days away from my wedding. The reason I am posting is because me and my future husband really want to start trying to have kids as soon as we are married! My worry is that I have been on Ortho Cylen for 3.5 almost 4 years. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a basic idea of how long the pill will stay in my system?? We are moving shortly and so I do not have a obgyn that I can really ask (at least until we move). I was just hoping someone could give me a basic number, or is it totally different per person??

katherineberger |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi Katherine. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I'm no obgyn but I will pass along what my gynecologist told me. She recommend that I have one normal spontaneous period on my own after stopping the pill before trying to conceive. She said I could stop the pills any time; have the menstrual period that would follow that; and then wait until after my first spontaneous period to begin trying. Hope this information helps!

mecannady |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Mecannady, yes it does help! Since I dont have an OBGYN or anything I dont have anyone to ask! I have actually tried to look it up online and I just cant seem to get a straight answer, so this helps a lot!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi Katherine - I'd suggest playing it safe. I was on birth control for 3 years and then conceived with one week of stopping. After my daughter was born, I went back on it. I've been off it now for 4 months, and nothing. I know there's typically a 4 day window each month when you're "most likely" to conceive. I believe its 12 days after you begin your period. So best of luck to you with your upcoming wedding and plans!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Estro-Step birth control for 4 years .. I was off one month & got pregnant! I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby girl .. I'm due August 16th she is my first child I'm 21 yrs old & never been happier <3 I think it pretty much depends on the person & your body, generally everyone's body is different. So it may be easier for one person just getting of birth control to get pregnant then another person it may take atleast a month or so. I'm no doctor but thats pretty much what my doctor told me.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi Katherine, I'd suggest playing it safe. I was on ortho Tri-Cyclen for alsmost 8 years and i got off 6/4/09. Had my period shorlty after, ended up with a 24 day cycle and i calculated that and the first day of my last period was 7/12/09. Our daughter was born 4/13/10. My OBGYN said that it would be a BIG possiblity that you were more likely to get pregnant right after getting offthe pill. In my case, that exact thing happened. Good Luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have PCOS and my fertility specialist said that we should start immediately after getting off birth control because the first month was our best shot and each month after a little less. I'm not sure if I ovulated in the first month off birth control, but the second month I used the First response daily ovulation test. I ovulated 18 days into my cycle. Accompanied by the surge in LH I also had pains signalling ovulation. I had been on birth control for 7 years so I do not think it is important to wait a long time after getting off birth control to start TTC. Maybe this is only the best advise if you have PCOS, but I am glad we started right away. Looking forward to the end of this month to see how we did!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I accidentally left my birth control at home when we went on our honeymoon June 6-11, so We know there is a chance I am preggers. My last 2 "periods" had been super light (only a wipe in the morning) when they usually last about 4 days of bleeding. We decided for me to go off my medicine permanently about a week ago, but I was wondering if it might be that I am pregnant? I have been having some major signs, in addition to the unusual periods. I was pregnant once before, and it took 4 months for me to get a positive hpt result, so even though I had taken a couple tests and had negatives, I am not convinced, because its happened to me before. The other day I took a test, and when I looked at it, it was invalid (it didnt have ANY lines) Then I happened to glance at it the next day, and it had 2 lines, the control line, and the positive test line. I was wondering if maybe it could have just taken the pee a bit longer to get all the way to being read? And the second line is NOT an evap line, I know what those look like. It is definately blue. Opinions?? We are actively trying now, just in case, but I dont know if we should make a doc appt to be sure, or if it just sounds like hopeful thinking???

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Honestly, it depends on the person. One of my sister-in-laws was on birth control for a few months, 6 at most, and it took her and her husband over a year and a half to have a successful pregnancy. Another one got pregnant while on birth control. Myself, I was on bc for 5 or 6 months and have been ttc for the past three months with no success. I have been using the ovulation calendar on the website but my cycles keep changing. I think it has a little to do with a vitamin deficiency so I have started a prenatal vitamin in hopes that next month will be a success. Good Luck!

