Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

If I've had an abortion, will I have a hard time getting pregnant in the future?

Re: If I've had an abortion, will I have a hard time getting pregnant in the future?

The Bump Expert

Uncomplicated abortions usually pose no threat to a woman’s fertility. Those complicated by infection or hemorrhage may cause scar tissue to form in the uterus and this could impede your ability to establish pregnancy. If you have been unsuccessfully trying to conceive, your doctor will order a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) as part of your evaluation. This is an “X-ray” test of the uterus and fallopian tubes, and will check for things like tubal blockage and uterine scarring. S/he may also order a sonohysterogram which is a directed ultrasound of the uterus. In most cases, this scar tissue can be removed by a simple outpatient procedure known as hysteroscopy. It is always best to speak to your doctor if you have any concerns.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

Me too .. I had an abortion in '06. I was on B.C after that, and then stopped in Dec of last year. After I stopped my B.C, my periods were normal. Then I didn't get it for over a month. My OB said it was my thyroid that was a little abnormal. I went to acupuncture to treat that b/c I didn't want to take any synthetic hormones. With only 1.5 months of therapy, it was back to normal. Well it's already been 2.5 since that therapy, and nothing. My acupuncturist also did the "pregnancy" point, which is a needle right under the navel. NOTHING! It's frustrating.

Sorry to hear that but maybe you should have embraced the gift God gave you in the 1st place. I had my baby at 17 and it was hard but I never regreted it. My son is the most special lilttle boy. Sometimes lifes choices seem scary but you never regret having your child that you love and loves you unconditonally. God wouldn't have givin you something you can't handle.

snoop5 why don't you stop judging people. Your not making things better by being a rude. Why don't you just close your mouth and keep your rude comments to yourself.

I agree. Shut your mouth and go somewhere else. It makes you just as bad to be acting all high and mighty.

It really isn't fair that you are judging people. You really do not know their circumstances and although something may have been good for you does not mean that it is good for others.

Yep, I've gotta say Snoop that my mom (and probably yours) said it best: if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Q&A: Fertility problems after abortion?

ditto on keeping your mouth shut! being in somewhat control of our reproductive systems is the biggest triump of women's rights. it's what allows us to have educations and careers and be more than breeders. that being said... I have noticed that it is much harder to conceive now than in my teens, though I am not that old! (24) I don't know whether my indometriosis, my age, my lifestyle, or my previous abortions played a role. I wouldn't trade the ability to make the choice and have this complication now for the world. :)
