Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

If I've had an abortion, will I have a hard time getting pregnant in the future?

Re: If I've had an abortion, will I have a hard time getting pregnant in the future?

The Bump Expert Uncomplicated abortions usually pose no threat to a woman’s fertility. Those complicated by infection or hemorrhage may cause scar tissue to form in the uterus and this could impede your ability to establish pregnancy. If you have been unsuccessfully trying to conceive, your doctor will order a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) as part of your evaluation. This is an “X-ray” test of the uterus and fallopian tubes, and will check for things like tubal blockage and uterine scarring. S/he may also order a sonohysterogram which is a directed ultrasound of the uterus. In most cases, this scar tissue can be removed by a simple outpatient procedure known as hysteroscopy. It is always best to speak to your doctor if you have any concerns.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Me too .. I had an abortion in '06. I was on B.C after that, and then stopped in Dec of last year. After I stopped my B.C, my periods were normal. Then I didn't get it for over a month. My OB said it was my thyroid that was a little abnormal. I went to acupuncture to treat that b/c I didn't want to take any synthetic hormones. With only 1.5 months of therapy, it was back to normal. Well it's already been 2.5 since that therapy, and nothing. My acupuncturist also did the "pregnancy" point, which is a needle right under the navel. NOTHING! It's frustrating.

Sorry to hear that but maybe you should have embraced the gift God gave you in the 1st place. I had my baby at 17 and it was hard but I never regreted it. My son is the most special lilttle boy. Sometimes lifes choices seem scary but you never regret having your child that you love and loves you unconditonally. God wouldn't have givin you something you can't handle.

snoop5 why don't you stop judging people. Your not making things better by being a rude. Why don't you just close your mouth and keep your rude comments to yourself.

I agree. Shut your mouth and go somewhere else. It makes you just as bad to be acting all high and mighty.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

It really isn't fair that you are judging people. You really do not know their circumstances and although something may have been good for you does not mean that it is good for others.

Yep, I've gotta say Snoop that my mom (and probably yours) said it best: if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

ditto on keeping your mouth shut! being in somewhat control of our reproductive systems is the biggest triump of women's rights. it's what allows us to have educations and careers and be more than breeders. that being said... I have noticed that it is much harder to conceive now than in my teens, though I am not that old! (24) I don't know whether my indometriosis, my age, my lifestyle, or my previous abortions played a role. I wouldn't trade the ability to make the choice and have this complication now for the world. :)

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

It's absolutely disgusting that you people are so proud of murdering your unborn children. No wonder God is making it hard for you to conceive after having 2 or more abortions. He gave you the opportunity to embrace the gift of children and you ripped them from your womb and threw them in the trash! And you're wondering why you can't seem to get pregnant immediately now that you have decided it's the right time for you? You probably should have been thinking about whether or not you could handle the birth of a child before you had sex and conceived the first two!

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Nobody is proud of the tough decisions that they sometimes have to make, and to think for one moment that they do not mourn their babies is outright ridiculous on your part. It is very easy to judge & spout hateful comments at others while hiding behind a keyboard. On a lighter note: The best advice I can offer, is to lower your stressers as much as possible, it sounds super easy, but in my experience once I just stopped trying so hard to get pregnant my body seemed decide it was ready. I wish you luck in ttc.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Yea abortion is wrong in many level but who hasn't done any wrong decision in their life. Speaking about it makes us better people it shows we have learnt from our faults but that doesn't mean we won't suffer the consequnses of the wrong we have done.@ Bonaroo601 Don't u dare drag God's holy name into your hateful and judgemental comments. God is love and nothing else which means its unconditional. Hve u heard the scripture were Jesus said "he that has no sin throw the 1st stone"?