Has anyone ever taken Femcon FE, and if so how long did it take to get out of your system/get pregnant? My husband and I are have been TTC since Jan, but with no luck. I've been off BC since Nov-Dec. My periods were regular on BC, and now they've started to get irregular, but still no bun in the oven :P. Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I've been on ortho tri-cyclen for almost 2 years. I never had regular periods prior to the pill, every 3-4 months, but have been on a regular 28 day cycle on the pill. My fiance and I want to start trying as soon as we get married September 10 and I just stopped taking my pills. I don't currently have a regular obgyn to ask but I am concerned about trying to conceive with such irregular periods.

JennyLou7 |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

To JennyLou7- I don't claim to be an expert but my ob-gyn told me to try and have at least one or two normal cycles first once you stop taking BC before you start TTC. Once you stop the pill and you give your body those few months to return to normal, you could take pre-natal vitamins just to prepare for when you are pregnant. I stopped the pill on 3/1/11 and we started TTC in June so hopefully any month now! Good Luck and congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I am new to this board and to TTC. I have to admit it is quite frustrating. I was on BC for 14 years. I have been off of the pill since April.I expected to give it a couple of months for my body to adjust from being off the pill. So in July I began doing the ovulation tests. It is now late August and I have not ovulated since I began testing (2 months). I do it every day and every day is a roller coaster. I know that people say it takes time and that I need to relax. How do you do that when you are let down each month? Should I be concerned that I am not ovulating 4 months post BC? Some people tell me to call my Dr. and get blood test, and some tell me to be patient and give it a year. A year seems like an eternity. Should I do the tests for 1 more month or go ahead and talk to my dr. ? I am having normal 28 day cycles and have since I stopped the pill. I am really trying to curb my emotions, but that is much easier said than done.

I had a miscarriage in March. About six weeks along. I was heart broken. I immediately wanted to try again and we did but nothing. My cycles were completed off. I went 45 days after my miscarriage to have another period. Then went 35 days before I had my second. That period was extremely light and lasted 8 days. Then two days later it started again but was not a regular period. I was experiencing brown, pink and red. My doctor suggested going back on the pill. I am now just about to finish my second full pack. I have decided that it will be my last pack and we are going to start trying again. When I got pregnant the first time I was on the pill but I start my pack a week late. Since I ovulated right away I'm hoping for the same result this time. If anything has any advice please feel free to let me know.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I stopped taking my BC in may and still no period. I went to my OBGYN and she gave me Medroxyprogesterone to "jump start" my periods. I have been taking them for 5 days and I still haven't started...I know I am not pregnant but totally agree that it is frustrating when things don't go as "planned". I am glad to know there are others in our situation. Good luck to everyone!

I have been off my pill a full month. I got a positive ovulation on a digital reader. We tried AI, and I am 17 days out and all pregnancy test state negative. I also never got my period yet, I am 2 days late. So will I ovulate again to retry or what do I do??

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

DH and I conceived the month after I went off the pill and I am now 16 weeks along with a very healthy pregnancy. I was on OrthoTriCyclen Lo for 8 years, non-stop, and as soon as I went off, we were pregnant...I didn't even have a regular period, just withdrawl bleeding for a day the week after I stopped. So it definitely is possible to get pregnant right away, I guess it all depends on how your body regulates your hormones. Good Luck ladies :)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

my DH and I haven't really been TTC because we are not ready to start our family yet. I have been off my BC since Apr 2010 and my periods were coming ontime and lasting only 4 days even while on the BC. This period and the last have been really weird the last period I had was a day early and lasted only 6 days but at the end of it and beginning the mucus turns brown. and now this one I just had came a day late and lasted 6 days as well. I dont know if my body is just now getting back to normal and having my periods last longer than before. Also my DH and I have not been using any other kind of BC because he takes awhile to finish. he is not circumcised either. I was also doing the ovulation test and all of them have been coming up negative. I really don't know if I'm ovulating or not. what should I do?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I had an IUD for 4 yrs but during that time I had a lot of bleeding so my OBGYN also put me on BC pills at the same time so I took the both of them for 2 yrs. I had the IUD taken out and stopped my pills pretty much the same time and within 3wks I was pregnant. I thought for sure it would take at least a year.

I had been on different BC pills for 5 years and my husband and I decided to start trying. We last took BC 12/2010 and found out today were pregnant so it took us 9 months. I always had regular cycles before and during the pill. My dr didnt know why it took so long but my sister had been on them for about the same and shes been ttc for almost 5 years.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

ok, where to even begin with my history.. i did pills for a number of years then switched to the shot then pills again and the shot.. then back to pills. when ilas talked to my dr, she told me that it could take up to a year for my body to return to its "normal state". i was always regular before starting ANY method. I am due to get my period this saturday, 9/17/2011 and will not be starting up a new pack! dh and i decided to start a family. i am nervous because i have been reading other posts where people have had a hard time but other posts where things have worked out well. i was also nervous because i read that a couple people had suffered from miscarriages after getting pregnant after getting off the pill. any advice for me before ttc?!?! thanks for any advice...

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I'm planning to get off Ortho Tri Cyclen after 10 years. I'm really nervous about how my body will react once I get off the pill. My cycle used to be very irregular and the BCP really regulated my cycle and cleared up my horrible acne. Will my acne and irregular cycle return once I get off the pill? I'm 30 years old and concerned....

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on Ortho Evra, which is the patch. I got my period in July 2011 and I didnt put my patch back on like I was suppose to after my period was done. So I got my period again at the end of July and it carried into early august. Then it stopped, Well here we are almost end of sept and I havent gotten my period. Should I be worried? Or is this normal?

Kashli |

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My doctor said that you can get pregnant as soon as you stop BC. Most people don't because they don't start ovulating right away and their cycles are irregular. I have stopped taking the pill on May and my cycles are longer than they used to be: 1st one was 32 days, 2nd was 33, now the 3rd was 37 and my ovulation was late... So I am waiting for the next one to see if I am going back to normal. I am not in a hurry, but it is annoying when friends make comments like "I got pregnant right away", "you have to do it all the time". My cycle is off, so I cannot tell when my fertile days are.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I got pregnant 3 months after going off the pill (Trivora-28), which I was taking for 2 consecutive years (and another 4 years before that). I am 26 and this is my first pregnancy. At first I was worried it was going to take a lot longer because my periods (though regular) were still fairly light, and I wasn't noticing any ovulatory mucus either. I even found myself hoping for the return of my pimples! But I still managed to get pregnant even without going completely back to "normal" after the pill.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi Everyone! I saw some people on here ask about getting pregnant after an IUD. I just returned from my OBGYN and had my Mirena IUD removed. This was my second one, two years in (7 years on BC total). My doctor told me that the Mirena takes three hours to work and as soon as it is removed, pregnancy can happen right away. Hope that helps!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

it all depends on your body! i was on birth control for 8 years and went off of it at the end of june. by the end of july i was pregnant! if you're that worried talk to your doctor, or just keep trying! (and those myths about getting pregnant right off birth control and the negative effects it can have on your baby are false! i was worried and asked my doctor and she said it was nothing to worry about!)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Can i be ovulating right after i stopped my birthcontrol? I stopped taking my birth control pills right after my period ended( i was on tri cyclen lo for 5 years) . Four days after that i had another period that was heavier then when i was on the pill. Then the day after i was done with my 2nd period i had this stretchy egg white looking discharge for about a day or so. Could it be that i was ovulating already? Here are the actual dates. I finished my period on Oct 10th, and stopped the pills that night. I got on my period again on Oct 17th till the 21st. Then i had the discharges on 22nd and 23rd. is it possible i to get pregnant from that? is it going to be safe (i heard we have to wait a month or 2)