Lebzindo | February 15 , 2010 2:05 AM

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Hey Bonnaroo601 | ... What about my twin daughters that God ripped out of me and threw in the trash? What am I being punished for? I hope you never suffer a pregnancy loss, but if you do, maybe it is punishment for something you did in the past... according to your logic anyway. We have reproductive freedom in this country, get over it. Stop being a hater. Also, if you have trouble TTC after an abortion, then you would have the same trouble after a miscarriage... and the last time I checked more than 25% of pregnancies end in a miscarriage, which has nothing to do with later pregnancy complications. A D&C is the most commonly performed procedure in the United States. Bump Godesses, why have you allowed simple Q to become a debaete over the legal reproductive freedom that we enjoy?

I agree! This is not the place for anti abortion rhetoric! However, I have a two friends who elected to have abortions in their early 20's and they are both pregnant. One is on her third, and the other is on her second. GL

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Wow I thought this website was to embrace women who are TTC and those who are already pregnant...Not to pass judgement on others. I actually thought this site would be helpful and uplifting not degrading and childish. For all of you closed minded women, maybe you should keep your comments to yourself unless they are helpful to those of us who are trying to obtain information. I am embarassed to be a woman sometimes!! There is nothing "godly" and "holy" about making rude comments trust me god would not agree with that!

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Snoop5 and Bonnaroo601 you should be ashamed of yourselves. I have to have an abortion because my baby died inside me and my body hasn't recognised it. I think it's disgusting that you come here to judge people you don't know. God teaches forgiveness and love for all things so go throw your stones somewhere else.

Well.... hopefully now that we are done being immature we can get back to the topic at hand. Snoop5 and Bonnaroo601, you shouldnt even be reading these Q&A's since you're so high and might and this obviously doesn't concern you. I see ignorance has nothing to do with age.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Snoop5 and Bonnaroo601 I'll tell your right now, I had an abortion at the age of 17. I regret it very much and at the time I wasn't thinking at all. I was scared, my then boyfriend now husband was scared, and all I could picture was the disappointment in my parents face and we totally freaked. Is that an excuse? No it isn't. I agree that abortion is wrong and I feel awful now. But if you're a believer in God then you should know that we are FORGIVEN. Which means God is not going to to torture us and punish us because we made a few wrong turns. As a believer you definitely aren't spreading the love of God as you should be doing. I was embarrassed to read that and think this is why people don't like christians and think we're all judgmental jerks or whatever. My punishment is my own guilt.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

When i was 17 I gave a baby up for adoption. I know that I made the best choice for my precious baby girl. I got to choose the Christian family who I would bless with my child. (they were not able to have children of their own). I am now 24 and married and ready to have children. I know it takes a healthy couple up to a year to conceive and it has only been four months, but i am so worried that i wont be able to conceive. The "sperm downer" and I (when i was 17) were not trying to conceive and now that I am married and ready for children, I have been tracking my ovulation and we're still not pregnant. Having given birth and then given my child up for adoption and now dealing with the possibility of not being able to conceive is heart breaking. I do not agree with abortion, but i do feel for you women who are going through the heart ache of "What if that was my one chance to be a mom." I will pray for you all including myself, that God will bless us with a precious gift. This sight is not to a political sight, it is a community of trust and a safe place to ask question and get answers. God does not agree with abortion, but he also does not agree with being unkind to your neighbor. I'm sorry you women felt attached and I'm sorry that God's name was drawn into it in a way that He would not like it to have been. God loves us all despite our sins.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

It is only natural to feel guilty that past decisions may be delaying or effecting your present ability to conceive. Keep trying. Abortions are realtivily safe procedures, and as long as there is no scaring on your uterus or cervix from an abortion, then you should be able to conceive. There is nothing wrong with delaying parenthood until your are ready to do so on your own terms. Good luck.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

how dare all you ladies use the post as an outlet to push your judgement on others...you talk about god this and god that but yet you're judging others....why dont you get off your high horse and move on to another post. Speaking from experience I've had 2 abortions and I dont regret either decision. Its my basic right to have control over my life and body. I really dont care if all you bible thumpers agree or not, but dont use this website as an oppurtunity to bad mouth others. You have no idea of the circumstances each of us were in and the decisions we made.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