Hi so I only took bc for two months. The second month I missed my last two active pills and just stopped bc. I have taken a few test earlier around oct 14 and so on but came back negative. I still haven't had any withdrawal bleeding or anything so I'm scheduled for a blood test friday. Monday my nipples became extremely sensitive and I keep getting twinges on the side of my breast. Also had that just feeling like I'm pregnant symptoms. Hoping the blood test will be positive.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I've been on birth control since I was 16, from low estrogen tablets, to the patch and finally the sub q depo shot which i only did one round which is three months and that was from aug 10th of this year til oct 10th. I stopped because I have stage 2 endometriosis and the subq is supposed to help slow down the development of endo but I ended up having a cyst grow so i decided to just stop all hormones and try to conceive because i know it's just going to keep growing and we really want to have kids. I do not have a regular period so does any one have a similar situation to me to where they can give me some insight on what they have been doing...etc. Thanks

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have been off birth control for 4 years. From 2008 to 2010 I did not have a period at all. In late 2010 I got 3 periods, got pregnant, but lost the fetus. It has now been over a year since I had my last period and I can't figure out why I an not getting a period. I have been to see an OB about it. They did a few different blood tests. I never got the results from them.. They were supposed to call me and never did. When i call to try to get the results and set up further appointments, I get nothing. No phone calls back. I do not know what to do to kick-start my periods so I could possible conceive a child. I know my fiance is not in fertile, he has 2 children already from previous relationships. We are planning to get married in a month. We really want to have children of our own. I am only 21 years old. Does any one have any suggestions as to what I could to do kick-start my periods?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Hi , I just wanted ask you if you have tried acupuncture. I was having very irregular periods for about a year after stopping BC pills and my doctor said that it would take about a year for my cycles to normalize. Well then I started reading how so many girls experience similar problems after stopping BC and sometimes taking 2-3 years for it to resolve. Well I didn't want to wait and my husband and I are ready to TTC, so I search for other options. I found acupuncture and after 3 months of no periods/no ovulation, I got my 1st period after 1 month of acupuncture with natural ovulation. I dont know how it works but it works. I'm currently on my second cycle and everything looks good so far. I think I just ovulated yesterday. I spoke to my gyno and all he wanted to do is give me more hormones to induce a period without regulating my cycles/ovulation. He even offered getting me back to BC pills, which is probably what got me there in the first place. I would hate for anyone to go through so much trying to get pregnant if they could do it naturally. I hope this helps. Look for acupuncture clinics, read the reviews. There are so many success stories about infertility. Good Luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I have a question that goes along with this thread: I stopped BC on 11/19 after finishing a pack (microgestin). I was expecting my period on Wed, 11/23 but it never came. Have had sex several times since stopping BC but wouldn't expect to be pregnant already since I assume - after going off BC - I would have a period first then ovulate. Am I missing something? Could I be pregnant? I have never missed a period.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Sometimes it can happen right away, BUT my doctor told me its especially important to use protection the first month bc you are at a much higher risk of having twins since your ovaries go from not working to both working at the same time and they could both release an egg at the same time!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

After going off of birth control ( I had been taking it for 6 years) it took me 8 months to get pregnant. What really helped conceive was keeping track of my cycle which was more like 35 days long instead of 28 days long so I didn't know when I was ovulating until I kept really good track of my cycle. My best advice is to be patient and trust that there's a plan for you!

I went for a blood test and it came back positive - unfortunately I had a MC (I was told it had nothing to do with me being on the pill). I've been on the pill since 04 and went off of it in october of 2011. First month my period was right on time. Second month I was a week late and the third month I was a week and a half late. On top of that I've had the most intense cramps ever! Hopefully we'll get pregnant soon!! Little tricks I've learned but obviously can't say they've worked is robitusson. Take 2 teaspoons 3 times a day. 2 days before you're ovulating, the day you are ovulating and then 2 days afterwards. Apparently it makes the mucus inside you thinner, which makes it easier for the sperm to get where they need to go.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I will never go on the pill again because of all the confusion and symptoms I had after going off the pill (Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo). I went off the pill in May, and my period came 2 weeks late. I spent my vacation thinking I was pregnant...So I came home and took a preg test (BFN), and was so disappointed. Soon after, my hair started falling out. A LOT. I got my thyroid checked but that came back normal and I was told it was most likely because of hormone changes after going off the pill. I went to the Dr. for my yearly appointment and told her that we were TTC. She said to use condoms for 3 months, because there is a slight possibility that if you do get preg too soon after going off the pill it has a higher probability of not going well. We did wait like she said to. I had a BFP preg test in August. We were thrilled! We had our first check up scheduled at 8 weeks, and the Dr. did a sonogram, but there was no embryo visible. Turned out that the egg was fertilized and the gestational sac was in my uterus, but the egg died. We were devastated. I had to go for several blood tests over a few weeks to make sure that was what really happened, and in November my body lost the "baby". Since then the Dr. told us to wait 2-3 cycles to try again (just like after a miscarriage). So we did wait, and I got pregnant again right after we stopped using condoms! I'm 5 weeks now, and praying that it's for real this time! It's been quite a journey.

It just depends on your body. I started taking the pill when I was 17 to help regulate my period. I stopped taking them at 27 when my husband and I decided we wanted to have a baby. It took us two years to get pregnant. A lot of it had to do with my menstrual cycle (my periods were irregular). As a result, I wasn’t able to pinpoint my exact ovulation days. Talk to your doctor. They will provide you with a lot of information. Good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Got off the pill April 2012 and got pregnant April 2012. Only had sex once during the week of ovulation. If you start ovulating the first month after you stop the pill, your chances of getting pregnant are very high that first month(this according to my Doc). I thought for sure since I was over 30yrs and hubby was pushing 40yrs that it would take a few months of TTC for anything to happen. Oops! Baby is due in January 2013!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Ive been off birth control for about 3 months before this I was depo. And had my period the full year I was on it then I was on the patch to finally ortha. Vera pills. Could that be why I haven't yet? I thought I was pregnant last month because I was 2 weeks late but took 3 tests that were all negative. I had symptoms but maybe that was me hoping I was. Ive tried the elivate your hips for 5-10 minutes after sec but I'm not sure why I'm not pregnant yet. Could there be something wrong with one of us? I'm confused. Been trying for awhile now help please??!!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

there is no definite time. many women can get pregnant directly after, some not so much. it could take between 6mo to a year for a body to regulate back to normal ovulation after bc but many women have been known to go of the pill and get pregnant immediately.

I stopped taking my BC in April, I got my period in May (25th), I have yet to get my period, I have had one episode of extreme cramping but my friend said that might be implantation cramping, could it be? or is it more likely that my period is just irregular?

Depends on your body. You can get pregnant just by missing a pill, or one week off of it.

I stopped taking birth control pills in early June, and I conceived in early August. I used the "May Days" app for ipad. It's free and it tells you exactly when you should have sex, and apparently it really works because I got pregnant after less than a month of using it! :)