I have a friend who have committed abortion and she feels too much regret because the doctor said that she won't get pregnant after. She can't do anything but cry because she find it too late. I understand that we all have the right to choose but we should be sure in making decisions. In Kansas, a woman's right to choose might shortly be blown away like dust in the wind. I read this here: New Kansas abortion rules will usurp the right to choose. The AP states the State Rules and Regulations Board all authorized abortion restrictions that will bring Kansas that much nearer to becoming the first state in the nation without even one abortion provider. Enforcement of the Kansas' new abortion rules by the Department of Health and Environment can begin Friday.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Judgment is only for God...I think that sometimes we forget that there is no sin greater than the next. God judges fairly, abortionee or not(made up my own word there..lol). If you cannot pass on helpful info about the topic, do us all a favor and politely excuse yourself and continue to spread your condemnation within your own families and friends. The highest sin is to curse God...so for those who have never been faced with the tough decision to abort a child, kudos to you, however to the women who chose the abortion route, I pray that God restores your fertility and gives you peace in knowing that if you have asked for forgiveness all you have to do is receive it. Be blessed...and may all of your signs be ++++++++++++++++++ : > )

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

I see lots of opinions here which inturn show just how troublesome it is in becoming pregnant. My husband and I have tried for longer than 12 months without success. We tried out the many various strategies in addition to considering IVF however our healthcare doctor insisted we continue to choose the 'right' process, by means of losing weight and carefully following the ovulation calender. It had not been until I read the story linked to this handbook (http://www.ouropinionis.com/stories/our-pregnancy-story.php) that we did start to better understand why I was not having a baby. You often hear that whenever you unwind, forget about the problem (it is not so simple is it?!) that things begin to materialize. In our situation it was true and so I put it all down to the knowledge I received as a result of reading this. It may not give benefit to absolutely everyone although following a year of trying We had been prepared to give just about anything a shot therefore we are delighted I did.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

I am not sure the exact answer, but I would assume yes, since that is my situation as well. I also want to comment on the judgement I see in some comments. How do you know the women who have had abortions don't feel remorse? What gives any of you the right to play God? He who passes judgement will one day sit before judgement themselves. My sister hates so much that I opted for abortion 12 years ago that she will not speak to me, and even called me a murderer, and for no other reason than she being a devout Catholic. She actually banished me from her life, so my daughter never will know her cousins. I've already expressed my sadness and regret over my decision years ago and to this day. But I have already asked God for forgiveness and I believe I am forgiven because I am truly sorry. I think people who judge others are narrow-minded and shallow people who feel they are above everyone else. I would much rather be a person who has made mistakes and learned than a person who feels I am better than everyone else and without sin. I have learned you cannot change people but hope they come around. I hope the other women out there who have had abortions and want to concieve are positively sure they want the child this time. Also I hope they feel deserving and this is not God's way of "punsihing" you by not allowing you to concieve. Ignore the comments full of hate and you will have more love in your heart.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

@smudgedhorizon, you do not have to have an abortion. if your baby died inside you and the doctor has to go inside your body to remove it, it is NOT an abortion. an abortion terminates a viable pregnancy. the only people who should be ashamed of themselves are kmbenoit because she had not one but TWO abortions and does not feel guilty. WannaBamommi0809 should also be ashamed because she had 2 abortions, if she wants to be a mom soo bad but she already is, she's the mother of TWO dead babies. if you've had one abortion you are forgiven but not for more than that, it's not a form of birth control I love when people say abortion is good because it gives women control over their bodies and reproductive systems. . . . .guess what, we already have control over our bodies, it's called not having sex. Everyone knows how babies are made, if you think you're adult and mature enough to have sex then you are adult and mature enough to take responsibility for the reprocussions of your actions.