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

in regards to sandozsc.. i know this post was in 2007 I was pregant 2 weeks after going off the pill. (I was on Orthro Tru Cyclen for 10 yrs) I had no clue at first b/c I figured I would be late anyway and never had a 'real' period so I thought I was just having PMS. I am still amazed I got pregnant that quickly. ive been on trycyclen for 6years, and i jst went off bc the end of june. the first month off the pill i had an exact on time cycle. as of right now. i am two days late. we use condoms, but have a tendancy to start getting busy with out them.. which we know is dangerous, now being two days late im starting to get nervous!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Another perspective on coming off of Depo: I was on Depo for 3 or 4 years, which a bit of spotting in the beginning but nothing for the remainder of the time. I had my last shot in November 2011 when I started finding out how difficult it can make TTC. I set myself up for it to take 12 months for my period to return. My period came back in April but my cycles were everywhere, ranging from 23 to 39 days. 10 months after my last Depo shot, in September 2012 I ovulated for the first time (on our honeymoon!) and had a 28 day cycle. Hoping this next cycle also shows ovulation and a nice 28 day length. My biggest advice to anyone coming off BC or especially Depo is take your BBT and chart! FertilityFriend.com is amazing. It will keep you from spending $$$ on HPT's because you have no idea when you're supposed to expect AF. Good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on birth control consistently for 20 years. My doctor would switch the type of pill, but I was never off of it from the age of 15 to 35. I got pregnant the first month after I stopped taking it. I never even got a period. I honeslty had no idea what to expect, had heard and read so many stories about how long it may take for my body to go back to whatever "normal" is for my body. We feel very lucky are really thrilled and excited! Just wanted to share and tellothers that may be in a similar situation and age to stay optimistic.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

williala i wondered the same thing after reading tons of forums for TTC and one woman wroet that she knew the night she conceived her third child. She said that she has notice that women that are very in tune with their bodies have a tendency to know sooner than others. but i would have to agree with really paying attention to what your body tells you. i never used to pay much attention to my body but i was very very healthy! I got really sick a couple of years ago and over the time its taken me to get better i have learned to really pay attention to how i feel and what my body is telling me and i've noticed i can tell a lot more about what is going on with me. I'm hoping this new found skill will help me know when i get pregnant sooner than taking a test! good luck!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I just came off Yasmin after many years. My last period was Oct 8 and I normally only last 3-4 days. My husband and I had sex oct 12 and 14. Now I am noticing big changes. My nipples hurt, the last 3 days I have been having cramps low and to the left, I am unbelievably tired and I feel sick to my stomach. I have done multiple charts and they all put ovulation at a different time. Is this normal after coming off the pill?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I went off my BC in July 2012 after 11 years. I had one period at the end of August for days and have not had a period yet. Husband and I are TTC...........which is frustrating when you have no idea when/if you are ovulating! Any suggestions? It's been over 8 weeks since my last period and multiple pregnancy tests have come back Negative. *sigh* We thought we were doing things the "right" way so we didn't have a baby when we weren't ready, but now we are and I think it is harder to GET pregnant than it is to NOT get pregnant. My husband and I just started trying in October after 3 years on BCP. My areoles are quite darker and breasts are really sensitive. Sometimes I have waves of nausea, but nothing that lasts too long. Since I'm so impatient I've taken three pregnancy tests, all negative. AF is due to come today but I'm wondering if its just going to be irregular since I just got off the pill. I knowi just started trying but it's so frustrating thinking u are preggo andseeing those negative tests. We're also not telling anyone were TTC so it's hard to vent my frustrations. Just has to wait and pray! Good luck to all!

Join Date: Nov 2012Posts: 1So here is the deal. I was on the pill for 9 years. I just got married and my husband and I are trying for a baby. I have been off the pill now for 5 months and my period seems to start at a more regular time but I am unsure of a few things when tracking. First of all when I start to bleed, or spotting I think it is brown for a good 5 days then I finally get a real red period. When do I actually start tracking my period as the official day? When I see any sign of blood, the brown, or when I actually see red. I want to accurately mark this so I know my ovulation days. I have a period tracker app for this but I need to know how I record my results for it to give me good results. HELP

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

So I've been on the pill since September. I had my last period on November 16, and due to stress at work, I forgot to refill my prescription. My husband and I rely on my BCP for protection and we're still in the honeymoon phase, so we're constantly jumping each other's bones. I'm worried that I might be preggo, but both the HPT and blood PT came back negative. I should get my AF December 14, but I'm freaking out. Anyone care to shed some light on my situation?

I am also wondering if I could be pregnant. On Dec. 10 I took out my own mirena. Crazy but I did. I bled pretty light until Dec. 17 and this Is probably going to be drastic but be and my bf had sex using a condom but when we got done it was far up inside me showing that it had came off before we were done * . And we have had unprotected sex about 6 times after that and he didn't pull out. I have been bloating, having a metallic taste, abdominal cramps and sometimes it wraps around to my hips and lower back. And I have had a few times that I felt like my stomach or uterus was contracting. It was weird! I have not bled again ever since we had sex the first time other than a few days after I had very light PINK**** spotting w red flakes. And have been super tired. Could I be pregnant that quick after notes removal? Like I said.. I removed it in the tenth, technically had unprotected sex twice on Dec 18, and 2 more soon after, then two more times on Christmas day! Please help!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on birth control for close to 10 years. First I was on the pill and recently switched to the patch. Once I stopped the BC, and was actively trying to conceive, I got pregnant after two months. If you are really stressed and anxious about the process I would imagine it will take longer to conceive. Just relax and let nature take its course!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I just saw my doctor yesterday actually, and even though I was trying not panic about not automatically getting pregnant after going off of bc in October, I kind of blurted out that I was freaking about not even ovulating yet. She said that the three months after bc don't count. Your body is just trying to regulate itself and it's totally normal/ok that you don't ovulate right away and I have an irregular period to begin with and she said it was totally ok.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

It took me quite a while to get my regular cycle back when I went off BC. I had been taking the pill for years, and when I stopped it was almost 3 months before my first period. Since then each period came a little earlier (2 months, then 6 weeks etc.) but all pretty mild. Then a few months ago I suddenly went back to normal, 28 days exactly and all the symptoms like cramps, breaking out. I think that is when I started ovulating again and the second month I got pregnant. So it took a while for me but now everything is back to normal.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

My answer is more for those soon coming off birth control, not those who have already. I came off the pill October 12th 2012 and conceived within the same week. I am now 19 weeks pregnant with our first baby! I know I am the anomaly, but just be warned ladies, anything is possible. I'd been on the pill for almost a year so we were expecting not to get pregnant for a while. I guess God had other plans!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on the pill from age 15 to about 17. I then went off of it, went back on at about 20, and switched to the ring at 23. I took my ring out permanetly about 8 months ago (I am going to be 30 soon). None of my other relatives have had difficulty getting pregnant, but everyone around me seems to be reproducing rapidly and I am feeling frustrated and discouraged. How long should it take for the BC to be out of my system? When do I start getting concerned? I also have HPV and had a LEEP surgery about 6 years ago. I don't know if I should also be concerned about the inability to have concieved yet because of this. I have kept up with my regular appointments and my OB says that everything looks good. I go for my yearly since we started TTC in 2 months. But I am starting to get a little concerned. Not even sure if I should be. Anyone else have these same questions on concerns?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on bcp for 11 years before stopping and letting nature have its way. I took my last "active" pill April 14th and had a withdrawal bleed a couple days later. I then had a normal period May 15th- May 19th. This month (June) my period was late, so I tested a week after my period was due............ BFP! I can't believe it! I was on the pill 11 years; I never expected we would get pregnant this quickly.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

You shouldn't assume you are ovulating. I was on BCP for a long time myself and this is what I've learned: What you could do to be sure is get an ovulating predictor. I use Clear Blue and find it very easy to read. You can also chart your temperature each morning before you get up from the bed using a basal therm. If charting these both dont help, you can ask your doctor for a blood test to be sure. I would personally chart with the Clear Blue, because its easy to tell and with taking your temperature you won't know until ovulation already occured and then its too late!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

The latest paper on the topic of birth control pills and fertility was published in Fertility and Sterility two months ago by the same group of researchers conducting the PRESTO study in Massachusetts (http://presto.bu.edu). They found that recent discontinuation of birth control pills results in a short delay in the return of fertility, but longer-term use of birth control pills does not harm future fertility. These results are pretty reassuring. To read more from this study group, see: http://sites.bu.edu/presto/publications

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Each woman is different, depends on age, health and dozens of the other things, there is no "trick" that guarentees pregnancy. However having a period doesn't confirm ovulation. You need to track your cervical mucus and chart your temperatures - that was you understand what is happening with your body. Getting off any kind of BC can take as little as one cycle to 6. Best of luck to everyone.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I was on BC since 2006 just came off in May 2013. My husband and I are TTC, so far no luck I use to have very regular 28 day cycle down to the hour even. After 3 months of being of the pill my cycle completely changed now i am anywhere from 28 days to 34. I have been taking ovulation tests to try and figure out when i ovulate now. This may seem random but today I went for a walk and about 4mins into my hour walk it felt like i actually wet myself(and i did not lol)..When i got back my panties were wet almost like I'd been soaked with water this has never happen to me before there was no smell. Does anyone know what this might be from?

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I started taking the pill over 15 years ago, when I was 16 or 17 to regulate my periods. I don't even remember all of the different kinds that I have been on. My first was Ortho...and, my last was Yaz. For the last 5 years, I was taking Yaz non stop. I skipped the placebo pills. So I would never have my period. When my husband and I decided we wanted to start trying, I went off July of this year. I got some very light spotting a month later in August. Twenty nine days after that, in September,I got my first "real" period in 5 years. It lasted 4-5 days. And, now in October, I was confirmed pregnant by the doctor yesterday! It can really happen so quickly!

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

I am 43 and my last pregnancy was in 1997 I had twin girls, life has a way of changing and I found myself in a new relationship with a man that has never had children but wants to have them. So at 42, last january 5th we had my iud removed. We were really excited and we wanted and waited and nothing happened. I read evey blog, article and talked to every person I knew, the same thing was the theme, every person is different. In may I went to a new ob/gyn and it was xuggested that I was premenaposal, and that almost brought me to my knees, that was a blow for me, my husband on the other hand just looked at me and said, I wont die if we dont have a baby. Well he is amazing and I just tried to relax, and we enjoyed our summer and the months ticked off the calendar. On december 21st I started my period. We now have calendars and charts and again I am reading everything I can find. Just remember, every person is different and that knowing and reading cant change your bodies pace. Good luck and dont give up.

Q&A: Getting pregnant after birth control?

Honestly, it depends on your body and how quickly the hormones are no longer in there. I was on BC (Ortho-Lo) for 7 years and took the pill always on time and religously. Just to give you some background, I am 27 years old and prior to going on BC I ovulated at the same day of the month like clockwork...so I thought getting pregnant would be no issue. I got off the pill in August 2012 and we waited 2 months, thinking the pill would be out of my system by October and then we would start trying. Well..low and behold it was more difficult than we thought. We tried everything, different positions, monitoring my basal temperature, keeping an ovulation calendar, purchasing ovulation kits (which are expensive!), downloading fertility apps and I even went to a psychic to see if she could tell me when or if I would get pregnant (big scam by the way!). Finally in December 2013, I decided...if it's supposed to happen..it will happen. Then in February 2014, the day after the superbowl, I realized I missed my period. I took a test and voila, a positive! I am now 6 weeks pregnant and couldn't be happier. I know that many of you have struggled and are still struggling..but trust me once you stop thinking about it and when it's your time, it will happen.

I hear so many mixed things about all over them.. I did a lot of reading before stopping BC I had the nuva ring. Ive been using it for 8 years and I used the patch 1 year before that. Ive heard it'll take usually a minimum of 3 months to get your body producing the egg properly and what not. Its been 2 months without BC and so far the period has been on its typical 30 cycle like clockwork. Reading these comments that people have had that and then a complete stop is nerve racking! AHh Everybody is different but I'm really hoping July will be the month! Fingers crossed for June too but I'm not counting on it
